West Bengal govt cites Supreme Court’s Shaheen Bagh order to stop ‘Nabanna march’ by BJYM, shuts down the secretariat for two days

After the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) announced a protest outside the state secretariat Nabanna today, the state government decided to shut down the secretariat for two days. The government also cited the Supreme Court order yesterday on Shaheen Bagh protest justifying preventing the protest rally from taking place.

The youth wing of BJP had planned a mega protest outside Nabanna on various issues like deteriorating law and order situation, continued attack and murder of BJP leaders, lack of employment opportunities etc. But while BJYM workers had started to move towards the secretariat, a large force of West Bengal police surrounded it, preventing the protesters from reaching the protest site.

The state govt cited the SC order of Shaheen Bagh protests delivered yesterday, where the apex court had ruled that public places can’t be occupied indefinitely for protests. Although the court order was against the long-time occupation of a public place for protests, which happened in Shaheen Bagh where a vital road was blocked for several months, the West Bengal govt used that order to prevent the protest from taking place. It may be noted that the Trinamool Congress had supported the anti-CAA protests, Mamata Banerjee being one of the most opponents of the amendment.

Replying to a letter from state BJYM, the state home department said that they are duty bound to prevent the protest as per Supreme Court order. “You are probably aware that, only a few hours back, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has given a judgement in Civil Appeal No 3282/2020 wherein the Hon’ble Apex Court has held certain principles regarding protest and occupation of sites and public places and public ways. You will kindly appreciate that we are duty-bound to comply with the solemn order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India,” said the letter sent by the special secretary of the home department to the BJYM.

The Nabanna Chalo rally was announced by BJYM three days ago, and till yesterday the state government had not saying about preventing it, perhaps unable to find a valid reason to completely stop it. But then the Supreme Court order of Shaheen Bagh protests came as a gift for the Mamata Banerjee government, and they didn’t waste any time before writing the letter to the organisation last night.

The letter cited the SC order saying that the administration can determine how to remove protesters from public places, and accordingly the permission for the planned protests is denied. The home department also cited Coronavirus as a reason for not allowing the protests, as it can lead to spread of the infection.

In addition to this, the letter also informed that holiday has been declared for two days on Thursday and Friday at Nabanna for sanitisation of the premises due to the pandemic, and no employee will attend office during these two days.

With the Nabanna remaining shut, the gherao of the premises becomes fruitless as nobody is coming to office for the protesters to block. But BJYM has decided that they will go ahead with the planned protests, as cancelling the event will mean accepting defeat. Accordingly, protester rallies started from several places in Kolkata and Howrah today, which were blocked by police in several places. Police also used lathi charge to stop the rallies, injuring some protesters. Several leaders also have been arrested by police at several places.

According to reports, around 40000 policemen have deployed in the city to maintain law and order during the protests. A three-layer security ring has been established around Nabanna so that protesters can’t reach it. Police also removed stones and bricks kept near roadsides for construction. Barricades also have been put at important places in Kolkata and Howrah from security point of view.

Indian Air Force Day 2020: Air Force celebrates 88th anniversary, newly inducted Rafale fighter jets make its debut

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is observing its 88th foundation day on Thursday, 8th October. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh greeted the Indian Air Force on its foundation day.

A spectacular air show was organised at the Hindon air base in Ghaziabad near Delhi on the 88th foundation day of Indian Air Force. On the occasion, a grand parade-cum-investiture ceremony was held at the Hindon air base.

One of the main attractions of this year’s foundation day were the newly acquired Rafale fighter jets which also took part in the show for the first time. The newly inducted Rafale exhibited various manoeuvres during the Indian Air Force Day celebrations. The five Rafale jets were formally inducted into the Indian Air Force on September 10.

Other Indian Air Force fighter jets, including HAL Tejas and Sukhoi Su-30MKI carried out various manoeuvre at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad.

Balakot heroes were also honoured today.

President, Prime Minister extend greetings to Indian Air Force

Earlier in the day, President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces, greeted the Indian Force on the foundation day. He said that the nation remains indebted to the contribution of the IAF in securing our skies and assisting civil authorities in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too extended his greetings to the ”brave warriors” of the Indian Air Force (IAF). “Many congratulations to all the brave warriors of the Indian Air Force on Air Force Day. You not only keep the skies of the country safe but also play a leading role in the service of humanity in times of disaster. Your courage, valour and dedication to protect Maa Bharti inspire everyone,” PM Modi tweeted in Hindi.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also said the country is “proud of its men and women in blue and salutes the prowess of the IAF as it stands ready to face challenges and deter adversaries”.

During the occasion, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria addressed the nation on the occasion of 88th anniversary celebration of Indian Air Force.

“As we enter the 89th year, the IAF is undergoing a transformational change. We are entering an era which will redefine where we employ aerospace power and conduct integrated multi-domain operations,” said IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria.

Air Force Day is celebrated to mark the foundation day of the Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force came into force in 1932 as the Royal Indian Air Force under the then British empire. It was later renamed as Indian Air Force in 1950.

In the Hathras case, the four accused who had been arrested by UP Police wrote a letter to the Superintendent of Police from jail and have claimed that they are innocent. In the letter, Sandeep, the main accused, who as per the victim’s family had strangulated her in the fields, has stated that he was on freindly terms with the victim and used to talk to her often. The family of the victim disapproved of the friendship.

As per Sandeep’s letter, he had met the victim on the day of the incident on the farm. Her brother and mother were with her, who had asked him to leave immediately and he had come back to help his father take care of the farm animals. Sandeep has claimed that he learned later the victim’s mother and her brother had beat her up over her friendship with him. He has written that he learned that the girl had sustained injuries after being attacked and beaten by her brother and mother on the day of the incident.

The accused has further written that he was friends with the victim and had never assaulted her or abused her in any way. “We are innocent. Please investigate the case and help us in getting justice,” he added. The letter had the signature and thumbprints of all four accused names Luvkush, Ravi, Ram Kumar, and Sandeep.

Hathras case

The Hathras case in which a 19-year-old woman was strangulated on September 14 and later succombed to injuries on September 29 has been the ground for much political drama over the caste angle. As soon as the case started to gain attention, it became a political issue for the opposition parties. Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad, TMC leader Derek O’Brien, and several others have visited Hathras to meet the family.

While the investigation was underway, several news agencies tried to build a narrative against the state government. One report was caught on tape, dictating the victim’s brother to speak in a video she needed for the story. The investigating agencies also uncovered an international conspiracy of communal riots in the state over the Hathras case. Four people liked to PFI were arrested in Mathura.

Though the victim and her family members had initially alleged that Sandeep had strangulated the girl, later they levelled allegations of rape and gang rape. The post mortem and forensic lab reports have ruled out rape or sexual assault on the victim.

National Commission of Woman had to step in after several celebrities and leaders, including Digvijay Singh, actor Swara Bhaskar, and Amit Malviya, revealed the identity of the victim that is against the law.

Congress leader and former actress Nagma on Tuesday resorted to spreading fake news after she tweeted a video of a woman criticising the BJP government, claiming that she is the niece of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In a hurry to target the Modi government, Nagma took to Twitter to share a video of a woman who was seen criticising the Modi government over their alleged non-fulfillment of promises. The Congress leader claimed that the lady who was criticising the government was none other than the niece of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In her tweet shared on October 6, Nagma in Hindi said, “Atal ji’s niece is saying that RSS and BJP have a dangerous agenda of dividing the country and they are pursuing it. They are destroying the unity and integrity of the country together with the godi media. They are not able to provide jobs to youth, solve farmers’ issues or provide safety to women.”

Several other social media users, including few Congress party workers, have shared the above video claiming that the Modi government was being criticised even by Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece.

Reportedly, the same clip was also circulated with the same claim earlier this year during the peak of anti-CAA protests.

Fact-Check

However, the lady in the viral clip, which mentions as “HNP News” as the source, is not Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece. The lady in the video is identified as Atiya Alvi, who claims to be a social activist.

The viral video was shot during an anti-CAA protest held at Jantar Mantar in January this year.

It is rather clear that the claim made by Congress leader Nagma about another Congress leader is false. However, despite getting caught after spreading fake news on social media platforms, Nagma has not deleted her tweet.

On Wednesday, social media was flooded with a video of an elderly couple from Malviya Nagar, New Delhi. The couple have a small food stall where they serve simple meals.

The heartbreaking video of the couple struck an emotional chord amongst the netizens who pledged to throng the place in large numbers to help the elderly couple through rough times. Some even volunteered to wait tables for the elderly couple as they expected the place to get a lot of customers after the viral video on social media.

The elderly couple got immense support as people from all over the national capital visited their dhaba on Thursday morning.

People showed that all one need is a nudge and the goodness in one’s heart can restore anyone’s faith in humanity. And while it is indeed heartening to see the outpouring of love and kindness, it also makes one sit back and introspect.

There are innumerable ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ in our neighbourhood. Maybe it is time to check upon them too. The neighbourhood grocery store which has very limited items? Surely it has something you need and use on a daily basis?

Chinese coronavirus has hit us all hard. Everyone is struggling. Many have lost their jobs, many small businesses had to shut down. Things are tough for everyone.

Perhaps now would be a good time to check up on the elderly uncle who sells those chhole bhature on his cycle? Or the neighbourhood stall that serves hot and fluffy idlis? Even the mom-n-pop store for your daily requirement of milk and curd.

While the worst of coronavirus may be behind us, it will still take months, if not years, to get out of the situation and things to get back to normal. Maybe things will never go back to as it was before masks became the new normal.

The pandemic has taught us life is fickle. A little kindness can go a long way. And if there is one good thing that can come out of this nightmare that has been unleashed on us, it could be kindness.

The Hathras case has been an issue of media frenzy and political mudslinging for over a week now. The victim, a 19-year-old girl had succumbed to injuries in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on 29 September. Two leaked audiotapes had revealed how the victim’s family was being ‘tutored’ by some mainstream media journalists and other elements as to what to say and how to behave.

The UP government had also filed cases and started an investigation into plans to stir large scale caste-violence in the area over the victim’s death. Some arrests have been made, and yesterday, a media expose´ had revealed a Congress leader’s elaborate plans for full-scale riots. The UP government, which has already recommended a court-monitored CBI probe in the Hathras Case, has also started an investigation into the funding and conspiracy to start riots in the area over the incident.

BHIM Army’s workers lived with the family

As per a report by Jagran, after the victim’s death on September 29, three workers from the Bhim Army had lived in the victim house along with the family members, claiming to be their ‘relatives’. The Bhim Army has been involved inspiring up caste angle in the issue and has been provoking caste-based tensions in the area. As per the Jagran report, three Bhim Army persons, including a young woman from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, had lived with the victim’s family, claiming to be their ‘relatives’.

As per the report, Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad alias ‘Ravan’ had met the Hathras victim in Aligarh on September 27. The victim died on September 29 and when the political climate started getting hotter, while police took the victim’s body to her village at the night, 3 Bhim Army workers had slipped into the family’s house and started living there as ‘relatives’.

The three Bhim Army workers, especially the woman, were actively giving media statements, targeting the state and district administration. The ‘relatives’ first aroused police suspicion when the police decided to provide protection to the victim’s family and started preparing a plan for deploying personnel to protect each family member in the house. When the police started inquiring about the immediate family members and others living in the victim family’s house, the Bhim Army workers reportedly slipped away silently. The woman had fled on Tuesday. A bike with Madhya Pradesh registration number had come to take her away, as per the report.

Jagran has quoted SP Hathras as saying that upon inquiry, the victim’s family had claimed that they only had ‘relatives’ and some persons from their caste living with them. But the woman, when asked by the police as to who exactly she is and where she has come from, evaded answer. The police also have information that two other men were with her and had now gone after she left.

It is notable here that in the victim’s father had spoken to the CM and had expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the investigation, but soon after, another video of the victim’s father went viral, in which he was seen saying that he was pressurised by the state administration. In that video, it was seen that a person was whispering in his ears, tutoring him to say things a certain way and to add that he was ‘pressurised’. Priyanka Gandhi had shared the video, claiming that the victim’s family was being pressurised.

It is being suspected that the Bhim Army persons staying with the family had been involved in stirring up caste-tensions in the case and tutoring the family to suit the agenda of certain political parties. As per the Jagran report, the Bhim Army woman silently left on Tuesday. It is notable here that in the last couple of days, CM Yogi Adityanath had recommended court-monitored CBI probe and the UP police have started a crackdown on elements that were working to stir up caste violence in the area.

The victim’s family has been giving many contradictory statements throughout the case. In their initial statements after the September 14 incident, when the victim was attacked, they, including the victim herself, were seen stating that she was attacked by one Sandeep ( the arrested main accused) and was strangulated. Their police complaint had also stated the same. After several days, they had claimed that the victim was gang raped and had added three other names in their complaint.

The victim’s family had also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case, but after the state government ordered it, the victim’s brother stated that they want an inquiry by judges and not the CBI.

‘Study’ peddled by The Wire as that of University of Michigan was done by author in private capacity while on leave, university clarifies

University of Michigan has clarified that the random ‘study’ The Wire peddled as that of the varsity was carried out by the individual in his personal capacity while he is on leave. In an email to OpIndia, University of Michigan spokesperson Rick Fitzgerald clarified that Joyojeet Pal is an associate professor in the University of Michigan School of Information and is currently on leave from the University of Michigan.

“This study was conducted while he was on leave. As a faculty member he has a website on the university’s domain where he is able to showcase his work,” the University of Michigan spokesperson clarified.

Earlier this month, in a major embarrassment, the leftist propaganda website, The Wire passed off an obscure ‘study’ by five random individuals as that of the University. Amusingly, only one of these five individuals, Joyojeet Pal, is associated with University of Michigan. Two others are with Microsoft Research Lab and two are unknown individuals, the qualifications of them are unknown.

In its article titled “Sushant Singh Rajput: Study Reveals BJP’s Hand in Hyping Conspiracy Theories”, The Wire claimed that the University of Michigan carried out a study wherein “members of the BJP” were the ones who were ‘amplifying’ what The Wire claims is conspiracy theory on his death under mysterious circumstances.

The five individuals who conducted the study are: Syeda Zainab Akbar, Ankur Sharma, Himani Negi, Anmol Panda, and Joyojeet Pal. Of these, Syeda Zainab Akbar and Ankur Sharma are researchers at Microsoft Research, Bengaluru. OpIndia has reached out to Microsoft Research Lab for their comment on the study but is yet to hear back from them.

Interestingly, after The Wire peddled the random ‘study’, India Today’s Rahul Kanwal got curious and also picked it up.

Curiously, even India Today did not bother to clarify that this ‘study’ is not an official University of Michigan. Pal, too, did not clarify that this ‘study’ was in his personal capacity.

Taiwan wants Indian media to say ‘GET LOST’ to China for asking them to follow ‘one China’ policy

A war of words broke out between Taiwan and China on Wednesday after the Chinese embassy in Delhi wrote to Indian media asking them to adhere to ‘One-China’ policy.

Ahead of Taiwan’s national day on October 10, the Chinese mission in Delhi called upon the Indian media not to refer to Taiwan as a “nation”. In the letter, the Chinese embassy said, “would like to remind our media friends that there is only one China in the world” and the “Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China.”

“We hope Indian media can stick to Indian government’s position on the Taiwan question and do not violate the One-China principle. In particular, Taiwan shall not be referred to as a ‘country (nation)’ or ‘Republic of China’ or the leader of China’s Taiwan region as ‘President’, so as not to send the wrong signals to the general public,” the Chinese email to Indian media said.

It added, “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. All countries that have diplomatic relations with China should firmly honour their commitment to the One-China policy, which is also the long-standing official position of the Indian government.”

China’s directive to Indian media came a day after Taiwanese trade office in New Delhi had placed full-page advertisements in the Indian newspapers ahead of their national day on 10 October. The advertisement had featured an image of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen with an accompanying caption, “Taiwan and India are natural partners.”

Taiwan reacts to Chinese diktat to Indian media

Reacting to the Chinese diktat to Indian media, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister of Taiwan Joseph Wu on Wednesday said that he hoped the Indian media would ask the Chinese mission to “get lost”.

“India is the largest democracy on earth with a vibrant press and freedom-loving people. But it looks like communist China hoping to march into the subcontinent by imposing censorship,” Taiwanese Foreign Ministry said.

Taiwanese MP Wang Ting-yu, attacking the Chinese embassy over its diktats to Indian media, warned them by saying make no mistake, this is not about Taiwan’s status in the world but it was about China’s open assault on press freedom.

“When free press is in jeopardy, all other freedoms are under attack,” he added.

The national day of the Republic of China or commonly known as Taiwan is annually celebrated on October 10, which marks that the start of Wuchang Uprising leading to the end of China’s Qing Dynasty and establishment of the country.

After being mocked and incessantly trolled for using a cushioned seat on a tractor, the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi took aim at the Prime Minister over two custom-made aeroplanes that the govt of India has acquired for VVIP travel. Taking a swipe at PM Modi, Gandhi said that the Prime Minister’s ‘Air India One’ did not just have a cushion but a whole lot of luxury beds for his comfort and accused him of “wasting” thousands of crores of rupees on the plane just because “his friend Donald Trump has one.”

Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi over the planes ignoring the fact that the planes were ordered by the UPA govt, and the current govt merely completed the process. Gandhi’s riposte came after the government attacked the Wayanad MP for sitting on a cushioned seat on a tractor while participating in his “Kheti Bachao Yatra” in Punjab against the recently passed Farm Bills. Questioning the wisdom of spending such a huge amount of money when “China at our borders” and the government is stockpiling ammunition, ration, equipment and other necessary items along the Indo-China border, Gandhi stated that PM Modi wanted the luxurious plane because “his friend Donald Trump has one”.

Acquisition of aircraft was initiated during the UPA regime

However, soon after Rahul Gandhi took a dig at PM Modi for procuring the new custom-made Boeing aeroplanes, the BJP government slammed the Gandhi scion, saying that the process of procurement of the VIP aircraft had begun around a decade ago when the UPA government was in power under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi’s mother, Sonia Gandhi. Moreover, the planes belong to the Indian Air Force and not the Prime Minister.

The process of acquisition of the two new aircraft started in 2011 under the UPA-II regime when upon the direction of Group of Ministers (GOM), a meeting of Committee of Secretaries (CoS) was organised in which it was determined that an Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) would evaluate the available options for long term arrangement of VVIP aircraft. The IMG met about 10 times and submitted two recommendations in 2012—convert an existing B777 ER or use one of the new ones that were ordered by Air India but yet to be delivered.

The govt finally decided to use two planes from the planes ordered for Air India by the UPA govt. It may be the UPA govt had ordered much more aircraft than what was needed by Air India, causing it the financial mess the national carrier is currently it. Two planes from these excess planes, from the planes which were yet to be delivered by Boeing, were repurposed as VVIP aircraft and necessary modification and customisation for the same were ordered by the government.

Air India had ordered for 68 aircraft from Boeing in 2005, 15 of which were B777-300 ER aircraft. In 2017, by when the carrier had taken delivery of 12 777s, it was decided that two aircraft from the remaining three will be used as Air India One for VVIP travel after necessary customisation. Therefore, the govt had actually bought the planes from Air India, which had already bought it from Boeing. Even if those aircraft were not customised VVIP jets, Air India still would have to pay for the cost of the planes as standard commercial jets.

But one can expect Rahul Gandhi to remain ignorant of such details to have made an attack against the Prime Minister on acquiring aircraft whose acquisition was initiated by the Congress-led coalition at the centre. What’s more? It’s a bit rich coming from someone whose father, Rajiv Gandhi, had used INS Viraat as his personal taxi.

Rajiv Gandhi used INS Viraat as his personal taxi

In an exclusive story covered by India Today in 1988, the author alleged that the former prime minister of India and Rahul Gandhi’s father, Rajiv Gandhi, used India’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat as his own personal yacht. The incident is from the time when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country and had gone on vacations to Lakshadweep Islands with his family members and friends.

This incident was raked up by PM Modi in the run-up to the 2019 General Elections, where he alleged that the Gandhi Family used India’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat as their personal boat and compromised India’s national security because their entertainment was of higher priority than the nation’s security.

INS Viraat was deployed for protection of maritime borders of the country, but that was sent for transporting the Gandhi family who was going for holidaying. After that, their entire group was carried to an island by INS Viraat, where it stayed for ten days. The holidaying group included Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi’s mother, her brother and a maternal uncle. Also present were then MP Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya Bachchan and their two children, daughter of Amitabh’s brother Ajitabh, and former minister Arun Singh’s brother Bijendra Singh’s wife and daughter.

Not only was INS Viraat requisitioned for transporting the Gandhi family, but government employees and navy soldiers were also assigned the job of organising all the facilities for the vacation. A special helicopter of the army was deployed their service 24×7, the entire administration was looking after the arrangement of entertainment of the Gandhi family and their guests.

INS Viraat, the lone carrier of Indian navy at that time, was used to transport the Gandhi family and their companions, which moved in the Arabian sea for 10 days for this vacation. An aircraft carrier does not move alone in the sea, a carrier is the nerve centre of a carrier battle group and it is always surrounded by several warships. Even a submarine was also present during the trip. This means incurring huge expenditure. However, for the delectation of the Gandhi family and their guests, India’s security was compromised and massive outlays on public exchequer overlooked.

The Enforcement Directorate today made a stunning revelation that funding of Rs 50 crore was sourced by the Popular Front of India (PFI) from Mauritius to instigate caste-based riots in Uttar Pradesh following the Hathras case.

Responding to the Enforcement Directorate’s revelation, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath issued a stern warning to those who were trying to foment unrest in the state. Yogi said that he will not let any conspiracies to succeed and will initiate the harshest action against those who are bent on dividing the society based on caste, religion and creed.

“People who’ve been dividing the society on the basis of caste, religion & region, are still doing it. They can’t see development, and so they’re hatching new conspiracies. One must recognise those who are doing politics on the death of a person,” news agency ANI quoted UP CM Yogi Adityanath as saying.

Slamming the opposition political parties of hatching a conspiracy against Uttar Pradesh in the wake of visits made by several opposition party leaders to Hathras, Yogi added, “One must recognise those who are doing politics on the death of a person.”

Yogi Adityanath’s resolute determination to take strict action against the trouble-makers comes amidst the series of steps undertaken by the UP government to scuttle the attempts made by several individuals and entities, including foreign-based, to stir up riots in the state.

UP government’s action against inflammatory website “Justice For Hathras”

Just a day after the Hathras victim breathed her last on September 29, a website called “Justice for Hathras” sprung up overnight which hosted misleading and inflammatory content, aimed at ginning up caste-based riots in Uttar Pradesh. The website was subsequently pulled down after police carried out raids on Sunday evening. The objective of the website was to create a wedge between the majority community in the country and undermine the Yogi and Modi government in Uttar Pradesh and India respectively. Objectionable content pertaining to inciting riots and safeguarding oneself during the riots was found on the website.

The intelligence agencies found that the website was funded by Amnesty International and other entities based out of Islamic countries. The investigation agencies also discovered that PFI and SDPI had assisted in preparing the website. Incriminating content such as fake videos, photoshopped images, doctored visuals was uploaded on the website to provoke caste-based riots and unrest in the country.

Four men linked with PFI booked under UAPA

Uttar Pradesh Police also arrested four people, Siddiqui of Nagla in Muzaffarnagar, Siddique of Malappuram, Masood Ahmed of Jarwal in Bahraich district, and Alam of Kotwali area in Rampur district in connection to the Hathras case on Monday. The four arrested men have connections with Popular Front of India (PFI) and were planning to cause caste-based unrest in the state. They have been booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The police have alleged that they were conspiring to spoil the government’s image and disturb the atmosphere in the area.

UP government filed 21 cases across the state in connection with Hathras incident

UP Police informed that a total of six cases were registered in various police station areas of Hathras district. These included cases against individuals, including politicians, who, despite prohibitory orders in place, attempted to barge into the village and create ruckus over there. 13 other cases were filed for making objectionable comments on social media platforms in Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur, Hathras, Ayodhya, Prayagraj and Lucknow.

Yogi Adityanath government files an affidavit in SC demanding court-monitored CBI probe

The Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, asking the court to direct CBI probe in the alleged rape and assault of the Hathras victim. In its affidavit, the UP government claimed that ‘vested interests’ have been making attempts to derail a fair probe in the Hathras case.

Uttar Pradesh govt’s affidavit also stated that the Uttar Pradesh police have been taking all urgent and necessary actions since the case was first reported on September 14, 2020. However, a vicious campaign has been unleashed to defame the State govt and a certain section of print and electronic media, social media and political parties have been attempting to incite caste-based riots in the state.
