Uttar Pradesh: Congress worker who drove Priyanka Gandhi Vadra without wearing helmet challaned for Rs 6100

On Saturday, after Lucknow Police stopped Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on the way to meet ‘anti-CAA activist’ ex-IPS officer SR Darapuri’s family, she hopped on to a two-wheeler which was being driven by a Congress worker and whizzed past.

Neither the rider, a Congress worker, nor the pillion rider Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were wearing helmets, thereby breaking traffic rules. As per reports, the Congress worker has now been challaned with a penalty of Rs 6,100 for breaking the rules. Darapuri was arrested from his Lucknow home on December 21, a day after anti-CAA riots broke out in the city. The UP administration has also issued notice to Darapuri to recover the cost of damage to public property.

When petrol-bombs replace placards, it is no more a student protest. It is by all means a political conspiracy

“Well, the rebel has arrived”, paints Kunal Kapoor on the walls of an old fort. The year was 2006 and the scene was from a movie ‘Rang De Basanti’ which went on to give the youth its anthem: Lose Control. The youth has a distinct character. It has always been attracted and infatuated by the idea of revolution and challenging the status quo. And being a rebel “for with a cause” has been the DNA of youth since time immemorial.

But, this very idea of revolution tends to misguide the youth when captured by the vested interest. The current protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is perfect example of youth being misled in the name of revolution by vested political interest.

A law that tends to provide support and relief to persecuted minorities from the three neighbouring Islamic countries, enacted after being duly passed by parliament after following all procedures established by law has become a reason for nation-wide protest because of selfish political interest that sees it as an opportunity to uproot a democratically elected government and that too in the name of democracy.

Read: Rana Ayyub sensationalises Muzaffarnagar anti-CAA riots, alleges RSS members of attacking Muslims, UP Police calls her bluff

The narrative underlining the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a labyrinth of concocted facts, false rhetoric and an extremely fake concern for democracy. It is nothing more than a political opportunism in its worst form that is not shying away from using students as guinea pigs. It is a political conspiracy hatched by those who were snatched of their “entitlement” after the country choose to honour its democratic ethos in real terms in 2014. To understand this one just needs to unravel the happenings in the last one month and compare it with other student protests.

In 2016 following the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar arrest (for indulging in anti-national activities) there was a huge unrest in the JNU campus and some other campus across the country. There were usual rallies, anti-government sloganeering but none of it manifested in violence of the kind that was witnessed during protests in Jamia Millia Islami in Delhi this month.

Similarly, following the death of Rohith Vemula, a PhD scholar at the University of Hyderabad some of the university witnessed protests. But, here again at no occasion any violence, leave alone the kind that was witnessed in Jamia Millia Islami was registered.
It needs to be highlighted that when patrol-bombs replaces placards, it is no more a student protest, it is by all means a political conspiracy.

When a group of men and women resort to extreme measures like arson and violence, targeting police and state, it cannot claim it to be a student protest. It is by all means an act of terror and anyone resorting to act of terror will be dealt by the state in the same fashion as terrorists are dealt with. They cannot claim the compassion and courtesy, safety and safeguards provided to a bona fide students.

The second strand of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a complete disregard of minimum decorum required for a dignified dissent. How, would you react when you see a millennial protesting against a law holds a placard that reads, “Are you still virgin? Me too, let’s fuck the government”.

You know the protest has lost the plot.

The third strand of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) manifest in extreme hypocrisy and doublespeak. How do you react to the fact that those happily seeking your identity proof for entering a comedy show rants that “Hum kagaz nahin dikhayenge” to the government?

The fourth strand of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is underlined by extremely laughable ignorance of protesters which reminds of the comedy scene from the Hindi film ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ in which protestors are clueless about their demands and reason for demonstration.

How do one react to full-time celebrities and part-time bleeding heart activists protesting against a laws that they are completely ignorant about?

Read: Low IQ Bollywood entertainers in their mad rush to appear ‘concerned secular citizens’ end up spreading falsehood, endorsing Pakistan

During a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when a reporter asked Actor Farhan Akhtar about the reason for the protest he responded by saying “If you go into the details, it looks like there can be something in there… If everything was okay, why would so many people be concerned?”

But among these various strands that include laughable ignorance, indecency, pitiable hypocrisy, the most dangerous is the first one that tries to masquerade this political conspiracy as a “youth unrest” or a student protest. And exposing it should be a duty of every youth of the country.

Andhra Pradesh: Four arrested in Temple Town of Srisailam for ‘actively propagating Christianity’

0

Four Christians were taken into custody in the Temple Town of Srisailam in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh for “actively propagating Christianity” in contravention of existing laws. They were booked under Section 3 of the Andhra Pradesh Propagation of Other Religions in Places of Worship or Prayer (Prohibition) Act, 2007 (Act 24 of 2007). The Act provides for three years of imprisonment or Rs. 5000 penalty or both.

The accused have been identified as M Timothi, a native of Vuyyur in Krishna district, Praveen, a native of Amrabad in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana State and M Jashuva and M Peter of Sunnipenta in Kurnool district. They allegedly performed the prayers on Friday but the matter came to light on Saturday. They were taken into custody by the Police based on the complaints filed by the locals.

The accused were found holding bibles and conspicuously reading out passages at Rudra Park in Srisailam on Friday. They were produced before the Nandyal court, which has remanded them to judicial custody. Of them, Peter was held under the same Act for a similar offence in 2018. That case against him is pending in court, Atmakur DSP Venkatrao said.

Earlier also allegations of non-Hindu activities in the temple town had emerged. In September this year, a vehicle reportedly canvassing Christianity was found by Hindu devotees. The vehicle had flex banners across the bonnet containing text from the Bible.

Local priests say that the entire hill town is part of the sanctum sanctorum and is sacred, and people from other religions are not allowed to propagate their faith in the area. Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga Temple is located in the town and is one of the holy pilgrimage site for Saivism and Shaktism sects of Hinduism. The Srisailam town is classified as both Jyotirlinga and Shakti Peetha.

Earlier, it was reported that experts have expressed their concerns regarding the spree of freebies doled out to the Christian communities by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Andhra Pradesh government. The freebies are not only causing a loss of public money, but these appeasement schemes are also aimed at encouraging ordinary Andhra citizens to convert.

Not happy that I can’t buy land in Kashmir, Kashmir Pandits and Buddhists in Ladakh are discriminated against: Indira Gandhi in 1981 letter

A letter written by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to New York-based Dr Nirmala Mitra expressing her unhappiness on Article 370 and treatment of Kashmiri Pandits and Buddhists in Jammu & Kashmir has been doing rounds across social media. Dr Mitra is a pediatric neurologist, and a former Director of Kashmiri Overseas Association in USA.

In response to an earlier letter written by Dr Nirmala Mitra to late Prime Minister in December 1980 regarding the treatment of Kashmiri Pandits and Buddhists in Jammu and Kashmir, Indira Gandhi on January 8, 1981, wrote that she was too unhappy that she could not own small piece of land or home in Jammu and Kashmir due to Article 370 despite the fact that her forefathers came from the same land.

New Jersey based Rakesh Kaul, who claims to be the friend of Dr Nirmala Mitra, on Sunday shared the letter written by Indira Gandhi to Mitra sympathising for the cause of Kashmiri Pandits and Buddhists living in Jammu and Kashmir, who were discriminated by controversial Article 370.

Interestingly, Indira Gandhi in the letter also revealed how she could not take up the issue as both ‘Indian press’ and ‘international counterparts’ was busy depicting her as authoritarian that made it much more difficult to “do necessary things”.

In the end, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi wrote that Kashmiri Pandits and the Buddhists in Ladakh are being unfairly treated and discriminated.

When asked regarding the authenticity of the letter, Kaul said that the letter was 200 per cent genuine. He added that Dr Nirmala Mitra is a totally credible doctor who had met Indira Gandhi. In his tweet, he was ready to state facts and fight the conspiracy theorists on this issue. He also said that he has other correspondences on the issue.

Diary of a Delhi Liberal: Our comrades try to beat up Sanghi goons even as fascism rises in India

Dear Diary,

We are well and truly in the Nazi era now. Our voices are getting suppressed, we are being shut down, we are being asked to pay for the damages inflicted by us during our peaceful protesters, everything straight out of Hitler playbook. You know how Hitler fined violent protesters after the protesters set fire to Berlin, same thing happening in Lucknow now diary.

Read: Congress releases video to show how police manhandled Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, proves it was her goons that heckled lady police officer

Police is topping peacefully protesting citizens from burning them alive. Nobody can throw stones freely any more. Police is putting a fine on innocent people who had gone out for a walk or to buy milk or to just go out an smoke, as you generally do in the middle of a riot. We have appealed to moderate BJP leaders like Narendra Modi or Amit Shah diary, but even they are scared of fascist Bisht. Our fellow liberals are living in fear in Uttar Pradesh diary, their situation is worse than Somalians right now.

The fascism isn’t just restricted to UP now diary, it has spread all over the country. Our comrades in Kerala were given no state support when they tried to assault Sanghi CM from Karnataka. The Police completely disappeared from the scene when we attacked that fascist goon, they must be scared of the fascist forces but our comrades still tried their best to beat that Sanghi. Staying in Kerala diary, renowned eminent notable scholarly historian Irfan Habib was stopped from attacking the Sanghi Kerala Governor. We thought Kerala is liberal, but these clampdowns on our freedom of speech are making us think otherwise diary.

Not all doom and gloom diary, our liberal Congress friends continued to work hard to spread positive vibes. In Rajasthan, 2 people were arrested for objectionable Facebook posts, as one should do to fight fascism. In Kota, population control measures have been undertaken on a large scale and we can already see the results. In Mumbai, generous Shiv Sainiks offered free hair cuts to anyone found insulting neo-liberal Uddhav Thackeray Ji. Heartening to see such positivity in this fascist era.

We are still in New York diary, it is tiring to have such long vacations but the spirit of protests in Lucknow keep us going. We will not be defeated, we will not bow down to fascism, we will take to the streets and fight these fascists. Now we are going down to the pub to have a few drinks so until next week, ciao!

From mobilizing people for blood donation to crowdfunding for a humanitarian cause to a selfless prayer for a daughter battling life: The real face of Right on social media

0

Charles Leadbeater, author of ‘We Think: The Power of Mass Creativity’ famously wrote, “You are what you share”. Social media which is one of the most potent and popular manifestation of ‘mass creativity’ and mass interaction is unpardoning in one respect and that is “what you share”.

Jure Klepic, a specialist in digital media was spot on when he said, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas; what happens on Twitter stay on Google forever!” Seconding what Klepic said I reiterate here what I often say at social media workshops: You can escape your destiny, not your social media post. So, be sure of what you write and write with a certain amount of attention and with a large amount of conviction.

As stated above social media, especially Twitter is an unpardoning space. There are people who are ready to bite you for a little disagreement. There are umpteen voices on social media and that is what makes it a place of deliberation and that naturally calls for a great amount of tolerance. But, the problem arises when those claiming the virtue of tolerance tend to brand the contrarian point of view as dogmatic, prude, intolerant, sell-outs just because it does not suit their narrative.

It is no more a hidden fact that social media is largely divided into ideological lines that can be loosely categorized as the ‘Right’ and the ‘Left’. It is a fact that there is no meeting-point between the two, which often results in strong disagreements leading to what we call ‘war of words’.

It is all fine till here. I don’t agree to a certain point of view and I am opposed for holding mine. The problem arises when their contradicting my point of view is marked as “debate” and mine as “trolling”. The problem arises when their fight is eulogized as “duty” and “fight for democracy” and mine is rejected as “trolling”. The problem lies in marking any attempt by the Right to push forward their point of view on any issue as trolling by “IT cell for 5-5 rupees”.

The conventional medium of communication and intellectual discourse be on it on the subject of economics, politics and history was dominated by Left for all these years, yielding no space to contrarian point of view. Why that happened is altogether a different story that will require a separate article, but because it happened, the space for a contrarian point of view was complete diminished by what I call the “intolerant left”.

But now, the Right on social media—which is a unified group of serious thinking people—are using this free space for popularizing the ideas that are in the national interest. As stated earlier Right on social media is a unified group of serious thinking people believe that this space should be used to listen, to engage, and to build relationships.

And, because of this belief, our pursuits on social media go beyond building opinion that serves the national interest and exposing those sinister ideological agents who are here to break the nation. Our pursuits on social media go beyond challenging the “tukde tukde” gang who wants to divide the country. It tries to bring people together for a cause that helps us restore our faith in humanity.

It stretches from mobilizing people for blood-donation to crowdfunding to creating a thread of prayers for a father whose daughter is battling for life after meeting an accident. If you have to understand the intent and content of the Right on the social media you have to look beyond “5-5 rupye waale IT cell waale log” type of a narrative build by the so-called “progressive Left”.

Alok Bhatt, a selfless volunteer from Uttarakhand was going through tough times when during Durga Puja this year, her wife and 9-year-old daughter met an accident. No, sooner the news broke out on Twitter, thousands of people started posting their prayers, tweets were shared to arrange for any help required by Bhatt. And this continued for two months till the daughter was back home, fully recovered.

One of the twitter users made an appeal: URGENT: Reaching out to my friends in Dehradun! @alok_bhatt wife and daughter met with an accident yesterday at Rajpur Road and are critical! They need support. Kindly see in your network in Dehradun who can help with O-negative blood Alok Bhatt.

No sooner this appeal was made messages and calls started flooding from different corners of the country. This is the true face of the Right on social media that needs to be acknowledged.
From spreading the message to help find a missing girl from Kolkata to arranging blood for a patient in Bihar, the Right has been always up to this task in this regard.

Consider these tweets:

n July 2019, an innocent man was killed by a group of people which the Left would have termed as lynching if his name was not Gopal. Gopal, a ‘gau rakshak’, was shot dead by cattle smugglers on July 30 while he was chasing their vehicle on a bike after being tipped off about cows being smuggled.

The mainstream media that would have otherwise marked this tragedy as “death of democracy” and “idea of India” did not care to highlight it. So, the Right took the charge of helping the family of the deceased. Through crowdfunding around Rs 40 lakhs were raised for Gopal’s family.

These examples are not an attempt to self-praise our work but only to highlight the selfless initiatives of lakhs of ‘Right-thinking’ people which normally goes unnoticed.

Social media is a great place of sharing ideas, but at the same time, it is also a place that is used by people with vested interest to promote their sinister motives. Our, job is to challenge them, demolish false narratives. But it is important to remember this place can also be a great instrument of promoting a humanitarian cause that Indian Conservatives and Right are rightfully doing.

NPR manual does not list Islamic festivals for a specific and valid reason, not for imaginary anti-Muslim bias of Modi govt: Read details

There is no end to baseless allegations against the National Population Register and the Narendra Modi government claiming that the NPR is anti-Muslim. The latest to join the same is a page from the NPR manual listing some important festivals of India, which does not mention any Muslim festival. Several people are posting the screenshot of that page on social media alleging that the Modi government has removed important Muslim festivals from a government document.

Social media users shared the image noting that it does not contain major Islamic festivals like Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Adha, Moharram and Milad un Nabi. They alleged that it is a clear signal of the outcome of the NPR, which is disenfranchising crores of Muslims.

Milli Gazette, a radical Islamic media house, also made the allegation that “fanatic Hindus in power are ruining India like grasshoppers are attacking crops in north India”. They mentioned that all Muslim festivals have been removed from the list of Indian festivals.

Although it is correct that the Annexure V of the NPR, which contain some Indian festivals and the month in Gregorian calendar in which they take place, does not include any Muslim festival, there is a specific and valid reason for that, and it has nothing to do with any imaginary anti-Muslim bias of the NDA government. The Muslim festivals are not mentioned because they don’t serve a specific purpose in the NPR exercise like the other festivals mentioned in the list do.

Annex V of NPR Manual 2020
Annex V of NPR Manual 2020

The festivals are mentioned in the NPR instruction manual to help guess the month of birth of person if someone remembers the year of birth but can’t recall the month. In section 4.9 of the manual titled Questions under NPR, question 5 deals with recording the date of birth of people. Under it, section c states that if the only year of birth is known, the enumerator should ask in which season that person was born, and if the birth took place near a festival. If the person or the family can tell that such a person was born near such a festival, the enumerator can use the corresponding month in Gregorian calendar to record the same as the month of birth. For this reason, two months are mentioned against several festivals, as those Indian festivals took place in either of the two months.

NPR Manual 2020
NPR Manual instructions for month of birth

Now, the Islamic festivals take place according to Islamic lunar calendar, and their corresponding month in the Gregorian calendar changes every year. On average, the date of Islamic festivals gets advanced by 2-3 weeks every year, which means after every 1-2 years they take place in the previous month. As the Muslim festivals do not take place in a particular month in the Gregorian calendar, they do not help in identifying the month of birth of a person.

Read- “NPR is the first step to NRC”: Congress, not Home Minister Amit Shah, said it first back in 2011

On the contrary, the list in the NPR manual contains events that take place as per Gregorian calendar or Hindu solar calendar. Even if the Hindu calendar is not the same as the Gregorian calendar, the months of Hindu festivals don’t change beyond one month. For example, the Durga puja takes place either in September or in October, it does not fall in any other month. While some other festivals, like the Bihus in Assam, although they take place as per local calendar, they always fall in the same month in the Gregorian calendar.

Therefore, the festivals mentioned in the list help in identifying the month of birth if the same is not known. But the Islamic festivals do not help in this regard. Even if someone says that he/she was born during Ramjan, for example, the enumerator will need the Islamic and Gregorian calendar for that particular year to find out the month, and a one-page ready reckoner will not help. This is the reason why the NPR manual does not list Islamic festivals to be used as a guide to find an unknown month of birth.

It may be noted that the same list was also included in the manual for NPR in 2011 which too didn’t include any Muslim festival. In the manual issued for the 2011 NPR during the UPA government, the list was included in Annexure-III, and the same festivals are mentioned in the current manual.

NPR manual 2011
Annex III of NPR manual 2011

It may be noted that the few festivals are mentioned in the list for the convenience of the enumerators, it is not a comprehensive list. People who don’t know their month of birth can mention other festivals of local importance, or other incidents like a well-known natural or man-made disaster to point towards the month, and there is no bar on using such events to record the month of birth.

Kerala: Jamia ‘Shero’ Aysha Renna heckled by Communists, forced to apologize for comments against CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Jamia ‘Shero’ Aysha Renna, during her visit to Kerala, made comments against the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. As a consequence, the face of the Jamia protests who had earlier called India fascist for executing terrorist Yakub Memon was forced to apologize before the public by the cadres of the Communist party.

Aysha Renna had earlier demanded that CM Pinarayi Vijayan releases Jamia Milia Islamia students who she said were arrested by the Communist government in Kerala. She had said on Saturday, “We are going to witness the emergence of the minority or the Muslim Bahujan politics. We want Chandrashekhar Azad (Bhim Army Chief) to be released immediately.” She added, “In last two weeks, a number of students from Jamia Millia Islamia have been arrested and jailed by the Pinarayi Vijayan govt and his police. We demand their immediate release.”

Following Aysha Renna’s comments, the cadres of the Communist party had protested against the comments she made and demanded that she issue an apology.

Read: Barkha Dutt’s ‘shero’ Aysha Renna deactivates Facebook account after being exposed as terrorist sympathiser

In the video that has now gone viral, one can see an agitated audience demanding an apology from Renna. Renna could be heard saying that there should not be any internal conflict ‘between us’.  Renna tells the audience that what she said on Pinarayi is her opinion. To that, one person says, “What opinion? You cannot say that opinion.” Another man yells at her, “Your own opinion should be told at your home, not here.”

A calibrated effort had been made to project Aysha Renna and her friend, Ladeeda Sakhaloon, as the faces of a new movement against Narendra Modi. However, it appears that efforts are not paying rich dividends and not even the Communists are too fond of her. Ladeeda had even called for Jihad ahead of the Jamia protests which eventually turned violent and led to mob violence across the national capital.

TTD to construct temples of Lord Venkateswara at Jammu and the Prime Minister’s constituency at Varanasi

Grand Temples of Lord Venkateswara will be constructed at the newly created Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and in the sacred city of Varanasi, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has decided. The TTD has also sanctioned an amount of Rs. 30 crore for the construction of the Sri Venkateswara temple and information centre at Bandra in Mumbai. The decision was taken by the Board on Saturday.

“Varanasi is also a world class pilgrim town in the country and TTD will soon construct a Lord Venkateswara temple there soon. We will write a letter to the Uttar Pradesh state government seeking land allocation for the proposed Lord Venkateswara temple,” TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy told reporters. He added, “Requests have also been pouring in from Jammu to construct a TTD temple there. Today we have resolved to build a temple at Jammu too and we will write to the Jammu government to allocate land to TTD to construct a temple there.”

The TTD has also decided to float a cyber security department in collaboration with the state police to tackle misinformation against the institution spread by miscreants. ”We have noticed that some miscreants are resorting to a smear campaign against the TTD by spreading lies and misinformation on religious matters quite often. In order to effectively tackle this online smear campaign and crack the whip against the guilty behind the act, TTD will soon float a cyber security department”, stated YV Subba Reddy.

Exactly a month after former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his mother and current Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi gave a cold shoulder to Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray and skipping attending his swearing in ceremony despite the reluctant ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ coalition, Rahul Gandhi today attended Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren’s swearing in ceremony.

Hemant Soren’s swearing in ceremony was also attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. DMK President MK Stalin, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and AAP’s Sanjay Singh were also present.
