NIA convicts ISIS terrorists Atif and Faisal for the murder of retired principal Ram Shukla in 2016, had shot him after noticing his Kalawa and Tilak

0

On Monday, September 5, the special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Lucknow convicted two highly radicalised ISIS terrorists Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal Khan. The duo are guilty of the murder of a retired school principal Ram Babu Shukla that took place in Kanpur in 2016. The court also found them guilty of promoting the agenda of the terrorist organisation ISIS.

A report by the Hindi daily Jagran revealed how the innocent principal was targeted only because of his religious identity. It read that the duo had reportedly shot the retired Hindu teacher in broad daylight after seeing a Kalawa on his wrist and a Tilak on his forehead. Moreover, the terrorists simply carried out the killing because they wanted to test the new pistol they had recently acquired from their handlers and also because they wanted to instil fear amongst the non-Muslims.

A Vishnapuri resident named Ramesh Babu Shukla was killed on October 24, 2016, while he was returning home on his bicycle. The terrorists attacked him when he reached the Pyondi village. At first, the police began investigating the case as a simple murder case and registered a case against unknown people.

Meanwhile, in March 2017, a deadly blast happened on the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train.  The train explosion on March 7, 2017, left 10 injured. This case was also investigated by the NIA. The breakthrough in the ISIS-backed criminal conspiracy case came when the main accused Mohammad Faisal Khan was arrested for his involvement in the Madhya Pradesh train explosion of March 7, 2017. Disclosures made by him led to the arrest of his other associates including Atif Muzaffar.

In March this year, the NIA court awarded death sentences to Atif, Faisal, and five others in a terror conspiracy case registered in 2017. Another accused, Mohammad Atif, was given life imprisonment in the case. Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal Khan’s role in the murder of Ramesh Babu Shukla (60), the retired Kanpur principal, came to light during their questioning in this train blast case.

The NIA court, meanwhile, has charged Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal Khan under the sections of IPC 320 (murder) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) along with sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment in the case on September 11.

On September 4, NIA in a press release stated that the chargesheet filed against the convicts Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal Khan in 2018 revealed that they had been radicalised by the ISIS ideology and were out to kill whom they believed to be ‘Kafirs’ (disbelievers).

“Investigations by NIA revealed that the accused were operating under the influence of ISIS, a proscribed terrorist organisation. They had conspired to carry out terrorist activities (Jihad) in India by targeting non-Muslims through violent acts. In furtherance of their conspiracy to promote the ISIS ideology & agenda, they murdered Shukla to strike terror and alarm in the minds of the common people,” the NIA press note read.

Earlier, on March 7, 2017, the third accused in the case, Mohammad Saifulla, was neutralised in a confrontation with the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Uttar Pradesh.

The convicts killed the Hindu teacher after identifying his religious identity

During interrogation in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train blast case, the arrested ISIS terrorists revealed that two of their associates- Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal Khan, along with Mohammad Saifullah, had murdered the retired Principal Ramesh Babu Shukla to strike terror in the minds of the ‘Kafirs’ and increase the influence of ISIS.

Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal also confessed during questioning that they wanted to instil terror in the minds of non-Muslims and strengthen ISIS’ influence. They further added that they had been brand-new guns by their handlers so he decided to murder someone to test it out.

The two approached Ram Babu Shukla on the fatal day of October 24, 2016, while he was riding his bicycle back. They recognized him as a Hindu when they noticed that he was wearing a tilak on his forehead and a Kalava on his wrist. Shukla was questioned about his name. The two shot the former principal with their revolver and fled the scene as soon as he revealed his name and that he was a Hindu.

The NIA recovered the pistol used in the murder from Hyde House, Lucknow. The bullet recovered from the body of the Principal was tested at FSL Chandigarh. On examination it was found that Ramesh Babu Shukla was killed by the bullet fired from the pistol recovered from Hyde House.

Salangpur Temple controversy: Swaminarayan sect removes Lord Hanuman murals after meeting with Hindu saints under VHP’s initiative

On 5th September, the Salangpur Temple controversy ended after the temple administration removed the Lord Hanuman murals in the wee hours. Notably, on 4th September, the saints of the Swaminarayan sect and other saints of Hinduism met at Ahmedabad and decided to remove the disputed murals before sunrise on 5th September. The meeting was organized by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Shri Kashtbhanjan Temple where the controversy erupted is located at Sarangpur in Botad district of Gujarat. The temple is one of the most prominent temples of Swaminarayan sect. The disputed murals were installed as part of the renovation and beautification of the temple premises. A 54-feet idol of Lord Hanuman was installed and murals were placed around it.

The process to remove the murals started late at night on 4th September. The lights were shut off in the temple premises, and curtains were erected around the murals amid tight police security. New murals were added to replace the disputed ones.

Saints announced the removal of disputed murals on 4th September

On 4th September, the Salangpur Temple administration announced that they would remove the disputed mural of Lord Hanuman by the 5th of September morning. The decision was taken during a meeting of saints where Vadtal Swaminarayan Sanstha assured that the murals would be removed. An official statement on the matter was released following the meeting.

As per reports, the meeting was organised by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). The saints and Vadtal Temple saints met at Shivanand Ashram to discuss the matter. In the two-hour meeting, they decided to remove all the disputed murals by the morning of 5th September.

Furthermore, VHP said they would meet different sects of Swaminarayan Sampraday and saints and acharyas of the Hindu religion to solve other controversies to ensure Hindus function as one community.

Saints and Hindu leaders met at Gandhinagar in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi. They came to a resolution to solve the controversy as soon as possible.

Salangpur Temple mural controversy

On 2nd September, it was reported that a controversy erupted in Gujarat over the murals depicting Lord Hanuman in Salangpur, where the Hindu deity is portrayed as a servant of Sahajanand Swami. There was a lot of opposition to this on social media, so saints of Sanatan dharma came ahead to protest this display of God as a servant of a Saint. Many Hindu saints and mahants publicly expressed their anger, including Morari Bapu, famous saint Harshad Bharti Bapu, and Mahant Manidhar Bapu of Kabrau Mughal Dham in Kutch.

The Swaminarayan sect, which is divided into various factions, venerates Sahajanand Swami (1781-1830) as Lord Swaminarayan, around whom the sect coalesced. The Hanuman temple in Salangpur, under the management of the Vadtal Gadi faction, erected an impressive 54-foot-tall statue of Hanumanji Maharaj. On the base of the statue, numerous murals were created. However, in the murals, Hanumanji has been depicted as a devoted disciple of Sahajananda Swami.

In these murals, Hanumanji is portrayed standing before Sahajananda Swami, displaying deep reverence with folded hands in a salutation pose. Another mural depicts Hanumanji seated in an asana, once again with hands folded in a gesture of profound respect. Controversy ensued when images of these murals began to circulate widely.

Bihar Education Department withdraws notification to reduce school holidays during Hindu festivals after BJP, and teachers association warn of protest

On 4th September, the Bihar Education Department withdrew the notification curtailing the number of festival holidays in government schools. The 29th August notification, which has now been withdrawn, sparked widespread protests by the teachers and opposition leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the latest notification, the Education Department said that the 29th August notification has been withdrawn with immediate effect.

Controversy over reducing holidays during Hindu festivals

On 29th August, the Bihar Education Department issued a notification announcing that the number of festival holidays between September and December has been reduced from 23 to 11. Additional Chief Secretary KK Pathak issued the notification to ‘improve the school education system’ in Bihar.

As per the notification, the Rakshabandhan holiday has been scrapped, the number of Holidays for Durga Puja has been reduced from six to three and nine holidays for Diwali to Chhatth have been reduced to four.

Regarding the decision, Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Begusarai Shandilya Giriraj Singh said, “Education Department, Bihar Government has canceled holidays on Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. Tomorrow, they may impose Sharia and ban Hindu festivals altogether.”

Teachers association of Bihar ‘Educators of Bihar’ said, “Even after deducting 52 Sundays and 60 holidays on festivals, the schools run for 253 days. The decision taken by the education department is dictatorial. The department should take cognizance of the matter and reverse the notification; otherwise, all teachers will protest against it and shake the foundation of the state government.”

Aditya-L1 Mission: Here is how the European Space Agency is helping ISRO with crucial data and expertise from the SOHO Mission

India’s first solar mission, the Aditya-L1 satellite is on its journey to uncover secrets of the Sun. In its efforts, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been getting assistance from the European Space Agency (ESA) for the success of this scientific mission.

The ESA shared two separate threads to explain how it is supporting ISRO in the solar mission. The foreign space agency on its website also noted that ESA is supporting Aditya-L1 in two separate ways. These include offering deep space communication services and aiding ISRO in validating critical new flight dynamics software.

Firstly, ESA is providing deep space communication services to the Indian mission. It is important to note that, ESA is one of the main providers of ground station support to the AdityaL1 mission. These stations operated by ESA are being used to send the commands that control Aditya-L1 in flight, to receive vital data on the spacecraft’s health and location, and to receive the scientific data it sends to Earth.

ESA service manager Ramesh Chellathurai is the agency’s Cross-Support Liaison Officer for ISRO. Chellathurai stated that the agency’s global network of deep space tracking stations and use of internationally recognized technical standards allows them to help their partners track, command, and receive data from their spacecraft almost anywhere in the solar system.

In an official statement, the ESA official said, “For the Aditya-L1 mission, we are providing support from all three of our 35-metre deep space antennas in Australia, Spain, and Argentina, as well as support from our Kourou station in French Guiana and coordinated support from goon hilly Earth Station in the UK.”

The website added that the ESA stations are supporting the Aditya-L1 mission from beginning to end. The support ranges from the critical ‘Launch and Early Orbit Phase’, throughout the journey to L1, and to sending commands to and receiving scientific data from Aditya-L1 for multiple hours per day over the next two years of routine operations.

Flight dynamics and testing the ‘orbit determination’ software

Secondly, the ESA assisted ISRO last year with the validation of important new flight dynamics software. Notably, when India’s solar mission reaches its intended destination, Lagrangian 1 (L1) point, it will join other spacecraft like the ESA/NASA Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), which has been at L1 since 1996.

Here it is important to note that Lagrangian points are the locations where the gravitational force exerted by the Earth and the Sun cancel out each other and there are five such Lagrangian points. This provides stability to the satellite. However, this is a dynamic situation, hence it is tricky to keep track of this L-1 point.

Click here, to know more about the mission objective and about various payloads on the Aditya-L1 spacecraft.

The official ESA website states that L1 is one of the ‘unstable’ Lagrange equilibrium points and keeping a spacecraft exactly at the L1 point is practically impossible. So, the spacecraft enters orbit around L1 as if the Lagrange point were an ‘invisible planet’. Consequently, spacecraft must perform ‘station keeping’ maneuvers roughly once a month to keep them in the correct orbit.

Now, to keep track of this unstable orbit, with slight trajectory errors that could prove to be fatal, ISRO designed and developed new orbit determination software for Aditya-L1. This software applies mathematical formulas for tracking data from the spacecraft to calculate its past, present, and future location in a process known as ‘orbit determination’.

To avoid any mishap and utilize the expertise of ESA, ISRO roped in the European agency to validate its orbit determination software.

Evidently, the ESA has an incredible track record in this as it highlighted a major mishap that it averted in 1998.

The ESA noted that in June 1998, the SOHO mission experienced an issue and failed to carry out its station-keeping. Subsequently, the error in its orbit grew quickly and unpredictably and the agency lost contact with the spacecraft.

Afterward, it began drifting into the void. Later, a combined team of NASA and ESA experts worked out and safely recovered the spacecraft. They eventually found it far away from its expected position and reestablished contact.

The ESA noted that 25 years later, SOHO is still in orbit around L1 and returning valuable scientific data. This is another area in which ESA’s support could come in handy for India’s solar mission, that is, in fine-tuning ISRO’s orbit determination software, if needed.

Evidently, from April to December 2022, ESA and ISRO teams worked together intensively to evaluate ISRO’s strategy for operating Aditya-L1 and challenge their new orbit determination software. In these operations, they carried out various scenarios that Aditya spacecraft could encounter and then ran simulations as per the requirement.

Meanwhile, Aditya-L1 successfully completed the first orbit maneuvering exercise on Sunday (3 September). The next such exercise will be carried out on the 5th of September. Overall, five such orbit maneuvers will be performed during the satellite’s revolution around the Earth.

The Aditya L1 satellite will be in Earth’s orbit for 16 days and these five earth-bound firing exercises are being conducted for the satellite to gain the required velocity. After scheduled orbit-raising exercises, Aditya L1 will start its journey to the L1 point near the Sun. Once there, the Indian satellite will undergo a trans-Lagrangian1 insertion maneuver, that will start its 110-day-long trajectory to its destination.

PM Modi has not taken a single leave since he assumed office in 2014, reveals RTI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not taken even a single leave since he took office in 2014, an RTI (Right to Information) reply has revealed. The RTI reply added that “Prime Minister is on duty all the time.”

Notably, the said RTI was filed by a man named Prafful P Sarda in which he sought answers to two specific questions. First, the RTI sought official information on how many days Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) since he assumed charge in May 2014.

In reply, the response read, “The Prime Minister is on duty all the time. No leave has been availed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since taking office.”

In the second query, the RTI sought details regarding how many days Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been present at different events and functions since he became Prime Minister of the country up until now.

A website link (of PMO) attached to the RTI reply revealed that in his nine years as Prime Minister of the country, PM Modi has attended more than 3000 events or functions which roughly translates to almost an event a day.

The RTI reply was provided by PMO Under Secretary Parvesh Kumar. He is also the Chief Public Information Officer (CPIO) of the concerned ministry that deals with RTI queries.

The RTI reply stating that PM Modi has not availed any leave was widely shared by netizens and is going viral on social media. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared the RTI reply along with the hashtag ‘MyPMMyPride’.

Earlier, in 2019, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not taken a single leave in 20 years since he assumed public office.

During a public interaction, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar praised PM Modi’s working style including his work ethic, leadership in good times and bad, and meticulous preparation.

Describing his leadership in a cricket analogy, he said, “With Captain (PM) Modi, the net practice starts at 6 in the morning and goes on till fairly late. He expects you to take that wicket if he gives you the chance to do it.”

‘Reacted to Pakistani crowd shouting anti-India and Kashmir slogans’: Gautam Gambhir clarifies on middle-finger viral video

Former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambir clarified after a video of him flashing a middle finger to the crowd during an Asia Cup match had gone viral on Monday (September 4). The prolific Indian batsman said his reaction was in response to a section of spectators made up of Pakistani fans chanting anti-India slogans and passing comments on Kashmir.

“Not everything you see on social media is true. It is presented out of context by people with an agenda. The biggest truth about the viral incident is that if you chant anti-India slogans and pass comments on Kashmir, you will elicit a similar reaction,” Gambhir said.

“My reaction was to a section of Pakistani fans shouting Hindustan Muradabad and passing inappropriate comments on Kashmir,” Gambhir added.

Videos of Gautam Gambhir showing middle finger to the crowd with claims that he showed it over Kohli chants go viral

Earlier today, Gautam Gambhir found himself at the centre of a raging storm after a video of him flashing the middle finger to a crowd at a cricket stadium had gone viral on the internet.

A raft of social media users shared the video and fuelled canards that Gambhir’s reaction was to chants of ‘Kohli! Kohli!’ because of the fierce competitive spirit between the two cricketers, which often manifested in heated brawls when Gambhir was still active in international cricket.

While the purveyors of the viral video claimed that Gambhir was reacting to chants of Kohli, incidentally, Gambhir had recently lavished praises on Kohli, rating his imperious knock of 183 against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2012 as one of the best ODI innings by an Indian ever. Last year, after Kohli’s sensational blitzkrieg against Pakistan to clinch a nail-biting last-ball victory, Gambhir had gone into raptures about the right-hand batsman for showing steely grit and determination to take his team beyond the winning line.

The video had gone viral in the midst of the rain-stricken Asia Cup 2023, which has so far been characterised by intense rivalries and spirited competition. India played its first match against Pakistan but it was unfortunately called off midway after the Indian innings due to persistent rain in Kandy, making it impossible to continue the game. In India’s group, Pakistan has already sealed its place in the Super 4s. India too can qualify for the Super 4s if they beat Nepal on the match scheduled for September 4.
