‘Mamata Banerjee was offended, but offered to make peace with me because I’m from minority community’: Kolkata based actor-comedian Mir

0

Kolkata based actor, anchor and comedian Mir Afsar Ali, popularly known as only Mir, has said that although his jokes had offended CM Mamata Banerjee, he was forgiven because he is from the minority community. He made this comment at India Today Conclave East 2019 in Kolkata today.

Mir was talking about that incident a couple of years ago when he was widely slammed for referring to some female actors in the Bengali film industry in Kolkata as “Jhinku Mamoni”, which mean flashy women. In 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders had won the IPL tournament, final of which was played in Bengaluru. To felicitate the Kolkata’s home team owned by Shahrukh Khan, a grand ceremony was organised by the Mamata Banerjee government at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Apart from CM and other ministers of the WB government, several personalities from the Bengal film industry were present at the venue, apart from Bollywood personalities.

But the event had turned out to be a huge disaster as a stamped like situation took place due to a large number of people wanting to witness the function. There was chaos in the event, as people alleged that they were not allowed entry despite the entry being free. The KKR fans had tried to forcefully enter the stadium by breaking through barriers, forcing the cops to use lathi-charge to control the crowd.

Reacting to these events, Mir had called the Tollywood personalities present in the celebrations as Jhinku Mamoni in a Facebook post. Bengali actresses Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, Sayantika Banerjee, Srabanti etc were present in the event, and the West Bengal film industry didn’t like this and the fans had slammed Mir. As some of those actresses were TMC members, including Mimi and Nusrat who are MPs from the party in the current Lok Sabha, apparently CM Mamata Banerjee was also offended by the comments of Mir.

But today he said that he was told by a person he met in a flight that the CM would like to make peace with him because he is from the minority community. He said in the India Today Conclave that “a certain political party wouldn’t want to go against the minority community”. Mir was told that he does not have to do much to be in the good books of Mamata Banerjee as he is from minority community.

“I was identified not as an Indian but as a minority. We fall prey to following stereotypes,” Mir added commenting how Political parties use minorities for political benefits.

Rahul Gandhi inaugurates facility for psychiatry and de-addiction in Wayanad, Netizens ask him to be the first patient

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today launched a new department block for the treatment of mental illness and addiction at the Assumption Hospital in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad.

The former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is currently on tour of his parliamentary constituency Wayanad, where he started off the facility for the treatment of psychiatry and de-addiction.

Soon after the Congress Twitter handle posted the tweet informing the people about the inauguration, many users started suggesting Rahul Gandhi be the first patient to enrol himself at the facility to provide a boost to the hospital.

One Twitter user suggested that the psychiatry department will be useful for not just Rahul Gandhi but several other Congress supporters.

Many people have raised aspersions on the mental acuity of Rahul Gandhi following his embarrassing gaffes and socially tactless remarks in his political rallies. He recently invented a new number- “Dhai Hazaar Panch Sau” in an election rally in poll-bound Jharkhand. Gandhi is also famous for conjuring up another mathematical numeral “Pichatees” while speaking about the unemployment figures in the country.

In fact, there was a Wikileaks cable that asserted that ‘influential columnist and political insider’ Saeed Naqvi claims that it was increasingly common knowledge among Congress insiders that Rahul suffers from “personality problems” of an emotional or psychological nature that are severe enough to prevent him from functioning as PM.

This is not enough, Rahul’s poor grasp of political issues also added to his image of someone who is suffering from a chronic mental illness. His repeated allegations of wrongdoing in Rafale deal despite Supreme Court’s verdict stating no malfeasance was observed and his stubborn refusal to come to terms with it only reinforced his perception of being a mentally weak politician.

A POCSO court in Palakkad had, in October, had acquitted the accused in the case after the prosecution failed to establish their involvement in the crime. Following the acquittal of the accused, the Kerala government faced severe criticism over the handling of the investigation. It was alleged that the ruling CPI(M) had attempted to stall the investigation, which has led to the acquittal of the accused.

As Telangana police files case against 4 dead rape accused for attacking police, petition filed in SC against their encounter

On Saturday, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a First Information Report (FIR) and action against the Hyderabad police personnel who were involved in the encounter of the four accused in the gang-rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinarian in Telangana.

According to the reports, two advocates namely GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar Yadav have approached the Supreme Court with their petitions seeking probe into the matter. They alleged that the Hyderabad police have violated the Supreme Court’s guidelines on encounters.

Similarly, lawyers in Mumbai have also filed a petition before the Chief Justice of India, Telangana High Court, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and DGP Telangana demanding registration of an FIR against police personnel for killing four accused in rape and killing of a woman veterinary doctor, during an encounter that took place earlier in the day.

“Mumbai based lawyers, including me filed a letter petition before CJI, National Human Rights Commission of India, Telangana HC and DGP demanding registration of FIR against police personnel for killing four accused in custody in the name of encounter,” advocate Gunratna Sadavarte said.

Interestingly, a case has also been registered against the four rape-accused for ‘attacking’ the police personnel when they were taken to spot on Friday to recreate the crime scene  where they had allegedly raped and killed the 27-year-old veterinary doctor.

The four accused, who are now deceased are charged under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 176 (omission to give notice or information to public servant by person legally bound to give it) and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act were registered against the accused.

The complaint was filed by the in-charge of the police team that accompanied the four accused, the FIR was booked on Friday, a senior police official said.

On early hours of Friday, all the four accused in the rape and murder of the veterinarian in Telangana were killed in an ‘encounter’ with the police when they tried to escape while being taken to the crime spot. The four were arrested on November 29 for allegedly raping and killing the 25-year-old woman by smothering her and later burning her body.

The Hyderabad Police shot dead the four men after a brief encounter on Friday morning, drawing cheers from her family and public, who congratulated the police personnel for delivering ‘justice’ for the victim.

Meanwhile, a team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Saturday began an on-the-spot investigation into the police encounter in which four men accused in the gang-rape and murder of a woman veterinarian.

The NHRC took cognisance of the encounter killings of the four accused in the case and ordered a probe on Friday. “The commission is of the opinion that this matter is required to be probed very carefully. Accordingly, it has asked its Director General (Investigation) to immediately send a team for a fact-finding, on-the-spot investigation into the matter,” the NHRC said.

Kerala: Accused acquitted in Walayar rape and death case of two minor sisters thrashed by mob

As a result of the growing public rage over the recent incidents of rape in the country, one of the acquitted accused in the Walayar rape and death case of two minor sisters in separate incidents in 2017, was allegedly thrashed by a group of people on Saturday morning within the Walayar station limits in Palakkad district of Kerala.

C Madhu, one of the accused in the Walayar rape case sustained injuries in the attack and has been admitted at a government hospital in Palakkad. According to police an altercation between the accused and a group of 4 to 5 men led to the incident. Three of the attackers have been taken into custody by Kerala police.

The police team will soon be reaching the hospital to record the statement of the accused who got injured in the attack.

C Madhu was one of the four accused who were acquitted in the case which relates to the mysterious death and alleged sexual exploitation of two minor siblings at Walayar town in Palakkad district in 2017. While one of them allegedly committed suicide, the second one was later found dead.

It was accused that the Kerala police under political pressure, allegedly helped the accused evade the conviction by weakening the case. Ironically, the accused in the case were CPI(M) workers and the defense lawyer was a local CPI(M) leader.

On November 1, a division bench of the Kerala High Court had dismissed a plea seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case. The Kerala government had then announced a judicial probe into the case and had also informed the court that it plans to appeal against the special POCSO court verdict acquitting three accused in the case on October 25.

Radical Sikh outfits plan to hold Human Rights march in Kashmir, media forgets to mention their Khalistani links

Pro-Khalistani Radical Sikh outfits Dal Khalsa and Simranjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) have planned to organise a human rights march in Kashmir to observe the World Human Rights Day on December 10. The members of these outfits will be visiting Kashmir to hold a sit-in at Lal Chowk in Kashmir against the perceived human rights abuses of the Kashmiris.

Kanwar Pal Singh, the Dal Khalsa spokesman said, “Our primary concern is to strive for the fundamental rights of the people of Kashmir and it will be our endeavour to call to attention their sufferings.” Exhorting “human rights defenders” to join their peaceful sit-in at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Pal said that both the organisations would leave for Kashmir from Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur on December 9 and plan to reach Srinagar on December 10.

Besides this, Pal also mentioned that they will also highlight the issues of custodial death, illegal detention and harassment of undertrials, the predominance of archaic laws such as 124-A (sedition), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, denial of relief for political prisoners etc.

Several news outlets such as The Hindu and The Tribune India reported this development but they failed to draw attention to the fact that one of these radical Sikh groups, Dal Khalsa, who claims to be championing the cause of violations of human rights in Kashmir now, is a known proponent of Khalistan and actively indulged in carrying out anti-India activities.

Last year, on its foundation day, Dal Khalsa had claimed that it would continue to strive for a peaceful, political and democratic struggle for a separate Sikh homeland. However, the radical organisation also paid tribute to “militant” leaders and recognised the “contribution” of Pakistan-based Sikh leaders and bragged about the support it receives from Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

In a sting operation, telltale details came to the fore revealing the nexus between the Khalistani leaders with Pakistani intelligence agency-ISI. It was disclosed that its members plotted attacks against political leaders with the support of the ISI, extended support to terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, carried out anti-India campaigns in the UK and US and openly pandered to the Khalistani supporters and supported them in their nefarious designs of breaking India.

Talking about the crime, Rao said, “the accused, Bhaskara, who used to work as a coolie, had called the girl to her house under the pretext of offering prasad and then sexually assaulted her. She had then narrated the incident to the other girls and the caretaker.” He added that the matter was raised by a social activist from the area after listening to the ordeal of the girl.

He added that such cases should be dealt with in a year according to law. But as there is only one court, it is not possible to do so because of the huge backlog of cases.

After Pakistanis claimed Usman Khan did not have Pakistani origin, London Bridge terrorist’s body flown to Islamabad

0

Pakistan has forever been on a denial mode that they have ever bred Jihadis on their soil. After similar bruhaha over the London Bridge Jihadi, Usman Khan’s origin by several infuriated Pakistanis, the terrorist’s body was ultimately flown from London to Islamabad, Pakistan, to be buried in his home town on December 6.

Khan’s body was released by the City of London coroner and flown to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, by his family in the early hours of Friday. It was then transported to the rural village of Kajlani in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, where he was quietly buried in an Islamic funeral later at night.

Officials at Islamabad International Airport confirmed that the 28-year-old Jihadist’s body had been flown out on Thursday afternoon and arrived in Pakistan on Friday morning.

The Pakistani terrorist who had stabbed multiple people, killing two Cambridge graduates, while armed with two kitchen knives and wearing a fake suicide vest had been shot dead by the London police.

Usman Khan had gone on a stabbing rampage just before 2 PM (1400 GMT) near the London Bridge, an area that had seen a deadly terrorist attack just two years ago.

Meanwhile, Pakistanis who are embarrassed by the fact that any terror incident that happens anywhere across the globe inevitably finds its roots to Pakistan had come down heavily on the Pakistani newspaper ‘The Dawn’ for reporting that the accused involved in the London Bridge attack had Pakistani origins.

Hundreds of angry Pakistanis had swelled around the Pakistani newspaper’s office premises, blocking the entry and the exit on December 3.

The disgruntled Pakistanis contended that the Dawn Newspaper has incorrectly claimed that the perpetrator of the London Bridge attack had Pakistani roots. Many on Twitter too hailed the attack on the Dawn claiming that Usman had no connection with Pakistan and the newspaper was simply besmirching the reputation of the country by linking the London Bridge attacker with Pakistan.

According to the report published in the Dawn, Khan is a British citizen born in the UK and of Pakistani origin. He left school with no qualifications after spending part of his late teens in Pakistan, where he lived with his mother when she became ill. After returning to the UK, he partook in promulgating extremism on the Internet and garnered a significant following.

However, this intricate detail was lost on indignant Pakistanis who claimed that since Usman was born and brought up in England, he cannot have Pakistani origins.

The police had confirmed that a lorry driver named Mohammad Pasha from Narayanpet in Mahababub Nagar district was the main suspect. The other accused were identified as Naveen from Gudigandla, cleaner Kesavulu, and an assistant named Shiva.

The four accused had pre-planned the crime after they had noticed that the victim had parked her two-wheeler at the Tondupally toll plaza. The accused assumed that the lady would come to pick it up later in the evening. The accused then deflated the tyre.

As Preeti Reddy was returning home from work a little after 8 pm to pick her vehicle, she noticed a flat tyre. She immediately called her sister, who suggested that she leave her two-wheeler at the toll plaza and take a cab home. Before she could, two men approached her, who offered to take her vehicle for repair.

The woman was ambushed and dragged into the bushes by the accused barely 50 metres from Tondupally toll plaza behind a line of trucks that was parked near the road. Her charred body was found under an underpass later.
