Forgive us, we could not fulfill Rahul Gandhi’s farm loan waiver promise: Kamal Nath’s minister concedes failure in Madhya Pradesh

Admitting to Madhya Pradesh Congress government’s failure in delivering the tall promises of farm loan waiver made by their supremo Rahul Gandhi during the Assembly elections campaign in 2018, Govind Singh, the General Administration Minister in Kamal Nath’s cabinet apologised while speaking at a government function.

According to a Times Now report, the minister said: “Forgive us, we couldn’t fulfil our leader Rahul Gandhi’s promise to waive off farmers’ loan up to ₹2 lakh withing ten days of forming government in the state,” furthering that they were unable to fulfil the promise in time due to financial constraints.

However, in order to justify their inadequacy, the minister pinned the blame on the previous BJP government for leaving the state in huge debts.

“Financial situation of the state is not well, former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan left the state in huge debts,” he said while speaking at a government function here.

Last year in September, Congress minister Digvijay Singh’s younger brother Lakshman Singh had also conceded that Rahul Gandhi’s fraud promises of farm-loan waivers were nothing but a mere gimmick to con poor farmers to vote for Congress in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress loyalist had then capitulated that it was a mistake on Rahul Gandhi’s part to promise a complete loan waiver within 10 days if voted to power.

Notably ahead of assembly elections, the Congress party, and its former President Rahul Gandhi specifically, had repeatedly promised that farmer loan waivers will be granted to all farmers within 10 days of Congress coming to power. In fact, Rahul Gandhi has touted this as one of his achievements through the campaigning for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

This statement coming from a Congress MLA is not surprising since there are other loyalists who have in the past reiterated the same uncertainty. In the month of May last year, Chief Minister Kamal Nath had also conceded that Congress ex-president’s promise was nothing but a sham, considering he too accepted then that a complete loan waiver for farmers is not possible in 10 days because nobody has a magic wand.

In fact, there have been several incidents in the past that prove the failure of the Congress government to deliver on its much-touted promise. In February distressed farmers in Madhya Pradesh had threatened ‘mass suicide’ over fake loans in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress party with their misadventures and the politics of farm loan waivers seems to be in the middle of a severe crisis, as recently, yet another farmer in the state of Madhya Pradesh was reportedly deceived by the Kamal Nath led Congress government after just Rs.13 was set to be waived-off against a loan of Rs. 24,000.

Kamal Nath government’s inadequacy to keep up the big promises of loan-waivers made at the time of wooing people to garner votes before the state election has already taken three lives of farmers in Madhya Pradesh. Along with these deaths, many farmers across the state who had taken the loan from banks before 31 st March 2018 and that of more than Rs 1 lakh, have reportedly got loan waiver benefit of mere Rs 25-30.

In fact, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had also accused the Congress of blatantly lying and deceiving the poor farmers of Madhya Pradesh calling the schemes promised by Congress is a major sham.

Understanding the crushing defeat for BJP in Delhi elections: Media, Ideology and the nature of the Constituency

With the Delhi Elections ending in a crushing defeat for BJP and a thumping victory for AAP, which is much in line with the Exit-polls, a definite sense of despondency has descended on the supporters of BJP, and I am not speaking about the workers of BJP. I am referring to those who worked on the ground to make the party win in spite of admittedly late seriousness of the party towards the polls in Delhi. Delhi, being a half-municipality and a half-state, never seemed to be too high on the priority list of BJP central leadership, if one goes by the lack of attention the Delhi unit receives looking at the kind of leadership it is provided with. Here is a look at the reasons and implications, of this debacle of BJP from a mugwump’s perspective.

The Role of Media in Delhi Elections

The media is particularly excited, well, Rajdeep Sardesai broke into a dance gig on the channel. The predictions of the media have come under question so many time and this is one time that media is having the last laugh. No more are they bothered about the masks of neutrality. After the massive win of Narendra Modi in 2019 Assembly Elections, Shekhar Gupta, who runs digital news channel “The Print” and claimed the defeat of the opposition in 2019 election as his personal defeat.

There is some obvious dishonesty which one finds when one channel had their representative acting like an AAP representative as she went around asking people as to how would they feel voting for a party whose leader has come out with –Desh ke Gaddaron ko. What I noticed that she never for once asked people about how they would feel about voting for a party having blatantly communal MLAs, who stand with rioters, who arrange bail for rioters and mischief-makers. I have not seen any media channel travelling door to door asking a mother how they feel that Arvind Kejriwal is offering free buses, but that would mean no new buses for the want of resources, and by implication shortened lives of our next generation.

Whenever opposition leaders were handed over the microphone to talk about CAA and as they would go back to rumour-mongering, nobody asked them to show the clause in CAA which impacts citizenship to Indian citizens. With craftiness and connivance, the narrative was driven. Even Economy is in a mess was a media campaign. The Britannia fake story from where it started, to the Rupa undergarments’ fake story- all ended with these named entities posting better profits than ever before. Even the new Channel which went to the broadcast, day after day, lamenting economy, posted profits for the first time in a long time.

The counter to these narrative-building efforts from the end of BJP was slow, incoherent, delayed and half-hearted. Democracy is about communication and the party in question needs to undertake it. When you have master communicators like Narendra Modi or Amit Shah on the podium, they cover up for the breakdown in conventional communication of the party with the people. In UP, Yogi is able to do that and in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis is able to do the same (Even if it makes many happy to believe that BJP lost Maharashtra, I do not agree with it, nor do I agree with a similar assessment about MP or Karnataka). In all these places, we had a strong local leader who could hold a conversation with the people of the state. When there is a campaign of miscommunication, the conversation is key. You cannot build it in twenty days. A strident BJP supporter was very annoyed that his friends decided to vote for AAP because the economy was bad. He argued with them on what the Government should do to support good economic growth- Make in India, Inflation control, control NPA and bad debt, laws against the defaulters- and they had no answer.

But the point is about the lack of communication on these matters. In the absence of a media which would carry your point of view, BJP ought to have cultivated opinion-makers. It needs to step up the media cell, get in Op-ed in all leading newspapers, being limited to digital platforms will not help. If MJ Akbar can write a novel, why can’t he write a weekly column?

Ideology is Critical

A mob may say whatever, but Hindus are essentially pacifist people. Islam was founded by a Military General who wanted to establish an Empire, and Christianity was promoted by men who went out to build Christian empires. Hinduism is a philosophical religion. It does not require followers of the religion to one, surrender their sense of reason, two, pick up arms. You cannot change the basic nature of Hinduism. It is unfortunate when Hinduism tries to emulate Islam or Christianity. It fails. It fails on belligerence, it fails on fanaticism. If we look at the past, Kamlesh Tiwari was punished initially by legal means. Unfortunately, he was also punished by the laws of savagery. Did it push Hindus over the edge? No. Did it push Hindus on the streets to riot? No.

There is something called a Hindu thought. It works on the basic principle on which civilized society works. That principle is letting the law take its course. Whether it is Hauz Qazi temple desecration or the case of the savage murder of Kamlesh Tiwari (in reality, this murder was in the same way Swami Shraddhanand was murdered, in 1926), Hindus were always seen struggling helplessly to get the lawful authorities to work, never trying to take law in their hands. Yes, Godse did take law in his hand and left Hindus with uncalled for shame, deliberately and deviously pinned by Leftist- Congressi media on hapless, law-abiding Hindus.

Such events on the part of Hindus are so rare that the Muslim intellectuals and leftist media have to build a narrative around a pellet fired in the air by a crazy person of dubious antecedents even on the backdrop of a heinous murder of Kamlesh Tiwari. Since the time when Vishwamitra had to seek help from King Dashrath as a lawful authority to tackle the Rakshasas, this has been the way Hindus have dealt with every attack on the faith. When the established leadership fails the Hindus, they are lost for direction.

With Ram Mandir, Article 370, on a national level, Hindus have a trust in Modi government which they feel they can reach out to in the case of any injustice. Delhi BJP, on the other hand, has been a story of betrayal, insensitivity and pseudo-secularism. Few utterances of Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma and Anurag Thakur will not make up for the silence of BJP MP from Delhi on the case of desecration of Hindu temple in the heart of Delhi. Hindus seek the protection of the law as the first resort, when their faith, their space is encroached upon. When the lawmakers they have so trustfully voted to power talk the mumbo-jumbo of pseudo-secularism, people are disappointed.

There is a lingering sense of betrayal which Hindus of Delhi still feel when they think about Delhi Police under the BJP and with the tacit support of MP trying to find acceptance in liberal circle arresting Hindus protesting against the desecration of Hindu temples. In UP election, a common Hindu Vishwamitra can go to Yogi as he did during the Noida Mahagun Attack of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, where should Delhi voter place his trust- Harshvardhan who celebrated the end of biggest Hindu festival or Gautam Gambhir who is always ready to jump in fake matters of minority issues, going as far to offer advises to elected CM of a neighbouring state. With the state elections coming up, BJP needs to offer ideological hinges to Hindu voters in those state. The dilly-dallying, Congress-sounding politicians will not do. Local politicians like Shivraj Chauhan, Devendra Fadnavis and Yediyurappa are needed, who can hold a conversation with the people and assure the Hindus of being a lawful protector.

Understanding the Basic Nature of Constituency

Arvind Kejriwal understood his constituency. He split it into two parts. One, the fundamentalist Muslim constituency, and other, the rudderless Hindu constituency groping in dark for the want of an ideological fulcrum. He managed the second one and his team managed the first one where the %age voting in favour of Kejriwal was almost at the level similar to the kind of Muslim league got in 1946 elections. To the second Constituency, Kejriwal cleverly covered secular topics like Economy, state welfare scheme and such. He did not offer any ideological sympathy to them because his opposition too was not offering them any. The late spurt of BJP, possibly after the late realization of ideology dawned on Delhi BJP leadership, in ideological regard went haywire. You cannot create Hindu suicide bombers or get them to sacrifice kids in the line of politics. To expect them to become that by raising the pitch was a mistake. Shaheen Bagh beyond a point stopped making sense to the people.

While the question can be asked as to why Kejriwal as the CM did not ask the Center to clear up Shaheen Bagh, Center too could have written a letter and made it public asking Kejriwal if he needed any help from the centre to clean up the place. People longed to see BJP take action as they cowered in the corners while Delhi crumbled under fire of rioting mobs. All those people are not on Social media or watch TV. They do read a newspaper which is passed along at the tea stall. No BJP leader worth his salt was writing to offer a direction to the narrative.

All in all, central leadership did pitch into the best they could. They could not have replaced the part Delhi BJP had to play. With Article 370, Ram JanmaBhoomi it had provided a framework, but when the local leadership remained silent for five years on the killing of Dr Narang, Ankit Saxena, desecration of the temple, the same constituency which trusted Narendra Modi for watching its back, was clueless as to where to go. You can keep on questioning the narrative builders of the other side, but you have to build your own. One can question Saba Naqvi about why Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder or Ankit Saxena’s murder draws silence from her club, but then questions will be asked about BJP’s silence on the matter. Even when out of power, did they wait for BJP to raise Junaid’s issue even when it was a fake beef case or Rohith Vemula issue, which against turned into a fake Dalit drama? In the process of building a narrative, one needs to go beyond poking holes in other people’s narrative. Politics is about asking the right question.

But politics is also about giving the right answers. Delhi BJP was not offering any answers for a long five years. In the end, people have decided. They should learn from Kirit Somaiyya who went with the man who was shaved by Shiv Sena to file a Police case. That is building a narrative. The leadership in Bihar and Bengal should learn from Shivraj Chauhan who went and stood by the family of a Dalit burned alive in MP. That is building a narrative. BJP must appreciate that Kejriwal is a media creation. Media is a participant in today’s politics. The next battle will be fought on the Editorial pages.

In the end, this quote by Lincoln is the most pertinent, “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”

Propagandist Anurag Kashyap reaches Shaheen Bagh and Jamia to support Islamists against CAA

The ‘anti-Modi’ hatred of the ultra-left wing intelligentsia of the country, which Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap is an indispensable part of, has compelled the propagandist filmmaker to go to Jamia and Shaheen Bagh to express solidarity with the Islamist protestors present there, agitating against the Citizenship Amendment Law since over last two months.

Read- Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan says people like Anurag Kashyap use social media to get noticed, asks them to “shut their mouth”

The filmmaker first reached Jamia Milia Islamia and is expected to head straight to Shaheen Bagh from there to express support to the Islamist protestors against CAA.

The controversial Bollywood director, who had recently broken his self imposed Twitter exile only to blame BJP IT cell for the Jamia riots, took to the microblogging site on February 13th to share the picture of the invite he received from the Jamia Coordination Committee for an event organised by them against CAA-NRC-NPR, which he yearned to participate in.

Prior to this, Anurag Kashyap had also joined the ‘Mumbai Bagh’ anti-CAA protest on February 5, which the Islamists in Mumbai have launched on the lines of Shaheen Bagh of Delhi.

He had taken to Twitter to laud the Muslim woman protestors at ‘Mumbai Bagh’ “sitting there to fight a constitutional fight for their rights”. He had urged people to extend support to them.

Following the violence at Jamia Nagar in Delhi where rioters ran amok, vandalising public property, setting buses on fire, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to appeal for peace. However, Anurag Kashyap, being the fake new peddler that he is, chose that moment to blame the ‘BJP IT cell’ for ‘creating propaganda about students being violent’. This when there were ample video evidence to prove that the protests were far from peaceful and how buses were set ablaze systematically.

The Delhi Police had used force to control the rioters at Jamia Nagar in Delhi where Jamia Millia Islamia University is located. Then Kashyap had shared a 15th December post to claim that no students were involved in the riots.

Supreme court notice to Lalu Yadav on plea by CBI challenging his bail

The supreme court on Friday issued a notice to Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav after a plea was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the bail granted by Jharkhand High Court in the Deoghar Treasury case.

A bench presided by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, Justice BR Gavai, and Justice Surya Kant sought response from Lalu Prasad Yadav on the petition filed by CBI. The plea challenged the 12 July 2019 order of bail to RJD supremo alleging that it erroneously suspended the sentence awarded by the trial court and granted bail to Lalu Yadav.

In December 2017, Lalu Yadav was sentenced for three and a half years of jail in the Deoghar treasury case. His lawyer Prabhat Kumar asserted that Lalu Yadav has already served 26 months of punishment.

Supreme Court refuses to grant interim bail to 1984 anti-Sikh genocide perpetrator and Congress leader Sajjan Kumar

On Friday, the apex court denied interim bail to former Congress politician Sajjan Kumar who had been sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in 1984 Anti-Sikh genocide. The 3-Judge bench comprised of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant.

Sajjan Kumar was represented in the Court by Vikas Singh. The senior advocate argued that Kumar had lost 13 kg in jail. When asked about Kumar’s medical report, Singh said that it had been submitted in a sealed cover. Singh also urged for interim bail, citing the need for private medical treatment.

The Court highlighted that it would consider a medical report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) regarding Sajjan’s health condition. It reiterated that the plea for his bail would be heard during the summer vacations.

Sajjan Kumar was one of the many Congress leaders involved in Anti-Sikh riots, post the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi in 1984. Chief of Iran’s IRGC warns Israel, threatens to submerge it in the Mediterranean Sea

The Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, eulogized Qasem Soleimani, the deceased commander of the IRGC Quds Force, and threatened Israel in a speech on the 13th of February during a ceremony marking the 40th day since the death of the Iranian General. The IRGC is a special branch of the Iranian Armed Forces which is intended to protect the country’s Islamic republic political system as per its Constitution.

Salami told the gathering, “We have said to (the Israelis) many times: Do not count on America. America always arrives late, or it does not arrive at all. If you want to open such an account, take a good look at the sea because that is where your final place of residence will be.” The Commander-in-Chief went on to clarify that he was referring to the Mediterranean Sea.

Speaking of Soleimani, Salami said, “In Afghanistan, (Soleimani) was known better than the Afghans themselves. He was an angel of salvation. Wherever there were oppressed people, Qasem and his army were fighting there.” He continued, “When Qasem joined the fray of the war with the Zionists, the Palestinians had been fighting the Zionists with stones. He made it so that today, Gaza, the West Bank, and Northern Palestine have become a firing range and an endless eruption of fire.”

“He built such a great force that if the Zionists were to listen near their border today, they would hear the languages of the Pakistanis, the Iraqis, Lebanese, Iranians, Syrians, Afghans, Bahrainis, Yemenis, Hijazis, and others,” Salami said of Soleimani. “The enemy received a powerful slap (in Ayn Al-Asad Airbase), but the decisive slap continues until the Islamic nation expels the last of the American soldiers from the lands of Islam,” he stated.

Qasem Soleimani was killed in a recent strike by the United States of America. The killing of the IRGC General had led to a brief spell of tensions between the two countries with speculations rife that it could lead to a full-blown war between Iran and the USA. Iran responded to the killing of Soleimani with missile strikes at a base in Iraq that housed American troops. However, the threat of an all-out war appears to have been eliminated for now.

Salami’s comments against Israel were made in light of recent remarks made by Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett. Bennett said that an agreement had been reached between the USA and Israel that the USA will counter Iran’s influence in Iraq while Israel will counter Iran’s influence in Syria. Salami said that under such circumstances, Iran will view both countries as responsible for any military action against it.

50 aspiring Hajis from Bengaluru duped to the tune of ₹1.1 crore by a Mumbai based travel agency run by Muslims

0

A group of 50 aspiring Hajj Pilgrims has been duped by three persons running a travel agency to the tune of ₹1.1 crores. The three Muslim persons named Yusuf Hasanm, Ameed Hasan and Iqbal ran a travel agency named Asra Enterprises in Mumbai.

The story came to light when a victim, Noorulla Rhim Sab, filed a police complaint against the trio on February 7. Noorulla is a businessman and a resident of RT Nagar, Bengaluru. The cops booked the trio for cheating and criminal breach of trust.

Noorulla said that he had contacted the travel agency after finding their number online. The accused promised to take him and 49 of his relatives to a Hajj pilgrimage.

The accused had quoted ₹3.32 lac expense per head, following which Noorulla had sent ₹6 lac as advance to the travel agency in February 2019. He had also sent them 50 passports via courier. When Noorulla recently asked the travel agency to send him the visa and air tickets, he was told that he will get them in a few weeks. But instead of Visa and tickets, the agency returned the passports of the Hajj pilgrims through courier. After that, the accused persons went underground and switched off their cell phones.

The victim and his relatives had shelled out a total of ₹1.1 crores in between January and August 2019 to the travel agency in several instalments for their journey. According to the police, Noorulla had paid ₹6 lacs online and the remaining amount in cash. A case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the three accused by the police.

This is not the first time that Muslim men have been found cheating their own community members. Earlier, a Muslim businessman by the name Mohammed Mansoor Khan was nabbed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for running a multi-crore IMA Ponzi scam.

Did you know that only terrorists have hopes, dreams and passions?

“… a young boy who dropped out from school after Class 12 would take the keys to his father’s Maruti car and drive it around the village……. He loved cricket. He kept wicket, batted well and perhaps that’s the reason he adored MS Dhoni…..” Who are we talking about here? That would be Adil Ahmad Dar, the terrorist who killed 40 CRPF jawans on Feb 14 in Pulwama last year.

Untitled

You can read the full HT article if you want to know more about how he did the dishes, helped his mom and bought her little trinkets as gifts. Seems like his life was lifted straight from those “Adarsh Baalak” posters we saw as kids. Except that he was a terrorist. But that’s really not a big deal, is it?

Oh and three members of his family have joined up with terrorist organizations. Nothing to see here folks. Focus on how this is an ordinary family that washes the dishes, buys gifts for each other and enjoys watching/playing cricket.

Oh and they named one of their new born sons after an illustrious uncle who joined the Lashkar e Toiba. But did you know about the time Adil Dar bought his mother gold earrings? Do you see the tears of joy and pride in his mother’s eyes?

Read: Hindustan Times tries to whitewash the Pulwama terrorist, only exposes his family further

He has had little school education, and lives almost a Spartan life in his ancestral house. Marriage never figured in his scheme of things. There was parental pressure since he is the only son, but he would rather recite a UN memorandum than a nikaahnama (marriage deed). … But when he saw Mushaal, Malik says, it was love at first sight. “I decided there and then that if I were to marry ever, the girl would have to be her,” says Malik with a loving gaze for his bride.”

Now, what’s this? Extracts from the upcoming Chetan Bhagat novel, aptly released on Valentine’s Day?

Not exactly. This is from a 2010 article in Open Magazine, describing the love story of JKLF leader Yasin Malik, who is accused in murder of four Indian Air Force officers in 1990.

But that’s not very interesting, is it? You should read the entire Open article to find out all the little romantic ways in which the bashful Yasin wooed the lovely (and rich) Mushaal Malik of Pakistan. How her friends laughed and giggled at his poor dressing sense. How their love blossomed over MSN chat. I’m telling you : it’s just like a Chetan Bhagat novel, except that the lead character is a terrorist instead of an engineering nerd.

I would say that he was proud, but not arrogant. He was delicate, but not weak. He was grave, but not severe.”

Like most children of divorced parents, he felt a loss, for he was no longer as intimately involved with his father’s family.

Now, what is this? The beginning of another novel about a child on a path of self discovery?

Not exactly. This is the Quint on the “death anniversary” of “father and husband” Osama bin Laden, publishing extracts from a book about his childhood and family.

Untitled

Isn’t it interesting that only terrorists seem to have hopes and dreams? That only they have relationships? Maybe not, but it sure seems like only their hopes and dreams matter.

Have you seen our media profile the lives of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Pulwama terrorist attack? Perhaps they also had real lives, real passions and stories that deserved to be told? Perhaps they also went through love and heartbreak, the trials of growing up, strict parents, broken homes. Times when they helped their mother with the dishes or saved up to buy her a gift?

Read: The Quint continues their ‘humanising’ project by whitewashing and creating sympathy wave for Hyderabad rape and murder accused

It seems like we never hear about that. Instead, the grieving families of the soldiers got phone calls from liberal media, perhaps asking something along these lines?

Hello, I am a liberal journalist. Your caste was not completely clear from your son’s last name. So I got your registered home number from the CRPF. Now, if you are done with performing the last rites of your son, could you quickly confirm his caste so that I can do a headcount for my article? I have a deadline…

Untitled

Families of dead terrorists are asked about their hopes and dreams.

Families of dead soldiers are asked about their caste.

That’s Indian liberalism in a nutshell for you, folks.

They humanize the terrorist. They dehumanize the innocent Indian who gets killed by a terrorist.

You have seen the liberals around in Delhi as well, taking selfies and glamorizing mothers who are willing to “sacrifice” their babies for their supposed “cause.” Hints of the same attitude. Meanwhile, anybody who tweets against them is labelled a Nazi and a Fascist.

Today is one year since the nation was shaken by the deadly terrorist attack in Pulwama. Remember how liberals celebrated it with cries of “How’s the Jaish?” One particular channel whose Deputy Editor did that is still out there, presumably speaking up for “Freedom of Expression.”

What kind of human being would choose Feb 14, 2020, to write not about the precious lives of the soldiers who were killed, but spinning tales about the hopes and dreams of the terrorist? Apparently, that’s our liberals.

I recently learned that there is a whole run-up to Valentine’s Day with cutesy, juvenile names such as Rose Day and Kiss Day. At least liberal media didn’t do a series of articles featuring awkward attempts by Adil Dar to meet up with girls at school or in the neighbourhood. We are thankful for small mercies.

Supreme Court issues contempt proceedings against telcos for failing to clear outstanding AGR dues

0

On Friday, a Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer, and M R Shah issued a contempt notice against telecom companies over non-payment of outstanding Associated Gross Revenue (AGR) to the Department of Telecommunication.

The Court also directed the presence of all Directors and the Managing Director of the telcos on the next date of hearing.

Ending a 14-year-long legal tussle last year in October, the Supreme Court had laid down on what constitutes AGR. The Court had directed Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices and Vodafone to clear their dues of ₹35586, ₹14,0000 and ₹50,000 crores respectively. It is important to mention that Jio had cleared its dues of ₹60 Crore.

The Supreme Court had observed that a desk officer from the Department of Telecommunication wrote a letter to the Attorney General and other authorities, saying that no coercive action should be taken against telcos for recovery of outstanding dues within the 90-day time-frame fixed by the apex court.

It drew the ire of the Constitutional Bench, especially Justice Arun Mishra. He said, “Call the desk officer here! This is not the way your Officer should behave. We will draw up contempt of court against everyone.”

The bench has also issued an order to the DoT to immediately withdraw its order staying the recovery of AGR dues ‘until further notice’. A contempt notice has also been issued against the concerned officer who had issued the DoT order.

Anguished by how the Supreme Court’s directive was flouted, he sighed, “Is there no law left in this country? I am literally anguished. I should not work in this country at all. I am saying this with some responsibility… This cannot happen in this country. We cannot function in this fashion. Let’s wind up the Supreme Court. It is better to leave this country. They can stay the order? There is so much money power..” The case had now been adjourned until March 17.

Earlier on January 16, the bench had dismissed review petitions filed by telcos seeking a review of the SC’s earlier order asking them to pay the AGR dues totalling up to ₹1.47 lakh crores by January 23.

Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone had cited ‘irreparable damage’ to the telecom industry, owing to the hefty payment. Both these companies had filed petitions earlier this month, seeking modifications in the October 2019 order.

While Vodafone argued that it was not in a position to make payment upfront owing to financial constraints, Airtel said that the 90-day time frame was not sufficient to evaluate dues and make payment.

As per the latest report by PTI, stirred up after the SC’s remarks, the government has asked telcos to pay up dues before Friday midnight. PTI has cited a government order issuing to circle or zone-wise demand notices to telecom companies, asking them to pay up the dues before 11.59 pm Friday, that is today.

Coronavirus outbreak: Indian ports decide not to allow disembarkation of crew of ships coming from China

0

The Indian Port authorities have decided not to allow disembarkation of the crew of ships hailing mainly from China, Hong Kong, Macau and other eastern countries like Thailand and Singapore at all Indian ports, in order to avoid the deadly epidemic of coronavirus.

As per reports, the health officer of Chennai port, S Senthilnathan said, “Disembarkation of the crew of ships from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, and Singapore are not allowed in order to avoid any risk of coronavirus spreading here. This condition is applicable in all the Indian ports”.

He also said that the authorities are collecting pre-arrival health data, and the health data of the crew joining midway will also be collected. The ships will be allowed to berth but the crew will not be allowed to disembark regardless of their nationality and will not be allowed to dump their garbage, he added.

Senthilnathan said the major focus is the ships coming from Chinese ports with or without Chinese crew, ships that didn’t come from a Chinese port but have Chinse crew, and with one or more non-Chinese crew who had boarded the ship at a Chinese port. Once the ship is found to be coming from China, the health condition of the crew will be monitored continuously.

Earlier he said that an average of 20 cargo ships reaches Indian ports of Chennai and Kamrajar. Each ship has an average of 25 crew members, which means a total of 400 crew members reach Indian ports per month.

The panic of deadly coronavirus is increasing as the number of the infected population by the virus is accelerating. More than 30000 of human life is in danger only in the Wuhan province of China where the coronavirus epidemic first broke out. The World Health Organization issued guidelines earlier this year educating to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.

The Indian authorities have already evacuated many of their own students and citizens living in Wuhan. There were three cases of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported, of whom the first patient is recovered and is quarantined.
