Panic in China as video surfaces alleging that some patients are ‘spitting’ on others to deliberately spread deadly Coronavirus

0

As the Wuhan coronavirus spreads far beyond China’s borders to countries around the world claiming several lives, it is being alleged that some patients in China are trying to spread the disease by deliberately spitting at others.

According to a Metro UK report, a South African teacher named Jessika Bailing who works as a teacher in Wuhan said: “We are all so scared to go outside, I avoided it for as long as I could. I went to do a supply run, it was so terrifying. I covered myself from head-to-toe with gloves on my hands, glasses to cover my eyes and of course, my mask.”

She added, “I’ve heard shocking stories about infected people going out of their way to contaminate others by taking off their masks and spitting in doctors’ faces.”

“We’ve been told the virus can stay on objects for some time, so I made sure to wash all of the items I bought from the store, including packets of crisps, bottles of water, chocolate bars and even coffee sachets,” she said.

“I saw one video of a man spitting on all of the buttons in an apartment elevator,” said the South African teacher.

A disturbing unverified video recorded at a hospital’s CCTV emerged which showed infected people coughing and licking objects kept on the reception desk.

The outbreak of coronavirus in China and its eventual spread to other nations have created a situation of panic and medical emergency. The virus causes respiratory infection.

Early symptoms include fever and dry cough. It eventually causes shortness of breath. The most disturbing fact is that there is no available cure or vaccine available at this time.

On January 23 it was reported that several Malayali nurses in Saudi Arabia had been quarantined following exposure to a patient infected with the coronavirus. As per reports, the nurses have now been kept in isolation in a separate ward.

The Virus attack was confirmed initially in a Filipino woman and then spread to the Malayali nurse, an Ettumanoor native when she attended her for treatment. The coronavirus case has been reported in the Al Hayat National Hospital in Saudi Arabia’s Baha.

The death toll has already reached a staggering number of 132, most of whom lived in China’s Wuhan city. There have been more than 6100 confirmed cases of contra virus exposure since the outbreak began almost a month ago. Most patients are between 55-87 years old. As such, many tourist places have been shut down and festivities cancelled.

Most affected is the Wuhan city, where the virus outbreak was first reported. Along with Wuhan, the Chinese authorities have locked down 18 cities in the country to prevent the virus from spreading. All flights, trains and other modes of transportation going out these cities have been suspended, meaning people in these places can’t leave the cities.

This had prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to issue guidelines to prevent exposure to the virus and its further transmission. The organization is now closely monitoring the situation along with the Chinese authorities.

Schools have been shut down for two weeks in Hong Kong. Advisories have been released by the city officials to stay at home and contain the spread of the virus. Bus services have been suspended in Enshi while the railway station has been closed for public use in Ezhou.

Hospitals have been jampacked and pharmacies are running short of medicines. Chinese media outlets have claimed that a 1,000-bed hospital will become fully functional within 6 days.

It is now being speculated that the origin of the virus may be linked to China’s discreet Biological Warfare program.

India’s Preparedness

Roughly, 23000 Indian students are currently studying in China, and a considerable number among them are at the Wuhan Medical University. The cost of treatment has run up to 1 million yuan (1 Cr Indian rupees) for Maheshwari, an Indian working at a primary school teacher in Shenzhen.

India is gearing up to face the dangers of the outbreak. There are now a total of 19 airports wherein passengers are being screened for coronavirus. Now, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has provisions for a separate ward to contain the spread of the deadly disease.

UP Police books 600 AMU students for blocking roads on Republic day demanding release of former student arrested for heckling the VC

0

The Uttar Pradesh police have booked more than 600 students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for blocking roads in the city on January 26 (Republic Day).

Defying prohibitory orders, the students blocked the arterial road near Chungi gate in the city on Sunday evening demanding the release of a former student, Ahmad Mustafa Faraz, who was held for allegedly heckling AMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Tariq Mansoor during his Republic Day speech.

The students have been booked under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) for violating prohibitory orders and section 341 (wrongful restraint) of IPC at the Civil Lines police station.

According to the FIR, the students had been informed about section 144 of CrPc, but they willfully defied it and shouted slogans against CAA and NRC. During the blockade which lasted till 2 am, the students also shouted slogans against UP Police.

“On January 26, during the VC’s speech, few students raised slogans and created a disturbance. The Proctoral team had arrested four students and handed them over to the police stations. During the investigation, it was found that three boys were AMU students and one was an ex-student of the university,” Circle Officer (CO) Civil Lines, Anil Samania told reporters here on Tuesday.

“Later, the three students were released. A case was filed against the former student. Further demanding the release of the student, around 600 students gathered outside the university, creating a blockage on the roads. It lasted for five to six hours. So, a case has been registered against them for blocking the roads,” he added.

The CO also said that the Faraz was later granted bail on January 27.

On January 24, a case had also been registered against Faizul Hasan, the former students’ union president of Aligarh Muslim University (AMUSU) who, in his hate speech, had threatened by saying that Muslims can destroy anything if they wish to do and claimed that the community has constantly been tested since 1947.

Ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by the Modi government, the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh had emerged as one of the epi-centres of the anti-CAA agitations being perpetrated in the name of ‘peaceful protests’. The students and Muslim mob associated with the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) had unleashed violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The ‘students’ of AMU had clashed with UP Police on December 15.

This is not the first time student’s of the varsity have resorted to such outrageous behaviour. On January 17, Aligarh Muslim University student’s had abused the proctor when he was trying to negotiate with them and convince them to refrain from agitating. A student, in a video shared by India Today journalist Padmaja Joshi, could be heard calling the proctor a “dalla” (pimp) while another was seen showing a shoe to him.

On December 22 last year, the students of controversial Aligarh Muslim University, in a bizarre move had expelled their Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of the university. The students had asked them to vacate their official residences by January 5, 2020. The students had also closed down all activity in the university until the VC and the Registrar resigned.

You make Ram temple at Ayodhya, we will make Babri Masjid: Shiv Sena ally and SP leader Abu Azmi’s son warns Uddhav against Ayodhya visit

A day after India’s 71st Republic Day, Shiv Sena’s new ally and Samajwadi Party senior leader Abu Azmi’s son Farhan Azmi lashed out at the erstwhile Hindutva party supremo Uddhav Thackeray. Farhan Azmi’s Parcham Foundation and We the People of Maharashtra held a “constitutional conference” to oppose the newly implemented CAA and NPR-NRC at Radio Club, Colaba, Maharashtra on Monday.

Though according to the foundation’s president Farhan Azmi, the event was aimed to reiterate the need to preserve Constitutional value, Farhan used the platform to tear into Shiv Sena supremo and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and deliver a deeply anti-Hindu speech.

Vowing to bring the state government down if it fails to bring notification against the Citizenship Amendment Act Farhan also warned Shiv Sana chief for his Ayodhya remark.

Addressing the crowd the SP leader’s son said: “Uddhav Thackeray may treat this as a warning or threat… but if he goes to Ayodhya on March 7, then even I will accompany him. I also invite my father (Abu Azmi), all members of Samajwadi Party and all members of Maha Vikas Aghadi to join us. We will all accompany him but there is a condition… while he will build Ram Mandir I will build the Babri Masjid there”, said Farhan Azmi.

Shiv Sena had recently played the “Ayodhya card” by announcing that chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will visit the city in March to mark the completion of 100 days in power.

Farhan lashed at the Shiv Sena chief by saying that Uddhav Thackeray shrewdly sought vote in BJP’s name and then used Congress and NCP to helm Maharashtra. He accused Thackeray of terrorising the minorities and said that he believes that this Sena-Congress-NCP alliance government will not last more than six to eight months.

It is worthy to note that Abu Azmi had once called Uddhav Thackeray’s father and Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray ‘senile’, Farhan’s defiance seems to be rooted.

The event was supposed to be a Tiranga March but was denied police permission at the last minute. Its format was then changed to a conference.

Farhan also urged the attendees to choose NOTA in the next election unless parties give citizens a clear picture.

Actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt, JNU’s ex-student Umar Khalid who is accused in a sedition case and son of terrorist organisation SIMI member, ex-IPS officer with a shady past, Abdur Rahman who had claimed to have resigned over CAA, Dr Kafeel Khan of Gorakhpur tragedy who was booked under section 153-A on the 13th of December for his speech in Aligarh which was allegedly provocative and an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere and spread communal disharmony and Fahad Ahmad were also present at the event. A question-answer session was held later in the evening.

Shiromani Akali Dal to support BJP in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections

BJP president JP Nadda today said that Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) will support the saffron party in the upcoming assembly elections in the National Capital. Earlier, alarms were raised within the BJP ranks when Akali Dal had refused to contest the Delhi elections over their alleged difference of opinion with the BJP over the Citizenship Amendment Act.

JP Nadda had a long meeting with SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal before addressing the joint conference. In a joint press conference with SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Nadda heaped hailed Akali dal as an old and a strong ally, while Badal talked about the emotional sentiments the two parties share with each other.

On Wednesday, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal asserted that they had never broken the alliance with the BJP and it was just that they had decided to contest the elections separately. He also said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has supported the CAA from the beginning and that he had gone to Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah to demand the grant of citizenship to persecuted Sikhs from Pakistan.

Badal also added that the alliance with the BJP is bound by emotions, for peace, the future, and interests of Punjab and the country,” he said. “There were some misunderstandings that have been sorted out.”

Earlier, Akali Dal’s decision to not contest Delhi elections had given fuel to the rumours of a possible rift between the two long-standing political allies. The flashpoint between the parties was rumoured to be their indifferences between the two parties over the CAA. SAD’s unequivocal stand on the inclusion of Muslims in CAA had set BJP’s teeth on edge. However, SAD chief’s latest statements extending support to the BJP in Delhi elections have put to rest the speculations of discord in their alliance.

Delhi will go to elections on 8th February and the results will be declared on 11th February.

Watch: Female shopkeeper in Yavatmal scares off anti-CAA rioters with red chilli powder

In a strange incident, a shopkeeper in Yavatmal used red chilli powder to stop the violent mob protesting against CAA from forcefully shutting her shop during Bharat Bandh called by multiple organisations on Wednesday.

In the video, it can be seen that a violent mob is forcefully trying to shut a shop in the city. The woman shopkeeper accompanied by another man threw chilli powder on the protestors to protect themselves from the frenzied mob.

A lady can be seen carrying a packet of chilli powder and chasing the anti-CAA rioters, who tried to forcefully shut the shop. As the duo resorted to self-defence, the violent mob ran away from the spot.

The Yavatmal police have also reportedly baton-charged against the violent mob.

Several organizations have called for a Bharat Bandh against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Wednesday.

“Always be prepared”: Manforce Condoms takes a dig on Kunal Kamra heckling Arnab Goswami, gives tips on how to ‘protect oneself’

A day after propagandist Kunal Kamra heckled and abused Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in a Mumbai-Lucknow flight, brands have also started cashing in on the flavour of the season. Condom brand Manforce today took to Twitter to give tips on how to protect oneself when one is caught in a ‘situation’.

When one wants to protect oneself from ‘Kamra’, one can wear sun glasses and earphones, the way Arnab did as Kunal Kamra displayed his deranged behaviour. Similarly, if one wants to protect oneself in a ‘kamra’ (room in Hind), they could use a condom. Earlier, such tongue in cheek humour was done by porn websites like PornHub and RedTube where they had used AAP leader Sandeep Kumar and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in their memes respectively.

Following the heckling incident, as many as four airlines have suspended Kamra from using their services. This has also led to series of jokes where various parodies are not banning Kamra from using their services as well, like the Sulabh Suachalay (Public Utility) Association which barred him to ban the ‘garbage’ from flowing in sewer pipes. Quite a few people have fallen for the parody accounts.

Sharjeel Imam: Are liberals preparing us to accept Bharat ke Tukde?

Notice anything? Sharjeel Imam, the Shaheen Bagh mastermind and The Wire columnist is now a “Scholar”. “Activist”.

He called openly for tearing India into pieces. Said that the chicken’s neck belongs to Muslims and they should cut off Assam and the North East from India. Said openly that non-believers can only join their cause as second class citizens on terms set by Muslims.

Still a scholar? Still just an activist?

And now, get a load of this.

Untitled
ThePrint on Sharjeel Imam

Intellectuals are out to defend this one too. Not surprisingly, Sharjeel Imam is still a victim. This time his comments are being cherry picked.

When Faiz’s poem on breaking idols was being recited, that was supposed to be a poetic metaphor.

Read: From The Wire to everything else, the Anatomy of an Islamist: Into the mind of Sharjeel Imam, mastermind of Shaheen Bagh

One wonders exactly what a liberal would have to say for his comments to be considered as hate speech. Apparently, there are no limits. If anything, liberals are using Sharjeel Imam to push the envelope even further, demanding even more abject submission to Islamism.

Untitled
The Print on Sharjeel Imam

We have to realize that with each passing day, we are becoming conditioned to the subjugation of our country.

Rewind to the days of 2015-16 when the Bharat ke tukde and Azaadi slogans first surfaced. Liberals were terrified, scrambling to dissociate themselves from the event. They knew public opinion would not spare them.

The liberal ecosystem was spooked. They threw the kitchen sink, calling the videos fake, doctored, saying that the slogans were shouted by BJP agents planted in the crowd and what not. The key is that liberals were on the defensive.

Read: Barkha Dutt’s ‘Sheroes’ come out in support of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, call crackdown against his seditious speech “Islamophobia”

Not any more. Day by day, the chant of Azaadi was normalized, moralized and even glamorized. A slogan taken from terrorists in Kashmir was branded as a form of dissent.

So what is wrong in a slogan such as “XYZ se Azaadi”, where XYZ could be poverty, unemployment, or maybe some social evil? Nothing if you take it literally. But the slogans are intended to work on a more subliminal level, gradually normalizing the form and idiom used by terrorists.

Liberals understand this marketing trick very well. And there is a reason they are choosing to use the idiom of terrorists. Otherwise, do you think that Hindi and English are so short of vocabulary that liberals could not have picked any alternative words to express their dissent?

Read: “An enemy community was foisted upon the Muslims after Independence”: Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam reveals real-agenda behind CAA protests

Why do you think liberals repeatedly morph the Hindu Swastika or sacred Om symbol into a Nazi hooked cross? What point are they making? Has Hitler or his hateful ideology ever had any significance whatsoever in the Indian political context? Liberals do it because they understand the power of subliminal messaging. They are constantly trying to create an association in Indian and Western minds that Hindus are somehow connected to Nazis.

The same with Faiz’s poem on breaking idols. Was there no other way to verbalize dissent against CAA than use the metaphor of breaking idols? Of course there was. But liberals wanted us to see the world using an Islamic idiom.

When some people objected, top liberals put them down by calling them culturally illiterate. Take that! Unless you subscribe to an Islamic idiom, expressed in high flown Urdu, you’re an illiterate. If you read Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four, language is the most potent weapon of controlling the mind. They want to cripple our ability to express any thoughts against the supremacy of the Islamist worldview. When we criticize our government, we are required to adopt rhetoric that sees idol worshipers as inherently low.

Read: Into the Islamist’s mind: The role of educated Muslims in Sharjeel Imam’s ‘Plan of Action’

Notice how they reject Vande Mataram, but embrace Faiz.

A metaphor of the nation as a mother goddess makes you a bigot. You have to think of idols as the ultimate metaphor for evil and express all your thoughts as per those rules of rhetoric.

Once you adopt their rhetorical scheme, you won’t even have the words to resist Islamist subjugation. Your mind may feel unhappy, but your words will fail you. And when your words fail, your ideas will never spread. You are finished.

Remember the ‘sheroes’ from the Jamia protest last month. People dug into their social media histories and discovered that they were fans of Yakub Memon. But in 2019-20, the discovery barely made a scratch on their public image. Remember that Yakub Memon was involved in a terrorist attack that killed 250 innocent people. His sympathizers are ‘sheroes’ today. Let that sink in.

Read: Radical Islamists say Muslims must stand by Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, defend his decision to cut off Assam

Even worse, ordinary people now take liberals sympathizing with Yakub Memon for granted. It does not shock them.

If you dig into Sharjeel Imam’s social media history, you will find the same tropes about sympathizing with Yakub Memon and Afzal Guru. Nobody is surprised any more. We have become numb, desensitized to such rhetoric. Remember that Afzal Guru was hanged in the UPA era. Would the UPA have hanged Afzal Guru today? I doubt it.

Now liberals are extending intellectual cover to Sharjeel Imam. Four years ago, the nation was shocked by slogans of Bharat ke tukde and Azaadi. Today we have a man who calmly gives the details of a plan to actually tear the country into pieces. Liberals are no longer shy of defending him. They don’t deny. They don’t distance themselves. They demand that we retreat.

If they win this rhetorical war, tomorrow they will all speak openly about strategies of tearing India into pieces, state by state.

This is how far we have been pushed as a country. Where do we draw the line?

Union cabinet approves changes to Abortion law, termination of pregnancy to be extended till 24 weeks

In a significant decision, the Union Cabinet has approved the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which proposes an extension of the upper limit for abortions to 24 weeks from 20 weeks.

Reportedly, the extension to 24 weeks will help survivors of rape, victims of incest and other vulnerable women like differently-abled women, minors etc, the Union Cabinet said in a statement. The Bill will be introduced in the ensuing budget session of the Parliament.

Furthermore, the extension of the upper limit for abortions will not apply in cases of substantial foetal abnormalities diagnosed by the medical board. The composition, functions and other details of the medical board will be prescribed subsequently in Rules under the Act.

The names and other particulars of a woman whose pregnancy has been terminated shall not be revealed except to a person authorised in any law for the time being in force. Speaking to the media, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the increase in extension was a “progressive reform that gives women reproductive rights over their bodies”.

“In a progressive reform and giving reproductive rights to women, the limit of 20 weeks of medical termination of pregnancy has been increased to 24 weeks,” said Javadekar adding this would ensure safe termination and give women reproductive rights over their bodies.

Stating that this was a demand from a section of women and doctors, the minister added, “This is important because in first five months there are cases where the girl concerned doesn’t realise and has to go to court”.

The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 is for expanding access of women to safe and legal abortion services on therapeutic, eugenic, humanitarian or social grounds. It is a step towards the safety and well-being of the women and many women will be benefitted by this.

The proposed increase in gestational age will ensure dignity, autonomy, confidentiality and justice for women who need to terminate the pregnancy, stated the Union Cabinet in its statement.

The decision comes four months after the centre had told the Supreme Court that right to reproductive autonomy did not outweigh the interest of the state in protecting a foetus’ life and the 20-week limit could not be extended in a blanket manner.

After four airlines ban ‘comedian’ Kunal Kamra from flying with them, Twitter bursts into a parody fest

Self-proclaimed comedian Kunal Kamra was banned by IndiGo Airlines for heckling Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami on one of its flights on Tuesday. On cue, Air India, SpiceJet and GoAir also declared they had banned Kamra.

“Offensive behaviour designed to provoke & create disturbance inside an aircraft is absolutely unacceptable and endangers the safety of air travellers. We are left with no option but to advise other airlines to impose similar restrictions on the person concerned,” Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had posted on Twitter.

All the airlines had tagged Puri in their tweets announcing their compliance.

While many felt that this action against the foul-mouthed Kamra was much needed, it was viewed by many assorted ‘liberals’ as excessive. Nevertheless, this action, taken by various airlines triggered a parody fest on the micro-blogging site.

Amused over the speculations of the modes of transport now open for Kamra, twitter users changed their profile names to fictional names of various organisations and declared that they are now banning Kamra too.

‘Liberal’ Journalist Marya Shakil had fallen for one of such parodies and, ironically, attempted sarcasm, asking whether ships and submarines will now start to ban Kamra too. She was, however, heard by another parody. This parody, however, was an exception. It declared that instead of banning, they will keep Kamra confined to one of their submarines.

The most unexpected and hilarious meme, however, came from ManForce Condoms. They shared a picture hinting that one should always be prepared to face either Kamra (the comedian) or Kamra (room in Hindi), with depicting a pair of earphones and sunglasses (Arnab’s accessories during the episode) as the standard protection against the comedian. The other side of the picture had a condom packet, being the standard ‘protection’ to be used ‘inside a room’.

Today, while returning in a GoAir flight from Lucknow to Mumbai, Kamra has reportedly repeated his behaviour. Arnab Goswami was travelling in that flight too, and Kamra, as per his own submission, tried to corner him again.

Read: ‘Mentally unstable’ Kunal Kamra abuses and heckles Arnab Goswami on a flight to Lucknow: Here is what actually happened

It is not understandable why Kamra has been hell-bent on such deranged behaviour. However, in another tweet this morning, Kamra had himself declared that he has ‘stopped listening to his mind’ because ‘the mind is a coward’.

In September 2017, the government of India through Ministry of Civil Aviation had listed rules to tackle on-board disruptive and unruly behaviour by passengers which could put them on No-Fly List.
