Shraddha Walkar murder: Aftab Poonawala wants his credit cards back to buy winter clothes; court extends judicial custody by 4 days

0

Aftab Amin Poonawala, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail for the brutal murder of his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, has urged the court to direct the Delhi police to return his Debit and Credits cards lying in their custody. Poonawala’s lawyer filed an application before Delhi’s Saket court of Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shuklin in this regard.

Aftab’s lawyer MS Khan said that his client wants his cards back as he wants to buy warm clothes for the winter season and some other day-to-day items.

“The accused is suffering from harsh winter in Tihar Jail, and there are no adequate garments for the winter, so there are urgent necessities of funds to purchase the day-to-day items as well as warm clothes. The accused had some funds in his accounts and the debit cards/credit cards of the accused are lying with police officials,” said the application moved by Aaftab’s counsel, advocate MS Khan. He also claimed Aaftab’s family has severed ties with him and he has no source of income.

The court, meanwhile, extended the judicial custody of Aftab Amin Poonawala by 4 days and kept the application regarding the cards pending for the next day. Along with this, the court ordered the police that during the next hearing on January 10, he should be presented physically in court.

Notably, last month, Aftab Amin Poonawala moved a bail plea in Delhi’s Saket Court saying that keeping him in jail will hamper his career and future. Keeping Aftab in judicial custody now will only damage his career and future, the bail plea contended.

However, later Aftab through an email informed the court that the bail application was moved ‘erroneously’.

Earlier, Aftab’s judicial custody was extended for 14 days on December 9 after the DNA of the bones found in Mehrauli forest and Gurugram matched with the DNA sample of Shraddha Walkar’s father and brother. Police had recovered 13 bones from Mehrauli forest and sent those for forensic testing. This finding by the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFSL) established that 26-year-old Shraddha Walkar was murdered and her body parts were dumped around Mehrauli.

Shraddha Walkar’s murder sent shockwaves across the country

After the Delhi Police detained Poonawala on November 12, the shocking revelations surrounding Shraddha Walkar’s murder stunned the entire country. The 28-year-old admitted during questioning that he killed Shraddha Walkar, dissected her body, and dumped the pieces around the nation’s capital.

The corpse of Shraddha, who had been murdered, was cut into 35 pieces and kept in a 300-litre refrigerator at Poonawala’s home in Mehrauli, south Delhi, for over three weeks before being dumped around the city over a number of days.

West Bengal minister alleges that the old train was painted and given the name Vande Bharat amid stone-pelting attacks on it

North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha said the old train was painted and given the name Vande Bharat Express. On Friday 6th January 2023, Trinamool Congress leader and North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha launched Didi’s Raksha Kavach program at the Koochbehar district Trinamool Congress office. That’s where he made this statement. In fact, Mamata Banerjee’s government has already faced criticism for stone-pelting at Vande Bharat by some anti-social elements.

Minister Udayan Guha said, “Vande Bharat’s speed is 160 kilometres, and it takes 8 hours to travel from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri. In such a situation, the central government is fooling the people. People won’t accept things like that.”

Minister Udayan Guha said, “The old train has been painted and given the name Vande Bharat. If people are fooled in this way, more such incidents can happen. An attempt is being made to fool the common people by naming the old train Vande Bharat.” He added, “Stone pelting can never be supported. However, when people understand that they are fooling them, people can do something else in anger.”

Udayan Guha said, “This is nothing new. Earlier also, stones were hurled at various places demanding stoppages of many trains. If the common train is called Vande Bharat, its fare is higher, then such an incident can happen. Put all this hypocrisy and stupidity aside and present the truth to the people. In fact, people are not tolerating the hypocrisy surrounding these trains. The old train is being painted and presented in a new form.”

Udayan Guha’s statement has come after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee called Vande Bharat express a refurbished train with a new engine. The West Bengal chief minister made the comment in response to recent occurrences involving the Vande Bharat train being pelted with stones on the newly launched Howrah-New Jalpaiguri express. Banerjee, dispelling the allegations, asserted that the occurrences took place in Bihar, not West Bengal and that those propagating rumours would face consequences.

BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya reacted to North Bengal Development Minister’s statement by saying, “Vande Bharat is a symbol of the country’s speed at this time. Which coach in India is old, and is being repainted? He won’t prove it. Defaming the union government with this false information will not work. An irresponsible party representative will say these things. But Udayan Guha established the fact that he was supporting stone pelting.”

MLA poaching case: Telangana Congress wants CBI inquiry into defection of 12 party MLAs to KCR’s party

0

The Telangana Congress on Friday, January 7, demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged poaching of its MLAs, MPs, and MLCs by the erstwhile Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) between 2014 and 2019.

A delegation of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) led by A Revanth Reddy filed a complaint with the Moinabad police under Cyberabad police limits, seeking action against the BRS leadership, including chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, for allegedly poaching the Congress’ elected public representatives.

“If the Moinabad police do not act on our complaint, we shall approach the court seeking transfer of the case to the CBI, as was ordered in the case of alleged attempt to poach four BRS MLAs,” Revanth Reddy told reporters after lodging the complaint.

In the complaint, the Telangana Congress alleged that soon after coming to power for a second term in December 2018 assembly elections, the BRS (then TRS) leadership lured as many as 12 Congress MLAs into the ruling party one after the other over a few months.

The PCC requested that the police combine their complaint with the previously registered FIR submitted on October 26, 2022, against three people on allegations of allegedly attempting to poach four BRS MLAs by bribing them with posts, contracts, and money.

The PCC demanded that cases be filed against the BRS leadership under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 171-B (bribery with criminal intent) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 7, 8, 13, and 14 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

“We are not sheep or buffaloes to be purchased”, former Telangana Congress MLAs retaliated to poaching allegations

Notably, in 2019, the 12 MLAs of the Congress Party in Telangana who joined the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) retaliated to the allegation of their former party that they were lured by the TRS.

Refuting the allegations of the state leadership of the Congress Party, MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, one of the 12 MLAs, said that they were not sheep or buffaloes to be purchased. “Congress Party leaders’ comments are surprising. (They say MLAs) joined after being offered inducements, purchased, or out of fear. We are not kids to be made afraid. We are not the ones to fall for inducements. We are not sheep or buffaloes to be purchased”, said Reddy, adding that the MLAs merged with the TRS abiding by the Constitutional provisions.

Former BSP minister Yakub Qureshi and his son arrested for running an unlicensed meat business

On Friday, January 6, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Minister Yakub Qureshi and his son from Chandni Mahal area in New Delhi on the charges of running an unauthorised meat business. Yakub Qureshi was a minister in the Mayawati-led government in Uttar Pradesh.

Yakub Qureshi has been charged with running an unlicensed business of meat packaging and processing. Meerut Police informed that the father-son duo was nabbed with the help of Delhi Police.

Notably, Meerut Police had previously announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for their arrest. A case was filed against him under the Gangsters Act and the Indian Penal Code.

On March 10 last year, a case was registered against Haji Yakub Qureshi, his wife Sanjeeda Begum, his sons Imran and Feroz Qureshi, and 18 others at Kharkhauda police station. Carrying a reward of Rs 25000 on himself, Feroz Qureshi was arrested in November 2022. Feroz Qureshi was arrested from Ghaziabad for supplying substandard meat at his factory.

Former minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi owned and ran Al Fahim Meatex Private Limited. This meat factory is situated in Village Allipur Jijmana Dhikauli under the Kharkhauda police station area. There was an illegal business of meat packaging and processing going on in the factory. Police charged 18 people, including Yakub Qureshi, his wife Shamjida, and sons Firoz and Imran, after recovering meat from the spot. Meat worth five crore rupees was caught in the factory.

Haji Yakub Qureshi is also a known Islamist who made headlines after he announced a bounty of Rs 51 crore for beheading the cartoonists of France-based publication Charlie Hebdo for publishing a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad. Qureshi later announced to give the said amount to the terrorists who had barged into the office of Charlie Hebdo armed with lethal weapons and killed 12 people including 8 journalists. Qureshi was also reportedly involved in attacking environmental activists who had started a movement for banning meat plants to save the environment.

Delhi Kanjhawala hit and drag case: Anjali and Nidhi fought over money before the accident, alleges the victim’s friend

0

As Delhi Police continues its investigation into the Kanjhawala hit and drag case, a friend of the deceased Anjali Singh revealed that the woman who was killed had a fight over money with Nidhi before both of them left the hotel on New Year’s Eve.

Twenty-year-old Anjali was killed in the early hours of January 1 after her scooty was hit by a car that dragged her for over 12 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in the national capital. An examination of the CCTV footage helped Delhi Police in tracing and recording the statement of Nidhi who was riding a pillion with Anjali at the time of the accident.

Naveen, who claimed to be a friend of Anjali said both the deceased and Nidhi were partying at a hotel along with a few other friends during which there was an altercation between the two women Nidhi and Anjali.

“Both were partying there (hotel). Some other friends were also there. A little later, they started quarrelling. Nidhi asked for her money, and Anjali asked for her keys. They then had a physical altercation,” Naveen told ANI.

“We separated them. I told Anjali to calm down. Nidhi went downstairs and created a scene. The hotel staff told us about it. Anjali went downstairs to calm her down. They had a quarrel downstairs. By the time we went there, they had left on a scooty,” Naveen added.

“They got into a fight. Nidhi was asking for her money while Anjali was asking for her key. We tried to resolve the fight,” he added.

According to Naveen he and Anjali had been friends for the past few years and she was the one who had booked the hotel room.

“I was partying that day and I received a call from Anjali. I did not respond to her calls after which Anjali sent a boy to pick me up and at around 11:30 pm I reach Anjali’s place, where she was partying with friends,” Naveen said.

Meanwhile, Anjali’s mother has termed the accident as a “well-thought-out conspiracy” and has demanded the accused be given strict punishment.

“Nidhi is saying all the wrong things. If Nidhi was my daughter’s friend, then how did she leave her alone? This is a well-thought-out conspiracy. Nidhi might be involved in this. There should be an investigation and the five men should be punished,” Rekha, Anjali’s mother told ANI earlier.

Delhi Police on Friday arrested two more persons including Ashutosh, the purported owner of the car involved in the accident.

According to the police the two have been accused of shielding the five persons- Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal- who had been arrested in the case earlier.

While Ashutosh was arrested on Friday and remanded to police custody for three days, the seventh person accused in the case- Ankush Khanna, the cousin of accused Amit Khanna who was allegedly driving the car at the time of the incident- was arrested later on Friday after he surrendered at the Sultanpuri Police Station.

Did you get 2 crore jobs: Mallikarjun Kharge left red-faced as the crowd responded with a resounding ‘yes’

On Friday (January 6), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was left red-faced after his political rhetoric backfired on him during a public meeting in the Panipat district of Haryana.

In a bid to mock the BJP government, Kharge asked his supporters whether the BJP honoured its supposed ‘poll promise’ of providing 2 crore jobs to the people. To his horror, the crowd responded with a ground-thumping ‘yes.’

At about 9 minutes into his speech, the Congress President asked, “(BJP said) that it will give 2 crore jobs to the youth each year. Did any of you get those jobs?” The Congress supporters, who had gathered to listen to Mallikarjun Kharge, cheered in affirmation.

The Congress president was taken aback by the response of the crowd. In a bid to undo the damage, Kharge remarked, “You must have got the jobs since you guys are fighters/ rowdies (ladaku log). As such, you must have been the beneficiaries.”

It must be mentioned that the BJP never promised to provide 2 crore jobs each year, either during its political campaigns or its election manifestos. The fake claim, often made by Congress leaders, is a distortion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2013 speech in Agra.

In the said speech, PM Modi can be seen lashing out at the Congress government for promising 1 crore jobs in its 2004 election manifesto and not delivering on its promise. He was misquoted by PTI, followed by publications such as The Economic Times and The Quint.

Over time, the 1 crore figure got modified to 2 crores, with the Congress ecosystem repeatedly accusing the saffron party of not providing jobs to people.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi registered as a voter in two different assembly constituencies: Congress

On Friday, January 6, Telangana Congress senior vice president G Niranjan alleged that Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is registered as a voter in two separate assembly constituencies in the list of voters published on Thursday by the Telangana Chief Electoral Office.

The Congress leader said, “It was brought to the notice of the district election officer (DEO), Hyderabad, in a meeting on Dec 19, but corrective action hasn’t been taken. Election authorities should rectify this immediately.”

In a letter written to the Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar, G Niranjan said that in the definitive list of Telangana voters ‘Special Summary Revision’ released by the Election Commission on January 5, the name of AIMIM Supremo is listed in two assembly constituencies and this is a violation of the rules of the Election Commission.

While referring to the details of the voters’ list, Niranjan stated that Asaduddin Owaisi’s name appears under serial number 906 in the Rajendranagar assembly seat and serial number 412 in the Khairtabad assembly constituency.

“This indicates the irresponsibility of an elected member of parliament and also recklessness of election machinery in publishing the final voters’ list,” Niranjan said. while attaching the voters’ lists of both Rajendranagar and Khairtabad constituencies he claimed to have downloaded from the Election Commission’s website.

Dual registration is a violation of the Representation of the People Act of 1950. According to Telangana CEO officials, several Congress leaders brought the problem to the Hyderabad District Election Officer’s attention last month, but no action was done to remove Owaisi’s name from one of the Assembly constituencies.

Bringing the matter to the attention of the ECI on Friday, TPCC senior vice-president G Niranjan sought action against Owaisi.

‘He is Vijender, not a dog’: Netizens react after Congress shares Rahul Gandhi’s pictures with a dog, boxer Vijender Singh as BJY enters Haryana

As Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Haryana today, the official Twitter account of the Congress party shared pictures of senior leader Rahul Gandhi, boxer Vijender Singh, and a dog walking ahead of them.

The canine, whose name is Luna, joined Rahul Gandhi and others on Friday for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress party’s boondoggle project with no definite aims and objectives, and presumably a measure to portray the Gandhi scion as the PM candidate ahead of 2024 general elections. The party shared pictures of the canine with Rahul Gandhi, Vijender Singh, and others on Twitter.

Netizens react after Congress shares pictures of Rahul Gandhi with a dog and Vijender Singh

The pictures of Rahul Gandhi with Luna, a canine, created quite a flutter on Twitter, with many Congress leaders and party functionaries swooning over the dog, even though Vijender Singh had also joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Consequently, many social media users weighed in on their opinions on the images shared by the Congress party obsessing over coopting a canine for its political campaign.

Reacting to the pictures shared on Twitter, a social media user said it is not a dog but boxer Vijender Singh.

Another one said he is feeling sad for Boxer Vijender Singh, who had also joined Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana but did not warrant a mention in the party’s tweet on Luna.

Still another Twitter user posed a question on the pictures of Luna walking ahead of Rahul Gandhi. The user asked, “Why is @boxervijender walking in front of Rahul Gandhi?”

Many social media users likened the dog to Pidi, the pet of Rahul Gandhi, who came into the limelight after now Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that many of the regional Congress leaders ate biscuits from the same plate that served the canine, highlighting the apathy and indifference of the Gandhi scion toward concerns raised by his party leaders.

Congress leaders were habituated to being insulted and ignored by Rahul Gandhi: Sarma

The pictures reminded social media users of the meeting Himanta Biswa Sarma had with Rahul Gandhi before he left Congress and joined the BJP. Remembering the meeting, Himanta Biswa Sharma had revealed how Congress leaders were habituated to such humiliations meted out to them by the Gandhi-Parivar and were treated like pet dogs.

Narrating another incident from the same meeting, Sarma revealed that the Congress leaders feared Gandhi so much that they ate biscuits from the same plate that had served biscuits to Rahul Gandhi’s dog ‘Pidi’. Sarma noted that several Congress leaders, including former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, had visited Rahul Gandhi to apprise him of the political developments in the state.

However, Rahul Gandhi was busy playing with his canine friend ‘Pidi’ and ignored the state leaders. Biscuits from the same plate were given to the dog and were presented to the visiting congress leaders, said Sarma.

‘Dear Suniel, rotten apples have ruined the industry, and it’s not 1%’ – A Stupid Common Man

0

On January 5, actor Suniel Shetty urged the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, to help remove the stigma around Bollywood. He also asked CM Yogi to do something about the ‘#BoycottBollywood’ trend that is becoming increasingly popular.

During an interactive session with UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who was on a two-day visit to Mumbai to discuss investment prospects in Noida Film City, actor Suniel Shetty took the opportunity to lament the impact of the boycott campaign on Bollywood. Shetty also stressed the need to bring the audience back to theatres as well as change the perception of people that all Bollywood/Hindi cinema folks indulge in wrong activities.

“There is one rotten apple everywhere, but you can’t consider all of us to be like that. People nowadays believe that Bollywood is a bad place, but we have produced some good movies here. When I did Border, I was also a part of one such film. I’ve been a part of a lot of good films. We need to come together and figure out how to get rid of the boycott Bollywood hashtag. We have to figure out how we can remove this trend,” Shetty said.

Moreover, Suniel Shetty also asked CM Yogi to discuss the ‘anti-Bollywood’ campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that “99% of the people” in the industry are good.

Boycott calls are not propaganda but against propaganda

Suniel, I would like to address you directly from now onwards. Not only you, but all the other actors, directors, producers, and technicians who are involved in creating films should be addressed directly and with honesty. First of all, many of your colleagues think it is a sinister plot against the film industry. As if some Asuras in the form of fanatics have risen from Narak to boycott Bollywood as part of some evil plan.

There are also rumours that it is being done because Khans rule the industry, which is absolutely not true. Well, let me tell you once, and for all, it is not the reason. Also, as you said, 99% of the people in the industry are good, sorry, but that’s not true. I know a few people in the industry; sadly, a large percentage is either rotten or on the path to becoming a rotten apple.

Let me take the example of a Hindi film. Do you remember the film A Wednesday starring Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, and others? Towards the end of the film, when it was revealed that the actual plan was to kill the terrorists and not save them, Anupam Kher, who played the role of commissioner, asked Naseeruddin Shah, who played the role of the unnamed bomber, why he was doing what he was doing and why it was happening all of a sudden.

Your situation and the film’s plot are quite similar. The ‘anti-Bollywood’ brigade on Twitter is nothing more than a group of ‘stupid common’ Indians who are out on social media with “6 KG RDX” called #BoycottBollywood. Let me be very clear, it is not happening all of a sudden. This is not something that sprung out of nowhere just because the minds behind the Twitter handles woke up one day and thought, “Badi boriyat hai chal taang maarte hain Bollywood ko”. It is because Bollywood has poked Hindus, the quiet and stupid Hindus, for decades.

The rot of poking the community is so deep that the best and favourite actors of the community, including Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, and others, leave no stone unturned to mock the religion whenever they find a chance! I am saying it openly and clearly because you all have come equipped with weapons against us for boycotting films. If you look at your career, there must be at least one film or one scene in which Hindus were mocked. If you find one, are you going to regret working on that project? Will Ajay Devgn or Akshay Kumar apologise for working in a film like Thank God or asking fans not to worship Shivlingam with milk, respectively?

The problem is that no one in Bollywood is ready to accept their mistake and correct the course. Even the actors who have zero credibility in the industry are blaming the public for their films failing at the box office. The problem, Suniel, is not the public but you, the people in the industry. The point is simple. Get your act corrected, and the public will stop boycotting the films. No mocking Hinduism. No subtle anti-India narrative, and yes, please ask your colleagues to maintain it while promoting the films. No sane Indian will like to watch a film with actors who went to meet the “Tukde Tukde” gang at JNU.

I have not named any Khan here. There is a reason. No one expects them to come out and accept their past mistakes, especially Aamir Khan. Lal Singh Chaddha might be a bad film, but it was not the reason it flopped at the box office. Even worse films than LSC by him have worked well in the past. But now, those mistakes should not be repeated.

And yes, watch the entire sequence of A Wednesday’s climax. Each and every dialogue fits perfectly in the scenario. If you are worried about the lakhs of people getting affected just because the public wants to punish the few rotten apples then ask the rotten apples to correct the course, and the lakhs you are worried about will be saved. It is always better to get rid of the rotten apple, Suniel. Again quoting a famous dialogue from Bollywood, “Hindustan mein jab tak cinema hai…”, please fill in the blanks.

ISIS operative arrested by NIA turns out to be Karnataka Congress leader Thajuddin Sheikh’s son: Details

On Thursday, January 5, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at six locations across Karnataka in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Bengaluru in connection with the Shivamogga ISIS conspiracy case and arrested two ISIS operatives, Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh of Udupi district and Huzair Farhan Baig of Shivamogga district.

Now the counter-terrorist task force has confirmed that one of the arrested ISIS operatives, Reshaan Sheikh is the son of Karnataka Congress leader Thajuddin Sheikh.

According to the statement issued by the NIA, Reshaan Thajuddin was radicalised by Maaz Muneer, who is his close associate and collegemate. Maaz Muneer was arrested by the agency in September last year. Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh and Huzair Farhan Baig received funds from their ISIS handler through Crypto-wallets for furthering the terrorist activities of the Islamic State in India.

“As part of their larger violent and disruptionist designs, they also indulged in arson and targeting of vehicles and other establishments, such as Liquor shops, Godowns, transformers etc,” the NIA said.

Thajuddin Sheikh is the general secretary of the Brahmavar Block Congress in Udupi. Thajuddin Sheikh is also reportedly a close aide to former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, KPCC president DK Shivakumar, and UT Khader. Thajuddin is, notably, from Dakshin Kannada’s restive region, which has, over the years, seen terrible communal murders and conflicts.

Interestingly, a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested terror suspect Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh from Varamballi, in Brahmavar, Udupi, photos of the accused’s father with Congress leaders are going viral.

For the uninitiated, the case was initially registered at Shivamogga Rural Police Station on September 19, 2022, and then re-registered by the NIA on November 15, 2022.

In September, two persons Maaz Muneer Ahmad (22) of Mangaluru and Syed Yasin (21) were arrested for their alleged links to the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State. In the same case, Mohammad Shariq was a suspect and he was on the run from the police.

Notably, Mohammad Shariq is the same ISIS operative who was involved in the blast that took place in an autorickshaw in Mangaluru on Saturday, 19th November 2022. He was arrested by the Karnataka police on Sunday 20th November 2022.

BJP slams Congress for the terror links

Following the arrest of the Congress leader’s son for his alleged link with the ISIS, BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat launched a scathing attack on the grand old party.

“He is already been arrested and is being questioned further. There is worrisome information in the investigation. There should be a thorough investigation of the coastal region. These kinds of activities are happening for a long time in coastal regions and we have emphasised the same even during hijab protests. After the pressure cooker incident these kinds of incidents are emerging in the coastal region, and it is getting more aggravated here. NIA should give special focus to this region,” the BJP leader said.

“Therefore, when these kinds of Congress leaders get involved in these kinds of activities, Congress have to take the onus of it. Now Congress has to give answers since Tajuddin’s son has been arrested in terror activities,” the BJP MLA added.
