‘Farmer’ leader Rakesh Tikait threatens to burn crops if govt asks to end protests

‘Farmer’ leader Rakesh Tikait today while addressing a rally in Punia, Haryana, threatened that if the government insists on farmers ending the protests, the farmers will set the crops on fire.

He warned that the central government should not be under any misconception that the ‘farmers’ protesting at various borders in Delhi will go back for harvesting the crops. He added that if the government insists that they go back, they will set the crops on fire.

He further threatened that if the government ‘ruins’ the situation, they will take the tractor rally to West Bengal, which goes for state assembly elections in few months’ time. Attacking Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, he claimed farmers are not getting MSP (minimum support price) there either. Agriculture is a state subject.

The protesting ‘farmers’ carried out a tractor rally on 26th January 2021 when the official Republic Day parade was on. The rally turned violent after the ‘farmers’ took to rioting and attacked police with swords and tried to mow them down deliberately. The rioting ‘farmers’ then took siege of the Red Fort and unfurled various flags.

The Print tries to justify the brutal killing of Rinku Sharma by holding him responsible for his own murder

The cold-blooded murder of a young Bajrang Dal activist named Rinku Sharma in Mangolpuri area of the national capital by a bloodthirsty Muslim mob has left everyone shocked and terrified. The brutality of the incident has left people with many unanswered questions particularly concerning the safety of Hindus in the country. Amidst all of this, the ‘secular’ people in the country have gone dumb on the incident while some media portals are busy spreading their propaganda.

Rinku Sharma

The Print Report portrays Rinku Sharma as the culprit

At a time when the country has come together demanding stringent punishment for the killers of Rinku Sharma, the Print is busy peddling its propaganda by presenting new theories based on the version given by the family of the culprits. The Print report claims that the knife that was used to kill Rinku Sharma was bought by him and that it was he who started the fight. The report quotes the family of accused Nasruddin to say that Rinku was drunk that day and the fight started after he forced Zahid to drink alcohol.

The report also says that Rinku had invited Zahid and his friends to the party and then he started fighting with them after getting drunk. When the family of the accused got to know about the fight they went to intervene. The report alleges that Rinku pulled out a gas cylinder to attack them. Not just that, the report further alleges that Rinku had pulled out the knife to attack the accused.

The way the Print has reported the incident shows a lack of sensitivity on the brutal murder of a young Hindu man in his 20s. The Print comes forward to defend the accused and declare Rinku Sharma responsible for his own murder putting aside all the human sensitivity. The report should not be mistaken as an attempt to present a ‘neutral’ picture of the incident. The headline of the report has been deliberately framed to present Rinku Sharma as the culprit who actually started the fight insinuating that he deserved the fate he met.

Evidently, the report was written to cater to a certain section of people who have been desperately looking for clues to blame it all on Rinku Sharma so that they can preach about maintaining peace arguing that both the parties were at fault.

Chanting of Hanuman Chalisa

Fortunately, their propaganda is not going to sustain as the evidence of the brutal murder of Rinku Sharma are floating all over social media. Everyone saw that CCTV footage in which a bunch of 15-20 people are seen walking towards Rinku’s house carrying lathis. The footage also shows how they abused women and attacked the men. If there was no pre-planned conspiracy to kill Rinku Sharma, how come so many armed people gathered all of a sudden? While the family of Rinku Sharma is braving such a tragedy, the Print’s effort to whitewash and justify the acts of culprits cannot be called journalism. However, the media are incessantly busy ‘balancing’ the situation.

It is also clear that the killers had gone to Rinku’s home to kill him, and the incident didn’t happened at a party like the media reports, and even police, were claiming. Even of some scuffle took place at some earlier in the day, the actual crime took place at Rinku’s home, not any party. Moreover, videos make it clear that Rinku and his family was attacked by the mob soon after they entered their home, there was no argument over anything that led to the violence.

Chanting of Hanuman Chalisa continues in the memory of Rinku

About a week has passed since the brutal murder of Rinku Sharma but Rinku’s memory is fresh in minds of locals who are remembering him. Some people tell that Rinku kept repeating the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while he was being taken to the hospital. Two of the accused present at the hospital named Zahid and Tajuddin had attacked Rinku’s friends. Zahid even tried to pull out the knife from Rinku’s back to erase the evidence. However, on failing to pull the knife out, he pressed it deeper. It had bothered the culprits that since the foundation laying ceremony of Ram Mandir, Rinku used to be organise a Hanuman Chalisa paath every Tuesday. However, the locals have continued to organise the Hanuman Chalisa path even after Rinku is gone.

OpIndia talked to Mannu Sharma and exposed the lies of media

When Senior Editor at OpIndia, Ravi Agrahari visited Rinku Sharma’s house on Tuesday to check the veracity of claims made by media regarding Rinku Sharma’s death, the Hanuman Chalisa paath was still going on. Our senior editor attended the Hanuman Chalisa paath and talked to Mannu Sharma.

Mannu Sharma exposed the lies propagated by media

Senior Editor Agrahari asked Mannu Sharma about the veracity of the claims regarding the birthday party and alcohol. Mannu Sharma dismissed the claims as lies and said that his brother was neither drunk nor did he try to force Zahid to drink and that there was no fight between Rinku and Zahid. He said that Zahid had attended the party with someone else and the fight took place between him and someone else. This had nothing to do with Rinku Sharma.

Mannu said that the accused had come armed to his house. He himself had opened the gate. He added that the culprits did not record their own acts and are circulating a clip where Rinku Sharma lifted the gas cylinder in self defense. Mannu alleged that the culprits wanted to kill the entire family but his brother came forward got killed. He said that the police are cooperating in the case. Mannu wants all the culprits to be brought to the book. He said he and his organisation do not intend to go against the administration.

While Rinku Sharma’s family is demanding justice, the Print is busy justifying the acts of the culprits by manipulating the incident. Dainik Bhaskar, on the other hand, is claiming that the members of a Hindu organisation are swearing to avenge the Rinku’s death despite Mannu’s clarifying that this is not his intention. The claims that Muslim families have left the area out of fear are completely false. The families of the accused who live about 20 metre away from Rinku Sharma’s house are still there and no one has left the area. Only the people involved in the murder of Rinku Sharma are absconding.

It is noteworthy that all the footages of the day of the incident have been obtained from private CCTV cameras. Mannu Sharma said that no evidence could be obtained from the cameras installed by the Kejriwal government. It is being said since after the day of the incident that the cameras were not working. Similar pattern was observed during the anti-Hindu Delhi riots where the claims of CCTV cameras installed in affected areas being dysfunctional since the riots started had started to emerge. The matter is being investigated by the crime branch. Five accused named Mehtab, Zahid, Islamuddin and Tajuddin have been arrested so far.

‘Will not allow Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar to work in Maharashtra’: Maha Congress Chief Nana Patole threatens

On Wednesday, Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole threatened Bollywood celebrities Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, saying they would not be allowed to shoot or release any of their movies in Maharashtra if they did not speak on the supposed fuel price hike.

Speaking to the media, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said that the actors had tweeted about the high fuel prices during the UPA era but are quiet now. He said stars such as Bachchan and Kumar had tweeted when the price of petrol rose to Rs 70 per litre.

“But now the price is nearly Rs 100 per litre. Why are they not raising any voice? Don’t they have the courage to speak against the dictatorial Modi government,” Patole said.

Targeting the Bollywood actors, Patole said that the UPA government functioned democratically and hence they could criticise the Manmohan Singh government. He also demanded the government to reduce the fuel prices to give relief to the common people.

Besides high petrol and diesel prices, the price of LPG cylinder too has gone up to Rs 800, Patole noted.

“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, people are facing a lot of hardship. Since international crude prices have come down, petrol should have cost Rs 35 per litre and diesel Rs 25 per litre,” Nana Patole said, adding that the party would launch a protest if fuel hike is not rolled back.

SP leader Abu Azmi says modern women enable atrocities against women, claims social evils have risen as women don’t stay behind purdah

0

Samajwadi Party leader Abi Azmi has given a controversial statement against women. On February 17, while commenting on the Priya Ramani case, Azmi alleged that modern women who get in live-in relationships, roam around with men and later blame men for sexual assault are among the reasons for atrocities against women.

Blaming the Indian laws that allow women to have live-in relationships with men, Azmi said that the direction is wrong. He cited Islamic law and said that in Islamic Laws women are not allowed to live or have any relationship with men without marriage. He alleged that every religion has the same law. He claimed that live-in relationships are part of western culture.

Azmi also blamed media for terming accused men as guilty while the investigation is still on. He urged media to show reality and not form any conclusions on their own.

Heated argument with ABP anchor Romana Isar Khan

ABP News anchor Romana Isar Khan had invited Abu Azmi to question him on his statement against women on her show ‘Samvidhan Shapath’. During the discussion, Romana and Azmi got into a heated argument over his remarks against women. Romana argued that if Azmi believes that the law is wrong, he should correct it. She further questioned Azmi why he used derogatory words against women and painted the wrong picture of modern women. She also asked Azmi if he believes women should not be free to work or go outside the house.

Azmi, who was visibly angry with the anchors’ comments, blamed her for misinterpreting his statement. He claimed that he and his party respects women and it was not correct to call him anti-women. When Romana said that the assaulters do not differentiate between a 2-year-old girl child and an 80-year-old woman and people like Azmi enable them by blaming women for being modern, Azmi called Romana a liar and claimed he never said anything against women. He said his statement was edited to make him look bad.

Woman, Parda and Dung

In his statement, Abu Azmi had mentioned that the Indian culture is not what modern woman illustrates, but it is the woman who has a feet long parda while carrying dung on her head. When Romana questioned him about the depiction of women in his statement, Azmi said that he saw a woman with feet-long ghoonghat and carrying cow dung on his head in a village he had visited some time back. He claimed that though there was no man around at that time, the woman was still in ‘parda’.

Romana questioned him why he could not find any woman as an example from cities like Mumbai but gave the example of a woman that he saw long bank in a village. Azmi claimed he found the woman in the village in sync with the Indian culture and said that modern women should go and live in western countries like America. Romana alleged that Azmi liked the woman in the village only because it was in sync with his patriarchal mentality.

‘Roam around naked for all I care’ said Azmi

When Romana argued if he wanted women to stay home like hostages, Azmi got irritated and said he does not care if she wants to roam around naked. Romana further asked if he feels those who do not wear Burkha are not wearing clothes at all. Azmi got rattled by cross-questioning and tried to divert the discussion to farmer protests. He said those who are supporting farmers are being targeted by the media.

Unnecessary hinduphobic comment

While arguing with Azmi, Romana made an unnecessary Hinduphobic comment in her show. She said that Azmi’s respect for women is similar because women are worshipped in the country where rapes happen too often.

The curious case of Shweta and her friend’s sex-addict girlfriend. Here is why ‘Shweta’ is trending on Twitter

Amid all the political and paid hashtags, a genuine, organic trending topic on Twitter is like a breath of fresh air. On Thursday afternoon, ‘Shweta’ was trending on Twitter.

Shweta trend

Curious, we clicked on the hashtag to see what had happened. Turns out, an audio clip has gone viral on the microblogging site bringing one Shweta instant fame. At the time of writing this report, Shweta was trending at number four on Twitter with 11K tweets.

A recording of what appears to be an online class has gone viral where one Shweta was narrating to her friend her conversations with her other close guy friend. Much to everyone’s amusement, Shweta appears to have muted the speaker instead of muting her microphone, thereby spilling her friend’s secrets to her entire class.

Shweta narrates in details how his friend shared all his secrets with her, where he tells her that he “makes out with his sex-addict girlfriend whenever they meet” and that they have “done it multiple times”. She narrates how her friend sometimes gets too possessive about his girlfriend. “He loves that girl like crazy. That girl was just using me and I didn’t even know. He was so crazy about her that she was a sex addict… he was attracted with feeling. So he also did ‘it’,” she said. She adds that her friend confided that he was also hooked to having sex with the girl that they would ‘do it’ every time they meet.

Since her speaker seems to have been switched off, the repeated warnings from other members in the meeting like: “Shweta..your mic is on”, “Shweta….Shweta…don’t worry now 111 people know your secret…”, had gone unheard.

Soon after the audio clip was shared on social media, netizens filled Twitter with the most innovative and hilarious memes and Shweta started trending on the microblogging site.

Before even Shweta could realize, she became a star on Twitter.

Shabnam – The first woman to be hanged after India’s independence: Why she and her lover Salim killed everyone in her family

For the first time in independent India, a woman on death row will be executed at the country’s only female execution room in Mathura. The Mathura district jail has started preparations to hang a woman convict first time in 70 years.

Shabnam, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, is one of the two convicts in the 2018 Amroha murder case, will be the first Indian woman to face gallows. Both the accused have been sentenced to death. A female hanging house was built in Mathura Jail 150 years ago, but no woman convict has been hanged yet.

The mercy petition filed by Shabnam has already been rejected by the Governor and President and is likely to be hanged soon after a death warrant is issued. Shabnam is presently lodged in Rampur district jail while another convict in Amroha case – Salim is lodged in Agra prison.

Who is Shabnam?

Shabnam who hails from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was having a relationship with Salim and intended to get married. However, the family of the women were against their marriage. On April 15, 2008, Shabnam’s entire family was killed, and Shabnam initially claimed that her house in the small village of Bawankhedi, Amroha was attacked by unidentified assailants.

However, during the investigation, Shabnam confessed that she and her boyfriend Salim had planned to kill her family members. Shabnam, who was pregnant with Salim’s child, had made her family members drink milk laced with sedative and thereafter slit their throats. Seven members of the same family, including her 10-month-old nephew, were killed by Shabnam and Salim.

Salim, who worked at a wood sawing unit outside Shabnam’s home, came from a different socio-economic background than Shabnam and was a Class VI dropout. While Shabnam was a double MA (in English and Geography) and taught at the village primary school. Salim was a Pathan, while Shabnam’s family were Saifi Muslims.

Shabnam’s family owned some land in the village, and her father was an Arts teacher in the local college. The difference in socio-economic was not accepted by Shabnam’s family, which resulted in an argument between Shabnam and her parents.

Mercy petition rejected, review petition also dismissed by Supreme Court

Both Shabnam and Saleem were sentenced to death in 2010 by the sessions court in Amroha in UP. The two convicts filed several petitions over the next 11 years from Allahabad high court to the Supreme Court. However, they were all rejected. The President also rejected the mercy petition. In January last year, her review petition was dismissed by the SC.

Meanwhile, Shabnam’s uncle Sattar Ali has said that she deserves the death penalty for brutally murdering seven members of her own family. Pawan Jallad of Meerut, who had executed the convicts in Nirbhaya’s gangrape-murder case, will be the executioner of Shabnam and Salim’s death penalty. He has visited Mathura jail and suggested modifications to the existing structures to carry out executions when and if death warrant is issued.

Why did India Today’s anchor contradict their own report? Unnao incident has the usual suspects peddling the same agenda

On 17 February, Wednesday evening, three Dalit girls were found lying unconscious in their family field where they had gone to collect fodder in the afternoon. The family had conducted a search after the girls did not return home till the evening after leaving home at around 3 pm in the afternoon. The incident occurred in Baburha village under Asoha police station of Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

The police were informed, and the unconscious girls were shifted to a nearby hospital. According to an India Today report, Unnao SP Anand Kulkarni informed that two girls died at the hospital. The third girl was critical and she was then referred to the district hospital. The police stated that in the initial investigation, witness statements said that a lot of froth was found at the spot and the families suspect a case of poisoning.

The India Today report also stated that the mother of one of the victims have stated that the clothes of the girls looked fine and even the scarf tied around her neck was not out of place. She also asserted that the hands and feet of the girls were not tied.

India Today report

A report by The Quint stated that though an IANS report had claimed that one family member said the hands and feet of the girls were tied, it has yet to be confirmed and the bodies were removed before the police arrived. The report also mentioned that the preliminary examination found no signs of violence or struggle at the spot.

The police also stated that there were prima facie no injury marks on the bodies of the girls, though the police will be looking at all possible angles.

India Today anchor contradicts their own published report, peddles caste angle and other speculations

However, it is interesting that what India Today publishes in their report, and what their anchor claims on TV and social media are two entirely different things. Here is India Today anchor Akshita Nandgopal starting her report (hours after their own published report said there were no hands and feet tied) by claiming that the hands and feet were tied. She mentions later that India Today has no clear picture yet and “it is all sketchy”.

The anchor repeats the caste angle claim, repeats the rhetoric of “deteriorating law and order situation in UP”. She even claims that the girls are Dalit and adds that “There is a caste angle that is being looked into. though I don’t want to say this, the reality is that these girls were Dalits and perhaps that what has got to do with the crime itself”.

The anchor then proceeds to claim that the third girl who is critical, has been “badly injured”. The anchor then repeats the “deteriorating law and order situation in UP” rhetoric, without providing any basis, just repeating the hollow claims mentioning Congress and SP, who are in the opposition in the state, and without bothering to reflect whether UP is the only state where crimes against women are being reported.

It is not clear why the India Today anchor contradicts their own published report. But a look at some tweets by some specific individuals may put some clarity to where this is leading. The earlier published report by India Today had already included a specific section on “Dalit Groups’ demanding better treatment for the critical girl.

Usual gang activated to peddle caste politics, anti-Yogi angle based on pure speculations

The report had cited Bhim Army chief Chandra Sekhar Azad demanding that the critical girl be shifted to AIIMS Delhi. The government has stated that the girl is getting adequate treatment in Kanpur and there are no immediate plans to shift her to Delhi.

However, even if initial investigation says there was no signs of struggle at the scene, no visible injuries on the girls, no signs of their clothes being disturbed, there are certain individuals who have already decided what direction they want to steer the incident’s narrative into. Some examples:

Tweet by Richa chadha
via Twitter
Tweet by Azad demanding post mortem at AIIMS including SC/ST doctors and shifting the survivor to AIIMS

Bhim Army’s Chandrasekhar Azad, who failed to stir up the chaos he had hoped for in the Hathras case demands that the postmortem be conducted at AIIMS, Delhi, by a panel that includes SC/ST doctors and the survivor should be shifted to AIIMS, Delhi. He is setting a worrisome narrative here. Azad’s tweet suggests that the Dalit community should not trust non-Dalit doctors. This is what the likes of Azad want in the society. Doctors profiled on the basis of their caste.

The usual ‘left-liberal’ gang is already activated. They are already decided that this case is to be peddled as another Hathras case, where a Dalit girl was strangulated and a media storm gathered claiming that she has been brutally raped and murdered, with her eyes gouged out, despite forensic reports saying that no signs of sexual violence were found on the body. It is notable here that the case of strangulation and attempt to murder had suddenly taken a massive political turn and started gathering national media attention after Azad’s visit to meet the victim last year.

Rohini Singh has claimed the three Dalit girls were found “tied up inside a forest”, despite ground reports and police saying that the girls were found in their own family field and the mother has denied ‘tied up’ claims.

Tweet by Rohini Singh

Rohini Also peddled the family being put under house arrest narrative. The police have already denied this. The Unnao Police have stated that the media reports are false and no one from the victims’ family has been put under house arrest.

Rohini Singh seems hell bent to keep repeating the false claim that the girls were found ‘tied up in a forest’.

Rohini Singh’s tweet

Swara Bhaskar also shared the #Save_Unnao_Ki_Beti hashtag like actors Amyra Dastur and Richa Chadha and many others. She even demanded resignation of the Yogi government for this incident.

Swara Bhaskar’s tweet

The Hathras incident, the farmer protests and many such cases have proven how a coordinated group, including media, celebrities and politicians work to peddle lies and a specific narrative, even contradicting the facts and realities, to further a political narrative. Prima facie, the ground reports, the family statements and police statements say that the girls were found in the family field, without any visible injuries, without signs of struggle to suggest sexual violence, and that the initial examination suggests poisoning. The police have stated that the investigation is on. But the efforts are already on to peddle wild claims and further the narrative of the Dalit politics.

‘Could be a conspiracy because of his tough stands’, SC closes proceedings in sexual harassment allegation against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi

0

The Supreme Court on Thursday closed the suo moto proceedings initiated by it in April 2019 to probe into the larger conspiracy behind allegations of sexual harassment levelled against then CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

Justice Kaul-led three-judge bench decided to close suo moto proceeding initiated on SG Tushar Mehta’s request a day after media houses like the Scroll.in and several other Left to far-Left portals had carried the story of a former employee of the SC levelling sexual harassment allegations against ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi on April 19, 2019.

It was followed by a complaint from Advocate Utsav Bains, who alleged conspiracy behind the charges levelled at Gogoi by the former employee of the Supreme Court.

While closing the proceedings, the three-judge bench, headed by Justice SK Kaul said: “The Justice AK Patnaik report acknowledges that the existence of conspiracy cannot be ruled out.” The SC bench was referring to a report submitted by a one-judge Committee headed by former SC judge, Justice (Retd) AK Patnaik, who was tasked to probe a larger conspiracy in the allegations against Justice Gogoi. AK Patnaik was commissioned to also probe “whether middlemen and fixers working with disgruntled court officials were trying to fix judges” against Gogoi.

The report by Patnaik had acknowledged that a wider conspiracy to level charges on sexual harassment of former CJI Gogoi “cannot be ruled out”.

Conspiracy to defame Ranjan Gogoi for his decision on the finalisation of NCR-Assam

The SC said that the Intelligence Bureau had also submitted a report to the AK Patnaik committee which had stated that some people were unhappy with Ranjan Gogoi because of the tough stands he had taken for finalisation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. And the sexual harassment charges on Gogoi could be a part of a conspiracy hatched by these people to defame the then CJI,

The SC bench said that AK Patnaik panel was not able to get electronic records like WhatsApp messages to probe conspiracy to frame ex-CJI Gogoi as two years have passed and recovering electronic evidence will be difficult.

The apex court also said that since the in-house committee of the Supreme Court had also found no substance in the allegations levelled against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, there was no purpose in continuing the suo moto proceedings against the ex-CJI.

Leftist websites break story of sexual harassment allegations against ex-CJI

For the uninitiated, in May 2019, a month after the far-leftist media portal Scroll.in published a report accusing Ranjan Gogoi of sexual harassment, an In-house committee of the Supreme Court, comprising of Justices S A Bobde, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee, submitted its report which said that they found no substance in the allegations contained in the complained dated 19.4.2019 of a former employee of the Supreme Court of India.

A former employee of the Supreme Court had levelled charges of sexual molestation against CJI Gogoi, which is being probed by the panel. Few days after that, advocate Utsav Basin had alleged that the charges are part of a larger conspiracy involving disgruntled former employees, lawyers, judges and corporates to fix the Supreme Court.

West Bengal: Saraswati idol vandalised in Howrah, devotees chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as they take to the streets to protest

0

Tension prevailed in Domjur town in the Howrah district of West Bengal after a group of Muslim youths led by a local named Jalal vandalised an idol of Goddess Saraswati on Wednesday. According to local reports, the incident happened just before devotees were to carry out the immersion of the idol a day after Saraswati Puja was celebrated across the country on Tuesday.

After the incident, irate Hindus took to the street to stage a protest. Chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ resonated as devotees sat on the road with saffron flags, blocking the thoroughfare, They demanded that the miscreants be brought to books.

A local Hindu protesting on the streets of Domjur in Howrah, West Bengal, told media that some intoxicated Muslims, led by a youth named Jalal, created a ruckus and vandalised the Goddess Saraswati idol placed in a makeshift pandal on the street.

The locals said that though the police have picked up Jalal, no action has been taken against him. Complaining of police apathy, the locals demanded strict action against Jalal and other miscreants.

Amidst all this, some local TMC leaders pinned the blame of the incident on the Hindu devotees, calling it a gimmick to discredit the Muslim community.

This is, however, not the first such incident. Several incidents of Idol vandalism and temple desecration and sacrilege have been reported over the last few years.

Kerala: One of greatest engineers of India, ‘Metro Man’, E Sreedharan to join the BJP

Elattuvalapil Sreedharan, popularly known as ‘Metro Man’ is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, reports Times of India. The state BJP may also request him to contest the Kerala state assembly elections. He has been critical of the Pinarayi Vijayan led state government in the past.

E Sreedharan, one of India’s greatest engineers, is instrumental in envisioning and designing metro infrastructure in various cities in the country, especially the ambitious metro rail project in Delhi. He retired as chief of Delhi Metro on December 31, 2011.

The Kerala-based engineer acquired the sobriquet of ‘Metro man’ after he oversaw the implementation of urban infrastructure projects of metro rail.

Sreedharan will officially join the party during the Vijaya Yathra, a rath yatra scheduled in Kerala ahead of the state assembly elections. The rath yatra is set to launch on February 21 from Kasaragod and ends in Thiruvananthapuram in March’s first week.

Kerala is scheduled to go to elections in April. In 2016 assembly elections out of 140 seats, BJP had won only one seat – Nemom.
