Hindustan Times tries to whitewash the Batla house encounter convicted terrorist Ariz Khan, quietly deletes post after being caught

The Indian Mujahideen terrorist Ariz Khan, who was awarded the death penalty for the murder of decorated Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma in connection with the sensational 2008 Batla House encounter case, has moved the Delhi High Court challenging his conviction and sentence. Going by its penchant, the Hindustan Times, has once again attempted to absolve the convicted terrorist from the heinous crime by prefixing the term ‘alleged’ before his name.

Hindustan Times Tweet, which has now been quietly deleted and reposted with a different caption

The mainstream media house while sharing the news on its Twitter handle captioned its Tweet as: “Alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorist Ariz Khan has challenged in the Delhi court his conviction over the killing of inspector Mohan Chand Sharma.

The typical pattern of various media houses, of the likes of Hindustan Times, to humanize the terrorists did not fail to catch the attention of various social media users. @BefittingFacts mocked the media house by saying: “@htTweets you people should try writing “allegedly convicted”

Veteran journalist and Senior Adviser to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Kanchan Gupta schooled Hindustan Times for its biased reportage. Sharing the Tweet by Hindustan Times, he wrote: “Once convicted, an accused is no longer an ‘alleged’ accused”.

It is pertinent to note here that following the outrage Hindustan Times has quietly deleted the Tweet and reposted the news with another caption. “On March 8 this year, Khan, 35, was found guilty of killing inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, and sentenced to death on March 15”, read Hindustan Times new Tweet posted a short while ago.

However, the media house has not posted any sort of apology for the evident mistake it made while posting its previous Tweet. Probably, Hindustan Times had premeditatedly attached the prefix only to whitewash the crime by the terrorist but craftily removed it after being called out. This prospect appears even more plausible considering Hindustan Times previous misconducts.

Here it becomes imperative to recollect how the media house had attempted to water down the Pulwama attack during its first anniversary, by humanizing the terrorist Adil Ahmed Dar. The Hindustan Times article written by habitual Pakistan lover Harinder Baweja wrote in detail about the suicide bomber’s apparent love for cricket. He sneakily added that the terrorist, who had called all Indians ‘cow-piss drinkers’, “always cheered for India”. Basically, through its report, HT had then almost implored its readers to sympathize with the family that has produced three terrorists thus far with the possibility of more joining terrorist ranks.

Clubhouse Data Leak claim: Experts rubbish Hacker’s claims, data contains only numbers that can be collected from anywhere

On July 23, a hacker group claimed that they have got access to over 3.8 billion phone numbers from Clubhouse servers. The claim posted on a hackers’ forum alleging the leak states that the list of numbers contains cellphone, fixed, private and professional numbers. The information about the claim was shared on Twitter by Jiten Jain, Director, Voyager Infosec.

The alleged hackers have claimed that they were able to evaluate the level of the network of each phone number in the world. ‘We can do a national and international ranking of each human and organisation’, they claimed, and said that they will sell the data of 3.8 billion phone numbers through a private auction on the 4th September 2021, on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Google.

Furthermore, the Hacker claims that the Clubhouse connects to users’ phonebooks in real and every time someone adds a new number, it gets synced to the Clubhouse servers. Though the claim is fairly true as it shows who has joined Clubhouse from the phonebook of a user, many fingers are pointing at the claims made by the Hacker.

Posts by the hacker.

Post marked as ‘Bad Sample’

The hackers’ forum has marked the post as Bad Sample, which possibly means that the sample provided by the Hacker has not much ‘useful’ information. When we scanned through the comments on the forum, we noticed that many users on that forum had called his data trash.

Left: Sample provided by the hacker. Right: Users on the forum calling it a trash database.

Experts’ views on the alleged leak

OpIndia contacted Sunny Nehra, Admin at Hacks And Security, to get his point of view over the alleged leak. He said, “I have seen this Hacker making mountainous claims before as well, but in the end, his alleged leaks are mostly fake. The list he is providing contains only phone numbers that can be extracted by any means. There are thousands of databases available for every country with only a list of phone numbers. Who knows if he had just compiled all the lists together and marked it as Clubhouse Leak! To be honest, such forums are mostly full of fakes.”

In a tweet, Nehra said, “News of Clubhouse data breach on #darknet is getting viral. The first thing the seller claims FREE sample, but it requires eight credits to unlock. Second, it’s just random Japan phone numbers. Third, threat actor is quite new on that forum, is least active & habitual to making such lame claims.”

He further added, “The threat actor seems to be scamming users of that forum on the name of #clubhouse #dateleak. Earlier someone made a similar claim, and the data was just scraped public data of clubhouse users. And this one is even more lame. Just providing a random japan numbers list.” Nehra said that such numbers could be generated using a simple script as well.

While talking to OpIndia, Rajshekhar Rajaharia, Internet Security Researcher, said, “Hacker is just selling Clubhouse mobile numbers that seems generated. There is no name, photo or any other details available. This list of phone numbers can be generated very easily. PII (Personal Identification Information) is not available for any number in the database. Data leak claim seems a fake.”

In a tweet, he said, “A #Hacker is allegedly selling a list of 3.8 billion phone numbers of #Clubhouse. Seems completely fake. There are only mobile numbers without names, photos. This list of phone numbers can be generated very easily. PII not available.”

He further added, “This seller has a bad past. Attracting buyers by showing lakhs telegram followers. Seems Fake. This is the same Telegram group that was selling the Fake #Whatsapp database of 470 mn users “Without Name & Photo”. Now they changed the group name from “Whatsapp Database Leak” to “ClubHouse Database Leak”. Now selling fake Clubhouse  numbers without name and photo.”

Co-Founder & CTO at cybercrime intelligence firm Hudson Rock said in a tweet, “The new Clubhouse database leak is pretty much b*llsh*t. It is just a list of phone numbers, without any additional information, they could have arrived from anywhere.”

The experts believe that the alleged leak is not real and such numbers can be generated via simple scripts. The users should not panic and wait for an official statement from ClubHouse.

Jail term for farting? UK ministers claim to have seen ‘credible evidence’ that passing gas can transmit Covid-19

Ministers in the United Kingdom claim to have seen evidence that Covid-19 could be transmitted by farting in public. One of them said they have read “credible-looking stuff on it” from data on other countries, reported The Telegraph.

According to the report, the source claimed that there was evidence of a “genomical-linked tracing connection between two individuals from a [lavatory] cubicle in Australia.” Apparently, there are also “well-documented cases of diseases spreading through waste pipes during lockdowns in Hong Kong when the U-bend had dried out.”

There is no confirmation of the same, however, and one Minister told The Telegraph that Covid-19 is a “respiratory disease, transmission and shedding is mostly taking place through the mouth and actually mainly from the nose.”

A spokesperson for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he was not aware of such claims. “We keep the latest scientific evidence review,” he said.

The claim was first made by an Australian researcher last year. He had said, “I think that what we should do in terms of social distancing and being safe is that … you don’t fart close to other people, and that you don’t fart with your bottom bare.”

Dr. Andy Tagg had claimed, “Well, SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in faeces and has been detected in an asymptomatic individual up to 17 days post-exposure.” He had added, “Perhaps SARS-CoV-2 can be spread through the power of parping – we need more evidence… So remember to wear appropriate PPE at all times and stay safe!”

SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, has been found in the faeces of infected patients. However, it is not confirmed whether transmission is possible through farting.

Former Florida pastor arrested for lewd battery and sexually molesting a minor girl for years, church distances itself from the accused: Details

A former pastor with the Chets Creek Church, a sprawling multi-campus Southern Baptist megachurch in Florida, was recently arrested on charges of sexual molestation, lewd battery and unlawful sexual activity with a young girl from the age of 12 until she turned 17.

As per local reports, the 38-year-old Jeffrey Bedwell served as a youth pastor at the Southside campus of Chets Creek Church. However, the Baptist Press, the official news service of the Southern Baptist Convention, named him as the campus pastor before his firing in a 2018 report.

Bedwell is charged with four counts—transmission of materials harmful to minors, unlawful sexual activity, lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor between the age of 12 and 16, and lewd and lascivious sexual battery on a minor between the age of 12 and 16. He is held at the Duval County jail with a bond of $500,000.

Reportedly, Bedwell’s alleged crimes began in 2013 and ended in 2018, when he was employed with the Chets Creek Church. Bedwell is accused of grooming a 12-year-old girl with text messages, photos and sexual conversations, during which he also allegedly asked her to send him inappropriate photos. When she turned 14, lewd messages escalated into videos. It is also alleged that the Christian pastor allegedly had two sexual encounters with the girl when she was 14.

The arrest report of the former pastor says he continued sexually molesting the victim at his home and inside his vehicle until she turned 17. He is expected to answer the charges against him in a court proceeding scheduled on July 29.

Chets Creek Church distances itself from Jeffrey Bedwell following his arrest

Following his arrest, the Chets Creek Church issued a statement, saying that it was shocked and devastated to learn of the charges made against a former member of its staff. The church tried to dissociate itself from the pastor, scrubbing clean most of its association with Bedwell from its website and social media accounts.

“Jeff Bedwell’s employment with the church was terminated more than two years ago for issues unrelated to the current charges now made against him,” Senior Pastor Spike Hogan, who represented the Southern Baptist Church, said in a statement to The Christian Post Tuesday.

Hogan further added that during his time at the church, Bedwell was “subjected to the same thorough vetting and background check” process that is done for all leaders.

“There was not a smidgen of inkling about his criminal antecedents,” said Hogan, adding that if they had learned of it, they would have reported it to the law enforcement immediately. The senior pastor said with his arrest, the church would cooperate with the law enforcement in any way possible in their investigation.

It is worth noting that Chets Creek Church refused to divulge information about Bedwell’s former role in the church. Hogan insisted that the church was taking steps to secure the safety of people, but did not elaborate on how it was being done.

“The safety of our members and families remains a top priority for us. The trust that they place in Chets Creek is precious and something that we work to earn and maintain every day. To that end, we are also constantly looking for ways to make our church even safer. With God’s help and guidance, we will do just that,” Hogan said.

Another Florida pastor arrested on charges of video voyeurism

In another case, a Florida Panhandle church youth director who was already facing video voyeurism charges after a hidden camera was found in a bathroom was arrested again. David Nims, 37, was arrested on Friday last week for eight more video voyeurism charges, the Pensacola News Journal reported.

It was the third such arrest on similar charges in less than two months for the youth director at Calvary Baptist Church in Pensacola. According to the reports, Nims fixed a camera in the toilet and the videos captured through it showed people using the restroom at the church.

Forbes attributes conflicting captions to its Tweets on Pfizer vaccines efficacy against Delta variant of Covid-19, gets called out by Netizens

Forbes recently published reports on the Delta variant which continues to be the dominant lineage in new COVID-19 cases around the world. The American magazine shared two reports which spoke on the efficacy of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines against the delta variant on its official Twitter handle on July 23. However, the conflicting captions of the two reports shared in a gap of less than half an hour, left Netizens baffled.

Forbes took to Twitter on July 23 (Friday) to share two reports it had published on the efficacy of the two vaccines on the Delta Variant. Forbes shared the first report on its official Twitter handle, at 11:11 pm on July 23, with the text that reads: “New study suggests Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine is far less effective at preventing infection and symptomatic illness with the delta variant”.

Tweet by Forbes

Minutes later, at 11:38 pm on July 23, it shared another report with the caption “New study finds Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccine are both effective against the Delta variant.

Second Tweet by Forbes

The stark contradiction in the two captions did not go unnoticed by the social media users, who accused media, the likes of the American magazine Forbes of carrying out a misinformation campaign. “Conflicting messaging has befuddled the common man”, opined a social media user, while sharing the contradictory reports by Forbes.

It is pertinent to note here that while Forbes has retained one of its Tweets, it seems to have deleted the other one which was posted almost at the same time yesterday. The two reports are, however, still available on the internet.

One of them was reported on July 21 and was headlined: “Study Finds Pfizer And AstraZeneca Vaccines Effective Against The Delta Variant — As Long As You Get Both Doses”.

The other one was reported on July 23 and headlined: “Pfizer Shot Just 39% Effective Against Delta Infection, But Largely Prevents Severe Illness, Israel Study Suggests”.

On reading both these reports, it becomes clear that the first report talks about a study of 19,000 people conducted by Public Health England, that found both doses of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines help protect against symptoms from both the alpha (B.1.1.7, also known as the U.K. variant) and delta variants at comparable rates.

The second one, meanwhile, specifies that the recent data from Israel’s health ministry suggests Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine is far less effective at preventing infection and symptomatic illness with the Delta variant than with previous strains of coronavirus. It also mentions that the Israeli findings are in contradiction with several other studies assessing the vaccine’s performance against the Delta variant.

After reading the reports, what one understands is that not the reports, the problem lied with the captions attributed to them while shared on the microblogging site.

‘WaPo editor admitted she could not confirm the numbers were associated with Pegasus,’ ‘BDS or Qatar behind controversy’: NSO CEO

The CEO of NSO Group, which owns spyware Pegasus, has said that the BDS Movement or Qatar could be behind the current ‘snoopgate’ controversy. CEO Shalev Hulio, in an interview with Israel Hayom, has stated that the list of phone numbers being circulated as ‘potential’ Pegasus targets is in no way associated with them.

Shalev Hulio said, “We don’t have and have never had any ties to the list that was published, and if it turns out that there was some client who exploited our system to track journalists or human rights workers, they’ll be cut off immediately. We’ve proven that in the past, including with some of our biggest customers, and we stopped working with them.” He said that he would welcome an investigation into the matter.

The NSO CEO said that he checked their servers after an acquaintance told him that ‘they’ had broken into NSO servers at Cyprus and accessed a list of targets.

Hulio stated, “In the meantime, we checked our servers, and we checked with the customers, and we didn’t find anything that had been cracked. But because it seemed strange, I asked the guy to bring us examples from the leaked list. We got them – a few phone numbers – and started to check them with our customers. Not a single one was a target for Pegasus. I realized it had nothing to do with us, and we moved on.”

Shalev Hulio said that most media organisations were convinced of the NSO version of events after they hired lawyers and sent out letters. He said, “The editor [in chief] of the Washington Post even wrote that she didn’t know where the list had come from or who had put the numbers on it, and that she had no confirmation that the numbers were associated with Pegasus or had even ever been targets or potential targets.”

‘BDS or Qatar behind controversy’: Shalev Hulio, NSO Group CEO

Shalev Hulio said that he suspected the BDS Movement or Qatar to be behind the attack. The BDS is a movement to impose boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions in order to end their ‘oppression’ of Palestine.

“It looks like someone decided to come after us. This whole story isn’t just incidental. The Israeli cyber sector is under attack, in general. There are so many cyber intelligence companies in the world, but everyone just focuses on the Israeli ones. Forming a consortium like this of journalists from all over the world and bringing Amnesty [International] into it – it looks like there’s a guiding hand behind it,” Hulio stated.

He said, “I believe that in the end, it will turn out to be Qatar, or the BDS movement, or both. In the end, it’s always the same entities. I don’t want to sound cynical, but there are people who don’t want ice cream to be imported here [to Israel] or for technology to be exported. The way I see it, it’s no coincident that the same week that people try to prevent Cellebrite’s IPO, an expose about [cyber firm] Candiru is published, and now us. It can’t be that this is all coincidental.”

NSO’s ‘four rules’ for selecting customers for Pegasus

Shalev Hulio said that when the company was founded, four rules were agreed on. “First, we would sell to governments only, and not companies or individuals. You can imagine how many people and companies tried to buy the technology, and we always said no. The second rule is that we don’t sell to every government, because not every government in the world should have these tools. Looking back 11 years after the company was founded, we have 45 customers, but 90 countries to whom we refused to sell.”

He continued, “The third rule is that we don’t activate the system, we just install it, instruct how to use it, and leave. The fourth rule is that we want to be under the Defense Ministry’s regulatory oversight. We have been under voluntary oversight since 2010, even though the law for defense and security oversight of cyber companies was written only in 2017. We haven’t ever made a deal that wasn’t under oversight.”

The NSO Group has constantly denied that the list is associated with Pegasus in any manner. They threatened to file defamation suit against The Wire for their reports on the matter. Amnesty International, one of the organisations that fed the information to the media, later claimed that they had never said the list was of NSO targets in an ambiguous statement.

Jharkhand: Three people arrested on suspicion of conspiring to topple the Hemant Soren government, Rs 2 lakh cash recovered

The Jharkhand Police arrested three people on suspicion that they were trying to destabilise the Hemant Soren-led JMM-Congress-RJD alliance government in Jharkhand.

According to the reports, the Jharkhand special branch arrested them from a hotel in Ranchi on Saturday. The arrested people have been identified as Abhishek Dubey, Amit Singh and Nivaran Prasad Mahato. The police had raided several big hotels in Ranchi, and the three suspected conspirators were arrested during these raids.

Abhishek Dubey and Amit Singh are government employees, while the third accused conspirator Niwaran Prasad Mahatois believed to be a liquor seller.

The police have recovered around Rs 2 lakh in cash from their hotel rooms. According to the Jharkhand police, the accused had allegedly contacted a few Congress MLAs and planned to topple the ruling JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government in Jharkhand. A case has been registered against the three under sections 419, 420, 124 (a), 120B, 34 of IPC and section 171 of the PR Act at the Kotwali police station.

Following the development, JMM alleged that BJP is trying to topple the Jharkhand govt. The JMM claimed that the BJP was trying to implement the Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka model in Jharkhand to topple the Hemant Soren government. The BJP is trying to apply the Karnataka and MP Model here in Jharkhand. But we won’t allow BJP to do the same,” JMM general secretary Supriya Bhattacharya said.

In the assembly elections held in 2019, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alliance won against the BJP by winning 47 seats in the 81-member House.

“Special attention is drawn to members of the Indian media travelling to Afghanistan to cover events through ground reports. As recent tragic events showed, it is essential that all Indian press-persons covering events on the ground establish contact with the Public Affairs & Security Wing of this Embassy for a personalized briefing including specific advice for the locale they are travelling to,” the advisory said while referring to the recent killing of photojournalist Danish Siddiqui in Afghanistan’s Spin Boldak.

Afghanistan in chaos as Taliban seeks to regain control following the US decision to continue troop withdrawal

The current chaos that has swept Afghanistan can be linked to the precipitous withdrawal of the US and NATO forces from the country. US President Joe Biden had reaffirmed his decision, stating that all the US forces will withdraw from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the twin-tower attacks. The withdrawal announcement has touched off a free-for-all crisis, plunging the country into n abyss of civil war, where different terror groups, including the Taliban, are vying to wrench the control of the country from the official Afghan government.

As a result, violence has erupted in many parts of the country as the Taliban seeks to establish its dominance and push back the government forces. As a part of its offensive, the Talibani terrorists are systematically attacking province after province, bringing large swathes of territories under their control.

Recently, the raging Afghanistan conflict took a turn for the worse as Taliban terrorists reportedly killed more than 100 civilians, seemingly without any reason. The Afghan Ministry of Interior(MoI) confirmed the massacre that took place in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. The Ministry also suspected Pakistani hand in the carnage that unfolded in Kandhar that resulted in the casualty of more than 100 civilians.

‘In India feminism ends where Islamism begins’: Watch Nitin Gupta ‘Rivaldo’ speak on ‘feminist’ hypocrisy on forced conversion

In the first episode, comedian Nitin Gupta ‘Rivaldo’ had unravelled the modus operandi of forceful conversions of minor girls and patterns being used to oppress and convert the Dalit community.

Now, in the first part of his second exclusive video for OpIndia, he touches upon topics like the historical and ongoing religious persecution and systematic violence against Hindus especially Hindu girls by radical Islamists and the penchant of the pseudo feminists and secularists, who choose to maintain a stoic silence over rampant incidents of forced conversions of Hindu girls, but outrage when people raise voices against the phenomenon.

Watch the video on YouTube.

Nitin Gupta’s part one of the second exclusive video for OpIndia on forced conversion of Hindu women, cities and temples

“For some weird reason, in India, feminism ends where Islamism begins”, says comedian Nitin Gupta ‘Rivaldo’ as he expresses his disbelief over how these so-called feminists have chosen to remain silent on issues like Nikah Halala, female genital mutilation and opposed the Triple Talaq Bill simply because the perpetrators belong to the Muslim community.

“The method adopted by the invaders have left behind them their aftermath. One aftermath is the bitterness between the Hindus and the Muslims which they have caused”, beginning his 25.43 mins video with a BR Ambedkar’s quote, Gupta gives an example of an incident of Grooming/Love Jihad that took place in Barmer, Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

On January 12, Opindia reported how an 18-year-old Hindu girl had alleged that one Gulzar had blackmailed her with her edited photo, forged false documents of marriage, forcefully converted her and forced her to eat cow meat and read namaz. Referring to this incident, Gupta tries to draw attention towards how these rabid Islamists have been following a systematic pattern to persecute Hindu girls.

Further, to highlight how Muslims have enslaved Hindus over centuries, Rivaldo gives examples of Muslim invaders like Sikandar Butshikan, Qutubuddin Aibak, Muhammad Ghauri, Alauddin Khilji and Md Shah Tuglaq. He asserts that the way these Islamic invaders persecuted Hindus, especially women, hundreds of thousands of whom were raped, assaulted and taken as sex slaves during the Muslim period, radical Islamists are trying to bring back these Islamic practices by turning Kashmir into an Islamic caliphate.

Gupta stresses how the sole aim of these radical Islamists is to simply convert as many as they can. “This is not love jihad, this is only Jihad”, Gupta deplores.

Taking a sarcastic jibe at Congress leader and India former PM Manmohan Singh, for asserting once, that all Muslims should have the first claim on India’s resources, Gupta says that these Islamists are with remarkable dexterity, exploiting these resources to expedite their comprehensive propaganda, PR and brainwashing system intended to convert as many non-Muslims as possible.

Giving examples of Bollywood movies like Shahrukh starter ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’, Gupta highlights how Bollywood is also endorsing Islamism and manifesting jihadist proclivities through its movies.

Sneering the penchant of the stereotypical Indian liberals, Rivaldo says that this coterie never outrages on any sort of conversion, be it the conversion of Hindu girls to Islam or the Hindu temples to mosques or for that matter the name of cities in the country, but the moment you reclaim or try to revert the phenomenon, this particular section of people starts outraging.

Interestingly, this cabal never speaks against those who forcefully convert or against the phenomena, but they will emphatically resent those talking of putting an end to this Islamist programme. Forced conversion has become the new secularism, opines Gupta.

The video ends with a quote by Swami Vivekananda in which the Hindu monk had highlighted the dangerous implications of sectarian beliefs of ‘some’ Muslims that had wrought havoc on the lives of disbelievers (Kuffirs): “Everything beyond that (in Islam) not only is bad, but must be destroyed forthwith; at a moment’s notice, every man or woman who does not exactly believe in that must be killed; everything that does not belong to this worship must be immediately broken; every book that teaches anything else must be burnt. From the Pacific to the Atlantic, for five hundred years blood ran all over the world. That is Mohammedanism!”

In the first and second part of the first exclusive video he shot for OpIndia, Nitin Gupta demystified the evil designs behind the forced conversion of minor Hindu girls and explained how kidnapping, conversion, sex slavery and rape are justified by the accused.

OpIndia has been actively covering the cases of Love Jihad, Grooming Jihad, kidnapping and forceful conversions of Hindu and Sikh girls. To read about these cases, click here
