Congress denies reports on abolishing income tax for those under age of 35 years

Shekhar Gupta’s The Print today published an article which claimed that Congress is deliberating to include major tax sops in the manifesto for 2019, including abolishing income tax for those under 35 years of age. The article states that while there was no concrete decision on the same, the idea was discussed during the meeting on 13th July, led by Priyanka Gandhi.

However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala denied the report that Congress is contemplating the same.

Earlier, in January, OpIndia had called out how The Print had repeated on the oft-repeated lie on the Doklam stand-off. In the article, the author had put across various insinuations and omitted information and assertions which were far from the truth. Interestingly, The Print had peddled the same lies about Doklam which Congress’ Prime Minsiterial candidate Rahul Gandhi has been talking about. Just yesterday, the Indian Army had condemned The Print for a factually incorrect report.

But then, the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree. Prior to starting The Print, when Shekhar Gupta was the Editor-in-chief of Indian Express in 2012, he had written series of articles where he had claimed that the Indian Army was making ‘unauthorised troop movements’ towards the capital and the Raisina Hill (which houses the Home Ministry) was ‘spooked’. This baseless news also earned Gupta the monicker of ‘Coupta’.
