The year was 2007. The Yadav brothers, Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, were found eve-teasing women on New Year’s eve. The incident first took place at Ashoka hotel and then at Connaught place. They then attended a party at Chhatarpur area on Delhi-Haryana border. While the duo was returning from the party, they decided to tease girls who were partying at a farmhouse in Mehrauli. Their courage was somewhat bolstered after they got away with earlier two instances of eve-teasing.

However, things turned ugly when a group of men brutally thrashed Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav for passing inappropriate remarks at the girls in Mehrauli. At that time, the duo was accompanied by security personnel, including the Railway Protection Force and Delhi PSOs. They were rushed to a hospital and were provided first aid. It is not known what happened in the aftermath of the case. But it is important to remember that Lalu Prasad Yadav was the then Union Minister for Railways in the Congress-ruled UPA government.

The Women’s Helpline service had reported a total of 474 cases in the capital of Bihar in 2019. With rising cases of crimes against women in the State, it becomes indispensable for the upcoming government to take effective measures to ensure women safety. But, what if the political leaders with a history of sexual harassment are elected to power? One can imagine the disastrous effects it can have on the dwindling state of women safety in Bihar.

The rise of the Yadav brothers to power corridor

Despite a stunning victory in the 2014 General elections, the BJP failed to capitalise in the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. Even after putting up a formidable fight, the BJP lost to the Mahaghatbandhan, a coalition government of JDU, Congress and the RJD. The Rashtriya Janata Dal, led by Lalu Yadav was able to secure a whopping 81 seats in an assembly of 243 and thus became the largest party.

This paved the way for the rise of Yadav brothers in Bihar politics. Tej Pratap Yadav won the elections from the Mahua constituency in Bihar and was handed over the charge as the Health Minister and the Environment Minister. Similarly, his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav was elected to the State Assembly from the Raghopur constituency and assumed the charge of the Deputy Chief Minister. They remained in power until July 2017, when the JD(U) withdrew its support to the coalition government. Since then, Tejashwi Yadav had assumed the charge of the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly.

The Yadav brothers have been actively campaigning, ahead of the upcoming 2020 Bihar elections. While elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav has been cycling and playing the flute to lure voters towards the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the younger brother have been delivering speeches to large crowds.

As everyone was enjoying a relaxed afternoon after stuffing their mouths with the favourite festival food on Dussehra, a little battle was brewing on Twitter between abusive troll masquerading as a journalist Swati Chaturvedi and conspiracy theorist masquerading as a journalist Rana Ayyub.

It all started when Chaturvedi decided that she is being snooped upon by the home ministry. That she thinks her conspiracy theories based on the voices in her head would lead to ‘snooping’ is a different ballgame altogether. Earlier in the day she tweeted to Home Minister Amit Shah to asking him to stop NSA Ajit Doval from spying on her.

She claimed that Ajit Doval sent spies at her place under the guise of Airtel service providers. And then, out of the blue she invoked one ‘fraud’ who is a ‘Washington Post plagiariser’ in her tweets. To clear everyone’s doubts on who this ‘fraud’ is, Swati next named and shamed the alleged ‘Washington Post plagiariser’. Shockingly, she referred to Rana Ayyub as ‘PMO India stooge’ in Washington Post.

In fact, shocking would be a mild term considering Rana Ayyub has not really made her dislike (to put it mildly and legally safe) for PM Modi and HM Amit Shah any secret. While we are still trying to figure out what triggered this meltdown from Swati, we are not quite complaining.

A furious Swati invoked disgraced former cop Sanjiv Bhatt to talk about how Rana Ayyub’s alleged journalism was nothing but quite likely politically motivated (that’s what even the Supreme Court of India said).

She then claims that how even Tejpal, Tehalka’s Editor who is currently in jail on sexual harassment charges, did not print Rana Ayyub’s fantasies which she claims was ‘investigative journalism’. To reinforce her point that Rana is PMO India stooge, she casts aspersions that Rana’s fantasy, “Gujarat Files” was ‘silent’ on PM Modi.

Now there are a few factual errors here also because Rana’s book was not really on 2002 riots but on Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter. Of course, Rana mentions the Gujarat riots but does not specify that the then Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah whom she was targeting for riots, was not the Home Minister of state when the Godhra carnage and following riots took place. It was actually Gordhan Zadaphia. Though it is a different thing that her ‘sting investigation’ in Sohrabuddin encounter was more about 2002 riots. No wonder the Supreme Court trashed it.

Swati then claimed that Washington Post, with a history of anti-India articles, is nicely placed with anti-Modi Rana who is a Modi stooge. (Not kidding, Swati really does made this fantastical claims.)

She then said how this also works because people like Hartosh Singh Bal keep attacking her. Calling him ‘misogynistic person’, Swati questioned him whether he has done even single exclusive reportage.

Training her guns back at Rana Ayyub, Swati Chaturvedi revealed that Gulf News had taken up plagiarism issue with Washington Post for Rana’s articles.

She then adds how Tehelka was Rana Ayyub’s only job before Washington Post gave her any credence.

She even revealed that the sexual harassment accused Tarun Tejpal had also referred to Rana Ayyub as ‘fraud and lazy reporter’. Swati was then questioned by lawyer-activists for invoking Tejpal, who himself is accused of sexual harassment.

Swati here argued that even Shoma Choudhury of Tehelka did not find Ayyub’s up to editorial standards (??) of Tehelka.

Suddenly Prophet Tejpal was no longer reliable.

Swati then shared an old Facebook post by disgraced cop Sanjiv Bhatt where he had insinuated, without really naming Rana Ayyub, that she had “amorous” relationship with one IPS officer investigating the encounter cases and with an activist-lawyer who was fighting the 2002 riots victims’ case.

In comments section, some had asked him who was the lawyer-activist he was talking about. Bhatt had claimed it was someone who suffered from cancer and had passed away.

Bhatt’s post made many people wonder who was the lawyer-activist being talked about.

Back then netizens had speculated whether the lawyer-activist in question was Mukul Sinha. He had died of cancer a couple of years back.

For the uninitiated, Mukul Sinha’s son, Pratik Sinha is co-founder of AltNews. As of now, Sinha has has never fact-checked Sanjiv Bhatt’s these claims about the 2002 riots.

Soon support started pouring in for Rana Ayyub too.

Swati was accused of being a ‘jealous hater’.

‘Journalist’ who himself passes off pictures of Syria as that of Kashmir, too came out in support of Rana Ayyub.

Meanwhile, support is also pouring in for Swati, including that from dubious accounts.

Assam: Congress MLA demands ‘Miya Museum’ for immigrant Bangladeshis, govt rejects saying they don’t have separate culture

Assam health, finance, PWD and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that no Miya Museum will be established at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Rejecting the demand for the same, the senior minister said that the people living in the char areas (islands in Brahmaputra) in Assam have no separate identity and culture, as they are migrants from Bangladesh.

Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati is a cultural complex situated in Guwahati, which houses several facilities like a museum showcasing Assam’s history and culture, library, an open-air theatre, an Artists’ Village, an art and cultural exhibition, a heritage park etc. Recently, Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed had demanded that Assam govt should establish a Miya Museum inside the complex. The word Miya refers to Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants living in the state. They largely live in the char areas in the states, the sandbars in Brahmaputra river and tributaries.

“I have proposed a museum for the people living on the sandbars of Assam. The museum should be established at Kalakshetra. Since the majority of population of these areas is from so-called Miya community, therefore it should be named as Miya Museum,” Sherman Ali Ahmed had said. The Congress MLA from Baghbar had said that a museum reflecting the culture and heritage of the Miya people living in the Char-Chaporis (Sandbars) of Assam should be set up on the premises of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra. He had also written to the director of museums of the state government with the demand.

The demand had triggered sharp reaction from ruling BJP and several other organisations, who vehemently opposed it. BJP leader Pabitra Margherita said, “Miya Museum should be established at Rajiv Bhawan and AIUDF office. We warn Congress and AIUDF to stay away from the works and places associated with Srimanta Sankardeva.”

Asserting that the state government has rejected the demand, Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday, “The Assam Government wants to clearly state that no Miya Museum or any other museums will be set up at Sankardeva Kalakshetra. The directorate of museums will not also set up any Miya Museum.”

He also added that the Kalakshetra has been under target by a certain section since the anti-CAA protests last year. He reminded how the gate of the complex was destroyed by the protestors during the violent protests. “Now they are eyeing on the Kalakshetra. There is no question of a museum there reflecting other culture and civilization,” minister Sarma affirmed.

Earlier on Saturday, the minister had tweeted to say that there is no separate identity and culture in Char regions of Assam as most of the people had migrated from Bangladesh.

“Obviously, in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra, which is the epitome of Assamese culture, we will not allow any distortion. Sorry MLA Sahab”, he had tweeted, posting the letter written by Ahmed to the Director of Museums.

The Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra situated in Panjabari area in the city is the result of the historic Assam Accord signed in 1985. It was established to preserve the culture and heritage of the indigenous people of Assam according to the clause 6 of the accord, including the Satriya Culture propagated by Srimanta Sankardeva.

After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hit out at French President Emmanuel Macron for his alleged Islamophobic comments, Islamists around the world had come forward to boycott French products. The social media campaign is premised on the actions of the French residents to publicly display ‘blasphemous’ Charlie Hebdo cartoons, in the aftermath of the beheading of a 47-year-old history teacher named Samuel Paty in Paris.

Erdogan had lashed out at Macron on October 6 for saying that Islam is in crisis all over the world. He stated, “What is the problem of this person called Macron with Muslims and Islam? Macron needs treatment on a mental level…” The Turkish President further claimed, “What else can be said to a head of state who does not understand freedom of belief and who behaves in this way to millions of people living in his country who are members of a different faith. First of all, have mental checks.”

Following Erdogan’s statement, France recalled its ambassador from Turkey saying that outrage and insult are not method. This has irked the Pakistanis.

Pakistanis lead global online campaign to boycott ‘France’ products

Bolstered by the verbal support of the ‘modern-day Caliph’, Pakistanis took to Twitter to trend #boycottfranceproducts.

Editor of Pakistani publication The News Ansar Abbasi claimed that the entire Islamic world must protest against France and its ‘shameful’ attack on faith of Muslims. He even used ‘MacronGoneMad’ hashtag. Abbasi was quite upset as is evident. Others, too, joined in. ‘Invisible Soldiers of Pakistan’ (irony is quite lost on the group) also vowed to boycott ‘France’ products.

Another Pakistani (@RashkEHina10) claimed that infidels (disbelievers in Islam) support other infidels but not Muslims. Calling for a global blacklisting of French products and the need for Muslims to unite, the Twitter user wrote, “France should be blacklisted- but it will not be done- because the infidel only supports the infidel. So why does the Muslim not support the Muslim? All Muslims should unite and boycott France.”

Another Pakistani Shahid Sheik, who regularly shares tweets of Rahul Gandhi, suggested that the French President had leant Islamophobia from Narendra Modi. While issuing a veiled threat to the French government that blasphemy will not be ‘tolerated’, Sheik commented, “Macron Needs Mental Treatment. Now, I understand from where he learnt Islamophobia. It’s my appeal to #boycottfrenchproducts because blasphemy of My Beloved prophet Muhammad PBUH will not be tolerated anymore.”

Based on a skewed understanding of ‘freedom of speech’, a Twitter handle (@PEF_Schools) from Pakistan claimed that public display of Prophet Muhammad’s cartoons is against humanity and freedom of expression. “It is a deplorable act. (We) demand immediate expelling of France ambassador from Pakistan.”

Calling for unification of Muslims in facilitating boycott of French products throughout the world, Pakistani wrote, “My name is Ahmad Faraz. I am from Pakistan It’s my appeal to all Muslims to #boycottfranceproducts because they did blasphemy of My Beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Replace my name & country with yours and tweet this.” He had uploaded the picture of a banner in which an image of the French president was juxtaposed with the imprint of a shoe.

Another Twitter user named Yousaf Kashif revealed that every Muslim in the world is ready to shun away his life for the sake of Allah and the Prophet. “Every Muslim in this Earth is ready for sacrificing himself for Allah and his prophet peace be upon him, we can do it together and boycott anything French.” The Islamist had also put out a list, sourced from Twitter, highlighting the names of french brands and other companies.

Islam is in crisis all over world, conceded French President

Prior to the beheading case, the French President Emmanuel Macron took the stage at city hall in the Paris suburb of Les Mureaux to deliver one of the most consequential speeches of his career. He stated, “It is Islamic separatism that we have to attack. Islamic separatism is a conscious effort, a politico-religious one. It repeatedly breaks with the values of the Republic and aims to form a counter-society.”

Macron continued, “This takes the form of taking kids out of school, developing sports and cultural communities that become an excuse for teaching principles that do not conform to the laws of the Republic. This indoctrination negates our principles such as equality of men and women and the dignity of the human being.“

The beheading of Samuel Paty

Paty was killed on October 16 by 18-year-old radical Islamist named Abdoullakh Abouyezidovitch A in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine for showcasing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad to his students at College du Bois d’Aulne. The terrorist had uploaded the gory pictures of the murder on Twitter, before being shot dead by the French police. It has come to light now that the gruesome attack was the result of doxxing and vitriolic online campaign, led by the father of a 13-year old student of the deceased and the local mosque.

Pakistan loves Turkey

Recently, Pakistan has found fresh love for Turkey especially after the Turkish serial Ertugrul made waves in Pakistan. Imran Khan had claimed that Bollywood has been ‘spoiling’ Pakistanis and had urged all Pakistanis to watch Turkish TV drama Ertugrul instead. The Pakistani government has also called for a translation of the Turkish drama so the Pakistani public understands it better.

There have been reports of Turkey radicalising Indian Muslim youth with help of Pakistan. Soon after, the videos of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband Robert Vadra was found holidaying in Turkey.

Hashtag #MoveTheGames is trending on Twitter with an aim to urge the organizers to move the venue for Winter Olympics 2022 out of China. On 6th October, UK announced that it might boycott Winter Olympics 2022 if more evidence makes it clear that there has been a gross violation of the Human Rights of Uyghur Muslims in China. The foreign secretary Dominic Raab has said, “Generally speaking, my instinct is to separate sport from diplomacy and politics, but there comes the point when it is not possible.”

There has been a sharp increase in anti-China sentiments across the globe over several issues. From using loans to take control of assets in developing countries to use its dominance in technology to spy on government officials across the globe, China has been accused of many wrongs, and the Covid-19 pandemic that originated from Wuhan in China made people lean towards boycotting Chinese products and services. India has banned 300+ Chinese apps and cancelled contracts with Chinese companies over increasing tension on the India-China border. India Today releases a squint eyed statement, pats itself in the back for paying Rs 5 L to the court in TRP manipulation case, not BARC

India Today has released a statement on the current TRP scam and it makes no sense.

India Today’s statement

India Today begins with claiming that certain section of media is ‘misreporting’ the reasons it has approached Bombay High Court against BARC. India Today claims it approached the Bombay High Court against a BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) order for various reasons and patted itself on back for paying Rs 5 lakh as directed by the court on the stay order.

Earlier this month, OpIndia had reported that TV Today Network had failed to provide a satisfactory answer to the BARC Disciplinary Council (BDC) as to the “abnormal” and “inexplicable” increase in India Today’s TRPs. The BDC had passed an order imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the media network for viewership malpractice. India Today Group had had later issued a statement admitting that it was fined by BARC for viewership malpractice. In its statement, the Group had accused BARC of leaking confidential hearings. 

Now, tying itself in knots, India Today released a statement speaking about same things with explicit clarity that the group paid fine to the court and not to BARC over the order of BARC committee.

India Today claims it is unaware of being named in FIR by Hansa Report

Hansa Research, the company that manages the Bar-O-meters of BARC, had recently alleged that India Today was bribing households with the meters installed to watch their channel for at least 2 hours a day. Initially, in a hurried press conference, Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh had claimed that Republic TV was accused of manipulating TRP. However, a report by Hansa Research and the FIR filed based on it were accessed by Republic TV showed that India Today was named in the case, not Republic.

Now, India Today has claimed it is not aware of any such reports.

News Broadcasters Association asks Republic journalists not to cross ‘Lakshman Rekha’, says their journalism is toxic and unethical

A day after the News Broadcasters Association opposed the CBI probe in the TRP manipulation case, the association has come up with another statement, this time to apparently express concern about the way Maharashtra government is hounding Republic TV. But even though it appeared to oppose the actions of Mumbai police, it went on to slam the Republic TV for the kind of journalism it practices and asked its journalists to revolt against Arnab Goswami.

The NBA has said that they are deeply concerned that journalists working in the newsroom have become victims of this ‘unfortunate conflict’, but remained silent on the targeted attack by Mumbai Police on Republic News Network.

While NBA said that it stands for freedom of speech and expression of the editorial staff of Republic TV even though the network is not its member and does not subscribe to its Code, it took great pain to not say anything directly against the Maharashtra government and Mumbai Police. Although the NBA tried to do a balancing act by criticising the police action and the Republic, in fact, the entire statement is slamming Republic, with some text thrown in to express concern about journalists and freedom of speech.

In the second para itself, the statement says, “we do not approve of the kind of journalist that is being practised by Republic TV”. Then it adds that while it stands for freedom of speech, it also endorses the practice of ethics in journalism, and fair and balanced reporting, implying that the reporting by Republic is not ethical and fair.

In the entire statement, the NBA sought to make a difference between journalists working in Republic TV and the channel itself, exposing its deep hatred for Arnab Goswami. It appealed Mumbai Police to ‘ensure that no journalists are made victims of this crossfire’. This directly means that they are ok with Mumbai police hounding Republic and its promoter-editor, and they are only concerned about the journalists. They appealed that journalists working with Republic to not cross the Lakshman Rekha, means asking them to revolt against Arnab Goswami.

The NBA states that “it does not support toxic content and unethical journalism”, thereby passing a verdict on Republic TV.

NBA said that the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) formed by it has played an important role in monitoring content of news channels. It mentions how the NBSA had punished and fined channels for unethical reporting on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, and appealed Republic to follow the codes of ethics of NBSA even though it is not member. But the NBA failed to mention that all the channels punished by NBSA are NBA members. In fact, one of the channels punished is India TV, run by NBA president Rajat Sharma.

The NBA again included its opposition to the CBI probe in the TRP scam case, saying it expresses serious concern about the FIR registered by UP Police and subsequent transfer of the case to CBI. It requested the UP govt to withdraw the FIR referred to CBI. This is a shocking stand by NBA, because by now everyone knows how the Mumbai police is trying to implicate Republic TV and shield NBA member India Today in the TRP case. The complaint and FIR in the case had named India Today, but Mumbai police is taking action against Republic TV, trying to get the witnesses to change their statement. Even in such a scenario, NBA wants Mumbai police to continue the probe and opposes CBI investigation in the case.

This shows that it showing concern about the journalists of Republic TV is just a lip service, and actually it supports the attempt of Mumbai Police to shut down the channel.

It may be noted that Republic TV is a member of the News Broadcasters Federation, a rival organisation of news channels. With around 80 national and regional news channels, NBF is much larger in terms of number of member channels. Arnab Goswami is president of NBF.

“Allah will burn this woman in Hell”, Islamists attack TMC leader Nusrat Jahan for participating in Durga Puja

Hours after Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and actress Nusrat Jahan participated in the festivities of Durga Puja, she was abused by radical Islamists for committing ‘sin’ and bringing disrepute to Islam.

ANI had shared videos and pictures on Twitter wherein the actress was seen playing the dhaak, folding hands before Goddess Durga and dancing in jubilation.

Despite being a target of online hate in the past, Nusrat Jahan nevertheless uploaded a video of her dancing to the tunes of dhaak on the occasion of Durga Puja. However, she was immediately harassed by intolerant bigots from both India and Bangladesh.

Islamists slam Nusrat Jahan for worshipping idols

Mohammed Wasim tweeted, “You should feel ashamed, Nusrat Jahan. You need to respect our religion. None is stopping you from celebrating but you are worshipping idols. Shame on you. You are a blot on the name of Muslims. I will suggest you read our Hadiths. “

Mohamad Tarik wrote on Twitter, “Lokpriyata ke liya kuchi bhi karegi, naachna gaana toh iska pehela se dhanda hai, koi apna dhanda bada raha hai kaya buri baat hai (She will do anything for fame. Dancing and singing is her trade. If someone is expanding on such immoral business, then, there is nothing bad in it).” It is pertinent to remember that singing and dance are considered ‘Haaram’ in Islam. Tarik, therefore, insuinated that Nusrat Jahan was characterless for engaging in such ‘dirty business’.

Instagram user Asif Ismail said that Nusrat Jahan was a blot on the name of Islam. “Muslim name kolonko (You are a blot on the name of Islam).“ Another Instagrammer (@kiana_mahek) claimed, “Sirk Kari Mohila (Sinful woman)”

Radical Islamists dehumanise Nusrat Jahan, calls her Satan and wh*re

The radical Islamists also resorted to dehumanise the actress with terms such as ‘Satan’, ‘wh*re’, and ‘jahaanami.’ A radical Islamist (@dildo_kumar.bappaditya01), wrote, “Allah er gazab puduk jahnammir upar (Allah will burn this woman in Hell).” Another Instagram user named Ali referred to her as ‘daughter of a wh*re’. Meanwhile, a disenchanted Shaifuddin wrote, “Shaitan ki nasal ho tum sharm nhi aati tumko itna ganda kaam karne see (You are the descendant of Satan -Evil. Don’t you feel any shame for doing such dirty things?) ”

Death threats to the actress

One Instagram user (@shahbuzgalisa) told the actress to fear death as the judgment day is inching closer on her. “Mritu ke bhoi koro, Kayamat ati nikat (Fear Death! The Judgment day is near.)” Another user (@mushrura4) asked, “wow, tomra nijeke musalman bolo (Wow! You guys call yourselves Muslims (even after celebrating Durga Puja)?” Another follower of Allah (@babulgazi003003) wondered why He hasn’t taken out the actress from the world. The user wrote, “Allah er gazab dekho agulo more na ader corona o dhore na (Look at the doings of Allah! These guys neither die nor get infected with the deadly Coronavirus).”

Islamists issue death threats to Nusrat Jahan ahead of Durga Puja

This is not the first time that Nusrat Jahan has been issued threats by Radical Islamists. Last month, she was abused with the choicest of expletives by radical Islamists from both India and Bangladesh for dressing up as Goddess Durga on Mahalaya. The fanatics questioned her integrity for not following Islam and also issued death threats.

While issuing death threats and the need for ‘modesty’, an Instagram user (@mkkhan486) wrote, ‘Your time of death has come. Fear Allah. Can’t you keep your body covered? Chi Chi Chi.’ While emphasising that the actress will be doomed to Hell and how Allah is watching over everything, another Instagram user (@alisk217) wrote, “Shame on you for doing this as a Mulsim. You have no shame left in you. You are condemned to go to Jahanam aka Hell. No shame. Allah is watching everything.”

Muslim clerics attack Nusrat Jahan for participating in Durga Puja

Last year, a cleric from the Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, named Mufti Azad Wasmi, had slammed the Trinamool Congress leader saying that a Muslim should not offer prayers to any God other than Allah. “She has been participating in such prayers, there is nothing new in this. However, under Islam, a follower is not allowed to offer prayers to any God other than Allah, this is ‘haram’. She should change her name and religion,” the cleric said on camera.

Last year, photographs of Nusrat Jahan attending Durga Puja wither her husband Nikhil Jain had gone viral, which had resulted in similar attack from Islamists. She was also targeted by Islamists due to her marriage with a Jain man.

Times Now asked to air apology to Rahul Gandhi fangirl Sanjukta Basu for calling her ‘Hindu hater’, “We won”, she tweets

The News Broadcast Standards Authority (NBSA) has directed Times Now to apologise to Rahul Gandhi fan-girl Sanjukta Basu for calling her ‘Hindu hater’ and not providing her with the opportunity to rebut the claim.

The Background of the case

Reportedly, Times Now had aired a show on April 6, 2018, where the channel had labelled her as ‘Hindu hater’, ‘Army hater’, ‘Rahul Gandhi’s troll army’ and ‘vile creature’. Sanjkuta Basu had claimed that her name and identity was ‘dragged’ into the controversy by Times Now in the most ‘derogatory, derisive, and defamatory manner’. The Congress loyalist further alleged that she was not provided with the opportunity to give her version of the story.

She claimed, “I believe that the said programmes were not in good faith as the very premise of the programmes were faulty and bereft of logic. For example, by their own admission, the programmes were in response to a certain Kutta Billi jibe made by BJP leader Amit Shah on April 6, 2018.”

The directive to the news channel comes 19 months after Basu had filed a complaint with the NBSA. She had moved the Supreme Court recently, citing ‘inherent weaknesses of the adjudicating process’ of NBSA. It was then that the organisation intervened and asked Times Now to air an apology.

NBSA directs Times Now to apologise on air

The NBSA has directed Times Now to telecast an apology message for name-calling Sanjukta Basu on-air in large font and audible voice-over on October 27.

“We regret that in the programmes aired on 6.4.2018 – ‘India Upfronr@ 8 pm and “The Newshour Debate’@ 9 pm on Times Now channel, we had not taken the version of the complainant Ms. Sanjukta Basu, thereby violating the principles relating to impartiality and objectivity and ensuring neutrality and fairness in reporting. We clarify that there was no intention to bring disrepute to Ms. Sanjukta Basu,” the message should read.

The channel has been asked to submit a CD, containing the telecast of the apology, within one week to the broadcasting authority. At the same time, Times Now have been directed to remove the ‘defamatory’ video links, on its website or YouTube within 7 days and confirm the same to NBSA.

Sanjukta Basu credits Rahul Gandhi for the ‘victory’

Sanjukta Basu has credited senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for her victory. She claimed that the ‘fight’ with Times Now started when she met Rahul Gandhi and hence that is how ‘historic’ it is.

She was thrilled that even after Times Now called her a ‘Hindu hater’, Rahul Gandhi, instead of being embarrassed about meeting her, had followed her back on Twitter.

Sanjukta Basu had claimed Pulwama was an inside job

Within hours of the ghastly Pulwama terror attack, Basu had taken to social media to wonder whether the Pakistan-sponsored attack on CRPF jawans was actually an ‘inside job’ by India. Without naming anyone, she had insinuated whether the attack was carried out on instructions of the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi follows Sanjukta Basu

Last year, within weeks of losing the 2019 general election, Rahul Gandhi had followed back a much elated Sanjukta Basu. Rahul Gandhi’s follow came just days after Sanjukta had announced on social media that only her and Rahul Gandhi’s voices ‘somewhat matter’ on the micro-blogging platform.

Without naming anyone she had announced on Twitter how only two people “whose voices somewhat matter here” dared not to care about the Chandrayaan 2 launch. After all, why should a space technology advancement matter to the only two people whose voices ‘somewhat matter’ on Twitter.

Sanjukta had added how these two people are the only ones who are “pained and worried about the future of the nation.” She had added how one of these two people was herself and asked her followers to guess the other person.

A day later, when no one guessed the other person’s name, she announced that the only other person on Twitter ‘who works from his heart’ is the former Congress President. Sanjukta added how Rahul Gandhi tweeted about Sheila Dikshit’s passing and Trump’s statement on Kashmir, which was categorically denied by India, but not on Chandrayaan 2.

In fact, Rahul Gandhi’s resignation had even made her cry.

She was so heartbroken that she had bid goodbye to the nation she was born in. She, however, continues to live in India.

Pakistan: Hindu temple vandalised during Navratri, idol of Hinglaj Mata broken by miscreants in Sindh

In a disturbing case, a Hindu temple was vandalised in Nagarparkar in Sindh province of Pakistan.

As per reports, the incident took place on Friday after the minority Hindu community in the area offered prayers for Navratri. The unidentified miscreants damaged the head of the idol of Hinglaj Mata, besides smashing the face of Her Vaahan (carrier). Pakistani Journalist Naila Inayat confirmed the disturbing story on Twitter.

Sindh police and government assures justice

While taking cognisance of the despicable incident, the Sindh police have assured that they would nab the miscreants soon for vandalising the Hindu temple. “We have leads on the incident and will soon be arresting the culprits,” the police stated.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Sindh CM, Poonjo Bheel, said that such incidents are a threat to the very notion of ‘co-existence.’ He tweeted, “Sad to learn about the vandalizing the temple in Tharparkar’s Nagarparkar tehsil. Have spoken to SSP to inquire into the matter instantly as the Tharparkar is the land of love, peace and harmony where such acts will (damage) exemplary coexistence.”

Pakistani activist shares concern about police inaction

However, Hindu Pakistani activist Kapil Dev has expressed concerns about the inaction of the police in such cases in the past.

He emphasised, “We know the police will arrest the culprit & inquiry will prove “the man doesn’t have stable mental condition.” This is not the first case, same story repeats.”

Radical Islamists destroyed temple wall in Islamabad

Earlier, the Islamabad Hindu panchayat informed that it would halt the construction of a new Sri Krishna temple in the city after a mob of radical extremists razed the boundary wall of the temple to the ground. In a viral video uploaded by a Twitter handle (@PakHindus), a radical extremist can be seen dismantling the temporary boundary wall and speaking to the camera in an agitated manner.

The hardline-radical Islamists in Pakistan had earlier opposed the construction of Hindu temple in Pakistan claiming that it was contrary to the idea of Pakistan, which is Islam. A group of Islamic leaders had attacked the Imran Khan government for granting funds to the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad, who termed it as against Pakistan’s ideology.
