Gujarat: Ahmedabad woman Ayesha commits suicide by jumping into Sabarmati River, last video message goes viral

A video has gone viral on social media where Ayesha, a young woman, can be heard announcing her decision to commit suicide. According to reports, Ayesha committed suicide soon afterwards jumping into the Sabarmati River.

Ayesha says in the video, “I am happy and I want to die in peace, I don’t want to fight, I love Arif.” Arif is her husband whom she had married in 2018. Reportedly, after their marriage, Arif and his family began to harass Ayesha for dowry. She had filed a complaint against her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law at the Vatva police station and a case of domestic violence was filed as well.

She said, “Dear Dad, when will you fight your case? Don’t let Ayesha fight because she doesn’t want to fight. If Arif wants freedom, then he is free. Let’s live our life, this is the opportunity. I am happy, I will meet Allah, I will tell him, where did I go wrong? I got good parents, wonderful friends but something either lacked in me or my fate.”

She said further, “This is a lovely river and I hope it absorbs me, Main hawaaon ki tarah hoon; main behna chaahti hoon… Main khush hoon aaj… Mujhe duaon me yaad karna, kya pata jannat mile na mile (I am like the winds; I want to flow… I am happy today… Remember me in your prayers. Don’t know if I will go to heaven or not).”

Her suicide has sparked several strong reactions on social media. Authorities have recovered the body and a case has been registered against her husband in the matter.

While the overwhelming majority of people empathised with the 23-year old, there were some who complained that she chose Haram over Halal.

Ayesha had also called her husband before jumping into the Sabarmati River. She also called her parents before committing suicide. Her parents desperately tried to convince Ayesha to change her decision but they were unsuccessful.

She told her mother, “All that has happened his enough, I am frustrated, I can’t tolerate it anymore, He (her husband Arif) wants freedom, I will give him the freedom.”

‘Bring resolution against CAA, law for Muslim reservation’: Abu Azmi threatens to protest against Maha govt if demands not fulfilled

Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Abu Azmi has demanded the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to bring a resolution against CAA-NRC in the ongoing assembly session and has also asked the government to bring a law to provide 5% reservations to Muslims in the state.

Speaking to the media, Abu Azmi, who is also a partner in the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, demanded the Uddhav Thackeray-led government to bring in legislation to provide 5 per cent reservations to Muslims in the state. The controversial Samajwadi Party leader warned of taking to streets against the state government if they fail to do it.

Abu Azmi also said that the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP lead coalition should pass a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act that provides citizenship to persecuted minorities from the three neighbouring Islamic countries.

Recently, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra had proposed extending the contentious 5 per cent reservations for Muslims across educational institutes in the state. Informing about the government proposal to provide reservations to Muslims in educational institutes, Minority Affairs minister Nawab Malik said that the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government would soon bring in an ordinance to this effect in the ongoing Budget session.

Speaking on the same, Samajwadi Party’s Abu Azmi had earlier lauded the Maharashtra Government, stating that this move would not only benefit the Muslims but the country as a whole.

“Today, people say that Muslims are backward, the truth is that education has become so expensive. This reservation will prove as a great benefit for the Muslims who could not afford education,” said Abu Azmi. 

MVA alliance’s persistent push for Muslim reservations

Ever since Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance formed a government in Maharashtra, the alliance partners have been pressing to bring in reservations for Muslims in the state. In January 2020, a month after Uddhav Thackeray became the chief minister, several reports surfaced stating that Maha Vikas Aghadi government is preparing to introduce reservations for Muslims in the state.

It is pertinent to note that the Shiv Sena was earlier amongst the political parties who had vehemently opposed the reservations based on religion in Maharashtra but owing to the changing political dynamic, it appears to have acquiesced to the NCP-Congress demand of passing reservations for Muslims in education.

Bihar: NDA keeps its promise, free coronavirus vaccination for all in the state

The second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive has started pan-India on March 1 to cover people aged above 60 years and those above 45 with comorbidities. The Bihar government has announced that it will bear the entire cost of the Covid-19 vaccine in both government and private hospitals. Though the government hospitals will provide vaccine for free across the country, private hospitals will levy charges of up to Rs.250 per dose.

However, after the announcement, the vaccine will remain free in both government and private hospitals in Bihar. Notably, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised in its election manifesto before the Bihar assembly elections that if they come back in power, the Covid-19 vaccines will be free for all.

The decision to make Covid-19 vaccine free for private hospitals as well was made during a meeting chaired by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on February 28. In a statement, CM Nitish said, “Vaccination will be absolutely free in the entire Bihar state. Such facility will be made available even at private hospitals, it will be facilitated by the state government.”

On Monday, the West Bengal unit of the BJP put out a video drawing analogies between the slogans of the separatist leaders of the Muslim League in 1946 to that of the recent speech by Peerzada-turned-politician Abbas Siddiqui. The BJP tweeted, “Ladke lenga Pakistan (We will fight until we get Pakistan) – Muslim League leaders, 1946. Matribhumi ke saadhin korbo (We will gain independence for our homeland) – Abbas Siddiqui 2021.”

While addressing a large gathering of supporters at the Bridage Parade Ground in Kolkata, Abbas Siddiqui remarked, “I want to say this to all Bengalis, and my beloved folks to vote for the CPIM wherever they field their candidates. In the next election, we will free our homeland even if it requires shedding our blood for it.” As can be seen in the video, Abbas Siddiqui’s vicious election rhetoric of separatism and violence was cheered on by a large number of supporters.

The ‘secular’ alliance of Abbas Siddiqui, Congress and Left

The 24-year-old Siddiqui, who has made a name for himself as a ‘Peerzada (cleric)’, had been hinting at joining electoral politics since last year. He hails from Furfura Sharif village in Hooghly district and yields strong influence over young Muslim voters in the four districts of Hooghly, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas. Sensing an opportunity to make his way to the State Legislative Assembly, he floated the Indian Secular Front (ISF) party in January this year.

Although he had initially planned to align with Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), the plan did not materialise. He instead joined hands with the Communist party and the Congress, even though they have lost ground in the State. Despite not forging an alliance with Owaisi, Siddiqui has informed that he will not oppose AIMIM in West Bengal. Given that Owaisi did not ally with the Congress-Left-ISF, the Muslim vote will get divided between in 3 ways (with Trinamool Congress as a major player in the political arena).

Abbas Siddiqui realises that his influence over the Muslim vote bank is limited to the youth in South Bengal whereas Congress has a stronghold in Muslim-dominated areas of Malda, Murshidabad, and North Dinajpur in North Bengal. The alliance is therefore mutually beneficial. While Congress has been thriving on Muslim appeasement, it has refrained from allying with the Owaisi due to its ‘extreme rhetorics’. However, Siddiqui’s incendiary rhetoric, fear mongering and calls for ‘divine intervention’ for death of Hindus have been conveniently ignored by the Left or the Congress.

A vocal Anti-CAA critic who threatened to block Kolkata airport

In December 2019, the Indian government passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to fasttrack the citizenship of individuals who have come to India illegally from the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh to avoid religious persecution. While the law covered only the religious minorities from these 3 countries, Islamists and left-liberal lobby had insinuated that Indian Muslims will lose their citizenship.

Amidst the raging debate on CAA, Abbas Siddiqui had threatened to block Kolkata airport if the law was not revoked. Claiming that the citizenship law was unfair to the Muslim population of the country, the cleric urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to either move the Supreme Court or bring a resolution against CAA in State Assembly. Speaking to Times Now, Siddiqui warned her to take immediate steps or else risk losing the support of Muslims in West Bengal.

During the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in the world, a video of Abbas Siddiqui shot on February 26 last year had gone viral on social media. He was seen addressing a large gathering of followers and praying to Allah to kill 50 crore Indians with the virus.

In the video, the cleric was heard referring to anti-Hindu Delhi riots and saying, “Recently I have got the news that mosques are being set on fire, mosques are being burnt for the last two days. I think something is going to happen within a month. May Allah accept our prayers. May Allah send such a terrible virus to India that ten to twenty to fifty crore people die in India. Am I saying something wrong? It is absolutely blissful.”

His genocidal statement was well-received by his followers as they applauded in unison. Siddiqui also said that he did not mind whether he would die or survive but he would surely take Hindus with him. However, he later claimed that he was quoted ‘out of context.’ In an attempt to water down the vitriol that he spewed earlier, Siddiqui went on to say that he respected “India’s secularism” and that he had worked for the people, irrespective of religion and caste.

The ever-changing population demographics of West Bengal had been a matter of concern for the Hindu population in the State. With a low birth rate, coupled with mass infiltration of illegal Muslim immigrants from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh, Hindus have already been outnumbered in Murshidabad, Malda and Uttar Dinajpur districts. In an undated video that surfaced on social media in November last year, Islamic cleric Abbas Siddiqui had revealed that Muslims constituted ‘the majority’ in the State of West Bengal.

“This is Bengal. We (Muslims) are not minorities here. We are the majority here. Keep this in mind. We have a 35% population in the State,” he emphasised. Siddiqui also claimed that such a thing was possible as Adivasis, Matuas and Dalits did not fall into the Hindu fold. “If we do not come to power next time, they (Hindus) will rape our women in front of our eyes. Do you understand? You cannot do anything if you do not have power in your hands,” Siddiqui was seen fear-mongering at a public rally.

Electoral challenges of Abbas Siddiqui

Abbas Siddiqui is junior in the hierarchy of pirzadas. To add to that, his uncle Toha Siddiqui is a vocal supporter of the Trinamool Congress. Many Bengali Muslims revere pirzadas to an extent that they abhor the idea of them engaging in politics. With the growing influence of Salafi Islam in the State, other Islamic preachers have been labelling Sufis such as Siddiqui as an ‘apostate.

Nevertheless, to increase the scope of his electoral chances, he has appealed that the ISF also represents the interests of Dalits and tribals. This electoral strategy of ‘Dalit-Muslim unity’ has also been used successfully by Owaisi’s AIMIM during the Lok Sabha elections in Aurangabad in Maharashtra. However, TMC leader Arup Biswas commented, “The ISF will hardly be viewed as a secular party. It is an Islamic party and will be painted as such.”

Kanpur: Fashion designer accuses one Arif of sexually exploiting her under a fake identity, complaint registered

A 21-year-old Dalit Hindu woman in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh had approached the police on February 27 (Saturday) with a complaint against a youth named Mohammad Arif, who lives in Lalganj, Ghosiana town of Rae Bareli, accusing him of cheating and rape.

In the complaint lodged with the Nawabganj police in Uttar Pradesh, the woman, who is a fashion designer by profession, alleged that Arif had befriended her posing as ‘Rajveer Kesariya’ on Facebook. He lured her into a relationship on the pretext of marriage and forced her to get sexually involved with him. When the woman became pregnant, the accused Arif broke all his ties with her. 

Based on the complaint, the Nawabganj police registered a case against the accused under sections 417, 504, 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Information and Technology Act and initiated an investigation. Arif has been now arrested.

As per reports, the police have said that the anti-conversion law has not been invoked in this case as the victim and accused knew each other and allegations of an attempt to conversion have not been made.

How Arif hid his identity and lured the Kanpur girl on Facebook

The fashion designer wrote in her complaint that she met Arif on Facebook. During the conversation, he told her that his name was Rajveer and he was a resident of Lucknow. He also said that he is pursuing a management course in Mumbai. Over the passage of time, their friendship developed and Arif aka Rajveer started visiting the 21-year-old. The victim said that he promised to help her get a job. The accused began to sexually exploit her on the pretext of marriage.

The woman alleged that Arif stopped talking to her when she told him that she was pregnant with his child in January. The victim somehow traced his family members and approached them. It was then revealed upon her that the accused’s real name was Mohammad Arif and that he had been concealing his identity from her for all this while. She then finally confronted him, only to be threatened with dire consequences.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Dressed in the traditional Assamese gamosa and a white kurta, PM Modi reached the hospital early to ensure that his security protocol did not disturb the general public and took a jab of the made-in-India COVAXIN.

Health worker P Niveda, who hails from Puducherry, administered the first dose of the vaccine to PM Modi, while a second nurse from Kerala – Sister Rosamma Anil from Kerala was also seen standing behind them.

As Prime Minister Modi got himself a shot of the India-made Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, the left-liberals descended on social media platforms to allege that PM Modi getting vaccinated was nothing but a PR event ahead of the assembly elections. The liberals, however, did not stop there as they went on discredit the Bharat Biotech’s vaccine ‘Covaxin’ in an attempt to further their political propaganda.

From the choice of PM Modi’s attire to the nurses who inoculated the vaccine to him, the left-liberals kept looking at various aspects to attack PM Modi even as he attempted to instil confidence in the public and to make them come forward to take the Indian-made ‘Covaxin’ vaccine.

The usual suspects thronged on the social media platforms to point fingers about the country’s vaccination drive. Saket Gokhale, Congress party supporters and a follower of Rahul Gandhi, took to social media to claim that he had filed an RTI with the PMO to know whether PM Modi was administered with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin by or SII’s Covishield.

Gokhale, who has been at the forefront of a social media campaign against Covaxin, also said he asked PMO whether PM Modi was a participant in Phase-3 of Covaxin. As Gokhale continued to mislead the public about Covaxin, he also insinuated that it was not a legitimate vaccine as it did not undergo Phase-3 trials.

However, it is a blatant lie. Bharat Biotech and ICMR have successfully carried out the third phase trials of the vaccine. Further, despite the video evidence that PM Modi was administered the made-in-India vaccine, Gokhale would rather waste everyone’s time by filing useless RTIs. Earlier last month, Gokhale was accused by AAP supporter of running an RTI fraud by collecting money for filing RTIs which make no sense. Though, despite denying these allegations, he has decided to file the RTI for PM Modi’s vaccination.

The dog-whistling against ‘Covaxin’ by the left-liberals is just another way of targeting PM Modi and his commitment to ending the Chinese pandemic’s rage.

Salil Tripathi, who claims to be a journalist and often refers to himself as an intellectual, initially agreed that it was good that PM Modi posted the photo as it would make people get vaccinated. If a Modi photo convinces them, so be it, he said.

However, another social media user pointed out that PM Modi instilled confidence by getting Covaxin made by Bharat Biotech, while Rahul Gandhi fled to Italy to get the Pfizer vaccine.

As soon as the social media user took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Salil Tripathi did not like it one bit. Defending Rahul Gandhi, Salil Tripathi said that Rahul Gandhi taking a foreign vaccine meant that he trusted science and doctors, while PM Modi took Covaxin to prove his patriotism.

“Only scoundrels love patriots,” said Salil Tripathi as he discredited the Indian-made vaccine Covaxin. In his attempt to attack PM Modi, the left-liberals like Salil Tripathi are willing to go to the extent of disrespecting Indian scientists and doctors who have put all their efforts to develop a vaccine to cure the Chinese pandemic.

Similarly, popular social media accounts ‘wanted to know’ which vaccine did PM take, thereby trying to cast aspersions that PM Modi might have taken the AstraZeneca vaccine.

When presented with fact, some still did not want to believe, because why let facts come into the way of fear-mongering.

Some are so blinded by hate that they can’t even see facts when they are presented to them.

For some, PM Modi’s decision to get himself vaccinated was a political event. The left-liberals did not miss a chance to attack PM Modi, claiming that PM Modi wore traditional Assamese Gamosa to make a political point ahead of the assembly elections. The two nurses, one from Kerala and another from Puducherry, were also pre-planned as Kerala and Puducherry are going to polls in April this year, they claimed.

However, they forget that PM Modi has been wearing the Assamese Gamosa since years now and it has featured in his various public appearances and he even uses it as a home-made mask during the coronavirus.

Nevertheless, the ‘naysayers’ and the perennial pessimists in the country are always attempting to create chaos and instil confusion in people’s minds.

Some Congress supporters even questioned whether PM Modi did indeed take the vaccine.

However, the rest of the country lauded the efforts of PM Modi for stepping up to infuse confidence about Indian-made vaccines in the minds of people, especially Covaxin, at a time when they are attempts being made to discredit the efficacy of Indian-made vaccines.

Former US President Donald Trump made his first public appearance after leaving the White House at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando. He hinted at a presidential run in 2024 and rubbished rumours that he may launch his own party and split the Republican Party.

“They should be ashamed of themselves for what they’ve done to our country … the Supreme Court didn’t have the guts or the courage to do anything about it,” said the 45th President of the United States. He urged the Republican Party to outlaw early voting and mail-in ballots to ensure “honest elections”.

“The Republicans have to do something about it. They better do something about it,” Trump stated.

Significantly, he hinted that he will run for office in 2024. “With your help, we will take back the House. We will win the Senate. And then a Republican president will make a triumphant return to the White House.. And I wonder who that will be,” Trump said.

Donald Trump continued to claim that he had actually won in 2020. He said, “Actually you know they just lost the White House. But who knows – who knows? I may even decide to beat them for a third time, OK?”

Trump continues to enjoy great popularity within the Republican Party. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has held Trump ‘morally responsible’ for the storming of Capitol Hill, said recently that he would “absolutely” support him were he to be the nominee of the party in 2024.

Mitt Romney, another staunch critic of the former US President, admitted recently, “I don’t know if he’ll run in 2024 or not, but if he does, I’m pretty sure he will win the nomination.”

Regardless of whether he does decide to run for President again, Donald Trump has made it clear that his involvement in politics is not over yet. While he continues to be banned on major social media platforms, his hopes for another presidential win is not yet over.

There was great outrage on social media after public health in Peel Region, a municipality in Canada, advised parents to self-isolate their children in a separate room for two weeks if they are sent home because one of their classmates has tested positive for the Coronavirus. The recommendations apply to every child, even those asymptomatic.

The guidelines state, “If your child does not have any symptoms: the child must self-isolate, which means stay in a separate room, eat in a separate room apart from others, use a separate bathroom if possible.” It adds, “If the child must leave their room, they should wear a mask and stay 2 metres apart from others.”

Experts warned that such measures are not based on science and could have terrible effects on children. “This does not seem practically possible and is highly likely to cause harm to children who would already be experiencing considerable distress with having to remain at home,” Dr. Tess Clifford, director of the Psychology Clinic at Queen’s University, told the Toronto Sun.

Dr. Martha Fulford, an infectious diseases physician at Hamilton Health Science, said, “I don’t understand how any health-care professional has moved so far away from the fundamentals of public health and of doing no harm that they would think that basically incarcerating a child in a room for 14 days is in any way justified.”

“This is shocking, especially when you consider this is being proposed for children who are not in any way sick,” Fulford added.

The recommendations, as expected, caused significant outrage on social media. People on social media called it irrational and child abuse.

Following the backlash, the guidelines have been withdrawn. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said on social media, “Public Health must ensure the best interests of children and families are at the centre of recommendations. They must be based on science with evidence for all to see. I am relieved to hear from Dr. (Lawrence) Loh that this mistake is being fixed and this flyer is being removed from circulation.”

Swara Bhasker conveniently forgets Godhra massacre of Hindus, shares Muslim man’s image to say ‘never forget’ what followed

Being economical with the truth is one of the key hallmarks of Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker. From whitewashing Islamist violence to overtly defending it, as in the case of the Delhi riots last year when the entertainer took up the cudgel for the prime accused Umar Khalid allegedly responsible for orchestrating the macabre anti-Hindu violence that swept the streets of northeast Delhi. On February 28, 2021, the actor gave yet another pass to the Islamist violence when she shared an image of a Muslim man to say ‘never forget’, casting aside the Godhra massacre of Hindus that preceded the communal riots in Gujarat on this day, nineteen years ago.

Bhasker had shared the image of a Muslim man to allege that one should not forget the Gujarat riots that roiled the western state of India starting 28 February 2002. However, what she conveniently forgets to mention is that the riots were precipitated by a spine-chilling incident of train burning, reportedly by Muslim mob, a day before the riots gripped the state.

On the morning of 27 February 2002, the Sabarmati Express carrying 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were killed in a fire inside the train near the Godhra railway station. In the aftermath of the incident, a commission set up by the Government of Gujarat to investigate the train burning incident spent 6 years going over the details of the case and finally concluded that the fire was a result of arson committed by a Muslim mob.

Not only did Swara try to sweep under the rug the Islamist barbarism that led to the death of 59 innocent Hindus, but she instead proceeded to imply that one must not forget the riots that were essentially a consequence of the Godhra Train Burning incident.

Moreover, the whitewashing of the Hindu deaths was effected by Bhasker by using the image of a Muslim man, Qutubuddin Ansari, whose crying image had involuntarily become the face of the Gujarat riots. It is pertinent to note that in 2016, Ansari had pleaded with political parties and people with vested interests to stop using his image for political gains and propaganda purposes.

Lamenting his ordeal in an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Ansari had then said, “I am 43 and in the past 14 years, I have been “used and misused” by political parties, Bollywood and even terror outfits. I wish I had died in 2002 because I am not able to answer my children when they ask me “Papa, every time we saw your picture, why are you crying and begging?”

However, Swara, being the quintessential propagandist she is, did not let the enduring trauma of the man come in her way of peddling propaganda. The man’s entreaties fell on deaf ears as left-leaning liberals continue to use his image to deny the massacre of Hindus in the Godhra Train Burning incidents.

Swara Bhasker defended Umar Khalid, the prime accused in the Delhi Riots case

This is a classic trick out of the left-Liberal playbook where the adherents of the left ideology exploit deaths and sufferings of innocent people to defend the Islamist violence. This trick was most recently used in the anti-Hindu Delhi riots where the leftists tried to spin the gruesome violence directed against Hindus as an anti-Muslim pogrom.

And unsurprisingly, Swara Bhasker has been one of the enablers who passionately advanced this bogus claim. Bhasker has also been a staunch supporter of former JNU student Umar Khalid, a prime accused in the Delhi riots case.

Soon after Khalid was arrested for his alleged role in inciting the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi in February last year and charged under UAPA, Swara went into overdrive to defend the embattled ‘activist’. The Bollywood actor has been pretty vocal in her support for Khalid on social media websites and had even demanded to scrap the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to an FIR registered in the case, Delhi Riots were a preplanned conspiracy that was hatched by the former JNU student Umar Khalid and his associates. As part of the conspiracy, Umar Khalid is accused of giving provocative speeches at two different locations and appealing to people to take to the streets during the visit of US President Donald Trump so that the propaganda that minorities are oppressed in India can be internationalised.

One can remember Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for many reasons. You can remember him as the first Prime Minister of India, or father of the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi or a freedom fighter or someone who could not apprehend the importance of the army or a visionary who is apparently responsible for everything good that is happening now in India (at least Congress thinks so!). There were so many aspects of his life and stories associated with him that every once in a while, an interesting trivia will come up that will either shock or amuse you.

One such trivia is about his love for cigarettes. From countless photographs in which he was seen smoking, it is evident that our first Prime Minister had a thing for the poisonous cancer-causing stick. To be fair, in his time, smoking was considered a status symbol or a way to look ‘cool’, but in the end, it is a nasty addiction that is hard to get rid of. If people had known the adverse effects of tobacco during that time, Mukesh might have been alive.

The love for brand 555

Anyway, there is a story about former PM Nehru that can make anyone roll eyes even today. On one of his visits to Bhopal, he was scheduled to stay at Raj Bhavan. However, the staff realized that his favourite brand of cigarettes was not available in Raj Bhavan. It was, in fact, not available in Bhopal, and Nehru was fond of lighting a stick after his meals.

In general, one may think they might have offered him another brand. But no! According to Madhya Pradesh’s official website, stock of his favourite cigarettes were, wait for it, airlifted from Indore!

Someone was given the job to buy some packs of ‘555’ brand cigarette and bring to the Indore airport. A plane flew from Bhopal to Indore to get the package, collected the cigarettes and flew back.

It seems the apple has not fallen too far from the tree as the Nehru-Gandhi family’s love for using national resources for their own private pleasures has been passed on through generations. Rajiv Gandhi, his grandson, as India’s Prime Minister, used the INS Viraat as private taxi for family vacation to ferry friends and family, including his Italian in-laws, to Lakshadweep. INS Viraat was deployed for protection of maritime borders of the country, but that was sent for transporting the Gandhi family who were going for holidaying.

That’s not all. The government employees and navy soldiers were deployed to organise all the facilities for the vacation. A special helicopter of the army was deployed their service 24×7, the entire administration was looking after the arrangement of entertainment of Rajiv Gandhi’s personal guests.
