Public thrash two unidentified miscreants for chanting pro-Pakistani slogans during screening of The Kashmir Files at Telangana theatre, video viral

On Friday, March 18, a ruckus ensued at a movie theatre in Telangana’s Adilabad district after two persons reportedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans during the screening of The Kashmir Files. The act infuriated the audience, who thrashed the two after they raised anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans in the Nataraj theatre in Adilabad, Hyderabad, Telangana.

In a viral video of the incident, the audience in the auditorium can be seen exchanging heated arguments while the film The Kashmir Files plays in the background. Then someone in the audience starts beating up another viewer. Though the audio of the viral video is unclear, reports suggest that the incident occurred after two people began chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans while watching the film.

Following the incident, the cinema staff called the police to help control the situation, but the perpetrators managed to flee the scene. The police are attempting to determine the identities of the accused. They have also gathered evidence from CCTV footage, but nothing concrete has yet been discovered.

“We are verifying the matter. No formal complaint has been filed yet. It looks like few are intentionally trying to spoil the atmosphere and escalate tension,” local Police officials were quoted by Republic as saying.

According to Superintendent of Police D Uday Kumar, the two were inebriated when they raised pro-Pakistani slogans, causing the ruckus. However, he stated that the situation had been brought under control and the police are investigating the matter.

Screening of ‘The Kashmir Files’ stopped briefly at a theatre in Kolkata

In another incident reported from Kolkata, West Bengal, on Wednesday (March 16), the screening of the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ was stopped midway after a brawl broke out at the iconic Navina Cinema Hall in Tollygunge in Kolkata. However, there are several different versions of the story on the reasons for the same. While some reports say some Muslims protested against the movie, the theatre owners deny that and claim the incident was over two men talking loudly on the phone.

Sirf News had reported, “The staff of the Navina theatre said some Muslims protested inside the hall during the screening of The Kashmir Files. Police said they raised slogans saying the plot of the film was based on falsehood. This led to a quarrel and fisticuffs between the members of the two communities. The staff of the theatre stopped the film for 15 min.”

Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ is inspired by the true stories of Kashmiri Pandits. It takes viewers back to 1989, when conflict erupted in Kashmir due to rising Islamic Jihad, forcing the great majority of Hindus to flee the valley. The movie based on video interviews with first-generation Kashmiri Pandit victims of the Kashmir Genocide was released in India on March 11 and is open to watch in theatres.

According to estimates, roughly 100,000 of the valley’s total 140,000 Kashmiri Pandit inhabitants migrated between February and March 1990. More of them fled in the years that followed until just about 3,000 families remained in the valley by 2011.

‘No vacancy now’: Congress gives up hope on Rahul Gandhi becoming party president? Here is what Ghulam Nabi Azad said

Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior Congress leader and member of the G-23 dissent group, met Sonia Gandhi, the grand old party’s interim president, on Friday amid a discord within the party. The two senior leaders of the Congress met after members of the dissenting group convened for a series of meetings to discuss ways to reform the party. On March 14, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met, and the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded assembly elections was discussed.

During the meeting, which lasted for almost an hour, Azad is said to have proposed elections to the Congress Working Committee, making the Central Election Committee an elected body, and resurrecting the defunct Parliamentary Board to ensure collective decision-making.

After meeting Sonia Gandhi, Azad told reporters that the position of Congress president is “not vacant” and that the CWC, of which he is a member, has decided to hold elections for the AICC president in August-September.

“The meeting with Congress president was good. We keep meeting the Congress chief and she meets leaders regularly. A working committee meeting happened recently and suggestions were asked to strengthen the Congress party. I also had given some suggestions. So I have repeated those suggestions. Overall the discussion was on upcoming assembly polls. Suggestions to improve the party can’t be given publicly. There is no vacancy for a party president now. She offered her resignation but we rejected it. It was decided unanimously that she should continue. No one has asked her to step aside,” he added.

Notably, this was the second meeting between the Gandhi family and the G-23 rebel Congress leaders.

According to the statement of Azad, it becomes apparent now that the Congress party has lost hope that Rahul Gandhi would take over as the party president and Sonia Gandhi is now the effective president of the party, and not just the interim president.

Prior to this, on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi had met with veteran Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda and party president Sonia Gandhi spoke with Ghulam Nabi Azad twice over the phone. According to reports, the two leaders Rahul Gandhi and Hooda were said to have discussed reorganising the party, which has been a key demand of the G-23 rebel leaders in the Congress.

G-23 members meet at Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence, pitch for collective and inclusive leadership

On Wednesday, the G-23 leadership had met at the residence of Ghulam Nabi Azad over dinner on Wednesday to discuss the future strategy. During the meeting, the G-23 members reportedly discussed how the only way for the party to move forward was to adopt a model of collective and inclusive leadership and decision making at all levels.

The G-23 leaders also urged the Congress leadership to hold talks with like-minded forces in order to pave the way for a credible alternative in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The meeting was to be held at Kapil Sibal’s residence but the venue was shifted at the last moment. Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari, Sandeep Dikshit, and Shashi Tharoor were among the leaders who attended the meeting. Tharoor’s presence in the meeting came as a surprise as several Congress leaders including Mukul Wasnik or Shashi Tharoor had stopped attending G-23 meetings as some members continue to question the high command. 

Since the Assembly election results for five states were announced on March 10, Congress leadership has been under pressure. With all hope of revival gone, the party’s senior leaders are reiterating their demand for control of the party to be handed over to someone other than the Gandhis.

‘Sab ki Congress’ instead of ‘Ghar ki Congress’: G-23 member Kapil Sibal asks Gandhis to step aside

Interestingly, on Tuesday, March 15, a day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) had met, senior party leader Kapil Sibal, had fired salvos against Rahul Gandhi and the party’s high command. He questioned how Rahul Gandhi, who doesn’t hold any formal position in the party, went to Punjab and announced Charanjit Singh Channi’s name as the chief ministerial candidate. He also said that the Gandhis should step away from the leadership of the party.

Likewise, on Monday (March 14) during the CWC meeting, Sibal said it had been eight years since the party had lost the Lok Sabha elections. If the leadership still needed ‘Chintan shivir’ to find out what went wrong, they are living in cuckoo land. He further claimed that prominent party leaders in CWC genuinely feel that Congress would not survive without the Gandhis. He said in his personal view that he would want ‘sab ki Congress’ and not ‘Ghar ki Congress’. By ‘sab ki Congress’, he meant to bring old members who left and formed their parties together and fight against BJP.

Days after the Indian government evacuated 9 Bangladeshi nationals from war-torn Ukraine under its flagship ‘Operation Ganga’, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wrote to PM Narendra Modi thanking him for the support.

In a letter dated March 15, 2022, Hasina stated, “Excellency, I write to express my sincere thanks to you and your Government for extending support and assistance in rescuing and evacuating some Bangladeshi nationals along with the Indians who were stranded in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine.”

“The wholehearted cooperation that your Government has been extending in this regard is a testament to the unique and enduring relationship that our two countries have been enjoying over the years,” she continued.

The Bangladeshi Prime Minister recalled the State visit of Narendra Modi during the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence and the birth centenary of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

I am confident that both Bangladesh and India would continue to stand by each other all the time and work together to realize the collective aspirations of the peoples of the two countries,” she concluded.

147 foreign nationals from 18 countries evacuated under Operation Ganga

On March 15, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared the details of Operation Ganga which was launched to evacuate stranded Indian nationals from Ukraine amid the Russia-Ukraine war. “India evacuated 147 foreign nationals from 18 countries during its evacuation mission”, he said in the Rajya Sabha during the Budget Session of the Parliament.

Operation Ganga was launched on February 26 to evacuate nearly 20,000 Indian nationals who were stuck in Ukraine amid the conflict. Several special flights had been running from Poland, Romania, and Hungary to bring the students home.

“47 additional officials of the Ministry of External Affairs were dispatched. Along with our embassy personnel, these officials went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the success of Operation Ganga. Under the operation, 90 flights were operated – 14 of these were Indian Air Force planes. Most private airlines also participated,” S Jaishankar said on March 15.

Weeks after announcing that they would arm the west-backed Ukrainian regime, the Canadian government on Friday claimed that they have exhausted all inventory from the Canadian Armed Forces and are currently facing capacity issues after sending equipment to Ukraine.

Speaking to the media, Canadian Defence Minister Anita Anand revealed that the Trudeau government had depleted its weapons stocks in its hurry to assist Ukraine.

“We have exhausted inventory from the Canadian Armed Forces,” said Defence Minister Anita Anand, adding that there are capacity issues.

As clashes between Russia and Ukraine erupted, the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government had pledged the country’s support for the Ukraine regime. In the past few weeks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Justin Trudeau have met several times and the two leaders had discussed possible military cooperation to take on the Russian forces.  

Earlier this month, the Canadian government had said that they would “leave no stone unturned” while announcing that they would be sending military equipment to assist Ukraine. So far, Canada has dispatched 4,500 M72 rocket launchers and 7,500 hand grenades, 100 Carl-Gustaf M2 anti-tank launchers with 2,000 rounds.

In addition, the Canadian government has also dispatched two C-130J tactical aircraft, $25 million worth of helmets, body armour, gas masks, cameras, drones, mountains of field rations, and rare night vision gear.

The Ukrainian regime wanted more and had specifically requested anti-air weapons, but the Trudeau-led government is not inclined to provide sophisticated weaponry to Ukraine.

PM Narendra Modi is the world’s most popular leader, approval ratings highest among 13 global leaders: Details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the world’s most popular leader with an approval rating of 77%, according to a US-based global leader approval tracker – Morning Consult.

On March 18, Morning Consult Political Intelligence released its latest data highlighting that the approval rating of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the highest among the leaders from 13 countries.

Among the 13 leaders surveyed by the research firm, PM Modi tops the list with 77%, followed by Mexico’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador with 63 per cent. Italy’s Mario Draghi enjoys 54 per cent, while Japan’s Fumio Kishida has an approval rating of 45 per cent.

PM Modi also happens to have the lowest disapproval rating at 17%.

The data shows that the Indian Prime Minister remained the most popular global leader for most of the months from January 2020 to March 2022. The latest approval ratings are based on data collected from March 9-15, 2022.

In the last two years, PM Modi’s approval rating had touched a high of 84% on May 2, 2020. His approval rating was at the lowest on May 7, 2021, with 63% during the second wave of coronavirus in the country. However, more or less, PM Modi’s approval ratings have remained relatively high compared to other global leaders.

Canada’s Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden have got an approval rating of 42% and 41% respectively and are placed at sixth and seventh spot, respectively. British PM Boris Johnson ranked the lowest among the leaders surveyed with a 33% approval rating.

The approval ratings of US President Joe Biden, presently at 41%, has fallen drastically to their lowest during his presidency. Biden’s popularity began dropping last year due to a surge in Covid-19 deaths and the hasty withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. With the US-backed crisis in Ukraine, Biden is losing more support at home, and his approval ratings are only expected to come down.

According to Morning Consult, the survey reflects the real-time data based on a seven-day moving average of all adults in a given country, with a margin of error of between +/- 1-3 per cent. The average sample size in the US is 45,000, whereas it ranges from roughly 3,000-5,000 in other countries.

The surveys are weighted in each country by age, gender, region and, in certain countries, education breakdowns based on official government sources. For example, in India, the sample is representative of the literate population.

Rajasthan: Dalit man killed for his stylish moustache and lifestyle, earlier the accused had fought with him for making eye contact

A sensational incident has come to light from the Pali district of Rajasthan where a Covid health assistant working in a government hospital in Bali was killed with a knife in public. Jitendrapal Meghwal, a resident of Barwa village, was stabbed to death by two miscreants who allegedly could not tolerate his moustache and his good lifestyle after getting the govt job. The killers travelled 800 km on two wheeler and killed Meghwal on Tuesday 15th March 2022 in the afternoon.

The deceased Dalit youth has become famous on social media for his stylish moustache and the initial reports tell that he was killed by the murderers named Suraj Singh Rajpurohit and Ramesh Singh because Jitendrapal Meghwal had made direct eye contact with the culprits at the time of some minor dispute between them that took place on 23rd June 2020. Both the killers have been arrested by the police on Thursday 17th March 2022. The action was taken under the leadership of Bali ASP Brijesh Soni.

Both the accused killers have been taken to Pali district headquarters. The miscreants had stabbed Jitendrapal Meghwal seven times with a knife. After the incident, the family members of the deceased and villagers protested outside Bali Hospital demanding to catch the accused. The family members of the deceased refused to accept the dead body of the deceased and sat in a tent in front of the government hospital on the Bali-Sadadi road.

What was the dispute?

According to reports, the dispute began on June 23, 2020, when Jitendra Meghwal was sitting outside his house in Barwa village and he had an exchange of words with Suraj Singh Rajpurohit of the village who was passing by. Suraj Singh Rajpurohit, at that time, made some comments saying ‘how did you make eye contact with me.’ The matter between the two escalated to a physical fight. Jitendrapal Meghwal had lodged a case of assault against Suraj Singh Rajpurohit and his two accomplices. After the case was filed, the accused were angry with Jitendra.

Reportedly, the accused had asked Jitendrapal Meghwal several times to come to a resolution and withdraw the case but he did not agree. As if this was nothing, Jitendrapal Meghwal recently secured the govt job and his lifestyle changed suddenly. Due to his lifestyle and stylish mustache, Suraj Singh Rajpurohit became jealous of him. Jitendrapal Meghwal had a good height and physique and his look was much better than that of Suraj Singh Rajpurohit, and the well-groomed handlebar moustache added to his good looks. This fact created hatred in the mind of accused Suraj Singh Rajpurohit.

The murderers travelled 800 KM on bike to kill the victim

The murder accused, Suraj Singh Rajpurohit, is a resident of the deceased’s village, and works in Surat. He was so much jealous of the victim that he travelled 800 KM on a bike from Surat to Bali to kill the victim. On March 15, Suraj Singh came to Bali from Surat with his friend Ramesh Singh. On that day they made a recce of Meghwal’s schedule. After completing duty on Tuesday afternoon, Jitendrapal Meghwal left Bali with his friend. The accused chased Jitendrapal Meghwal on his bike. Stopping him midway, they stabbed him in his back and chest seven times. The attack was so intense that he died while being taken to Sumerpur. Before he died, Jitendrapal Meghwal had named Suraj Singh and his accomplice.

Was the dispute really that big?

Jitendrapal Meghwal came from a Dalit background whereas the accused killers belong to the upper caste. More than a mere exchange of words, making eye contact with the upper caste accused and having better looks than him and keeping a moustache turned out to be the main reasons behind the fatal attack on the Dalit youth. Added to these reasons, the deceased youth secured a job in the local health centre as opposed to the accused killer who had to relocate to Surat situated 800 KM away from the village.

Investigations

The accused fled from the spot after the incident. Following outrage by the Meghwal community over the murder, the police on Thursday arrested the two accused from Pachpadra. The family members said that the accused should be arrested soon and they should be given the death penalty. In this case, SP Rajan Dushyant had formed eight police teams that were on the lookout for the accused. Apart from this, the police had also sent two teams to Gujarat. Bali SHO Devendra Singh said that there was a pre-emptive fight between the two.

The accused Suraj Singh has an Instagram ID named King_of_godwad01. He likes to call himself the King of Godwad. There are a lot of videos of Punjabi and Haryanavi songs on his Instagram reel.

The grieved family

Om Prakash, the brother of the deceased, performed the last rites in tears. He cried and said that the accused Suraj Singh had attacked his brother in 2020 as well. He said, “My brother was beaten up over a small thing at that time. The villagers also know that he was jealous of my brother’s good personality. Give strict punishment to my brother’s killer as per the law.”

The family was protesting outside the hospital. The police and administration consoled them after which they agreed to a post mortem. Dr. Lalit Chaudhary, Umesh Gupta, and their team did the post-mortem. The body was then handed over to the family members. The administration has assured that their demands will be conveyed to the chief minister. The demands are to give a government job to the brother of the deceased, compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the victim’s family, and a permanent outpost in Barwa village.

Later the last rites of the victim were performed after police assured a through probe. A large number of people participated in the procession to the cremation ground.

The matter escalated to the state assembly

Bali MLA Pushpendra Singh Ranawat and Marwar Junction MLA Khushveer Singh Jojawar raised the issue of the murder of Jitendrapal Meghwal, a resident of Barwa village in the state assembly. He had called for early arrest of the accused, financial assistance to the victim’s family, and a government job to the family member.

Late on Thursday India time at around 9:30 PM, the most used navigation app, Google Maps crashed leaving all its users directionless. With most of the world using google maps to navigate, the problem with the app really threw the routine travel out of gear for people around the world.

The website Down Detector recorded a sharp spike in reports about Google Maps today evening as hundreds of thousands of people suddenly found themselves unable to access the map on the app.

Many of those that tried to access the Google Maps website were greeted by a message saying the ‘server encountered an error’, while several others were just greeted by a blank screen. The wait to see the map getting uploaded kept getting longer and longer as the app stayed down.

Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, which hosted the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was absolutely packed as Russia celebrated the anniversary of annexation of Crimea. Back in 2014, under Barack Obama’s watch, Putin had completed the annexation of the peninsula of Crimea on this day. The event that effectively started the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

In a mega event where several other prominent Russian speakers like Sergey Sobyanin (Mayor of Moscow), Sergey Aksyonov (Head of Republic of Crimea) and Artyom Zhoga (new head of Sparta battalion) spoke, the main attraction was always going to be Vladimir Putin.

Putin started his speech by quoting the preamble of Russian constitution which states, “on our land, united by a common destiny”. He used that line to try to drive home the point that Crimea, Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic are all essentially Russian. Claiming that Ukraine govt was indulged in genocide in Donetsk, he said, “Shelling and attacks were carried out against the Donbas. This is genocide. Stopping this genocide is the main goal of the special operation.”

Putin also said that they are determined to carry out the plans that they made, indicating that all the western sanctions aren’t going to deter him. He is definitely proceeding with his war in Ukraine to achieve the objectives he outlined. “We know what we should do know and how we should do it and we will implement all our plans,” he said. The stage for the event had signs saying “For a world without Nazism / For Russia”.

Putin hailed the ongoing operation in Ukraine, saying it is special operation to ‘de-Nazify’ the country. He also praised the Russian soldiers fighting the war, saying that the soldiers fighting in the “special military operation” in Ukraine have illustrated the unity of Russia.

During his speech, Putin brought up Fyodor Ushakov, a Russian commander who never lost a military battle, much like Bajirao. This is not the only time that Putin has gone back to history to energize support for Russia. He famously agreed with Alexander III’s opinion that Russia has only two allies, its Army and its Navy.

Putin’s speech was very short today, unlike his long speech when he announced the invasion of Ukraine. And the telecast of the speech was interrupted by a technical glitch, however later the full speech was broadcast by Russian state broadcaster. Later, a Kremlin spokesman said a server glitch had caused the interruption of the transmission.

The only thing clear from the speech was that Putin is not going to back down in the face of western sanctions. Fact is, he can not afford to back down in front of NATO and their allies.

Pakistan: 12 PTI workers and 2 legislators arrested for barging into Sindh House where dissidents had sought refuge

On Friday 18th March 2022, PTI (Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf) workers forcefully entered the Sindh House in Islamabad after protesting for hours outside against the dissident Members of National Assembly(MNAs) staying in the building.

Around two dozen dissident PTI MNAs had moved into the Sindh House to seek refuge from the government’s wrath for going against Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier this week.

The PTI workers climbed the wall and broke the door gates of the Sindh House to enter the premises. While protesting against the turncoats, these workers carried lotas in their hands. Lota is a derogatory term used for turncoats. The protestors also smashed the lotas with their feet. MNA Ataullah Niazi also joined these protests.

PPP leader Sharjeel Memon has called this attack a failure of the Islamabad police and the interior ministry. He said, “We consider the attack on Sindh House an attack on the Sindh province.” The police later took control of the situation.

Initially, the protests were peaceful but the situation soon turned violent. The interior minister Sheikh Rasheed issued orders to arrest the PTI workers involved in the protest. According to social media posts, 12 PTI workers were arrested by police for attacking Sindh House. Two PTI MNAs namely Attaullah Niazi and Faheem Khan were also arrested.

The voting on a no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan government will take place between March 26-30. The Speaker of the National Assembly is expected to call the session on March 22.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and some cabinet ministers had accused the opposition of indulging in horse-trading ahead of the crucial vote on the no-confidence resolution, disclosing that Sindh House in Islamabad had become a center for buying and purchasing members. After this, several MNAs from the ruling PTI had revealed that they were hiding at the Sindh House. The claims of the opposition having won over the members of the ruling party had thus appeared to be true.

Two days after the Karnataka HC upheld that hijab is not an essential practice in Islam, an Islamist organisation named Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TMTJ) issued death threats to the judges during an event conducted in Madurai on Thursday (March 17).

In a video shared by Indu Makkal Katchi, TMTJ leader Covai R. Rahmatullah announced that if judges get killed over the hijab case verdict, then, they will themselves be responsible for their death.

The Islamist insinuated that the Judiciary has sold itself to the BJP and that the court’s decision is invalid and illegal. Rahmatullah alleged that the Karnataka High Court pronounced the verdict on the behest of Amit Shah.

While casting aspersion on the intent of the High Court, the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath leader said that judges should be ashamed of themselves for their ‘biased’ judgment. He claimed that court verdicts must be based on the constitution and not on the personal beliefs of the judges.

A Twitter user named Vishwatma (@HLKodo) pointed out how young children were made to give death threats and raise violent slogans.

A longer version of the contentious video was posted on Youtube by a channel named ‘Online Dhava 24X7’. At about 17 minutes and 40 seconds into the video, Covai R. Rahmatullah is heard saying that while sadhus could roam naked in India, Muslim girls were being prevented from wearing modest clothing like the hijab.

A little later in the video, he warned, “If you attack on Muslims, we will get on the ground.” The TMTJ Islamist said, “We are not afraid of Modi, yogi and Amit shah. We are only afraid of Allah. Don’t make us lose patience. If we lose patience, then, you won’t exist.”

Hijab row and the verdict of the Karnataka High Court

Last month, some Muslim students from a PU College in Udupi filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court to allow them to attend classes wearing Hijab. They were denied entry into classes after the college management made it clear that the hijab is not part of the uniform. Since then, the ‘students’ launched protests while being dressed in burqas.

The Muslim students had started wearing hijab and burqa to their school, college in defiance of the uniform rules since December 2021 after coming in touch with the Campus Front of India (CFI), the student wing of the Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) in October 2021. The students had admitted being in consultation with the CFI.

Subsequently, the lawyers representing the Muslim students had cited Sharia in the secular court to make a point on hijab, claiming that it is an essential religious practice and is mandatory for Muslim women.

Karnataka HC upholds hijab ban in educational institutes

However, on Tuesday (March 15), the Karnataka High Court held that Hijab is not an essential practice in Islam and that uniform is a reasonable restriction on the Right to Religion. The court further stated in the order that no case is made out for invalidating the Government Order of February 5, 2022.

Following the verdict, liberals and Islamists took to Twitter to cast aspersions on the independence of the Judiciary.
