‘Why banned in West Bengal when it is running elsewhere without issues’: SC issues notice to Mamata Banerjee govt over ban on The Kerala Story

The Supreme Court Friday (May 12) issued a notice to Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal seeking to know the rationale behind banning the screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ movie in the state. It questioned the state government as to why the movie can’t be screened peacefully in the state when it has been running without issues in the rest of the country.

The apex court also sent a notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a de facto ban on the movie in the state asking the Pinarayi Vijayan government to specify the administrative arrangements made for security to theatres screening the movie.

The court was hearing the plea filed by The Kerala Story makers Vipul Shah and Sudipto Sen challenging the decision of the West Bengal government to ban the film in the state. The petition additionally challenged the Tamil government’s decision to impose a de facto ban on the film. 

It may be recalled that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee while announcing the ban had justified her action saying that it was done to “maintain peace”.

Senior Counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the West Bengal government, justified the ban in court today by saying that the state had received a huge number of intelligence reports regarding threats of law and order problems.

Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the makers of the movie informed the court that the state placed a ban on the screening of the movie after it ran peacefully for three days in the state. “For West Bengal, we are seeking quashing of the ban order,” he said.

After hearing both the arguments, the apex court hit out at the Mamata Banerjee government saying that the film is being screened in the rest of the country without any problem and there appears to be no reason for the ban.

“The film has been released in the rest of the country. West Bengal is no different from any other part of the country. If it can run in peace in the rest of the country, why should… West Bengal ban it,” said Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud, who is presiding over the bench hearing the case.

“It is running in different parts with similar demographic profiles as West Bengal. And this has nothing with its cinematic value, it may be good or bad,” he added.

Singhvi said that the State has power under Section 6 of the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation) Act 1954 and opposed the grant of stay. CJI however said that the Court will not pass any interim order without hearing the State.

With regard to the shadow ban placed on the movie by the Tamil Nadu government, Senior Advocate Harish Salve said that there is a de facto ban in Tamil Nadu as theatres screening the movie are being threatened and they have dropped the screenings.

To this, the apex court told the Tamil Nadu government, “We would like to know… what are the specific administrative arrangements made by you… because to my mind, the state government cannot say we will look the other way when theatres are being attacked and chairs being burnt. You are duty bound to ensure security”

The bench asked the State of Tamil Nadu to file an affidavit regarding the steps taken by it.

The court has listed the matter for the next hearing on Thursday (May 18). “We are issuing notices to both the states and they may file their response by Wednesday. We will take up the matter on Thursday,” the bench said.

The Kerala Story makers move SC against the ban in West Bengal, also challenge de facto ban by TN Govt

On May 9, Tuesday, The Kerala Story makers Vipul Shah and Sudipto Sen moved to the Supreme Court against the decision of the West Bengal government to ban the film in the state. The petition additionally challenged the Tamil government’s decision to impose a de facto ban on the film by issuing an ‘alert’ anticipating protests in conjunction with the film’s release, as a result of which multiplexes in the state refused to screen it.

Through the plea, the makers of the film have not only opposed the arbitrary action taken by the West Bengal government against the release of the movie in the state but have also asked the Tamil Nadu government to provide protection to the theatre owners in the state against miscreants so that they agree to screen the film in their property.

Mamata Banerjee banned the film in West Bengal

On May 8, WB CM Banerjee banned the film in the state to maintain “peace”. Though the film’s name is ‘The Kerala Story’, she said ‘The Kerala Files’ for unknown reasons. “West Bengal govt has decided to ban the movie ‘The Kerala Story’. This is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence and to maintain peace in the state,” news agency ANI quoted her as saying.

Tamil Nadu theatres stop screening The Kerala Story

The multiplex theatres in TN had decided to drop the movie citing the law and order situation arising due to the protests against the film as well as a poor response to the film in the state.

This came after Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman and his supporters staged protests against the screening of the film in the Anna Nagar Arch near Skywalk Mall in Chennai on Saturday. Police apprehended NTK cadres following a protest inside a theatre opposing the screening of The Kerala Story.

Seeman claimed that The Kerala Story was made to denigrate Muslims and portray Muslims as terrorists. 

The Kerala Story screenings were cancelled in various Kerala districts on the day of its premiere. Two previously scheduled shows in Kochi were cancelled. The movie was also boycotted by theatre owners at Kochi’s Lulu Mall and Centre Square Mall. Similarly, theatres in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kannur, and Wayanad opted not to screen the film.

The recently released film has become a hot topic of discussion because of its sensitive topic, including terrorism, love jihad, and ISIS. While the film has received appreciation from all walks of society, a specific section opposed the film claiming that it shows the state of Kerala in a bad light. However, while hearing the plea against the film, the Kerala High Court categorically said if anyone would feel offended by the film it should be the terrorist organisation ISIS.

The movie ‘The Kerala Story‘ revolves around the tragic reality of ISIS brides, with Adah Sharma playing the role of one Shalini Unnikrishnan, who is brainwashed by her Muslim friends and gets converted to Islam. She later travels to IS (Islamic State) controlled area with her spouse.

These days education is costly. In the developed world, many middle-class parents set aside a huge chunk of their earnings to afford college for their kids. Even with scholarships and loans, it can add up to a lot. But we Hindus, pagans and kuffars according to some practitioners of competitive faiths, are the most fortunate. The entire world rushes to educate us, free of cost! 

Just a couple of days back, Starbucks, which sells “overpriced and tasteless coffee” (not my words, that of eminent anti-Modi intellectual Sadanand Dhume) wants to educate us on LGBT rights. Their ad featured a boy that turns into a girl. I am not saying nonbinary must be discriminated against and of course, that is wrong just as any other discrimination is. But will Starbucks dare to run this ad in any other country they operate in, in Asia? Singapore? Malaysia? Why only us? Go back to what I said, we Hindus are lucky!

I can guess why – some marketing executive in Starbucks is trying to build a career. An ad like this may not bring a single customer through the door or even drive out many, but if that genius applies for transfer to the US, no one dare reject it for being accused of anti-LGBTQ+ hate (that acronym keeps growing, last I checked it had a few more characters, too lazy to type)

Of course, that is just one more in a series of incidents and happenings. 

Our blessed luck in receiving gyan is so bizarre, no, powerful that Qatar, a state accused of supporting ISIS and where being gay or giving up on your faith is a capital offence, is employing Indian media coolies to lecture us on “tolerance”. 

Why, even the US embassy, as if all other consular and other functions are completed successfully and with lots of time on hand, tries to educate us on “disinformation”! They even flew in an “expert” (a leftist faithful no doubt) to educate us on that. Thanks very much, massa, we pagans of colour can read English though we speak with an accent and know all about Nordstrom, Hunter Biden’s laptop, Twitter files, House Oversight committee findings on the Biden family, COVID origin, testing done on vaccines etc., which were covered in such splendid fashion by your “independent” NYT, WaPo, CNN etc. We know exactly what disinformation is. If we are in doubt we have enough Stalinist Maoist leftist rags, online and offline here to tell us. You even sent one of your own to run one of them, thanks very much!

If the Viceroys’ office oops sorry, Embassy here wants to educate us on information, their compatriots back in the States want to solve our caste problems and educate us on modern living. Guess who pilots the California caste bill? One Ms. Wahab. Guess she is done reforming her own community and solving the problems of Afghan women. There’s a lot of spare time to tackle ours. American liberals have considerable experience fixing issues such as enthroning female Pope of colour, FGM, black equality and solving the complex Middle East issues. They are the best to educate us.

Indian businesses too try to educate us on a variety of things – getting rid of our bindis during Diwali, how harmful Holi is to the environment, not throwing eggs at others, not harassing women and so on.

Of course, our Bollywood and its largely atheist or Islamist celebrities are second to none in educating us Hindus. We must be grateful to them for their largesse. Because the task of educating our poor dara hua minorities is left undone. Wonder why? Maybe there is no money in it? Soros doesn’t want to fund it? Or perhaps they think all that is to be learnt was done and finished in the 7th century? 

Even in matters like running our temples, there is stuff we need to learn. That’s why when someone not from our faith is appointed to run them, it’s fascist to protest. Education is one way. There’s nothing for others to learn from us so don’t ask why not reverse?

Left “intellectual” counterparts of Bollywood want us to light diyas and stop bursting crackers. I am not sure if any Bollywood movie called diyas a waste of money or oil but I won’t be surprised if they did. But then they want us not to visit temples and do abhishek with milk but instead give it to the poor – of course, a movie ticket costs a lot more than a few spoons of milk that each devotee contributes, but they don’t want us to cut the movie theatre or IPL ticket bill. 

If you listen to them and give it to the poor there is yet another bunch of Stalinists that will call that “RSS propaganda” and attempts to enforce the “monoculture of Hindutva”. The only way you can escape their attacks is to die. Not that it will stop their abuse. Just that it won’t matter anymore.

Talking of dying, even there we need to be careful. If it happens to be due to, ahem, unnatural causes, just don’t complain about it or make any movies about it. Your complaining friends too will be attacked. In fact, one liberal even wanted to hang them publicly. Movies are only to celebrate the glorious Babur era.

All these pro-bono educators are ostensibly out to give us a scientific temper and bring us to the modern era. How nice it is to learn science and scientific temper from those that worship mass rapist butchers like Stalin proudly when that despot butchered thousands of scientists among others. 

I wish all these educators come here, and spend time teaching us real stuff like physics, chemistry, engineering or mathematics. But then they seem to all come from the world of pseudo sciences, such as social “science”, political “science” & of course, the biggest cesspool of charlatans and frauds of all -economics.  Because had they done that we will have a really scientifically tempered society something these evolution deniers and anti-intellectual butchers pretend to support.

Maharashtra government drops charges against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, suspension revoked

The Maharashtra government recently withdrew all charges against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. In an order dated May 10, 2023, the state government also annulled suspension orders issued in December 2021, stating that he should be considered on duty during his suspension period.

“The memorandum of charges dated 02/12/2021 issued against Shri. Param Bir Singh, IPS (Retd) under Rule 8 of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 is being withdrawn and the said matter is being closed,” an order dated May 10 issued by Joint Secretary to Government, Venkatesh Bhat stated.

Regarding Param Bir Singh’s suspension, the order stated, “As per the provisions of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules. 1958, the suspension of Shri. Param Bir Singh. IPS (Retd) is revoked by this order, and the period of suspension from 02/12/2021 to 30/06/2022 shall be treated as a period spent on duty for all purposes.”

It is notable that Singh retired in June last year and the recent order will impact the pension that he will receive as a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. 

There was a conflict between Singh, the then-Mumbai Police Commissioner, and Anil Deshmukh, the then-state home minister, right after the Antilia bomb scare case, in which explosives were found outside the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

Reacting the decision to drop all charges against Param Bir Singh, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal) gave a judgement under which Param Bir Singh’s departmental inquiry was declared wrong and ordered its closure. It labelled his suspension wrong & requested to take back the suspension order. According to that, this decision was taken”.

Param Bir Singh suspended for irregularities and lapses

In December 2021, Param Bir Singh, who was posted as the DGP of the Maharashtra Home Guard at the time, was suspended by the Uddhav Thackeray-led previous Maharashtra government.

Param Bir Singh was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner after the Antilia bomb scare case. He was then demoted and made the Director General of Maharashtra State Home Guard after he levelled corruption and extortion charges against former home minister Anil Deshmukh.

Extortion charges were filed against Param Bir Singh and 28 others, including six police officials, in July 2021. They were accused of extorting money from a builder named Shyam Sunder Agarwal. 

On the allegation of builder-turned-hotelier Bimal Agrawal, another extortion case was filed against Bir Singh at Goregaon police station. Agarwal alleged that Param Bir Singh and suspended police officer Sachin Waze extorted him of cash and valuables totalling Rs 11 lakh.

Before the Antilia bomb scare case, Param Bir Singh was in controversy for naming Republic TV in the TRP scam case when the FIR in the case didn’t name the channel. Officials of the channel were hounded by Mumbai police led by Singh at that time, but later the Maharashtra govt admitted in court that Republic TV is not named in the FIR in the TRP case. In December last year, he was imposed a penalty of Rs 1500 by a court after he withdrew a defamation case against Arnab Goswami.

Last year, Param Bir Singh had confirmed that the TRP case against Republic Media Network was a hoax and part of a planned conspiracy against Journalist Arnab Goswami. During an interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Singh also alleged that ex-Police Officer Sachin Vaze was taking instructions from the then Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in the TRP case along with other cases.

Under Param Bir Singh, Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami was also arrested under an old case that was already closed. It was found that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Parambir Singh was harassing Goswami in a closed case. But later Param Bir Singh turned against Deshmukh, saying that tainted police officer Sachin Vaze was asked to collect Rs 100 crores in extortion money every month by Deshmukh. He had also revealed that Arnab Goswami was deliberately targeted in an old case related to the abetment of suicide under specific orders from the MVA government.

Param Bir Singh and Sachin Vaze are facing multiple criminal charges in the Antilla bomb scare case, Mansukh Hiren murder case and other cases.

Ever since Sudipto Sen announced making a film based on the religiously profiled sexual grooming of non-Muslim girls with the intent of converting them to Islam and subsequently sending them to ISIS, it has been a topic of controversy in the popular discourse. The release of the teaser, the publishing of the trailer, and the theatrical exhibition of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ – all these phases are marked by a sharp opposition to the film across all the strata of liberals, Islamists, Islamoapologists, anti-Hindus, and anti-India forces.

The spectrum is quite wide encompassing the people from media, social media, politics, and intelligentsia. Most of them denied that love jihad even exists. Others contested over the number of victims only to distract people from the core crux of the crime and the religiously motivated ideology nurturing the same.

The Mamata Bannerji government in West Bengal has banned this movie. There is an undeclared de facto ban on the movie in Tamil Nadu where a selected few theatres are exhibiting the film in the DMK-ruled state. BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are making this film tax-free. NCP leader Jitendra Awhad has said that the makers of the film should be hanged in public.

Notably, none of these pondered a thought on the facts available in the public domain which clearly prove that Kerala is a hotbed of ISIS recruitment, love jihad, and conversions. Many girls were systematically lured by Muslim youths and converted to Islam on the pretext of marriage. They were later sent to Syria to join ISIS or become ‘ISIS brides’. Many other girls who went back to Hinduism are now sharing their stories after ‘The Kerala Story’ voiced their pain.

However, it is not just young girls and women who were converted to Islam. This racket also converted so many men to Islam. Many Muslims in Kerala including these converted men were found involved in different terrorist activities. Scores of reports suggest that Muslims from Kerala – either original or converted – are closely associated with terrorist organisations and activities.

Shankar Venkatesh Perumal alias Ali Muaviya, Shaibu Nihar VK alias Abu Mariyam, and Madesh Shankar alias Abdullah are three prominent examples named in various NIA documents. All three ISIS terrorists first converted to Islam before joining the terror outfit.

In March 2021, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took the initiative to file a case against eight identified individuals, as well as others who remain unidentified, under different sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA found that Mohammed Ameen, also known as Abu Yahya, from Kerala, along with his associates, was operating multiple ISIS propaganda channels on various social media platforms. Their aim was to promote the ideology of ISIS and recruit new members. As part of the investigation, the NIA conducted searches and apprehended three individuals: Mohammad Ameen, Rahees Rasheed, and Mushab Anwar.

As part of the investigation into the Kerala-ISIS module case, on 4th August 2021, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at five different locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, and Kerala. The purpose of these raids was to gather more evidence and information related to the case. During the operation, the NIA apprehended four individuals: Obaid Hamid from Bemina in Srinagar, Muzammil Hassan Bhat from Bandipora in Kashmir, Ammar Abdul Rahman from Ullal Mangalore, and Shankar Venkatesh Perumal, also known as Ali Muaviya, from Bangalore.

Shankar Venkatesh Perumal, who adopted the name Ali Muaviya after converting to Islam, was a member of a group involved in operating multiple ISIS propaganda channels on various social media platforms like Telegram, Hoop, and Instagram. Their primary objective was to promote the violent Jihadi ideology, radicalize individuals, and recruit new members for their terrorist module. Under the leadership of Ameen, this group of radicalized individuals had pledged loyalty to the terrorist organization ISIS. They had also identified specific individuals in Kerala and Karnataka as potential targets for killing.

Shaibu Nihar VK alias Abu Mariyam

On 9th April 2019, Shaibu Nihar VK, also known as Abu Mariyam, was apprehended by the NIA at Calicut International Airport in Kerala upon his arrival from Doha, Qatar. Prior to his arrest, Abu Mariyam had been operating an advertising agency in Bahrain. This arrest was made in connection with the ISIS Wandoor case, which was initially registered by the Kerala Police on November 6, 2017, in Wandoor, located in the Malappuram district. The case involved eight individuals who were accused and charged under sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Subsequently, the NIA took over the case on June 1, 2018, focusing on the activities of the terrorist organization ISIS.

Shaibu Nihar VK alias Abu Mariyam, was convicted by a special NIA court in Ernakulam on 14th September 2022. The court found him guilty under sections 120B and 125 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 38, 39, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The investigations revealed that Shaibu Nihar VK had actively raised funds with the intention of supporting and advancing the activities of ISIS/Daesh. Additionally, he provided the raised funds to his co-accused individuals to facilitate their travel to Syria as per their plans.

Madesh Shankar alias Abdullah

Madesh Shankar was one of the seven accused accomplices of Mohammed Ameen, also known as Abu Yahya who was arrested by the NIA in March 2021. During the investigation, it was discovered that Ameen had been in communication with Deepthi Marla, a converted Muslim who was married to Anas Abdul Rahiman from Mangalore. Marla had traveled to Dubai in 2015 for her studies, where she met Mizha Siddeeque. Both women developed an interest in the terror outfit ISIS during their time in the middle east. In 2019, they attempted to travel to Khorasan with the intention of establishing contact with ISIS terrorists in Tehran. However, their evil efforts were unsuccessful. Upon returning to India, Marla contacted Ameen, along with Obaid Hamid Matta, Madesh Shankar, and others, to plan their journey to the ISIS-controlled territory. In January 2020, she traveled to Srinagar to meet with Obaid and stayed there for a week.

About Madesh Shankar and other terrorists, NIA categorically mentioned that they were affiliated with the banned terrorist organisation ISIS and were involved in radicalising, recruiting, organising terror funds and grooming like-minded gullible Muslim youths through different secured social media platforms to perform Hijrat to ISIS controlled territory to join ISIS. It is notable that Madesh Shankar converted to Islam and became an Abdullah before joining ISIS.

From the above three examples, it is clear enough that not only non-Muslim females but non-Muslim males are also equal targets of conversion by the Islamists in the southern state. In the end, both male and female converts were ultimately sent to middle eastern countries as ISIS terrorists. As shown in the film ‘The Kerala Story’, the girls are brainwashed, lured into a love trap, and converted on the pretext of marriage. The men, on the other hand, fall prey to the portrayal of Hinduism as a false religion and promises of a better life in paradise after attaining death while waging Jihad against Kafirs.

Many attempts have been made to intimidate the people connected with The Kerala Story ever since its trailer was released. Now in the latest incident, Sudipto Sen, the director of the movie has received a fresh threat from Muzaffarpur, Bihar where the film’s posters were also set on fire.

The threat was issued by ‘Haq-e-Hindustan,’ a self-styled social organisation which offered a reward of Rs 21 lakh for whoever gouges out the eye of the director of the multilingual project. The announcement was made by Tamanna Hashmi, the Morcha’s president.

He claimed that an attempt has been made to defame Muslims through it. He referred to the film as provocative and demanded to impose a ban on it. These accusations were made at a demonstration that was held close to the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Memorial by members of the group.

Earlier, a crew member of the film had received a message from an unknown number which read, “Don’t step out of the house alone. You did not do well by showing this story in the film.”

Sudipto Sen filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police, after which the police took cognizance of the matter and provided security to the man. Sadhu Magar, an auto driver who offered free rides to anyone who went to watch the film received multiple death threats from both India and abroad and had to be assigned police protection.

Notably, the cinema venture which was released on May 5 is enjoying a phenomenal response despite all the objections from Muslims, liberals and the opposition parties and has already minted more than 80 crores at the domestic box office in the first seven days of its release. It is now being screened in more than 37 countries.

The Kerala Story follows the life of Shalini Unnikrishnan, a Hindu girl played by Adah Sharma who is brainwashed into embracing Islam by her Muslim friend, married a Muslim man and escapes to Syria along with her spouse where she is sent to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and is tortured there.

The movie is focused on how non-Muslim girls particularly from the Hindu community are duped into engaging in love jihad and are later exploited for nefarious agendas by the Islamists.

Despite all the controversies surrounding The Kerala Story, the film seems to feel the pulse of the audience which is reflected in its phenomenal box office performance. It continues to rake in great numbers and is being appreciated by the masses, especially at a time when many films are struggling to make decent numbers at the box office.

The movie, which had a relatively modest budget, proceeded to grow in momentum and managed to earn 81.36 crores in its initial seven days of release.

It garnered 8.03 crore on its first day which was Friday. This put the opening day collection of the multilingual project ahead of The Kashmir Files which minted 3.55 crore and progressed to become a huge blockbuster. The Kerala Story went on to make 11.22 crore on Saturday, 16.40 crore on Sunday, 10.07 crore on Monday, 11.14 crore on Tuesday, 12 crore on Wednesday and 12.50 crore on Thursday.

It is expected to generate significantly bigger revenues over its second weekend and is on track to cross the 100-crore mark at the domestic box office in the next two days. It has already entered the 100-crore club globally.

If the movie maintains its impressive box office results, it will undoubtedly surpass the 200 crore milestone much like Vivek Agnihotri’s venture did last year.

The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and featuring Adah Sharma in the lead role was released in theatres on May 5 in spite of strong objections from Muslims, liberals and the opposition parties.

It also faced multiple threats and bans in states including Tamil Nadu and West Bengal where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered to stop its screening to ‘maintain law and order in the state.’ However, the makers of the movie have approached the Supreme Court against this decision.

Its story revolves around a Hindu girl, Shalini Unnikrishnan from Kerala who is brainwashed to accept Islam by her Muslim friend, gets married to a Muslim man and goes to Syria along with her spouse where she is sent to the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and tortured there.

A fresh case of Love Jihad has emerged in Nuh, Haryana where a Hindu girl has approached the police against a Muslim youth named Mausam Khan accusing him of cheating, abduction, rape, torture and forced conversion.

In the complaint, the victim, studying in BA second year in the Dharuhera area of Rewari district in Haryana, alleged that Mausam Khan befriended her by concealing his identity. After she fell into his ‘love’ trap, the accused sexually exploited her. Then, Mausam Khan, along with his kin abducted her. They forced her to convert and marry Mausam Khan at gunpoint. When she protested, they held her captive in a room where Mausam Khan’s brother Salim raped her.

The torture continued for three years until she managed to escape and return to her parents in Rewari on April 19, 2023. She told her father about her ordeal, and he went to the Dharuhera police with the victim to lodge a complaint against Mausam Khan and his family. The police registered a case based on her complaint and started investigating the matter.

The woman said that she met Mausam Khan in 2020. He introduced himself as Prem. The accused started showering her with expensive gifts and also claimed a relative of his was employed at a high post and would get her a job too. On November 18, 2020, he took her by bike to Haridwar where he sexually exploited her. The next day, he took her to a mandir where he married her as per Hindu customs.

On November 20, 2020, Mausam Khan’s father Tahir Khan, uncles- Tasavvar, Akbar and Suleiman, and Tahir Khan’s friend Babulal reached Haridwar and forcefully took her away in a car to their village Uton in the Nuh district of Haryana. There, they held her at gunpoint and forced her to convert to Islam and marry Mausam Khan, whom she had until then mistaken for a Hindu named Prem. When she protested, she was assaulted and held captive in their house. Mausam Khan’s brother Salim raped her.

On April 18 2023, she was again badly assaulted by Mausam Khan and his kin. The next day she finally managed to flee and approached the police.

Though states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Karnataka, have enacted stringent laws that criminalise Love Jihad and other forms of illegal conversions, several incidents continue to emerge every other day from every nook and corner of the country where susceptible and vulnerable Hindu women are being targeted and exploited in the name of ‘love’.

On Thursday, May 11, the Delhi Public School on Mathura Road received a bomb threat over an email on its official email ID. The school authorities informed the police following which a police team along with a bomb squad arrived at the school. The threat, however, turned out to be a hoax as the police and the bomb squad found nothing suspicious on the school premises.

In the email received at 6:17 pm on Thursday, the sender threatened to blow up the school at 11 am on Friday (May 12). “I am going to blast the school at 11 am on May 12,” the mail read according to a senior police official.

Following the threat, two teams of the bomb disposal squad along with sniffer dogs and local staff members searched the school premises, but no bomb was found. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo, the investigation found that the email was sent from the ID of a student who denied doing so.

“The entire school was scanned with the assistance of two bomb disposal squad teams and sniffer dogs. Local personnel manually checked the premises and found nothing suspicious. It was a hoax. An additional investigation is underway,” DCP Deo stated.

It is pertinent to note that a similar threat mail was received by DPS Mathura Road in April, which turned out to be hoaxed. The police investigation had revealed that a DPS student had sent the mail threatening to blow up the school “just for fun”. The student used Russia based server to evade suspicion. However, police found out that the sender was in Delhi. The Delhi Police let off the student after counseling.

SC stays the promotion of 68 judicial officers as district judges in Gujarat; the judge who convicted Rahul Gandhi unaffected by the order

The promotion of 68 judicial officials to the position of district judge in the State of Gujarat was put on hold by the Supreme Court on Friday after it objected to the State Government’s notification of the promotions while their validity remained a matter under appeal before the Court.

The Gujarat High Court’s proposal for the promotion of judicial officials and the subsequent government announcement to carry out the recommendation were both halted by a bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar.

“State govt issued notification during the pendency of plea and after this court issued notice…We stay the High Court recommendation and the government notification. Respective promotes are sent to their original post which they were holding before promotion,” Justice MR Shah said while reading out the operative portion of the judgment. The present stay order would be applicable to those promotes whose names do not figure within the first 68 candidates in the merit list, the bench clarified further in the order.

Justice Shah also said that promotions need to be based on the merit-cum-seniority approach and need to pass a suitability test. Recommendations by the HC and the ensuing government announcement are unlawful. 

Following the verdict, many media organisations reported that Harish Hasmukh Bhai Varma, who rendered the judgement of conviction against Congressman Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case that resulted in his exclusion from the Lok Sabha, is one of the 68 judges whose elevation would be affected by the stay order.

However, Justice MR Shah, the Supreme Court judge who issued the order, clarified to Bar & Bench on Sunday that the media had inaccurately reported the stay granted by him. He emphasized that the judge who convicted Gandhi would not be affected by the stay.

This is due to the explicit clarification in the order that the stay would not be applicable to individuals on the list who would be promoted solely on the basis of merit. Such individuals would still be eligible for promotion even if the criteria were solely based on merit.

“That order has nothing to do with one person. The issue was about merit-cum-seniority or seniority-cum-merit. The reports on social media say that the bench stayed all 68 promotions, but those persons have not read the order. Promotions of only persons falling outside the merit list (and who were promoted based on seniority) have stayed,” Bar and Bench quoted Justice Shah as saying.

“I have read that the gentleman (Surat court judge in Rahul Gandhi case) is not getting the promotion. That is also not true. He is also getting the promotion on merit. He is first among the 68 in terms of merit,” Justice Shah told Bar and Bench.

SC stays the promotion of 68 judicial officers

The appeal before the SC sought to contest the Gujarat government’s suggestions for the elevation of district judges in the state. The petitioners claimed that the appointments had been made in violation of the recruitment rules, which required that district judge positions be filled by reserving 65% of seats on merit-cum-seniority basis and on the candidates passing a suitability test.

The Gujarat High Court and the state government were given notice by the top court last month on the basis of the petitioners’ arguments. It’s interesting to note that, at the time notice was served, the Gujarat government was still reviewing the high court’s recommendation to promote the concerned district judges. But less than a week later, the state administration announced the promotions of the justices the high court had recommended.

The Supreme Court responded by strongly objecting to the promotions given to district judges in Gujarat in March, while the case was still pending challenging the names the high court had recommended. Justice Shah had described this as an “overreach” on the part of the executive. The bench stated, “We are initially of the opinion that it is nothing but an overreach of the court’s process and the current proceedings.” It stated the following on April 28:

“It is very unfortunate that despite the fact that the respondents/State Government were aware of the present proceedings, the state government has issued the promotion order after the receipt of the notice issued by this court in the proceedings. In the promotion order, even the state government had stated that the promotions are subject to the ultimate outcome of these proceedings. We do not appreciate the haste and hurry in which the State has approved and passed the promotion order when this court was seized with the matter and a detailed order was passed issuing notice. It is to be noted that the selection was of the year 2022, therefore there was no extraordinary urgency in passing the promotion order.”

The state secretary was also called to appear in court on the following hearing date to provide an explanation in person. The division bench warned that the government’s notification would be suspended if it was not pleased with the provided reason.

In front of the government officials present in court earlier this month, Justice Shah interrogated the Gujarati state’s attorney and demanded an explanation for the decision to announce the promotions after the Supreme Court took the case. The judge scolded the administration for attempting to “overreach” the court’s procedures once more.

“What was the extraordinary hurry that the state government could not wait ten days before notifying the promotions? Is your secretary above the law? This is nothing but an attempt to overreach this court and the present proceedings. We are taking this matter very seriously. We can finish anyone’s career. Never try to overreach the Supreme Court’s process,” Justice Shah exclaimed.

The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered news channels, including Sudarshan News, and social media platforms like YouTube, Google, and Twitter to delete/block links/remove reports of news about a man named Azmat Ali Khan, accused of forcing a Sikh woman of embracing Islam.

Justice Prathiba M. Singh took serious exception to the video of the love jihad report and the word ‘jihadi’ being used in it. The court cited the threats received by Azmat Ali Khan, evidenced by the comments under the video and ordered the immediate removal of the video from public viewing.

The counsel representing Khan informed the court that he has already been granted anticipatory bail in the case. However, they argued that a news channel is engaging in harassment by making false allegations against him, which could potentially hinder a fair trial. The counsel also referred to a news debate conducted by Aaj Tak last night.

Several news organisations, including Sudarshan News, had reported on the alleged love jihad case reported from Delhi, where a Sikh woman had accused her friend, Azmat Ali Khan, of rape, recording her obscene videos and forcing her to convert to Islam.

After the victim declined to convert, Azmat Ali Khan, the accused, issued a threat to splash acid on her face and end her life.

Sikh widow files an FIR against Azmat Ali Khan for forced conversion, threatening her of attacking with acid

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against one Azmat Ali Khan, invoking multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rape after a Sikh woman accused him of rape and blackmailing for forcing her to embrace Islam.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) obtained by IANS, the victim encountered Azmat Ali Khan, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, on Facebook in 2016, leading to the development of a friendship between them. She mentioned that Khan was a mutual acquaintance of her Kathak Dance instructor, which prompted her to accept his friend request on Facebook.

Subsequently, their friendship evolved into a deeper connection, and by 2017, they entered into a romantic relationship. The woman has made an accusation that Khan secretly recorded a video of her during an intimate moment.

According to her statement, the woman expressed that Khan exerted pressure on her to convert to Islam, despite her firm refusal. She informed him that she identifies as a Sikh and intends to maintain her Sikh faith even after marriage. However, Khan insisted that she must embrace Islam, wear a burqa, perform five daily prayers (Namaz), and observe fasting (Roza). The woman stood her ground, emphasizing that he could not compel her to change her religion in the name of love. Consequently, she made the decision to sever ties with him.

Following that, the victim maintained a distance from Khan even as the latter kept on sending her messages. The victim has alleged that Khan threatened to release all of her videos on social media if she ignored him, thereby jeopardizing her entire career. She claims that he persistently sent abusive messages to her as well.
