Rajasthan: Police officer suspended for animal sacrifice in Temple after animal rights activists get involved, case registered

A sub-inspector in Rajasthan was suspended for sacrificing a goat at a Temple in Paradva village under Kasbathana area. Disciplinary action was initiated against him as well after animal rights activists intervened into the matter.

The police officer in question has been identified as Bhanwar Singh, SHO of Deoli-Manjhi police station in Kota district. A 54-second video of the Pashubali ritual went viral on social media following which the Police got involved.

Kota Rural SP Sharad Choudhary ordered an enquiry into the matter to be conducted by Circle Officer (CO) of Sangod Rameshwar Parihar. A case has also been registered against the suspended police officer from Rajasthan.

As per reports, the incident occurred on the 19th of February when the police officer was on leave to attend the tonsure ceremony of his grandson. A goat was sacrificed at the local Temple. SHO of Kasbathana police station Bhagwan Das, however, claimed that he was not aware of the suspension order and said that an investigation into the matter was still underway.

The Hindu ritual of animal sacrifice has come under intense attack in recent times with numerous attempts to have it banned. The Supreme Court had permitted the ritual to be performed last year after the Tripura High Court had it banned. The apex court had stayed the order of the Odisha High Court banning the ritual as well.

Congress IT cell passes off old images of left parties rally to claim lakhs of people attended their rally in Bengal

On Sunday, several Congress leaders took to Twitter to share a set of images of a political rally in West Bengal and claimed that lakhs of people had gathered at the brigade ground in Kolkata to attend a joint rally of Congress and the left parties.

Saral Patel, who is the national convenor of the Congress IT cell, shared two images on Twitter to claim that a sea of people had thronged at the Joint Rally of the Congress party and Communist Party of India – Marxist at the Brigade Ground in Kolkata. The Congress leader said that the images showed the anger of people in West Bengal and added that the images will surely give sleepless nights to rulers in Delhi as well as Kolkata.

It is pertinent to note that the Left parties and Congress has formed a coalition ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

Following the footsteps of Saral Patel, Vinay Kumar Dokania, who is the national co-coordinator of the Congress IT Cell, also shared the same set of images to claim that images are from the joint rally.

Journalist Pankaj Pachauri, who was the media advisor of former PM Manmohan Singh, also shared the same image claiming it to from today.

Ahmed Bilal Chowdhury, a Congress party sympathiser on Twitter, also put out the same set of images to add that PM Modi and Amit Shah will have sleepless nights after seeing the image of the joint rally of INC and the left in West Bengal.

Another Congress supporter who goes by the name Elizabeth, sharing the images, said that a swarm of people had come at brigade ground to the joint rally of INC and Left in Bengal.

However, the image shared by the Congress leaders and the trolls associated with the party is not a recent one.

Fact Check:

The two images shared by the Congress IT cell members and several other party workers on social media were not captured at the so-called joint rally of the Congress party and the left parties in Kolkata on Sunday.

Contrary to the claims of the Congress party workers, the image was taken at a rally of leftist parties at the Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata on Feb 3 2019.

From the above set of images, it is clear that the Congress party IT cell was sharing misleading images to falsely claim that a huge of workers had attended the so-called joint rally of the Congress and left parties in the Brigade ground of Kolkata.

Kejriwal indulged in fearmongering regarding the ‘farmer protests’ and falsely claimed that the BJP had called farmers ‘anti-national’. He said that the three farm laws are ‘death warrant’ for farmers and declared that it was a ‘do or die’ situation for farmers.

On Saturday, the Gujarat police detained a woman after she tied her husband behind a tempo and dragged him on the road for half a kilometre in Kadodara in Surat, reported The Times of India. The accused’s brother has also been detained in connection to the case.

As per reports, the incident took place on Friday. The victim, identified as Balkrushna Rathod, returned home in the Durganagar locality of Kadodara in an inebriated state. He then began assaulting his wife Shital Rathod. While seeking help, Shital informed her brother Anil Chauhan. After some time, Anil drove to her house in his mini tempo to pacify the heated situation.

When Anil requested Balkrushna to stop thrashing Sithal, he began hurling abuses at the brother-sister duo. Balkrushna then proceeded to destroy things in the house, despite all attempts made by Anil to stop him. It was then that the brother-sister duo thrashed the victim and tied his one hand to the back of the temp. They then dragged him on the road in full speed for about half a kilometre.

The video of the incident was caught in one of the CCTV cameras. In the footage, the victim Balkrushna could be seen being dragged along the ground on the rocky road. On seeing the condition of the vict im, the locals took the matter into their own hands. They chased the mini tempo and stopped it, and thrashed Anil Chauhan, who had been driving the vehicle. The locals then handed him over to the police.

The victim was rushed to a private hospital in Kadodara for immediate medical attention. However, when his condition worsened, Bakkrushna was shifted to SMIMER Hospital & Medical College. He has sustained several head injuries and his condition is said to be critical. The victim works as a labourer in a dyeing mill and his family hails from Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. As of now, Balkrushna has remained in an unconscious state.

While speaking about the incident, a police official informed, “The victim did not stop and instead abused both brother and sister. The woman told the police that Balkrushna often thrashed her and also failed to return home for days at a stretch.” The cops have detained Anil Chauhan and Sithal Rathod on charges of attempt to murder. The police said that the brother-sisiter duo would be arrested, once they test negative for Coronavirus.

After casting his vote, Patel said that in his constituency there has always been a panel for independent candidates. “My vote is for whoever who brings development to Viramgam,” he said. Hardik has been upset with Congress as the party, which was humiliated in the recently concluded six civic body polls in Gujarat, did not even hold one public meeting for him. He claims that the party is not being able to fully utilise his potential. He said that his own party leaders want to bring him down. Patel is accused of sedition in 2015 Patidar reservation agitation.

On Sunday, Gujarat held elections for 81 Nagarpalikas, 31 Zilla Panchayats and 231 Taluka Panchayats. The results for the same will be declared on 2nd March 2021.

Arunachal Pradesh becomes COVID-19 free with zero active cases, fresh cases continue to surge in Kerala and Maharashtra

On Sunday, Arunachal Pradesh became a coronavirus-free state after the three active cases in the state recovered from the Chinese virus.

According to the reports, the health department of Arunachal Pradesh said that the total caseload in the northeastern state tallied at 16,836. The number of recoveries stood at 16,780, while 56 people in the state lost their lives. This means, the state does not have a single active case of Coronavirus at present.

State Surveillance Officer Lobsang Jampa said that the northeastern state has not recorded any fresh COVID-19 case in the past 24 hours making it a coronavirus free state.

Arunachal Pradesh’s recovery rate and positivity rate are at 99.66 per cent and zero per cent, respectively, the official said. The state has carried out tests for more than 4 lakh people, including 312 on Saturday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer (SIO) Dimong Padung said 32,325 health and frontline workers have been inoculated with vaccine shots in the state. The health department has been carrying out the inoculation drive four days a week – Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Fresh cases continue to surge in Maharashtra, Kerala

Maharashtra and Kerala have now become the major concern in terms of the fresh coronavirus cases in the country. The two states together account for nearly 70 per cent of the total cases in the country.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi-ruled Maharashtra is the latest coronavirus hot spot in the country as it registered 8,623 new coronavirus cases and recorded 51 deaths in the last 24 hours.

According to the state health department, the total count of cases reported in the state has gone up to 21,46,777, including 72,530 active cases. The total deaths due to Covid in Maharashtra is 52,092.

As can be seen, from around 11th February itself Maharashtra has been showing a consistently upward trend of active coronavirus cases. Mumbai alone has recorded 987 new Covid-19 cases. The total cases in the country’s financial capital now stand at 3,24,866, while the death toll reached 11,466 on Friday.

Meanwhile, the pandemic continues to rage in Kerala, where 3,792 new cases of Covid-19 and 18 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours. The active caseload in Kerala stood at 50,514, while the total death toll touched 4,182. The total number of cases in Kerala currently stands at 10,56,150.

In a major worry, Gujarat, which had almost recovered from the pandemic, has witnessed a massive surge in coronavirus cases in the past few days. On Friday, Gujarat reported 451 new cases, while one person lost his life due to Covid-19. Gujarat has so far reported 2,69,031 Covid-19 cases, out of which 2,62,487 patients have recovered.

Following the surge in cases, the Gujarat government has extended the night curfew in four major cities Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot for another 15 days.

In ha heartbreaking interview to ANI, the old woman struggles to recount the horrors she had to endure. Her eyes were swollen and her face had a sick dark hue.

She makes it clear that she was attacked by Trinamool workers. She was pushed around and beaten and said that they were warned not to speak about the incident. She also says that she did not recognize the people who assaulted her.

Shobha Majumder says that her entire body was paining. From her posture, it was evident that she was struggling to speak and was still suffering the effects of the assault. The attack on her only reveals the hollowness of Mamata Banerjee’s slogan ‘Maa, Maati, Manush’.

“They pushed my mother and she has been injured…After attacking us, they left the house. I am a member of the local BJP Mandal (BJP committee). They first assaulted us with bare hands and then hit on my head with the hood of a revolver. After that, I fell down on the ground. They kicked and assaulted me further,” her son had said.

With elections only a month away, the assault on Shobha Majumder and her son only emphasises the fact that political violence remains a very legitimate threat in West Bengal.

Controversial Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rathod today tendered his resignation from Maharashtra state cabinet citing ‘dirty politics’ over ‘death of a woman’. He is one of the accused in TikTok star Pooja Chavan suicide case.

Maharashtra Forest Minister resigned after meeting Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at his official residence.

Rathod, along with his wife, met Uddhav Thackeray at his residence where Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde and Transport Minister Anil Parab were also present with Environment Minister and Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aaditya Thackeray. Earlier today, people of Banjara community had come forward to extend their support to Rathod and demanded that the CM does not let him step down.

Pooja Chavan suicide case

Rathod’s name emerged after 22-year-old TikTok star Pooja Chavan died of suicide by jumping off the Heaven Park building in Pune’s Wanawadi area on February 8. The Maharashtra police, probing the case, filed an accidental case and dismissed anything suspicious in the matter. 

However, soon after, many audio tapes allegedly linked to Pooja Chavan’s death, moreover, alluding to the involvement of the state minister, went viral on social media. In one such audio clip, one person is heard making some suggestions to suppress a case. The person also issued instructions in Marathi to take possession of laptops and mobiles phones and the ‘issue’ should not be escalated. Further, some social media posts claimed that Pooja Chavan was in a relationship with the Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rathod.

Punjabi Daily Rozana Pehredaar published a front-page op-ed on February 28, where it tried to whitewash the atrocities of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and compared him to revered Sikhs like Baba Deep Singh (17th century) and Amar Shaheed baba Naudh Singh (19th century).

The author blamed the Indian Government of fear-mongering in the name of Khalistan

At the very beginning of the op-ed, the author tried to portray India’s Government in a bad light by saying that it indulges in unnecessary fear-mongering in the name of Khalistan. He said that the Indian Government keeps on trying to divert attention from the real issues. To support his theory, he gave several examples, including the India visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He tried to picture the situation as if the support Sikhs get from the Canadian Government is not in favour of the Indian Government. While giving an example of PM Trudeau’s last visit to India in 2018, he said that his three-hour visit to Harmandir Sahib was connected to his support for the Khalistani movement and every Sikh who tried to communicate with him was haunted by the Indian Government.

The issue was with a designated Khalistani terrorist, and not every Sikh

In reality, the Government of India did not haunt any Sikh who wanted to meet Prime Minister Trudeau during his visit to India. The problem was the presence of Jaspal Atwal, a convicted Khalistani terrorist, who was among the invited guests for dinner with PM Trudeau. When the list made it to the media, it revealed a major security lapse that led to the removal of his name from the list of invited guests. MEA had issued a statement that they would investigate how he managed to get a visa to India.

The author claims there is no difference between Khalsa Raj and Khalistan

The author claimed that Bhindranwale was fighting with the Indian Government to establish Khalsa Raj, just like Sikh warriors and kings had done in the past. He said that there is no difference between Khalsa Raj and Khalistan. He further added that refusal to remain a part of India is similar to the refusal to accept Sanatan Dharma by Guru Nanak Dev Ji at the age of 7.

He further said that the environment and soil of Punjab are not suitable for sunflower. Some crops can grow in very specific regions. If this is the case with plants, how can Sikhs flourish while being with people with different ideologies. He also blamed modernization for allegedly ‘polluting’ the mindset of new generation Sikhs as male Sikhs are getting their hair trimmed, and Sikh girls are leaning towards modern dressed like skirts.

In reality, Khalsa Raj is a broader concept that talks about the roots of Sikhism. It is based on the purified and reconstituted Sikh Community based on the principles and codes of conduct introduced by Guri Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. On the other hand, Khalistan is a political term coined in 1940 that talks about a separa te state for Sikhs. While Khalsa Raj involved everyone in the community, Khalistan talks about a land only for Sikhs.

The author tried to paint Bhindranwale as an ideal Sikh

The author claimed that Bhindranwale was someone who followed the teachings of Sikhism. Before becoming a leader and head of Akal Takht, he was a Sikh who was born in a religious family. He was a farmer, and when he became head of Akal Takht at the age of 30, he taught the young generation of his time to be strong and fearless.

He tried to convey that no one actually understands his ideology in today’s time, and Sikh leaders often stay away from supporting him. He further added that the movement that Bhindranwale started never came to an end, and it is still going strong. Towards the end, he recited the words of Bhindranwale, “Don’t cry on my death, keep my ideology alive.”

Whitewashing atrocities has become a norm

During the insurgency in Punjab, tens of thousands of Hindus were killed by the Khalistani militants. It was all done under the leadership of Bhindranwale. Nowadays, it has become a norm to whitewash the atrocities of militants and extremists by the media, and this op-ed was a fine example of such attempts. Keeping his ideology alive will mean bringing back the blood-shedding days in Punjab when no one felt safe while going out.

It was a time when people were not sure if they will be able to come back home alive in the evening. Khalistan movement was a black spot on the face of Punjab, and all communities in Punjab have faced the aftermath of the movement. Now, when the Khalistani movement is trying to make a comeback in Punjab under the pretext of farmer protests, talking about Bhindranwale’s ideology will only increase friction between communities living in Punjab.

Amidst the internal political turmoil within the Congress party, senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad hinted at the lack of ‘reality check’ within the party. He has stirred the hornet’s nest by openly praising PM Modi, for being connected to his roots.

On Sunday, while addressing a public gathering, Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “I find several qualities admirable in different leaders. I hail from a village. I feel proud when leaders like our Prime Minister say that he too hails from a village. We differ with him in political views but he doesn’t shy away from his roots.”

After praising PM Modi, he pointed out that the top brass of Congress has ‘lost touch’ with reality. “The moment you disconnect yourself from your roots, you start living in a world of delusion. I have travelled across the world but my true calling lies in my own village,” he emphasised.

The development comes a day after a group of 23 dissenting Congress leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad, former union ministers Anand Sharma and Kapil Sibal, assembled in Jammu on a three-day trip to the union territory. The rebel leaders were upset at being left out from all policy decisions including poll strategy. They had also been left out from campaigning. As such, they displayed a ‘show of strength’ on Saturday.

It is said that the “group of dissenters” in the Congress are unhappy with Rahul Gandhi’s recent ‘North-South’ remarks. They are also disappointed over Ghulam Nabi Azad not being re-nominated to the Upper House of Parliament.

Netizens take potshots at the Congress party

After Ghulam Nabi Azad praised PM Modi for not forgetting his roots, netizens took a dig at the Congress party. One Twitter user shared a meme, taken from the movie Gangs of Wasseypur, and said that Congress stooges would not claim that they have been harbouring a ‘venomous snake’ within the party.

Another user took potshots at the NDTV journalist and his iconic line, ‘Darr ka mahaul hai (It’s an atmosphere of fear)’ to suggest the condition of the top leadership of the Congress party.

Another Twitter user predicted that Rahul Gandhi would now that Ghulam Nabi Azad is turning into a Sanghi (RSS supporter).

Dismayed by the scenario that reduced the Congress party to its current deplorable state, another user tweeted, “Poor congress looks like bjp all set to rule another 60 years like congress ruled in past 70 years..”

Congress supporters cry foul after Ghulam Nabi Azad praised PM Modi

Congress supporters were however not pleased with senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad praising the Prime Minister. One Shallu Chandla wrote, “Shame on you Manish Tewari, Kapil Sibal, Sanjay Jha, Raj Babbar, Salman Nizami and Vivek Tankha as you were promoting this I guess. Utter disgrace just for Rajya Sabha post.” She further added, “You guys don’t deserve to be in Congress actually. Are we fools who voted for you where one man Rahul Gandhi is fighting so hard battle?”

Another Congress supporter pleaded Rahul Gandhi to remove Ghulam Nabi Azad from the party. “Bhai Nikal isko jaldi (remove him asap from the party),” he wrote.

Earlier, the Congress party has said that the visit by the senior leaders of the ‘G23’ group is private and not an official party visit. “Neither did we ask for the visit of these leaders, nor has the party leadership in Delhi deputed them to pay a visit to Jammu. But after coming to know about Azad Sahib’s Jammu visit, we requested him to meet the J&K unit party leaders at Pradesh Congress Committee office in Jammu,” India Today quoted an unnamed Congress leader from Jammu.

The Congress leader said Ghulam Nabi Azad while interacting with party leaders in Jammu, has made it clear that he was not leaving the Congress or joining the BJP. There were rumours that Azad might quit the party after Congress decide against sending him to Rajya Sabha for another term.
