DMK leader Saidai Sadiq makes sexual innuendos against women actor-turned-BJP leaders, DMK MP Kanimozhi apologizes on his behalf: Read what happened

On Thursday, October 27, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) women’s wing secretary and MP Kanimozhi took to Twitter to apologise for the unparliamentary remarks made by her party’s spokesperson Saidai Sadiq about women actors-turned-BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu. DMK MP Kanimozhi was responding to a Tweet posted by BJP leader Khushbu Sundar, who tagged Kanimozhi and asked if insulting women was part of the “new Dravidian Model”.

Kanimozhi Tweeted, “I apologise as a woman and human being for what was said. This can never be tolerated irrespective of whoever did it, of the space it was said or party they adhere to. And I’m able to openly apologise for this because my leader @mkstalin and my party @arivalayam don’t condone this.”

The Tweet was in response to Khushbu Sundar, the Tamil actor turned politician who resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP last year.

“When men abuse women, it just shows what kind of upbringing they have had and the toxic environment they were brought up in. These men insult the womb of a woman. Such men call themselves followers of Kalaignar. Is this new Dravidian model under CM Stalin’s rule?” Khushbu tweeted, tagging Kanimozhi.

The entire controversy erupted after a video clip surfaced on social media platforms, wherein DMK spokesperson identified as Saidai Sadiq mocked Khushbu Sundar and three other BJP leaders like actor Namitha, Gayathri Raghuram and Gautami by calling them “items” (a derogatory way of referring to women). The DMK leader was speaking at a public meeting held by the party leaders to thank Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for getting reelected as DMK leader for the second time.

In his speech, Saidai Sadiq made a sexual innuendo about Khushbu while talking about the time when she was a member of the DMK. He could be heard saying the saffron party depended only on these “actresses” to make inroads into Tamil Nadu.

“Khushbu says that lotus will bloom in Tamil Nadu. I say hair will grow back on Amit Shah’s head but the lotus has no chance of blooming in Tamil Nadu,” Sadiq had said.

“What do you think of yourself? Do you all know how many times my brother Ilaya Aruna did Khushbu? I mean he had meetings with her when she was in the DMK. He brought Khushbu around six times for meetings,” Sadiq had further claimed.

This isn’t, however, the first time Saidai Sadiq has made disparaging remarks. In May 2022, he made a transphobic statement about Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai.

Twitter blocks user for Tom and Jerry GIF, then suspends for cat GIF available on its own platform: Will Elon Musk be able to fix the systemic issues?

Twitter has been in the news for arbitrarily suspending specific handles. Its Leftist bias has been openly admitted, and even flaunted by the previous senior management. Elon Musk finally took over as the owner of the platform and began his first day by firing CEO Parag Agrawal, legal head Vijaya Gadde and CFO Ned Segal.

Recently, a popular Right Wing handle @MrSinha_ was suspended by Twitter, for the ‘offense’ of sharing a cat GIF, that was available on Twitter media.

The handle @MrSinha_ had used a cat sketch animation GIF in a reply to one of his friends. There was no text of abuse, racial slurs, or violence in his reply. In the GIF, one cartoon cat was slapping another.

The handle was locked earlier for sharing a GIF of the cartoon character Tom hitting Jerry the mouse.

Many Twitter users have expressed outrage over the arbitrary suspension of @MrSinha_ and have asked Twitter to restore the handle.

It is notable here that arbitrary suspension of Right Wing accounts has been a constant issue with Twitter. Earlier this year, popular fact-check handle @BefittingFacts was suspended citing ‘violation’ of Twitter rules. Other popular handles like The Skin Doctor and The Angry Lord have also faced suspension from Twitter for alleged policy violations.

The so-called rules, however, often do not apply to Leftist accounts on Twitter which get away with sharing blatant false news, abuse, and threats of violence.

Elon Musk, the new Twitter boss, has been vocal about the platform’s biased approach and has asserted that he would fix the issues, including politically biased censoring and bots.

Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth drops by $100 billion this year as Facebook struggles, Meta’s value plunges by $89 billion amid rising costs: Details

On Thursday, Meta’s value plunged by $89 billion after the company owner Mark Zuckerberg reported another quarter of falling revenues and also failed to entice shareholders that big bets on the metaverse and artificial intelligence have been paying off. In New York, Meta shares fell 25% as the world’s largest social networking app joined other Big Tech companies in notifying that an economic slowdown was hurting its advertising businesses as brands had cut back on marketing.

According to the reports, in addition to the broader macroeconomic difficulties, Meta faces a series of challenges, including growing competition for its Instagram platform from competitors such as short-form video app TikTok and difficulties in targeting and evaluating advertising due to Apple’s privacy policy shifts.

The company said late Wednesday that revenue in the current quarter would be in the $30 billion to $32.5 billion range, compared to analysts’ expectations of $32.2 billion. As per the reports, the net financial income of the company dropped 52% to $4.4 billion in the third quarter, falling short of consensus estimates of $5 billion. Meanwhile, revenues fell 4% to $27.71 billion, the slowest rate of growth since going public in 2012.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and chief executive of Meta said on Wednesday that the company faced near-term challenges in revenue but the fundamentals are there for a return to stronger revenue growth. He told the investors that he is pretty confident this is going in a good direction. During a conference call with the analysts, he also doubled down on his biggest bets, such as developing a short-form video format to compete with TikTok, business messaging, and the metaverse. He reassured the investors that these investments would pay off in the long run.

Meta’s unimpressive revenues came amid a relatively broad sell-off in Big Tech securities. Google’s shares dropped more than 9% on Wednesday after the company reported a sudden severe slowdown in its core search ads business, while Snap’s stock fell last week after the company reported its slowest rate of growth since going public in 2017.

Notably, investors had already questioned Meta’s decision to spend heavily on Zuckerberg’s vision of creating a digital avatar-filled world known as the metaverse, which grew rapidly during the coronavirus pandemic. This, like Meta’s other virtual and augmented reality projects, is not expected to yield results for many years. Meanwhile, Reality Labs, the company’s metaverse unit, saw revenues nearly drastically reduced to $285 million in the third quarter, while losses were $3.7 billion, up from $2.6 billion in the previous year. The company anticipates that operating losses in the unit would increase significantly year over year in 2023.

The company earlier had estimated that the total company expenses in 2022 would be in the range of $85 billion to $87 billion, recording a drop from its previous estimate of $85 billion to $88 billion. However, despite recently attempting to cut costs and freeze most hiring, it projects 2023 expenditures in the range of $96 billion to $101 billion.

“The company is making significant changes across the board to operate more efficiently and has increased scrutiny on all areas of operating expenses. But these moves will take time to play out”, the company stated adding that some attempts to find savings, like shrinking its work space and allowing more employees to work from home, would result in incremental costs in the near term.

The investors were also informed by Zuckerberg that the company’s investment in artificial intelligence functionality contributed to an increase in capital expenditure, but that was necessary as it would help to increase views of its short-form video format. To note, Zuckerberg’s net worth has also recorded a severe drop by around more than $100 billion this year as Meta faces investor pessimism about its future growth trajectory. His net worth now measures approximately $36 billion.

Facebook had 1.98 billion active daily users on average in September, a 3 percent rise from the previous year. That may appear credible, but it is far from the massive growth seen by Facebook in past years. Reportedly, the slower growth follows Facebook’s announcement in February that it had lost users for the first time in its history.

Tibet erupts in massive protest against China, left without food and water, protestors say will set things on fire if COVID restrictions are not lifted

Tibetan people have started protesting against the harsh Covid lockdowns enforced by the Chinese government. In a recent incident in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa on 26 October, angry Tibetans took to the streets against the forced lockdowns imposed upon them by the Chinese regime for over two months.

As per a report by Radio Free Asia, the October 26 protests were the first major protest in Lhasa since the 2008 Tibetan uprising. RFA also shared a video showing dozens of protestors on the streets of Lhasa. In the video, dozens of Tibetans seen resisting the work of Chinese Covid enforcement officials clad in white protective suits. In a later video, the locals are seen angrily resisting them and blocking the streets.

RFA reported citing locals that they warned the Chinese officials that if the harsh Covid restrictions are not lifted, they would start setting things on fire. The standoff reportedly occurred in the Chakrong area, in Lhasa’s Chengguan district and in the Payi area too. The Tibetans have stated that the conflict between the civilians and Chinese officials may turn violent.

As per reports, Lhasa has been under lockdown since August after some Covid cases were reported. Under China’s strict zero-Covid policy, dozens of cities have been placed under lockdown. Lhasa residents have stated that the Chinese regime’s lockdown order cam abruptly and has caused food shortages, and has even left some Covid positive people incapable of seeing proper treatment.

There were also reports of Tibetans jumping from buildings, possibly to escape quarantine.

Tibet was forcefully occupied by China over 70 years ag. In 1959, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, along with his thousands of supporters had come to India, fleeing from the Chinese government threat of persecution. China has been working since then restrict cultural and religious expression of any kind by the Tibetan people.

RFA has stated that the strict Covid restrictions and food shortages are not restricted to Tibet alone. As per its report, at least 22 people have died due to lack of food and medical care in the Uyghur majority Xinjiang region. Any social media post made to highlight the suffering of the people is deleted by the censors deployed by the Chinese government.

In September, the Central Tibetan Administration, the Tibetan Govt in exile operating from Dharmashala, India shared a statement saying that the Chinese authorities are holding Tibetans in quarantine camps without adequate food, water, or medical care. Camp managers have routinely placed infected persons with others still uninfected, resulting in a further spread of the virus, it had added.

Migrant Han Chinese workers pleading with authorities to be allowed to go home

RFA also reported that many of the workers in Lhasa are migrant workers seeking employment in Lhasa. Since the strict Covid lockdown has made it difficult to earn a livelihood, they have been pleading with the Chinese authorities to be allowed to return to their hometowns. Most of these migrant workers have been staying in Lhasa under a permit and work as daily wage labourers. Due to the lockdown that has been in place for nearly 3 months, they are unable to sustain and want to return home.

In another video shared by RFA, one of the Chinese officers is seen trying to explain to the workers that their concerns have been forwarded to senior authorities and they should stop creating a roadblock.

Some experts have stated that the Chinese authorities have not yet resorted to violence to crack down on anti-Covid protests because it involves not just Tibetans, but Han Chinese migrant workers too. The Lhasa Public Security Bureau, when contacted b RFA, denied the occurrence of any protests, and insisted that everything has been peaceful and orderly. They also added that no arrests have been made.

‘Future belongs to India’: Russian President Putin lauds PM Modi’s independent foreign policy and Make in India, hails him as a patriot

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s independent foreign policy in his annual address to the Valdai Discussion Club, a Moscow-based think tank, on Thursday, implying that a lot has been done under his leadership in India and hailed him a patriot of the country, as per the Reuters translation of Putin’s remarks.

Putin applauded PM Modi’s independent foreign policy and stated that a lot has been accomplished in India under his leadership.

The Russian president also referred to Prime Minister Modi as a patriot of the country, according to a Reuters translation of Putin’s statement in Russian.

“A lot has been done under the leadership of PM Modi. He is a patriot of his country. His idea of ‘Make in India‘ matters both economic wise and in ethics. Future belongs to India, it can also be proud of the fact that it’s the largest democracy in the world,” Putin said at Valdai Discussion Club.

The Russian president called India’s transformation from a British colony to a modern state “tremendous,” adding that the country’s 1.5 billion people and visible development results deserve everyone’s respect and admiration.

Prime Minister Modi is one of those people in the world who is capable of conducting independent foreign policy in the interest of his nation despite any attempts to do some detente or limit something, Putin remarked as reported by ANI.

“India has made tremendous progress in its development from being a British colony to a modern state. 1.5 billion people and tangible development results give reasons for everyone’s respect and admiration for India,” he asserted.

He also underlined India-Russia ties, referring to it as a special relationship and how the two countries have backed each other for decades and continue to do so.

“It has been underpinned by a close ally relationship of many decades. We’ve never had any difficult issues and supported each other and that’s happening right now. I’m sure it’ll happen in the future,” Putin said according to the translation.

Putin also stated that Prime Minister Modi has asked him to increase the supply of fertilizers, which is critical for Indian agriculture.

“We have increased the volume by 7.6 times. Trade in agriculture with India has nearly doubled,” he pointed out.

In his address to the Kremlin-affiliated institute, the Russian President also slammed the West for playing “dirty games” for global dominance, saying that he is convinced that “new centres of power will emerge in the multipolar world and the West will have to start talking as equals about our collective future.”

Putin asserted that the United States and its allies are not immune to the consequences of their own actions. During the session, Putin stated that the West cannot ignore the crisis that it has prompted.

“Only a world united by common goals can act on the challenges that it faces,” Putin continued.

“Power over the world is what the West has placed at stake in the game it plays. This game is certainly dangerous, bloody, and I would call it dirty.”

Notably, trade ties between India and Russia are reaching new heights. As per the reports, Russia’s share of India’s oil imports ramped up to an all-time high of 23% from 19% the previous month, while the Middle East’s share tumbled to 56.4% from 59%.

‘The bird is freed’: Elon Musk takes over Twitter, fires “smash Brahmanical patriarchy” fame Gadde, CEO Parag Agarwal

On Friday (October 28), Tesla CEO Elon Musk fired top executives of Twitter Inc. including CEO Parag Agrawal and its legal Head Vijaya Gadde, reported Reuters.

The development came immediately after Musk took over the ownership of the micro-blogging platform on October 28. Besides Agrawal and Gadde, the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ned Segal was also fired for misleading the Tesla CEO and the investors about fake accounts on Twitter.

Citing sources, Reuters reported that Parag Agrawal and Ned Segal were ‘escorted out’ of Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco after the $44-billion deal came to fruition. Elon Musk tweeted, “the bird is freed”.

Elon Musk had vowed to eliminate spam bots from the micro-blogging site, protect Twitter from becoming an eco chamber for hate and division and make algorithms open-sourced.

In April, it was reported that Gadde was all set to lose her $17 million-a-year job as Musk expressed no confidence in the top management of Twitter. The Tesla CEO had taken potshots at her for censoring the critical ‘Hunter Biden story.’

She also played a vital role in terminating ex-President Donald Trump’s account on Twitter. In an article, Politico had reported that Gadde broke down in tears after learning about the possibility of a change in ownership of the micro-blogging platform.

In 2018, Twitter founder ack Dorsey stoked a massive controversy after he was seen holding an anti-Brahmin placard, which read ‘Smash Brahminical Patriarchy.’ Dorsey was accompanied by Vijaya Gadde along with the poster’s designer, Thenmozhi Soundararajan.

Following outrage on social media, Vijaya Gadde ‘profusely’ apologised to people for hurting their statements.

Events leading up to the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk

On Thursday (October 27), Elon Musk visited Twitter headquarters, carrying a ceramic sink. He shared a video of his entry with the caption “Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in!”

“Let that sink in” is an English phrase used to ask someone to realize the importance of a statement, or event. Musk has also changed his Twitter bio to ‘Chief Twit’, and had added ‘Twitter HQ’ as the location. He had earlier shared that buying Twitter was the first step towards making X, the everything App.

In a note addressed to Twitter advertisers, he shared his motivation behind purchasing Twitter and his thoughts about advertisements on social media. Musk said that he bought Twitter to help humanity, not to make money, and not because it was easy.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” he wrote.

Musk had said that despite his goal of serving the humanity, content moderation on the platform will remain. “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences,” he said.

Did Donald Trump issue a statement after Elon Musk takeover of Twitter saying his account is set to be back Monday? Not quite

The $44 billion takeover of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk is finally complete. The richest person in the world and Tesla CEO became the owner of Twitter months after making the first bid. After the takeover on Thursday, according to reports, CEO Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal have been fired. Both executives have left the company’s San Francisco headquarters and will not be returning. Apart from Twitter’s Indian CEO Agarwal and Segal, legal policy, trust, and safety head Vijaya Gadde was also fired, the Washington Post reported.

After the takeover news, a statement by the former President of the United States of America Donald Trump started doing the rounds on Twitter. It was shared by several individuals celebrating that Donald Trump’s account was set to make a comeback by Monday.

The statement that was doing the rounds on Twitter congratulated Elon Musk on the purchase of Twitter and asserted that many people are saying that the change was necessary since the old management was “too concerned with the woke agenda”. Further, the statement said that his old account, which was permanently banned by Twitter, would be back on Monday. “Happy to be able to engage with an African-American owned business”, the statement ended.

However, it soon emerged that the statement was fake. News agency ANI that had tweeted the viral statement earlier published a twitter retracting their earlier update.

On the 26th of October, Elon Musk had entered Twitter headquarters, carrying a ceramic sink. He shared a video of his entry with the caption “Let that sink in”. Musk has also changed his Twitter bio to ‘Chief Twit’, and has added ‘Twitter HQ’ as the location. He had earlier shared that buying Twitter is the first step towards making X, the everything App. ‘Twit’ is slang for a stupid person.

In April 2022, Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter at $44 billion and said he would like to take the company private. The deal was approved by the board of directors at Twitter. However, later Musk said that Twitter was allegedly holding back information about the spam accounts on the platform. Twitter, on the other hand, denied the allegations.

“Next time, send the real Mr. Bean”, Zimbabwe President to Pakistan after Zimbabwe stuns Pakistan team at the World Cup

0

The “Mr. Bean controversy” between Zimbabwe and Pakistan is showing no signs of ending any time soon as the current President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa joined the fray. After Zimbabwe shocked Pakistan during their World Cup encounter in Perth during the ongoing World T20, the Zimbabwean President took to Twitter to advise Pakistan to send the real Mr. Bean the next time.

After praising the Zimbabwe team for the historic win and congratulating them, the President added, “Next time, send the real Mr. Bean”.

The “Mr. Bean controversy” blew up on Twitter ahead of the Pakistan-Zimbabwe contest as Zimbabwean fans urged their cricket team to take revenge on Pakistan for sending a fake Mr. Bean to Zimbabwe and making a fool out of them.

After Pakistan Cricket shared the schedule of their next match with Pakistan, Zimbabwean cricket fan Ngugi Chasura made the world aware of this controversy when he replied, “As Zimbabweans, we won’t forgive you…you once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean. we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you.”

On being asked about the details of his grievances, Ngugi Chasura tweeted, “They gave us Pak Bean instead of Mr. Bean on one of our local events called agriculture show.”

Pakistani Mr. Bean

Asif Mohammad is a Pakistani citizen who is an alleged look-alike of Rowan Atkinson. Asif Mohammad, supposedly known as Mr. Pak Bean, was called to Zimbabwe in 2016 for some programs where he was supposed to entertain the people. According to reports, the performance by Mr. Bean’s look-alike at the Harare International Conference Centre was a massive flop show, as there was little laughter in the ‘comedy show’. Despite being labelled as ‘Mr. Pak Bean’, he didn’t have any stand-alone act, he performed with other local artists and delivered a very disappointing performance.

According to Ngugi Chasura, this Mr. Paki Bean’s show was charged $10 per ticket and had no value for money as such. He, therefore, wished for the Pakistani cricket team to be defeated in the world T20 championship match against Zimbabwe so that the Pakistanis get a lesson.

Ahead of the contest, the match was dubbed the “Mr. Bean derby” as the news went viral on the internet. Zimbabwe’s President decided to join the fun and after the historic win for his team, decided to tweet a joke on the topic.

In the actual match, Zimbabwe scored 130 for 8 batting first before restricting Pakistan to 129 for 8, earning a hard-fought 1-run victory.

RTI reply reveals that the Delhi AAP government gave Rs 101 crores to the Delhi Waqf board in seven years

An RTI response has shown that the Delhi government under Arvind Kejriwal has granted the Delhi Waqf board more than Rs. 101 crores of public funds in the last 7 years. In just the past year, the AAP Government has granted the Waqf Board more than Rs. 62 crores.

RTI activist Ajay Bose inquired about the grant in aid received in the office of the Delhi Waqf Board since 2015. In the response received, it was found that the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal granted crores of rupees to the Delhi Waqf Board. In the financial year 2015-16, the Delhi government granted Rs. 1.25 crores to the Waqf Board. In the subsequent financial years 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 the number went on increasing to Rs. 1.37 crore, Rs. 5 crores, and Rs. 8.85 crores.

In the financial year 2019-20, the Delhi Waqf Board received Rs 22.72 crores from the Delhi government. In the financial year 2020-21 alone, Rs. 62.57 crores were given to the Delhi Waqf Board. The total of these grants comes to be more than 101 crores.

In September 2022, it had come to light that the Congress-led-UPA government gifted 123 government properties in Lutyens’ Delhi to Waqf in 2014.

As per a news report by Times Now, the decision was taken by the Cabinet and conveyed through a secret note, just days prior to the 2014 General election. The properties are located in prime locations such as Connaught Place, Ashoka Road, Mathura Road and other VVIP enclaves.

Times Now reported that it took just a phone call to identify the 123 government properties in favour of the Delhi Waqf Board. The news channel also shared the secret note, which is dated March 5, 2014, and signed by Additional Secretary JP Prakash.

World T20: Memes flood the internet as Zimbabwe pushes Pakistan toward World Cup exit with a 1-run win

Pakistan succumbed to their second successive loss at the ongoing ICC World T20 in Australia as they fell short by 1 run while chasing Zimbabwe’s total of 130 runs. Needing 3 runs to win off the last ball, Pakistan could only get a single sparking joyous celebrations in the Zimbabwe camp and reducing Pakistan to repair.

Having lost its opening encounter to India, Pakistan is in a perilous situation right now in the tournament and needs a string of results to go its way if they hope to progress to the next stage of the tournament. Most of these calculations rely on Pakistan winning their remaining 3 matches, which is not a guarantee as well given their current form.

While there was doom and gloom in the Pakistan camp after the result, the internet was full of jokes after this unexpected result as Zimbabwe pulled off one of the biggest shocks of this World Cup. There were memes about the result all over the place to mark the huge shock.

A Twitter user @vishcomical posted a famous photo of Rahul Gandhi saying ‘maza aaya’ with the caption, “Whole of India after watching Pak vs Zim today”.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag posted two pictures of Mr. Bean, that is, Rowan Atkinson and his Pakistani look-alike Asif Mohammad, also known as Mr. Paki Bean with a caption that read, “Pic 1 – Pakistan After 20 overs of Zimbabwe batting. Pic 2- Pakistan after 20 overs of their batting.”

It is notable that a Zimbabwean cricket fan wished that Zimbabwe beats Pakistan in this match just because Pakistan sent a fake Mr. Bean for a comedy show that charged $10 per ticket.

Another Twitter user posted a short video from the TV serial Ramayana with the caption, “Zimbabwe Beat Pakistan, Shoaib Akhtar to Babar Azam.” In this video, Ravana says to his brother Vibhishan, “Go. You are a blot on our clan. You have no place here.” Following this scene, Ravana kicks Vibhishan out of his palace.

Another Twitter user @memesbybadshah shared a meme that read, “I took that personally”, a reference to the Michael Jordan memes from ‘The Last Dance’ where Jordan shared how he elevated his game every time someone offended him. This was again about Zimbabwe and Mr. Paki Bean, and how Zimbabwe players raised their game to take revenge for that fraud on the people of Zimbabwe.

Twitter user Abhishek posted a meme that read, “Aur Padosiyon, aa gaya swad?”

There were several other memes and jokes online as Pakistan, one of the favourites leading into the tournament, hang on for dear life after this disastrous start.

Pakistan next faces the Netherlands on Sunday, October 30, as they look to finally kickstart their World Cup campaign. Zimbabwe faces Bangladesh in a crucial encounter earlier on the same day to keep up their momentum in the tournament.
