UNHRC, which tried to help Prashant Bhushan keep illegal Rohingyas in India, could be compromised by China, UK Parliamentary Panel finds

The UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee is all set to release a report that says that China is on its way to breaking up multilateral organisations that were set up on shared values of peace and prosperity after World War 2. The report, set to release today on 17th June, says that China is attempting to influence organisations like WTO, WHO, Interpol, UNHCHR and others.

The UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee is made up of 11 MPs who are meant to scrutinise the foreign affairs of the UK. The report specifically says that if countries like the UK don’t act against the corrosive influence of China and Russia, then there is a real chance that democratic states will lose their multilateral organisations to authoritative states like China. Hinting at several institutions being used by China for their own means, the Parliamentary Panel said that authoritarian states like China have displayed no interest in upholding the shared values of these organisations and they are exerting their control over strategically important organisations to fundamentally redefine the values on which these organisations are based on.

The report further said that China was using economic leverage to get these organisations to back their positions and endorse their candidates. “China uses the organisations to shift policies away from the cooperations the organisations were created to promote”, the report says.

The report says that 6 organisations are being wrongly influenced by China. They named, The World Health Organisation, the World Trade Organisation, Interpol, the United Nations Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Human Rights Council, the International Criminal Court and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The report specifically mentioned WHO as being influenced by China and also the Human Rights organisations. It further said that if countries like the UK do not align with like-minded countries and vote against autocratic states (hinting at China) then these organisations run the risk of being taken over by countries like China and other private donors.

It is pertinent to note here that as the UK parliamentary panel very categorically hints at China influencing these organisations, it could explain the increased attempted interference of such organisations in India’s internal matters.

It must be remembered that in May 2021, the UNHRC rapporteur had attempted to interfere in a case where Prashant Bhushan, a serial PIL filer who finds himself on the wrong side of India’s interest on almost every occasion, had filed a case in the Supreme Court demanding the prevention of the deportation of Rohingya illegal migrants from Jammu and Kashmir.

At that time, the Jammu and Kashmir government had come forward and taken umbrage to the Supreme Court allowing the intervention of the UNHRC rapporteur saying that the court should be upholding domestic laws without allowing intervention of foreign entities, also, saying that the court cannot force the government to accept international conventions that have not been signed for a reason. After hearing this argument, a three-judge bench led by CJI SA Bobde refused to hear for now the rapporteur, represented in court by senior advocate CU Singh.

Interestingly, as we had reported earlier, the UNHRC had condemned India for deporting 5 Rohingyas while it maintained a stoic silence when Saudi Arabia was busy deporting hundreds of them.

Last year, the United States quit the UNHRC calling it a “cesspool of political bias”. Nikki Haley, the then US envoy to the UN called the institution “hypocritical” and that it “makes a mockery of human rights”.

Dhruv Rathee fans mark YouTuber Karolina Goswami for targeted harassment after she exposed his lies

On Wednesday, popular Youtube content creator Karolina Goswami, who runs the channel “India in Details”, released a video accusing pro-Aam Aadmi Party propagandist Dhruv Rathee and his supporters on Youtube of mentally harassing and abusing her for fact-checking one of his recent videos.

In her video, Karolina Goswami accused Dhruv Rathee and his fans of attacking and abusing her after she exposed the pro-AAP blogger’s misinformation against India in one of his recent videos on the World Happiness Report 2021.

“It has been so painful. I think I will never be able to forget this. We are being threatened, and it seems that we are deeply in trouble,” said Karolina Goswami, adding that she was making the video to ask Dhruv Rathee to take the necessary steps to stop this situation from getting worse.

As per Goswami, Dhruv Rathee had released a video on the World Happiness Report, 2021 recently. However, in that video, Rathee had displayed a poor understanding of the methodology of rankings and had gone on to propagate misinformation to his viewers. Based on the flawed understanding, Rathee had gone on to claim that Pakistan was much happier than India, based on the World Happiness Report 2021.

The World Happiness Report 2021 is released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations. It publishes World Happiness Rankings annually, and India was ranked 139 in the 2021 rankings. Last year, India was placed in 144th rank.

In response to Dhruv Rathee’s video, Goswami had released two videos clearly exposing the poor understanding of Dhruv Rathee on the topic and gave a point-to-point rebuttal to the misinformation pushed by the pro-AAP blogger against India.

In the video, Karolina Goswami explained how Rathee misled his viewers by misconstruing the methodology of the World Happiness Report to peddle blatant lies against India. Listing out each lie of Rathee in the video, Karolina Goswami had explained how the pro-AAP blogger had erred in understanding the ranking methodology of the report.

As per Rathee, the World Happiness Report ranks each country based on six indicators. However, the World Happiness Report clearly states that they do not construct their happiness measure in each country based on these six factors as indicated by Dhruv Rathee.

The report also clarifies that the index is calculated based on the individuals’ own assessment of their lives in their respective country, as indicated by the ‘canter lander’, where they give scores from 0-8.

Secondly, Dhruv Rathee displays his lack of understanding on the issue when he claims that the surveyors have used the ‘canter ladder’ methodology to rank the countries based on the ‘social support’ individual receivers. However, the report categorically indicates that they have not employed any such methodology to survey individuals on ‘social support’ criteria but instead decide the ranking based on binary data. However, Rathee says otherwise in his videos, and this was exposed by Karolina Goswami in her ‘fact-check’ videos.

Next, Dhruv Rathee puts out misinformation once again when he claims that Myanmar ranks on top under the ‘generosity’ criteria. However, it is wrong. In the 2021 World Happiness Report, it is not Myanmar but Indonesia that ranks highest in the ‘generosity’ criteria.

Continuing, Dhruv Rathee claims that Bulgaria is ranked as the worst country in terms of Perception of Corruption criteria. Once again, it is wrong as the report suggest that it is Croatia and not Bulgaria that is ranked as the worst country in the above criteria.

As Karolina Goswami fact-checked Dhruv Rathee and exposed the false claims he had put on his Youtube video explaining the World Happiness Report, perhaps the fans of the pro-AAP blogger took offence and began to hurl abuses at the Poland-based Indic content creator. The fans of Dhruv Rathee put out abusive comments on Goswami’s video, most of them have been deleted now, to attack and abuse her for exposing the pro-AAP blogger.

Here are some of the abusive comments Dhruv Rathee’s followers have put out on Karolina’s Youtube videos:

A fan of Dhruv Rathee also made the “Gaumutra” jibe at Karolina Goswami. It is worth mentioning that Islamic terrorists often make the tirade against Hindus as they carry out terror attacks against the community. Identifying Hindus as ‘Gaumutra drinkers’ is the standard insult used by rabid Islamists to dehumanise and humiliate the community.

Another fan of Dhruv Rathee attacked the Indic content creator saying she is taking money worth crores to make videos against the pro-AAP blogger. He also chanted, “Dhruv Rathee Zindabad”.

In response to the attacks, Karolina Goswami released another video asking Dhruv Rathee to stop carrying out such attacks and urged him to put his followers on the leash. The Youtuber also asked Dhruv Rathee to release another video to own up his mistakes and clarify the mistakes he had committed in his previous video explaining the World Happiness Report 2021.

Despite being repeatedly fact-checked by several members, Dhruv Rathee has neither deleted his Youtube video on World Happiness Report 2021, which is full of lies and contradictions nor has he apologised for the same.

It is notable here that pro-AAP blogger Dhruv Rathee is a serial fake news peddler.

Watch: Bauna Saddam, man who hired Abdul to make ‘tabeez’ reveals details, occult material obtained from Ghaziabad elderly man

Note: Later reports suggests the main accused’s name is Parvez Gujjar and not Parvesh Gujjar.

Bauna Saddam, a man who had hired the services of occultist Abdul Saddam Saifi, for preparing ‘tabeez’ (occult amulet) has admitted on video of doing so.

In the video, one can hear Bauna Saddam, the man who had hired Abdul’s occult services, admitting that since his son was not drinking milk, he reached out to Abdul Samad Saifi to help him out. Saddam said that Abdul asked him to gather 3 eggs, 3 laddoos, 1 cigarette packet and 1 agarbatti packet and feed it to a dog.

Saddam’s brother in law is one Intezar, who also works as Abdul’s agent. Intezar had introduced Abdul to Saddam as well as Parvesh Gujjar, one of the accused in assault case. From the conversation it appears Saddam also knew Parvesh Gujjar. Parvesh had also hired Abdul’s occult services. However, he suspected that the occult had misfired.

On 5th June, Abdul had arrived with Intezar to Saddam’s place and Saddam and Abdul went to Parvesh Gujjar’s place. Parvesh called up Aadil, one of the accused who beat up Abdul, who arrived with 3-4 people. Parvesh confronted Abdul who admitted that he prepared the tabeez that backfired for Parvesh on instructions of Intezar. Parvesh then called up Intezar who arrived on the spot.

When Intezar arrived, the group started fighting wherein Abdul’s beard was chopped off by one Kallu. Some 10-12 people were present there named Anas, Awaiz, Aadil, Babu Bihari amongst others.

Essentially, Parvesh, who had hired Abdul’s services was upset that Abdul prepared a tabeez which gave adverse effect on Intezar’s instructions. Hence, Parvesh and his men beat up Abdul.

Saddam is currently under arrest and is being investigated. He said he was present when the incident took place. Saddam’s brother in law Intezar was the one who introduced Abdul to Parvesh. Intezar used to work as Abdul’s agent.

In another video, the occult material retrieved from Abdul can be seen.

Earlier this week, so-called fact-checker Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair shared a muted video of Abdul being thrashed by a mob. In subsequent video, Zubair claimed that Abdul was beaten up and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and tried to give it a communal angle by terming it hate crime. The same was shared far and wide with many influential people and media houses running along with same claim.

However, Ghaziabad Police later revealed how this was an internal freud and not a hate crime as portrayed by the likes of Mohammed Zubair, Rana Ayyub and others. Uttar Pradesh Police has now filed an FIR against them for wilfully spreading fake news to stoke communal tension. Despite being debunked, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, too, shared the fake news. A complaint has been registered against him in this regard.

A video released earlier today shows the conversation Abdul had with some men just few minutes before he was thrashed. In it, he admitted to having made a ‘tabeez’. He had earlier claimed that he was taken away to far spot by unknown people in a rickshaw. But from the new information that has come to light, it appears that may not have been the case.

Ghaziabad: Samajwadi leader Umed Idris booked for giving false communal twist to assault incident, making victim lie about case

Note: Later reports suggests the main accused’s name is Parvez Gujjar and not Parvesh Gujjar.

As the Ghaziabad incident continues to expose a nefarious agenda to spread communal hatred based on false allegations, new information has come to light.

Local Samajwadi Party leader, Umed Pahalwan Idris, who appeared in a Facebook Live video alongside Ghaziabad assault victim Abdul Samad has been booked by Ghaziabad police. Police have accused Idrisi of giving the incident of personal animosity a “communal colour”.

An FIR under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity), 295A (act intended to outrage religious feelings), 504 (intentional insult), 505 (mischief) and 120B (conspiracy), and section 67 of the IT Act has been filed against the SP leader.

SP leader Umed Idris reportedly made the victim of assault tell that he was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram, giving the incident of petty crime a communal colour.

The FIR registered at Loni Border police station states, “The accused made an unnecessary video with the complainant and, without verifying the facts of the case, carried out religious discussions on his Facebook, which spread animosity in the community.”

“The accused attempted to give the incident a communal colour and disturb societal balance. This act hurt religious sentiments. The particular act presented a threat to law and order and tried to divide between Hindus and Muslim community,” it added.

Here’s what happened:

As per reports, one Abdul Samad was thrashed by a Parvesh, Aarif, Adil, Mushahid, Kallu and Poli on June 05. Samad, a local amulet seller, had sold one to the prime accused which allegedly had ‘adverse effects’ on his family.

As per SSP Amit Pathak’s statement, Parvesh called Samad at his residence to seek revenge and thrashed him black and blue with the help of his friends. An FIR was filed by the victim on June 07 stating that he was kidnapped and beaten by people unknown. However, the police informed that the perpetrators Parvesh, Adil and Kallu during the interrogation had confessed that they knew Samad and had gathered to take revenge.

On June 14, Alt News co-founder Muhammed Zubair uploaded a muted video (which now stands deleted) of the incident where the victim was being assaulted and Tweeted that the man was threatened at gunpoint, beaten, assaulted and the perpetrators forcefully chopped off his beard.

Deleted Tweet of Muhammed Zubair

Soon after, Zubair posted another video (also deleted) which was a Facebook live done by SP leader Idrisi with photos of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav hanging on the wall. Samad in this video showed the marks of assault and claimed that he was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Deleted Tweet of Muhammed Zubair

These two videos activated the entire left lobby giving the incident a ‘communal color’ after almost 10 days of the assault. Publications like The Wire, TheQuint, Indian Express published reports on the basis of the victim’s statement in the Facebook live video, thereby, defaming the Hindu religious slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram.’

The video and the narrative soon went viral on social media, posing a threat to the law and order in the state.

On the very same day, Ghaziabad police uploaded a video apprising of the case giving relevant details and kept the social media users updated with the development thereon.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Uttar Pradesh government filed an FIR on June 15 against Twitter for failing to flag the video with unverified claims as ‘manipulative’ and lack of action.

Alt News co-founder Zubair, Rana Ayyub, The Wire, Salman Nizami, Maksoor Usmani, Sama Mohammad and Saba Naqvi have also been booked for spreading misleading and fake news.

In the FIR filed against the aforementioned, the police stated, “The tweets by the accused had been broadcast on a large scale. The statements made through social media by the accused hint at a criminal conspiracy. The accused and other people tried to create animosity between Hindus and Muslims.”

“The tweets were an attempt to destroy communal harmony. These false tweets had been retweeted by thousands of people. The accused include journalists and political persons who did not make an attempt to establish the truth in the case and spread false news,” read the FIR.

Muhammed Zubair and others delete video

Following the FIR, Muhammed Zubair on June 15 took down the muted video of the incident where he claimed the victim was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ To follow the suit were Saba Naqvi and Rana Ayyub who declared they will wait for the police investigations to complete before commenting on the case.

UP police rubbishes claims of communal angle

SSP Amit Pathak in a press conference held on June 16 informed that some social media handles and media publications turned the entire incident of assault on an old man into a hate crime and deliberately tried to give it a communal colour.

The SSP stated that while the accused and the victim were known to each other, false claims on social media had fanned a communal narrative, hinting that it was a crime committed solely for communal hatred.

Stern about the fact that nobody has the liberty to publish unverified and misleading information about an ongoing case, Pathak informed that an FIR has been filed against the social media platform Twitter, Twitter India and seven individuals.

“We are still watchful and if anyone is found furthering the narrative and deliberately publishes hateful content to disturb the communal harmony, strict action will be taken,” informed Pathak. He added that the police is identifying other publishers too, who had fanned the false narrative trying to give the incident a communal colour.

Victim’s initial complaint found factually wrong

The police informed that the FIR filed on June 07 mentioned that the accused and location both were unknown to the victim, however, the investigations have revealed otherwise.

The sequence mentioned in the FIR also does not match up as the FIR stated that Samad was taken in a rickshaw to an unknown location near a forest. However, during the investigation, the accused revealed that Samad was called by the prime accused Parvesh to his home where the other members (also known to the victim) gathered to take revenge.

Parvesh’ family members and other witnesses in the case have also confirmed that the victim Samad was well known to the family and he had been visiting them for the last three months. The police have arrested two more accused in the assault case named Intezar and Saddam. They have confirmed that they were present during the assault.

Basically, so far, the police investigation has revealed that in the initial FIR, a petty crime due to the personal animosity of two parties was given a different colour. As per reports, the victim Samad was reluctant to file the FIR and has been uncooperative in the police investigation.

The claim of ‘forced to chant Jai Shri Ram’ was first found in the SP leader’s video. After which the police had filed an FIR. But the victim had made no mention of the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant in the initial FIR too.

Ghaziabad fake hate crime case: Unmuted video of elderly man seconds before he was beaten up released. Watch

Note: Later reports suggests the main accused’s name is Parvez Gujjar and not Parvesh Gujjar.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s media advisor Shalabh Mani Tripathi released unmuted video of the elderly Muslim man, Abdul Samad Saifi just few seconds before he was beaten up in the viral video.

In the video, Abdul can be heard admitting that one Intezar sent some people to him to make the ‘tabeez’ (occult amulet) and put them in his spell as he had some work from them.

It was after this, he was allegedly beaten up. A muted video of the same had gone viral which was shared by Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair and various others. Zubair claimed that Abdul was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as he was beaten up and tried to give the incident a communal angle. The accused name in the assault case are Parvesh Gujjar, Kallu, Poli, Aarif, Aadil and Mushahid as revealed by Ghaziabad Police.

He later shared another video of Abdul along with Samajwadi Party leader Umed Pehelwan where Abdul claimed he was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by mob and was beaten up. He had never mentioned the said ‘tabeez’ and subsequent reports by various propaganda outlets like The Wire have claimed that his family members deny any ‘tabeez’ claims.

However, despite the family claims, one can see Abdul admitting to having made the ‘tabeez’.

Uttar Pradesh Police has filed FIR against Mohammed Zubair, The Wire, Saba Naqvi, Rana Ayyub, Twitter India and others for wilfully spreading fake news to stoke communal tension.

This is not the first time Islamist apologists and so-called liberals have tried to portray a random petty crime as hate crime. Here is a list of 20 such recent incidents where claims that a person from Muslim community was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram‘ have turned out to be fake. This is an indicative list and real figure would be much higher.

Twitter India MD told Delhi Police he does not know directors and owner of his company, details of his boss: Feigning ignorance or more than meets the eye?

An India Today report suggests that Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari was interrogated by Delhi Police over BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra’s ‘Congress toolkit’ Tweet being tagged as “manipulated media”. A team of the Delhi Police had travelled to Bengaluru on May 31 to question Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari in connection with the case, the report said citing sources.

Reporting a similar update, ANI on Thursday Tweeted, “A senior-level team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell had gone to Bengaluru, Karnataka on May 31 to interrogate Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari regarding ‘Congress toolkit case’.”

Twitter India has been dodging the orders and legal responses sought by the government of India in certain issues lately by passing the buck on Twitter US- the parent company.

Government sources suggest that the Delhi Police’s probe in this matter is not only establishing a clearer picture of Twitter India’s links with the US-based parent company but also unearthing a “complex web of corporate veil to mislead Indian law-enforcing entities”.

Twitter MD not aware of other directors

Maheshwari reportedly told the Delhi Police that despite being the senior-most employee of Twitter India’s subsidiary Twitter Communications India Private Limited, he was not aware of the company’s directors.

Maheshwari, who is also known externally as the Managing Director (MD) of the company and claims so on his Twitter profile, said he derived his information about Twitter India’s hierarchical structure from the records maintained by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Screenshot of Manish Maheshwari’s Twitter Profile

The Delhi Police is now probing this shocking claim by the India Twitter head that, despite being the company’s most senior officer in the country, he has little information about his own team.

Maheshwari reports to Singapore based employee

During the interrogation, Maheshwari was also asked if he reports to someone else who is also an employee of TCIPL.

To this Maheshwari informed the Delhi Police that he reports to a Singapore-based Yu Sasamoto. Yu Sasamoto was appointed Vice President of Twitter for Japan, South Korea and Asia Pacific (JAPAC) on May 01. Sasamoto had succeded Maya Hari, who was elevated to a global role within the organisation as vice president of Global Strategy and Operations (GSO).

Guessing which office his “boss” is located at, Maheshwari old the Delhi Police team that “his boss [Sasamoto] is not an employee of TCIPL and he does not know the exact name of the legal entity in which his boss is employed, but his best guess was Twitter Asia-Pacific”.

Delhi Police, however, clarified, “Since Maheshwari accepted that he reports to an employee of Twitter Asia Pacific, his contention that he is not related to Twitter Inc is obviously not true.” According to reports, Yu Sasamoto works from Twitter’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore,

Questions on his designation and other employees

The Delhi Police also quizzed Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari about other employees of TCIPL.

Police also probed why Maheshari uses an email ID ending with @twitter and not @tcipl since he claims to not be an employee of Twitter Inc.

When asked why he refers to himself as the MD of Twitter India despite not being an employee of Twitter Inc, sources say he responded by saying that it is his ‘market-facing’ designation among advertisers. He also informed that this is as per common market practice in Indian business circles.

The government is also said to be investigating how Maheshwari claims that “it is common business practice to call the most senior person in-charge of a business entity in India to be referred to as the Managing Director (MD)”.

Maheshwari unsure over who owns TCIPL

According to sources, Maheshwari was unable to provide concrete and satisfactory answers over Twitter Inc’s link with its subsidiary TCIPL. He further claimed that it “could” be a subsidiary of Twitter Asia-Pacific or some other legal entity.

However, Maheshwari revealed that one of the others directors of TCIPL is one Mr Winston Foo, who is an employee of Twitter Asia Pacific in Singapore.

“May have received complaints”

Maheshwari was also asked if he could make a categoric statement that none of the persons engaged/employed by TCIPL received a single complaint from the public regarding questionable content posted on Twitter.

Giving a loose answer to the aforementioned questioned, Maheshwari said while he could not say for sure, but some employees “may” have received content-related complaints. They “may” have directed these complaints either to the website, help.Twitter.com, or the report section in the Twitter App, informed Maheshwari.

The Delhi Police is treating Maheshwari’s statement as an admission that TCIPL employees do get and accept complaints pertaining to content on Twitter and forward the same to Twitter Inc, thus admitting their link with the US-based parent company.

Who owns the shares?

Interestingly, the Delhi Police team has also found out that out of a total of 10,000 shares of TCIPL, 9,999 are owned by Twitter International Company (TIC) while Twitter Netherlands owns the remaining one share.

A senior government official said, “The final inference is that TCIPL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Twitter International and that the “entire façade of being different entities is to make a mockery of Indian law”.

Delhi police and Twitter India

Twitter had flagged a Tweet made by BJP leader Sambit Patra curtailing content that is under investigation. Delhi police had then served the social media giant a notice to declare the ‘information’ they might possess which prompted them to flag the content as ‘manipulative’ as it might aid the ongoing investigation.

However, Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari had evaded the investigation claiming he was just a sales head.

Strategy to evade Indian law?

Given that Twitter India has consistently refused to comply with the new IT rules of India, the evasive replies give by the Twitter MD shows that the company has decided evading the Indian law is the best strategy to combat the Modi government. It is not possible that a person with the designation of Managing Director in a company will not know other employees and the directors of the company. It is not possible that he won’t know who owns his company. He is clearly refusing to give clear answers to police.

Twitter India has been trying to establish that it has no links with Twitter Inc, claiming itself to be just a marketing office. They had made that claim to its response to NCPCR on the probe on the availability of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on Twitter. Twitter India wants to claim they are not responsible for the content published on the platform, saying only Twitter Inc is responsible for the same. With this claim, they are trying to avoid complying with the new IT Rules completely. They are hoping that if they can prove that they have no links with Twitter Inc, they won’t have to follow the due diligence and appoint the compliance and grievance redressal officers as required under the rules.

However, both Delhi Police and NCPCR have found that among the 10,000 shares of Twitter India, 9,999 of them are owned by Twitter Inc. Moreover, among the three director of Twitter India, two are employees of Twitter Inc.

As a result of not complying with the IT Rules, Twitter has already lost the intermediary status in India, which means it will now be held responsible for content published on the platform. And to avoid prosecution arising out of this change of status, Twitter India is trying to say it is not related Twitter Inc, and only Twitter Inc is responsible for the content. This will mean that the Indian govt will not be able to enforce the IT Rules on the company, as it will not be possible take action against a company and the officials who are not based in India.

While Twitter has a policy of removing anti-vaccine tweets, its refusal to remove such posts by Congress leaders shows its bias in India

Earlier yesterday, Congress leader Gaurav Pandhi promoted vaccine hesitancy on his Twitter page by sharing an RTI reply to applicant Vikas that said that Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN contains newborn calf serum obtained after slaughtering 20-days-old calves. Pandhi’s tweet as part of the ongoing efforts of the Congress party to spread propaganda against Indian made Covid-19 vaccines, especially COVAXIN developed by Bharat Biotech India.

“In an RTI response, the Modi Govt has admitted that COVAXIN consists Newborn Calf Serum …..which is a portion of clotted blood obtained from less than 20 days young cow-calves, after slaughtering them. THIS IS HEINOUS! This information should have been made public before,” Pandhi tweeted along with sharing a picture of RTI response.

Pandhi, who is the Digital Communications & Social Media National Coordinator of Congress, misrepresented the facts to attack the BJP government at the centre, and alleged that the BJP had kept the people of the country in dark about the use of calf serum in the development of Covaxin. Cow being a sacred animal to millions of Hindus in India, Pandhi tried to use this sentiment to accuse the BJP of betraying the faith and belief of people by not informing them about the ingredients that were used in manufacturing Covaxin.

Firstly, it is a bit rich coming from a Congress leader to be concerned about cows and feelings of pious Hindus in the country. For years now, Congress leaders and supporters have made gau-mutra jibes with abandon to insult pious Hindus and ridicule their beliefs and faith. Congress leaders have also railed against beef ban in the country, not to forget the incident when a cow was slaughtered by Kerala Congress members just to oppose the Centre’s ban on the sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter.

It is, therefore, tragically ironic that the party which had consistently scorned Hindus, treated their sensitivities with disdain, is suddenly purporting itself to be a party that is championing their cause. Hindus have suffered enough to realise the perils of taking the claims made by Congress leaders on face value.

Congress leader Gaurav Pandhi’s promotes vaccine hesitancy with his misleading tweets

As it turned out, Pandhi was lying through his teeth when he claimed that the Bharat Biotech developed Covaxin contains calf serum. Pandhi’s lies were conclusively demolished in a rebuttal issued by the Government of India. In a press release, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare refuted the claims that Covaxin has newborn calf serum.

The press release said that the serum was used only for the growth of vero cells. It states, “There have been some social media posts regarding composition of the COVAXIN vaccine where it has been suggested that COVAXIN vaccine contains the newborn calf serum. Facts have been twisted and misrepresented in these posts.”

The statement said that it is a common process to use newborn calf serum for the development of a vaccine. It is used in a standard procedure to produce cells to culture viruses and other pathogens to develop vaccines. Additionally, the serum is later washed away and is not a part of the vaccine as alleged by Pandhi in his tweets. In addition to this, Pandhi’s claim that calves are slaughtered for their serum is also wrong as scientists have asserted that killing a calf is not necessary to extract its serum.

Furthermore, neither Bharat Biotech nor the Government of India ever hid the information on the use of serum in the manufacturing process. But Pandhi nevertheless continued peddling propaganda against Covaxin, hoping that it would help him in projecting the BJP as untrustworthy and wean Hindus away from them. However, in doing so, he ended up promoting vaccine hesitancy and spawning apprehensions in the minds of people.

Even though a rebuttal was issued by the Indian government, social media behemoth Twitter, which has fashioned itself as some sort of a crusader fighter misinformation and vaccine hesitancy on its platform, did nothing to pull down Pandhi’s misleading tweets or label his posts as ‘manipulated content’. This laissez-faire policy of letting posts that promote vaccine hesitancy by the Congress party on its platform is in stark contrast to its otherwise stringent practice of not allowing its platform to be used for anti-vaccine posts.

Twitter’s duplicity, suspends Naomi Wolf for anti-vaccine posts while allows Congress leaders in India to do the same

Recently, Twitter displayed unmatched alacrity to suppress misinformation regarding vaccines. The microblogging website suspended American author Naomi Wolf’s account after she was found indulging in spreading misinformation about vaccines.

In a shocking incident, Twitter had even suspended the account of Luigi Warren, the scientist behind the development of mRNA technology used by the Moderna vaccine. His tweet saying that vaccinated people may shed a tiny amount of spike protein was deleted by Twitter, and his account was suspended for a day. In this incident, the Twitter had claimed that it knows more about the vaccine than the scientist who had developed the vaccine technology himself.

In March this year, Twitter had announced that people who repeatedly tweet harmful misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines will be suspended, and after five such offences, the accounts will be permanently banned.

However, such actions were missing in the case of Congress leader Gaurav Pandhi, whose posts were replete with lies and misinformation about Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

In addition to this, Twitter has also been lax against senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, who has a history of raising aspersions on the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and posting controversial content discouraging the use of masks to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Bhushan was let off the hook with just a 7 days ban when he had posted an article on his Twitter account questioning the benefits of wearing a mask.

The seven-day ban did nothing to change Bhushan’s views on masks and after his account was restored he brazened out his stand, saying that he had shared a well-referenced article on the pros and cons of wearing masks during COVID. Bhushan has also been caught sharing fake news umpteen times. However, each time he is reminded that his post is fake, he issues an apology and deletes the concerned post, only to repeat such behaviour later. But the Twitter continues to humour him, allowing him to use the platform to raise contentious views on vaccines and masks that can have potentially dangerous ramifications.

Twitter’s conspicuous favouritism for the Congress party and its penchant of meddling in India’s politics

Twitter’s lethargic response to fake news and misinformation peddled by Congress leaders and their sympathisers is against the grain of the social media behemoth which chomps at the bit of assuming the role of a content regulator and dishing out labels of ‘manipulated content’ based on facile ‘fact-checks’ done by dubious organisations.

Last month, Twitter was mired in a controversy when it presumptuously handed out the ‘manipulated media’ label to BJP leaders who shared a document and called it a Congress toolkit designed to exploit the pandemic to malign the Modi government and revive its moribund political fortunes. The label was attached to the tweets of the BJP leader shortly after propaganda website Alt News came up with a ludicrous defence to give a clean chit to the Congress party and declare the toolkit to be fake.

The Congress party had asked Twitter to carry out a detailed investigation on the matter and permanently suspend the Twitter accounts of BJP leaders. Within a day, Twitter promptly obliged to Congress party’s request and marked the tweet carrying the photo of the Congress toolkit as ‘manipulated media’. When police contacted Twitter to ask on what basis it labelled the tweets posted by BJP leaders as fake, it refused to share the ‘evidence’.

As such, if Twitter’s past antecedents are to be considered, it has always displayed fervid zeal in marking the tweets put out by BJP leaders as ‘manipulated media’, even when those tweets were meant to debunk patently misleading information shared by the Congress leaders, including their former president Rahul Gandhi.

In December 2020, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya shared a video debunking the lies peddled by the Congress leaders. Malviya shared a video in response to an image shared by Rahul Gandhi wherein he insinuated that the police was beating up an old farmer. But instead of marking Rahul Gandhi’s tweet as ‘manipulated media’, Twitter marked Amit Malviya’s tweet as misleading content.

Later in March 2021, Congress IT Cell head Rohan Gupta shared a cropped video from PM Modi’s rally in Assam on Twitter. PM Modi in the video had called out Congress formula of keeping the poor poor and exploiting them for electoral gains. However, the snippet shared by Gupta was carefully cropped to give an impression that PM Modi was advocating the exploitation of the poor for votes.

Gupta conveniently edited out the part in which PM Modi elaborated on how it was the Congress modus operandi of preying on the poor and making false promises to them to win their votes. However, Twitter did not bother to mark Gupta’s tweet as ‘manipulated media’.

After antagonising ruling BJP, Twitter aims to safeguard its business interests

For a long time now, Twitter has been interfering in Indian politics. As the past incidents suggest, Twitter has firmly aligned itself with the Congress party, allowing them a great leeway to peddle fake news and manipulated videos to attack their opponents while suppressing the attempts made to expose their treachery.

But with the toolkit fiasco, Twitter overplayed its hand and failed spectacularly. The response from the Indian government was severe and unrelenting. A new digital law was soon notified, asking social media organisations operating in the country to abide by the law or risk losing legal indemnity. While all social media companies fell in line and complied with the law, Twitter, in its hubris, did not follow the law and cried hoarse that the Indian government was suppressing the freedom of expression.

The Indian government, however, remained undaunted by Twitter’s protestations and asked the social media behemoth to follow the rules or face the consequences. As a result, Twitter lost its intermediary status and is now liable to face prosecution. The BJP government at the centre has made it clear to Twitter that it will be treated at par with other social media organisations, with no special treatment to the social media giant.

Twitter in India is on precarious terrain. It has already antagonised the ruling BJP with its arbitrary take on fighting fake news. It cannot afford to come into the crosshairs of the opposition by removing tweets posted by their leaders and sympathisers or mark them as ‘manipulated media’. The BJP has made it amply clear that if need be, it will not hesitate to penalise Twitter for its mischiefs. In such a scenario, alienating Congress by removing tweets posted by their leaders could draw the ire of the grand old party.

Twitter’s inertia in taking action against manifestly misleading posts from the likes of Gaurav Pandhi, Prashant Bhushan, and others is an attempt at self-preservation. It is acutely aware that it cannot operate in India by antagonising both the ruling party as well as the opposition party. Twitter’s lack of action against Congress leaders is a cynical attempt to safeguard its business interest, even if that means endangering the lives of millions of people by allowing its platform to be used for malicious propaganda and anti-vaccine posts.

BJP MLA files complaint against Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi, Swara Bhasker seeking FIR under NSA for trying to instigate communal riots using fake news

After UP Police filed an FIR against Alt News Co-founder Md. Zubair, Twitter and Twitter, The Wire, and several journalists for trying to instigate communal riots by peddling fake news on the Loni assault, BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar has demanded action against Rahul Gandhi and others for the same act. The MLA from Loni in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh wrote a letter to the Loni border police station in charge saying that Rahul Gandhi, Swara Bhasker, MP Asaduddin Owaisi etc were trying to instigate riots in his constituency.

In the letter, the MLA wrote that Rahul Gandhi, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, ‘so-called actress’ Swara Bhasker and others had posted tweets from their official Twitter handles blaming Lord Shri Ram and his devotees for the assault on Abdul Shamad Saifi, when the fact is that even Muslim youths were also involved in the attack. This proves that they were trying to give the incident a communal colour, he wrote.

Nand Kishor Gurjar has written that this is a well-planned conspiracy and the part of an international plot to instigate communal riots in Loni along with entire Uttar Pradesh, so that the central and the state govt can be blamed. He says that Rahul Gandhi, Owaisi, Bhasker and other conspirators tweeted saying only Hindus were accused in the case so that Hindu-Muslim riots break out in Loni which is a sensitive region from the minority population point of view, along with the entire nation.

In view of this, cases should be filed against Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi, Swara Bhasker and others under NSA and strong actions should be taken against them so that the unity of the nation can be preserved, Gurjar wrote.

After one elderly man in Ghaziabad named Abdul Shamad Saifi was assaulted by some people, ‘fact-checker’ Md. Zubair had spread the fake news that he was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by the attackers, giving the incident a communal colour. The same claim was then made by several journalists, politicians and others on social media.

On 15th June, Rahul Gandhi had shared a report making the same false claims, saying he can’t believe that true devotees of Lord Ram will do such a thing. He had also added that such brutality is miles away from humanity and it is shameful for both society and religion. By this, Rahul Gandhi had reinforced the claim that religion was behind the crime.

Islamist activist Swara Bhasker continued to claim that the Muslim man was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram even after it was revealed that Muslims were part of the group which had assaulted him. She continued to insist that since the main accused is a Hindu, the accusation must be true.

By This, the ‘so-called’ actress wanted to say that Muslim youths continued to assault the Muslim man even after one Hindu nan had forced him to chant Jai Shri Ram. She also claimed that the main accused Pravesh Gujjar had forced Saifi to chant Jai Shri Ram on camera, while the fact is that the video that had emerged on social media had no audio. She continued to stick to the false claim even after Zubair had deleted the video after he was caught spreading fake news.

Similarly, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had also posted a video claiming that the crime on the elderly Muslim man was a result of hatred against Muslims. He had also blamed the BJP govt in UP for the crime.

After conducting an investigation into the case, the Ghaziabad police have confirmed that there was no religious angle behind the attack, and it was the result of an enmity. According to police, the victim had sold a Tabeez to Pravesh Gujjar, but when Gurjar believed that it caused harm to him instead of benefiting him, he plotted and executed the attack. The police have already filed FIR against Zubair, Rana Ayyub, The Wire, Salman Nizami, Maksoor Usmani, Sama Mohammad, Saba Naqvi, Twitter and Twitter for spread fake news to instigate a communal riot.

Did a journalist inadvertently end up revealing real reason why Rahul Gandhi ended his West Bengal rallies?

News18 journalist Pallavi Ghosh on Wednesday revealed that Congress President Sonia Gandhi has already been fully vaccinated.

Citing sources within Congress, she said that Sonia Gandhi has taken both the doses of vaccine and while her son Rahul Gandhi was slated to take first dose of vaccine on 16th April 2021, he could not since he tested positive for Chinese coronavirus. He had to defer his vaccination for the same.

Soon, netizens pointed out that if what Ghosh tweeted was indeed true, then Rahul Gandhi’s ‘sensitive’ gesture of cancelling public rallies in West Bengal elections due to rising Coronavirus cases during second wave of the pandemic was nothing but a smokescreen.

Here is what happened.

On 18th April, 2021, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to announce that in view of the worsening COVID situation, he was going to cancel all his public rallies in West Bengal during the elections.

His gesture was hailed as leading by example as a ‘leader’ should for limiting public gatherings in middle of raging pandemic.

Two days later, on 20th April, he took to Twitter to announce that he had tested positive for Chinese coronavirus.

On 20th April he said that after experiencing mild symptoms, he got himself tested and was COVID positive.

However, if what Ghosh said is to be believed, Rahul Gandhi had already tested positive for Chinese coronavirus on 16th April itself, four days prior to him making the announcement. That means, when he cancelled the public rallies in West Bengal, he was actually COVID positive and deliberately chose to skip that information while ‘leading by example’.

As of this moment it is not yet clear whether Rahul Gandhi has taken the vaccine jab. However, there seems to be more than what meets the eye when it comes to reasons behind him cancelling the West Bengal rallies.

Loni assault case: FIR does not mention Jai Shri Ram slogan, victim didn’t want to file complaint and local SP leader behind false allegations

Note: Later reports suggests the main accused’s name is Parvez Gujjar and not Parvesh Gujjar.

Startling new details have surfaced in the case of the assault of Abdul Samad Saifi in Loni in UP, which had gone viral on the internet after Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair shared it on Twitter claiming that the man was assaulted and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram. The Ghaziabad police promptly busted the propaganda, stating that the incident was related to personal enmity and had no religious angle.

Journalist Swati Goel Sharma of Swarajya Magazine shared the sequence of the events before the video went viral on social media websites. According to Sharma, Abdul, who was into the business of selling occult amulets, was beaten on June 5 by the assaulters because the talisman sold by him did not work as promised. However, Abdul did not file a police complaint against his attackers.

On June 7, a local Samajwadi Party man, Umed Pahalwan did a Facebook live along with Abdul in which he claimed that Abdul was beaten by miscreants who forced him to chant Jai Shri Ram slogans. This is how police came to know about Abdul’s assault and approached him to get the details of the incident.

The FIR was filed on June 7 after police took cognisance of the claims made by Umed Pahalwan in his Facebook Live session. However, in his statement to police, Abdul made no mention of Jai Shri Ram slogans. He failed to identify any of the attackers and pretended he did not know any one of them, even though Parvesh was one of his client to whom he had sold an occult amulet.

The SP of the region told Swati that Abdul was not keen on filing a complaint against his attackers. He said Abdul did not come to the police station even once despite several reminders. He came to the police station on the night of June 14 but left briefly after complaining of stomach ache. The SP, who has watched the original video of assault said that there was no mention of Jai Shri Ram in the video. All he could hear was Parvesh and others accusing Abdul of cheating them.

Swati’s team also spoke to Parvesh’s maternal aunt, who admitted that Abdul knew who Parvesh was and had been visiting his family for the last three months. Yet, in the FIR, Abdul claimed that he knew none of his assaulters. His aunt revealed Parvesh took the services of Abdul on the recommendation of his friend Intezaar.

However, Parvesh claimed that far from proving beneficial, the amulet started showing negative effects starting with the miscarriage of Parvesh’s wife and later with his home temple catching fire. This enraged Parvesh and he, along with his friends, accosted Abdul and assaulted him over the effectiveness of the amulet.

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair tries to defame Jai Shri Ram over a petty squabble

A nefarious attempt to give a communal twist to a seemingly ordinary criminal incident was made by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair when he posted a mute version of the video to allege that one Sufi Abdul Samad Saifi was attacked by five goons in Loni, Ghaziabad, and was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram.

Zubair, who has a knack for peddling lies and misinformation on social media platforms, also shared a video in which Saifi was testifying that he was assaulted in the name of Jai Shri Ram. While speaking about the matter, Abdul Samad Saifi claimed that he was about to board an autorickshaw but was stopped by the accused. He said that his face was covered with a handkerchief and taken to an undisclosed location. Saifi alleged that he was locked inside a room and brutally thrashed. He also claimed that the miscreants had forced him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ at gunpoint. “They told me that they have killed several Muslims in the past and will do the same to me,” Saifi further alleged.

It is noteworthy to mention that the video of the assault does not contain any audio, which can verify the claim that Saifi was coerced into chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ or ‘Ram Ram’. Moreover, the victim had alleged that a gun was used by the accused to intimidate him although it wasn’t visible in the video footage.

Many social media warriors and prejudiced journalists nonetheless bought into this fiction and started sharing the video online to vilify Hindus and allege that an elderly man was browbeaten, threatened, assaulted and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Ghaziabad Police issues clarification after the case is brazenly communalised on social media

In a tweet, Ghaziabad police informed that three accused had been arrested in the case. According to the police, the incident took place about 10 days ago on June 5, 2021. The victim Abdul Samad Saifi had travelled to the Loni border from Bulandshahr, where he was escorted to the house of accused Parvesh Gujjar in Banthala in Loni. After some time, the co-accused, namely, Kallu, Poli, Arif, Adil aka Mushahid arrived at Parvesh’s house and began thrashing the victim.

The victim Saifi sold amulets for a living. According to the police, the accused were miffed after the amulet proved harmful to them. Unlike what the victim had alleged, the police said that he knew the culprits for a long time. Reportedly, Saifi had sold his amulets to several people in the village through the accused. The police had initially arrested Parvesh while Adil and Kallu were nabbed on Monday (June 14). A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The cops assured that the other culprits would soon be arrested.
