Congress Government in Chattisgarh cancels pension for those jailed during emergency under draconian MISA, says they were not victims

The Congress-led Chhattisgarh government has cancelled the monthly pension scheme for those jailed under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) enacted during the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977.

An order issued by the general administration department (GAD) on Thursday said that the pension started on August 5, 2008, by the then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has been cancelled.

Records show there are about 300 people who were getting benefits from this pension scheme across Chhattisgarh. Under the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan (MISA/Defence of India Rules detainees) Samman Nidhi Rule, launched in 2008 by the then BJP government, people who spent three months in jail under MISA provisions during the Emergency were given Rs 10,000 a month. Those imprisoned for six months got Rs 15,000 a month and those jailed for over six months got Rs 25,000. Under the rule, MISA detainees with no criminal cases were given pensions, and after their deaths, their wives were given half the amount.

In January 2019, when Congress came to power in Chattisgarh, the state government stopped the payments, after which beneficiaries moved to court. As the case still remains pending in court, on the 23 January the government scrapped the scheme leaving many angry and helpless.

“The pension was given to the people who fought for the democratic values during Emergency and by cancelling the pension scheme, the Congress government made it clear that they have no respect for democratic values, This is condemnable and we will knock the doors of the court”, Leader of Opposition, Dharmlal Kaushik, said.

On the other hand, Congress claimed that MISA pensioners were not freedom fighters.

Advocate Supriya Upasane, who represents the pensioners in the Bilaspur High Court, says, “The High Court had asked the government to pay the arrears. Instead of paying the money, they scrapped the rule. We will carry on fighting for the Samman Nidhi.”

Advocate General Satish Verma, who is representing the state government in court, however, says, “No court of law ever found them (beneficiaries of the scheme) to be victims. They protested, went against the law and were thus jailed. We are not under any compulsion to pay the pension. It was an earlier government’s decision and we have changed it.”

“The decision is clearly a revenge tactic by Congress. The government hardly needed Rs 8 crore a year for this pension. The felicitation money should, in fact, have been used to encourage the younger generation that is taking to the streets now. This is a meagre amount for the government but meant a lot for these old people. Taking it away is a bad decision by the government,” says Virendra Pandey, a politician who was earlier in the BJP.

BJP ups its ante in Delhi election, takes on Kejriwal over his much-hyped ‘Mohalla clinic’ project

After cornering the Aam Aadmi Party with its fact-checked video on Delhi government schools, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released yet another video, this time exposing Arvind Kejriwal’s flagship Mohalla clinic project.

BJP president JP Nadda on Thursday tweeted a video which claims the Mohalla clinics started by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi lack facilities, including medicines and infrastructure.

Sharing the video JP Nadda wrote: “Kejriwalji, you promised to open 1,000 Mohalla clinics every year. Whatever small number of clinics you opened lack even the basic facilities.”

JP Nadda’s tweet was soon retweeted by Home Minister Amit Shah saying that after education, now the “health revolution of Kejriwal government has been exposed”.

After education, now the health revolution of the Kejriwal government has been exposed. Will Delhi’s poor get their operation done here (Mohalla clinics)? For the sake of your selfish politics, you kept Delhi’s poor away from Modi Ji’s Ayushman Yojana. You have to give answers for the sin that you have committed,” Amit Shah tweeted.

Prior to this, in a response to the challenge given to him by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, HM Amit Shah had tweeted a video where 8 BJP MPs had visited Delhi schools to check up on the tall claims made by Delhi government.

AAP has touted its 2020 manifesto as ‘Kejriwal ka Guarantee Card’. Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that he will seek votes on the track record of his government’s performance in Delhi since 2015. He has also claimed that apart from Full Statehood, his government has delivered on all 70 promises made to the people. But reports reveal that AAP failed to deliver on 75% promises made in 2015.

As elections come closer, the battle between AAP and BJP is getting more intense by the day. Congress, however, is struggling to find relevance, with many people speculating silent support from the party to help AAP candidates win.

The national capital goes to polls on 8th February and the results for the same will be declared on 11th February.

Watch: Man opens fire near Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia during anti-CAA protests, one injured

A man opened fire outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi during the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He has now been taken into police custody and one individual has been injured. The injured man has been taken to the hospital for treatment. In a video that has surfaced depicting the scene of events, the man can be seen brandishing a gun and raising slogans that are not entirely audible.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo-2Z6kX2iE]

The man is currently being interrogated and he has been identified as one Gulshan (name changed). The Delhi Police is currently investigating the incident. The injured individual is a student of Jamia Millia Islamia and he was injured on his left wrist and the injury is believed to be not fatal. The man continued to brandish his gun as people continued to gather around him. Shockingly, journalists and others continued to walk toward the man brandishing gun threateningly even though they weren’t wearing any protective gear.

While the details are unclear on why the man was openly wielding the gun, people on Twitter are speculating that it may be staged to get back some legitimacy to the protests after Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam was arrested.

Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act have been extremely unruly and law and order has often been flouted by the protesters. Recently, a gun was brandished by one individual at the Shaheen Bagh protests. After the media initially tried to pin the blame on the BJP, it was discovered later on that the gun belonged to one Mohammad Luqman with links to the Aam Aadmi Party. It still remains to be seen who Gulshan is and whether he is associated with any political organization.

Update: It has been revealed that the suspect of Jamia shooting may be a minor. In accordance with relevant laws, his name has been changed after this revelation came to light.

The Congress party is destroying Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy more than Nathuram Godse ever could

Former Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi Parivar, has often relied on Nathuram Godse to attack Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It’s a familiar trope that is often repeated all across the media by the same set of individuals over and over again hoping that it will somehow stick. It hasn’t stuck thus far and it is unlikely that it will somehow in the future.

In order to draw a comparison between Godse and the Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi decided to play a psychoanalyst in Kerala on Thursday. But, as expected, tied himself up in knots. He began by saying that Nathuram Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi because he did not believe in himself and ended by saying that the Prime Minister is the same as Nathuram Godse because he only believes in himself.

Quite obviously, Rahul Gandhi isn’t much concerned about the words that come out of his mouth. He only seeks to repeat Nathuram Godse and Narendra Modi comparisons with enough frequency to make Godse relevant in today’s politics again.

In all of this, there’s a truth that needs to be said here. The murder of Gandhi was a reckless act by a deeply anguished individual in a moment of desperation. The partition of India was one of the most violent and traumatic events in human history. It was impossible at that point for the anger to not boil over and burn the leaders primarily responsible for the partition. Saying Gandhi shouldn’t have been assassinated is the same as saying all those people shouldn’t have been killed or all those women shouldn’t have raped. It’s quite obvious that all these things shouldn’t have happened but they did and it’s quite shameless for people to demonize an entire political ideology for the actions of one individual.

Mahatma Gandhi, for his faults, however, was, at the end of the day, a Hindu. It’s unfortunate that he wasn’t a Hindu of the same mold as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar or Bal Gangadhar Tilak or Shri Aurobindo but he was definitely a Hindu. And that is one thing that cannot be taken away from him. Yes, a lot of his ideas were crazy and unimplementable, some of them pretty disgusting, but his ‘Hindutva’ (Hinduness) is the one thing that cannot be denied. And yet, it is the one thing that has been robbed of Gandhi by the Congress party ever since his assassination.

Read: Three questions that should be asked and debated around Sadhvi Pragya calling Godse a deshbhakt

The Gandhi that most people know today is a hollow shell, a fictional character created by the Congress party for its political purposes. There is nothing ‘Hindu’ about the Congress representation of Gandhi, he has been secularized to such an extent that he is almost unrecognizable from how he actually led his life. Great pains were also taken to deny every similarity that he shared with Veer Savarkar despite the fact that there were many.

Mahatma Gandhi, for instance, had great respect for the cow and believed it was the duty of every Hindu to work for the welfare of Gau Mata. He staunchly believed that protection of cows is an “article of faith” in Hinduism. Not merely that, Gandhi believed that cow protection is the “gift of Hinduism” to the world. In fact, he considered Gau Raksha a sacred duty for Hindus worldwide. Unlike the Nehru-Gandhi Parivar, Mahatma Gandhi had great respect and love for the cow.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also worked immensely towards the welfare of the ‘untouchables’. He dedicated a great portion of his life towards the eradication of untouchability among Hindus. In this, he was similar to Savarkar who was against the evil practice as well and worked greatly towards eradicating the practice. Both of them worked against untouchability based on the philosophy of Hinduism. It was their Hindu values that motivated them to eradicate the evil practice. While Gandhi’s contribution in this regard is acknowledged, the contribution of Hindu Nationalists is often ignored, solely for political reasons.

It is also an undeniable fact that after partition was ensured, Mahatma Gandhi wanted India to provide a shelter for all the Hindus and Sikhs who were left on the other side of the border. It was an idea that was reaffirmed by the Congress party and Jawaharlal Nehru later on as well. However, that promise was fulfilled after nearly seven decades by a government which derives its ideological foundations from Savarkar.

Even his impractical and nonsensical pacifism, Gandhi borrowed from Hinduism and not some weird sense of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb. The entirety of Gandhi’s life was dedicated to achieving an ideal that he derived from the principles of Hinduism. Therefore, to deny him his heritage is the greatest disservice to his legacy. It’s also pertinent to remember here that Mahatma Gandhi and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar both wanted a Ram Rajya in India, it’s only that their vision of what constituted such a Rajya would have differed.

The Congress party, for its political goals, has chosen to rob Mahatma Gandhi of all his ‘Hindutva’. They have turned him from a misguided Hindu into an icon of minority appeasement politics. They have turned him from a misguided Hindu into an icon of anti-Hindu Secularism. They used his name to cloak their support for cattle smuggling. While they accuse others of undermining Gandhi’s legacy, the Congress party is the one that slaughtered a cow on the streets.

The truth of the matter is, Nathuram Godse fired the bullet that killed Gandhi but it is the Nehru-Gandhi Parivar that has done the greatest harm to Gandhi’s legacy. Inch by Inch, they turned Gandhi into a political figurehead rather than securing for him the pedestal of the father of the nation. It’s an entirely different matter altogether that the honour of ‘Father of the Nation’ was too big for Gandhi’s shoes but it’s a fact that the Congress party has tried hard to prevent him from belonging to the entire nation and attempted to restrict him to the petty politics of the country. For the Congress party, settling political scores is more important than honouring Gandhi’s legacy on his death anniversary.

Furthermore, the Congress party of today is so disassociated from Gandhi’s ideals that they support the very elements who are trying hard to undermine his legacy. For instance, the Congress party has given active support to the Shaheen Bagh protests, a Radical Islamic protest against India, the mastermind of which calls Mahatma Gandhi fascist. After seventy years, it is more clear than ever, the Congress party has done more to destroy Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy than Nathuram Godse ever could.

Assam: After historic peace agreement, 1,615 cadres of all four factions of NDFB lay down arms in Guwahati

Three days after the Union government signed a peace accord with different Bodo groups, 1,615 cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) on Thursday laid down arms in Guwahati.

Reportedly, 1,615 cadres of all the four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) surrendered their arms. In all, 178 sophisticated weapons and explosives were also deposited on this occasion.

The event was held at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Auditorium today. Assam CM Sarbanand Sonowal, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and many police personnel were present in the ceremony.

On Monday, the Government of India had signed a historic tripartite agreement with representatives of all factions of banned organisation National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and the Assam government.

Four factions of the NDFB were among the signatories to the tripartite agreement that sought a permanent solution to the Bodo issue. The Bodo students group All Bodo Students’ Union was also a signatory of the peace accord.

As per the agreement, the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with Bodo groups will pave the way for the reorganisation of areas under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region, enhance the powers of the BTC, increase Assembly seats from 40 to 60, rehabilitate surrendered militants of NDFB.

The agreement will also address concerns of Bodos living outside the BTC area, and promises to increase their representation in the state police and paramilitary forces. As per the peace accord, a financial package of Rs 1,500 crore will be given for the development of the Bodoland Territorial Region in the next three years.

Home Minister Amit Shah described it as the “final and comprehensive solution” of the long-standing Bodo issue. “Today, with this agreement, a permanent solution has been found for a problem that has cost the region 4,007 lives. The Bodo movement was peaceful in the beginning but became violent in 1986. A peace agreement was signed in 2003, but all groups were not on board. This time, all groups are here. This is an extension of that agreement,” he had said.

The recently signed tripartite pact was the third Bodo Accord signed in last 27 years. The violent movement for a separate Bodoland state took hundreds of lives. The first Bodo Accord was signed with the All Bodo Students Union, ABSU and Bodo People’s Action Committee in 1993.

In 2003, the second Bodo Accord was signed with the militant outfit Bodo Liberation Tigers, leading to the formation of the Bodoland Territorial Council, BTC consisting of four districts. The Assam Government has assured that the new treaty would not hamper the interest of the non-Bodo people staying in the BTC area.

Bodos are the single largest community among the notified Scheduled Tribes in Assam. Part of the larger umbrella of Bodo-Kachari, the Bodos constitute about 5-6% of Assam’s population.

After successfully signing an agreement with the Bodos, On Tuesday, the Assam government has also appealed to insurgents in Assam and Manipur, including the United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent (ULFA-I), to come on board for talks, saying it would usher peace and progress in the two states.

How Sharjeel Imam’s girlfriend helped them nab him according to Delhi police: Here is all you need to know

0

After arresting former JNU student and The Wire columnist Sharjeel Imam Tuesday from Bihar’s Jehanabad, the Delhi Police returned to the capital with him on Wednesday. Imam, who was booked in a sedition case, was produced in the Patiala House court in Delhi on Wednesday, which sent him on five-day police custody.

The Delhi police investigating the case, have now revealed that Sharjeel Imam’s girlfriend had played a major role in the Shaheen Bagh mastermind’s arrest. The Delhi Police laid a trap to nab Imam with the help of his girlfriend.

According to police sources, Delhi Crime Branch and Bihar Police tracked down Sharjeel’s brother, Muzammil at 4 am on the day of his arrest. On being interrogated Sharjeel’s brother gave out the information about one of Sharjeel’s friend named Imran, whom the police immediately took into custody. Imran further divulged that since the time Sharjeel had been on the run he was only in contact with his girlfriend.

Delhi police then approached Sharjeel’s girlfriend and pressurized her to call Sharjeel and ask him to meet her at Imambara near Malik Tola village. When Sharjeel reached the spot to meet his girlfriend, the police nabbed him.

Contrary to Sharjeel’s claim, the Delhi Police said that Sharjeel Imam ‘has not surrendered but he has been arrested’. Sharjeel Imam had taken to Twitter to write: “I have surrendered to the Delhi Police on January 28, 2020, at 3 pm. I am ready and willing to cooperate with the investigation. I have full faith in due process of law. My safety and security are now in the hands of the Delhi Police. Let peace prevail.”

The Delhi police today also revealed that Imam is highly radicalised and believes that India should be an Islamic state. Delhi Police sources to news agency ANI have said that he has admitted of giving the seditious speech he is accused of and has said that no tampering has been done with the videos.

As per the reports, the police is also examining his connections with Islamic Youth Federation and Popular Front of India (PFI). Further, the police inform that Imam has no remorse over his arrest. All his videos are being sent to the forensic science lab and his social media accounts are being examined, informed the police.

Imam, who masterminded the Shaheen Bagh road blockade to protest against the CAA, was arrested by Delhi Police from Bihar after multiple FIRs were filed against him for his seditious speech. Addressing a gathering at Aligarh, Imam had urged Muslims to come together and cut off the Siliguri Corridor aka the chicken’s neck, which connects the seven northeastern states to rest of India. He had also earlier made provocative speeches where he had asked Muslims to come out and block roads of India and bring it to a standstill so as to get international media attention.

Imam is also a columnist with leftist propaganda website, The Wire.

Interestingly, dreaded terrorist Zakir Musa was betrayed similarly by his girlfriend, which helped the Jammu Kashmir police to nab him leading to his encounter in May last year. Upset with being two-timed, One of Musa’s girlfriend had leaked information regarding his whereabouts to the agencies. This led to his precise tracking, following which he was killed in the encounter.

Moreover, Osama bin Laden, who had redefined the face of terrorism with the deadly attacks on America’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2011, was also allegedly betrayed by his first wife. The third and youngest wife of Osama, Amal had accused his first spouse, Khairiah of betraying the Al Qaeda chief and revealing his location in Pakistan to the US. Amal had described Khairiah as ‘the real killer of Bin Laden’.

Days before George Soros launched attack against India, his NGO Open Society Foundations filed plea in Delhi HC against Modi government

The controversial NGO – Open Society Foundations (OSF), funded by billionaire George Soros has moved the Delhi High Court against the Centre’s decision to place it under a “watch list” for funding NGOs and associations that are not registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

Reportedly, the controversial NGO, which often interferes in India’s internal affairs by funding ultra-left wing activists and other NGOs in the country, was put under the watch list or “prior permission” category in 2016. However, the NGO moved the Delhi High Court against the government only this month.

In its plea, the Open Society Foundations has sought to know the reasons for which it was placed under the list and why no prior notice was served to them.

Interestingly, the OSF moved the High court days before Soros launched an attack against Indian government at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos claiming that the actions of the Modi government in the Kashmir Valley and the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 are the “biggest and most frightening setback” to the survival of open societies worldwide.

In fact, Soros committed $1 billion towards fighting nationalism and nationalists as he attacked the nationalist government in India.

Following the plea, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the RBI on January 10. Justice Rajiv Shakdher asked the MHA and the RBI to respond within two weeks and fixed March 12 as the next date of hearing.

Any NGO that expects to receive foreign funds has to mandatorily register under the FCRA. The MHA can place any NGO under ‘watch list’ and impose restrictions if NGOs are found violating rules. The restriction means the donors are not allowed to directly send money to NGOs or associations without clearance from the MHA.

The MHA informs to the RBI which then asks banks to alert any transaction to the accounts of the beneficiary NGOs from the foreign donors and seek prior clearance from MHA before the funds are released. There are more than 20 foreign donors under the government’s scanner right now.

There are more than 20,000 NGOs registered under the FCRA currently in the country. The MHA has cancelled registration certificates of around 14,500 associations for various violations and non-filing of returns from 2014-19.

Open Society Foundation (OSF) and interference in internal affairs:

Open Society Foundation, managed by influential Jewish-American philanthropist George Soros, has a history of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries through his network of NGOs.

We at OpIndia have extensively documented the work of NGOs that have received donations from Soros’s Open Society Foundation (OSF). The beneficiaries of the funding from OSF have extensively involved in shaping the mainstream ultra-left wing narrative and often engage in ‘judicial activism’ that seeks to use the courts in order to undermine Indian national interests.

Countries like Hungary and Russia, realising the impact of such nefarious designs of Soros and his NGO, have taken concrete steps directed towards curbing his influence in their internal matters.

In addition to that, George Soros, through his network of NGOs, has connections with a cultivated class of intellectuals who work resolutely towards opposing the Modi government. There are some prominent names with extensive links to George Soros but it is extremely unlikely that these connections will surprise anyone. Some of the most prominent among them are Harsh Mander, Indira Jaising and Amartya Sen.

George Soros has a tremendous influence on American media, especially organizations include the Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press, NBC and ABC. Soros has spent millions to influence media for influencing people in India through their anti-India coverage. The western media has traditionally held a bigoted view against India, have found enough support from the anti-India financers such as Soros and its results were evident during their recent coverage on Article 370 and anti-CAA riots.

Shaheen Bagh mastermind and The Wire columnist Sharjeel Imam’s seditious speech well planned, he has no regrets: Delhi Police

The Delhi Police interrogation of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam has revealed that Imam is highly radicalised and believes that India should be an Islamic state. Delhi Police sources to news agency ANI have said that he has admitted of giving the seditious speech he is accused of and has said that no tampering has been done with the videos.

As per the reports, the police is also examining his connections with Islamic Youth Federation and Popular Front of India (PFI). Further, police informs that Imam has he has no remorse over his arrest. All his videos are being sent to forensic science lab and his social media accounts are being examined, informed the police. As per reports, he said that the speech doing rounds on social media is not its full length. The police believe that his seditious speech was well planned and not in the heat of the moment.

NCP leader and Maha minister says Indira Gandhi strangulated democracy, Congress fumes

NCP leader and Maharashtra minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, Jitendra Ahwad has stated that Indira Gandhi had ‘strangulated’ democracy. In a statement that could annoy the alliance partner Congress, Ahwad stated that the former PM had strangulated democracy when she imposed emergency.

As per reports, speaking at a rally in Maharashtra’s Beed, Ahwad was attacking the BJP government in a rally against the CAA and NRC. Former Bombay High Court judge BG Kolse Patil, activists Teesta Setalwad and All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Abu Talib Rahmani were also present in the rally.

Ahwad stated, “Indira Gandhi had also strangulated democracy, nobody was ready to speak against her. Then the students of Ahmedabad and Patna had started resisting, eventually starting the Jayaprakash Narayan movement that saw her defeated. That history will be repeated in Maharashtra and the country too.”

As it happens, criticising any former Congress leader offences the Congress, even if the critic mentions facts. Soon after Ahwad’s remarks, NCP’s alliance partner and Maharashtra PWD minister Ashok Chavan shot off a warning to Ahwad, stating that ‘disrespect’ of any kind to their party’s leaders will not be tolerated.

“Indira Gandhi is known all over the world for her dedication and duty, she had laid down her life for the unity and integrity of the country.” Acknowledging Ahwad’s clarification, he further added, “If anyone disrespects our leaders, a correct answer will be given.”

However, expecting retributions from his new allies, Ahwad soon posted a video singing praises for Indira Gandhi, counting her great deeds. Though the video was posted as an answer for BJP’s Kirit Somaiya, it mentioned that Indira Gandhi did great things for the country and even though she imposed emergency which saw a backlash, he(Ahwad) is a supporter of Indira Gandhi and there can be no comparison between her and Modi-Shah.

The MVA’s alliance government in Maharashtra has been experiencing such war of words and ideological friction almost constantly. Recently, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had angered his Congress partners when he said that Indira Gandhi used to come to Mumbai to ‘meet’ underworld don Karim Lala. Raut had added that during that time, the man for the Mumbai police commissioner’s job used to be selected by these dons.

Raut had later backtracked on his words. Perhaps fearing backlash from the Gandhi family, Raut had soon stated that he has a lot of respect for the former PM and his remarks were distorted.

Arvind Kejriwal lies: AAP Supremo had promised 15 lakh CCTV cameras for Delhi more than once during 2015 elections

Ahead of Delhi assembly elections, AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who had earned himself a monicker of ‘u-turn’ owing to the countless number of times he backtracked on his promises, is upping his ante and outright rejecting he had ever made such promises. One such promise has been about 15 lakh CCTV cameras he had promised to Delhi ahead of 2015 elections.

In his townhall with media house News Nation, Arvind Kejriwal, when asked about 15 lakh CCTV cameras promise made in 2015 claimed that he never made such a promise.

At around 14:32 in the above video, one can see Kejriwal responding to the question on promise of 15 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi. The News Nation journalist asks whether he had ever made a promise of installing 15 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi. Kejriwal very confidently says, “never”. He says, “We had promised that we will instal as many cameras in Delhi as needed and we have already started the work.” The journalist then asks Kejriwal where the 15 lakh figure came from. Kejriwal dismisses it by saying Home Minister Amit Shah has conjured up the figure on his own.

Read: Delhi govt led by Arvind Kejriwal failed to deliver on 75% promises made: Detailed analysis of all 70 promises made in 2015

Except, it is a big, fat lie. Kejriwal has not only promised 15 lakh CCTV cameras, but he has reiterated the promise more than once.

Kejriwal’s 15 lakh CCTV promise

During 2015 AAP Manifesto release, Kejriwal had listed out various steps his government would take to ensure women’s safety should they be elected to power.

At around 12:30 in the video, Kejriwal says 10-15 lakh CCTV cameras would be put up across Delhi. “If for Barack Obama’s visit to India we could put up 15,000 CCTV cameras in Delhi, then for the safety of our mothers and sisters it is a very small thing to install 10 to 15 lakh cameras,” Kejriwal said back in 2015.

He reiterated the same promise at another point in time.

At around 1 minute 8 seconds in the video, Kejriwal had again promised he would instal 10-15 lakh CCTV cameras across Delhi.

Perhaps he may want to reconsider who really is the ‘jhooth ki factory’ here.
