Meerut love jihad case: Shakib and his family members had chopped off Ekta’s body, sister-in-law removed her clothes

Meerut Police has solved a murder case recently which had remained unsolved for the past one year. It was revealed to be a case of Love Jihad where the accused Shakib, a resident of Meerut, had posed as a Hindu boy, Aman, in order to get into a relationship with Ekta Deshwal from Ludhiana. Later, he had beheaded the girl and dumped parts of her body in various places after eloping with her and revealing his identity.

It has now come to light that the at least six people were involved in the murder. Apart from Shakib, Musharrat, Mustakim, Reshma, Ismat and Ayaan are accused to have been involved in the murder. Shakib, the lead accused, worked as a Tantrik at Ludhiana and it is suspected that the victim had met him when she went to her with issues related to health.

The uncle of the girl told OpIndia that Ekta was suffering from allergy, which perhaps could have been the reason for her visit. He also said that it could also be that he spotted her during some event near the Ludhiana Bus Stand where he used to work from and started keeping an eye on her. Her mother said that when the family became aware of their budding relationship, they had summoned Shakib to their home. Even then, the accused had worn a Kalava around his wrist.

The police first became aware of Shakib’s involvement after he returned home during the lockdown. One night, in an intoxicated state, he told his friends everything about what he had done. Later, an informant passed on the information to the Police. The Police are now investigating more about the past of Shakib.

Ekta’s uncle told OpIndia that as per Shakib’s sister in law, the two of them had gotten married in a Dargah and a nikah had not occurred. Ekta had also stolen Rs. 25 lakh of jewellery from her own home before eloping at the behest of Shakib.

After eloping, the two of them had been living at an apartment in Daurala. On the occasion of Eid, he took Ekta to his house last year. That is when the girl came to know that she was living with a Muslim man, not Hindu Aman. And after Ekta came to know that he was a Muslim, she was not ready to live with him at any cost. This led to an argument between the two, and Shakib decided to kill her. Shakib spiked the girl’s cold drink, after which she fell unconscious. Shakib then took her to a sugarcane field nearby and strangulated her to death. He then beheaded her and chopped off one of her arms to hide her identity. He threw the girl’s body parts elsewhere and buried the remaining torso in the cane field belonging to one Sabi Ahmed.

Shakib continued operating Ekta’s social media accounts ever after the murder. He continued updating her Facebook account himself and changed the profile picture on WhatsApp at regular intervals. As a result, everyone thought that she was alive.

After he was arrested, Shakib made an attempt to run away from captivity. He had snatched the pistol of a constable and tried to make a run for it. A police constable was injured and he had shot himself during his attempt to flee. He is being currently treated at a hospital. Both of his sister-in-law, Reshma and Ismat, have been sent to the district jail. Meanwhile, Musharrat, Ayaan and Mustakim are in quarantine currently and will be sent to jail once the necessary period is over.

The police have recovered the murder weapon and the victim’s phone from the accused. According to the police, it was Reshma who removed the victim’s clothes. After that, everyone contributed towards chopping her body into numerous parts to prevent easy identification. The Police said that Shakib cut off Ekta’s hand because it had the tattoo of his name. Hands, legs and head were dumped into a pond and the torso was buried with salt so that it decomposes faster.

After India sends Pakistani spies packing, Indian diplomat in Islamabad chased in a vehicle by ISI operative, attempts to intimidate him

Pakistan appears to be up to its usual dirty tricks again. A member of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) gave chase to the vehicle of India’s Chargé d’affaires Gaurav Ahluwalia in Islamabad on Thursday, ANI has reported. Furthermore, ISI has instructed people in cars and bikes to station themselves outside the residence of the Indian Diplomat in order to harass and intimidate him.

Pakistan’s outrageous antics comes days after two officials of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi were caught spying by the Delhi Police on May 31. The two-officials, Abid Hussain and Tahir Hussain, working in the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi were subsequently expelled and told to return to their country.

Fake Identities and other activities of the Pakistani officials

The officials of the Pakistani High Commission had fake Indian passports, which they used everywhere. They were caught red handed by the Delhi Police while they were engaging in espionage activities. Both the officials were consequently declared persona non grata.

It was later reported that the ISI operatives working as diplomats in Pakistan High Commission, used an official diplomatic vehicle of Pakistan, bearing registration number 89 CD 106, for spying. The windshield of the vehicle was broken as they tried to escape after being caught red-handed. The Pakistan High Commission (PHC) was in process of selling the car.

Harassment of Indian diplomats

The harassment of the Indian diplomat appears to be in retaliation to the action taken by India against Pakistani spies. There have been numerous such occasions in the past as well when Pakistan has indulged in such undignified conduct.

In April last year, two Indian diplomats were locked up in a Gurudwara in Pakistan. India later registered a complaint with Pakistani authorities regarding the harassment.

India has also previously complained about the deliberate power cuts during the harsh winters in Pakistan. In November 2018, just a day after India decided to develop and build the Kartarpur corridor, Indian diplomats were blocked from meeting Sikh pilgrims at Gurudwara Sacha Sauda and Gurudwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.

Afghanistan: Despite Peace talks, the Taliban will continue the path of Jihad, says its deputy leader Sirajuddin Haqqani

The deputy leader of the Taliban Sirajuddin Haqqani has said that despite the peace negotiations to repeal the conflict in Afghanistan, the militant group will continue to move further on the path of jihad and will strengthen its military power.

In a message to mark the completion of training of the suicide bombers of the Taliban at an unknown location, Haqqani clarified that peace talks do not mean that they will abandon the path of Jihad.

As per the report, in footage uploaded on the group’s social media page, it was seen that a group of militants wearing suicide vests are passing in a parade in front of the Taliban’s military commission.

Haqqani said, “We believe that the talks are the solution, the politics of sharia (Islamic) law is one of the paths of our jihad and struggle, but no one should miscalculate our politics and willingness for talks — they shouldn’t expect (the Taliban) to abandon jihad and their military capabilities.”

UN report said that the Taliban failed to fulfill the core parts of the peace agreements

The remarks of the deputy leader of the militant group came after the report of the United Nations was released that revealed that the Taliban failed to fulfill the one of the core parts of the US-Taliban agreement that may be resultant in breaking ties with Al Qaeda.

The UN report suggests that a new militant group named Hizb-e-Wilayat-e-Islami has been formed outside Afghanistan which recruits the members of the Taliban who are against the peace agreement between the US and the Taliban. The report further reveals that the senior leadership of Al-Qaeda remains present in Afghanistan with hundreds of armed operatives. Al-Qaeda present in the Indian subcontinent and other groups of foreign terrorist fighters are allies of the Taliban.

US-Taliban agreement

On 29 February 2020, the United States and Taliban signed a peace deal in Doha, Qatar after months of negotiations between both sides, potentially ending the war in the country that is going on for 18 years.

The deal was signed by US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar with US Secretary of State Mr. Mike Pompeo as a witness. Representatives from India, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan were present during the signing of the deal.

The deal has four parts including promises of full withdrawal of American and NATO Troops from Afghanistan within 14 months, a guarantee that the Taliban will not launch attacks on the USA and its allies from Afghanistan, beginning of intra-Afghan negotiations between Taliban and Afghan government, and a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.

The deal also includes a process of the prisoner swap. Around 5000 Taliban and 1,000 Afghan security forces, prisoners were to be interchanged by 10 March, the day when talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government started. Also, the US will lift sanctions against the Taliban and work with the UN to lift its separate sanctions against the group.

The agreement also stated that Taliban members will not use Afghanistan to threaten the security of the USA and its allies, and they will not have any ties with anyone who poses such a security threat for the USA and its allies.

Ease of lockdown restrictions shows signs of economic recovery, e-commerce sales almost return to pre-lockdown levels

Following the easing of restrictions after the 4 phases of lockdown by the Modi government, demand seems to be picking up as an increase in sales have been reported by various sectors of the economy.

Sandeep Kataria, the CEO of footwear company Bata India, said that there has been an increase in the demand for the last three weeks following the restrictions in lockdown. He also added that the trend is expected to continue as consumers start feeling more confident.

According to the reports, Kataria said that the multinational footwear company was expecting a revival in demand by September with the onset of festival season.

He also added that the company is working on various cost-optimisation measures including rental renegotiation, closure of unviable stores and digitalisation drive across the organisation, etc to eliminate redundancies.

To compete with the online brands, Kataria said, Bata has shifted its focus towards driving online sales and they are also in the process of expanding its e-commerce footprint by ramping up presence in online marketplaces, rolling its omnichannel home delivery offerings through 900 stores.

“We are offering contactless home delivery services for the customers along with our delivery partners. We see demand picking up in Tier 3-5 towns, where stores have opened earlier than in metros,” he added.

“After grappling with severe business disruptions, we are back with safety and hygiene as our top priority. We are also recalibrating business operations with a strengthened product portfolio, a steady focus on cash conservation in the company and better online presence and services to ensure seamless shopping experiences for our consumers,” Bata India CEO said.

He added that change in consumer behaviour is a natural fallout of the on-going crisis and a new order will be in place in the post COVID world. The health and safety will assume paramount importance for everyone, the CEO added on the changing consumer behaviour patterns.

E-commerce platforms see recovery post coronavirus lockdown

The e-commerce industry has recovered in just around three weeks after the government eased lockdown restrictions for online delivery of goods. Reportedly, almost 70 per cent of the pre-Lockdown order volume has been re-gained by the e-commerce sector.

Unicommerce, which provides cloud-based solutions to manage inventory and orders, said it processes over 20 per cent of e-commerce volume with over 10,000 e-commerce sellers using its services to sell on multiple e-commerce platforms across categories including Myntra, Urban Company and multiple brands such as Forever New, Jack & Jones etc.

Kapil Makhija, CEO, Unicommerce told Financial Express Online that the e-commerce industry has shown signs of recovery and is expected to return back to normal in the next four-five weeks. “Since the onset of lockdown 4.0, e-commerce has seen a consistent increase in orders. However, consumers are ordering specific products basis requirement, such as trimmers and chargers in electronics, kids clothing, home decor items etc.,” Makhija added.

Earlier from May 4, the Ministry of Home Affairs had allowed e-commerce companies to take orders for non-essential goods as well and deliver them in green and orange zones during lockdown 3.0.

However, in the latest notification issued by the MHA, the government had further relaxed e-commerce operations to operate except containment areas.

Apparels purchase has seen 40 per cent order volume back to pre-coronavirus level. “People are ordering more of comfort clothes like shorts and t-shirts. However, it’s interesting to see that the kids’ apparel has done better recovery, with weekly sales similar to pre-lockdown volume,” the company said.

In the third and fourth phases of lockdown, electronics and home decor have seen an increase by around 30 per cent and 50-60 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the eyewear segment witnessed orders decreasing by almost 45-50 per cent.

After trying to rope in 2nd, 3rd-year MBBS students to manage Coronavirus patients, Maharashtra govt to punish medical interns if they get coronavirus

Maharashtra Government has issued a strict advisory dated June 4, 2020, for the medical interns working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic in the state, which has been grappling to control the scourge of the pathogen. The circular issued by the state-run hospitals mentions that there has been a sudden surge in the number of interns who are having to be quarantined due to coronavirus exposure.

It has asked the medical interns to follow the guidelines strictly, and those who test positive for Coronavirus and found guilty of not adhering to the guidelines and discipline in the workplace and in hostels would be liable to repeat the internship for the quarantine period. Basically the circular implies that if any medical intern by any chance gets exposed to the pathogen while handling coronavirus patients, and if it can be shown that the intern caught the infection due to negligence, then that intern will be liable for punishment. As punishment, their internship period will be extended by the period they will have to stay in quarantine for testing Coronavirus positive.

The circular asks the interns to submit a written explanation about the nature of their exposure and the reason for it.

The circular issued by state-run hospitals in Maharashtra

As the interns are working with Coronavirus patients, their chance of catching the infection is very high. Anyone can get infected accidentally, but to say that interns will be punished if they are found to get the infection for their negligence, the state government is putting additional pressure on the doctors.

Maharashtra has been unable to break the chain of coronavirus. As the Maha Vikas Aghadi Government faces severe flak for its handling of the coronavirus situation in the state, the municipal hospitals in Mumbai have now issued circulars requesting 2nd and 3rd MBBS students (major as well as minor) to return to campus for COVID-19 duty.

Colleges attached with state-run hospitals urge medical students to join as COVID warrior

After many colleges attached with state-run hospitals like Cooper, KEM and Nair, LTM Medical College and Sion, Mumbai had also issued circulars, appealing to medical students to volunteer to treat the coronavirus patients. The circular issued read that the Municipal Commissioner and the additional Municipal commissioner have requested 2nd and 3rd MBBS students (major as well as minor) to join as COVID warrior. Though making the decision voluntary, the circular reads that the number of days served by these students as a COVID warrior would be deducted from their UG bond service period.

It also read that Rs 30,000 honorarium along with a certificate which will “enhance your bio-data for the future” will also be provided after completion of service. Food and accommodation will be taken care of by the college, added the circular.

Similar circulars were also circulated by colleges attached to other municipal hospitals like Cooper, Nair and KEM recently.

The Maharashtra govt spent a meagre 7% of the total deposits on COVID-19 fund on health care

Information received under RTI has reportedly revealed that the Maharashtra chief minister’s coronavirus relief fund had received Rs 342.01 crore as of May 18. However, so far the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra has only utilised Rs 23.82 crore of the total funds in the COVID-19 related arrangements.

“The Maharashtra government has spent just a meagre 7% of the total deposits on COVID 19 fund on health care. While 16 per cent of the fund was spent on migrant labourers to meet railway fares and 0.23 per cent was spent on the deceased in the railway accident. I have written it the state CM Uddhav Thackeray & requested him to use COVID19 fund to improve the health care services,” said Mumbai based RTI activist Anil.

Zee5 ‘hides’ replies on Twitter which had questioned their association with #MeToo accused comedy group All India Bakchod

A day after deciding to suspend a controversial Hinduphobic web series – ‘Godman’, the online streaming platform Zee5 stoked another controversy on Thursday by muzzling voices on social media who questioned their association with comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB) whose founders have been accused in sexual harassment cases during the MeToo movement.

On Thursday, the official Twitter handle of OTT platform Zee5 Premium took to Twitter to market a movie named ‘Chintu Ka Birthday’, which is scheduled to be released on June 5. The media group promoted the movie by asking people to retweet the post shared by its handle. In the post, the controversial comedy group All India Bakchod was also tagged.

Screenshot of Zee5 tweet with message that some replies have been hidden by them

The movie – ‘Chintu Ka Birthday’ is produced by AIB members Tanmay Bhat, Rohan Joshi, and Ashish Shakya under the banner First Draft Entertainment. Some of the members of the AIB are not only accused of staying silent to sexual misconduct of their collaborators but one of the founding members – Tanmay Bhatt was himself accused of sexual misconduct allegations.

Reportedly, the film was supposed to be premiered in 2018 at MAMI film festival but was later dropped from the festival after some of its members got embroiled in MeToo controversy and festival organisers had decided to drop the film.

On Thursday, netizens took to Twitter to question the decision of Zee5 to give platform to the comedy group AIB amidst allegations of sexual misconduct against its promoters. However, the OTT platform rather than addressing the issue decided to hide the replies on Twitter which highlighted the alleged sexual misconduct of AIB promoters.

The hiding of replies by a user indicates that Zee5 not only refused to respond to legitimate questions posed by the users but also tried to hide the details of one of its promoters being accused under grave charges of sexual conduct.

Here are some of the replies which were hidden by Zee5 on Twitter:

One user named Akash Yadav said Zee5 must be feeling very proud by associating with ‘sexual predators’ of AIB. The Zee5 hid this tweet from public display.

Vishwas, whose tweet was also hid by the Zee5, had questioned them regarding their endorsement to AIB.

Avdesh Tyagi’s tweet, which had reference to AIB, added that it was the same Zee5 which had tried to release a conspiracy/propaganda web series against Hinduism to insult the Hindu religion. His tweet was also censored by the OTT platform.

Twitter’s hide reply feature is a censorship tool

The hide reply feature was added by Twitter last year, in the name of giving more control to the users. This feature lets users hide replies posted to tweets by the users. Although the stated reason for the reason was to filter out replies to give more control over conversations, this has become a major tool of censorship and hiding inconvenient truths. For example, if someone posts fake news, and others reply to it pointing out that it is fake and provide the truth, the Twitter user can hide those replies. Therefore, when others see that tweet and its replies, they will not know that it is fake. Similarly, Zee5 hid the tweets pointing out the background of the AIB, therefore people who are not aware of their misdeeds will not be aware of the same.

Sexual misconduct charges against AIB co-founders

In October 2018, during the MeToo movement, the AIB co-founders – Tanmay Bhat and Gursimran Khamba were accused of sexual misconduct. The company had halted its operation and sacked its entire staff after Bhat and Khamba were caught in two separate sexual harassment allegations.

An anonymous woman had accused Khamba of forcing himself on her. According to the girl, they were in a casual relationship earlier but he had tried to force himself to make out with her. She had also accused him of threatening her and being emotionally abusive towards her.

Another girl accused AIB co-founder Tanmay Bhat of sending her inappropriate messages. Tanmay Bhat had also admitted that he knew about another comedian, Utsav Chakraborty’s sexual transgressions and harassment of women but stayed silent on it.

Following the allegations, All India Bakchod had released a statement saying both Bhat and Khamba have been sacked from the group. However, Bhat seems to have joined the comedy group now, leading to outrage across the social media.

Over 2,200 foreign Tablighi Jamaatis blacklisted, banned from entering India for 10 years by the MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to ban more than 2,200 blacklisted foreign nationals from entering India for 10 years for violating visa norms and getting involved in Tablighi Jamaat activities.

Earlier, the Modi government had blacklisted 960 foreigners in April, including four Americans, nine Britishers and six Chinese nationals who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz on tourist visas.

In addition to the already blacklisted 960 foreigners members of the Tablighi Jamaat, more than 1,000 others have been banned from coming to India for violating visa norms by visiting the country on tourist and e-visas. In total, more than 2,200 foreign Tablighi Jamaat members have been banned by the MHA on Thursday.

The Delhi Police had earlier revealed that 960 foreigners, who had attended the controversial Islamic gathering had violated the conditions of their visas by joining the religious congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin, who was culpable for prosecution under Section 14 of the Indian Foreigners Act, 1946.

Hundreds of Tablighi Jamaat members from foreign nations were quarantined

The foreign Jamaat members, who were tested positive for the coronavirus were quarantined in different parts of the country. The blacklisted foreigners include 379 Indonesians, 110 belonged to Bangladesh, 63 to Myanmar and 33 from Sri Lanka.

Similarly, according to the government officials, 77 citizens from Kyrgyzstan, 75 Malaysian, 65 Thailand, 12 Vietnam nationals, 9 Saudis and 3 French nationals were also among those blacklisted for violating visa norms. They all be banned from entering India for the next 10 years

All the 960 foreign Tablighi members could now be deported as and when they complete the quarantine or the hospitalisation period and international flights resume.

Passports and documents of Tablighi Jamaat members seized

The Delhi Police Crime Branch had earlier seized passports and important documents of at least 700 Jamaat members. They were also interrogated over their involvement in the case. The Crime Branch had tried to find out that on what basis they have got the visa and who helped them in getting such a visa.

Similarly, the passports of 211 foreign nationals, out of 287, who had attended the religious congregation organised by Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz between March 13 and March 15 have been seized by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Tablighi Jamaat event that became the coronavirus super-spreader in India.

The Tablighi jamaat event in Delhi was held in the month of March and had wreaked havoc in the country. The event produced more than 30 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in the country. The Markaz event was not only attended by Indian Muslims but also foreign nationals.

The alarm bells should have started ringing when seven Indonesian nationals associated with the organization tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus in Telangana after travelling from Delhi to Karimnagar for an Ijtema. However, it was only later that the full scope of the Tablighi Jamaat’s contribution to the spreading of the virus became prominent when nearly 300 Jamaatis in the Delhi’s Banglewali Masjid had to be taken to hospital for suspected coronavirus symptoms, many testing positive eventually.

The Health Ministry had revealed that nearly 30% i.e 4291 cases of the total 14,378 coronavirus cases detected up to mid-April were caused due to Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi by Tablighi Jamaat.

Speaking at a press conference, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said, out of total 14,378 cases, 4291 (29.8%) cases are related to Nizamuddin Markaz cluster from a ‘single source’ and affected at least 23 states and union territories.

He had also added that 84% cases in Tamil Nadu, 63% cases in Delhi, 79% cases in Telangana, 59% cases in Uttar Pradesh and 61% cases in Andhra Pradesh are related to the event.

Times of India journalist Samina Shaikh tries to shame Hindus over the killing of pregnant elephant in Kerala

Times of India journalist Samina Shaikh used the recent incident where a pregnant elephant died after food laden with firecrackers burst in her mouth to shame Hindus by suggesting that those who worship Lord Ganesha also killed the elephant. In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha has the head of an elephant and elephants are also considered holy.

SS of Times of India journalist Samina Shaikh’s now deleted Tweet

After several people outraged at the insinuation, the journalist had protected her account.

Samina Shaikh insinuates Hindus behind the cruel killing of the pregnant elephant in Kerala

While this sheer heinous act of animal cruelty has attracted condemnation from all quarters, Times of India journalist, Samina Shaikh, who was once exposed by netizens for her anti-Hindu and Homophobic comments, tried to use the incident to shame Hindus. The journalist had written: “Jiski Pooja karte ho ussi ko takleef pahocchate ho” roughly translated as “you’ll hurt those whom you’ll worship”, insinuating that the unidentified miscreants behind this cruel act were Hindus.

She later took to Twitter to clarify that she shared the picture of Lord Ganesha which was shared by her “Hindu friend” but because she, as a Muslim, shared it, the ‘andhbhakts’ trolled her.

She even claimed that everyone and not just Hindus down south worship elephant. Cows, too, are considered holy in Hinduism.

When Samina Shaikh was called out by Netizens for her ‘Hinduphobic’ tweets

Last month, a Twitter user identified as X Æ A-12 Duggu @R0adside_M0nk, in a series of tweets called out the Hindhuphobia of a Times of India editor, who not only pushed hatred against Hindus but also used the official Twitter account of Times of India to make Hinduphobic comments.

Shaikh, who is the editor of Bombay Times, deputy editor of ETimes, and also associated with Femina magazine, was caught handling the Times of India’s twitter account after she tweeted the same content from the Times of India’s Twitter account which was earlier shared from her own account. Perhaps, Shaikh had forgotten to switch her social media accounts.

Not only that, Samina Shaikh’s old tweets of taking a dig at Hindus by making ‘gaumutra’ jibes has also resurfaced on the social media platforms. Just like a typical Islamist, Shaikh seems to have a habit of mocking Hindus and Hindu traditions.

Pregnant elephant dies in Kerala after cracker-filled pineapple burst in its mouth

The incident took place in Malappuram district of Kerala when the elephant had wandered into a village in search of food. It is being believed that some villagers stuffed pineapples filled with firecrackers on her tusks while she was walking on the streets.

Indore: Raids on Paan Masala businesses owned by alleged Pakistani nationals for tax fraud, Sanjay Mata sent to judicial custody

After four days of joint raids and unstopped search operations conducted by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence(DGGI) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence(DRI), Paan Masala baron Sanjay Mata, a Pakistani national, has been sent to judicial custody till 17 June on the allegations of tax fraud. The departments conducting a probe in the matter estimated that the Mata family has done a tax fraud to the tunes of Rs 8 crores.

The Mata family runs a Paan Masala business (SS Enterprises) and it is accused that during the lockdown, they had been profiteering by sending Paan Masala consignments and selling unbilled goods in other states. During the raids, it has been revealed that the family has sold unbilled goods worth more than 30 crores during the lockdown.

Raids by DRI and DGGI

As per reports, the raids at the Mata family’s residence and other addresses revealed that the family is yet to get Indian citizenships and are retaining their Pakistani citizenship. The family has allegedly been indulged in the illegal businesses in Indore for years.

On May 30, the DGGI and DRI conducted raids at several locations belonging to the Mata family. The investigations reported a tax evasion worth 8 crores. Under the GST Act, the DGGI arrested Sanjay Mata and produced him in the court of special judge Vijendra Singh Rawat. He was sent to judicial remand till 17 June.

Documents are being scanned, evaded amount is expected to increase

Reportedly, several documents are still being scanned due to which the figure of tax evasion is expected to increase. The authorities also recovered cash worth Rs 67 lakhs from the Mata family residence.

In the court, the DGGI prosecutor argued that Sanjay and Sandeep are habitual criminals. They also have Pakistani citizenship. It is also alleged that there have been other allegations of tax fraud against the Mata brothers. While Sanjay Mata was arrested and has been sent to judicial custody till June 17, Sandeep Mata, the co-accused is still absconding.

Fake packets to cheat GST

As per reports, the Mata family, which runs several firms, has been selling Gutkha and Paan Masalas by making fake sachets and packs. Since the sale, and supply of Gutkha and Paan Masala has been banned during the lockdown, the family was allegedly profiteering by selling the fake packets at double or triple the original price.

The family’s businesses and warehouses were also raided in 2015.
