On Tuesday, September 24, the Saudi Arabian government issued a strong warning to Pakistan regarding the increasing number of Pakistani beggars entering the country under the pretext of Umrah. Saudi authorities cautioned that if Islamabad fails to take appropriate action, it could negatively impact the religious and interpersonal relations between the two nations.

The Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Ḥajj which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

“The Saudi Ministry of Hajj has issued a warning to Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, urging action to prevent Pakistani beggars from entering the kingdom under Umrah visas,” Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper reported on Tuesday.

In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced plans to implement an “Umrah Act” to regulate travel agencies organizing Umrah trips, bringing them under legal oversight.

Additionally, the ministry has urged the Pakistani government to explore measures to prevent beggars from travelling to Saudi Arabia under the pretence of religious pilgrimage.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Ahmed Al-Malki that stringent measures will be enforced against the criminal networks responsible for sending beggars to Saudi Arabia. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been assigned to spearhead this crackdown, focusing on dismantling the mafias that facilitate the illegal entry of beggars into the Kingdom.

Earlier this year, the Saudi government issued a fatwa prohibiting Hajj without a permit, imposing a penalty of 10,000 Riyals (approximately Rs 2.22 lakh) and deportation for violators.

Pakistan planned to block passports of over 2000 beggars so they don’t beg from the entire world

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government, on its end, had decided to block the passports of over 2,000 beggars. As per a Dawn News TV report, the Pakistan authorities had decided that their citizens involved in begging abroad would face a passport suspension for seven years. 

The problem of Pakistani beggars has continued to affect the Gulf countries. Last year, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) removed 16 beggars from a flight to Saudi Arabia at the airport in Multan. The group which consisted of 11 women, four men and a child, pretended to be Umrah pilgrims and were travelling on Umrah visas to enter the Gulf nation. 

The passengers confessed during the immigration process that they were going to visit the Islamic holy land. The beggars accepted that half of the money they were going to earn through begging would have been given to the travel agencies engaged in their arrangements.

On Tuesday, 24th September, the Uttar Pradesh Police exposed a gang that committed Goods and Service Tax (GST) fraud by issuing bills in the name of fictitious organizations in Muzzafarnagar. In five years, the gang formed 48 bogus companies, issued fake bills totaling Rs 925 crores, and stole GST worth Rs 135 crores.

The police have apprehended seven perpetrators, including the gang’s mastermind. The accused persons have been identified as Tasleem, Junaid, Aas Mohammad, Sethi, Asif, Moin and Azim. As per the initial reports, the commission for creating fake bills was operated through hawala.

According to SSP Abhishek Singh, one individual identified as Ashwini of Ratanpuri police station area had lodged a complaint in the Cyber ​​Crime Police Station on September 2nd, saying that some people had created a fake company using his Aadhar card and PAN card and that it had committed GST theft by making fake bills. A case of GST theft of Rs 248 crore was registered.

The police later investigated the case to uncover that fake bills amounting to Rs 925 crores had been created to embezzle GST amounting to Rs 135 crore. Arrested accused Tasleem is believed to be the mastermind of the entire scam. However, while the police have arrested 7 persons in the case, Tasleem’s brother Wahdat who is also accused in the case is absconding.

SSP also confirmed that Tasleem is the gang’s mastermind. “This gang used to take documents from unemployed youths by luring them with jobs. Another arrestee Azim is accused managed to create fake KYC of the youths so that a fake firm could be started in their name with a fake GST number. After this, the gang searched for traders dealing in scrap and junk across the country who did not have GST numbers and dealt in that,” the police said.

A report by Jagran suggests that GST was stolen by issuing fake bills through bogus companies. The commission for issuing GST bills was not put in the company’s account but was collected through Hawala. 7 arrests in the case have been made. Police are looking for one absconding. Further investigations are underway.

In Assam’s Guwahati, an uproar has erupted over allegations of Hindu students allegedly being fed beef at the Carmel School in Rani by Manipuri students during lunch break. The incident is reported to have transpired on 19th September. However, it was only revealed after parents were notified, and they later held a protest outside the school on Tuesday (24th September). During the protests, “Manipuri go back” slogans were also raised.

The school administration reportedly attempted to downplay the matter. The school principal is alleged to have threatened the affected Assamese Hindu students to prevent them from speaking out against the violation of their faith. In reaction to the incident, parents filed an FIR with the Rani police station, citing the school’s irresponsibility and failure to address the allegations appropriately.

“I am not sure whether it was beef meat or not, but my daughter told me that it was beef mixed with Maggie. The principal didn’t respond to our queries,” one of the parents of a student at Carmel School in Guwahati said.

“We want the Manipuri community students to be expelled from the school. The incident occurred on Thursday, but I only found out about it on Friday evening when a nearby shopkeeper informed me that beef was served on the school premises. My son, who also studies there, told me that some Manipuri students were distributing beef. I had previously warned him not to eat any meat offered by that community, as it could be beef. On Thursday, when a Manipuri student gave him the meat, he tasted it and asked what kind it was, and a classmate told him it was beef,” another parent said.

There are also reports that the Manipuri students also assaulted the local students and complaints were made to school authorities about this but no action was taken. Parents have expressed concern about the school’s administration practices, saying that government educational guidelines are not being followed.

Meanwhile, the Palashbari revenue circle officer, alongside police and paramilitary troops, has been dispatched to the area to handle the situation and conduct additional investigations.

In Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, a Hindu woman has submitted a written complaint to the district collector, accusing a man named Riyaz of deceit and coercing her into an illegal religious conversion.

The woman, originally a resident of Tripura, said in her statement that, about 4 years ago, Riyaz, originally belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, befriended her on social media pretending to be Gulshan Manhas, a Hindu. A few months later, the accused married her in a temple as per Hindu customs, but after she had a child with him, he began pressuring her to convert to Islam. He assaulted and threatened her with life when she refused to accede to his demands.

The vcitim said that in the year 2021, Riyaz called her to Andhra Pradesh promising to marry her. The woman went to Andhra Pradesh a few days later without informing her family. In June 2021, the couple was married in a temple following Hindu customs in Vradapalam city, Andhra Pradesh. Following their marriage, they settled into a rented house in the same city.

The woman recalled how Riyaz would always dodge her questions about his family and instead say, “I am a good person… I didn’t deceive you.”

On December 7, 2022, the victim gave birth to a son in a private hospital, whom she named Gurdeep. Approximately four months later, the accused took the woman to Jammu, claiming he was taking her to his home. He mentioned that the village he lived in was called Kandi.

In her application, the woman further stated that after Gulshan took her to his house, she noticed that the environment of his house was completely different from hers, raising her suspicions about his religion. One day, when Gulshan slaughtered a chicken at home, witnessing how he did it confirmed her doubts that he was not a Hindu. Despite this realization, she remained calm and decided to seek further clarity.

One day when Gulshan was not at home, the woman began asking around about him. She noted that when she inquired in Muslim households, everyone would defend Gulshan. However, when she spoke with people from Hindu families, she discovered that Gulshan’s real name was Riyaz Ahmed and that he was a Muslim.

Upon discovering this, the accused’s family and some members of the community began pressuring her to convert to Islam. When she refused, Gulshan physically assaulted her, threatening to kill her if she did not comply, but she remained steadfast in her decision. Subsequently, she attempted to escape with her child several times but was unsuccessful. Although she filed a report at the Kandi police station, no action was taken. Eventually, seizing an opportunity, she managed to leave the house and made her way to Delhi and then to Rajasthan. However, the accused tracked her using her mobile location and found her there as well, forcibly taking her back to his home.

Once taken back to his home, she and her child were confined indoors for approximately five months. Eventually, she managed to find an opportunity to escape and made her way to Chhattisgarh. Upon arriving in the village of Bhikhampura in the Sarangarh district, she connected with a local NGO. Currently, she is residing there and teaching children through the organization.

On Monday, September 23, she travelled from the village to the Raigarh Collectorate, where she filed a written complaint against Riyaz Ahmed aka Gulshan. She has also sought help at the SP office.

 In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman died after a clandestine abortion procedure was performed on her at her residence in Pune, Maharashtra

Following the incident, the police arrested the woman’s husband and father-in-law. The deceased’s mother-in-law was also booked in connection with the case.

According to the police, the investigation revealed that the four-month-old foetus was buried in the family’s farm.

A private doctor, who was summoned to perform the abortion, is also under scrutiny, police said.

The deceased woman had married the accused in 2017 and had two children, a girl and a boy, before becoming pregnant for the third time. Police suspect that when the family discovered the foetus was female, they arranged for the abortion at home.

“On Sunday, the woman’s condition worsened due to heavy bleeding. She was taken to the hospital the next day but died en route,” an officer from the Indapur police station said.

The FIR was filed based on the complaint of the deceased woman’s brother. After this, her husband and father-in-law were arrested.

The foetus was exhumed from the farm and sent for a postmortem.

Police have registered the case at the Indapur Police station of Pune Rural Police under sections 91, 90, and 85 of the BNS, and further investigation is underway in the case.

On September 22, Bajrang Dal members, with the assistance of officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and Margao police, raided an illegal slaughterhouse operating in a residential area in Khareband, Goa. Reports suggest that the owner, Aslam Bepari, along with his family members, was allegedly butchering bovines and producing ghee from animal fat for sale in local markets in the basement of a four-storey building.

During the raid, authorities recovered two bovines, 41 containers of animal fat (each weighing 20 kg), teak logs, large ropes, weapons, and dry, rotten meat packed in tins.

According to reports, the Margao police were alerted when some youths intercepted a vehicle transporting four bulls to the site. Although the youths attempted to stop the vehicle, they were unsuccessful and followed it to a residential building in Khareband. The perpetrators fled, leaving behind the four animals. However, by the time the group informed the police and authorities arrived, two animals had disappeared, though the group managed to rescue the remaining two.

On September 23, Margao police registered the offence under various sections, including Section 325 R/w 3 (5) of the BNS, Sections 4, 5, 8, and 10 of The Goa Animal Preservation Act, and Sections 3, 5, and 8 of The Goa, Daman, and Diu Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act. They also invoked Section 11 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, based on a complaint filed by Bhagwan Redkar of Dakshin Goa Sansad.

This case has raised significant concerns, particularly in light of the widespread controversy involving the famous Laddu Prasadam of Tirupati Balaji temple in Tirumala, which was reportedly found to contain ghee adulterated with animal fat.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of revenge politics and referred to the MUDA land scam case as a ‘sham’ after the High Court dismissed his petition challenging the Governor’s sanction for a probe against him. The High Court’s decision has prompted calls for Siddaramaiah’s resignation from the BJP. In response to the scandal, Siddaramaiah said that the BJP-led Centre was plotting to punish governments in opposition-ruled states by misusing Raj Bhavan. 

“The MUDA case is just a sham. The main objective of BJP and JDS is to stop our government’s schemes which favour the poor and the oppressed. I request the people of the state to see the faces of those who are making false allegations,” he said.

“I will not hesitate to face investigation. I will consult with experts on whether such an investigation is allowed under law or not. I will discuss with the legal experts and decide the outline of the fight,” he added. The Chief Minister claimed that the BJP and JD(S) were using political revenge against him because of his pro-poor reputation and advocacy for social justice. He claimed that the BJP was plotting the demise of the Congress government in Karnataka because it was frustrated by its defeat in last year’s Assembly elections.

“The people of Karnataka have not given the BJP enough majority to come to power on its own. So far, the BJP has come to power by conducting Operation Kamala unethically. In the last Assembly elections, the people of the state gave our party a strength of 136 seats without giving any chance to Operation Kamala,” he said.

“Frustrated by this, the BJP and JDS leaders have taken advantage of Raj Bhavan and made false allegations against me to disturb our government,” he alleged. He claimed that all MLAs, leaders, and Congress workers supported him and pushed him to continue fighting for the bill. 

“Throughout my 40 years of political life, I have faced such revenge and conspiracy politics and I have been winning with the strength of the blessings and wishes of the people of the state. I am confident that I will win this fight with the strength of people’s blessings,” he said. “The same leaders who are asking for my resignation are the same ones who opposed the schemes that I implemented for the poor and the oppressed of the state,” he further said.

The Karnataka High Court today dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition to rescind Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot’s clearance for an investigation into the chief minister’s role in the alleged MUDA land scam. In its conclusion, the High Court stated that the Governor can make independent decisions if exceptional circumstances arise and that his order does not suffer from non-application of mind.

The bench stressed that the facts described in the plea required further investigation before it could be dismissed. In July, the Governor approved a probe into Siddaramaiah in response to accusations from three activists: TJ Abraham, Snehamai Krishna, and Pradeep Kumar SP. The lawsuit involves claims that Siddaramaiah’s wife, BM Parvathi, was given compensation sites in an upmarket region of Mysuru with a higher property worth than the location of her land, which had been acquired by MUDA.

MUDA had allotted plots to Parvathi under a 50:50 ratio program in exchange for 3.16 acres of her land, where MUDA created a residential layout. Siddaramaiah has refuted the claims against him in the land fraud case, while the BJP has sought his resignation.

On 24th September, popular Tamil director Mohan G was arrested for making shocking claims that certain medicines were being mixed with “panchamirtham” (prasadam or religious offering) served at the Palani Temple which caused impotency in men. The claims were made during an interview on a YouTube channel while commenting on the Tirupati Temple prasadam controversy, where ghee adulterated with animal fat was allegedly used to prepare the famous Tirupati laddus. The cybercrime unit of the Trichy Police arrested Mohan G. Trichy District SP Varun Kumar said in a statement that the producer was arrested on Tuesday and brought to Trichy.

Speaking on the controversy during the interview, he claimed that similar incidents had occurred in Tamil Nadu as well. Known for films like Rudrathandavam, Draupathi, and Begasuran, Mohan G said, “I heard that medicines causing impotency in men were mixed with panchamirtham. That news was hidden, and the panchamirtham was destroyed. We shouldn’t speak without proof, but no proper explanation was given. Those working there told me that birth control pills were used as an attack on Hindus.”

Reacting to the claims, Sekar Babu, Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments in Tamil Nadu, issued a warning, stating that strict action would be taken against those spreading false news about Palani Temple panchamirtham.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, condemned the arrest, calling it unconstitutional. BJP leader Ashwathaman Allimuthu alleged that the director’s family was not informed about the reason for the arrest. He said, “No formal information was given to the family about the cause or the case. This is against the Supreme Court order.”

Tirupati Laddu Prasadam controversy

On 18 September Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy administration of using animal fat in making laddus served at the renowned Hindu temple during his address at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislative party meeting. “They (YSRC government) not only provided substandard food to the devotees, such as Anna Prasadam in Tirumala, but also used inferior quality ingredients to make Prasadam, which is offered to Lord Venkateswara. Instead of using pure ghee, they used animal fat,” he charged.

The chief minister further added, “Today, we are using pure ghee and cleansed the system in the temple. Quality of Prasadam and food have improved and steps are being taken to make further improvements.” His statement was eventually validated by the test findings. The conclusions drawn by the report revealed that there were residues of animal fat in the ghee used to prepare iconic Tirupati laddu prasadam. Furthermore, ingredients like soybean, sunflower, olive, rapeseed, linseed, wheat germ, maize germ, cotton seed, coconut, palm kernel fat, and palm oil were also used in making the laddus.

After that, a laboratory report emerged, which showed that ghee used by the Tirupati temple contained beef fat, pig fat, fish oil, and various types of plant-based oil, and the content of dairy fat was very low. The test was conducted by the National Dairy Development Board’s “Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food” (CALF) laboratory on behalf of Tirumala Tirupathi Devastanam. TTD had decided to test the ghee after receiving multiple complaints about the deteriorating quality and taste of its famous laddus.

TTD has already started blacklisting the suppliers of ghee after the report came out.

On 23rd September, at midnight, a scared temple chariot at Lord Rama’s in Hanakanahal village, Kanekal Mandal, Anantapur district, was set on fire, which left devotees furious at the blatant act of attacking their religious sentiments. The local police and fire services were notified by locals who witnessed the fire at the chariot shelter. The fire was contained after many hours. The chariot was partly burnt down in the incident.

The chariot, which was kept at the village’s Ramalayam, was partially burned in the fire, according to confirmation from local authorities. P. Jagadeesh, the district Superintendent of Police (SP), rushed to the location upon receiving the information and began the investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ravi Babu of Kalyandurg also went to Hanakanahal hamlet to examine the chariot and also asked the locals about the occurrence.

According to reports, the chariot had burned by the time villagers and fire service officials arrived. With the use of nearby CCTV footage, police are looking into the incident and making an effort to identify the offenders. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu has also expressed shock over the instance. Chief Minister Office (CMO) informed that he “condemned the heinous act” and vowed that, “this constitutes an assault on our culture and values, and such acts of desecration will not be tolerated.”

The office informed that he directed officials, including the District Collector and the SP, to visit the location right away and begin a comprehensive inquiry to apprehend the perpetrators as soon as possible. It further added, “He promised that the perpetrators of this vile act will face the full force of the law, and he shall personally oversee the investigation to ensure swift and decisive action.”

The chief minister gave the officials instructions to regularly inform him of the investigation’s status and apprehend the culprits as soon as possible. A group consisting of three to four persons who are rivals of the donor of the temple chariot are being investigated by the authorities and the cops are collecting proof to apprehend them. The SP claimed that there was no communal angle to the incident.
