Survivor slams Football fans for sharing meme with her photo that mocks domestic violence after Liverpool’s 6th straight home defeat

Katie Kelleher, a victim of domestic abuse, has slammed football fans on social media after an insensitive meme went viral where victims of domestic abuse were made fun of following Liverpool Football Club’s sixth straight defeat at home on Sunday.

Liverpool lost 0-1 versus Fulham continuing their torrid form at home which has been a fortress for the team in recent times. Following the defeat, a meme started doing the rounds on the internet. The meme showed pictures of women beaten and bruised along with a photograph of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp with a caption that said, “beaten at home throughout lockdown”.

Katie Kelleher said that one of women in the meme was she herself. She called the meme “absolutely disgraceful” and slammed the fans for “making fun of domestic abuse all because Liverpool lost a game”.

Kelleher said, “If it was jokes and comments being made about racism in the name of football then they would come down on them like a ton of bricks … but because it’s domestic abuse once again it gets ignored !! Well I will NOT be ignored! This needs to stop !”

Others also criticised the fans who circulated the meme mocking domestic abuse victims.

Some also expressed their sympathies with Katie Kelleher over the matter.

‘They did not put last year’s criminals in jail’: BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri blames TRS and AIMIM for Bhainsa violence

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Arvind Dharmapuri has alleged that All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is responsible for violence in Telangana’s Bhainsa on March 7. He said that a series of communal riots have been taking place for the last few years. He further alleged that these clashes are happening due to the inefficiency of the police department. He said that the police is under TRS and MIM’s pressure.

Dharmapuri said that the three who were injured were journalist, and one of them is critical. He called the incident “very unfortunate”. He said that the police had registered cases against 100 people, 50 Hindus and 50 Muslims. He questioned the basis of registering cases in equal numbers against both communities.

Remembering the January 2020 communal violence in Bhainsa, Dharmapuri said that at that time majority of the properties that were burnt down belonged to Hindus. He alleged that TRS and AIMIM want Hindus to be driven out of Bhainsa. Naming one Javed, whose family members have held the Municipal chairman post in the region for a couple of decades, Dharmapuri said that he was the triggering point behind yesterday’s clash.

He also alleged that Javed is a big land grabber. Dharmapuri said that a couple of days ago, there were videos circulating on social media that pointed towards land grabbing incidents in which lands belonging to Hindus were being grabbed. He claimed that because of those videos coming out, they started attacking Hindus.

Dharmapuri further said that if the police department had not worked under TRS and AIMIM’s pressure and took appropriate action against the culprits of the last year’s violence, yesterday’s incident would not have happened.

He further questioned Cyberabad Commissioner Mahesh Bhagavath on the inefficiency of the police department. Bhagavath had said that police would file a case against social media users who circulate videos and messages related to the incident.

He said what was his department doing other than sharing warning to social media and WhatsApp users. He said that the main culprits of the last year’s incident are roaming around freely. He asked, “What kind of case should be filed against you for not taking action?” He added, “Had you put those goons behind bars when the previous riots surfaced, this array of riots would have not happened.”

Bhainsa communal clashes

On March 7, an argument between a biker and some locals triggered a communal clash between Hindus and Muslims in Bhainsa, Telangana. 10 people were injured and at least two houses and one auto-rickshaw were set ablaze during the clash. Section 144 was imposed in the area and a heavy police force was deployed to control law and order situation.

In January 2020, a similar clash had broken out between Muslims and Hindus in Bhainsa where 11 people were injured and several houses were torched. The Telangana government had filed a case against a journalist for reporting how a Muslim mob had attacked Hindu houses while chanting ‘Allah Hu Akbar.’

A Delhi Court has ruled that Ariz Khan is guilty in the Batla House Encounter case. He was found guilty in the murder of deceased police inspector Mohan Sharma.

Moments after the verdict became public, a woman could be heard crying at interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s residence. Further investigation into the matter to decipher the identity of the individual crying proved inconclusive.

While G-23 leaders insist that it was Smt. Sonia Gandhi herself who was crying, sources close to the Nehru-Gandhi parivar insisted that the family had been plagued recently by the ghost of Indira Gandhi weeping profusely over the political prospects of the Congress party.

Sources claimed that Rahul Gandhi had seen a woman draped in a white saree roaming through the house and shedding tears in misery. Acharya Pramod was summoned by the party to resolve the crisis, however, he found little success in ghost-hunting much like his political career.

However, G-23 leaders rubbished such claims and recalled how Smt. Sonia Gandhi had wept tears of agony following the Batla House Encounter. The conviction of Ariz Khan in the matter has drawn a similar response from the head of the Congress party, they say.

Sources claim to have seen a desolate Sonia Gandhi walking around with swollen red eyes but they insist that she was not crying due to the conviction of the terrorist in the Batla House Encounter case. Some claim that she is upset because it is a major blow for the party ahead of the crucial elections in five states.

“The Congress party has managed to stitch some meaningful alliances this election season. Abbas Siddiqui’s ISF in West Bengal, Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF in Assam, the IUML in Kerala. Ariz Khan would have been a nice addition to the set but unfortunately, that plan is now ruined,” a source admitted.

The BJP has latched on to the news to further question the party’s loyalty towards the country. However, there were some who were concerned with the rumours of ghosts in the bungalow. Former Vice President Hamid Ansari cited it as further evidence that Muslims were under threat in today’s India. Sources told us that this particular joke was staler than Indian stand-up comedy.

Salman Khurshid, meanwhile, is untraceable in all of this. Readers would recall that it was Khurshid who had informed the nation that Sonia Gandhi had wept profusely over the Batla House Encounter. Sources close to the parivar confided in us that until then, even Sonia Gandhi was not aware that she had cried profusely over the same.

But once she heard Khurshid saying it on television, she cried profusely moaning about the unparalleled morons that have come to dominate the Congress party.

Hours after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Virender Singh Kadian found himself in the spotlight for his derogatory and misogynistic tweets, several party members have now been embroiled in a similar controversy.

On Monday, tweets by Prabhakar Pandey had gone viral on social media. Pandey is the IT Cell Head of AAP. In a series of tweets dating back to 2014, he had targeted political dissidents with the choicest of expletives. The AAP social media Head had used filthy misogynist abuses against the person’s family members for being a ‘Modi supporter’.

Prabhakar Pandey did not stop with his vile, misogynistic tirade but continued to abuse the Twitter user. Using highly derogatory and vile words, he continued abusing the Twitter user and his mother.

Besides Pandey, AAP supporter Dr Safin (@HassanSafin) also found himself in the midst of a Twitter storm when his old abusive tweets went viral on social media. “Ga*nd chatu ho tum Modi ke (You lick Modi’s a*s),” read one tweet. “If you want to know what it means to get a*s burnt, then, look at BJP’s anxiety over AAP rally. The police, which is controlled by the BJP government, has refused permission for AAP rally.”

In 2015, he had targeted the Indian media without vulgar remarks. “Media – We are the 4th pillar of democracy. People- Shove that pillar down your a*s. Have sold your soul!” he said. In another tweet, he claimed that the picture of ‘Anandi and Advani’ will create pain in their a**.

While targeting a female Twitter user, he said, “Put the entire BJP and Congress in your a**. Even then, they can unseat Arvind Kejriwal.” Dr Safin’s obsession with the posterior, as vividly described in his tweets, continued as he targeted author, Chetan Bhagat. “Putting your a*s in others’ way is not okay, licking Modi’s a*s is not okay, getting your a*s on fire for not being given an AAP ticket is not okay.”

AAP troll and his history of misogynist behaviour

Earlier in the day, AAP MLA from Delhi Cantt constituency Virender Singh Kadian became the subject of social media backlash after his vile tweets targeting women, Hindus, journalists and political opponents went viral. In a vile Hinduphobic tweet, Virender Singh Kadian said, “All Godmen are ch*tiyas. The biggest ones are those who go to listen to their religious lectures. Mama’s boy, aren’t the fake 33 crore gods not enough?”

After being caught off guard, the AAP MLA alleged that his Twitter account was hacked. Several users pointed out that his disturbing tweets date back to 2017, which has no relevance to the fact that his account has been allegedly hacked now. Virender Singh Kadian has weaponised misogyny to get back at his political opponents. In his old tweets, he did not hesitate from demonising women to settle political scores. Amidst the controversy, the demand for his ouster from Aam Aadmi Party has gained momentum on the micro-blogging platform.

A shocking incident of rape has come to light from Kherli, Rajasthan, where a police officer allegedly raped a woman who came to file a complaint against her husband. As per reports, on March 2, a 26-year-old woman came to the police station in Kerli, Alwar district Rajasthan to file a complaint against her husband, who was asking for a divorce. She met Sub Inspector Bharat Singh, who allegedly raped her for three days on the pretext of settling the case.

SI Singh called the woman again on March 7. She reached at police station in the afternoon and filed a complaint against SI Singh. Reports suggest that initially, the police officers tried to suppress the case against SI Singh. She alleged that Singh took her to a room and raped her. 54-year-old Bharat Singh promised her that he would help her settle the case with her husband, who asked for the divorce. The woman alleged that she came to the police seeking help as she did not want to divorce her husband.

Senior officers intervened and registered case

As soon as senior officers came to know about the case, IG Range Jaipur Hawa Singh Ghumaria and Superintendent of Police (SP) Tejaswini Gautam reached Kherli and took information about the case.

IG Ghumaria said that the woman reported rape on March 2, 3 and 4. During the initial investigation, Singh was found guilty and has been arrested. A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal code has been registered against Singh. Head constable Prakash Chand has also been suspended in the case. He is accused of making changes in the rape victim’s documents to save the SI.

A similar case was reported in Aravali Vihar

A similar case was reported five days ago against Assistant Sub Inspect Ramjit Gurjar posted at Aravali Vihar police station, Alwar, Rajasthan. He was sent to the police line by the Superintendent of Police but was not arrested.

As West Bengal gears up for its high voltage state Assembly elections, the spate of political violence in the state has only been rising. In another such incident, a local BJP leader was shot at and injured in the Haringhata area of Nadia district in West Bengal Sunday. The party has alleged Trinamool Congress party cadres to be behind the attack.

The police confirmed that the 32-year-old Sanjay Das, a booth president of the BJP under ward no. 10 of Haringhata Municipality was found near a tea stall at Kapileswar Santoshpur in an injured state. The police personnel admitted him to a hospital. Das is said to be out of danger.

Giving more information about the incident, SP of Ranaghat Police District, VSR Ananthnag said that policemen patrolling in the area, stopped near a tea stall beside National Highway 12 at around 2:30 am Sunday, when they noticed some locals sitting on the ground some distance away. When the group of people gathered there saw the police approaching, all but one fled. As the policemen went closer, they saw the local BJP leader lying there in an inebriated state with his trousers soaked in blood. Das told the police that one person in the group fired at him and the bullet hit him in the waist, the SP said.

In a complaint lodged by the BJP leader’s father in the evening, several people have been named as accused. He stated in the complaint that he was told by his son that a heated argument over some political issue had insued, following which a person from the group fired at him.

The incident happened prior to PM Narendra Modi’s massive Kolkata rally held at the city’s historic Brigade Parade Ground on Sunday. Speaking on how Mamata Banerjee had let down her people in Bengal, PM Modi, in his speech, had also expressed his concern about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. PM Modi said: “You are well aware of the condition of ‘Maa, Manush, Maati’. Mothers are being attacked on the streets and in their houses. Recently, the cruelty unleashed on an 80-year-old mother has shown their cruel face to the entire country.”

The Prime Minister’s statement had come against the backdrop of the recent barbaric attack on a BJP worker and his 80-year-old mother by the TMC workers in Nimta in North Dum Dum city in West Bengal.

The political heat in West Bengal is at its peak as all political parties have kickstarted campaigning for the upcoming state Assembly elections with a bang. While the incumbent Trinamool Congress will be fighting to save its political space, BJP will be going all out aiming to topple Mamata Banerjee’s 10 year reign in the state.

The assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be held in eight phases. The voting will begin on March 27 and go on until April 29. Counting will be held on May 2.

On Women’s day, can we please make child marriage illegal among India’s minority community?

Here is a thought. Could we please make child marriage illegal in India? In fact, could we do it today? And this is not just because today is International Women’s Day. This is because banning child marriage is the right thing to do. And always has been.

This request might surprise you. Isn’t child marriage already illegal in India? We have all heard that the minimum age for marriage in India is 18 for females and 21 for males.

Except, that is simply not true. A Muslim girl can marry legally as soon as she reaches puberty, which could be around 14 or 15. No, I am not making this up. This provision has been tested in multiple courts of law and always been found to be 100% legal. Most recently, in February this year when the Punjab & Haryana High Court ruled thus.

Sharia allows child marriage for girls

Read that headline and weep. This is our country in 2021. The courts have repeatedly ruled that a Muslim girl who has attained puberty is “free” to marry as per her wishes. What free choice and agency can a 14 year old kid have with respect to marriage? I cannot say. However I can tell you that with laws like these, it will be hard to look any other modern democracy in the eye.

And before you ask: this also applies to a minor girl who converts to Islam from some other community. Accordingly, the following scenario would be completely legal. A grown man, say 40 years old, approaches a 14 year old Hindu girl for “marriage.” If the 14 year old “decides” to become a Muslim, she can now legally marry her 40 year old suitor. This is our country and these are our laws.

Of course, you never hear about anyone raising this issue. Because doing so would be against woke feminism.

I have compiled here a brief wish list for Women’s Day. If anyone believes I am asking for something that is unjust or unfair, I would love to know.

(1) Ban child marriage: As mentioned above, child marriage is still legal for Muslim girls. Let us ban this.

(2) Equal inheritance rights for males and females: As per Muslim personal law, daughters receive only half the inheritance that sons are entitled to. Let us change this. For all other communities, the inheritance laws have been amended a long time ago to give equal rights to males and females.

(3) Ban female genital mutilation: Believe it or not, our Honorable Supreme Court is still sitting on a case of whether female genital mutilation should be allowed among baby girls in the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community. The latest I have heard is that an entire division bench is trying to figure out whether this is right or wrong. Could we help them out by passing a law banning this?

As you can see, this is not a very long list. If we convene a special session of Parliament, we can sort out this matter today itself. And just in case these measures do not pass, we will have an official list of politicians who are in favour of child marriage, in favour of female genital mutilation and against property rights for women. It would surely help voters make good decisions if this list becomes publicly available.

I have a smaller, fourth item on my wish list. Show these three points to anyone who claims to be woke, liberal or feminist. And if you find that they are against any of the three items I mentioned here, never take them seriously ever again.

Spokesperson of Delhi BJP, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, has filed a complaint against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Virender Singh Kadian after the latter’s tweets from a few years ago resurfaced on social media.

The complaint says that Kadian has “deliberately and intentionally” posted the abusive tweet where he ranted about “33 crore fake gods”. Tajinder Bagga says in the complaint that the sole intention was to ‘insult and outrage the feelings of the Hindu community’.

The complaint further requests the authorities to take stringest action against the accused and register an FIR under sections 295$, 153, 153A, 504 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

‘India’s low-cost vaccines have rescued the world’: Top US scientist says India’s efforts need wider recognition

India is at the forefront in leading global efforts to battle out the scourge of coronavirus. It has partnered with various foreign institutes to develop vaccines to counter the infection that first emerged from the central Chinese city of Wuhan and brought the entire world to its knees. Now, an eminent American scientist has hailed India’s contributions in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, stating that the country’s efforts in fighting the deadly coronavirus have ‘rescued the world’ and it must not be underestimated.

Speaking at a webinar organised by Indo American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH), Dr Peter Hotez, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston said that the vaccines developed by India, in collaboration with universities across the world such as BCM and the Oxford University, have had more impact than the two mRNA vaccines that were prohibitively expensive for most of the world’s low and middle-income countries. In this sense, he added, India’s vaccine efforts have “rescued the world” and stated that the country’s contribution in fighting coronavirus ought to deserve global recognition.

Dr Hotez, an internationally acclaimed physician-scientist in neglected tropical diseases and vaccine development, was speaking at the webinar “Covid-19: Vaccination and Potential Return to Normalcy – If and When”, when he said that the COVID-19 vaccine rollout is “India’s gift” to the world in combating the virus.

Dr Hotez said he is compelled to talk about India’s efforts in fighting the global pandemic because it is not getting the global attention and the recognition that it deserves. “There is something very special going on in India and I have seen it myself because I am on weekly teleconferences with our colleagues in India, you make a recommendation, and within days it’s done and not only done, it’s done meticulously and with great rigour, thought and creativity,” said Dr Hortez, who is working on an affordable coronavirus vaccine in collaboration with Indian pharmaceutical companies.

Ever since the pandemic started galloping across the globe, India tapped into its medical prowess to thwart the rampaging infection. From building genome sequencing to diagnosing the infection, manufacturing high-quality personal protective equipment and masks, India has demonstrated to the world why it has been dubbed as the ‘pharmacy of the world’.

India also took leverage of its vast vaccine production capacity to help the rapid development and production of the COVID-19 vaccine. The drugs regulator in India gave emergency approval to COVISHIELD, a COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pune-based Serum Institute of India after securing a licence from British pharma company AstraZeneca, along with COVAXIN, indigenously developed jointly by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech and Indian Council of Medical Research scientists.

Not only has India excelled in producing low-cost yet effective COVID-19 vaccines for countries that couldn’t afford the more expensive Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, but as a part of its commitment to fight COVID-19, India has also helped other countries in fortifying their respective fights against the coronavirus by providing them with doses of COVID-19 vaccines free-of-cost as a goodwill gesture. From countries in its immediate neighborhood to nations halfway across the globe, such as in the Caribbean and Latin America, India has delivered free shots of COVID-19 vaccines to bolster the global fight against the coronavirus.
