In yet another shocking act of deliberate violation of lockdown, a Muslim mob not only assembled at a local mosque in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh but also attacked the policemen for asking to avoid mass prayers (namaz) in the view of nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, reports Amar Ujala.

According to the report, the Muslim had assembled at a local mosque in Bhogaon, Mainpuri on Wednesday to offer namaz at a time when Uttar Pradesh government has issued orders that no religious places will be kept open for prayers during the lockdown. The local administration had also appealed the Muslims to not assemble at the mosque.

However, the Muslims had defied the rules to assemble at the mosque. On receiving information that people had gathered at the mosque located in Mohalla Mohammad Saeed town of Bhogaon, Inspector Pahup Singh reached the mosque with fellow policemen. When asked to open the door of the mosque, the mob became angry and refused to open the doors of the mosque.

As per the Amar Ujala report, despite all the efforts, the police could not convince the Muslim mob. They tried hard to open the doors but they were not allowed inside the mosque. Then, the Muslim mob unleashed themselves on the policemen as they attempted to disperse the mob. The police had to call for reinforcements to control the mob. However, Muslims have denied any attack and claimed that they are offering Namaz at home. 

The situation was brought under control after the police arrived at the spot. The Inspector in charge appealed to the people to offer Namaz at home. 

As the menace of coronavirus prompted several states across the country, including Uttar Pradesh, to impose blanket restrictions against the movement and congregation of people to blunt the spread of the virus, Muslim mobs have repeatedly descended on the streets to offer namaz.

Just two days back, in a similar incident, a Muslim mob in Meerut created a ruckus over being stopped from offering namaz in the mosques by the city police. Scores of Muslims had hit the streets at around 5:30 PM on Sunday in Meerut following the 5-minute celebration of gratitude expressed towards the frontline workers fighting the coronavirus.

Defying the rules, they had assembled at different mosques in the town- Sisiganj, Safety Tank, Rajbandh Market, Kotwali, Lisadi Gate and Nauchandin, to offer the evening prayers. Despite repeated attempts by the police to dissuade Muslims from marching towards the mosques, many Muslims ignored police’s appeals and instead created a ruckus after police tried to impede them from assembling at mosques in the view of the surging coronavirus cases in the country.

Eleven Islamic clerics (Maulvis) have been nabbed from the Rargaon Mosque in Tamar area of ​​Ranchi on Tuesday amidst the threat of Chinese coronavirus. Three Maulvis from China, three from Kazakhstan and four others from Kyrgyzstan were hiding in the mosque.

According to the reports, Bundu DSP on Tuesday had received information that 11 Maulvis were hiding inside the Rargaon Mosque in the city on Tuesday afternoon. Later in the day, the DSP, along with his team, raided the mosque.

They have been identified as Ma Mani, Yeh Dehai, Ma Maireli from China, Nurkarim Oloo, Zurbek, Nurgyev Islanbeck, Abdullaev Gulomiddin, Ismail Mishalo, Shakir Shah Akhunov, Ilyas Mayanov of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Their passports have been seized and now, the police are investigating into the matter.

The police after raiding the mosque, immediately sent them to a quarantine facility. They added that the preliminary investigations have begun regarding how they were given refuge inside a mosque. The police also stated that all the maulvis have been tested and according to preliminary results no one has tested positive for the Chinese virus yet.

According to the reports, the Islamic clerics claimed that they had travelled to Jamshedpur from Delhi. They stated that they reached Ranchi on March 19 and took refuge in the mosque.

These shocking act of recklessness of hiding foreigners, especially from Wuhan virus affected nations, comes at a time central and state governments are fighting hard to contain the menace of the Chinese virus by imposing lockdown across the country.

A similar incident was reported a few days back when 12 foreign nationals were found hiding in a mosque in Patna, Bihar. The Muslim belonging to foreign countries had hidden in the Mosque with the help of a few local Muslims. These people were reportedly hiding, fearing medical examination amidst the coronavirus outbreak. The incident had created a scare across the country.

These foreigners have been in Patna since the month of January. They had taken shelter in the Mosque with the help of some local Muslims. It was reported that these foreigners were religious preachers and they have been roaming around freely in Bihar.

Similarly, seven Indonesian nationals, who had visited Karimnagar to attend an Islamic event – Ijtema, had tried to escape after they were tested for the Coronavirus. The Islamic event organisers had allowed them to stay at a local madrasa during their stay in Karimnagar without even screening them.

The Indonesian nationals came to Karimnagar from Delhi on March 13 in a train. During the journey, they were accompanied by three Indians at Karimnagar. These Indonesian nationals had come to Karimnagar to attend a religious programme and were staying at a mosque.

A doctor at a mohalla community clinic in northeast Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus, health officials said on Wednesday. His wife and daughter, who were also found to be infected with coronavirus, have been admitted to a hospital.

As per advisory issued by Delhi government, the visitors and the patients who went to the clinic in Maujpur between March 12 and 18 have been asked to go on quarantine and contact a doctor if they experience COVID-19 symptoms.

It was earlier reported that the doctor at the Mohalla clinic might have been infected after the woman who had returned from Saudi Arabia, tested positive for the virus had visited him. The doctor who had developed symptoms continued to treat patients at his clinic from March 12-March 17.

An order by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Shahdara, said that Mohalla Clinic doctor Gopal Jha could have been a positive coronavirus case. The clinic has been closed and is being sanitised. The order directed all those who visited the Mohalla Clinic in question between March 12 and March 18 to follow 15-day home quarantine. They have been asked to contact the control room if they develop any symptoms.

The district surveillance team is trying to extract the list of patients who visited the doctor between the suspicious time period. It is important to note that Maujpur was one of the areas worst hit by the last month’s anti-Hindu riots.

A woman who had returned from Saudi Arabia had set off the chain of Wuhan coronavirus infection in the city. The Muslim woman has now reportedly transmitted the virus to her family members and now a doctor too. The woman’s mother and two daughters, too, have tested positive.

The viral infection was transmitted to her brother-Tabrez Khan, one of the organisers of the Jahangiri anti-CAA protests, who was admitted to the LNJP hospital and tested positive for the contagion. Khan had continued to visit the protest site after meeting his sister. Following this, it was widely feared the Jahangirpur anti-CAA protest may soon emerge as a hotspot for the novel coronavirus as several protestors were defying rules to assemble at the spot despite one of the organisers was tested positive for the coronavirus.

Jamia Millia Islamia University suspends Dr Abrar Ahmad, Assistant professor, who claimed he has failed 15 non-Muslim students for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act.

In a Twitter post in atrociously mangled English, the professor claimed that he failed 15 non-Muslim students for supporting CAA.

He also threatened the 15 non-Muslim students in his class that he enjoys the support of 55 students and if they did not give up protesting against the anti-CAA protests, the majority of the class i.e 55 students will teach them a lesson through riots. “Professors know the roll numbers and we have to put them on mark sheets. So it is easy for them to identify non-Muslim students,” a source in Jamia said.

However, spooked by the criticism over his tweet which showed discriminatory behaviour, Ahmad soon retracted his statement and said that his tweet was ‘parody’.

Jamia professor’s clarification

He, apparently, claims he was trying to ‘explain’ how CAA is discriminatory towards a community. Here, it should be noted that CAA is not applicable to Indian citizens. CAA only fast-tracks Indian citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from three neighbouring Islamic countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Muslims of these countries, too, could obtain Indian citizenship, should they so wish, by following the regular procedures. So one really is baffled about the ‘discrimination’ Ahmad is talking about.

Meanwhile, the Jamia administration has suspended him pending inquiry.

Spooked by the criticism received for his tweet in which he claimed to have failed 15 non-Muslim students for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act, Jamia professor Dr Abrar Ahmad backtracked from his assertions, stating that his tweet was a ‘parody’ to highlight the alleged discrimination meted out by the government against a particular community.

After deleting the contentious tweet, Ahmad posted another tweet in which he stated that his tweet about the examination discrimination was a parody to explain the Citizenship Amendment Act protests and how the government is discriminating a community. He added that there has been no such exams conducted and no such results and that he had made the post only to explain an issue.

Ahmad stirred a furore with his discriminatory tweet against the non-Muslims who did not conform to his worldview on the Citizenship Amendment Act and supported the legislation which intended to fast track the citizenship application of persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who had been in India on or before December 31, 2014.

However, shortly afterwards, the professor received a barrage of criticism from Social Media users, criticising him for his seemingly discriminatory disposition against the non-Muslim students in the college. Abrar then deleted his controversial tweet and tendered an untenable explanation that he was simply trying to illustrate the alleged discrimination of the government against a community with his tweet.

Union Government to provide wheat at Rs 2 per kg, rice at Rs 3 per kg to 80 crore people for the next 3 months

Union Minister Prakash Javedekar has announced that people below the poverty line across the country will be given wheat at Rs2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg at concessional rates for the next three months. The decision came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with the Union Ministers on the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Modi led government approved the world’s largest food security scheme. Every person will get 27 kg ration per month for the next three months, in which the wheat will be priced at Rs 2 per kg, instead of Rs 27 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg instead of Rs 37 per kg.

Prakash Javedekar asserted that contractual labours will be given their salaries. He also assured that no shortage of food products and essential goods will be there during the lockdown imposed by the threat of Wuhan Coronavirus. It was evident that immediately after lockdown, grocery stores across the country saw a sudden surge of buyers rushing towards grocery items to keep the household running during the lockdown.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that free cooked food will be provided twice a day to the homeless in who are staying at night shelters and his government will provide free ration to over 72 lakh people and the quantity will be increased from 5kg to 7 kg to those who are holding ration cards.

The Chattisgarh government had on Tuesday issued a notification stating that rice and dal will be distributed to ration card holders, students, and others. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced Rs 1,000 to all ration card holders, free rice, sugar, and other essential commodities.

All the cabinet ministers were physically present at the PM’s residence for the meeting and were seen sitting at a distance from each other in view of the novel coronavirus crisis. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has also approved the recapitalization of regional rural banks to improve their capital to risk-weighted assets ratio. It also approves the utilization of Rs 670 Crores of central government share for the scheme.

‘If it can hit me, it can hit anyone’: ‘Contagion’ movie’s medical adviser Dr Ian Lipkin on contracting Wuhan Coronavirus

As it spreads its insidious claws around the world, the deadly Wuhan Coronavirus has indiscriminately struck both the celebrities and the ordinary folks alike. It has affected Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, British Royal Prince of Wales, Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor, British actor Idris Elba and a host of other celebrities. Now, Dr Ian Lipkin, renowned virologist and the medical adviser of the ominously prophetic movie ‘Contagion’ has also tested positive for the Covid-19 that has brought the world to a screeching halt.

Lipkin, who advised director Steven Soderbergh on the prescient 2011 movie revealed his condition after discussing the coronavirus pandemic at Fox’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on Tuesday.

A few minutes into the show, Lipkin made the explosive revelation that he too is suffering from Covid-19. “I would like to say on this show tonight, this has become very personal to me, too. Because I have COVID as of yesterday. It’s miserable,” said Lipkin, the director of the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University, adding, “If it can hit me, it can hit anybody. That’s the message I want to convey.”

Declining to provide the details from whom or where he may have contracted the disease, Lipkin said that it did not matter from where he might have acquired the disease as the virus is all over the United States.

Regarding the strategy that could best contain the spread of the virus, Lipkin said that he thinks isolation and confinement are the best tools that should be used to limit the transmission of the disease.

Lipkin also raised alarms with regards to American President Donald Trump’s declaration about the country relaxing its lockdown restrictions by Easter weekend, April 11. “We have no idea when this is going to be under control,” said Lipkin while calling for harmonizing of restrictions across the country. “Our borders between states and cities are porous, and unless we’re consistent, we’re not gonna get ahead of this thing,” he added.

In 2011, Lipkin had claimed that he was persuaded to work with Soderbergh as he felt the movie was a sincere effort to accurately represent the science along with educating and entertaining people. Some of the scenes in the movie ‘Contagion’ reflect Lipkin’s own real-world experiences when he was in Beijing assisting the World Health Organization and the Chinese Health Ministry during the SARS outbreak in 2003. He became ill and was quarantined when he had returned to the US.

E-commerce giant Walmart Inc’s Flipkart will resume delivery of food and essential services partially after getting a nod from the federal and state governments, while online grocery store Big Basket has started operating in ten cities, while they are in the process of getting approval of resume operations in nine other cities. Both the e-retail companies had to stop operations due to Nationwide Lockdown announced by PM Narendra Modi to combat the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group tweeted after receiving assurances on the safety of its delivery staff and a hassle-free supply chain by the government: “We are grateful for the clarification provided by the government and local state authorities on the functioning of e-commerce during the lockdown. We are resuming our grocery services today. India, we are committed to serving you at this time. Thank you for your trust”.

Earlier in the day, Bengaluru-based Flipkart had temporarily suspended all shopping on its website and its mobile app early on Wednesday. Flipkart has marked all products as ‘Out Of Stock’ on the search option of its app and website.

“Your needs have always been our priority, and our promise is that we will be back to serve you, as soon as possible,” a message reads on the Flipkart’s website.

Online grocery store Big Basket has announced that they will be resuming services in some cities. The company’s operations had to be stopped due to lack of clarification over the nature of its business, as police were not allowing movement its personnel and vehicles, despite the Ministry Home Affairs exempting grocery stores from the lockdown. The company informed on Twitter today that it has been able to list its service as essential service in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Indore, Mumbai, Mysore, Noida, Surat and Vadodara, and have started operating in these cities. Although the company is booked for 4-5 days due to huge demand.

The company will not be operating in Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Patna and Vijaywada for next few days, as they are unable to get classified as essential services in those places, although they said that they are in the process of acquiring the classification, and hope to resume operations soon in these cities. Big Basket said that they are not operating in Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Ludhiana, Pune and Vizag, and don’t know whether they will be able to start, as they have not been able to get the necessary help from authorities. The company said that they will not operate in Kochi due to operational issues.

Amidst the ongoing lockdown, people are now largely depending on the e-commerce sites to buy household goods, food and medicine, but delivery hazards and overbooking has led these sites facing difficulties in reaching out to its customers.

Amazon.com announced on Tuesday that it was limiting its services to the sale and delivery of essential products. On Wednesday, its Pantry grocery service was unavailable in several cities and orders for most other food or household items showed delivery dates stretching well beyond the first week of April.

Meanwhile, healthcare platform Medlife and Alibaba-backed online grocer BigBasket was among those that encountered delivery difficulties after the national lockdown.

We are working with the local authorities for the passes and permits that allow movement of personnel and vehicles,” BigBasket said in a statement.

The company also said it was booked for the next seven days in almost all the cities in which it operates.

Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of SoftBank-backed Grofers, said the online grocer had a backlog of about 400,000 orders owing to “hiccups in our operations” over the past few days.

The Coronavirus pandemic has effected people physically as well as mentally all across the globe. Prime Minister Modi announced a 21-day nation-wide lockdown on the 24th of March to halt the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. All the states are strictly complying with the lockdown orders.

In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a full lockdown of India in a bid to control to spread of the deadly Wuhan Coronavirus. India has had a total of 606 Covid-19 positive cases till date with the Wuhan Coronavirus claiming 10 lives in India. Globally, the pandemic has claimed 19,760 lives with total positive cases reaching a massive 441,093. Now, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided that 1 crore party workers are going to provide meals to 5 poor people each (5 crore poor people) during the India-wide lockdown.

A meeting of BJP national office bearers chaired by party president J P Nadda took the decision to feed ensure 5 crore poor people are fed during the lockdown in India, and a mechanism will be put in place at the earliest in this regard, its national media head Anil Baluni said. 

In the meeting, Nadda called upon the party leaders and workers to ensure that one crore of them feed five poor persons each.

The decision has been taken after reports emerged that during the lockdown which came into force from 12 AM of the intervening night between 24th and 25th March, several poor people of the country were going hungry.

In a video that had emerged, it was seen that thousands of homeless people had gathered at a shelter in Delhi where the government was providing food. Unfortunately, the shelters did not have adequate ration or shelter, as reported.

It was also reported that several migrant workers were not being able to go back to their native places and hence were unable to meet their daily requirements, especially, with their means of earning being largely hit due to the Wuhan Coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown announced by various state level governments and then eventually, by the central government.

It is being reported that JP Nadda will be chairing several meetings with party workers during the 21-day lockdown period to ensure that this drive of providing meals to the poor is continued successfully.
