‘Case is not as innocuous as it appears, a sinister scheme was devised’: Police oppose bail plea of toolkit activist Disha Ravi, court reserves verdict

0

A Delhi court on Saturday reserved the verdict after hearing the bail plea of 21-year-old ‘climate activist’ Disha Ravi, whose name has emerged in the ‘toolkit’ controversy.

During the course of proceedings before additional sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana at Patiala House Court, ASG SV Raju, appearing for the state argued that it was important to not grant bail to the ‘activist’. Reading out a reply by Delhi Police in the ‘toolkit’ case, Raju argued that the pro-Khalistani outfit Poetic Justice Foundation (PJF) mobilises support for its cause and Disha Ravi is closely connected with the Zoom meeting organised by the outfit and its proponents.

The ASG said that Ravi had initially lied to the Delhi Police saying that she did not know anything about the Toolkit. However, the police have the phone number which was used to create the Whatsapp group and that was in her name. Moreover, Disha deleted chats and email IDs from the newly created Toolkit. “She has deleted contents from her phone. This clearly shows her intent.” Raju said, furthering that she also asked Swedish activist Greta Thunberg to delete the document. “If it was so innocuous, why did she ask Greta to remove it. This shows there was a sinister plan behind this toolkit,” the ASG added.

SV Raju told the court that the case is not as innocuous as it appears, a sinister scheme was devised. The purpose of Toolkit prepared in conspiracy with accused in Canada shows an offence under section 124A has been committed, said the ASG.

In pursuance of the conspiracy, Delhi police added that Sikhs for Justice, a banned organisation, had announced a reward of $2,50,000 on January 11, for anyone who hoists the Khalistani flag on India Gate, Red Fort.

The Delhi police further explained how PJF based in Canada, which advocates the creation of a Khalistan state, wanted to take advantage of farmers protest. They wanted an Indian face. They got in touch with few people, including Disha Ravi. A mechanism was devised. The entire purpose of making this toolkit was a conspiracy between the accused,” the police argued.

The prosecution furthered that Ravi set up a WhatsApp group, “International Farmers Strike”, on December 6. Attempts were made to get in touch with PJF. On January 11 a Zoom call was made between PJF founder MO Dhaliwal and the ‘activist’. Several such meetings followed, the court was told by the prosecution which added that the toolkit itself was drafted on January 20 and its final version was shared three days later.

“There was no need to share this toolkit with PJF. It has nothing to do with farmers protest. That too in a clandestine manner. It was a sinister plan,” the police argued.

A hyperlink was provided in this toolkit, they said adding that link led to a different website – CurrentGenocideWatch.com. “That website speaks about genocide, Kashmir…and defaming the Indian Army. This toolkit was cleverly designed to defame India and the Indian Army,” the police told the court.

SV Raju informed the court that later the toolkit was edited. “Emails have been deleted. You can’t find who has done it. Before the January 26 violence, they prepared a template and prepared details to be shared with persons”, argued the prosecution, as it added: “They worked in a coordinated manner to sabotage the Republic Day.. the Poetic Justice is carrying the agenda of protests globally. This is not a coincidence. It is well planned”.

Moving on, SV Raju also said that during the probe the link with another organisation- Kisan Ekta Company had appeared. Kisan Ekta company is in touch with organization in Vancouver, which is a hotbed for anti-India activities with regard to Khalistan, said Delhi Police, adding that the accused wanted to make the agitation international.

Based on these arguments, Delhi Police tried to establish the fact that Disha Ravi was an integral part of the plan devised by the pro-Khalistani outfits to create unrest in India, and opposed the bail plea of the activist.

Yesterday, the Delhi police had told Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain that Disha Ravi has been evasive in giving replies during the interrogation and shifted the blame onto co-accused Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk. The police requested the court to send her to three-day judicial custody, as they have served a notice to co-accused Shantanu, who will join the investigation on February 22, following which both will be confronted.

“We would need the custody of Disha post February 22 to confront her with the other accused. If she is given bail then the investigation will be frustrated,” The Delhi police had told the court.

After hearing all the arguments, the court reserved the verdict for 23rd February.

On Friday, Ravi was sent to three-day judicial custody by Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain sent Ravi, 21, to jail after Delhi Police produced her before the court on expiry of her five-day custodial interrogation.

The climate ‘activist’ was arrested from Bengaluru in connection with the ‘toolkit’ controversy case and she was remanded to police custody for a period of five days by a Delhi court.

Pakistan: Peshawar Medical College to charge rape victims PKR 25,000 for medical examination, PKR 1,500 to keep dead body in cold storage

0

The Forensic Department of Khyber Medical College University in Peshawar, Pakistan has come out with a callous proposal that seeks to charge rape victims PKR 25,000 for medical examination and PKR 5,000 for an autopsy for the local residents of Peshawar, reports Express Tribune.

According to the reports, the Management Committee of Khyber Medical College University, in a recently held meeting, decided to enforce new rules. Under the new rules, the charges for keeping corpses in the cold storage has been raised to PKR 1,500 per 24 hours. For DNA testing, PKR 18,000 has been fixed. The decision to make 17 new charges was taken to meet the operational expenditures of the Forensic Department.

“For the district Peshawar autopsy cases, the department will charge PKR 5,000 per case, while for the cases referred from other districts, the charges will be PKR 25,000 per post-mortem,” said an official of the department. He added that for kinship and paternity test PKR 20,000 fee has been proposed.

Police may force rape victims’ to pay for their medical examination

Further, one has to pay PKR 3,000 for drug abuse analysis. Urine tests and alcohol analysis will cost PKR 2,000, and the test for poison detection to cost PKR 4,000.

The local police send the unclaimed dead bodies to the Khyber Medical College University, where they are stored for months until their identification and retrieval by the family.

The activists believe that the new rules will affect the rape victims. In Pakistan, the Police Department already has a limited investigation budget, and the introduction of such high charges may lead to police forcing the victims’ families to pay for not only autopsy but also DNA tests and medical examination of rape victims.

“When you go to a police station they often ask you to pay for the diesel for police vehicles. Now they will ask the general public to pay the charges of autopsy and even medical examination of rape victims. So the decision is not a welcome one,” said a rights activist Tamur Kamal while speaking to The Express Tribune.

Wanted for inciting Republic Day violence, gangster Lakha Sidhana releases video inciting people to join another rally in lakhs

0

Wanted by Delhi Police for inciting violence during the tractor rally at Red Fort on Republic Day, gangster Lakha Sidhana, who carries a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head, has released a new video on social media. In the video, he has exhorted people to join in support of the farm agitation in Bathinda district’s Mehraj, the ancestral village of Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on February 23.

Sidhana, who is on the run ever since the Delhi Police booked him for his involvement in the Republic Day violence in Delhi, stressed the importance of the Punjabi language and be united in the protests against the government. He asked Punjabis to promote their mother tongue throughout the world on World Punjabi Day (February 21).

In the video that was posted on Friday night, Sidhana urged people to gather in big numbers at the grain market in Mehraj, 35 km from the Bathinda district headquarters. “We are organising a farmers’ gathering in Mehraj of Bhatinda on February 23,” said Lakha Sidhana and urged people to reach the protest in large numbers.

The gangster also slammed the central government, accusing them of filing fake against demonstrators to hustle them into silence. “The government is trying to create a fear among the farmers by registering false cases against them,” said Lakha Sidhana.

The Republic Day violence accused also indirectly slammed the Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, saying farmer protests are now being championed by people who are not Punjabi.

Gangster Lakha Sidhana absconding since violence erupted in Delhi on January 26

The gangster Lakha Sidhana was about to be caught from the Singhu border area on January 26 but as the tractor rally crowd went rampaging, the accused switched off his phone and managed to flee from the area. In addition to Sidhana, actor-activist Deep Sidhu was also listed as one of the accused in inciting demonstrators to indulge in violence in Red Fort. While Sidhu has been arrested, Sidhana remains untraceable.

Since then, Delhi Police has been on the lookout to trace the whereabouts of gangster Lakha Sidhana, accused of fomenting violence during the tractor rally on the Republic Day when thousands of demonstrators breached barricades, clashed with the police and stormed the grounds of the iconic Red Fort.

After the violence swept over the national capital, Delhi Police named actor-activist Deep Sidhu and Lakha Sidhana in an FIR accusing the two of instigating the protesting farmers to storm the iconic monument and hoist flags, including Khalistani flags.

Karnataka PFI leader warns Muslims against donating to Ram Mandir, case registered for hate speech: Read what he said

0

Amidst the ongoing Ram Mandir donation drive, the radical Islamic organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) on Friday warned Muslims against donating to Ram Mandir’s construction. Making a provocative speech against the Ram Mandir construction, PFI’s Karnataka general secretary Anis Ahmed said that the proposed Ram Mandir was not Ram Mandir in the truest sense but an RSS mandir.

Speaking at a PFI rally in Ullal, Karnataka, the PFI leader asked Muslims to mark the Hindu activists, especially RSS and BJP worker, residing in their locality. Continuing the attack RSS, Anis Ahmad also said that the Hindu nationalist organisation was the country’s real enemy and claimed that the RSS was more dangerous than cancer. He further said that RSS should be confronted and not appeased.

“RSS is such a deadly virus for which there is no vaccine yet. We will get that vaccine and administer it at various places. There is no Hindu-Muslim problem in this country, but it is RSS vs Muslim problem in this country,” he said.

Terming PFI workers arrested in several criminal cases as ‘heroes’, the PFI leader accused the government of targeting PFI party workers in false cases.

According to Anis Ahmad, “RSS is the biggest enemy of Hindus. Muslim intellectuals who all the while advocated that by foregoing Babri mosque land, peace will prevail. I would like to ask those intellectuals, is peace prevailing now? After handing over land, in the name of collecting funds to Mandir, RSS is attacking Muslims and their businesses. They are not going to stop here, RSS will create communal disturbances. Therefore, Muslims must now start confronting RSS”.

Home Minister promises action against PFI

Following the PFI leader’s provocative speech, the Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday has taken a strong exception to his speech and directed police to file a case against the PFI leader.

Reacting sharply to a speech by PFI General Secretary Anis Ahmed on the commemoration of Popular Front Day at Ullal in the coastal city of Mangaluru on Thursday, the home minister said the radical Islamic leader had delivered ‘anti-national and hate speech’. He also questioned the PFI over its morality to question the nation’s foremost patriotic institutions – RSS.

“What PFI leader has spoken of is certainly against this country and against the Constitution. It is certainly anti-national speech, hate speech,” he said.

The PFI’s motives are very clear in this speech that it wants to divide people of this country into communal lines, Bommai added. The Home Minister also said that how can the PFI talk about the Ram Mandir, when the matter is settled by the Supreme Court, permitting the Mandir to be built in the same place.

The Mangaluru police have registered two cases against PFI in connection with the foundation day programme held at Ullal on February 17. The first case is registered against PFI activists for carrying out a “unity march” without any permission. The second case has been registered against the PFI cadre for raising slogans to condemn the Supreme Court’s decision of allowing the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

FIR filed against Congress leader Dr Udit Raj for spreading fake news in Unnao girls death case

A case has been filed against Congress leader Dr Udit Raj in connection with the deaths of girls in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao. Raj is accused of spreading fake news and misleading facts on social media about the case. An FIR has been registered against him at Unnao Sadar Kotwali police station.

The action was taken against the Congress leader on the directions of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who had directed the state police to take strict action against those who have been sharing misleading posts on social media platforms.

Earlier yesterday, Dr Udit Raj posted a tweet, alleging that he had spoken with former MP Savitri Phule, who had reportedly confided in him that with great difficulty the police had allowed her to meet with the victims. Raj had further added that the victim’s family asserted that the girls had been raped & the bodies were burnt against the will.

Unnao police issues a press note refuting Udit Raj’s allegations

Refuting the allegations, the Unnao Police issued a press note in which it said that the tweet posted by Raj on the two dead girls and one seriously injured girl was misleading and he had posted it to incite resentment among people. The police stated that the allegations made by Raj in his tweet were far from the truth and against the facts of the postmortem reports.

The police further added that Raj’s assertion that the girls were raped and their family members were coerced to cremate them were profoundly misleading. The post-mortem report of the two girls revealed that they were not raped. Besides, the police also said that the dead bodies of the girls were cremated by the family members of their own volition.

The police have filed an FIR against Congress leader Dr Udit Raj for concocting a misleading story on the deaths of the two girls in Unnao and charged him under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code as well as under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Unnao: Three Dalit girls found unconscious in their family field, two dead, one’s condition critical

Three Dalit girls were found lying unconscious in a field in Baburha village under the Asoha police station of Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh yesterday. Two of them were reportedly declared brought dead by the doctors while one is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

According to reports, an initial examination by the police and the doctors suggested that the two girls were poisoned. District Magistrate and other senior officials reached the district hospital to take stock of the situation. Security personnel have been deployed at the district hospital and around the village. An IG and a DIG rank officer have also reportedly left from Lucknow to take cognisance of the matter.

As per reports, the girls had gone to the field to collect fodder for cattle. The fields are owned by the girls’ own families. The victims’ brother Vishal reportedly said that all three girls had gone to the field around 3 pm yesterday to collect fodder. When they did not return by late evening, the families went looking for them and found them lying in the field. Two girls were already dead by the time they were found. Vishal denied having any enmity with anyone. He said that the girls used to study but their studies were discontinued and now they used to work in the field. He added that the girl undergoing treatment might tell what transpired over there if she survives.

In the meanwhile, the UP police have claimed to to have solved the case, after arrested a man named Vinay, along with a 15-years-old boy. According to police, Vinay has confessed that he had mixed insecticide in water to target the eldest girl, 17, after she rejected his advances. But inadvertently, all three girls drank the poisoned water. The younger cousins, aged 13 and 16, were found dead on Wednesday evening, the 17-year-old actual target of the crime is undergoing treatment in hospital.

The police said Vinay decided to poison the girl after she refused to give him her mobile number. Like the victim girls, the accused also belong the Schedules Caste.

German farmers are in revolt, but lack global ‘liberal’ lobby support, unlike India: Here are 3 reasons why

No farmers, no food, no future. When right becomes wrong, resistance becomes duty. I’m just reading some of the inspiring placards and slogans from the protests at the Singhu border. How touching to see these Bravehearts holding out in the bitter snow of the Delhi winter.

Farmers protesting in Germany

I am so inspired that I am getting chills. But wait a second, snow in Delhi? Seriously?

Oh, excuse me. Did I say Delhi? I was actually looking at reports about this.

Farmers protesting in Germany (Source: dw.com)

The farmer revolt in Germany has been happening for a while now. German cities have been choked with long lines of tractors. Their target is a controversial new law brought by the German government. Sound familiar?

Farmers protesting in Germany (source: Express.co.uk)

It turns out that the German government has brought in a new “insect protection law.” It will curb the use of certain pesticides to save insect populations from collapsing. But many German farmers insist that these laws will destroy their livelihood. Or as they put it more succintly, “don’t kill farms to save bugs.”

Now, I am neither a German citizen nor George Soros, so I will leave it at that. It is not for me to judge, nor impose my will on the German people. They are a democracy. Let them sort it out.

To make their statement, German farmers even brought their tractors to the historic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Sound even more familiar?

Farmers protesting in Germany (source: RT.com)

Note however, that the farmers did not try to give any appearance of an insurrection. Nobody tried to seize symbols of German state power and plant alternative flags. Also, nobody used swords against police personnel nor tried to chase them into a ditch. Such losers I tell you, those Germans. They don’t understand how “peaceful protest” is really done.

But I cannot help wonder. As Rihanna would say, why aren’t people talking about this? What happened to humanitarian liberal media all around the world and their supposed reverence for farmers? Don’t the “annadatas” of Germany deserve some love?

There are at least three easily identifiable reasons for this. And each one of them is a lesson to people here in India.

The first reason is pure racism. The global media respects the sovereignty of countries with majority white populations. They see Germans as people who deserve to make their own decisions. Did the Prime Minister of Canada try to order Chancellor Merkel around? Of course not. But they see India differently. We may have our own elected government, but that doesn’t matter as much. Our government is expected to report to western capitals and western media on a daily basis and make a case for its legitimacy. Any time that the Washington Post or New York Times feel that our government is no longer legitimate, they will mobilize global opinion to rescue people in formerly colonized countries. It’s the ultimate high, a heady mix of white privilege and liberal privilege.

The second reason is that the protesters in Germany chose to respect the law. And they restricted themselves to peaceful protests. Here is the ultimate perverse incentive created by liberal politics. The worse you behave, the more they pander to you. Who would listen to German farmers trying to persuade people politely? Some of the protesters in Germany even carried signs with witty remarks like “no farmers, no beer” intended to tickle people. What good is that?

Think about protesters from the religion of ‘peace.’ They can get anything they want simply by raising an eyebrow. Because everyone is scared is of them. It’s the liberal way. Walk all over those who are polite. Go down on your knees before coercive elements.

The third reason is the most chilling of all. The market for attention, like every other market, is driven by money. There is a lot of money to be made by defaming India. And no money to be made by defaming Germany. There is nobody around to pay for full page ads in the New York Times calling Germany a fascist state. There is nobody to hire influencers at $2.5 million per tweet to get people talking about what a horrible place India is.

Who is investing this money? And what are their interests? If you say they really care about people of India, you must be joking.

Bear in mind that this market also creates its own demand. Once they have painted a target on India’s back, people around the world want to know more. They want to scratch that itch. In the US, the popular Daily Show did an 8 minute segment defaming India, but only a 2 minute segment about how the liberal governor of New York covered up 50% of Covid deaths. Do you realize what this means? American media now gives higher billing to anti-India reporting than it gives to actual American lives. Who created this market and what are their interests?

Subversion against India is now a global liberal mission. And an obsession.

Congress party struggles to cope with its financial crisis, sends SOS messages to the party’s strongholds to come to its rescue

The financial position of the Congress party has reached a critical point post its 2014 political marginalisation. The grand old party, which has been struggling to make ends meet, has now sent out SOS messages to the party loyalists to come to its rescue.

In fact, if reports are to be believed, the prospects of the party is so unpropitious that nowadays whenever the party leaders meet at the AICC meetings, apart from organizational matters like the nomination of state presidents, the prime topic of discussion is the finances of the party. “Finances have been a focus area during recent meetings,” an AICC leader has been quoted as saying.

According to reports, the top Party managers had met, all the ministers of Punjab, Jharkhand and Maharashtra and some organisational members, separately last month to discuss the issue. The ministers and party associates have been briefed about the party’s precarious financial situation and asked to take up the responsibility to improve the party’s financial picture.

For the grand old party, there are a few things which are of immediate concern. Firstly, it is the upcoming assembly elections in five states – Kerala, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, for which the party requires instant fund mobilisation. Secondly, the new Congress headquarters in the National capital which is under construction for some time now. For this too, the party requires a generous amount of funds, which the party at the moment is in the dearth of. While BJP has moved to the headquarters built by it, Congress continues to operate from the government bungalow in Delhi.

Foreseeably, the Congress party, along with an existential crisis has also been going through a major financial crisis post-2014 poll debacle. It is an established fact that the ability to generate political funding from private donors depends largely on a party’s political strength and resilience. And, unfortunately, the grand old party now has governments in only Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while it is tottering on the brink in the poll-bound Puducherry. Though it is part of ruling coalitions in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the focus there is mostly on the lead players in the alliances like Shiv Sena, NCP and JMM.

Owing to its desperation to prevail over the serious crisis, it is learnt that the Congress party additionally plans to ask its elected representatives throughout the nation for contributions.

Donation to the Congress party fund slips in 2019-20, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi contribute less than several party leaders

Earlier we reported, how the donation to the Congress party fund in 2019-2020 had also seen a sharp decline as compared to the previous year. Congress gathered Rs 139.01 crore in contributions in 2019-2020. This is a significant dip from last years collection of Rs 146 crore.

Moreover, what was extraordinary about the ECI report on Congress’ contribution for 2019-20, was that the members of the Gandhi family, which has been running the show since the inception of the party, have appeared to be the most close-fisted. In fact, the 23 senior leaders of the party invariably called the G-23 had made much larger contributions than the party president Sonia Gandhi who contributed Rs 50,000 to the party fund, while her son and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi donated Rs 54,000.

From Grooming Jihad to his Sanghi roots and CM prospects: Here is what metro man E Sreedharan said after deciding to join BJP

One of India’s greatest engineers E Sreedharan, fondly known as ‘Metro man’, is all set to join the BJP during the Rath Yatra in Kerala. Dr E Sreedharan, who is instrumental in envisioning and designing the country’s modern railway infrastructure, may also contest the upcoming Kerala assembly elections as a BJP candidate.

Nearly a day after expressing his wish to join the BJP, Sreedharan has also revealed interesting details about his past association with the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his yesteryears. Disclosing his decades-old association with RSS, Dr Sreedharan said that he is a Swayamsevak from his school days, and Sangh had laid all the foundational values in this life.

Speaking to NDTV, technocrat E Sreedharan said that he has lost faith in all other political parties and decided to join BJP due to its progressive outlook. The Padma Vibhushan awardee engineer also heaped praises on PM Modi and former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee.

“I got great admiration for PM Modi personally but, that alone is not the thing. I have a good rapport with (Atal) Vajpayee, who was the previous prime minister. Very good rapport with him in fact, he only opened the first section of Delhi Metro.. and his conduct, the way he was behaving was very impressive to me,” said E Sreedharan, speaking to NDTV.

Love Jihad is real, Hindus are tricked in a marriage, says technocrat Sreedharan

One of the major highlights of Dr Sreedharan’s interview was his unequivocal opposition to the menace of “love jihad”. Love Jihad is the barbaric act often carried out by Muslims to forcefully convert the non-Hindus, especially Hindus, by trapping them through marriage because he had seen in Kerala that Hindu girls were tricked into marriage.

Responding to NDTV’s question on the menace of “love jihad”, Dr Sreedharan said, “Love Jihad, yes, I see what is happened in Kerala. How Hindus are being tricked in a marriage and how they suffer… not only Hindus, Muslim, the Christian girls are being tricked in a marriage. Now that sort of a thing I certainly will oppose.”

His comments against ‘Grooming Jihad’ comes amidst the rising instance of religious conversion carried out by Muslims through ways of fraud, coercion or marriage.

‘BJP is party of nation lovers, I don’t like people eating beef’: Dr Sreedharan

Dr Sreedharan also spoke about the controversy surrounding beef in the state of Kerala. “Personally, I am a very, very strict vegetarian. I don’t even eat eggs, so, certainly, I don’t like anybody eating meat. That is certain…” he said, in response to a question on beef-eating in Kerala and the BJP’s campaign against cow meat.

The former chief of Delhi Metro also said that it was wrong to portray BJP as a communal party today in the country. Dr Sreedharan asserted that BJP was a party of nation lover and not a communal party.

“I have got such a long association with people in BJP – it is not a communal party at all. It is a party consisting of nation lovers and who accept that all parties, all communities are alike as far as they’re concerned. That is the attitude of the Modi government. I can see the way he speaks, I have never seen him at any time attacking any religion. This religious bias in an unnecessarily taunt on BJP and very unjust, according to me,” the former technocrat added.

The 88-year-old technocrat said that his aim was to bring the party into power in Kerala and added that he was open to the chief ministership. He also said the focus would be on developing infrastructure if the BJP emerges victorious in the assembly polls, likely to be held in April-May this year.

TIME hails Bhim Army chief, who called women wh*res and prostitutes, as a top 100 emerging leader

0

TIME, on Wednesday, released 2021 TIME100 Next, an expansion of TIME’s flagship TIME100 franchise of the most influential people in the world. The list highlights 100 emerging leaders who, as per TIME, are shaping the future. Interestingly, the list mentions the name of Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad.

Azad is mentioned with the likes the UK’s Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, Twitter’s top lawyer Vijaya Gadde, Instacart founder and CEO Apoorva Mehta, doctor and Executive Director of non-profit GET US PPE Shikha Gupta and founder of non-profit Upsolve Rohan Pavuluri.

Speaking on the list, Editorial Director of TIME100 Dan Macsai said, “Everyone on the list is poised to make history. And, in fact, many already have”.

Azad spearheaded a campaign for justice in Hathras case, says his TIME profile

Chandrashekhar Azad’s TIME profile describes him as the leader of the Bhim Army, which runs schools to help Dalits escape poverty through education and also “practices a distinct brand of assertiveness, sweeping into villages on loud motorbikes to protect victims of caste-based violence and organising provocative demonstrations against discrimination”.

It further says Azad and Bhim Army also “spearheaded a campaign for justice” in Uttar Pradesh when the “investigation of the fatal gang-rape of a 19-year-old Dalit woman, allegedly perpetrated by four dominant-caste men” was delayed by the police.

The profile mentions that Azad “also lent his support to several other progressive movements, including recently to farmers protesting against corporate agricultural reforms”. Describing his “aura”, his TIME profile mentions how “Aazad’s luxuriant moustache…is a form of resistance”.

How Bhim Army interfered with the investigation in Hathras Case

Azad’s Bhim Army was accused of interfering in the investigation of the Hathras case after three of their men were reportedly found living with the family of the victim claiming to be their relatives. As per reports, three persons of Bhim Army including a woman from Madhya Pradesh had lived with the victim’s family pretending to be their relatives. Azad alias ‘Ravan’ had reportedly met the victim on September 27, two days before she succumbed to her injuries and the matter was politicised.

The three Bhim Army workers were actively giving media statements and targeting the state government and the administration. The police grew suspicious after it was decided that police protection would be provided to each member of the victim’s family and the police started inquiring about the immediate family members. That’s when the Bhim Army workers reportedly slipped away silently.

When Chandrashekhar Azad’s abusive tweets went viral on Twitter

In June last year, a compilation of screenshots of Azad’s abusive tweets from the past had gone viral on Twitter. Most of the tweets dated back to 2018 wherein Azad used extremely derogatory and cheap Hindi slangs to insult women with a different ideological bent.

In almost all his tweets, the Bhim Army chief called all the women who supported Prime Minister Modi as “Dallas” (pimps) and “prostitutes” accusing them of selling their bodies to BJP leaders. The National Commission for Women had taken cognisance of Azad’s abusive tweets.

In the same month last year, Azad was also accused of donating blood at AIIMS-Delhi without informing the doctors about his alleged blood disease that made him unfit to donate blood. Neither Azad nor did his physician Dr. Harjit Singh Bhatti, who accompanied him to the AIIMS, reveal his medical condition before donating the blood. Later on, it was revealed that Azad was suffering from polycythemia vera, a blood disorder.

Last year, TIME had included the name of a 82-year-old anti-CAA protestor named Bilkis in its list of ‘100 Most Influential People of 2020’.

‘I don’t shake a**, I break bones’: Kangana Ranaut hits out at MP Congress leader for calling her ‘naachne-gaane wali’

Sukhdev Panse, former minister in the previous Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh, made a sexist barb against actor Kangana Ranaut, calling her a ‘naachne gaane waali’. The video of the Congress leader making derisively misogynistic remarks against Kangana has been doing the rounds on the internet.

“Gambling and betting are openly going on unabated, but no police action is being taken against it. But, when our party workers protested peacefully against a naachne-gaane waali woman like Kangana Ranaut for her insulting remarks about our farmers, the police lathi-charged them,” Panse said at the Betul District Collectorate to register his complaint about recent police action on Congress workers protesting against Kangana Ranaut.

He also added, as a thinly veiled threat, that the police should not act as a puppet of Kangana as governments keep changing.

“The police should not act as a puppet of Kangana as governments keep changing. There should be a fair investigation of the police’s action against the Congress workers and no action should be taken against our party workers till the probe is complete,” Panse said.

Kangana Ranaut hits back at the Congress leader for his sexist remarks

Panse’s remarks did not sit well with the National Award winner actor, who was quick to respond to the sexist barbs. The actor mentioned three actors—Deepika, Katrina and Alia—to allege that she is the only one who dared to refuse to item numbers and turned down movies starring popular heroes.

Slamming the Congress leader, Kangana tweeted, “Whoever this fool is does he know I am no Deepika Katrina or Alia…. I am the only one who refused to do item numbers, refused to do big hero ( Khan /Kumar) films which made entire Bullywoodiya gang men +women against me. I am a Rajput woman I don’t shake ass I break bones.”

Congress workers lathi-charged for creating ruckus on the sets of Kangana’s upcoming movie

The comment from the Congress leader comes after party workers were baton-charged by the police for trying to halt the shoot of the actor’s upcoming spy thriller Dhaakad.

About 250 Congress workers launched a protest at Sarni, where Kangana was shooting for her upcoming movie. The workers wanted Kangana to apologise for her tweets against farmers.

In response, Kangana tweeted: “Police protection has been increased around me as Congress workers in MP held a protest to stop my shoot. Congress MLAs are saying they are protesting on behalf of farmers. Which farmer gave them such power of attorney? Why can’t they protest for themselves?”
