Withdraw the case or we will blow you up with a bomb: Plaintiff of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura receives threat over WhatsApp call

Ashutosh Pandey, the plaintiff in the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute, received a bomb threat originating from a Pakistani phone number on Friday (23rd February). Pandey said that the individual who threatened him warned of targeting him with a bomb unless he withdrew the case. Furthermore, Pandey said that the perpetrator also chanted anti-India slogans during the call. Pandey has filed a formal complaint with the police. The police are investigating the matter.

According to reports, the Pakistani man issued the threat by making a WhatsApp call on the mobile of Hindu party litigant Ashutosh Pandey at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday (23rd February). The caller said on a WhatsApp call, “Withdraw the lawsuit, or we’ll blow you up with a bomb. All your Facebook and Twitter IDs will be hacked. We will kill you if you don’t withdraw the case. Inshallah, you will be killed by a bomb. We will bury your ashes under the same Eidgah that you have been always talking about.”

Bhriguvanshi Ashutosh Pandey of Vrindavan Mathura is the in-charge of Shrimad Maheshwari Dham Siddhpeeth and Mata Shakumbari Peeth. He is a litigant and a party to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi case. He is also the chairman of ‘Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Nirman Trust, Mathura’. Ashutosh Pandey, along with ‘Shri Krishna Sena’ national president Manish Davar and Karan Sharma, were going to Mathura by car after attending the hearing of the Janmabhoomi case in the High Court on Friday.

Ashutosh Pandey has complained to the Kotwali police in Fatehpur district after receiving the threat call. In his complaint, he said that he received a WhatsApp call near Fatehpur border threatening him not to pursue the case and withdraw the case. The caller also raised anti-India slogans, claiming to be a member of a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation.

SSI Santosh Kumar said, “An investigation is launched on receiving this complaint. After checking the mobile number through surveillance, it will be clear where the number is from. The victim has said that he was similarly threatened with death about 22 days ago.”

Fatehpur ASP Vijay Shankar Mishra spoke to the media about this. He said, “The WhatsApp number is being investigated by the surveillance cell. A case has been registered in this regard at Kotwali Nagar police station.”

Hanif Sheikh, member of banned Islamist group SIMI, arrested by Delhi Police after 22 years

0

Delhi Police’s Southern Range Special Cell claimed on Sunday to have arrested Hanif Sheikh, one of the most elusive members of the banned organization Student’s Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Officials said that the arrested accused was wanted in connection with an unlawful activities and sedition case and was declared a proclaimed offender.

According to officials, Hanif Sheikh had been absconding for more than 22 years in a case of sedition and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act registered against him at the New Friends Colony Police Station in 2001. He was also declared a proclaimed offender in said case in 2002 by the trial court. He was also the editor of SIMI magazine ‘Islamic Movement’ (Urdu version) and indoctrinated many gullible Muslim youths during the last 25 years.

Haneef Hudai’s name printed on the magazine ‘Islamic Movement’ (Urdu version) was the only lead available to the police, due to which his identity could not be established. He had been chased by the police team for the last 4 years. Police said that a team of the Southern Range Special Cell collected information from different parts of the country and worked consistently to identify the hideouts of the most wanted Hanif Sheikh.

During the entire operation, they worked consistently and travelled extensively across different states to identify the hideouts of the most wanted Hanif Sheikh. The team deployed their informers/sources in those areas and worked day and night to develop the information received with the help of informers. The police further checked the presence of his associates and made efforts to track them. The relentless and committed efforts of the team bore fruit when specific information was received that the accused, Hanif Sheikh Haineef Hudai, had changed his identity to Mohd. Hanif, and was working as a teacher in an Urdu school in Bhusawal, Maharashtra.

“A team was stationed there, and after painstaking efforts, they zeroed in upon him. Based on this information, a raiding party was formed, and a trap was laid near Asha Tower, Khadka Road, Bhusawal, Maharashtra. At about 02:50 PM on February 22, 2024, one suspicious person coming from Mohmadin Nagar to Khadka roadside was identified as Hanif Sheikh. Members of the team started cornering him, but Hanif Sheikh sensed the presence of police and tried to escape,” said the police.

“After a scuffle, he was nabbed by the team. Hanif Sheikh has been arrested under the appropriate section of law in case FIR No. 532 dated September 28, 2001, U/s 153A/153B/120B/34/174A IPC & 3 r/w 10/13/17/20 U.A.P Act PS New Friends Colony (investigated by Spl. Cell/SR),” the police added.

On September 27, 2001, office bearers of SIMI were addressing a press conference near their headquarters in Jamia Nagar, Delhi, when police conducted a raid and many SIMI activists were arrested. Several SIMI cadres fled from the scene and absconded.

Incriminating material and provoking literature in the form of SIMI magazines (Islamic Movement), audio/videos in floppies, SIMI posters, computers, and photo albums were recovered from SIMI headquarters.

“Accused Hanif Sheikh was also one of the think tank members of Wahadat-e-Islam and is playing an important role in Maharashtra and other adjoining states. He was also involved in collecting money in the garb of donations for supporting and financing the agenda of the banned organization SIMI as well as Wahadat-e-Islam,” according to the police.

“His further activities are being verified. He will be taken to various places in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and UP to probe his roles. Further interrogation of the accused and investigation of the present case are in progress,” the police said.

The Student’s Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was formed in 1976 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The idea of this organization is to establish Dar-Ul-Islam (Land of Islam). ‘Jihad’ and ‘Shahadat’ are the basic slogans of SIMI. Due to the involvement of SIMI activists in various anti-national activities, the said organization was banned by Govt. of India. Further investigation is underway, officials added.

Rumours of my firing exaggerated and highly inaccurate: After being ‘fired’ by Bjyu’s shareholders, B. Raveendran asserts he continues to be the CEO

0

The chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of the ed-tech company Bjyu’s, Byju Raveendran wrote a letter to staff members the day after the company’s investors voted for a change in leadership. He described the 23rd February’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM) as a “farce” and stated that he would stay in his position as CEO and management would remain unchanged at the firm.

The development transpired on 24th February after stakeholders sacked him and his kin from the board over charges of “mismanagement and failures.” More than 60% of the stockholders decided to kick out Byju Raveendran and his family members from the company. However, the company declined to accept the decision, claiming that the meeting which was conducted without the founders’ presence was invalid and ineffectual.

Byju Reveendra noted, “I am writing this letter to you as the CEO of our company. Contrary to what you may have read in the media, I continue to remain CEO, the management remains unchanged, and the board remains the same. Put differently, it is ‘business as usual’ at Byju’s. To reemphasise, the rumours of my firing have been greatly exaggerated and highly inaccurate.” He declared that numerous important regulations had been “violated” and rejected the meeting’s decision.

The 44-year-old entrepreneur highlighted, “Just as you can’t change the rules of a game midway without agreement from all players, we can’t alter how our company is run without following these strict guidelines. This means that whatever was decided in that meeting does not count, because it didn’t stick to the established rules. It is crucial for everyone to understand the specific issues that make this EGM a farce.”

Regarding the EGM to be “invalid” Byju Raveendran and his family chose not to be a part of it. The Byju’s boss also pointed out in his email to the staff that a quorum was needed for the investor meeting, and that the quorum required the participation of at least one Founder Director. “To pass any resolution the meeting needs to have a proper quorum, a set of people who are mandatory. Our articles are clear on the quorum requiring the presence of at least one founder director. Consequently, any resolutions taken at the meeting are not enforceable as per law.”

He stated, “The claims made by a small group of select minority shareholders that they have unanimously passed the resolution in the EGM is completely wrong. Only 35 out of 170 shareholders (representing around 45 per cent of shareholding) voted in favour of the resolution. That in itself shows the very limited support that this irrelevant meeting received.” Furthermore, he commented that he is confident that the truth would ultimately come to light despite the “relentless trial by the media.”

He claimed, “Our Shareholder Agreement grants the authority to modify the board’s composition, the management team, and the CEO’s role exclusively to the board, not to a group of shareholders.” He expressed that in recognition of this, the small group of investors has worded their resolution to ask the board to “consider” rather than to really mandate changes to the current board structure.

According to him, the Shareholder Agreement and the Articles of Association, along with the applicable company legislation, serve as the foundation for the business’s governance. In the note, he voiced, “These documents together form the constitutional backbone of our operations, setting out the rules and procedures by which we must abide.”

The EGM passed resolutions that removed founder Byju Raveendran from his position as CEO as well as his brother Riju Raveendran and wife Divya Gokulnath from their respective directorships and management positions. Moreover, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) was petitioned by shareholders led by Prosus accusing the company of mismanagement and oppression.

Raveendran Byju, his wife and his brother, the only three members on the company board as of now stayed away from the meeting that was called by a group of six investors. These investors together own more than 32% of Think & Learn (T&L), the corporation that manages the online tuition platform Byju’s. Sources close to the investors claimed that more than 60% of the shareholders present in the meeting voted in favour of all seven motions, which included firing the current management, reorganizing the board and conducting a third-party forensic inquiry of the company’s purchases. However, sources close to Byju’s estimated the figure at 47%.

According to a statement from Prosus, a well-known international technology investor, the EGM resolutions recommended the resolution of outstanding governance, financial mismanagement, and compliance issues at Byju’s, a reconstitution of the board of directors to boot the founders of Think & Learn from control and a change in the company’s leadership.

In a statement, Prosus, one of the six investors who had summoned the EGM, stated that “shareholders unanimously passed all resolutions put forward for a vote.” Once a household name in the nation for ed-tech, Byju’s is now dealing with several issues, including growing losses, a serious financial shortage and a falling valuation.

However, the decision taken at the EGM will remain on hold as the conduct of the meeting was challenged in court. Raveendran had filed a petition at the Karnataka High Court against the investor’s decision to convene the EGM, and the court will pronounce the verdict on 13 March. The court had declined to stay the meeting.

Meanwhile, Byju Raveendran is probably going to receive a lookout circular (LOC), as requested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) to the Bureau of Immigration (BOI). The central agency asked BOI earlier this month to issue a new LOC in an effort to prevent him from leaving the nation.

Sandeshkhali Protests: All six members of independent fact-finding committee arrested under preventive sections by West Bengal Police

0

Six members of an independent fact-finding committee, on their way to Sandeshkhali, were arrested at Bhojerhat in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday afternoon.

Following the arrest, the committee members were brought to PHQ Lal Bazaar Kolkata.

Saikat Ghosh, Deputy Commissioner, Bhangar Division, Kolkata Police, said while speaking to the media, “We were requesting them to not cross from here, but they were trying to break the police barricade unlawfully. So, we had to arrest them under Preventive Sections.”

“If there is information of a ‘breach of peace’, police can arrest them under preventive sections,” he added.

The Fact-Finding Committee members were stopped by police at Bhojerhat, South 24 Parganas, while they were proceeding to the trouble-torn Sandeshkhali area in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas to investigate alleged incidents of atrocities on women there.

Charu Wali Khanna, a member of the Fact-Finding Committee, expressed dissatisfaction, “We were visiting Sandeshkhali, but they have stopped us… Police have purposely stopped us and are creating problems for the common people. Police are not letting us meet the victims of Sandeshkhali…”

Another member of the Fact-Finding Committee, OP Vyas, said, “We are sitting here obediently to oppose as they (police) have stopped us illegally, which is against our rights. We’ll complain about it to the Chief Minister, Governor, Union Home Minister, and even to the Prime Minister.”

Hitting out further at the state government, he said that the constitutional machinery has collapsed in the state. “Unfortunately, Police are executing illegal orders and taking the law into their own hands. We want to meet victims of Sandeshkhali,” he added.

Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and State Ministers Sujit Bose and Partha Bhowmik interacted with the locals of Sandeshkhali. After their interaction with the villagers, West Bengal Irrigation Minister Partha Bhowmick said that not a single woman has raised the issue of assault.

While responding to Bhowmick’s statement, West Bengal Opposition leader and state BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said, “The TMC has been in denial mode since the beginning… But later, the police of the TMC government recorded the statement of two women under section 164 in front of the magistrate. Why was the action under 164 was carried out if there was no rape?”

Further lashing out at the state government, he said, “Either Partha Bhowmik is lying or Mamata Banerjee and her police are lying… The case should be given to national investigation agencies otherwise the police will suppress the matter…”

“Divine Experience, Bhagwan Shri Krishna bless us all”: PM Modi after taking a deep dive to offer prayers at the submerged Dwarka city

After laying the foundation for multiple development projects in Dwarka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a deep dive to offer prayers at the Dwarka city immersed underwater. After offering prayers at Shri Krishna’s abode, PM Modi shared stunning pictures and described it as a “divine experience”. He added that he felt connected to an ancient era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion and wished that Bhagwan Shri Krishna blesses us all.

Elated PM Modi wrote, “To pray in the city of Dwarka, which is immersed in the waters, was a very divine experience. I felt connected to an ancient era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion. May Bhagwan Shri Krishna bless us all.”

Earlier in the day on 25th February, PM Modi dedicated Sudarshan Setu, which connects Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island, to the nation. The bridge has been built at a cost of around Rs 980 crores. It is the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, with a length of 2.32 kilometres. There are verses of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita on both sides of the Sudarshan Setu.

Backward, intolerant: France deports radical Tunisian Imam for referring to French flag as “Satanic” and “of no value to Allah”

France recently expelled a Tunisian Muslim cleric after he was arrested over allegations of radicalism, and making unacceptable remarks about the French flag. Taking to X, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, on Thursday, announced the deportation of Tunisian cleric Mahjoub Mahjoubi, referring to him as a “Radical Imam”.

Interior Minister Darmanin tweeted, “The radical Imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi has just been expelled from the national territory, less than 12 hours after his arrest. We will not let people get away with anything.”

Mahjoubi’s deportation came after he made a social media post where he referred to the French tricolour flag as “satanic” and of “no value to Allah“. Notably, the French flag has three colours – blue, white, and red.

According to France 24, the 52-year-old Tunisian Imam was arrested on Thursday, and subsequently deported to Tunisia. He arrived in Tunisia shortly before midnight on a flight from Paris. Mahjoubi resided in France since the 1980s, and is a father of five. Although all his children hold French citizenship, Mahjoubi held a residency permit in France, which the French Interior Minister, Darmanin, has revoked. Until his deportation, Mahjoubri served at the Ettaouba mosque in Bagnols-sur-Ceze in the South of France.

According to the French government, Mahjoubi’s ideology could potentially incite behaviours contrary to the Republic’s values. This includes discrimination against women, withdrawal into identity, tensions with the Jewish community, and encouragement of jihadist radicalisation.

The expulsion order stated that Mahjoubi had “conveyed a literal, backward, intolerant, and violent conception of Islam, likely to encourage behaviours contrary to the values of the Republic, discrimination against women, identity retreat, tensions with the Jewish community, and jihadist radicalisation”.

According to the deportation order, the Tunisian imam also referred to the Jewish people as the enemy, and called for the destruction of Western society.

Meanwhile, the Muslim cleric defended himself claiming it had been a “slip of the tongue”. He claimed that his statements were misconstrued and asserted that he never intended to disrespect the French flag, Reuters reported. Additionally, his lawyer announced that they would appeal the expulsion procedure and argue against the decision.

Nonetheless, the French government has adopted a stern policy against radicalism and toughened its immigration law to make France stronger.

In another post on X on Thursday, French Interior Minister Darmanin stressed that the expulsion was a “demonstration” that a recently approved immigration law “makes France stronger”. He added, “Firmness is the rule.”

Pertinent to note that with the rising popularity of right-wing leaders in France, there has been widespread demand to make tough migration laws and the government’s response is being seen in line with that. In the past, it has also taken action against practices/customs/activities that go against French values.

Earlier in January this year, France Foreign Minister Gerald Darmanin had announced that the country would stop foreign imams paid from abroad from entering France starting 1st January. The move was aimed at reducing foreign interference among the French Muslim community, to combat radicalism and separatist sentiments. Incidentally, a similar policy was also implemented by Germany.

Last year in August, the country banned Islamic attire in Abaya in schools to implement a stricter dress code. Further, it has firmly dealt with cases of Islamist attacks in the country to protect its society from radical Islam.

No Mann Ki Baat for next three months due to Lok Sabha elections, announces PM Narendra Modi

0

‘Mann Ki Baat’, a monthly radio programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will not be broadcast for the next three months in the view of upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the PM said on Sunday.

“Mann ki Baat will not be broadcast for the next three months in view of upcoming Lok Sabha polls,” PM Modi said while addressing the nation in his 110th edition of the programme.

The 110th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast, Mann Ki Baat, aired on Sunday, at 11 am, marking his second programme of the year.

The programme is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month.

Launched on October 3, 2014, Mann Ki Baat aims to connect with various segments of Indian society, encompassing women, the elderly, and the youth.

Through this platform, PM Modi disseminates information about government initiatives, policies, and welfare schemes.

Apart from 22 Indian languages and 29 dialects, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is broadcast in 11 foreign languages, including French, Chinese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Burmese, Baluchi, Arabic, Pashtu, Persian, Dari, and Swahili. Mann Ki Baat was broadcast by more than 500 broadcast centres of All India Radio.

A study conducted regarding the impact of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on the lives of the people showed that over 100 crore people have connected to ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at least once, it speaks directly to people, celebrates grassroots-level changemakers and achievements of people, and has influenced people towards positive actions.

Notably, in his 110th edition of ‘Mann ki Baat’ on Sunday, the PM said that women’s power in the country is touching new heights of progress in every field.

“After a few days on March 8, we will celebrate Women’s Day. This special day is an opportunity to salute the contributions of women’s power in the developmental journey of the country. The great poet Bharathiyar Ji has said that the world will prosper only when women get equal opportunities. Nari Shakti (women power) is touching new heights of progress in every field,” the PM said.

The PM also highlighted the ‘NaMo Drone Didi’ scheme, launched by PM Modi last year, and said that the initiative has brought changes in the lives of women living in rural areas.

“Who would have thought till a few years ago that in our country, women living in villages would also fly drones? But today this is becoming possible. Today, there is so much discussion about Drone Didi in every village, Namo Drone Didi, Namo Drone Didi is on everyone’s lips. Everyone is talking about them,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Namo Drone Didi scheme last year. Since then, apart from IFFCO, many fertilizer companies have come forward to empower women working in self-help group schemes such as ‘Lakhpati didi’.

A landmark effort to empower women working in the agriculture sector involves the deployment of 15,000 drones and making ‘drone didis’ out of women–(SHGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Mahila Kisan Drone Kendras initiative.

Under this ‘Drone Ki Udaan’ program, these SHGs undergo training on drone operation and maintenance.

TMC distances itself from Sheikh Shahjahan’s brother after angry villagers set his property on fire, cops stop fact-finding committee from reaching Sandeshkhali

A day after angry villagers of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal set fire to the property of Sheikh Shahjahan’s brother Sirajuddin, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is attempting to distance itself from him.

The matter became evident when West Bengal Cabinet Minister Partha Bhowmik went to Sandeshkhali on Saturday (24th February) and claimed that Sheikh Sirajuddin had been removed as the ‘head of the Panchayat’ a long time ago.

He however did not specify when the brother of Sheikh Shahjahan was relieved from the position. “Ajit Majhi has replaced Sirajuddin,” Bhowmik was heard saying.

While speaking about the matter, a BJP leader said, “Once a controversy comes to light, so-called suspension or removal from party posts is announced. However, as soon as the controversy dies down, the same leaders come to spotlight again”.

The Sandeshkhali protests in West Bengal turned violent on Friday (23rd February) as angry people torched the properties of Sheikh Sirajuddin.

Armed with sticks, the protesters set ablaze thatched structures near a fishing yard in Sandeshkhali’s Belmajur area and vented their anger against TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his brother Siraj.

On Sunday (25th February), the members of a fact-finding committee protested against the West Bengal police and government after they were stopped from meeting the victims in Sandeshkhali village.

While speaking about the matter, a member said, “We are sitting here obediently to oppose as they (police) have stopped us illegally which is against our rights. We’ll complain about it to the CM, Governor, Union HM and even to the PM. During Ram Navami, they did the same and stopped us because they were hiding something… I don’t understand what kind of picture this state govt wants to portray before the world”.

The fact-finding committee added, “Constitutional machinery is collapsed in the state. Unfortunately, Police are executing illegal orders and taking the law in hands. We want to meet victims of Sandeshkhali…”

The committee consists of ex-Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice L Narasimha Reddy, ex-IPS officer Raj Pal Singh, ex- NCW member Charu Wali Khanna, journalist Sanjeev Nayak, advocates OP Vyas and Bhavna Bajaj.

Decisions are taken for the party, not a person – Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh justifies giving away Ahmed Patel’s bastion Bharuch to AAP in Lok Sabha polls

On Sunday, 25th February, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh justified giving away late Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s bastion, Bharuch, to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. His statement came after Ahmed Patel’s daughter Mumtaz shared her disappointment at the party’s decision to give the ticket away to AAP.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Ramesh said, “The party has to make some tough decisions considering the bigger picture. Even I was a little disappointed, but decisions are made for the party, not a particular person.”

Earlier, on 24th February, Congress and AAP announced seat sharing in several states, including Gujarat and Punjab, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ahmed Patel, Congress’s veteran leader who died in 2020 of COVID-19-related complications, had started his political career in Bharuch in 1976, contesting the local body polls. Since then, he climbed the stairs to become one of the most prominent leaders in the party, and Bharuch became his bastion. However, Congress and AAP came to an understanding that the AAP candidate would contest the seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which led to waves of criticism from several Congress leaders, and Ahmed Patel’s children.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reacted to the development and hit out at Congress for not treating its leaders equally. In a post on X, BJP’s IT Cell head Amit Malviya said, “In the Congress, one dynasty is more equal than the others. Everyone knows of the differences between the late Ahmed Patel and Rahul Gandhi. Giving away Bharuch to AAP is Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to erase his legacy and humiliate the family. Gandhis believe in use and throw,” while sharing a post of Ahmed’s daughter Mumtaz.

In an emotional post on X, Ahmed Patel’s daughter Mumtaz apologised to the Congress cadre for being unable to secure the Bharuch seat. She wrote, “We won’t let Ahmed Patel’s 45 years of legacy go in vain.” She used the hashtag “Bharuch ki beti (daughter of Bharuch)” in the post.

Ahmed Patel was a close aide of Sonia Gandhi and was often seen as a troubleshooter for the top Congress leader.

Farmer protests: 34 cops injured in Hisar clash, Singhu and Tikri borders to partially reopen, mobile internet restored, ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on hold

0

The Haryana government has started to resume the amenities that were snapped due to the farmer protests. Internet services which were suspended from 13th February in seven districts of the state including Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Jind and Hisar were restored after 24th February midnight. Mobile internet and bulk SMS services were first discontinued on 11th February which was then extended on 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, and 23 February.

The process of partially opening the borders between Tikri and Singhu has also been commenced by Delhi Police. Five of the six layers of barricading have been removed by the cops. They worked through the night to tear down the concrete barricades. A police source revealed, “We have started removing barricades from the Singhu border and intend to open two lanes for both incoming and outgoing traffic by Sunday evening.”

The border serves as the entry point to Punjab and Haryana. One lane has been unblocked in Tikri, according to a senior officer. He added, “We are planning to open more lanes, but it will take some time.” Bahadurgarh borders Tikri on one side and Mundka on the other. The two borders were sealed on 13th February as agitators from Punjab began their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.

Furthermore, other districts which shared their borders with Punjab were also barred. The Tukar border in the Pehowa area and the Kumhar Majra border in Isma Allahabad were closed off along with National Highway 44 near the Markanda River in Shahabad till late 24th February night. However, some respite is anticipated on the national highway in addition to the secured borders as well.

Meanwhile, the farmers have once again announced a march to Delhi on 26th February in response to calls from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha. Tractor marches by farmers will head down the Yamuna Expressway towards Delhi. A meeting of the Bharatiya Kisan Union was held on 24th February to make this tractor march a success. It was chaired by Ranveer Mukhia and moderated by Robin Nagar.

According to Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) Western Uttar Pradesh president Pawan Khatana, all labourers and farmers will congregate at the Dankaur Salarpur underpass on 26th February at 10:00 am with tractor-trolleys. They will then proceed along the Yamuna Expressway in the direction of Delhi. A peaceful tractor march has been called for by the organization.

After the development, the authorities started to convince the farmers. In light of the declaration and ‘Shab-e-Barat’ on 25th February, Section 144 has been implemented in the district. Farmers in the district will not take part in the tractor march, per police officials. However, discussions are being held with the office bearers of all farmer organizations.

More police officers will be stationed at all Delhi and Noida entry and departure points from 25th February. Anil Yadav, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) Traffic, pointed out that route diversion is another option and a decision in this regard will be taken following the meeting. Traffic-related information will be published on multiple platforms frequently to prevent inconvenience to individuals.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) will also stage a demonstration with tractors on the Eastern Peripheral and Meerut Expressway on 26th February demanding legislation on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other demands. Rakesh Tikait, BKU’s spokesperson made the announcement. Ompla Singh, another BKU leader claimed that the traffic would not be stopped during the march. Farmers will only protest and march some distance with tractors on the expressway. They intend to employ a single-side lane. Traffic will not be stopped during this time. He threatened that the government would have to fulfil the demands of the farmers otherwise farmers would go to Delhi on 14th March.

On the other hand, Sarwan Singh Pandher earlier noted on 23rd February that they will remain at the two protest locations on the Punjab-Haryana border till 29th February when the next course of action will be determined. The decision was taken by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), who are leading the current agitation at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Sarwan Singh Pandher mentioned, “The next announcement about the agitation will be made on February 29,” while talking to the media at the Khanauri protest site.

He also provided information about the activities the farmers will be participating in over the next few days including the candle march on 24th February, seminars on topics pertaining to farmers on 25th February, effigies of the World Trade Organization and the Center will be burned on 26th February and over the next two days, there will be multiple meetings of SKM (Non-Political) and KMM. On 21st February, farmer leaders decided to postpone the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march for two days following the death of a protestor and the injuries of around twelve police officers during altercations in Khanauri.

Meanwhile, Hansi Superintendent of Police (SP) Maqsood Ahmed reported on 24th February that at least 34 police personnel, including him and two Deputy-Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officials, suffered injuries following a confrontation that broke out between the Haryana Police and farmers at Kheri Chopta village in Hisar one day earlier. Speaking at a press conference in Hansi, he remarked that the police had used tear gas shells and water cannons to contain the farmers as they tried to stop them from advancing from Kheri Chopta village when the latter pelted stones on them. He requested the farmers to uphold peace and not violate law and order.

The dispute started on 23rd February when the farmers from Kheri Chopta hamlet declared they were going to Khanauri. Around 2:30 pm, when they began making their way to their tractor-trailers, the police placed heavy security in place to halt their movement. Cops used water cannons and tear gas shells to scatter farmers as they began going from the protest site and the latter hurled stones on them.

The top cop added, “No first information report (FIR) was registered against farmers. We held a meeting with farmer leaders and urged them to restore peace. We had released 16 farmers, who were detained during the clash.” Farmer leader Vikas Sisar declared that they would not stop protesting at Kheri Chopta village until their demands were fulfilled.
