Official Twitter account of LensKart turns troll, posts tweet against NRC

On Sunday, the official Twitter handle of Lenskart, India’s leading eyewear business company, put out a controversial tweet in reply to Prajwal Busta, Member of Himachal Pradesh State Planning Board, who questioned the doublespeak of Shaheen Bagh protestors.

She had highlighted how those who refused to show documents were willingly displaying their Voter IDs while standing in queues outside polling booths.

In defence of the Shaheen Bagh protestors, Lenskart tweeted, “These documents are not of 1950, Miss Prajwal.”

Lenskart turns "troll", speaks against NRC and draws the ire of Netizens
The contentious Anti-NRC tweet has now been deleted.

The “reference to 1950” was a jibe at the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process that was first conducted in Assam in 1951. This anti-NRC tweet irked several Twitter users who called out the company for its tweet.

It may be noted that Prajwal Busta didn’t tag LensKart or any other handle in the tweet, she had only included few hashtags in the tweet, along with a photograph of voters in front of a polling booth. Still the official Twitter handle of LensKart chose to respond to the tweet with a controversial tweet.

Journalist Kanchan Gupta accused the company of deliberate misinterpretation of the Citizenship Amendment Act that has fuelled protests in Shaheen Bagh. He suggested his followers to avoid using the company’s glasses.

A user who goes by the handle, @Jal_Kukdi, took a jibe at Lenskart and suggested that they themselves need better quality spectacles to avoid misreading things.

Miffed by the contentious tweet, a Twitter user (@sanjeevpathak2) dropped his plans to buy a new set of spectacles from the company.

Another Twitter user (@Chandan_tndn) wrote that companies such as Ola and Snapdeal can now sympathise with Lenkskart for being at the epicenter of social media backlash.

This is not the first time that such a prominent establishment has come under the scanner for controversial tweets. Earlier, an Islamist by the name of Khurshid Zenia tweeted in support of the rioters in Jamia Millia Islamia from the official Twitter handle of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

Delhi Elections: Congress concedes defeat? Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury says if Kejriwal wins it will be due to focus on development

The Delhi elections concluded yesterday and the results will be declared on 11th, but the Congress party seems to have already given up. Weighing the issues on the basis of which his party and its opponents fought the elections, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday said that if Kejriwal wins, it will be a victory for the development agenda.

“We fought this election with all our strength. In this election, BJP put forth all the communal agendas whereas Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Ji put forth developmental agendas. If Kejriwal wins, then it will be a victory of the developmental agendas,” Chowdhury said.

The motormouth Congress leader added that if BJP loses the Delhi Assembly elections, the communal agenda will also end with the party’s defeat.

“BJP brought all its leaders here and kept shouting ‘Shaheen Bagh’ and on the other hand, Arvind Kejriwal kept saying- Mohalla Clinic and spoke about other works as well. Congress tried to convey a message that long-term development was witnessed during the term of former Delhi CM Shiela Dixit,” he added.

Further speaking about BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari’s statement showing confidence over his party’s victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, Chowdhury said that daydreaming is his fundamental right but BJP won’t win the Assembly polls.

“We know that he sings and dances really well but elections are something way more different than that. He can daydream…that’s his fundamental right but it will still be a dream. BJP won’t win in Delhi Assembly polls,” Chowdhury said.

The Delhi elections concluded on Saturday evening. The Exit polls gave a landslide majority to Aam Admi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal. While the Exit polls show that BJP may improve its tally, AAP is the clear winner in the state. Axis poll which is telecast by India Today, in fact, predicted the Aam Aadmi Party to win 63 seats, and the BJP to win seven seats. The Congress, just like in 2015, is unlikely to win any seat in the 70-member Delhi assembly.

AAP minister Kailash Gahlot’s brother named in FIR filed after Delhi police seize alcohol smuggled inside Delhi for distribution among voters

0

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has named Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot’s brother Harish Gahlot in an FIR registered in a case of smuggling of alcohol. Harish Gahlot was allegedly smuggling illegal consignment alcohol inside Delhi before the polling of Delhi Assembly Elections 2020 on Saturday, February 8. The FIR was registered under sections 33, 38 and 68 of the Delhi Excise Act, 2009.

The Excise department had reportedly seized a pickup truck with bottles of alcohol with ‘for sale in Haryana only’ printed on it on February 6, from Old Dal Mill Complex, village Mitrau, Nafarganj, News Delhi, merely 2 days prior to the polling in the Delhi Assembly elections. Two persons, Ravinder Singh and Virender Singh were arrested along with the vehicle. These suspects have now revealed before the Delhi Crime branch that the alcohol was being supplied on the directions of Kailash Gahlot’s brother Harish Gahlot.

Notably, the AAP minister Kailash Gahlot also represents the Najafgarh constituency of New Delhi and the sitting MLA from the constituency. Gahlot is also the Transport & Environment minister of Delhi. Further investigation revealed that these illegal consignments of liquor were being smuggled into Delhi to be distributed in the elections.

The FIR says that the liquor was to be distributed during the Delhi elections at the behest of Aam Aadmi Party leader Kailash Gahlot’s brother and Harish Gehlot. It says that the liquor was to be distributed among the voters to influence them.

Although the FIR has been filed against Ravinder and Virender, it mentions that they were transporting the 15 cartons of liquor on the instructions of Harish Gahlot. Each carton contained 48 quarter bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL). Police have seized and sealed the cartons, after taking one bottle from each cartons as sample for testing.

Liquor was reportedly being supplied by Haryana Liquor Barron Balbir Mann. Balbir is the owner of an L1 liquor shop in Gurgaon.

Copy of FIR registered against AAP Minister Kailash Gahlot’s brother

At the time when liquor was seized, Harish Gehlot was not present there. Briefing on the issue, the Delhi Police Crime Branch officials have said that a notice will be issued to Harish Gehlot soon. While the police might arrest Harish Gahlot, AAP minister Kailash Gehlot may be summoned for questioning.

The two brother’s Kailash and Harish Gahlot have had a very intriguing past. Last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had seized assets worth Rs 1.46 crore belonging to Harish Gahlot, brother of Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA Kailash Gahlot. As per the investigation initiated under FEMA then, Harish Gehlot had allegedly held assets worth Rs 1.46 crore in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which was in violation of section 4 of the FEMA.

In October 2018, the I-T Department had seized assets worth Rs 2 crores which included unaccounted jewellery worth Rs 28 lakhs and Rs 37 lakh in cash from AAP MLA Kailash Gahlot and his wife.

Moreover, in the past, it was alleged that Kailash Gehlot had misbehaved with a female IAS officer and insulted her in front of subordinates. The statement also claimed that the minister threatened to have the officer implicated in false cases.

It is interesting that a minister with such contentious past not only represents the Najafgarh constituency of New Delhi on AAP ticket but also remains to be a cabinet minister of Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government.

AAP disappointed as Exit polls show BJP losing? After predicted AAP sweep in Delhi, AAP leaders allege EVM tampering, questions EC

The Delhi elections have finally concluded and the Exit Polls show a thumping majority for Aam Admi Party. Exit polls have predicted that while BJP may increase its tally, AAP is set to sweep the elections hands down. However, in a strange turn of events, AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Saturday, after the predicted win of AAP, alleged EVM tampering in Delhi by sharing some videos on Twitter.

Sharing two videos, AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that voting machines were being taken away illegally.

“Does the reserve (forces) not go with the EVM? This official was caught with an EVM by people at Saraswati Vidya Niketan School in Babarpur assembly constituency,” tweeted Sanjay Singh.

Right after the Exit polls and the reported surge in voting post 4 PM, Sanjay Singh, meeting AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said, “EVMs that should be taken directly to the strong room after getting sealed, are still with some officers. It is an incident of Babarpur. A similar incident is being reported from Vishwas Nagar”.

It is rather interesting that AAP would allege EVM tampering when the Exit Polls show an AAP sweep. Either AAP itself does not believe that it could win with those numbers, or they are covering their base just in case the surge in voting results in BJP bettering their tally.

The Election Commission has refuted these baseless allegations.

EC has said that all the EVMs used for polls have been sealed in front of the party agents and have been brought to the strong rooms directly from the polling stations.

“All EVMs that were used for the polls have been accounted for. EVMs have been stored safely with police protection in centres and party agents are also allowed to stay outside the centre if they wish”, an EC official has reported having said.

Following up on their allegations of EVM tampering, AAP has also started fear-mongering and raising questions on the EC. It has asked why the voting percentage hasn’t been released and ‘what is cooking’ behind the delay.

AAP’s shenanigans with the EVM are not new. One recalls how Saurabh Bharadwaj, the AAP MLA had conducted a grand show of ‘hacking an EVM’ by opening and playing with a toy prototype machine inside Delhi assembly. The MLA, whose affinity towards science fiction was confirmed when he had blamed the death of homeless persons in Delhi on intoxication rather than the coldwave, had then decided to go global. He had Tweeted that he had met the opposition leader of a country called ‘Bostwana’ (Botswana) and assured them that he will help them prove the vulnerability of EVMs in their highest court.

Blaming EVMs for every lost election has become the easiest excuse for political parties. Despite the ECI explaining multiple times that tampering is not possible in EVMs, political parties never miss an opportunity to raise questions over a constitutional body and undermine the public mandate, insulting the very ethics of democracy bitterly every time the results are not in their favour. A few vested interests have even tried to propagate the idea internationally and insult India’s firm democratic system.

A number of countries have shown interest in purchasing and adapting India’s EVMs into their national elections. The ECI has already announced that all commission will ensure 100% coverage under VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) to ensure transparency and reliability.

Taliban terrorist who had shot Malala Yousafzai escapes from prison, releases audio accusing Pakistan govt of not honouring “agreement”

0

Taliban terrorist leader Ehsanullah Ehsan, who had shot the controversial Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai for campaigning for female education in Pakistan’s Swat Valley in 2012, has reportedly escaped from a prison in Pakistan.

The story of his escape came to light after an alleged audio clip was released by the former Taliban spokesperson, confirming his escape. Ehsan who had surrendered to the Pakistani forces on February 5, 2017, has complained that the law enforcement failed to deliver on its promises made to him. This motivated him to escape from the confines of the Pakistan security agencies.

Ehsan alleged, “I followed the agreement for about three years. But these shrewd security institutions put me in prison along with my children in violation of the agreement.” The Taliban leader did not reveal his location but stated that he would announce his future plans in the upcoming days. It is important to mention that the authenticity of his audio clip had not been verified by the Government of Pakistan.

Ehsanullah Ehsan said in the audio clip that he escaped on January 11. According to reports, Ehsanullah Ehsan escaped during an operation against terrorists being conducted on the basis of information gathered from him. Reportedly he has escaped to Turkey, Pakistani authorities are still silent about the news of his escape.

The Taliban leader was also responsible for the terrorist attack in Peshawar Army school in 2014 that resulted in 149 deaths (including 132 children). The mass shooting was executed by 8-10 suicide attackers who wore paramilitary Frontier Corps uniforms and shot mercilessly inside school classrooms.

Reportedly, parents and family members of the victims have now filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court seeking contempt of court proceedings against government officials over reports of the Taliban leader’s escape.

Malala Yousufzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Winner, has often being accused of staying silent on the plight of religious minorities in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In 2019, she came under the scanner for peddling fake news about a Kashmiri girl not being able to write her exam, owing to the lockdown post the abrogation of Article 370.

Kashmir: Senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar becomes the latest politician to be booked under the Public Safety Act

On Saturday, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Naeem Akhtar was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He will be lodged in M-5 hut that is located on Gupkar Road in Srinagar. Akhtar who served as a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition governments was earlier detained under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

He is now the 6th leader in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to be booked under PSA. On Wednesday, PDP politician Muhammad Sartaj Madni and National Conference (NC) general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar were detained under the said Act.

Former Chief Ministers of the erstwhile state, namely, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were also detained under PSA on Wednesday, hours after the expiry of their “preventive” detention period. This was done keeping in mind their vehement opposition to the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A. The dossier accused Mufti of being “pro-militant and pro-separatist.” National Conference has condemned the move by the Centre and called it “atrocious.”

The Public Safety Act was introduced in 1978 under which a person can be detained for 2 years without a trial. The amendments made to the Act in 2012 reduced the detention period from 2 years to 6 months for first-time offenders. Having said that, the provision to extend the period of detention to two years was left open.

However, two NC politicians Tanvir Sadiq and Mubarak Gul had been shifted to their residences from the MLA hostel sub-jail. Omar’s father and NC President, Farooq Abdullah, was the first politician to be booked under the said Act in September 2019.

Recently, the Public Safety Act dossier against the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba mufti has suggested that she was collaborating with separatists underlining her provoking tweets and remarks made against the army and pro-terrorist in public rallies.

The dossier is including Mehbooba Mufti’s provocating speeches and the tweets in which she’s calling for violence like the one, “no one will remain alive to unfurl tricolour in Jammu and Kashmir if 370 goes”. Also threatening the central government, she had said ” if you won’t understand, you will be finished. Even your story will not be in history”.

Afreen Fatima, aide of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, advocates for terrorist Afzal Guru yet again: Read how

0

The JNU student and Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam aide Afreen Fatima after calling terrorist Afzal guru ‘innocent’, has once again taken to Twitter to advocate for the 2001 Parliament attack convict.

Sharing an article published in Caravan Magazine dated January 15, 2020, written by the far-left propagandist journalist Arundhati Roy, infamous for support towards Jihad in Kashmir and Naxals, Afreen Fatima took to Twitter to appeal to ‘revisit’ Afzal Guru’s verdict ‘again and again.’

On Twitter, she wrote: “Revisit, again and again. Read the verdict, again and again. Never forget.”

Notably, Afreen Fatima is the same Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader, who, in a viral video shared on Twitter recently, was seen spewing venom against the government as well as the Supreme Court. She was seen challenging the integrity of the country’s highest judicial body by raising doubts over its crucial decisions like that on Ram Mandir and hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru.

In a 45 sec video posted on Twitter by user @knewschannel on January 25, 2020, the JNU student had tried to instigate the crowd by saying that while protesting against CAA and NRC they have realised that neither the government nor the Supreme court is worthy of their trust.

Claiming that SC’s judgement on parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was wrong, Fatima insinuated that terrorist Afzal Guru was ‘innocent’. She was heard saying that Afzal Guru had no hand in the Parliament attack.

JNUSU Councillor Afreen Fatima had also vociferously spoken in favour of Sharjeel Imam who had made calls for North East India to be cut off from the rest of the country when the Union had condemned his arrest and labelled it a case of ‘Islamophobia’. JNUSU claimed that the BJP wants to ‘criminalize’ Muslims. The radical Islamists had taken to Twitter to trend ‘ReleaseSharjeelImam’ after he was arrested by Delhi Police over his seditious speech.

Sharjeel Imam, the Shaheen Bagh mastermind and columnist with The Wire, was arrested from his ancestral home in Bihar by Delhi Police earlier in the day. Delhi Police had filed an FIR on Sunday against Imam, who is also a columnist with leftist propaganda website The Wire, under IPC section 153 for giving provocative statements with intent to cause riots. Earlier, Assam Police had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Sharjeel Imam. The UP police were also hunting for Imam for a speech made in Aligarh Muslim Univerisity.

Left hates voters who don’t ‘obey’ and the fickle, unruly mistress called Democracy. Non-Left should avoid this vice like the plague

It is said that any election is decided by the ones who show up, and by the very nature of democracy, any political system works as a revolving door. The corridors of power see many footprints where ecosystems rise and fall at the will of the people, where rulers bite the dust and from the ashes, other rulers, for better or worse, emerge. The will of the people reigns supreme – again – for the better or worse – but the will of the people reigns supreme nonetheless.

In India, especially, democracy has a 24/7 job. Every election cycle ends with the beginning of the preparation for the next election cycle. After the 2019 General elections, we have had elections in several states, with many more to go before 2024 General elections. After the results are declared for every election, in a society which has now been divided on the basis of ideology, whether one agrees or not, there is one section of the population for whom democracy ‘lives’ and another, for whom democracy ‘dies’.

However, to the credit of the non-Left, they have been far more gracious in accepting the people’s mandate compared to the Left. The Left often blames people, calls the majority population ‘Hindu extremists’ assuming that only Hindus voted for the BJP and that every Hindu who did, is an “extremist”. They cry, whine, abuse, blame the system, blame democracy, curse the mandate, curse the people, curse the leader, evoke Nehru and Gandhi and the Holy Pope even to express their angst. Their angst mainly revolves around the fact that the people who voted BJP refused to agree with them or fall for their propaganda.

The non-Left, thankfully, simply dust themselves off and prepare for the next battle. At least traditionally, they did. Any party focussed on the Hindu cause and one that does not either control or bow to the Left ecosystem has tasted long bouts of electoral loss. Only recently, have the political bells starting tolling in favour of the BJP, that has traditionally, been aligned with the Hindu cause. With political power and streaks of unprecedented victory, the non-Left has started mirroring the Left in their response to defeat, thankfully, not completely.

Read: Delhi elections: 69% Muslims voted AAP as they thought it could to defeat BJP, 91% Muslim voted against BJP

The Delhi elections have just about concluded and the Exit Polls are out, which give a sweeping majority to Aam Admi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal. Axis poll, in fact, revealed that according to their survey, 91% Muslims voted against BJP. According to the pollster, 68% voted for AAP, 15% for Congress and only 9% for BJP. The reason Muslims rallied behind AAP was to categorically defeat BJP.

Post the Exit polls, there were several from the non-Left who proceeded to dissect why Delhi voted the way it did. While many were measured, several others spoke about how Delhi voters were selfish, short-sighted and merely cared about freebies that Kejriwal was distributing and not the larger civilisational issues that stand to lose if AAP comes to power.

One particular video on the same lines stood out. It was Zee News editor Sudhir Choudhury talking on his show on the channel.

In the video, Sudhir Chaudhary was heard saying that the Delhi junta did not care about civilisational issues like the Ram Mandir, Article 370 or even the Balakot strikes but only spoke big.

While the Left does not have the right to outrage as their meltdown is essentially far worse, toxic and mindless, there are several problems with this line of argument that many on the non-Left seem to have taken.

Firstly, the results are not out yet. There is speculation that the Exit Polls accounted for votes cast only till about 3 PM or 4 PM and since there was a massive surge in the voting post that, the results could be different from what the Exit Polls show.

However, if the Exit polls do hold and indeed, it is AAP that sweeps Delhi, there is no denying that it would indeed be tragic, considering the brand of politics played by the party and its MLAs.

In the run-up to the Delhi Assembly polls, Muslim-dominated areas of Seelampur saw unprecedented violence led by Muslim mobs to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Delhi was the epicentre of the anti-CAA riots, which later spread to different parts of the country. The Muslim mob in Delhi’s Seelampur had unleashed the violence against public infrastructure and pelted stones at the police injuring many of them. The violent protestors had even attacked school buses in Delhi’s Seelampur area.

There have been serious allegations against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP for instigating riots in Delhi by inciting Muslim mobs against the Modi government ahead of the Delhi assembly elections under the guise of protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which has nothing to do with Indian Muslims.

Shockingly, Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal has given tickets to people who are associated with instigating riots in Delhi during the anti-CAA riots. AAP has fielded Abdul Rehman to contest from New Delhi’s Seelampur constituency in upcoming elections. Rehman along with ex-Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed has been named in an FIR by Delhi Police for ‘provoking the crowd’ to join the protests.

Read: Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protests funded by Islamist PFI, chief Mohammad Parvez Ahmed’s links to AAP’s Sanjay Singh and Congress’ Udit Raj emerge

Amanatullah Khan has been booked for instigating the riots as well. In fact, when one rioter was arrested, it was Khan who created a ruckus in order to get him released.

There is absolutely no denying that if the Exit polls do hold true, Delhi voters got swayed by local issues like free rides, electricity etc and elected a party that has indulged in extremely dangerous politics with media doing its bidding.

However, if there were any cardinal rules when it comes to politics, there would be two – Don’t slam the voters into the crapper and develop a stomach of steel.

If the supporters of BJP or opposers of AAP believe that the Delhi Janta made a whoopsie, the mature way forward is to introspect and come up with a strategy to communicate that to them. The question to be asked is from the party and the support base as to where they went wrong and what their strategy lacked they could not convince the voter of Delhi that AAP is dangerous for their asperations and security.

Calling the voters names is the last resort of a defeated, spent force like the Left, not a rising behemoth like the non-Left.

It is true that that ancient civilisation of Bharat is under attack from all quarters. With the Sharjeel Imams and Amanatullah Khans talking about breaking the country, turning India into an Islamic state and even causing riots by the very thought of a few thousand persecuted Hindus being given citizenship. But the Great Civilisation of Bharat, the destiny of Hindus, is not, and cannot be dependant on one party winning every election.

While Civilisational issues cannot be dependant on one party winning every election, it is equally true that the assertion of civilisation issues and their important made AAP change their strategy. One has to realise that it is because of Hindus asserting themselves that Arvind Kejriwal had to recite the Hanuman Chalisa and visit the temple, much to the dismay of the Islamists. He even had to disown Sharjeel Imam, who was squarely used by and close to Amanatullah Khan.

Read: India: A land with Hindu consciousness, which will forever be a natural home for Hindus

The desperation of AAP was such, that they even allegedly sent their party leader, Kapil Gujjar, to seemingly stage a mock shooting in front of Jamia. The desperation was such that now, there are links between PFI and AAP leader Sanjay Singh have emerged.

While all of this when seen in isolation, makes AAP a dangerous party. But when seen in confluence, one realises that the break-India support that AAP received was covert while their change in strategy to pander to Hindus was overt. 6 years ago, to imagine that the collective voice of Hindus could wield the electoral power to even affect this strategy change was unfathomable. It is now, however, a reality.

The fight for a Bhavya Ram Mandir lasted 500 years. It took 70 years to get a thumping political majority for Hindus. It took exactly that much time for Hindus in politically independent India to reach a stage where their collective might can make an assertion of Hindu identity overt and blatant Islamist covert. For far too long, it was the other way around.

To measure this fight by the defeat in one electoral cycle is not just unfair, but politically immature. While the non-Left needs to imitate the Left as far as how they raise their collective voice and the shamelessness with which they wear their ideology on their sleeve, being tear-jerkers and angry losers like them are not something that needs replication. One set of crazies are more than what this country deserves.

The Left hates voters when it doesn’t agree with them, hates India and wants to rip it apart and hates democracy because it is a fickle, unruly mistress. The non-Left is made of sterner stuff, with a foundation of love for the civilisation. The bitterness that the Left thrives on is something that the non-Left must not fall for and avoid like the black plague it is.

Electoral politics is like a scurrying ras – fast, directionless, short-lived. The Civilisation of Bharata, that has survived for thousands of years, like an imposing Elephant – slow, measured, calculated and dangerous when angry. The anger the non-Left displays today should be better reserved to fight the forces that are consolidating to challenge the very foundation of our existence.

Uttar Pradesh: Police arrest the assailant who had shot Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha chief Ranjeet Bachchan following a short encounter

0

A week into Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha chief Ranjeet Bachchan’s murder in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area, Uttar Pradesh police on the midnight after Friday (February 7) nabbed the alleged shooter, following a short encounter.

The arrested assailant, identified as Jitendra, was set to cross the border and flee to Nepal when the Uttar Pradesh police laid a trap on Lucknow-Kanpur road to nab him. He was caught by the Police officials when he had come to a relative’s house in Lucknow’s Charbagh region to collect cash.

At the time of the arrest, the Uttar police seized a .32 bore pistol from his possession, which also matches the description of the murder weapon.

A short encounter between the Uttar Pradesh police and Jitendra transpired after the suspect’s bike was intercepted and stopped around 12.30 am near a checkpoint. He was asked to show his bike’s registration papers. However, Jitendra opened fire at the officers and sped.

He was once again intercepted by another police team. As Jitendra again opened fire at the team, an officer shot him in the leg, because of which he fell off the bike and was finally caught.

The Lucknow Police Commissioner Sujit Pandey, following the arrest of deceased Ranjeet Bachchan’s second wife and two others on February 7 had said: “Those involved in the murder are Smriti Srivastava (second wife), her friend Deependra, Sanjeet Gautam (driver) and Jeetendra (the shooter). Deependra was the person who convinced everyone to commit the crime. Smriti was part of the whole conspiracy. We arrested Sanjeet Gautam from Lucknow, Deependra has been arrested from UP-MP border and Smriti has been arrested from Vikasnagar (in Lucknow),” said the police commissioner.

Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha chief Ranjit Bachchan was allegedly killed because he was “delaying” the proceedings to divorce his wife Smriti Srivastava, who wanted to marry her lover Deepender. According to Pandey, Smriti Srivastava confessed to police that Ranjeet Bachchan was stalling their divorce proceedings by not appearing in court.

Twelve teams were formed to arrest the accused persons, the police commissioner said, adding that efforts were underway to arrest Jeetender, the shooter. Earlier, four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were suspended for laxity.

“Do not want to implement NPR and NRC in the state”: Maharashtra home minister says govt is exploring legal options to block NPR

The Maharashtra government is exploring legal options not to implement the National Population Register (NPR) in the state. State’s home minister Anil Deshmukh said that the government is checking with the legal department as to how it can avoid issuing notification for NPR that is supposed to be conducted along with the Census in May-June.

He said that he has also been making repeated requests to the Anti-CAA agitators to call off their protests as NPR and National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be implemented in the state. The State Home Minister said that none in Maharsharta will be harassed over their “citizenship status.”

Anil Deshmukh made it clear that the state government does not want to implement both NPR and NRC in the state. On being asked whether a notification regarding NPR would be issued, Deshmukh said that the government was yet to make its final decision.

NPR is a part of the Census and was earlier prepared between 2010-2011 in Maharashtra along with entire India when the Congress government was in power. On the other hand, the union government has already clarified that there is no plan to implement NRC at the moment in the country.

Read- “NPR is the first step to NRC”: Congress, not Home Minister Amit Shah, said it first back in 2011

Anil Deshmukh is a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) that is allied to the Congress and the Shiv Sena in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Shiv Sena Supremo Uddhav Thackeray had earlier supported the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) but voiced its opposition to both NRC and NPR. The Congress has, however, vehemently opposed the CAA ever since it was passed by the Parliament.

This confusion stems from a lack of ideological similarity in the coalition government. Despite the common greed for power, the contradiction in each party’s stance in the Maha Vikas Aghadi is stark. On Friday, Shiv Sena had dumped its ally, Congress, and backed its opponent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Delhi Assembly elections held on January 8.
