A campaign to vilify individuals, especially Muslims who stood for the integrity and values of the country, has now taken a new form with rabid Islamists backed by our ‘liberal-secular’ media openly demeaning them. A similar hatred campaign against former President APJ Abdul Kalam has now begun with Islamists and left-wing propagandists openly abusing him by writing derogatory articles to question his contributions to the country.
In its 17th February 2020 print edition, Outlook magazine has given space to one Omair Ahmed who has declared that former President APJ Abdul Kalam was no ‘hero’ of the country as he ‘merely obeyed his political masters’. Ahmed went on to question the heroics of one of our greatest scientists by asking is it because Kalam gave great ‘phallic symbols’ to the nation that he is celebrated as a hero in the country. Earlier, journalist Sagarika Ghose had also referred to Kalam as ‘bomb daddy‘.
According to Ahmed, the missiles which were developed by APJ Abdul Kalam represented ‘phallic symbols’. Shockingly, the writer, who seems to have radical Islamic thoughts, went on to make lewd comments by asking whether Kalam was a hero for the right-wingers of the country as he did not use his own ‘phallic symbols’. Former President was a celibate and he never married.
An article written by Omair Ahmed/ Image Source: Siddharth Zarabi.
Ahmed, whose only accomplishment in his life seems to be foul-mouthing successful individuals, goes on to declare that former APJ Abdul Kalam was no hero but was rather a weight and a burden forced upon the people to keep them silent and accept the status quo.
“The stories of heroes inspire; the tale that is told of APJ is only a weight, a burden forced upon a people to keep them silent and make them know their place so they never upset the status quo. He is no hero, merely a prophylactic against the rise of real ones,” writes Omair Ahmed.
It is no surprise today that a section of Islamists masquerading as intellectuals and ‘journalists’ are showing their true colours by openly exhibiting their radical beliefs. APJ Abdul Kalam, despite being a Muslim never openly displayed his religious identity nor used it to propagate his own faith upon others. For Islamists like Ahmed, Abdul Kalam’s expression of being an Indian rather than Muslims is never unacceptable.
When the ‘masterpiece’ written by Ahmed somehow made it to social media netizens questioned Outlook’s intent to publish such as baseless articles.
Following the outrage, Ruben Banerjee – the Editor-in-Chief of Outlook, stepped into the scene and claimed that it was an editorial oversight. He said they were carrying an apology for it.
Contrarian views are fine but it cannot become derogatory or personal. We at @Outlookindia did fail in our duty for which we sincerely apologise. pic.twitter.com/v8M8hWsaWn
“Our gatekeeping failed,” wrote the editor, while apologising for abusing Abdul Kalam, an event that seemed to be deliberate. Ruben Banerjee also claimed that they failed in their duty and apologised for the same.
Here is a question. If you stood at New Delhi Railway Station and spoke to 7000 randomly chosen people, how many BJP supporters would you meet? Going by the BJP’s 38.5% vote share in the just concluded election, a decent estimate would be around 2700 people. The real number, of course, could be a bit higher or a bit lower.
How much higher or lower could it get? Could it be that 6000 of them were BJP supporters? Could it be that just 1000 of them were BJP supporters? Both would be surprising.
How about this? What if there were just 5 BJP supporters among 7000 people you meet in Delhi. That sounds near impossible, right?
Well, it did happen. During the counting of votes on Tuesday.
Round 14 of counting in Mustafabad
These are the party positions after 14 rounds of counting at Mustafabad seat in Delhi. You can see that BJP candidate and sitting MLA Jagdish Pradhan has raced to a near 30,000 vote lead over his AAP rival. In an Assembly election, a lead of 30,000 would be considered fairly decisive. It would seem that Mr. Pradhan was on his way to retaining his seat comfortably.
And then something incredible happens between Round 14 and Round 23. Here is Round 19 for instance.
Round 19 at Mustafabad
In this round, AAP’s Haji Yunus has received 7904 votes to just 36 for the BJP! WHAT? How?
This trend continues all the way between Round 14 and Round 23. Each time AAP’s Haji Yunus piles on thousands of votes, while BJP struggles to hit even triple digits.
By Round 23 it is all over.
Round 23 in Mustafabad
AAP received 6878 votes in this round and the BJP just 5! AAP’s Haji Yunus has now taken a comfortable lead of around 20,000 votes over the BJP and he cruises to victory.
Is this a technical glitch? A fraud? Manipulation in counting of votes? Was the election stolen? If you showed this sudden and extreme change of fortunes to anyone, they would suggest rushing to the Election Commission to file a complaint.
But, of course, the BJP, which is the losing party here, did not complain. They weren’t even surprised. Surely that is because they understood the demographics of the area and expected nothing else.
After the BJP’s defeat on Tuesday, we have been exposed to endless gyaan about how AAP worked miracles in education and health. What was this 6878 to 5 result about? Can you say seriously that it was about education and health? Remember that the BJP candidate was leading by around 30,000 votes until Round 14. How much disparity in education and health could there possibly be within a single seat in Delhi that we get a North Korea style landslide of 6878 to 5 in favor of AAP candidate Haji Yunus?
Every Indian needs to know what happened in Round 23 in Mustafabad in Delhi. Because it tells us what really lurks under the surface of Indian secularism.
In principle, voting allows us to decide who governs us. But a closer look shows that the electoral process forces us to make all sorts of difficult choices. The most basic of these is there while we may care about many issues, we get just one vote. When you break it down by candidate and by issue, you realize that it’s a very complicated optimization problem. Also, there is the system. Do you vote for an MLA or a Chief Minister?
And then there are the unknowns. About a month after election results, people of Maharashtra found out that they had voted for a Congress government.
Similar problems would exist in every electoral system. More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton, but Donald Trump won anyway.
When you grapple with all these unknowns, you realize how fragile democracy actually is. And how easily it can be hijacked by single issue voters. Which is likely what happened in Mustafabad.
A group of dedicated people who care about one and only one issue can easily overwhelm the majority. AAP’s Haji Yunus probably has to do little on education and health and development. He knows his 6878 to 5 landslide victory has nothing to do with those issues. As long as he keeps his single issue voter happy, he is safe.
AAP’s Amanatullah Khan won from Okhla by a huge margin of almost 1 lakh votes. Is Okhla the most prosperous part of Delhi, with the best schools and hospitals? Probably not.
This is not just a Delhi phenomenon. Hyderabad is one of India’s top metros. Since 1989, it has been under the control of the Owaisi family that runs MIM. How can a vibrant metropolis be under the thumb of a party like MIM? Anyone will tell you that it’s because MIM controls the “old city” of Hyderabad. The old city area does not lead in education and health: in fact it is the poorest part of the city. But that matters little, because the area is full of single issue voters. On a side note, when was the last time you heard a liberal complain about the polarization that allows MIM to keep Hyderabad?
Yes, the people of Delhi wanted AAP this time. Even if BJP had won Mustafabad, there was no stopping Kejriwal. But elections come and go. Single issue voters stay exactly where they are. The rest of the public goes through mood swings. Ultimately, the single issue voter, who never changes their preference, will prevail. The system is designed to reward such behaviour.
Each time, the single issue voter tries to get a bit more space for their cause. Sometimes they may succeed in pushing ahead. Sometimes not. If their party doesn’t win this time, they wait at the same point for five years and try again. The takeaway is that they are never in retreat. Over time, they will prevail.
Think about Shaheen Bagh. The media has stopped covering them now. By all accounts, the supply of Biryani, whether ‘kudrati’ or otherwise, seems to have run out. But remember that this crowd watched and cheered as a mother slowly dragged the life out of her 4 month old baby. Day by day, bit by bit, slowly and painfully. The cheering crowd has no regrets. The mother has no regrets. In fact, she has become a hero. Absolutely chilling crime against humanity committed in cold blood. This is the level of commitment that the single issue voter brings to the table.
Perhaps you are not among the single issue voters. You may have different priorities. You might be willing to strike a compromise with the single issue voter for the time being. Fine, but remember that the compromise will always come from your end. Expect no compromise from the other side. If a mother is willing to part with the life of her baby for the sake of her cause, what could possibly make her change her mind? She has already beaten the strongest instinct in all of nature, drilled in by millions of years of evolution. You stand no chance of convincing her. The single issue voter will not move back one inch and will not stop until they win 100%. It may take five years or hundred years, but the single issue voter will prevail.

The unprecedented delay in the execution of the four gangrape convicts in the Nirbhaya case has left Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi and her family shattered. Alleging that the convicts were indulging in delay tactics, Nirbhaya’s mother broke down in court today which resumed hearing the plea of the state and Nirbhaya’s parents seeking issuance of fresh death warrant against the four convicts.
Delhi Court resumes hearing on plea of state&Nirbhaya’s parents seeking issuance of fresh death warrant against the 4 convicts.Nirbhaya’s mother in Court ‘what about my rights?I am standing with folded hands. Please issue death warrant.I am also human. It’s been more than 7 years’
With tears rolling down her face, Asha Devi on Wednesday pleaded before the judges that she has been waiting for more than seven years to get her daughter justice. “What about my rights? I am standing with folded hands. Please issue the death warrant. I am also human. It’s been more than seven years, begged Asha Devi before the court.
“I am wandering here and there to get justice for my daughter. These convicts are using delaying tactics. I don’t know why the court is not able to understand this,” furthered Asha Devi in court.
The Delhi court had on Wednesday offered legal aid to one of the four convicts, Pawan Gupta, after the convict’s lawyer in the court said that he will no longer represent him.
The convict’s father had asked the court to grant his son more time to arrange for legal aid. On this, the court said that everyone has the right to have legal aid till his last breath and adjourned the matter for Thursday, February 13.
Nirbhaya’s mother expressed displeasure on the court’s decision to give time to Pawan Gupta to arrange a legal aid for himself saying that this would further delay the process.
“I am losing faith and hope now. The court must understand the delay tactics of the convicts. Now if a new lawyer is provided to convict Pawan, he/she will take his/her own time to go through case files,” said Nirbhaya’s mother.
The Tihar jail authorities had filed a status report on Tuesday before the trial court which stated that no legal option was preferred by any convicts in the last seven-day period, granted by the Delhi high court.
Concluding that the four convicts cannot be hanged separately, the Delhi High Court had on February 5, made it clear that the convict must complete all his legal options in 7 days.
Merely 12 hours ahead of the much-awaited execution of the four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, the Patiala House court in Delhi on January 31 had once again directed the Tihar Jail authorities not to execute the four convicts until further notice. The execution was scheduled for February 1st at 6 am.
This decision had broken down Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi, who has been for the last seven year awaiting justice. She had then alleged that the convicts’ lawyer AP Singh pointed fingers at her and told her that the hangings have been deferred till eternity.
Blaming political parties and Arvind Kejriwal led state government for the delay in executing the convicts, Asha Devi said none of them are interested in implementing the court’s order.
Prior to this, parents of Nirbhaya had alleged that politics is being played over our daughter’s death. Badri Nath Singh, the father of the 2012 Delhi gangrape and mother victim, had said that the AAP government in Delhi came to power using the Nirbhaya case, and now they are again using the case for politics.
The four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case were sentenced to death by a trial court in September 2013, and the verdict was confirmed by the Delhi High Court in March 2014 and upheld by the Supreme Court in May 2017, which also dismissed their review petition in July 2018.
On 17th January 2020, the President had rejected the mercy plea of Mukesh Singh. After the President rejected the petition, Tihar jail approached the court for reissue of the death warrant. Accordingly, a Delhi court had issued fresh death warrants for the four convicts and ordered that they will be hanged at 6 AM on February 1.
The USA’s Central Intelligence Agency spied on several countries including India for decades through its secretly owned Switzerland based company that is trusted by the governments from all over the world for keeping the information of spies, soldiers and diplomats secret, according to reports.
The company Crypto AG was founded in 1940, which specializes in communication and information security as an independent firm. It entered into a deal with the CIA in 1951 and finally, the CIA owned the company in association with West German Intelligence in the 1970s, according to a joint report by Washington Post and German Public Broadcaster ZDF.
The Crypto AG supplied encoding devices to more than 120 countries from the era of the cold war to the 2000s. The CIA sleuths rigged the devices so that they’ll be able to get information to crack the codes. This way they harvested secret information from several countries, including India and Pakistan. BND, the spy agency in Germany (West Germany before the cold war ended) had also access to this data.
BND also owned a stack in the company, but they sold their share to CIA in the early 1990s, thinking that the risk of exposure was too great, and left the operation. But the CIA continued using the company for espionage up to 2018, when they sold the company’s assets.
For more than five decades, the company was trusted by the governments of all over the world regarding the privacy they expected to be safe. The company had an impressive clientele from all across the world.
“It was the intelligence coup of the century, Foreign governments were paying good money to the U.S. and West Germany for the privilege of having their most secret communications read by at least two (and possibly as many as five or six) foreign countries.” concluded the CIA report according to the Washington Post.
The report states, “From 1970 on, the CIA and its code-breaking sibling, the National Security Agency, controlled nearly every aspect of Crypto’s operations — presiding with their German partners over hiring decisions, designing its technology, sabotaging its algorithms and directing its sales targets.” After that, the U.S. and West German spies just sat back and listened.
The customers of the Swiss firm Crypto AG never knew about the secret ownership of CIA in association with West German Intelligence over it, neither they doubted the devices being rigged so that they can easily break the codes the countries used to send.
The US could not benefit from the operation against their main rivals Soviet Russia and China, as they were not customers of Crypto AG.
Protesters in a town in Madhya Pradesh took to streets to express their disapproval against the Congress-led government in the state for uprooting a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj allegedly in an outrageous manner in Sausar town in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district.
As per sources, Shiv Sena and some other organisations had written to the local administration, requesting them to install a bust of Shivaji Maharaj in Mohgaon Square intersection in the town. The Municipal Councillor visited the town after receiving the letter and earmarked a place for the installation of the statue. However, after experiencing inordinate delay from the administration in the installation of the statue, the organisations took it upon themselves to erect the statue at the designated place. The organisation constructed a platform on the said site and installed the bust themselves on Monday night.
When the local authorities came to know that the organisations installed the bust themselves, they tried to uproot the statue at night citing no administration approval to erect a bust at the said site. The authorities tried to demolish the statue with the help of a JCB which sparked outrage in the region.
The locals present at the site didn’t allow the bust to fall. As soon as the news of authorities trying to insultingly knockdown Shivaji’s bust ran through the town, a raft of people swarmed the site in protest against the administrative action. The gathered people also jammed the Chhindwada Nagpur highway.
The Chhindwara ADM Rajesh Shahi while speaking to ANI claimed that the bust was put up on the government land on Monday night without approval and it was subsequently stopped by the authorities.
“An authorisation has to be sought from the administration for installing statues. SDM Sausar had apprised me that some people are installing a statue without any approval. Later, a meeting with stakeholders including organisations who were involved in the installation of the bust was conducted and everyone agreed that due process will be followed for installing the bust,” Shahi said.
pic.twitter.com/7shlvhjLdq
Tweeting a video of the bust being removed, former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that Shivaji is the pride of the nation and his humiliation will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that if there were issues with the installation, it could have been removed respectfully. “But this government takes pride in insulting great men,” he added.
He also demanded that MP CM Kamal Nath should apologise for the incident and asked to arrange for installing the bust. He also questioned Shiv Sena, asking whether they will tolerate such an insult to Shivaji.
State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi has rejected the allegations, saying that JCB was used to remove the bust because the platform on which it was installed was very strong. He said it was placed in a haphazard manner causing disruptions in traffic. He assured that the bust will be installed in a respectful manner after completing due formalities in a proper place.
Local Congress MLA Vijay Choure said that Sausar municipality on Tuesday approved a proposal to re-install the bust at the same intersection.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will soon be constructing a temple of Lord Venkateswara Swamy in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, the UT government will soon allocate 100 acres of land to build a replica of the famous Tirupati temple near Jammu.
The TTD Executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal said on Friday that the Government of Jammu had already identified seven places for the construction of the temple. Suitable places for the temple construction work were finalized by a team of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials. However, a final conclusion on the place of construction was decided and soon, the construction work for the temple is set to commence.
As per reports, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has agreed to allot 100-acre land to TTD near Jammu-Katra highway for constructing a temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. TTD will be constructing a temple along with Vedic school and hospital in the minimum span of two years.
The TTD trust is also looking forward to constructing a Veda Pathshala in Kurukshetra very soon. Another Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple construction will be taking place in Mumbai too. The Maharashtra Government has already allotted land in Bandra where the temple will be constructed possibly at the cost of 30 Crores.
“We also met the Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir and explained the details of our project. It has been a long-pending demand of pilgrims from many North Indian States visiting Tirumala that a replica of the temple be constructed in Jammu,” an official of the TTD Board said after meeting J&K administration regarding the proposal. The TTD delegation met the officials following instructions from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
The delegation was led by Rajya Sabha MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy, who said that although TTD board will contribute, funds will also be raised from devotees to construct the temple, along with a Vedic school, a marriage hall and a hospital.
Singhal also stated that after Jammu, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is aspiring to construct temples in Varanasi, the popular pilgrimage and the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Construction of temples in Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, and Bhuvaneshwar the construction is underway. The TTD has constructed Sri Venkateswara Swamy temples in Hyderabad, Kurukshetra, and Kanyakumari which are functional and attract impressive pilgrim populations.
The TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy said that that the board has resolved to construct Lord Venkateswara temples in Varanasi, one of the holiest places and most popular pilgrim towns in the country. Reddy added that the board will write a letter to the government of Uttar Pradesh seeking allotment of land for the proposed temple of Venkateswara Swamy.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made a major discovery during the probe into the DHFL scam when they found software used by the Wadhawans to launder Rs 12,773 crore from the DHFL.
The ED discovered found out that Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan created shell companies to divert money from the NBFC they were investigating suspicious land deals related to the late Underworld gangster, Iqbal Mirchi.
The investigating team discovered that the software, installed in the main operating systems of DHFL, was used to create fake folio numbers and accounts, where the siphoned money was equally distributed. The total amount in these dummy accounts is almost close to Rs 12,800 crore.
The ED found that the software was specifically created for the purpose of hiding fake loans or the amount laundered through the NBFC from RBI and other agencies, indicating that DHFL’s promoters were directly involved in laundering money.
According to ED’s investigating team, the fake loan profiles or accounts created by the software are mainly residents of the slums as DHFL provided loans to SRA projects as well. The real people had no idea that their documents and profiles were misused by DHFL. Even the staff in government quarters have been listed as debtors of DHFL in the system. Hundreds of crores were laundered in their name without their knowledge.
Such was the creativity around this functioning of the software that it would distribute loan amounts in a pattern. For instance, if Rs 1 crore was to be distributed equally then the software would create some number of such fake accounts and distribute unanimously from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
The ED got access to the software after the arrest of Kapil Wadhawan, chairman of DHFL. Kapil Wadhawan is in judicial custody of the Enforcement Directorate till February 18.
As per KPMG forensic audit report, Enforcement Directorate has found Rs 12,773 crores laundered by DHFL and another Rs 20,000 crore remains untraceable. DHFL owes over Rs one lakh crore to multiple financial institutions, including a Rs 40,000 crore exposure to banks.
On February 7th, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team investigating the Iqbal Mirchi case had discovered a bigger case of money laundering, where DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan were the prime accused.
The India Today media group, one of the major media company in the country, on Wednesday stoked a controversy after they condescendingly referred to country’s ace Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand as ‘little known’.
On Sunday, International Olympic Committee had announced that Chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand had received an honourable mention in the prestigious 2019 International Olympic Committee’s Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the role he played in the development of the game in the country.
However, India Today group, who seems to have had some sort of discomfort over such prestigious recognition for Pullela Gopichand, chose to show their eliteness by referring to him as a ‘little known’ person. They referred to Gopichand as ‘the little-known India coach’ while sharing their report on Twitter.
The demeaning of Pullela Gopichand by India Today group, however, did not go well across the social media platforms. The netizens schooled the media group for its blunder.
Pullela Gopichand is a ‘little known’ Indian coach who has won Arjun awardee, Dronacharya awardee, Padma Sri, Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian sports, Right @IndiaTodayhttps://t.co/kLPqSG1wMc
The 46-year-old Pullela Gopichand is not only the country’s one of the greatest sports stars but also known for his extremely successful coaching career. During his playing career, he won the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championship becoming the second Indian to achieve this feat after Prakash Padukone.
After his retirement, Gopichand took up the mantle of coaching and also became the chief coach of Indian Badminton unit. During his coaching career, he has trained country’s badminton players including Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Sai Praneeth, Parupalli Kashyap, Srikanth Kidambi etc.
Under Gopichand’s coaching, Saina Nehwal went on to win the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics and PV Sindhu won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Pullela Gopichand has also received the Arjuna Award in 1999, the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan – India’s third highest civilian award – in 2014.
India Today group which is known for employing India’s greatest fake news expert Rajdeep Sardesai and fake sting video producer Rahul Kanwal perhaps needs to educate themselves regarding the contribution of Pullela Gopichand towards the development of Badminton as a serious sport in the country, which has brought great honour to India at global sports events.
A novel way of currency smuggling set the Delhi Airport authorities on their heels when a passenger was caught with foreign currency worth Rs 45 lakhs stuffed in peanuts, biscuit packets and meatballs by the CISF.
The clever ruse was unearthed when a passenger named Murad Alam was intercepted by security personnel on Tuesday evening on account of his “suspicious” behaviour when he reached Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport to board an Air India flight to Dubai.
A video of the interception was uploaded by the CISF on its official Twitter handle which showed security officials cracking the peanuts, opening the sealed biscuit packets and hauling out meat pieces to extract concealed cash rolled inside.

INR 45 lakh concealed in peanuts, biscuit packets & other eatable items kept inside his baggage @ IGI Airport, Delhi. Passenger was handed over to customs. pic.twitter.com/AJgO6x4WjN
CISF spokesperson Assistant Inspector General Hemendra Singh claimed that this was an ingenious and a peculiar way of smuggling currency. He added that when physical checking of the passengers’ baggage took place, high volume of foreign currencies were found hidden in cooked mutton pieces, peanuts, sealed biscuit packets and other eatables.
The approximate value of seized cache was Rs 45 lakhs which have been handed over to Customs authorities for investigation, Singh said.
