‘PM Modi demonetised notes overnight, he should bring Coronavirus vaccine overnight too if he has guts’: former Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav is back in the news again. On Thursday, he took to Instagram to make bizarre analogies and allegations in light of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic.

Three minutes into his rant in the video, Yadav claimed that the State government in Bihar has failed to contain the spread of the deadly virus. To substantiate his claims, the former Health Minister of Bihar alleged that the incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been diagnosed with Coronavirus. “Nitish Kumar ji ko bhi Corona ho chuka hai. Vo bhi quarantine centre may jai (Nitish Kumar has contracted Conronavirus. He is also in a quarantine centre),” Tej Pratap Yadav said. Later in the video, he reiterated the same claim and alleged that it was the very reason why Nitish Kumar has chosen to stay indoors and not amongst common citizens, unlike his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.

Tej Pratap Yadav then went on to make a false equivalence between scientific research and policy decision. He said, “Narendra Modi said that vaccine for Coronavirus will be available from August 15. Why should it be available on such a later date? A lot of people are dying… I want to tell you that people are dying every minute in Bihar.” The former Health Minister then went on to draw parallels between demonetisation and Coronavirus vaccine.

“Launch the vaccine tonight… Yes, launch it tonight. If you can demonetise currency overnight, then, you can launch the vaccine too,” he remarked. He then went on an uninterrupted rant on demonetisation and added that the vaccine should have been made available earlier, in complete disregard for the efforts of scientists. “Aap laiye vaccine, hum mana kar rahe hai kya ki aap mat laiye.. Aap aaj raat mein laiye vaccine agar aap mein daam hai (Am I stopping you from making the vaccine available ? Launch it tonight if you have the guts)”, Tej Pratap Yadav reiterated.

In a startling claim, he claimed that all doctors and nurses have contracted Coronavirus and there is none to treat the frontline workers. Tej Pratap Yadav said, “They have been made to rest in beds, outside the hospital. They have nothing to eat or medicines to get treated. What are you (Nitish Kumar) doing? You are sleeping because you have Coronavirus.”

Shocking remarks by Tej Pratap Yadav

This is not the first time when the erstwhile Health Minister of Bihar has made comments that have taken people by shock. Earlier, Without taking names, he chad ompared journalist Arnab Goswami to a “virus” and the cops’ interrogation to the “vaccine”. He thus expressed his support for the targeted harassment of a journalist at the hands of law enforcement.

While addressing a gathering in Vaishali in February, Yadav equated Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to ‘Kansa’ and asserted that he will be ‘killed’ in 2020. Tej Pratap Yadav claimed that Kumar is a “Kansa” who will be killed in a “Ras Leela”. Last year, he compared himself and his brother Tejashwi to Lord Krishna and Arjuna respectively. He said that whoever would try to come between him and his brother would be slain by the Sudarshan Chakra (Lord Krishna’s weapon).

Was Rahul Gandhi the first to come up with the concept of ‘One District, One Product’: Here is the truth

With Rahul Gandhi evidently having no stellar contribution to his name in the field of Indian politics and policymaking, the former Congress president today attempted to steal the thunder of the BJP government by crediting himself for the implementation of “One district one product” scheme by the central government.

Sharing an article regarding a survey that is currently underway for “one district one product” scheme, Rahul Gandhi lauded the idea in a tweet and boasted that it was his suggestion which he made “some time back”.

“This is a good idea. I had suggested it some time back. Its implementation will need a complete change of mindset,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

What is “One District One Product”?

The article shared by Rahul Gandhi says that the Industries Department is conducting a baseline survey in all districts to ascertain one district, one product for the Centrally-sponsored Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP).

Under “One District One Product (ODOP), the government aims to generate employment, increase productivity, build capacity, impart skills, enhance market viability for farmers among other things. As per the scheme, once the product is identified, the government provides the necessary support for manufacturing/producing the product so as to ensure a better market price for the product.

BJP govts in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat already implemented “One District One Product”

Although it is true that Rahul Gandhi had talked about the idea of “One District One Product” in February 2017, and he patted himself for coming up with the idea, similar ideas were proposed by others before him. The former chief minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel had already talked about the concept one year before him. In a tweet in February 2016, she had mentioned the concept of ‘One Village, One Product’ would be initiated on a pilot basis to preserve languishing crafts through focused approach and support.

In the BJP’s manifesto for UP assembly elections in 2017, a similar idea was mentioned. The Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra, which was released on 29th January in 2017, few days before Rahul Gandhi mentioned the idea, promised to focus on one local product or business in every district. Although the manifesto didn’t mention the slogan ‘one district one product’, the concept is almost identical.

According to the Sankalp Patra, UP government has already started the One District One Product scheme to provide employment to youth in the state. CM Yogi Adityanath launched the ambitious project of “One District One Product” in Uttar Pradesh in January 2018 with the stated goal of “encouraging indigenous and specialized products and crafts in UP that are found nowhere else – like the ancient and nutritious ‘Kala Namak’ rice, the rare and intriguing wheat-stalk craft, world-famous chikankari and zari-zardozi work on clothes, and the intricate and stunning horn-bone work that uses the remains of dead animals rather than live ones, a nature-friendly replacement for ivory”.

With this scheme, Yogi Adityanath government had expected to generate 5 lakh jobs. The scheme is still being implemented in Uttar Pradesh and is targeted at providing artisans and craftsmen in the culturally rich and diverse state a profitable alternative towards preserving their heritage.

Globally, One district (or similar administrative area) one product projects are being implemented in several countries for several years. It is believed that the idea was pioneered in Japan, where One Village One Product movement was started in 1979. Since then, similar projects have been implemented in many countries, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Thailand, Malaysia etc.

The Quint defends LGBT activists who exposed children to sexual imagery, advertised colouring book with nude women masturbating to students

OpIndia has been raising the issue of the indoctrination of children into the toxic ideology of Gender Identity Politics. As expected, certain quarters are not pleased with us raising the matter in the public eye. One of them is the far-left propagandist portal The Quint. In a report which was intended to be a rebuttal to ours, The Quint deliberately whitewashed the brainwashing of the children and attempted to downplay the whole matter.

In its report, The Quint quotes one homosexual teenager to present these toxic organisations in good light and misrepresents the OpIndia reports completely. While OpIndia was speaking of the toxic ideology of gender identity politics, The Quint attempted to turn it into an issue of sexual orientation, which is completely different issues entirely.

A homosexual is an individual who is attracted to someone of the same sex, gender identity is something else entirely as we had elaborated at great length in our article here. Gender Identity overlords posit that gender identity of an individual is completely independent of biological sex and a man with the genitalia of a biological man can be a woman and vice versa based merely on subjective feelings alone.

Not once in their report does The Quint mention the fact that the Nazariya QFRG advertised a colouring book for students with pictures of nude women wearing a dildo and masturbating in it. The sole reason for it is because The Quint is fully aware that the public at large will not take kindly to children being exposed to such nudity. Therefore, The Quint deliberately glosses over the fact.

The Quint also does not touch upon the various horror stories involving Gender Identity politics because it is fully aware that the public at large will be extremely uncomfortable with the turn of events. As is clear, the objective of The Quint was to serve as propagandists for the Gender Identity overlords and portraying the facts accurately will be detrimental to their interests.

“People, especially youngsters, are fairly clear about who they are, what they are, how their bodies and hearts are responding. What is critical for us is to come to terms and learn to value ourselves. Only if we value ourselves are we going to learn to protect ourselves and make the right choice,” Anjali Gopalan of the Naz Foundation is quoted as saying.

What Gopalan does not say, deliberately one would presume, is whether children as young as 10-year old are mature enough to make the decision regarding undergoing hormone therapy to block the normal development of their puberty. What she does not say is whether we should adolescents should be permitted to take puberty blockers to, often permanently, change their gender at that young an age. Such comments in response to OpIndia reports on the matter could only ever be interpreted as an endorsement for such gravely harmful medical procedures for children.

The Quint also quotes one Dr V Sam Prasad, country program director of AIDS healthcare Foundation, who apparently ‘slammed’ the OpIndia reports. It is unclear whether the subject in question is even under domain expertise of the quoted doctor. Furthermore, the totalitarian manner in which the ideology is enforced renders subject matter experts in the said domain quite meaningless. It is equivalent to China claiming that it had nothing to do with the outbreak of the Wuhan Coronavirus.

The quoted doctor, said, “We are the second populous and the youngest country in the world. It is very sad that people don’t understand the LGBTQIA+ community issues and challenges and how and why ONE CANNOT BE indoctrinated into it. Such statements only add to the stigma and discrimination prevailing on these already marginalised communities. No one becomes a member of the LGBTQIA+ community because you are talking about gender and sexuality.”

The doctor’s remarks that indoctrination into the ideology does not lead one to identify with the community is patently false. Lisa Littman, an American Academic, established in a study that ‘socially-awkward’ girls self-identified as transgender after being drawn together in chat rooms where they reinforced each other’s beliefs about their identity and were drawn towards identifying as a transgender. She was ostracised by the academia for observing this particular trend.

Furthermore, journalist Abigail Shrier authored a book titled ‘Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters’ wherein she documented the horrific impact such politics has on our children. She also makes it very clear that teenage girls, who do not necessarily suffer from gender dysphoria, come to believe that they are ‘trapped in the wrong body’, as a consequence of which they undergo medical procedures that at least some of them come to regret later and others have their lives turned upside down. She also documented the rising concern among parents.

The Quint touches none of these issues because these are difficult questions that require answering. Instead, they provide a platform for such entities to defend themselves and spread their propaganda further. Furthermore, the propagandists at The Quint quote children and former students who provide extremely generalised feel good answers to completely walk over the topic without addressing the core issues that Opindia had raised. But then again, that appears to have been the objective from the very beginning.

The failure on the part of The Quint and even refusal to mention the concerns Opindia had raised could only mean that the media outlet does not find anything ostensibly wrong with what the LGBT activists had shown children. Thus, The Quint appears to endorse Nazariya QFRG showing a man with enlarged breasts breastfeeding his baby. Furthermore, it also appears to endorse the use of puberty blockers by children to alter their gender irrevocably and permanently alter the normal course of their development based purely on the subjective feelings of a 10-year old and adolescents.

Jodhpur: Irrfan and Nadeem Khan among 4 arrested for abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses; Court rejects their bail application

A Jodhpur court has rejected the bail application of 4 individuals booked on the charges of abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The case pertains to a mob of about 30-40 Muslim miscreants who had congregated at Maderna square in Jodhpur on July 13 and hurled invectives against the Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Police have arrested four accused in the case, including Nadeem Khan and Irrfan Khan. While presenting the bail letter in the court, both the accused had pleaded innocence and alleged that the case was related to minor squabbling. Dr Manoj Joshi, the presiding officer of the Jodhpur ADJ Court, after hearing the case, dismissed their bail plea and refused to grant them bail.

The case was filed at Maha Mandir police station by the complainant Mukesh Kumar, who in his complaint alleged that a mob of 30-40 Muslim hoodlums, armed with batons and sticks, tore up a billboard of a Hindu God at Shri Ram Chowk in Maderna colony, Jodhpur. Kumar had also alleged that the Muslim youth in the mob fiercely abused Hindu Gods and Goddesses and thrashed people present at the spot. The incident happened near Maderna Government School and since then the situation is tensed in the area.

Talking to OpIndia, the station house officer at Maha Mandir Police Station, Sumer Dan Charan, said that 30-40 people had gathered at the Maderna square in Jodhpur and started creating ruckus there. The police officer added that the mob were mouthing off abuses against Hindu Gods and Goddesses and some of them even tore up a billboard of Shri Ram installed at the square. In addition to this, he informed that while 4 have been arrested, a search is underway to identify and nab other 20-30 members of the mob who had also promoted enmity between the religions by abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses and brazenly indulged in vandalism.

Initially, it was reported that two groups had a violent brawl near Kalka Mata Mandir Road and Government School in Maderna. Members of the Muslim community were accused of abusing and assaulting the locals. Outraged by the atrocities of the Muslim mob, some Hindu youths also gathered and squared up with them. Violent clashes took place between the two sides.

It is also being reported that stone pelting was also witnessed in the region. Vehicles parked on the curbside as well as electric meters installed outside many houses were also damaged. The police reached the spot and after checking the CCTV footage, identified and detained many of the miscreants. The Station In-charge reached the spot with the police force and controlled the spiralling situation, assuring the people that strict action will be taken against the culprits.

Kerala HC says section 153A cannot be invoked against Hindu leader who wrote about a ‘Church film set’ demolished inside a Temple area: Here are details

In a significant observation, the Kerala High Court has ordered that merely inciting the feelings of one community or group without any reference to any other community or group cannot attract the provisions of section 153A of Indian Penal Code.

According to the reports, granting anticipatory bail to some of the accused involved in the alleged demolition of a film set constructed depicting a Church at the precincts of the Mahadeva Temple at Kalady, Justice Menon observed that real intention to incite one group or community against another is absolutely essential to register a case under Section 153A of IPC.

“Real intention to incite one group or community against another is absolutely essential. It is necessary that at least two groups or communities should be involved. Merely inciting the feelings of one community or group without any reference to any other community or group cannot attract the provisions of S.153A IPC,” the Kerala High Court observed.

The IPC section 153A punishes persons who indulge in wanton vilification or attacks upon the religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc of any particular group or class or upon the founders and prophets of a religion.

On May 24, a film set of a Malayalam movie ‘Minnal Murali’ was allegedly vandalized by some miscreants in Kalady, Ernakulam. The filmmakers had constructed a set depicting the church near the Mahadeva temple near Kalady riverbanks. A group of miscreants had allegedly demolished the church accusing the filmmakers of constructing it without permission.

The filmmakers had alleged that some members of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal’s Ernakulam unit, an offshoot of Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP), was behind the incident.

The Kerala High Court was hearing a petition filed against one individual named Pradeep RS, the General Secretary of Antharashtra Hindu Parishad (AHP). Reportedly, Pradeep had published a post on his Facebook page after the incident admitting his role in the act of demolition by the members of his organisation and justified it.

In his bail petition, Pradeep had contended that he was innocent and was not even present at the spot during the incident. He had further asserted that his Facebook post did not in any way promote enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion as no other religion has been referred to in the post.

However, Kerala government opposed the bail plea of the Hindu leader claiming that the intention of the accused was to ‘poison the minds of Hindus of the locality against the Christians’ stating that a Church or something resembling a Church had come up in the precincts of Mahadeva temple, which may probably be permanently snatched away by the members of the other religion.

While considering the bail application, the Kerala High Court made comments on the maintainability of offences under Sections 153-A and 454 IPC to point out that the comments made by the accused only refers to the Mahadeva temple and not permitting such activities of construction within the precincts of the temple.

The court added, “Therefore, prima facie, the offence punishable under S.153-A is not attracted to the facts of the case. (See also Bijumon v. State of Kerala 2018 (4) KHC 73.) At best, the Facebook post would amount to an admission regarding the involvement of the 1st accused as the President of the Ernakulam Division of Bajrang Dal and his supporters.”

The High Court also noted the contention of the Hindu leader that the film set is not a house or a place of worship to attract the ingredients of “House-trespass” under Section 442 IPC.

“A reading of the aforesaid provision and in particular the expression “in building used as a place for custody of property”, I am of the view that a film set, though a temporary structure, was being used as a place for custody of property like generator, etc; which was allegedly stolen. Since the definition also includes a tent, and does not state that it should be a permanent structure, even a temporary film set would fall within the definition of a house which in this case, can be said to be a structure used for custody of property. Hence, I have no doubts about Section 454 getting attracted in this case,” observed Justice Ashok Menon.

National Herald publishes an elaborate meltdown, claims ‘large population of Muslims is vegetarian’ and numerous other ridiculous fantasies

The National Herald on Saturday published what could only ever be described as an elaborate meltdown. The headline itself gives one the distinct impression that the author was not in her right mind when she wrote the article. The main body of the article makes it quite clear that the editor of the Congress mouthpiece was not in his or her right mind either.

The article headlined, ‘Eid-ul-Adha and misconception about Muslims being meat-eaters propagated by right-wing in India’, attempts to fear-monger about the rightwing allegedly demonising the Muslim community due to its dietary preferences. It also attempts to portray the Muslim community as one that does not consume too much meat comparatively. But through its course, the author rambles on about a multitude of inanities due to which the already ridiculous point is lost on the reader for good.

Article on National Herald about Bakra Eid
Article on National Herald about Bakra Eid

The author Humra Quraishi boldly declares, “Muslims in India are not the biggest buyers or exporters of meat and a large population of Muslims is vegetarian.” While the second part of the statement appears entirely preposterous, no credible statistic was presented to back the first half of it either.

What the author tried to pass off as valid statistics to back her claim was that, apparently, four of the six biggest Indian exporters of meat are non-Muslims. The author did not even bother to present evidence for her claim that Muslims do not, per capita, buy more meat than non-Muslims. It might very well be the case by some weird twist of fate but “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” and no evidence was presented as such. But then again, the entire article was one great meltdown, meltdowns do not bother themselves with observable realities.

One of the most hilarious bits of the article comes at the initial stages when Quraishi says, “Mind you, this propaganda that all Muslims go about with big fat botis tucked in rotis, has been gaining ground, portraying them as modern day ‘adamkhors’ (cannibals)!” It appears to depict some plot-line from a Ram Gopal Varma horror movie or some melodramatic horror that liberals engaging in their kitty parties. Such deluded dystopian fantasies are not things that one expects to read in the mouthpiece of the country’s largest opposition party. But here we are.

The article also mentions an incident that makes an immediate entry into the Hall of Fame of ‘Top 10 things that never happened’. The author writes, “The ‘beef scare’ has also impacted the socio- cultural patterns. When I asked a middle class Muslim family why no meat dish was served in their son’s wedding celebrations, I was told, “Who will prove to Hindutva brigades that its not beef but mutton and chicken! We didn’t want these goons to disrupt the shaadi, so only vegetarian food was served! What to do …we have to live like this, with the new circumstances spreading out in the country!”” There are more chances of the Bhumi Pujan of Ram Mandir being postponed indefinitely by one of Saket Gokhale’s petitions than of this story being a truthful account of events.

In another comical instance, Quraishi writes in the article, “And much against the hyped propaganda against the Muslim community that they consume only non- vegetarian food, let me focus on the fact that the significance and importance of fruits, vegetables, herbs has been highlighted in the Quran and also in the Hadith.”

She adds, “In fact, I have before me two books written by the Lucknow based botanist, Dr M.I.H. Farooqi. The very titles of these two books — ‘Plants of The Quran’ and ‘Medicinal Plants In The Traditions of Prophet Muhammad’ (Sidrah Publishers) — relay the significance of plants, herbs, fruits, grains, spices and vegetables in our daily intake.”

One is unsure of how to accurately respond to this. Hardly anyone could ever argue that Muslims do not eat any vegetables or spices or herbs at all. One is not entirely sure if such a claim has ever been made even. At this point, it is more than evident that the author is having an epic meltdown and it is quite astonishing that the editor of National Herald actually published this.

The author then lies outright in her article. She says, “If you recall over three summers back, sixteen year old Mohammad Junaid was murdered by fellow passengers, right inside a train compartment of the train taking him and his brothers to their home in a village in Haryana’s Ballabhgarh, with ‘beef -eater’ taunts thrown on his fractured skull, with a skull cap atop it.”

The Judiciary itself stated that there was nothing communal about the murder. Investigation by the Police into the matter also revealed that neither the accused nor the complainant spoke about beef and it was revealed that the fight broke out over seat sharing. The Judiciary also observed that the murder was not pre-planned and it had nothing to do with beef. But Quraishi, in her obvious delirious state, brings it up anyway.

Furthermore, since we are living in the age of the Coronavirus, it is quite obvious that a reference to it has to be made. Qureshi, towards the end, says, “Today, with hundreds sitting all too deprived and hungry, there is every possibility of hunger and malnutrition related deaths going up the graph. Also, with poverty and unemployment levels mounting, many more could be affected by the rising social disorders.”

At this point, the reader stops expecting the article to make any sense and even towards the end, the article does not make any and thus, the reader is not disappointed. It is not clear how exactly these claims relate to her initial claim that the rightwing was on a campaign to demonise Muslims ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

The only rational explanation here is that National Herald published this garbage of an article in order to give readers the pretence that the future of the Congress party looks far more promising than the editorial standards of its mouthpiece. In that particular endeavour, the National Herald succeeds quite brilliantly and exceeds all expectations.

No concept of symbolic Qurbani in Islam’: Muslim Congress leaders lash out at ‘secular’ Uddhav Thackeray ahead of Bakra Eid

Calling out the ‘ambiguous’ guidelines by the Maharashtra government on the occasion of Bakra Eid, several Congress Muslim leaders are now reportedly up in arms against the ‘symbolic’ sacrifice of animals, as recommended by the government. Bakra Eid is scheduled to be celebrated on August 1.

Reportedly, former minister Arif Naseem Khan has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asking him to call an urgent meeting of ministers, present and ex MLAs to review the guidelines issued on the occasion of Bakra Eid. According to Khan, the Qurbani or the sacrifice of goats cannot be done symbolically.  He also stated that buying goats online and keeping livestock market closed was impractical.  Khan opined that goats could only be bought after inspecting their size and health conditions and that such a thing could not be done while procuring animals online. “The government must issue fresh guidelines as president guidelines interfere in the religious affairs of Muslims,” he was quoted as saying.

Congress MLA Amin Patel stated that the symbolic sacrifice of goats was ‘unacceptable’ in Islam.  He clarified that even though he was in favour of social distancing and praying at home amidst the pandemic, yet asking Muslims to sacrifice goats symbolically was a bit of overstretch. Patel said, “I am observing social distancing, not crowding, praying at home on Bakra Eid to prevent the spread of the pandemic, but Muslims cannot be asked to do Qurbani symbolically.”

Muslims leaders seek intervention of Sharad Pawar

Reportedly, several Muslim leaders had sought the intervention of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.  Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh informed that Muslim leaders have been trying to get an appointment with Sharad Pawar to explain the problems faced by Muslims while observing Bakra Eid. He also held the symbolic Qurbani and the idea behind the purchase of goats online as impractical. He asked, “If Ganapathi celebrations cannot be done symbolically, then how can Muslims be asked to celebrate Bakrid symbolically.”

Bizarre rationale to legitimise slaughter of cattle on Bakra Eid

Gulzar Azmi, Jamiatul Ulema leader, made a bizarre suggestion to the Maharashtra government to allow the slaughter of cattle. According to him, 7 people can feast on one cattle such as buffalo while an entire goat or sheep is just enough for one person. He added that the slaughter of cattle will reduce the burden on civic authorities as several people can fulfil the obligation of Qurbani while feeding a number of others.

Maharashtra government tells Muslims to not demand repeal of existing norms

In a video conference, Thackeray said, “ The coming celebration for Bakra Eid should also be celebrated simply and in a symbolic manner while following the protocols.” He had clarified that no insistence should be made to change the existing provisions for the festival and demands to open the livestock market for purchasing goods should not be made.  However, BMC is expected to set up livestock markets across Mumbai to ‘prevent’ overcrowding and contain the spread of the pandemic.

Reportedly, demands have been made to set up temporary slaughter places to conduct ritualistic slaughter as the current law states that it can only happen in permitted abattoirs.  The said press conference was attended by public representatives including MLAs from the Muslim community and Cabinet ministers such as Ajit Pawar, Anil Deshmukh, and Nawab Malik.

No Namaaz in Masjid on Bakra Eid

Amidst the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the State of Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena-led-government had earlier directed that prayers for Bakri Eid must be confined to home. The government has made it clear that prayers should not be offered in Eidgah or other public places. The state govt has also asked Muslims to celebrate the event in a simple manner. “Bakri Eid should be celebrated in a simple manner this year given the COVID-19 outbreak,” an official statement issued by home minister Anil Deshmukh said.

Cafe Coffee Day: Investigative report reveals there was no harassment by I-T Dept on founder VG Siddhartha, he owed ₹3,535 crore to the company

An investigation report prepared by retired CBI officer Ashok Kumar Malhotra has reportedly revealed a gap of ₹2693 crore in the balance sheet of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD). As per the report published on Friday, a subsidiary firm owned by the CCD’s founder late VG Siddhartha owed a total of ₹3,535 crores to the company.

Reportedly, Malhotra has also denied all accusations of harassment on the part of the Income Tax Department. He claimed that there was no ‘documentary evidence’ to suggest that the late CCD founder was harassed by the IT officials. “We have not been provided with any documentary evidence to draw an inference that there has been any advertent or inadvertent harassment from the Income Tax department,” Malhotra was quoted as saying. He was appointed by the Board of Directors of Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL) in August last year to investigate the books and accounts of the company and its subsidiaries following the suicide of VG Siddhartha.

Besides, Malhotra was tasked to scrutinise the circumstances that led to the statements made by Siddhartha, in his last letter, on 27 July 2019. The investigation report revealed that VG Siddhartha had mortgaged his personal assets and shares in exchange for business loans for his company and its subsidiaries. It further stated that he failed to create a profitable business model due to ‘high cost-borrowings’ and ‘high rate of returns’ on private equity investments.

The connection between CDEL and MACEL

The investigator also unearthed business relations between CDEL and Mysore Amalgamated Coffee Estates Limited (MACEL), a personal business entity of Siddhartha. Reportedly, MACEL owes ₹3,535 crores to the subsidiaries of CDEL as of July 31 last year. The report stated, “Out of the Rs 3,535 crore, a sum of Rs 842 crore was due to the subsidiaries by Mysore Amalgamated Coffee Estates Limited as on 31 March 2019 as per the Consolidated Audited Financial Statements. Therefore, a sum of Rs 2693 crore is the incremental outstanding that needs to be addressed.

Siddhartha’s last letter before alleged suicide mentions debt burden

The above revelations validate Siddhartha’s purported confession in his last letter regarding the debt burden and lenders’ pressure he could not cope with. In his letter dated 29 July, Siddhartha mentioned his inability to cope with the company’s debt and his face-off with the income tax authorities as reason for “failing as an entrepreneur”.

However, in his letter, he had listed all his assets worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore as enough to pay off all the liabilities. “I have enclosed a list of our assets and tentative value of each asset… our assets outweigh our liabilities and can help repay everybody,” he had said in his last letter. Latest data from four promoter companies, Devadarshini Info Technologies, Coffee Day Consolidations, Gonibedu Coffee Estates, and Sivan Securities, reveals they raised funds by mortgaging shares held in the listed company Coffee Day Enterprises between 2014 and 2019.

Cafe Coffee Day founder’s suicide

VG Siddhartha, the founder of Cafe Coffee Day, went missing near the Netravathi bridge here on July 29 in 2019. He was found dead after the rescue team discovered his body on the banks of the river near Hoigebazar on July 31. His body was kept at Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru, from where it was taken to Chettanahalli estate near Mudigere. The identity of the body was confirmed by his relatives based on the ring on his finger, phone, watch, and shoes. The police had launched a massive search operation with teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Coast Guard, Home Guard, fire services, and coastal police scouring the swollen Nethravathi river.

Significant numbers of ISIS terrorists present in Kerala and Karnataka: UN Report on terrorism

A United Nations report on terrorism has cautioned that there are a sizeable number of ISIS terrorists in the Indian states of Kerala and Karnataka, adding that the ISIL Indian affiliate (Hind Wilayah), which was announced on May 10, 2019, has about 180 to 200 members.

According to the 26th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team concerning ISIS, “One Member State reported that the ISIL Indian affiliate (Hind Wilayah), which was announced on 10 May 2019, has between 180 and 200 members. According to the report, there are significant numbers of ISIL operatives in Kerala and Karnataka.”

Al-Qaida’s Indian branch, AQIS, planning terror attacks in the region

The report also noted that terror group Al-Qaida in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS), which operated under the Taliban umbrella from Nimruz, Helmand and Kandahar provinces, reportedly has 150-200 active terrorists in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, and is planning to carry out terror attacks in the region. The report mentioned that the attacks are planned to avenge the death of its former leader.

“Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operates under the Taliban umbrella from Nimruz, Helmand and Kandahar Provinces. The group reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The current leader of AQIS is Osama Mahmood (not listed), who succeeded the late Asim Umar (not listed). AQIS is reportedly planning retaliation operations in the region to avenge the death of its former leader,” the UN report said.

ISIS declared a new “province” in India in May 2019

Last year, ISIS claimed that it has created a new “province” in India through its Amaq News Agency. An area located within the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir was called by the ISIS as “Wilayah of Hind” or Hind province. The announcement, first of its kind, was made after clashes between the terrorists and security forces in Kashmir.

Earlier, ISIS terrorists active in Kashmir were linked with its so-called Khorasan Province branch, which was established in 2015 to cover “Afghanistan, Pakistan and nearby lands”.

ISIS terrorists active in Kerala and Karnataka

Recently, a charge-sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency in the murder of Special Sub Inspector Wilson exposed the nexus of the ISIS terrorists active and flourishing in the states of Kerala and Karnataka. The preliminary investigation in the murder of SSI Wilson had revealed that his murderers were “self-declared jihadists” who killed the police personnel to avenge the arrest of their ISIS associates—Mohammed Haneef Khan (29), Imran Khan (32) and Mohammed Zaid (24) by the Tamil Nadu police in Bengaluru in January 2020.

According to the investigation, Khaja Mohideen was found to be a member of the banned terror outfit Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS).
