Congress buckles under pressure: Releases new poster of I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s leaders, deletes Rahul Gandhi, adds Arvind Kejriwal

On Wednesday, August 30, after facing severe backlash from its so-called alliance partners, Congress deleted the poster it released showing Rahul Gandhi leading the I.N.D.I.A. alliance and came up with another one that included Chief Ministers from Opposition-ruled states. In the new poster, Congress deleted the picture of their blue-eyed boy Rahul Gandhi and instead shared pictures of Chief Ministers from Opposition-ruled states including that of AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Yesterday, the Congress party stirred up a hornet’s nest after its social media team released a poster featuring prominent leaders of the opposition bloc to take on the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The poster, released ahead of the meeting of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance of the opposition parties in Mumbai today, had Rahul Gandhi on the centre stage leading the political squad, skipping AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal from the poster.

The now-deleted poster Congress released ahead of ahead of the meeting of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance of the opposition parties in Mumbai

Notably, the alliance poster released by the Congress party features images of several leaders – Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Hemant Soren, Mallikarjun Kharge, Uddhav Thackeray and Sitaram Yechury among others. Conspicuously, Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal are missing from the alliance poster.

The poster did not go down well with the alliance members especially the Uddhav Thackeray section of Shiv Sena which asked Congress to delete the post with the poster. The party further threatened to tear down the poster if it is seen in Mumbai.

BJP leader Shezad Poonawala also took a dig at the Congress and set off fresh speculations about the cohesiveness of the opposition alliance coming together to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Insinuating that Congress and AAP have taken ‘political divorce’, he asserted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was accurate in predicting that the alliance will fall once the Delhi Services Bill becomes an act. Additionally, he also touched upon the unceasing ambitions of each alliance partner within the I.N.D.I.A. for Prime Ministership.

Later the Congress party deleted the poster from its social media handles and released a new one that included photos of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.

I.N.D.I.A. bloc gather in Mumbai for third meeting

The opposition bloc INDIA will be holding its third meeting in Mumbai on Thursday and Friday to discuss its plans for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The alliance is likely to announce a coordination committee, a logo, and panels to draft a common minimum programme of the alliance. The agenda also includes seat-sharing discussions and setting up a secretariat, to enhance the coordination between all the member parties. It is also speculated that more regional outfits will be joining the alliance during the two-day meeting.

‘Ghamandia meeting’: BJP takes a dig at I.N.D.I.A. alliance of the opposition parties

Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson for the BJP, lambasted the opposition I.N.D.I.A. group, claiming they were complicit in scams totalling crores of rupees. Additionally, he referred to the I.N.D.I.A. meeting in Mumbai is a game of musical chairs between the rival parties.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s national headquarters in Delhi, Sambit Patra said, “You all know that GM (Ghamindia meeting) is taking place in Mumbai. These parties have done scams and corruption worth Rs 20 lakh crores”.

He further said, “This ‘musical chair’ between the opposition parties doesn’t need any explanation. Such opposition meetings are not new to us, be it 2014 or 2019.”

The BJP leader also called I.N.D.I.A. a ‘selfish alliance’ and said it is an “alliance of compulsion, not strength”.

“The meeting of ‘Ghamandia Gathbandhan’ is going to take place in Mumbai today. These parties have done scams and corruption worth Rs 20,000 lakh crores. It’s a selfish alliance… Their agenda is maximum profit from corruption,” the BJP spokesperson said.

OpIndia Exclusive: Kishan attacked and abused for giving a lift to his neighbor Muslim girl in Ahmedabad, Akbar, Faizan, and Hussain arrested after video goes viral

In the last week, multiple instances surfaced where non-Muslim youths were subjected to harassment and abuse by Muslim hardliners due to their interactions or conversations with Muslim girls. Separate incidents in Vadodara and Ahmedabad on 26th August 2023 were reported. In the past two days, a video originating from Ahmedabad has gained widespread attention.

The video depicts a Muslim mob stopping a Hindu young man traveling with a Muslim girl on a bike, and subjecting them to verbal abuse and physical violence. The young man was also threatened with dire consequences. Following the viral spread of this video, the targeted youth filed a formal complaint at the Danilimda police station. Consequently, the authorities apprehended the three individuals identifiable in the video for their involvement in the incident.

According to reports, on Saturday, 26th August 2023, the victim, Kishan, was going home on his two-wheeler with a Muslim girl who happens to be his neighbor. Three Muslim youths, Akbar, Faizan, and Hussain, who were already following him near Chirag High School at Danilimda, stopped his scooter and started beating him up by saying ‘You are a Hindu, why do you interact with our Muslim girl’. In the meantime, someone made a video of the entire incident and it went viral.

The OpIndia team tried to contact the victim youth Kishan alias Sunil Subramania Ramodar, a resident of Jamnadas’s chawl in Behrampura. But during the attack on him, the mob had stolen his mobile so he could not be contacted on the phone. But when we spoke to his brother, we got in touch with Kishan.

As per the filed complaint, the individual featured in the video has been recognized as Kishan, also known as Sunil Subramania Ramodar. He resides with his family at Jamnadas’s Chawl in the Behrampura region and supports his household by working at an idli-vada stall.

Kishan told OpIndia that on Saturday, 26th August 2023, he was going on his two-wheeler with a Muslim girl he knows, headed to his residence. The Muslim girl lives in his neighborhood, therefore he had offered a lift to her on the way home. While passing by Chirag School, precisely in front of Moti Bakery on the route from Khodiyarnagar to Danilimda, they came across Akbar Khan Pathan, Faizan Sheikh, and Hussain Sayyed. Immediately, the trio confronted them, physically assaulting both Kishan and the girl. The assailants also said, ‘You’re Hindu, why are you with our Muslim girl?’

He further said that this is a Muslim-dominated area, so in a few minutes, when a Muslim crowd gathered there, these people provoked others and said, ‘This Hindu is roaming around with our Muslim girl’. At the same time, they also harassed and misbehaved with the Muslim girl. As can be seen in the viral video, the Muslim mob rudely pulled out the burqa of the girl.

Kishan further said, “Someone from the crowd also snatched my mobile phone and stole it during the scuffle with me. They even threatened to kill me. Right now my family is very scared. The family includes my mother, two sisters and a younger brother. All the responsibility of the family is on me. I run the family by working on an idli-vada stall. I feel a threat to my life and that of my family.”

According to the latest information, on the basis of the complaint lodged by Kishan and the viral video, Danilimda police have arrested three persons from Danilimda, who attacked the young man and the girl. The three persons have been identified as Akbar Khan Pathan (resident of Pathan’s Chawl, Danilimda), Faizan Sheikh (resident of Chirag Park, Bombay Hotel, Danilimda) and Hussain Sayyed (resident of Allahnagar, Danilimda) respectively. Police are still identifying the others seen in the video.

Talking to the media, ACP Milap Patel of Ahmedabad K Division said, “After the video went viral, a case has been registered against the accused and three persons have been arrested. However, in this case, other people who are also seen in the video are being searched.”

Lately, many videos have surfaced in which Muslim mobs are seen chasing and stalking Muslim girls who are friends with non-Muslim men. A similar video surfaced in April this year from the Muslim-dominated Juhapura area of Ahmedabad in which Muslim youths were seen harassing a hijab-clad Muslim woman for talking to a Hindu youth.

A similar incident also occurred in Hyderabad recently, where a burqa-clad girl travelling with her non-Muslim male friend was harassed and misbehaved. The incident occurred on 26th August in the Jubilee Hills area and 3 minors were booked by police for harassing the couple.

Delhi Police arrests banned terrorist organisation SFJ’s member for painting pro-Khalistan graffiti on metro stations

0

On August 31, the Delhi Police special cell arrested a member of the banned terrorist outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), who has been identified as Preetpal. He allegedly spray painted pro-Khalistani graffiti and slogans at Metro stations in Delhi on August 27. Preetpal was apprehended from Punjab during the wee hours of August 31. As per some reports, another perpetrator was also taken into custody on the same morning, but police declined to comment on the development.

Ahead of the G20 summit in the National Capital, Khalistani graffiti appeared on several metro rail stations in Delhi. The Khalistani slogans appeared on more than 8 metro stations in the national capital. The graffiti read, “Delhi Banega Khalistan” (Delhi will become Khalistan), “Khalistan Zindabad” (Long live Khalistan) and “Khalistan Referendum Zindabad” (Long live Khalistan Referendum). A probe into the development was promptly started by Delhi Police.

Additionally, SFJ posted footage of the Shivaji Park and Punjabi Bagh metro stations with graffiti that stated “Punjab Is Not India” and “Khalistan Zindabad” on the walls.

Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ chief said, “Reminding G20 leaders that violence begets violence. Indian government’s use of bullets against pro-Khalistan Sikhs has reached Canada, UK and Australia.”

CCTV recording of the stations where the slogans were written was obtained by the police after registering an FIR. Following the investigation, police managed to track Preetpal down and arrest him.

This is not the first incident of SFJ painting pro-Khalistan graffiti in Delhi this year. A week before Republic Day, SFJ members spray-painted graffiti in a number of West Delhi neighbourhoods. Vikram Singh and Balram Singh, who were drivers for a hotel in Aerocity, were arrested by the special cell of the Delhi Police in the case.

Notably, The G20 summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi on the 9th and 10th of September.

‘Hinduism shall not be preached here’: Holy Family Convent School in Bareilly cuts Rakhis tied on wrists of Hindu students, apologises later

0

A case has emerged from Holy Family Convent School, a private school in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh where Hindu students were prevented from celebrating Raksha Bandhan and the Rakhis tied to the wrists of Hindu students were cut saying Hinduphobic things like ‘Hinduism shall not be preached here’. The parents of the students and members of various Hindu organisations visited the school and protested this act by the school after which the school furnished a written apology.

The incident took place at Holy Family Convent School on Bhamora Road in Aonla police station area of Bareilly. Here the students reached the school wearing Rakhi on their wrists. According to reports, some students also tied Rakhi to each other in the school. At that time, a teacher removed Rakhi and Kalava from the hands of the students. Seeing the students tying Rakhi, the teacher there became furious. The teacher scolded the students saying that ‘Hinduism shall not be preached here’ and the Hindu students who had Rakhi and Kalava in their hands were targetted. Their Rakhis and Kalavas were cut with scissors.

Upon getting information about the incident, the parents of the children and members of Hindu organisations including Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and ABVP reached the school and held a protest. When informed about the situation, the police arrived at the school, and subsequently, the school management extended an apology to the Hindu parents.

A leader from the local Hindu organization and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad stated that the school, being run by Christian missionaries, objects to practices such as applying Tilak on the forehead, chanting Jai Shri Ram, and observing traditions like tying Rakhi and Kalawa. He expressed that while India respects all religions, any disregard for the Hindu religion and its festivals would not be tolerated.

The school management accepted its mistake and gave a written apology on behalf of the school management. The school administration acknowledged their mistake and assured that such incidents will not recur in the future. They presented their apology letter officially stamped with the school’s seal before Hindu organisations and the school’s students. Hindu organisations tied Rakhis to the school staff from the female students of the school.

It is notable that the  National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has already written to schools asking not to punish students who choose to wear rakhi, tilak, or mehendi on Raksha Bandhan. In a note addressed to the Principal Secretaries of School Education Departments in all states and union territories, the NCPCR highlighted the chronic issue of corporal punishment meted out on students who wear rakhi, tilak, or mehendi during festive seasons. According to the commission, it has come to their attention, through numerous news reports, that children are experiencing harassment and discrimination from school teachers and staff while celebrating festivals.

US: Sexual abuse case against Roman Catholic cardinal for assaulting a 16-year-old boy dismissed due to his ‘dementia’

A Massachusetts court has dropped the sexual abuse case against Theodore McCarrick, a former Roman Catholic cardinal, on the grounds that the 93-year-old was incompetent to face the trial because of dementia. The cardinal was accused of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old boy in 1974.

McCarrick served as an archbishop of Washington DC. He is the only present or former US Catholic cardinal to ever be accused of child sexual abuse, and separate indictments have been brought against him by prosecutors in Massachusetts and Wisconsin.

The first case was brought before Judge Paul McCallum in Dedham, Massachusetts, and three counts of indecent assault and battery were brought against him by the prosecution in July 2022. The judge ruled, “Mr McCarrick is not competent to stand trial.”

Afterwards, the state prosecutor dropped the case against the ex-cardinal and remarked, “The commonwealth does not have a good-faith basis to proceed any longer with the prosecution given the testimony and the opinion of the psychologist that Mr McCarrick is not restorable to competency.”

Theodore McCarrick is the highest-ranking US Catholic official to be charged in the widespread crisis involving institutionalised child sex abuse in the Church. He was quiet as he watched the hearing via video conference.

A hearing in the Wisconsin case is planned for September 18. There is no scheduled trial date for the perpetrator in that case and no plea has been submitted. These two are the only cases he has encountered in spite of lawsuits filed by other men charging him with sexual abuse decades ago.

The ex-cardinal currently lives in Missouri and pleaded not guilty to the charges in September 2021. The statute of limitations in the Massachusetts case was frozen due to a legal technicality after Theodore McCarrick, a non-resident, left the state.

According to his attorneys’ motion to dismiss the case in February, a psychiatry and behavioural science professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine discovered that the ex-cardinal was suffering from dementia, which was likely brought on by Alzheimer’s disease.

The state psychologist Kerry Nelligan, who was hired by the prosecution as their own expert, testified on August 30 that she agreed his “severe cognitive declines” make him ineligible to stand trial at this time.

The Vatican overlooked his predatory behaviour

James Grein (64) has since been recognised as the anonymous minor who was sexually abused. The 1974 incident happened during his brother’s wedding celebration on the Wellesley College campus in Massachusetts. According to the police complaint, Grein said that the offender led him into a room where he grabbed his genitalia while “saying prayers.”

James Grein revealed his ordeal and mentioned that Theodore McCarrick, who went by the name “Uncle Teddy,” sexually harassed him repeatedly for years. The accusation was brought two years after he, the highest-ranking Church official to be ousted in modern times, was banished from the Catholic Church.

As the Church’s top representative in Washington at one point, McCarrick possessed considerable power. A Vatican inquiry found that he had concealed regular sexual relations with both children and adult seminarians.

The Vatican was charged with disregarding complaints against him while elevating him to ever-higher positions. His horrifying actions which continued for decades were detailed in the report. They only surfaced in 2018, twelve years after his retirement, when he lost his cardinal title. McCarrick lost his position as a priest and was dismissed from the Church a year later.

The Vatican acknowledged in a formal report from 2020 that Theodore McCarrick had received a promotion in spite of internal cautions about potential abuse. According to the report, victims who were interviewed spoke about “sexual abuse or assault, unwanted sexual activity, and intimate physical contact.”

The investigation disclosed that 17 persons provided tales of his abuse when they were still boys. They spoke of repeated incidents that started when they were just 12 years old and occasionally involved him supplying them with alcohol.

The report read, “A number of individuals reported feeling powerless to object to or resist physical or sexual advances given McCarrick’s position of authority.” The inquiry unveiled that he was close friends with former pope John Paul II and this “likely had an impact on the pope’s decision-making” to disregard the concerns and promote him to cardinal.

Delhi High Court directs former J&K CM Omar Abdullah to pay Rs 1.5 lakh monthly maintenance to estranged wife Payal Abdullah

0

The Delhi High Court on Thursday, 31st August, directed former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide his estranged wife Payal Abdullah a monthly maintenance of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Justice Subramonium Prasad additionally ordered Abdullah to pay 60,000 per month for his son’s education.

The order was issued in response to a petition filed by Payal Abdullah in July 2018 in which she challenged an order issued by the trial court on April 26, 2018.

The trial court awarded provisional maintenance of Rs 75,000 per month to Payal Abdullah and Rs 25,000 to their son till he turned 18 in proceedings under the provisions of section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Payal Abdullah petitioned the High Court for a raise.

She stated that the maintenance granted was insufficient and that their sons were not old enough to take care of their own bills and must rely on their parents to fund their education and everyday living expenses.

In 2016, a trial court dismissed Omar Abdullah’s divorce petition, ruling that he had been unable to prove an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” and his claims of “cruelty or desertion.”

Reportedly, Abdullah has filed an appeal with the Delhi High Court against this ruling.

Amazon manager shot dead in Delhi: 18-year-old Bilal Gani and one Mohammad Sameer arrested

On Thursday, August 31st, Delhi Police arrested a person named Bilal Gani alias Mallu over the allegations of involvement in the murder of a senior manager with e-commerce giant Amazon. The 18-year-old accused was arrested near the Signature Bridge at around 2 am today.

The arrest comes after 36-year-old Harpreet Gill was killed on Tuesday when five people opened fire at him and one of his relatives (some reports say friend), Govind Singh in the Subhash Vihar area of Bhajanpura. While Harpreet Singh was shot in the head and pronounced brought dead by the doctors at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, Govind Singh who owns an eatery in Subhash Vihar suffered critical injuries.

According to the police, the other four assailants have been identified as 18-year-old Mohammad Sameer alias Maya, 23-year-old Sohail alias Bawarchi, 23-year-old Mohammad Junaid alias Biryani and 19-year-old Adnan alias Don.

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has also arrested the main accused Mohammad Sameer alias Maya.

Meanwhile, DCP Northeast, Joy N Tirkey said that Harpreet Gill was shot on the right side of his head near the ear and the bullet exited from the other side.

Reportedly, Bilal Gani and the other accused on Tuesday were partying in the North Ghonda area in Bhajanpura, and at around 10:30 p.m. they went out for a ride on two scooters. While riding they were going on a narrow lane where two bikes could not cross. Harpreet Gill and his friend Govind Singh wanted the accused persons to give way. This, however, enraged Bilal Gani and his friends who in turn slapped Govind Singh. It was when Gill and Singh tried to step down and speak to them, that accused Sameer shot at the heads of the victims.

Gani, who worked at a welding shop in Bhajanpura, turned 18 on Sunday, according to the police. In 2022, he was involved in a murder and a robbery in Bhajanpura. He managed to come out of the Children’s Observation home being a minor at the time.

According to the deceased victim’s uncle, Akshay, Harpreet Gill had no animosity with anyone and says he has no clue why he was shot. “DCP, SHO came to the scene, and I asked him to look at the footage and find the accused,” he told ANI adding that Gill was unmarried and is survived by his parents and a younger sibling.

Mumbai: Police team pelted with stones by mob as it reached Irani Basti to nab history-sheeter Firoz Khan

On Sunday, August 27, a police team from the DN Nagar Police Station in Mumbai was attacked by a mob from the Irani Basti area. The Police team was attacked as it reached the Basti in the Ambivali region to arrest history-sheeter Firoz Fayyaz Khan who has 35 criminal cases registered against him. The mob pelted stones at the team forcing it to call for the backup team who reached the spot immediately to arrest the accused.

According to the reports, accused Firoz Khan has 35 criminal cases recorded in his name, and the Police were on the lookout for the criminal after he recently duped a 21-year-old man for Rs 1 lakh. The entire video of the attack on the police team was recorded on the CCTV camera.

The additional police team arrived in a school minibus and eventually succeeded in apprehending the accused from the notorious area to the city. The police were looking for Firoz Fayyaz Khan, 62, after seeing him in CCTV footage of an incident that had previously been reported to them.

The crime took place on August 10, around 1 PM, when three persons approached a 21-year-old man outside a bank near Azad Nagar metro station, claiming to be police officers. They claimed they suspected him of having drugs in his suitcase and wanted to investigate. During the ‘check,’ one of the men stole Rs 1 lakh that the young man had just withdrawn from the bank account of his employer.

An officer from DN Nagar Police Station talked to Hindustan Times and confirmed the incident. “When we saw the CCTV footage of the incident, we could identify Khan as one of the three accused. We started asking his whereabouts from our informers and were told that he had been in Ambivali for some time,” he said.

The officer said that Khan had multiple cases filed against him at several police stations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane.

On Sunday, Rakesh Pawar, an assistant police inspector and criminal detecting officer with the DN Nagar police, received information about Khan’s movements near Ambivali railway station.

A team of investigation officers was dispatched to Ambivali under the supervision of Shashikant Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police for DN Nagar division, Milind Kurde, senior inspector, and Wahid Pathan, police inspector (crime).

“As the area is known to be hostile towards policemen, one woman officer was planted there in a burkha to keep us updated about the movements of the accused. Khan was seen getting a shave in a salon where he was nabbed by policemen in plainclothes. As news about his apprehension spread among the locals, some of them came towards our vehicle and started pelting stones at us,” the officer added.

He further stated that two police officers suffered injuries in the stone-pelting incident, which completely destroyed the vehicle.

Firoz Khan later admitted to his involvement in the crime after being brought to the police station.

“During Khan’s interrogation, we also got to know that he was involved in another recent crime of a similar nature registered with the Vile Parle police station. His arrest will lead to solving many crimes in various police stations under Mumbai Police Commissionerate,” the officer said.

This is not the first incident when the police officers have been attacked by a mob in the Irani Basti area. Earlier, in the year 2019, the police team was attacked, and pelted with stones and bottles when it reached the area to nab four wanted thieves. Jafar Ali Syed was then taken into custody.

Further, in April 2017, when police went into Irani Basti to apprehend a chain snatcher, a mob of 25 people attacked them and attempted to set one of them on fire by throwing kerosene at him.

“Corruption rampant in judiciary, many judgments are written by lawyers beforehand,” says Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot

On Wednesday, August 30, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot caused a stir when he accused the judiciary of rampant corruption. The Rajasthan CM also said that he has heard that some lawyers write judgments and then the the same is pronounced.

Gehlot reportedly said, “Aaj to bataiye itna corruption ho raha hai judiciary ke andar. Itna bhayankar corruption hai, kai vakil log toh maine suna hai likh ke le jaate hain judgment aur judgment wohi aata hai (Tell me, so much corruption is happening in the judiciary today. Corruption is happening at such a large scale that I have heard that many lawyers write the judgment and take it along, and that is the judgment given).”

Kya ho raha hai judiciary ke andar? Chahe lower ho, chahe upper ho, haalat bade gambhir hai (What is happening in the judiciary? Whether lower court or higher court, the situation is very serious),” he said.

Gehlot also pointed fingers at the central agencies and targeted the BJP. “Woh ishara kar dete hain ki hum 15 minute baad mein aayenge. Aap apna mobile wagehra theek kar lijiye (They signal that we will arrive in 15 minutes. You fix your mobile etc.),” he said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s remarks criticising the judiciary have drawn flak from the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association.

President of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Mahendra Shandilya reacted to Gehlot’s statement calling it “unfortunate”. Shandilya said, “It is a very unfortunate statement by a very responsible person who is the Chief Minister. He should not make such sweeping statements. If he has any evidence, he is welcome to give the name of the honourable judge.”

The Rajasthan CM’s controversial statements attacking state institutions come ahead of the assembly elections due in the state later this year.

Nuh violence case: Congress MLA Mamman Khan to be questioned by SIT over his role in anti-Hindu attacks

Congress MLA Mamman Khan from Ferozepur Jhirka in Haryana has been summoned by police over his alleged involvement in the anti-Hindu violence in Nuh by Islamist mobs on 31st July. On Thursday, August 31st, Mamman Khan will be questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the Nagina Police Station, as per reports.

Reportedly, the Congress MLA will be questioned by the SIT headed by Nagina DSP Satish Kumar. This comes a day after a notice was issued to Mamman Khan under Section 160 of the CrPC where he was told to join the investigation and present himself at the Nagina police station.

As reported earlier, on August 28th, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij stated in the Assembly that evidence has been found against Congress MLA Mamman Khan pertaining to the anti-Hindu violence in Nuh. Vij stated that based on the probe conducted so far, evidence points towards Congress’ role.

“Until now, the number of people arrested is around 500, and around 130-140 FIRs have been filed. The investigation has revealed that this is all the doing of Congress,” Vij reportedly stated.

Four days after the Nuh violence, allegations surfaced against Khan that he had played a role in inciting the Muslim mob against Hindus on 31st July.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been alleging the role of Mamman Khan in the violence as a counter to Congress’s allegations that the BJP has been (allegedly) protecting Monu Manesar.

In the Budget session in February this year, Mamman Khan accused the Haryana government of allegedly arming Gau Rakshaks and flashed the images of Bajrang Dal activist Monu Manesar while attacking the government. Khan accused the BJP government asking whether they have given arms to goons to kill Muslims. Notably, Muslim-majority Mewat is the hub of cattle smuggling, an issue Khan chooses to neglect.

Notably, Mamman Khan won the 2019 elections from the Ferozepur Jhirka seat with 57.62% votes defeating BJP candidate Nadeem Ahmed. Khan had lost his first election in 2014 as an independent against Nadeem Ahmed who fought on an INLD ticket.
