Mahesh Langa took over ₹28 lakhs from businessman for wife’s birthday party and new office, intimidated him in name of political influence- Details of the 3rd FIR

The Ahmedabad crime branch has registered another First Information Report (FIR) against The Hindu ‘journalist’ Mahesh Langa on 29th October. He is accused of cheating a businessman out of Rs 28 lakhs. The police booked him based on a complaint by an Ahmedabad-based businessman who runs an advertising company. Langa is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail after his bail was denied in a GST (Goods and Services Tax) fraud case. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad police have initiated a probe into the latest case. He is now the subject of three FIRs, two of which are filed by Ahmedabad police and one by Gandhinagar police.

The police have booked him under sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). OpIndia has a copy of the FIR. According to the complaint, the businessman has years of experience in advertising and frequently places ads in publications. He met Langa in a cafe a few months back who befriended him by claiming to be acquainted with powerful individuals. The latter added that he has great political influence and also contacts in many newspapers. He also promised the complainant to print positive news about his company and customers in the newspapers. The two then developed a friendship and started to communicate via phone.

The FIR further unveiled that Langa called the complainant a while back to inform him about a business named “DA Enterprises” that was founded in the name of his wife and brother. He also mentioned that he was trying to get an office for another business called “Nisarg Enterprises.” He then informed him that he had seen an office close to Bodakdev and wanted to purchase it. Langa told the complainant that he must pay by check to buy the property and he can transfer the funds to his wife’s account provided the latter issues him with a bank entry from another business. He also offered cash in return. The complainant trusted him and transferred Rs 9,90,000 from his company’s account to another friend’s company account on 16th March which was later deposited to Langa’s account.

On 6th June the complainant sent Rs 12,87,000 to Langa’s account in the same manner who told him that he had bought an office where he is working for “Nisarg Enterprise” but he never brought up the matter of returning the money. He initially claimed to have cash and assured to pay him but didn’t act on his words. Two months after embezzling the money for the office, in the first week of September, Langa told the complainant that his wife Kavita Langa’s birthday was on 27th September and he needed a banquet hall to throw a party for friends. He then asked him to look for a place. The latter again helped him and found two to three halls out of which he chose the ‘Jade’ banquet hall.

Langa even directed him to shell out funds for the place and its decoration among other things. He again declared that he would give the amount in cash to the complainant on the birthday. The latter trusted him yet again and spent Rs 5,18,250 on the hall and Rs 50,000 on decorations. However, Langa did not give him any money on the birthday. The complainant sought reimbursement of the entire money totalling Rs 28,68,250, a few days after the occurrence. However, Langa threatened to spoil the reputation of the companies of his clients by doing negative coverage of them in the media. He added that he would destroy the complainant’s business by using his political network if he went to the cops to file a complaint against him.

The complainant disclosed to OpIndia that Langa had intimidated him, purporting to have great political influence and ties to high-ranking people. He claimed to share good relationship with journalists and newspapers. Therefore, releasing unfavourable news about his clients will result in significant losses. He expressed that he became afraid and stopped asking for money after Langa threatened him. However, the ‘journalist’ was caught by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch within a few days of the incident and he chose to approach the police after learning that Rs 20 lakh in cash had been recovered at his home. “Mahesh had the cash. He could have given it to me if he wanted. But I did not get the money. So this is a case of betrayal and fraud. Then we decided to lodge an FIR,” he explained.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has opened an inquiry and filed a formal complaint against Langa in response to his complaint. A GST fraud case has already been launched against him. Although Langa’s name was not there in it initially, his role came to light during the investigation. Later, an FIR was registered in Gandhinagar in connection with the leak of some documents related to the Gujarat Maritime Board. However, the police have not yet arrested him in the other two cases.

US elections: Ballot boxes burned in Oregon and Washington, police recover note reading “Free Gaza”

0

In a shocking turn of events, two ballot drop boxes in Washington and Oregon, in the United States, were set on fire in suspected arson instances early Monday morning (local time), and elections officials at one site said they believed hundreds of ballots had been lost. The ballots may have been burned by anti-Israel activists, as the police discovered an “ALL DROP BOXES WILL BURN. FREE GAZA” note implying the involvement of anti-Israel protestors in the incident.

On Monday, fires created by incendiary devices were discovered in ballot boxes in Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. While the majority of the fires were extinguished at the Portland location by a built-in fire suppressor, hundreds of ballots were burned at the drop box at Fisher’s Landing Transit Centre in Vancouver. A similar incident was reported earlier this month in Vancouver and now the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says that the recent ballot-burning incidents may have a link with the arson attack earlier this month.

However, just a few hours after the fires were out, an election official told the NYPost that a letter in a ballot box at the Vancouver Mall Parking lot location was found. The official reportedly stated that a white piece of paper folded in half had been placed in the box. It is unclear whether the statement came from the person involved in the arson fires, but sources indicate that the slogan “Free Gaza” was inscribed on all three incendiary devices.

According to Mike Benner, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau, investigators believe the two incidents are connected and have identified a “suspect vehicle” from surveillance footage. The Federal Bureau of Investigation stated that it was investigating both incidents “to determine who is responsible.”

Portland election authorities stated that the fire triggered canisters inside the ballot box, which discharged a powdered fire suppressant, preserving nearly all of the ballots. NYT reported. The Multnomah County Elections Division said it would contact each voter affected by the damage to guarantee they received a replacement ballot. In addition, the department asked citizens to call 911 if they saw any unusual activity near a ballot box.

As PM Modi slams Delhi & West Bengal for not implementing Ayushman Bharat, data shows other opposition ruled states are among top beneficiaries of the scheme

On 29th October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi blasted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) governments of Delhi and West Bengal for failing to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) his administration’s ambitious health insurance policy. He called it a “political decision” that prevents the elderly in these states from receiving free care under the program.

Noting that senior folks in Delhi and West Bengal who are 70 years of age or older were excluded because of “political hurdles,” the prime minister expressed regret and added that the administrations are “selfish” and “not concerned with humanity.”

“I apologise to the people over 70 years from Delhi and West Bengal that I will not be able to serve you. I apologise because I will come to know that you are suffering. I will get the information but I will not be able to help you. The reason is that the Delhi and West Bengal governments are not joining the Ayushman Bharat scheme. I am prevented from serving older people of Delhi and West Bengal because of politics, the Delhi that I am speaking from, I am pained,” he conveyed during his address on the occasion of Dhanvantri Jayanti.

Odisha, the third state to opt out of the program, is currently discussing its implementation with the centre. Bharatiya Janata Party recently overthrew the former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal’s decades-long dominance and established a government there. PM Modi gave the “Ayushman Vyay Card” to four recipients as a symbolic gesture to introduce the expanded Ayushman Bharat insurance program. He also extended his government’s flagship health insurance initiative to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. All recipients over 70, including those who are currently enrolled in the program based on their financial situation, will receive the card.

His charge that politics had impeded welfare is supported by empirical data. Six years after the program’s launch, it is evident that states ruled by the opposition have used a sizable portion of the monies allotted. According to the latest data, 35,66,97,524 Ayushman cases have been created and 6,86,17,508 hospitalizations have taken place under the scheme till now. The government has already spent a total of Rs 79,227 crore till 15th January of this year, reported The Indian Express.

The highest number of Ayushman Cards are created in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Bihar whereas the greatest numbers of authorised hospital admissions were recorded in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Rajasthan. The most numbers of empanelled hospitals were found in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and then Gujarat.

Seven states that are ruled by the opposition including Karnataka, Kerala, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu accounted for 45% of these hospitalizations. Furthermore, these states received 33% of the treatment reimbursements, demonstrating the program’s significant influence across political parties.

Three primary themes have emerged from PM Modi’s many allusions to Ayushman Bharat, demonstrating how it has created a safety net for marginalized groups across political boundaries. The program’s primary goal is to drastically lower low-income households’ out-of-pocket costs. Second, it provides access to emergency care and necessary medical treatments that many families previously couldn’t afford. Third, its effects are especially evident in marginalized communities.

PM Modi emphasized that the program is essential to building trust even while the state is ultimately in charge of health, this initiative has solidified the central government as a major force in providing free healthcare access across state lines. The program is offering vital financial assistance to families who would otherwise find it difficult to pay for specialized care, especially for chronic or life-threatening ailments, according to data from seven states with the rule.

For instance, general surgery, pediatric medicine, and general medicine were the most financially supported specialities in Tamil Nadu. While Kerala concentrated its expenditures on cardiology, general medicine, and orthopaedics, Karnataka allocated the majority of cash to cardiology, cardio-thoracic & vascular surgery, and neurosurgery. In the northern states, orthopaedics, general surgery, and cardiology received the majority of funding in Punjab. While Jharkhand focused its expenditures on ophthalmology, general surgery, and general medicine, Himachal Pradesh spent most of its money on cardiology, general surgery, and general medicine.

Regional differences in healthcare demands are also highlighted by spending trends. For example, orthopaedics and ophthalmology are given priority in northern regions like Punjab and Jharkhand, whereas cardiac and neuro-related treatments are highly sought after in southern states like Karnataka and Kerala. This illustrates how adaptable the plan is to the healthcare needs of different regions.

Uttarakhand: Minor girl goes missing in Tehri Garhwal, family accuses barber Salman of molesting and forcing her to convert to Islam, angry locals vandalise his shop

0

On Tuesday (29th October), tensions rose in Kirti Nagar town in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand after a group of Hindu rights activists allegedly ravaged a shop belonging to a Muslim man after a minor Hindu girl went missing from her residence. It is alleged that the girl was molested and was being pressured to convert to Islam by a barber named Salman.

The outrage erupted hours after the 16-year-old missing girl’s parents lodged a complaint on Monday (28th October) against accused Salman, who works as a barber. The complaint filed by the girl’s family said that Salman had allegedly molested the minor girl and was forcing her to convert to Islam.

As the news of the minor girl’s disappearance circulated, several Hindu organisations staged a demonstration in the town and allegedly ransacked two Muslim-owned shops, including the one belonging to accused Salman.

Enraged locals termed it ‘love jihad’ and vandalised Salman’s barber shop on Tuesday. They also vandalised the shop of another man suspected of being involved in the matter and damaged hoardings of some shops owned by Muslims in the area. They also protested in the Kirtinagar market area, demanding that the teenager be found and action taken against those responsible for her disappearance.

Accused Salman is absconding, and the minor girl is also still missing. A case has been filed against Salman under the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act and the POCSO Act.

Speaking about the matter, Tehri Garhwal senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ayush Agarwal said, “The family of the girl on Monday gave a complaint to the police that the barber molested their daughter and forced her to convert to Islam. We registered an FIR on their complaint the same evening. The girl, meanwhile, disappeared from her house around 11 pm. We have registered an FIR (against unidentified people) for her disappearance as well.”

The officer added that searches are being conducted to find the missing girl and the police are also investigating if more people are involved in the crime. The police, he said, are also analysing the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, Devraj Sharma, station house officer, at Kirti Nagar police station said, “We are checking CCTV footage from near the shops. We will take action accordingly.” He added, “A case has been registered against the accused youth under POCSO and other relevant sections for allegedly pressuring a minor girl for religious conversion, based on the complaint filed by the girl’s mother.”

Tehri’s Additional Superintendent of Police J R Joshi has informed that a case has been filed against Salman, a resident of Najibabad in Bijnor district, under the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act and the POCSO Act. “We received information regarding the missing of a minor girl. Separate teams were formed to search for the girl… A case has been registered and a search for the girl is going on… We are collecting the evidence, and whatever comes up, action will be taken in that regard…” ASP Joshi said.

The BJP’s Pauri-Garhwal district vice-president Lakhpat Singh Bhandari has raised questions over the police’s conduct in the matter and said, “They first allowed the barber to leave the town. Now the girl is missing since last night. Had the police performed their duties, this would have never happened. We have given an ultimatum to the police to search the girl by evening (Tuesday) or else we will hold a protest.”

UP: Amjad and 4 others assaulted minor Hindu Girls in Saharanpur; Dalit youth who tried to rescue them abused with casteist slurs, thrashed

A case of molestation of minor Hindu girl students has come to light in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The schoolgirls were dragged to a man Bablu Qureshi’s shop and were assaulted when they protested. A knife was put on their neck. A Dalit youth who went to save them was also attacked. The incident transpired on 26th October. People from the Hindu community gathered near the police station and demonstrated as soon as they learned of the incident.

A young Muslim man named Amjad was arrested on 28th October while the authorities have been searching for the other perpetrators who are absconding. Cops are conducting raids to nab them.

This incident occurred in the Nakur police station area of Saharanpur. The father of a 16-year-old girl filed a complaint and informed her that she was returning from coaching after studying tuition with her four friends at 5:35 pm on 26th October. All of them are underage. Five people were seated in Bablu Qureshi’s shuttering shop, which is on the way, and his son Amjad was also one of them.

According to the father, the culprits pulled two of the five girls inside the shop by grabbing their hands and hair. They also thrashed the duo and stated, “I have been telling you for so many days to give your mobile number, but you are not understanding.” One of them even held a knife to the neck of the complainant’s daughter. They also made obscene gestures to the girls and threatened, “No one will be able to save you today.” The scared girls started to shout and their three friends, who were standing outside the store requested the passersby for assistance.

A young man Rajkumar Valmiki was walking past the location when he heard the desperate pleas and stormed inside the shop to rescue the victims. He asked the offenders to leave the girls, however, they attacked him with casteist slurs and declared, “Saale, bh**gi (sweeper) run away from here.” Two of them even began to beat him with iron rods and sticks. Some villagers arrived there after hearing the commotion and upon entering the store, they witnessed that the accused were assaulting the girls and the Dalit man.

The five accused fled when they saw the throng approaching. One of them left his Hero Honda Passion on the spot as they were escaping. Some Muslim women, meanwhile, threw stones at the assembling Hindus from their rooftops in an attempt to protect the assailants. The cops arrived at the scene immediately after gaining information about the occurrence and somehow managed the situation. The girl’s father has demanded strict action against the five men. OpIndia has a copy of the complaint. The girls are reportedly between 15 and 16 years old. Members of the Hindu community gathered at the police station in protest of the instance and also asked for strict action against the accused. The police then registered a case and started searching for them.

Relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the POCSO (Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences) Act have been invoked against them. The cops, who were persistent in their raids, eventually succeeded and captured Amjad. Efforts are now underway to identify other offenders with the help of the evidence and apprehend them.

Third FIR registered against jailed journalist Mahesh Langa in Ahmedabad, now charged with defrauding businessman of Rs 28 lakh

0

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday, 29th October, escalated actions in a major GST scam investigation, conducting raids across several cities in Gujarat. Several persons have been detained in this case, including Mahesh Langa, a journalist affiliated with the left-leaning publication The Hindu. Langa faces multiple allegations, and a new FIR has been filed in his name, bringing the total number of cases against him to three.

This third FIR has been lodged by Pranav Shah, director of an advertising company named Khushi Enterprises, who claims that Langa defrauded him of ₹28 lakh, allegedly failing to return funds provided for specific work. The FIR was filed on Tuesday in Ahmedabad.

According to Pranav Shah, he transferred ₹23 lakh to Langa for advertisement work, and had paid around ₹5 lakh for a party hosted by Langa in September. The ₹23 lakh was paid by Shah through a friend’s company in March and Jun to purchase an office. Then in September, Shah organised a birthday party for Langa’s wife for ₹5,68,250. The journalist had assured that he will repay the entire amount. As per police, Shah has provided substantive evidence of giving the amounts to Langa, including bank transaction records.

During a raid on Langa’s residence, authorities reportedly seized Rs 20 lakh in cash, for which Langa could not provide a satisfactory explanation.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik addressed the media on Tuesday, October 29th, stating that a technical analysis of prior FIRs had been conducted, revealing connections to 12 other companies along with Dhruvi Enterprises. Malik also mentioned that Langa admitted in court that DA Enterprises belonged to him. To date, 17 individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. Despite showing a modest income in his IT returns, authorities noted Langa’s lifestyle appeared notably luxurious.

Ahmedabad Police said that Langa maintained his persona as an investigative journalist and allegedly used it to access govt offices and personnel. He introduced himself as a financial broker, land dealer, and lobbyist to his targets.

The first FIR against Langa pertains to the GST scam, while the second was filed by Gandhinagar police, which alleges that he exploited his position as a journalist to leak government documents. The second case is related to the Gujarat Maritime Board and it is a sensitive case due to national security concerns linked with it. The recent third FIR addresses the Rs 28 lakh fraud accusation, adding another accusation to the complex case against him.

The Hindu has defended Langa for obtaining sensitive defence documents, claiming they were obtained as part of his work as a journalist.

Canada: Trudeau’s minister testifies with same old claims against India, admits to leaking sensitive intelligence to WaPo ahead of meeting with NSA Doval

On Tuesday, 29th October, Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison testified against India as he appeared before the Public Safety and National Security Committee. He leveled the baseless claims once again that senior Indian officials, including India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, authorised attacks on pro-Khalistani elements on Canadian soil. Morrison testified that he leaked intelligence and sensitive information against India to the Washington Post.

Notably, Warrison briefed WaPo days before the meeting with NSA Ajit Doval in Singapore to target audience in the US, UK, and India.

Morrison’s testimony before the committee came days after allegations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Canadian officials, claiming that Indian officials, including HM Shah, were involved in criminal activities in Canada ranging from intimidation to murder.

The committee hearing was led by Conservative MP Raquel Dancho, the party’s public safety critic. Dancho pressed Morrison on the information he and Canada’s National Security Adviser, Nathalie Drouin, shared with The Washington Post, where they identified HM Shah as a key official behind the alleged criminal activities on Canadian soil against pro-Khalistani elements. In response, Morrison confirmed that he named HM Shah in conversation with The Washington Post’s representative. He said, “The journalists called me and asked if it was that person. I confirmed it was that person.”

Escalating tensions and diplomatic expulsions

Notably, diplomatic relations between India and Canada have soured since Canada accused India of killing Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was murdered in June 2023, without any evidence. Recently, Canada’s RCMP accused Indian diplomats, officials, and a high-ranking minister in the Government of India of orchestrating attacks on pro-Khalistani elements and gathering intelligence about them. Following the allegations, India refuted the claims and recalled six high-level diplomats named by Canada as being behind the attacks, as Canada to waive off their diplomatic immunity so that law enforcement agencies could question them.

While India had already announced it would recall the top six diplomats, including the High Commissioner of India to Canada, Sanjay Verma, Canada went ahead and claimed to have expelled the diplomats. India promptly responded by expelling Canadian diplomats and instructing them to leave the country within three days. As Canadian Deputy Minister has testified he levelled allegations against Home Minister of India while speaking to WaPo, it will further escalate the tensions between the two countries.

Sikhs for Justice piggy-backed Canada to accuse India of attacking Khalistani elements

The Khalistani terrorist organisation, which poses as an advocacy group, Sikhs for Justice, responded to the allegations and demanded that HM Shah face prosecution. Designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, who is the founder of SFJ and frequently issues threats against India, said, “Amit Shah has weaponised India’s security agencies to hunt down and eliminate pro-Khalistan activists, even beyond India’s borders.” He added that the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar was not isolated but rather a reflection of broader policies allegedly executed under Shah’s directive.

India refutes allegations of involvement in criminal activities on Canadian soil

India has categorically denied the assertions made by Morrison, stating that neither the country nor its agents, diplomats, or any official is involved in any form of criminal activities targeting pro-Khalistani elements residing in Canada. India has labelled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations as politically motivated and questioned his agenda in heightening diplomatic friction between the two nations.

Anti-Hindu ‘Hindus For Human Rights’, with ties to Islamists, calls on London’s Mayor to ‘cut off all ties’ with Hindu institutions that helped organise Diwali event

On October 29, Rajiv Sinha, the director of the anti-Hindu and anti-India US-based organisation Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) wrote to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to ‘cut off all ties’ with Hindu institutions like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), BAPS and Chinmaya Mission.

The anti-Hindu organisation HfHR, which has a history of siding with anti-India elements and terrorist organisations, was miffed since these Hindu institutions had participated in organising the Diwali festival at London’s Trafalgar Square on October 27.

In a letter to the Mayor of London, which was shared on X by popular user @SuhagAShukla, Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) expressed “dismay” that the coalition of these Hindu institutions helped in organising the Mayor of London’s recent Diwali event.

Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) urged the Mayor of London to sever ties with these Hindu organizations and seek new partners to lead future Diwali celebrations. HfHR claimed that these Hindu groups “perform a whitewashing or supportive function for the Hindutva movement in India and the UK.”

Hindus for Human Rights and its history of being anti-Hindu, anti-India

For someone unfamiliar with the organisation Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), the name might suggest it is a Hindu organisation working for the welfare of the Hindu community. In reality, it is no less than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The organisation has been at the forefront of pushing anti-Hindu narratives in the US and UK. It has consistently positioned itself as a defender of human rights while pursuing a darker agenda. The organisation is funded by the likes of the Tides Foundation, an entity linked to funding pro-Hamas rallies on US university campuses. HfHR’s advocacy efforts often align with those of separatist and extremist groups hostile to Hindu interests.

The Tides Foundation itself has been implicated in numerous activities that go beyond mere political advocacy. As documented in OpIndia’s dossier on Wikipedia, Tides is involved in financing several anti-India and anti-Hindu organisations, pushing narratives that distort India’s human rights record and defame Hindu cultural symbols and practices. Their funding of pro-Hamas rallies in US universities further highlights the dubious nature of their agenda. That HfHR receives financial backing from such a source is a clear sign of the broader anti-Hindu nexus being formed in the name of ‘human rights.’ It must be noted that HfHR is not just another benign human rights group. It is part of a coordinated effort to delegitimise Hindu voices in the global diaspora.

Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) which is an open anti-Hindu and anti-India organisation based out of the US. The organisation presents itself as a defender of human rights. However, its blatant anti-Hindu narrative has been exposed several times. HfHR often uses Hindu symbols and teachings to push its narrative. HfHR does not take a breath before criticising Hindu practices and beliefs. Their selective outrage and twisted interpretations of Hindu text, as she did here, suggest that their primary goal is not to protect human rights but to erode Hindu identity from the face of the earth by smearing it with false narratives.

HfHR was formed in the year 2019 by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) and the Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI). Interestingly, the three organisations had formed another outfit called the Alliance for Justice and Accountability (AJA). As per an article in The Hindu, the Alliance for Justice and Accountability had been at the forefront of leading demonstrations against the visit of PM Modi to Houston on September 22, 2019. Sunita Vishwanath, the co-founder of ‘Hindus for Human Rights’ had also tried to create hysteria and panic among Indian Muslims about the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in 2019.

In 2021, ‘Hindus for Human Rights’ also endorsed the anti-Hindu event ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ conference. It also came up with a “special toolkit” to propagate against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his State visit to the US in June 2023.

In June last year, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi was seen sitting alongside Sunita Vishwanath during an event hosted by the Hudson Institute. In October 2023, the X (formerly Twitter) account of HfHR was withheld in India in response to a legal demand.

Maharashtra: MLA Geeta Jain dismayed at not getting BJP ticket from Mira Bhayandar, says will contest as independent

Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Geeta Jain, expressed her displeasure over not being given a ticket from the Mira Bhayandar constituency, and announced that she would again contest the elections as an ‘independent’ candidate’.

Notably, Jain is the sitting independent MLA from the seat, but BJP announced Narendra Mehta as the candidate for the seat for the upcoming assembly polls.

She further claimed that she was promised a ticket by BJP leadership but was ultimately denied one at the last moment.

Speaking to ANI, Geeta Jain said, “Everyone knows that till last night, my name was doing rounds, and every senior right from Delhi to Mumbai had promised me of candidature from this seat. This decision is very unfortunate. The reason behind this decision should be asked to all the party seniors.”

The incumbent Independent MLA also questioned the party leaders why the party ticket was being given to someone who had “multiple criminal cases” registered against him.

“I want to ask all the party leaders, why are they trying to play with the image of the party by giving a ticket to people with so many FIRs and proven corruption charges? Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called me up and said there were some compulsions due to which they could not give me the ticket,” stated Jain.

BJP had fielded Narendra Mehta from the Mira Bhayander seat in the 2019 assembly polls as well, after which Jain rebelled and contested as an independent candidate. She won the contest by around 15,000 votes.

Jain has also served as BJP’s Mayor from Mira Bhayander in the past.

However, after the polls, Jain pledged her support to the Mahayuti alliance.

The assembly polls for the 288 seats are scheduled on November 20. The counting of votes will be done on November 23.

Meanwhile, both the ruling Mahayuti alliance as well the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are gearing up and leaving no stone unturned for the assembly polls.

Mahayuti is the alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). While, MVA is the coalition of Shiv Sena (UBT) (Uddhav Thackeray faction), NCP (SCP) (Sharad Pawar faction) and the Congress party.

The Model Code of Conduct for the Maharashtra Assembly Election came into force on October 15, 2024.

The notification for the election was issued on October 22. Tuesday was the last date for filing nomination papers.

These application forms will be scrutinized today. Also, the nomination papers can be withdrawn on 4 November 2024.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, and the Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP secured 122 seats, the Shiv Sena 63, and the Congress 42.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with counting for all 288 constituencies set for November 23.

Bangladesh: Muslim mob carries out vandalism, wanted to lynch Hindu boy by accusing him of committing ‘blasphemy’

On Monday (28th Oct), a frenzied Muslim mob laid siege to the Kadirdi Degree College in Boalmari in the Faridpur district of Bangladesh after accusing a Hindu boy of ‘insulting’ Prophet Muhammad.

As per reports, the victim was identified as Hridoy Pal. He is a student of Class XI. A mob comprising of madrassa students gathered outside the Kadirdi Degree College and demanded that the administration hand the victim over to them.

They accused the Hindu student of committing ‘blasphemy’ through a Facebook post. Hridoy Pal was called into the principal’s cabin and interrogated. The victim informed the college authorities that he did not own a mobile phone.

He further stated that the alleged ‘blasphemous’ Facebook post was published from an ID, which was hacked 2 years ago. The frenzied Muslim mob ghearoed the principal’s office, and vandalised motorcycles and school property.

On learning about the matter, the Officer-in-charge of Boalmari police station reached the spot. Local political leaders also rushed to the scene that pacify the radical Muslims.

Later, the army was called in to prevent any untoward situation. They took the Hindu boy into their custody. A video of a blindfolded Hridoy Pal being carried on all fours by army officials has surfaced on social media.

In the footage, Muslims could be seen slapping the victim and encouraging others to assault him. One army official was seen hitting the Hindu boy with a stick.

Reportedly, the violent mob attacked the army personnel with stones and shoes while they took Hridoy Pal to the army camp.

Attack on Hindus over ‘blasphemy’

OpIndia had reported in September this year how a Hindu boy named Utsab Mandal was almost lynched by a Muslim mob on accusations of ‘blasphemy’ in the Sonadanga residential area of Khulna city.

Later that month, another frenzied Muslim mob laid siege to the Patiya police station in Chittagong district of Bangladesh, demanding that the cops hand over a Hindu boy accused of ‘insulting’ Prophet Muhammad.

The mob, comprising mostly local madrassa students, also attacked an army vehicle after seeing a young boy in civilian clothes and mistaking him for the Hindu victim. An army official was injured in the onslaught.

A 22-year-old Hindu youth named Partha Biswas Pintu was arrested on charges of committing ‘blasphemy’.
