American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib joins Islamic terror sympathiser and son of terrorist Asiya Andrabi to push anti-India propaganda on Kashmir

0

Earlier this month, controversial American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib joined notorious Islamic terror sympathisers and Jihadists to peddle anti-India propaganda on Kashmir.

According to Rajiv Pandit, a Kashmiri Pandit who is currently a US citizen, Democrat Congresswoman from Michigan Rashid Tlaib joined a panel featuring known Islamists calling for ‘Jihad’ in Kashmir. Expressing his shock, Rajiv Pandit said Tlaib attended the event organised by a group that glorifies globally designated terrorists.

In his tweet, Pandit tagged Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, calling for an Ethics investigation against Congresswoman Tlaib for colluding with Islamic terrorists to propagate anti-India views, especially on Kashmir.

As per Pandita, an event -‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ – was organised by a pro-Pakistan Islamic organisation called ‘Justice for All‘ to pay homage to ‘Kashmiri’ people who have lost lives in the last seven decades.

However, the organisation ‘Justice for All’ that has been posing itself to be a ‘human rights organisation’ is nothing but a front of terror organisations, he said. It is important to note that ‘Justice for All’ is linked to an organisation called Sound Vision in Chicago, which itself an offshoot of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).

The information was first shared by the Investigative Project on its website.

Rashid Tlaib’s open support for terror groups

It is important to note that ICNA is a notorious Islamic organisation in North America that has intimate links with terror groups such as Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamic terror organisations. As for the ICNA is concerned, it is widely known that the organisation is a front for Pakistan-based terror groups to push global propaganda against India, especially on the issue of Kashmir. Several anti-India propagandists, including convicted Pakistani spy and lobbyist Ghulam Nabi Fai, regularly speak at events organised by ICNA.

Not just it, the ICNA had glorified US-designated global terrorist, Syed Salahuddin in their magazine ‘The Message’. The ICNA has hailed Syed Salahuddin as the ‘undisputed leader of the Mujahideen that is struggling to liberate the territory of Kashmir from brutal Indian occupation.

“Syed Salahuddin has led a vigorous and heroic struggle and quickly become a legend in the area over the years,” reads an interview published by ICNA in its magazine ‘The Message’.

Syed Salahuddin is the chief of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist outfit Hizb-ul Mujahideen and is also the key mastermind of the attack on Pathankot airbase in Punjab in 2016. The Hizbul terrorist also operates the United Jihad Council (UJC) that serves as an umbrella organisation for other radical Islamist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

It is indeed shocking to realise that an elected American Congresswoman is openly embracing people associated with an organisation like ICNA that has expressed its open support to Islamic terror groups.

Rahida Tlaib shares stage with Islamic terror sympathiser and son of terrorist-duo

In addition to this, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib shared the stage and spoke alongside another hardcore Islamic terror supporter, Ahmed bin Qasim. Ahmed bin Qasim is the son of terrorist Asiya Andrabi and Qasim Faktoo. Faktoo is the founding member of terror outfit Hizb-ul Mujahideen and Asiya Andrabi is currently in jail for her involvement in terror activities inside Kashmir.

Like his parents, Ahmed bin Qasim is nothing but an Islamic terror sympathiser who has often glorified terrorists. In a tweet, Qasim had hailed Riyaz Naikoo – the top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander after the Indian Armed Forces killed him in May 2020. Calling Indian territories of Kashmir as a ‘colonial occupation’, he had shared an alleged quote of terrorist Riyaz Naikoo vowing to fight against India.

Rashida Tlaib, a known terror sympathiser and anti-India propagandist

Rashida Tlaib, a Muslim Congresswoman from Michigan, is known for her anti-India propaganda. Along with fellow Democratic party leaders such as Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib has been at the forefront of leading anti-India stand inside the House of Representatives.

In 2019, Tlaib, perhaps instigated by the Pakistan lobby in the United States, had introduced a resolution against Indian seeking to condemn the Modi government for scrapping special status of Kashmir. The resolution moved by Tlaib had called for “condemning the human rights violations taking place in Jammu and Kashmir” Additionally, challenging India’s sovereignty, this house resolution also called for supporting “Kashmiri self-determination”.

Interestingly, her resolution was announced on Twitter by a Pakistani American and a senior official of Council on American Islamic Relations. Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), along with ICNA, are two Islamist organisation that openly promote terror groups in the name of advocacy and ‘charity’.

However, in a major embarrassment, Tlaib did not even get a single co-sponsor for her resolution.

With Rashida Tlaib actively backing terror sympathisers and pro-Pakistan groups, one can expect that she will only indulge in more anti-India propaganda in the coming days. The victory of Biden in the recent controversial US Presidential elections has also unleashed the likes of Jaypal, Cortez and Ilhan Omar, who could also try to meddle in India’s affairs as it is not an unknown fact today that they all have an inherent hatred against Modi government.

Toolkit case: Disha Ravi moves Delhi HC, seeks Police does not ‘leak’ content of her chats, communication to media

International protestor Greta Thunberg’s India aide Disha Ravi today moved Delhi High Court seeking direction to the Delhi Police to not leak any material related to the investigation in the ‘toolkit’ controversy case.

She has also directed appropriate action against media houses CNN News 18, India Today and Times Now. Earlier, media reports showed how Ravi planned and distributed the contentious toolkit accidentally leaked by Swedish protestor Greta Thunberg, has reportedly accessed the Whatsapp chat between the two activists.

Ravi has sought to restrain the media houses from publishing the contents and/or extracts of any alleged private chats between her and third parties or reporting in a manner that is violative of fair trial rights and right to privacy.

After the Swedish activist leaked the anti-India toolkit on social media, Disha had messaged, “Can we just not say anything at all for a while. I am going to talk to lawyers.” India Today report revealed further damning conversation between Disha and Greta.

Disha: S**t.. S**t

Disha (9:25 pm): Sending it to you..

Disha (9:35 pm): Ok can you not tweet the toolkit at all..can we just not say anything at all for a while? I am gonna talk to lawyers. I am sorry but our names are on it and we can literally get UAPA against us.

Disha (9:39 pm): Are you ok?

Greta (9:40 pm): I need to write something

Disha (9:40 pm): Can you give me five minutes I am talking to the lawyers

Greta (9:41 pm): These hate storms happen sometimes and they’re really intense

Disha (9:41 pm): I am really really sorry.. We are all panicking because this is getting really bad here

Disha Ravi then assures the Swedish Andolan-jeevi that her name will remain in the clear, adding that they will have to deactivate all social media accounts.

Disha (9:41 pm)But we will make sure you are in the clear

Ravi was arrested from her house in Bengaluru by Delhi Police. The police believe that the 21-year-old ‘climate activist’ was the editor of the “toolkit Google doc” and “key conspirator” in the creation and dissemination of the document. Disha, along with lawyer-activist Nikita Jacob, also attended a Zoom call with pro-Khalistani Mo Dhaliwal of Poetic Justice Foundation.

Ravi’s police custody ends on 19th February 2021.

The ‘iPhone scam’ saga, a US-based businessman, allegations of fraud, hacking and what we know so far: Latest details

Note: This is an updated version of an earlier article that had covered the allegations of a scam in the case.

For a while now, a US-based businessman became a part of the non-Left ecosystem on Twitter. Several high profile individuals followed him and patronised him. Neel Patel alias Hitesh Patel had also promised to launch a social media platform that would rival Twitter. However, recently, grievous allegations have surfaced against the individual. Only recently, he had sent iPhones to non-Left celebrities as a mark of ‘appreciation’. However, few knew that a potential scam was lurking behind the scenes.

How it started and how many on social media got involved

On social media, one often follows mutuals and those who at least appear to be authentic. One of the important aspects could also be how ideological alignment plays a role in how a person gets espoused and the level of faith that he manages to build. Neel Patel, on the face of it, or at least based on his tweets on social media, appeared to be someone who aligned with the non-Left in India. Over time, he managed to gain the trust of several people.

Sunaina Holey was one such individual who started professionally working with Neel. According to her social media posts, she worked with Neel Patel for 3 months and drew a salary of Rs 2 lac for the entire duration. She has taken to Twitter to say that she quit the job after she found out about the scam that was unfolding.

Other than Sunaina, it seems that Neel could win the trust of several others on Social Media who ended up tweeting about his business or relaying their faith in him.

Once allegations of a scam surfaced, those who had ended up endorsing Neel Patel after he had gained their trust, offered an explanation saying that they had no financial association with Neel Patel. Mohit tweeted to say that he believed there really was no ‘iPhone scam’ at all.

Mohit was not alone and several others received gifts and vouchers from Neel Patel. However, not everyone tweeted in support of his business interests. Many in social media argued that even the acceptance of gifts was wrong, even if it was done before allegations of the scam surfaced.

The allegations of the potential scam

The allegation of potential scam came to the fore on February 15, 2021, when Netizens Nishant Singh and Abhimanyu Srana came up with a thread alleging that one Twitter user Neel Patel alias Hitesh Patel has been scamming people for more than 15 years. Nishant has uploaded a 30+ minute video on his YouTube channel and made a detailed thread on what he has dug on Patel, a US-based businessman, in the last couple of months.

OpIndia went through the allegations and explanations given by Neel. We also contacted Suhel Khan, whose name was mentioned in the thread as one of the alleged co-conspirators. Here is what we learned till now.

Allegations made by Nishant and Abhimanyu

In the thread and video, Nishant and Abhimanyu gave an overview of what they allegedly found about Neel Patel’s ‘businesses’ in the last 15 years. They made several allegations which we will list down one by one.

The Sweden Visa Scam of 2005-06

The first allegation they made against Neel was about the Sweden Visa Scam of 2005-06. Nishant claimed that in 2005-06 Patel ran a fake job scam in which he promised jobs in Sweden. For that, he took hefty fees from every individual who had applied. To complete the paperwork, he asked everyone to submit documents required for the work visa. He arranged fake documents, including fake passports for those who could not arrange the required documents. Nishant claimed that Patel had stayed in one Hotel Aaram near Ahmedabad for a few months and met people at the hotel itself.

When he failed to secure a work visa for anyone, his clients demanded a refund for the payments they made. At that time, he allegedly threatened them that as they had submitted fake documents, they have committed fraud. To save themselves from any legal prosecution, no one filed a complaint against him. However, the Sweden government got a hint of what he was doing, and they issued an official statement in which they clarified that there were no such job offers for Sweden and people should not give money to anyone to secure a job in Sweden.

Scams in the United States

After the scam unveiled, Patel allegedly shifted to the United States. Nishant further alleged that during that time period Bitcoins were gaining popularity. Neel found an opportunity in the market and started investing in Bitcoins. He joined several groups and talked to people worldwide while presenting himself as an expert in the market. After spending some time in the groups, he slowly started luring people for his new venture named Pennytraders.

Abimanyu alleged that Patel told people that he had installed scalpers that collect scraps of bitcoins and promised profit worth USD 5 to USD 10 or even more to the investors. He used the same template everywhere. He allegedly gave a return to a few influential people in the beginning who promoted him and showed how they made money with Patel’s help. When hundreds of people joined his scheme, and he collected enough money, Pennytraders was closed abruptly.

Autotrader – the trading scam

Abhimanyu further explained how Patel lured people into his new venture Autotrader in which he allegedly gave trials to people. When they were convinced, they started adding money into his application for trading. At one point a man invested USD 17,500 in Autotrader. After some time his profits reached to USD 50,000. Due to some family emergency, when that investor tried to withdraw the money, it never went through.

Nishant said when people say that they may never get the money back, they forgot about the profit and started working on getting a refund of the original amount. It took months for them to receive refunds, and several investors are still waiting for the refunds. The person who was trying to withdraw money for the family emergency could only get it back allegedly after one high profile individual got involved. A few months ago, a petition was also filed against Patel on Change.org.

The Bitcell scam

The alleged Bitcell scam was an interesting venture by Patel. He claimed that people could lease Bitcoin by giving only 20% of the cost of Bitcoin and earn profits. At that time, Bitcoin’s price was rising at its all-time high. In this scam, another person identified as Suhel Khan was involved. Nishant alleged that Khan had some Congress connections too and is a Gujarat based businessman.

The alleged theft of Twitter ID of a band

Nishant alleged that Patel stole a band’s official Twitter handled before 2020 and started using it with his own name. The name of the band was Night Terrors of 1927. In January 2020, one of the band members approached Twitter and asked them to reclaim the account, but he could not succeed.

Corona lockdown became an opportunity for Patel

Nishant and Abhimanyu claimed that when lockdown happened in India in March 2020, Patel saw an opportunity and invested lakhs of Rupees in the name of charity and helping people in need. He allegedly made his image of a successful trader and businessman who do social work. He got in touch with several nationalists including Major Punia and several others who believed his stories.

NaradPay, Squeaks and iPhone scam

Nishant said that once he gained the trust of the nationalists, he allegedly formulated another scam on Twitter. He offered iPhones, Samsung Phones, tablets and other gadgets for free as Diwali gift. Everyone was free to avail the offer, and all they needed to pay was shipping fees. Nishant alleged that almost 8000 gadgets were sold out of which only a few hundreds were delivered. He claimed that he is a partner with Apple which Nishant alleged is a fake claim.

Nishant said that when someone ordered any gadget via his social media application, he gained access to the gallery and copied all content, including personal photographers without any intimation. When someone tried to expose him on Twitter or any social media platform, Patel allegedly used sensitive personal photographs to shut their voices. Some people did try to expose him, but they never got the response they should have got from the social media platform. On the other hand, Patel allegedly sent a troll army to send threats to those who tried to expose him.

Patel also claimed that his relative is associated with BJP and his father was PM Modi’s classmate. If Patel is to believe, he has to deliver over 8000 gadgets which will cost him over Rs.40 crore. Nishant alleged that Patel does not have this kind of funds and will never be able to fulfil the promises he made.

The warehouse address that Patel gave was also fake. Nishant said that when they sent someone to verify the address, they found that it was the office of an IT company. The owner of the IT company claimed that he had attended over 20 people who came to inquire about the whereabouts of Patel.

The egyaan scam

Another scam Patel allegedly ran was of egyaan. He offered classes to people in which he would teach them how to trade in the market. In return, he had charged as high as Rs.45,000 from every person. Around 800-900 people joined his classes. When people started to realize there is no benefit from his sessions, they started to demand a refund. Anyone who demanded refund was allegedly kicked out from the groups.

The Sqeakscoin scam

Patel launched his own cryptocurrency by the name of Squeakscoin. He offered every coin for Rs.132,000. To promote his currency, he offered to buy one get one free offer with every coin. He also offered a referral bonus for everyone who brought more members to the scheme. In reality, according to Abhimanyu, Squeakscoin has no encryption based on blockchain. He further said that what the buyer gets is an over-priced graphic image and nothing else.

During this scam, Patel alleged made several crores. Nishant was able to access details of only one account in which Patel had received over Rs.9 crore out of which around Rs.9 crore were already withdrawn and the balance was mere few lakh rupees. It is unclear how much money Patel made out of this scam.

Every time someone pressurized Patel to return their money, he duped someone else and paid their investment to old investors. He kept scamming people for years by circulating money from one person to another. Nishant further alleged that While successfully running several scams, Patel saved credit card information of his clients and used these details to pay-off those who pressurized him to return their money. As per Nishant, Patel had some cases filed against him in the US for the alleged fraud.

The account Nishant was able to access was in the name of Patel’s parents. It is unclear if they know what their son is allegedly doing.

Suhel Khan’s side of the story

OpIndia contacted Suhel Khan to learn his side of the story. Suhel said that he was associated with Patel only till 2018. When he stopped working with Patel due to health issues, many clients were waiting for payments or refunds. Khan said that in the screenshots which were in the thread were used he was just explaining how to punch PIN codes to withdraw funds. Khan repeatedly claimed he never intended to dupe anyone.

In 2020, Patel again contacted Khan and asked him if he wanted to join in selling cryptocurrency. Khan said he asked him to first refund the money of every person from previous businesses and only then he will think of working on anything new. Khan who had served in Air Force for 23 years and currently working as a contractor running his own drilling company, claimed that he is only in contact with Neel to make sure whoever has any pending refunds get their money back.

Khan further added that he was shocked to see his name in the thread as he never lied to anyone and even he gave his Bitcoin to Patel for trading which he never returned. Khan also said that while there are speculations that he is associated with any political party, in reality, he has no connection with Congress, BJP or any other political party.

Neel Patel’s explanation

Neel Patel (Nto1927) posted a video on YouTube explaining his side of the story. In the video, he tried to clarify a lot of allegations.

Neel has alleged that what Nishant and Abhimanyu tried to show does not prove any allegations against him. They have no proof whatsoever, and the screenshots they have provided are allegedly not authentic. He said, “Those who lie, place allegations and walk away. Those who are innocents have to prove that the allegations are wrong.”

Neel further said that no one should trust him based on the explanation he gave, but everyone should listen to the both sides and then decide who is right and who is wrong. He further claimed that if anyone can prove that he is wrong, he would face the consequences.

“Don’t blame the innocent”- said, Neel

Neel said that everyone is targeting those who have RTed, replied or had contact with him at some point in time including Major Punia, Nupur Sharma from OpIndia and others. He said if the expose is about him, there is no need to drag others in the process. Neel further said that anyone except Sunaina Holey never had any financial transactions with him. He has never paid anything to anyone, and these people should not be dragged into the controversy.

Neel said that he had paid Sunaina 2 lakh in total for the work she has done for him. No one else that is being targeted ever got any money from him. Some people from RW have RTed his tweets, but those were not promotional RTs, and those people were only promoting his made-in-India venture.

Clarification about Suhel Khan

Neel said that it was unnecessary to bring the name of an ex-Air Force officer in the expose. He further added that Suhel is neither from Gujarat, nor he has any connection to any political party, including Congress. In his alleged expose, Nishant had claimed Suhel is somehow connected to the Congress Party.

Clarification over the Twitter handle

Neel said that when he got the ID, it was available. He claimed that he is not sure how old tweets were recovered, but he has decided to drop his previous ID, and if he ever comes back to Twitter, he would use a new ID. He claimed that he has already contacted Twitter for a new ID.

Allegations of citizenship and travel to India

Neel said that he holds an Indian passport. He is living in the US, but he is still using an Indian passport. Nishant had alleged that Neel never came back to India after 2006 which Neel said is misinformation. Neel showed immigration stamps on his passport in the video that included three visits to India in 2008, 2011 and 2013. He also showed stamps of other countries including Singapore, Uganda (where his father’s business was located), UAE, Kenya, Canada, Malaysia and other locations. Neel also claimed that he got his business transferred from Singapore to Canada.

Reply to allegations of fake job offers in Sweden

Nishant, in his expose, had put up an advisory from the Swedish embassy in India that warns people about the alleged job scams. Neel said that the screenshot Nishant shared was not for Neel. He further added that such advisories are issued by every embassy that has an office in India as such scams are common in the immigration business.

Neel said that as Nishant has claimed he duped over 700 people in a job scam. If Nishant can bring only seven in front of the camera, he would be ready to face the consequences. Neel said it is practically impossible to shut the voice of 700+ people who got duped by someone. Neel further added that it is hard to believe that such a scam happened and there was no FIR or news reports.

Allegations over political connections

Neel said he never claimed his father was MLA. However, his uncle, late Vitthalbhai Somdas Patel, was three time-MLA from Kalol Assembly in Gujarat. He said as VS Patel is no longer with them, how could he take his name and threaten anyone stating his political connections. While talking about his father, Neel said that his father is a trustee in around 30 organizations that help poor and old people.

Who provided information to Nishant and Abhimanyu?

Neel said that the information provided to Nishant and Abhimanyu was from one Prabhakar Thapa who is from Germany. He further said that he is in the same business as Neel and often tries to hurt his reputation. He also alleged that it is Thapa who often scam people. Neel further alleged that Thapa created a ‘toolkit’ to show him in a bad light with fake screenshots which no one can authenticate.

Neel claimed that a day before the allegations were put in place against him, Thapa had contacted him and tried to extort $5000. The screenshots are available on Neel’s Twitter profile.

Neel said that Thapa had contacted him to get his funds cleared in PennyRobot. He had issued a cheque of $20,000, but that could not be cleared as he never received the social security number of the payee. He said for his own safety, he cannot issue such a large amount to anyone without knowing where the money is going.

Image of echeque he had allegedly issued

Reply to the Bitcell and PennyRobot

Neel said that he is a broker and people give him money to invest. While trading everyone, including the broker, may face losses. He invests money and gives profits to his clients. If someone had asked for a withdrawal, based on the market conditions, he had approved the withdrawal at the earliest. He said that in the Bitcell group, there are no negative reviews. Neel further claimed that anyone is welcome to check his group.

For PennyRobot, he said that he has so far approved withdrawals worth thousands of dollars. He claimed as he did not process any transaction without a paper trail, he can provide a list of all the withdrawals with transaction details anytime.

Allegations over Squeakscoin

Neel, while answering the allegations related to Squeakcoin said he is not sure if Nishant has any knowledge of Blockchain technology. He showed his panel in Etherscan where he has two accounts, one by the name of Squeakscoin which has not been launched yet and second by the name of Squeaks Tokens. Neel claimed that anyone could verify the existence of Squeaks Token on Etherscan as it is a verified ERC-20 token.

Screenshot of Squeaks Token panel

Neel further claimed that Ref Wayne, a famous forex investor who also held zoom discussion with Neel for his students, has promised to invest 87 million in Squeaks. Neel added that he does not need to do any scams if he has such investments lined up.

Allegations of court cases against him and his wife

While talking about the alleged cases against him, Neel said that Nishant should show proof of cases that he had mentioned in his video. He said there was a tax case registered against him from 2015 which he contested and won in the court. Neel further added that every case against some Hitesh Patel is not against him as there are other Hitesh Patels too.

Also, he said that Nishant should not have dragged his wife’s name in the alleged expose. Neel has asked Nishant to show the FIR that was allegedly registered against his wife. He further added that he had initiated legal action against Nishant and Abhimanyu for defaming his wife’s name.

The infamous iPhone scam

Neel said that he is ready to pay for Nishant’s flight ticket to Gandhinagar where he can visit his office and confirm how many phones he had sent so far. Neel showed an excel sheet and claimed only four phones are pending to be sent. He said he got over 5,000 orders which he had already filled. While talking about the pending 193 tablets and the tablets that were sent but of low quality, Neel said that he was at fault for choosing the wrong company for Tablets.

Details of gadgets ordered and pending

Neel said that he had given two options to the buyers that either they can donate the tablets to some NGO and wait for two months to get good quality tablets or they can donate the tablets to NGO and request refunds. Neel claimed that whoever asked for a refund got the money back. As the alleged expose is making rounds of social media, some people have claimed they did not get iPhones, but in reality, they never ordered. If there is any iPhone pending, the person can send Neel proof of purchase or choose to file an FIR against him. Neel further added that no one would come forward for legal action as there are no pending orders. He also mentioned that he would soon send the pending laptops too.

Neel said that he has 19 lakh pending funds with him and if anyone feels he has scammed them can file a case against him, but it is not correct to spread misinformation in the name of expose. Neel said that if had duped thousands of people, why someone has not yet filed any case against him.

Neel Patel also rejected allegations that he had access to any personal photographs of those who installed his app on their phones.

Rakesh Tikait attacks Mamata Banerjee over MSP, to move farmer protests to Bengal too

Rakesh Tikait, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader who has been one of the main voices in the farmer protests, has attacked Mamata Banerjee over Minimum Selling Price (MSP). He said he would take the protests to West Bengal in the coming days as farmers are not getting justified rates for their crops. Notably, during the months of April and May, assembly elections will be held in West Bengal.

While talking to IANS, Tikait further added that WB is near the sea. The farmers that are involved in fishing are troubled. As imports have increased in that region, farmers are losing their lives in Bengal. He further added that he is not bothered by the upcoming elections in the state but only wants to raise awareness.

He added that a mahapanchayat would be soon organised in West Bengal.

Rakesh Tikait, farmer protests, controversies and international connections

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait is one of the prominent names leading the farmer protests on Delhi Borders. He was named in the FIR registered by Delhi Police in connection to the January 26 riots in Delhi under several sections including section 307 (attempt to murder), section 147 (punishment for rioting) & 353 (assault/criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

Son of famous farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait, Rakesh Tikait had once supported the farm bills. However, by the end of 2020, he flipped and started talking against the Agriculture laws. He was also named in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. According to the residents of Muzaffarnagar, Rakesh Tikait and his brother, Naresh, had both been “primary culprits” for the gruesome communal flare-up witnessed by the town. Rakesh had reportedly attended the mahapanchayat on September 7, and the police had booked him for whipping up communal passions through his incendiary speeches.

Recently, Tikait accidentally revealed international connections to the farmer protests. He said the organisation he is associated with has its branches in 73 countries and he has an alliance with the Indian branch. The BKU spokesperson further added that the organisation he is associated with has also been protesting in Brazil, where efforts are being made to convert Brazillian labourers to farmers. “Brazil main hum mazdoor se kisaan bana rahe hai”, said Rakesh Tikait.

Answering to Prabhu Chawla’s question on whether they have been drawing support from all the 73 branches of the organisation across the globe, the BKU leader confirmed that all those members whose ideological preferences are similar to his have been supporting him.

On February 17, the Congress’s youth-leader-at-50 Rahul Gandhi made a gaffe during his address to the people of Puducherry that has raised several questions on his knowledge about the working of the Indian government. During his address, Gandhi called fishermen’ farmers of the sea’ and promised them a ‘ministry of fisheries’ at the centre. He asked, if ‘farmers of the land’ can have a ministry in Delhi, why ‘farmers of the sea’ don’t have the same.

India already has a Ministry of Fisheries

Giriraj Singh, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying corrected Gandhi and wrote that he should be aware of the fact that PM Modi had created the Ministry on May 31, 2019, soon after he took oath as PM for the second time. He also mentioned Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for which Rs.20,050 crore were allotted. He said, “Rahul Ji, You should know that on May 31, 2019, Modi Ji created the new ministry and started the Rs.20,050 Cr Rupees PMMSY which is several times more than the central government’s expenditure since independence to 2014 (3682 cr).”

Rahul Gandhi had asked a question to Ministry of Fisheries on February 2, 2021

Though Gandhi had promised a ministry on February 17, he had asked a question to Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying on February 2, 2021, which is on record. As per the Lok Sabha records, Gandhi had questioned the Ministry about Fisheries Infrastructure and Aquaculture Development Fund.

Questions asked by MP Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha on February 2, 2021 to the Department of Fisheries under Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying

Gandhi’s question was divided into several parts asking about the details of programmes that were being implemented for aquaculture infrastructure, measures government is taking to provide support to fisherfolk, details of monitoring committee under the fund, state-wise details of loans given to eligible entities under the fund and state-wise details of funds allocated to self-help groups and marginal farmers.

Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries replied [PDF] to his question in detail. He said that a dedicated fund was created in 2018-19 named Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) with a total funds size of Rs 7522.48 crore. Further, PMMSY was also implemented by the Department for strengthening the infrastructure.

The fund provides financial support for different activities, including constructing ponds, installing cages in reservoirs, fish processing units, and more. The Central Approval and Monitoring Committee (CAMC) constituted under FIDF has approved projects worth Rs.3,638.37 crore and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs. 348.09 crore to the Government of Tamil Nadu for Fishing Harbour projects.

Rahul Gandhi’s gaffe raised serious questions

Though Rahul Gandhi can be given the benefit of the doubt, for being just Rahul Gandhi and goofing up once again, his address does raise some serious questions about his knowledge, intentions and his working as a Member of Parliament. There are some questions that Gandhi has to answer:

  • Rahul Gandhi is Member of Parliament from Wayanad, Kerala. The state of Kerala is known for fisheries activities. If Gandhi is unaware of the Ministry itself, how would he be able to enable fishermen of his constituency to get benefits from the Ministry?
  • Gandhi had asked a detailed question to the Ministry on record in Lok Sabha. If he is unaware of the existence of the Ministry, how did he manage to submit the question? If he is unaware that Ministry of fisheries exists, was the question raised by a proxy on his behalf?
  • Last but not least, who writes the speeches for Rahul Gandhi? If there is a team that formulates what Gandhi will talk about, why Congress has hired uninformed people in his team? If Gandhi decides himself, why Congress has not yet formed a team of informed individuals to guide him on what to talk about in his speeches?

One may only wonder if Rahul Gandhi is just uninformed or there is a conspiracy from within Congress to sabotage his chance of becoming the party chief and PM candidate once again.

While Rahul Gandhi continues to rant against Ambani-Adani, Adani group gets control of Dighi Port in Maharashtra

While Congress prince Rahul Gandhi keeps ranting against wealth creators in the country, dragging the name of corporate giants Ambani and Adani in every speech and statement to derive negative public sentiments against the private sector, the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has won a bid to develop the Dighi Port Limited (DPL) in Maharashtra.

According to the reports, the APSEZ has acquired the Dighi Port Limited for Rs 705 crore, which was under insolvency proceedings in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) since 2018. The Adani Ports has already obtained the concession rights that is approved by the Maharashtra Maritime Board. Earlier, the Maharashtra Maritime Board, under the Maharashtra government, was tasked with Dighi Port’s administration.

The port, promoted by industrialist Vijay Kalantri, had gone bankrupt with a debt of Rs 3,098 crore to lenders. The Committee of Creditors (CoC) ed by Bank of India had received bids from JNPT, APSEZ and Veritas Consortium, and the APSEZ bid was selected by it.

Following the acquisition, Adani Ports can now service customers in Maharashtra, which includes the highly industrial areas in the Mumbai and Pune regions.

DPL is the 12th port to join APSEZ’s string of economic gateways across India’s eastern and western coast. This will establish the company’s footprint in Maharashtra, which has one of the largest coastlines in the country.

Adani Port to invest Rs 10,000 crore to develop Dighi port

In addition to this, Adani Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd also plans to invest over Rs 10,000 crore to develop the port into a multi-cargo port with world-class infrastructure. Adani ports will also develop rail and road infrastructure for seamless and efficient cargo movement in the Dighi Port.

Adani Ports Ltd will also strengthen and upgrade the existing infrastructure and invest in the development of facilities for the dry, container, and liquid cargo.

It is expected that DPL will be developed as an alternative gateway to JNPT and will invite and support the development of port-based industries on port-land. The development of another port in Maharashtra will spur further investments across various industries and provide a tremendous boost to Maharashtra’s industrial development and growth. These investments will contribute to employment generation and socio-economic development of the port’s hinterland.

Karan Adani, CEO and Whole Time Director of APSEZ said, “The successful acquisition of DPL adds another milestone in the Adani Port’s target of creating a string of ports to increase service coverage to the entire economic hinterland of India. With our growth focus, experience, and expertise in turning around acquisitions, we are confident that making DPL value accretive for all our stakeholders. Our investment & capacity augmentation plan will be aligned with policies of the Government of Maharashtra for development of ports, associated infrastructure, industrial and socio-economic development in the state”.

Rahul Gandhi abuses Adani even as MVA govt signs deal with Adani

Interestingly, the decision to hand over Dighi Port by the Maharashtra government to Adani comes at a time when Gandhi-scion Rahul Gandhi has constantly been abusing India’s private sector. Rahul Gandhi, who has been portraying the private players in the country as land grabbers and profiteers, has been relentlessly attacking the likes of Ambanis and Adanis for investing in various development projects across the country.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has time and again claimed that only Adani and Ambani (Adani Group chief Gautam Adani and Reliance Group chief Mukesh Ambani) benefit from all the reforms the Modi government brings in. PM Modi, in his recent address in the Parliament, had criticised such baseless attacks on wealth creators and entrepreneurs. He had stated that the private sector brings jobs and prosperity and the political leaders need to respect that.

“Soft spoken climate activists”, Khalistanis and why we need to talk about liberal privilege

In late 2014, a 12 year old boy called Tamir Rice was playing with a toy pistol at a park in Cleveland, Ohio. Someone saw that and called the 911 emergency line about a male who might be pointing a gun at random people. The police arrived and asked for a show of hands. Apparently, the 12 year old failed to comply. So the police shot him twice, including at least once in the face. The boy died.

This is the kind of the frustration that led to the “Black Lives Matter” movement erupting in cities across the United States last year. Yes, perhaps it was indeed difficult for the police to tell from a distance if it was a toy gun or not. Cleveland is a dangerous city and the police took no chances. But at the end of the day, an innocent 12 year old child died. The officers faced no criminal charges. Would Tamir Rice have been judged so harshly, whether by the person who called 911 or the paranoid officers who shot him dead, if he were white? Despite apparent equality before the law, there is systemic racism in American society. As a result, people are conditioned to see African Americans as more dangerous and inherently a threat. The BLM movement demanded that American society remove these scales from their eyes.

The term we are looking for is “privilege,” the most beloved of woke liberals.

Desi liberals, never the ones to miss out on hot new western trends, have tried to adapt this to the Indian context. There’s savarna privilege. And of course, there is male privilege. And I honestly agree they should. Indeed, be it in politics, media, intelligentsia or even the ranks of mid to higher level executives in government or private sector, how much representation do we have of people from backward castes? In fact, one single upper caste Hindi speaking family has controlled the Prime Minister’s chair for over five decades! Did you realize that India currently has just one female Chief Minister?

Everyone thinks they worked their way up and in most ways they really did. But there appears to be some invisible hand, working in the background, that ensures that only members of certain groups rise to the top. That invisible hand is called “privilege.”

But there is liberal privilege too. And like every other form of privilege, those who enjoy it cannot see it’s invisible hand. And in the backdrop of current events, liberal privilege has never been more obvious to the rest of us.

Consider the case of the climate “activist” who was recently been picked up from Bengaluru and sent to custody for questioning in connection to the Greta Thunberg toolkit case. The liberal media and even some sections more sympathetic to the government, raised an alarm. How could the powers that run this country do this? She is like 21 or 22 years old, soft spoken, a dog lover and a vegan. And thus, too innocent to be guilty.

Then, reports surfaced claiming that she might have known well that she could get charged under UAPA. I cannot independently confirm these reports, but I do see how the goalposts were shifted immediately. Now, the liberals asked. So what even if it is true? Haven’t we all been adorable rebels in those wonder years of late teens and early twenties?

Then, another round of reports surfaced. It appears that some others wanted in connection with the toolkit case were still absconding and their lawyers admitted in writing before the court that their clients had met Khalistani Mo Dhaliwal over the internet. Again, I cannot independently confirm what actually happened and who may or may not be guilty. I can only point out how the goalposts were shifted immediately afterwards. Again, so what even it is true, they asked. Perhaps some climate activists were a little naive and did not check the background of everyone they spoke to.

Remember that the first round of objections came when people even spoke of a coordinated campaign from abroad to malign India over the so called farmers protests. Liberals said that global celebs had just been tweeting out of conscience. Then, they admitted there was a toolkit and a coordinated campaign. But so what? What’s wrong with having a toolkit? There was no explicit plan of violence mentioned in the toolkit. And even if Khalistani groups were coordinating to prepare the toolkit, so what?

You can see, how at each stage, the liberals are assumed to have the best, most innocent of intentions. Now, a presumption of innocence is a very good thing, but the media rarely behaves like a court of law. We all know how the media loves to rush to judgement. This time, for some reason, they are holding back. What is this invisible hand?

It’s liberal privilege. If you are a liberal, you don’t see it. Because you are sitting in its lap. Believe me, the rest of us see you on this high pedestal, cradled, pampered and privileged.

Consider the tone here.

The Wire on ‘militant Hinduism’

Militant? Radiating mean energy? A liberal was taking a taxi through Noida, when she looked out of her window to see a Hanuman Jayanti procession. Or as she called, it a “sea of saffron.” By her accounts at least, it does not appear that the men threatened her explicitly or anyone else. But she was so triggered that she went into a rant over supposed militant Hinduism. And the Angry Hanuman artwork, which has gone viral on Indian roads.

How dare this Hanuman appear “angry” and not smile at her? It must be the militant Hinduism. Are other tattoos and artwork interpreted and over-interpreted like this? How about the Communist hammer and sickle? Does it remind anyone of the systemic massacre of 100 million people under Communism? It doesn’t matter. The piece on “Angry Hanuman” was duly published in the Wire and circulated by liberals everywhere.

That’s liberal privilege at work. As soon as someone puts their Hindu identity on display, they just begin to seem more sinister.

Okay, so some of the people in the procession were carrying swords. Display of weapons in religious processions is nothing new. One particularly peaceful community does it regularly on Muharram. Further, many of the people in the current farmers protest were brandishing swords too. And in fact, some of them did turn their swords upon policemen. It reminded liberals of nothing except the sanctity of their supposed cause. Even when they stormed the Red Fort and planted a different flag, liberals were not shaken. What’s wrong they asked? Some of them pointed out how some unit of the Indian Army also uses a similar looking flag.

That’s liberal privilege. You see what you want to see. Because you have privilege, even someone who storms the Red Fort and plants another flag on Republic Day is declared a peaceful person paying tribute to the glorious traditions of the Indian Army. Meanwhile, some guy strolls down the road in a saffron shirt. He becomes a suspected militant.

This is the kind of thing that happened to Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio. Because he was black, he seemed like a deadly threat even as a 12 year old in a park with a toy gun. However, Trump supporters, most of them white, who literally stormed the US Capitol building on Jan 6 were treated more indulgently by police. That’s white privilege.

If a Hindu in India puts their religious identity on display in any way, the questions begin immediately. Why is Hanuman not smiling in your artwork? Why did you say “Jai Shri Ram” and not “Jai Siya Ram”? And why did this vegetable seller put a saffron flag on their cart? What’s the plan?

But if some climate activist meets with a Khalistani, it was probably just a soft spoken young person who may or may not have made a teeny tiny mistake at the very worst.

In contrast, the fear psychosis about the “angry Hanuman” image spread quickly and across borders. Even the Washington Post carried an opinion piece about this menacing new threat.

If a BJP worker in Bengal today says the name of Ram, they are met with outright xenophobia. Why say Ram and not Durga? Are you agents of some kind of demographic or cultural invasion of Bengal? Even Amartya Sen appears to endorse this kind of thinking. He told an audience at Jadavpur University that he asked his four year old grand daughter who her favourite god is. Apparently, the child took the name of Durga. Which apparently means that anyone who says Jai Shri Ram might be looking to beat people up. In other words, if you differ even slightly from the cultural identity of my family, you are an outsider and possibly a criminal. The definition of xenophobia. But “liberals” made posters of Amartya Sen’s remarks in full and posted them all across Bengal.

Privilege is a way that dehumanizes the “other” in an insidious manner. And that is why when 18 year old BJP worker Trilochan Mahato is found hanging from a pole in Purulia in Bengal, the nation doesn’t react the way it should. The murderers even wrote on his T-shirt that this was his punishment for working for BJP. But the reaction you would expect from the media never came. Because BJP workers and Hindu right wing in general have been far too dehumanized for the act to shake the conscience of the nation.

Consider what happened to Bajrang Dal activist Rinku Sharma in Delhi the other day. He was brutally murdered by members from “another community” (couldn’t crack that code, sorry). The police say it was something like a business argument that began at a birthday party. Some others say there was a communal motive behind the murder, because the victim had been actively collecting funds for the building of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The truth will come out in court, I’m sure.

The question is the media reaction. Would the media have rushed to accept the police version of events if the religious identities were reversed? Remember the death of Junaid Khan? Even the High Court ruled out any communal angle in the murder and said it was a crime committed over a seat dispute in a train. Nevertheless, many still insisted that the murder of Junaid Khan was an instance of militant Hinduism!

And let’s not forget the Godhra carnage. A number of the accused have been convicted by the High Court years ago, but it doesn’t matter. In popular liberal folklore, the carnage is still an accident or unsolved mystery at best and a conspiracy by BJP at worst. Because the people who perished in the fires that engulfed S-6 compartment of Sabarmati Express were Hindu activists. Liberals refuse to see them as human beings.

Once liberals have dehumanized the Hindu right or anyone suspected of being influenced by the Hindu right, it becomes easy to laugh away even their deaths. Remember Rajbala Devi?

The Hindu right often makes fun of emotional tags that the liberals like to stick on their own. Soft spoken, headmaster’s son, maths teacher, cricket lover, too young, too old, vegan, dog lover, etc. But there is more to this than meets the eye. What is happening is that liberals see one side as full human beings. Even if they were terrorists, they are somebody’s son or daughter. They probably fell in love, had crushes sometime or other. They were all human. Unless they were suspected of being sympathetic to the Hindu right. In which case they are dehumanized and so their lives don’t matter. Perhaps Rajbala Devi was soft spoken too. Did anyone check?

If you want to understand how this is all about privilege and class, see what they said recently about Sachin Tendulkar. After Sachin tweeted about our internal matter of farm protests being, well … India’s internal matter, an article in Caravan mocked his “moral timidity.” They related this to to his origins in the “salaried, lower middle-class.” In other words, so called activism is a privileged kid’s game. The privileged kids come up with the big liberal ideas that drive the nation forward. The rest of us apparently submit tamely to whoever is in power. If you are not a liberal, you have no mind. You are on the edges of humanity.

You didn’t think anyone could condescend to Sachin Tendulkar, did you? But that is what privilege is. Incidentally, the person who wrote this article left a two line bio at the end, as is common. The bio establishes that the author is an important person, whose work has appeared even in the New York Times. It made me wonder. What do you think Sachin has put in his bio? So I looked it up on Twitter. Sachin’s bio just says “proud Indian.” Two words, which make him just one of 1.3 billion commoners. See? Told you he’s a loser.
