Rajdeep Sardesai appreciates the ‘unscripted’ press interaction by Rahul Gandhi, another journalist reveals how he is lying – blatantly

Rahul Gandhi has started a series of media interactions during the Coronavirus lockdown in India, which seems to be yet another attempt at image makeover by the Congress party and their media sympathisers. So far, there have been two interactions by Rahul Gandhi where he expressed his views on the Coronavirus pandemic and even took questions from certain journalists. After the second press interaction by Rahul Gandhi, hailing this move by the Congress scion, Rajdeep Sardesai appreciated him for the ‘unscripted’ media interactions.

On the 8th of May, Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted, “Agree with his views or not, appreciable that @RahulGandhi does these unscripted press conferences, takes qs from all reporters, young and ‘old’. Q and a, transparency, accountability are at heart of a democracy. In age of Zoom, ALL netas should be open to free-wheeling Qs”.

Rajdeep claimed that transparency and accountability are at the heart of a democracy and that Rahul Gandhi took questions from all reporters, young and old, and also, that other politicians should be open to ‘free-wheeling questions’ in the age of Zoom.

However, Rajdeep Sardesai and his lies were soon exposed by a journalist who belongs to his ecosystem. While Rajdeep tried extremely hard to claim that the interaction with Rahul Gandhi was ‘free-wheeling’ and ‘unscripted’, Sheela Bhatt asserted that it was, in fact, heavily monitored by Randeep Surjewala.

Sheela Bhatt, who belongs to the very same ecosystem as Rajdeep Sardesai said that it was a good press interaction, however, it was in no way ‘free-wheeling’. She said that journalists were required to submit the questions beforehand to Rajdeep Surjewala, senior Congress leader and the journalists who could ask questions were also hand-picked by the Congress party.

However, as she said this, she also shielded Rahul Gandhi by saying that it is better to have a press conference with “some restrictions” than having none at all.

One has to wonder why Rajdeep Sardesai would go out of his way to claim that the press interaction by Rahul Gandhi was ‘unscripted’ when he too would clearly know that not only were the journalists hand-picked, even the questions were submitted to the Congress party beforehand.

Rahul lies during the press conference

On Friday, Congress MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi claimed has that the demarcation of Coronavirus-affected areas into the red (high number of cases), orange and green (no cases) is being done on a national level. He asserted that the power to decide these zones should have rested with the State and the District Magistrates, insinuating that the union government has taken unilateral decisions when deciding on zones.

While the lockdown was extended in India to further 2 weeks starting from May 4, significant relaxations were allowed as per the specific zones. The press note said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into Red (hotspot), Green, and Orange Zones.

The MHA circular clearly states that the zones are decided as per feedback from districts. It also stated that weekly review of the zones will be conducted with state authorities regarding the classifications.

The green zones are ones with zero confirmed cases to date or no confirmed cases for the last 21 days. The circular also said that the classification of districts as Red, Green, and Orange zones will be reviewed every week by the Ministry of Health with the States and Union Territories, as required. It also states that the states can add additional red and orange zones if they deem it necessary.

Moreover, the decisions of lockdown and subsequent steps have been taken after multiple meetings between the PM, home ministry and CMs of states. So claiming that the government’s decisions have been unilateral is a blatant lie.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray says he may ask for central forces to give state police some rest, admits not successful in breaking Coronavirus chain

The Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray in his address today said that his government may ask the central government for central forces in case they require to control the coronavirus crisis. This would give the state police some rest, he said, clarifying that “it will be done only if needed”.

“I want to ask the Centre if there is any way we can get central backing so our police force can take breaks and then get back on the job. If such a time comes up, we would like to ask the Centre for help. Please don’t equate it to calling the Army. This is only so that our police force gets some break so that they can get some rest and return on the job. We are not making any exemptions, concessions in containment zones within red zones, he said.

No success yet in breaking virus chain, admits Uddhav Thackeray

“For the lockdown to be successful, we need to follow the rules. We have managed the lockdown well but we haven’t managed to break the chain as yet. Soon we will also have students, Indians stuck in other countries returning and we have to be prepared for that too. I need your support for it,” he added.

Uddhav Thackeray rules out rumours of the army being deployed in Mumbai

However, Uddhav Thackeray ruled out the rumours of the army being deployed in Mumbai to tackle the crisis. “There has been a rumour for the past 2-3 days that the army will be deployed in Mumbai. There is no need for army deployment here. Whatever I’ve done till today I’ve done by informing citizens. You all should be disciplined & that will be enough. No need to call the army here”, said Thackeray confirming that until now, Maharashtra has around 18,000 positive cases of COVID-19. “This is a huge number”, said the Maharashtra CM.

Rumours claiming that Mumbai will be under ‘military lockdown’ for 10 days due to Coronavirus

Earlier in the day, a contentious video uploaded by a Youtube channel named Tech9587 had claimed that military lockdown would be imposed in the city of Mumbai between May 8 and May 17. The man in the video alleged that there is a positive case of the Wuhan Coronavirus, in every nook and corner of the city, due to people violating lockdown rules in the name of grocery shopping.

The video further claimed that if Mumbai was not shut down completely, then, cases in the country might rise up to a whopping 1 crore.

Press Information Bureau (PIB) took to Twitter to debunk the misleading claims made in the above-mentioned video. Labelling the information about “military lockdown” as fake, PIB reiterated that no army or navy personnel have been deployed for the maintenance of law and order situation in the city of Mumbai.

Though this video was fake, it is true that there is a growing sentiment among the informed classes that Army deployment in the slums of Dharavi and Govandi is needed to save Mumbai as Uddhav Thackeray government seems to be failing in handling the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP coalition government’s inability to get its act together even after months has put the city of Mumbai at grave risk.

Uddhav Thackeray shunts BMC commissioner amid raging coronavirus crisis

As the financial capital of the country continues to reel under the raging crisis of coronavirus outbreak, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state has shunted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Praveen Pardeshi to urban development.

The move came amidst an intensifying bout of coronavirus crisis in Mumbai where the number of COVID-19 cases is growing at an alarming rate. Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, has also emerged as the epicentre of the coronavirus epidemic in the state, with the city alone registering a staggering 11,394 cases and 437 fatalities.

The rejig in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) amidst the rising coronavirus crisis in Mumbai is a scathing indictment of the sham “Worli Koliwada containment model”.

A few weeks ago, many Shiv Sena members, including Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi, made dubious assertions to tout “Worli Koliwada Model” as a perfect containment model to be replicated elsewhere across the country to stem the spread of the virus. However, the repeated and continuous increase in the number of coronavirus patients reported in the city punctured the lofty claims made by the Shiv Sena leaders, who were accused of running a PR campaign to cover their inadequacies and failures.

Uddhav Thackeray’s ‘best CM’ PR exercise to cover up failures

Maharashtra’s case is turning out to be that of a clueless Chief Minister running the state in autopilot mode, while all hell breaks loose as the pandemic takes grip of the entire state, having recorded 17,974 confirmed cases with 694 fatalities. Uddhav Thackeray government has failed to handle the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra. But, what is even more excruciating is the fact that while Maharashtra is bearing the scourge of his blatant incompetence, Uddhav Thackeray is himself involved in a major PR campaign to get Bollywood to cheer for him and hailing him as the ‘best Chief Minister’. The left-liberal lobby within the Bollywood too has complied with their Chief Minister’s PR exercise.

Navi Mumbai: Vashi’s Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) to be shut for a week to prevent the spread of Coronavirus

The government of Maharashtra has decided to shut the Vashi Agricultural Market Committee (APMC) in Navi Mumbai for a week to prevent the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus which has reported many infected cases. The supply of vegetables, fruits, and grains will be stopped from May 11 following the closure of the market.

The decision to shut all five markets has been taken after a meeting with Maharashtra principal secretary (marketing) Anoop Kumar, IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal and other top bureaucrats. Anoop Kumar called a meeting with the Mandi officials, traders, and other participants in the Agri value chain and finally decided to shut operations at APMC Vashi mandi for seven days between May 11 and 17. As a result of this decision, food, vegetable, fruit, onion-potato and spice markets will be completely closed in the market complex.

Kumar said, “We have decided to keep APMC Vashi shut for the period between May 11 and 17 due to widening spread of coronavirus cases. We are also making alternative arrangements for supply of agricultural commodities to consumers.”

APMC administration and NMMC will carry out disinfection of the market premises and conduct tests during this period.

The APMC market is the principal supplier of grains, vegetables, fruits and spices to Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and is among the largest complexes of its kind in the country.

80 cases emerged within Mandi

The decision to close Vashi Mandi came after the more than 80 coronavirus cases originated within the Mandi. The coronavirus cases in Navi Mumbai where the APMC is situated has reported more than 450 cases.

With Maharashtra has proved to be a major hotspot for coronavirus, the state is trying to apply every possible measure to avoid the pandemic. As per reports, the state government has decided to set up a 1,000-bed COVID-19 hospital in Navi Mumbai near APMC of Vashi.

Earlier, Corporator of Navi mumbai corporation Jaywant Sutar called for immediate closure of mandi.

Director of Vashi APMC, Sunil Singatkar said, “We are planning to supply to wholesalers in and across Mumbai as much quantity as possible so that there would not be any dearth of supply of essential commodities due to closure of Vashi APMC. Farmers are also allowed to supply directly to consumers.”

The supply of fruits and Vegetables declined in recent days

In order to avoid a shortage of fruits and vegetables, the state governments have converted MMRDA ground in Bandra Kurla Complex and other such large compounds as temporary selling yards.

The Closure of APMC mandi can paralyze supply of grains, spices, fruits, and vegetables to nearly 20 million citizens of Mumbai and millions of others in suburbs.

During this period, all sections of the mandi including grains, spices, fruits, and vegetables would be sanitized. All market participants including farmers, traders, mandi officials, and workers will have to undergo health check-ups compulsorily of which reports would be stored with the mandi officials for future verification.

Total arrivals of all agricultural commodities in APMC Vashi has been declined steadily by 50 percent over the last three days because farmers avoided bringing in their produce to the mandi.

On Wednesday, 1050 vehicles of 9 tonnes of Agri commodities reached the Mandi while only 407 vehicles of 9 tonnes came on Friday.

Union Govt asked Twitter to take down a tweet by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya? Here is what happened

Tejasvi Surya has off-late been suffering the brunt of a targeted campaign against him. Not so long ago, certain individuals from Gulf countries had demanded that the Member of Parliament from Bengaluru South Constituency be removed from his position by Prime Minister Modi. Not much development has happened in that regard and he continues to be the voice of the people he was elected to represent. However, the latest controversy presented itself at his doorstep. A certain tweet he had made was asked to be removed from the social media platform by the Indian Government.

It was reported by various media outlets, including far-left propaganda portals such as The Wire, that the Union Government had requested Twitter to remove the tweet by Tejasvi Surya. The Newsminute, too, had covered the story. The tweet from 2015 said, “In short: true, terror has no religion. But the terrorist definitely has a religion, and in most cases it’s Islam”. The Bengaluru MP’s tweet, in fact, was one of over a hundred tweets the removal of which was sought by the Union Government. Twitter’s filings with lumendatabase, which publishes content removal requests, shows that removal of a tweet made by another prominent Twitter user, Shefali Vaidya, was also sought.

The Wire report on the matter

Following the reports, there was much angst among people on social media as to why the tweet was sought to be deleted as according to them, there was nothing very controversial in the tweet and Tejasvi Surya had only spoken the truth. The perception was also generated that the BJP, as a party, does not even stand by its own leaders and would throw even them under the bus when it comes to maintaining the political requirements of basic appeasement of a ‘certain section’. The truth, however, is a little more complicated.

A casual glance through the ‘Transparency’ section of Twitter shows that India is one of the countries that records the highest number of removal requests. What is also revealed is that the government has always asked for posts to be taken down, and this phenomenon is not necessarily unique to the Modi government. The high number of removal requests is indication enough that top Ministers could not be involved in the matter. Our sources within the relevant Ministry, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in this case, confirmed that top-level ministers are not involved in the creation of the list. We were told that local police inputs, inputs by Intelligence Bureau and inputs from other committees as created by the Government are relied upon for the creation of the list.

We were told that the deletion of the tweet has nothing to do with the recent controversy, where Indian Muslims allied with their Muslim brethren in the Gulf to attack Hindus living in Islamic countries. Furthermore, our sources told us that Ministers cannot micromanage everything and hence, certain committees are often created and empowered to act on behalf of the government. We were told that such lists once created are often shared with ISPs or platforms such as twitter directly.

Thus, it appears that the list containing the tweets the removal of which was sought was not created by the elected representatives or Ministers of the Union Government but individuals who work as part of an empowered committee that works in tandem with the various agencies and creates these lists. It is also pertinent to note that these lists are not created on the basis of any ideological leaning as such and is based on the judgement of the individuals who create the same. The inability of the Minister to look minutely into the entire functioning of the Ministry concerned is an explanation that has been offered to explain the removal request made by the Union Government.

Such unfortunate occurrences are nothing new. Incidents such as the one that has happened with Tejasvi Surya has also happened in the past. During the General Elections of 2019, Twitter was asked to take down a prominent satirical Twitter handle @padhalikha, which mocks the perfumed elites, by the Election Commission of India. That incident, too, had generated a lot of outrage on social media. That particular order was signed by Sayyid Rabeehashmi, a bureaucrat working for the ECI. According to MyNation, the said bureaucrat was helped by the Zaqkat Foundation to crack the UPSC exam. The victim of such an overreach was then an anon account on Twitter. This time, the same was an elected representative.

The government keeping a watch on social media platforms is nothing surprising or out of turn. Especially in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic, it has been seen how social media is used to spread fake regarding the virus. For instance, ‘Namaz’ was propped up as cure b y certain sections of society and certain individuals had made videos of licking currency notes and saying that it was to spread the infection. A few arrests have been made in this regard after it came to light. Such incidents are enough to illustrate why the government may want to keep a watch on the social media platform.

Social media monitoring has been encouraged at every level across governments and local intelligence officers gather input from various sources, which include registered police complaints and feedback gathered by IB officers. Various social media posts across platforms are routinely flagged and such lists reach Delhi too where officers may decide to act further.

Lately, social media posts that can cause communal disharmony has been in focus, with angry Muslim groups taking to streets. It is understood that such a list could be result of such behaviour.

Mumbai coronavirus outbreak: BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi transferred to urban development; Iqbal Chahal takes the charge

As the financial capital of the country continues to reel under the raging crisis of coronavirus outbreak, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state has shunted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Praveen Pardeshi to urban development. He is replaced by Iqbal Chahal, who is currently Principal Secretary in the Urban Development Department, to take charge of the BMC.

While Pardeshi has been transferred as the new Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development), Iqbal Chahal has been appointed as the new civic commissioner’s post to suppress the irrepressible growth of the infection in the city.

In addition to Pardeshi, the axe has also fallen on the Additional Commissioner of the BMC, Abbasaheb Jarhad, who has been appointed as the new relief and rehabilitation secretary. Former Thane Municipal Commissioner, Sanjeev Jaiswal, who was waiting for the posting, is the new Additional Commissioner of the BMC.

Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Kishorraje Nimbalkar has been transferred as the Public Works Department Secretary, replacing Manoj Saunik who will be additional CS in the Finance Department. Saunik was overlooking the Public Works and Finance Department.

The sham of Worli Koliwada model

Of late, an attempt was being made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra to tout the Worli Koliwada Model as a perfect example of the containment zone in the country to cover up its apparent shortfalls in dealing with the raging coronavirus crisis in Maharashtra. Recently, a five-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), headed by an additional secretary, Manoj Joshi, was on a two-day visit in Mumbai on April 21 to assess the state’s preparedness in battling the coronavirus outbreak.

However, as the IMCT visit in Mumbai was about to conclude, a spurious report was published in the Times of India claiming that the IMCT team which was in the city to review the state’s readiness in fighting the spread of the coronavirus “felt” that Worli Koliwada can be a perfect model for the rest of the country in containing the coronavirus outbreak.

The article published in the Times of India cites a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to claim that additional secretary, Manoj Joshi hailed the Worli Koliwada model as the best example of the coronavirus-free zone in the country, asserting that the model is worth replicating in other areas to break the virus chain.

Essentially, this meant that the article published in the Times of India was based on the inputs from the Maharashtra state government and not from the additional secretary Manoj Joshi himself. OpIndia spoke to a few officials who denied the knowledge of any such model existing and had expressed apprehensions that Joshi could have been misquoted. While our attempts to reach Mr Joshi failed, sources have claimed that Times Of India has misquoted the official, presumably, due to the press release by the state government

DD news includes Gilgit-Baltistan and regions of Pakistan occupied Kashmir in its daily weather forecast report

A day after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) included Gilgit-Baltistan in its weather reports, reinforcing India’s legitimate right over Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the DD News, too, has followed the suit and incorporated Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and other regions of PoK in its daily weather forecast reports.

Secretary, Information and Broadcasting, Amit Khare said that DD News and All India Radio will telecast and broadcast weather reports and temperatures of Indian towns and cities, including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit in their prime time news bulletins. The bulletin will be telecast at 8.55 am and 8.55 pm.

The latest development comes on the heels of India’s demarche to Pakistan against Pakistan’s Supreme Court’s order on Gilgit-Baltistan, a territory legitimately belonging to India and under the forcible occupation of Pakistan. Claiming that the entire Jammu and Kashmir, including regions occupied by Pakistan, is an integral part of India, the Ministry of External Affairs had asked Pakistan to immediately vacate all the areas under its illegal occupation.

DD News’ decision to broadcast weather forecast from regions unlawfully captured by Pakistan has been enthusiastically welcomed by users on Twitter who have heralded it is as a step towards righting a historical wrong.

For some Twitter user, the inclusion of Gilgit, Muzaffarabad and Mirpur in weather reports kindled the patriotic fervour and they took to the microblogging website Twitter to reassert India’s avowed stand on Kashmir.

One Twitter lauded the government’s move to include areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the weather reports and asked the Indian government to take more substantive actions to wrest the control of PoK from Pakistan.

Many were quick to mock figurehead Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, after India’s symbolically bold decision to include cities and regions of Pakistan occupied Kashmir under its weather forecasts.

IMD includes PoK towns in its forecast reports

The Indian Meteorological Department yesterday included in its report the weather forecasts of towns such as Muzaffarabad, Skardu, Nilam regions located in Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. This is the first time when IMD has started predicting the weather for these areas under the north-west subdivision. The first such weather forecast for Gilgit was uploaded on May 6.

China agrees to a Coronavirus review but only after the pandemic is over and under current WHO chief’s leadership

After resiting any study into the origin of Wuhan Coronavirus, China now seems to have relented as they have reportedly agreed for a review of the pandemic. China has now said that it supports a WHO-led study into the Coronavirus pandemic after it is declared as over.

On Friday, China agreed to a review by an “open, transparent and inclusive” WHO panel, constituted only under the leadership of the controversial WHO Chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at an appropriate time, following the end of the Coronavirus pandemic. The statement was made by the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying.

Hua said that the enquiry should be carried out at an “appropriate time after the pandemic is over”. The study will be based on the protocols of the International Health Regulations, and it shall be authorised by the World Health Assembly or Executive Committee – the WHO’s dual governing bodies.

The Comments from China came as international pressure is mounting on it for coming clean on Coronavirus which is believed to have originated either at a wet market or at a laboratory in Wuhan. Numerous countries all over the world have been asking China to disclose more information about the virus. While the USA and Australia have been heavily critical of China and called for an international inquiry into the origin Coronavirus, other countries like France, UK and Germany have urged for greater transparency from China.

Although now China has agreed for a review, it may not be considered enough by some like US president Donald Trump, as the review is to be done under WHO, an organisation itself under scanner for its questionable role in the pandemic. The health organisation has been accused of siding with China in hiding information, which as late as mid-February had parroted China’s argument that the virus does not spread form human to human.

Donald Trump calls out China-WHO alliance

On May 1, President Trump called out the World Health Organisation (WHO) and said that they should be “ashamed of themselves” because they are like the “public relations agency” for China. President Trump said that WHO should not be making excuses when people (China) make horrible mistakes.

On December 31, Taiwan had written to the World Health Organisation raising questions about the human-to-human contact spread aspect of the Wuhan coronavirus but was ignored by the WHO. As per reports, the organisation also denied providing critical information about how to combat the deadly pathogen.

Non-bailable warrant issued against AAP MLA in connection with suicide of doctor in South Delhi

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Prakash Jarwal and his associate by a Delhi Court in connection with the suicide of a doctor in South Delhi, Indian Express has reported. The Delhi Police has also received a search warrant from the Court and is all set to conduct a raid at the house of the AAP MLA.

Prakash Jarwal is an elected representative from the Deoli Assembly Constituency. On Thursday, his father and brothers were questioned by the Delhi Police in connection with the suicide. The deceased doctor was only 52 years old.

The Doctor had blamed Prakash Jarwal in Suicide Note

The deceased doctor, identified as Dr. Rajendra Singh, is a resident of the Deoli neighbourhood in South Delhi and had committed suicide on the 18th of April. In his suicide note, he accused Prakash Jarwal and his associate Kapil Nagar of harassment and blamed them for his decision to take the drastic step. Consequently, the Police had registered an abetment of suicide case against the AAP MLA and his associate and others in the matter.

“On reaching the spot it was found that Rajendra Singh had committed suicide by hanging on the rooftop of his house,” the police had said regarding the matter. “In a suicide note found at the spot, the doctor alleged harassment and extortion by the MLA. The note has been sent to the forensic lab for investigation,” the police had stated.

The statement by the AAP MLA

Prakash Jarwal had also issued a staement over the matter. He had said, “I have received this information through media that a doctor, who used to have a business in water tankers, has committed suicide and has mentioned my name in his suicide note. I would like to state that I am innocent. I haven’t met or spoken to him in the last 8-10 months. In 2017, Zee News and IBN7 had done a sting against tanker mafia which featured his name following which all their vehicles were blacklisted. I have full faith in the judiciary and I am ready to face any investigation. I would only like to say that there have been attempts to trap me in the past and similar attempts are being made now too. Just like I have proved myself innocent in the past and I will do so now too. I am ready to cooperate with police in any kind of investigation. Thank you.”

Another shocking video emerges from Sion hospital in Mumbai, Coronavirus patient tries to escape by jumping out of the window

Day after the Sion Hospital in Mumbai was in headlines after a video emerged that exposed hospital’s blatant lapse in managing the coronavirus dead bodies, another video has surfaced in which a man with Coronavirus infection tried to escape the hospital by jumping out of a window.

In the video, a man is seen running towards the window and jumped out of it, where hospital staff in PPE suits and attendants of patients were sitting near the window. The incident took place on last Sunday at 9:25 pm. But the man was not able to escape from the hospital, as security guards were able to nab him before he was able to leave the campus of the hospital.

Hospital sources confirmed that the man is a coronavirus patient, and he was admitted at the Covid-19 center at the ward number 5 on the ground floor of the hospital. He was on his bed, but suddenly got up and ran towards the window. Reportedly he was mentally stressed after getting admitted at the hospital. He was caught by the guards near the gate of the hospital.

Earlier Viral Video

A viral video of the Sion hospital was surfacing earlier in which it was clearly shown that corpses were kept in the ward in which the patients of coronavirus were admitted. The dead bodies of coronavirus patients were kept next to the patients under treatment in a Hospital of Mumbai in the Sion area.

In a viral video recorded at the Sion hospital, bodies are seen wrapped in black plastic bags kept right next to Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment. The incident is raising serious questions regarding the management of hospital and the state authorities.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) called for a probe into the matter.

Hospital’s Clarification into the Matter

The Dean of the Sion hospital, Dr. Pramod Inglel told reporters that there were special directives and they were fearing legal ramifications if they somehow conduct the funeral on their own since the relatives of the Coronavirus deceased patients were themselves in quarantine and therefore they are unable to claim bodies.

He said, “We have now removed the bodies and are probing the matter.” On asking about the bodies kept in ward, he clarified, “There are 15 slots in the hospital’s mortuary of which 11 were already filled.”

BMC called for a probe to check the genuineness and the facts of the video

The BMC is also held responsible for not issuing clear guidance on the handling of dead bodies. According to the Maharshtra Government’s giudelines the BMC had directed that bodies of the deceased have to be handed over to the relatives in the 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has formed a committee to verify the “genuineness and facts of the video”.

Work resumes for laying the foundation for Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after Yogi government’s nod

The first phase of construction work for laying the foundation of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, which was temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, begins after Yogi government allowing construction activity to resume during the lockdown. The clearing of the site is underway. The metal barricades erected around the makeshift temple and the CRPF camp at the site were removed on Thursday and levelling of the site has begun.

It is pertinent to note here, that in a set of guidelines issued on April 15, the central government had relaxed norms for resuming construction of roads, irrigation works and various industrial projects where workers are available on the site and do not have to be brought in from outside.

The first phase of construction had earlier begun on March 25, when the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had then gone to Ayodhya and participated in the “Pran-Pratishtha” rituals with saints and seers in Ayodhya city. He had also taken part in the ritual for shifting of the Ram Lalla idol to the new makeshift structure on March 2, just a day before Navratri.

SC’s landmark judgemnet on Ram Mandir

The Supreme Court, had in November last year, in a historic decision, accepted the Hindu claim and handed over the Ram Janmbhoomi site to Hindus to build Ram Mandir and finally end the century-long dispute. The five-judge bench had unanimously come to the decision after weighing the arguments presented by all sides for 40 days.

Autonomous trust to oversee the construction of Grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya

With the final verdict in Ayodhya case on 9 November 2019, the Supreme Court had ordered the government to form a trust for the construction of Ram Mandir within three months from the judgement day. The central government has constituted an independent 15 member trust- Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, to oversee the construction of Grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, after the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha on February 5.
