Retrieving ‘Wagh Nakh’ from London an “Insult”, Shiv Sena is real ‘Wagh Nakh’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: Sanjay Raut

On Sunday (1 October), Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed that there was no use in bringing back Wagh Nakh from London. Wagh Nakh is a tiger claw-shaped weapon of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which he had famously used to kill Bijapur sultan Afzal Khan in 1659. Raut lamented that it was an insult to the Wagh Nakh which has been the pride of Maharashtra. Going ahead, he claimed that Shiv Sena is the real Wagh Nakh of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Regarding the government’s efforts to bring back ‘Wagh Nakh’ from London’s Museum, he lamented, “What will you do by bringing the weapon which was used to protect the self-respect and integrity of Maharashtra? You have made the state a slave of Delhi.”

Apparently, he made these references alleging that the BJP has weakened the Sena by “splitting” it and was also targeting the state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

“It is an insult to the Wagh Nakh, which is the pride and matter of self-respect for Maharashtra. Shiv Sena is the real Wagh Nakh of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which (the party) has fought all obstacles coming in the way of the state,” Raut boasted.

Addressing a press meeting at Junnar in Pune district, Sharad Pawar argued that there was no need to create controversy over the Wagh Nakh. Regarding this development, he said, “I don’t have any knowledge of it. However, Indrajit Sawant is an expert in Marathi language history. I saw on TV that he has a different opinion about the tiger claws of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Anyway, I don’t really know about it. Also, I don’t think there should be a controversy about it.” Shivneri Fort where Raja Shivaji was born is located in this Junnar taluka.

Notably, on 10th November 1659, the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj thrust his tiger claws (Wagh Nakh) into the body of Bijapur sultan Afzal Khan killing the tyrant once and for all. The weapon, which was in the possession of Shivaji Maharaja’s descendants in the Satara court, was given to an East India Company officer James Grant Duff. After his service, Duff took the tiger claws to Britain, and the weapon was further donated by his descendants to the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Now, efforts are being made to retrieve it to its homeland. Maharashtra Culture Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and other government officials are scheduled to go to the United Kingdom on 3 October to get the revered weapon back. During the UK visit, on behalf of the Maharashtra government, he will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Victoria and Albert Museum for the return of the heritage weapon. The ‘Wagh Nakh’ is on display in the same museum.’

Regarding this development, a spokesperson of the museum said, “The story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s triumph over Afzal Khan is legendary, so we are delighted that the ‘Tiger Claws’ will return to India as part of the 350th anniversary events where they can be enjoyed as part of the celebrations. We hope that their display might also enable new research into their history and look forward to working in partnership with colleagues in the months ahead as we develop plans for their display.”

Haroon poses as Rohit to trap Hindu woman, threatens with obscene video and forces to convert to Islam: FIR registered in Meerut

On 1st October, a new case of grooming jihad came to light in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. A Muslim man identified as Haroon posed as Rohit and lured a woman into a relationship. Later, he threatened her with obscene video and forced her to convert to Islam.

As per reports, the victim received a call from the wrong number. The caller identified himself as Rohit from the Medical Police Station area. They started talking to each other frequently. Soon, they began meeting, and the woman fell in love with Haroon.

Lohia Nagar Police has registered an FIR based on the victim’s complaint. In her complaint, the woman alleged that on 27th November 2021, Haroon tricked her into going to a hotel room with him, where he established physical relations with her.

In September 2023, she was in Allahabad for some legal work, where Haroon again forced her into a physical relationship on the pretext of marriage. Meanwhile, she learned that his real name was Haroon Gazi, and he lived in the Khardaura Police Station area of Meerut.

She further found out that Haroon was already married. The victim said in her complaint that Haroon made obscene videos of her and threatened her that he would make the video viral. He forced her to convert to Islam.

Meerut’s Superintendent of Police (SP) (City) Piyush Singh said in a statement that an FIR had been registered based on the victim’s complaint. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

OpIndia tried contacting the concerned police station but could not connect.

Tara Shahdeo case: 3 including husband Rakib-ul Hasan, who posed as Hindu, convicted for atrocities and efforts to convert the national-level shooter to Islam

On 30 September a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court convicted all three principal accused in the Tara Sahadeo conversion case, including her ex-husband Rakib-ul Hasan and her mother-in-law Kaushar Rani and Mustaque Ahmad. The verdict was pronounced in relation to the case filed for engaging in multiple atrocities against the national-level shooter and attempting to convert her to Islam against her will.

The court of special CBI judge Prabhat Kumar Sharma scheduled the sentencing of the perpetrators for 5 October and the trio was sent to the Birsa Munda Central Jail. Rakib-ul Hasan was found guilty under sections 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 376 (2) (n) (physical relation on the promise of marriage), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 298 (wounding religious sentiments), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 496 (fraudulent marriage ceremony) of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim accused that she had wed Ranjit Kohli alias Rakib-ul Hasan on 7 July 2014, in accordance with Hindu customs, however, on the second day of their union he and Mustaque Ahmad who served as registrar of vigilance at the time began pressuring her to become a Muslim and do Nikaah (Islamic marriage).

The inquiry was taken over by the CBI in 2015 after a Jharkhand High Court order and a case was filed in Delhi. A Ranchi family court granted her a divorce on 26 June 2018 on the grounds of cruelty. She submitted a complaint to the court asserting that her spouse had misrepresented his faith and duped her into getting married. She had also charged him for torturing her for refusing to embrace Islam.

On 19 August 2014, the victim filed a complaint against Rakib-ul Hasan and his mother with the Hindpidhi police station under sections 498A (subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or his family for property) and 34 (committing any criminal act involving two or more persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code after she discovered that her husband was actually a Muslim.

Mustaque Ahmad’s name was mentioned for conspiring with the two to torment and force her to convert under duress. He was the former registrar (vigilance) of the Jharkhand High Court.

“Rakib convinced Tara to marry him by pretending to be a Hindu. After the solemnization of the marriage, he tried to forcibly convert her for a nikah ceremony. When she refused, Tara was confined to her home and subjected to atrocities for several days. The police eventually rescued her,” revealed her attorney who assisted the national agency in the case.

Kaushar Rani was convicted under Indian Penal Code sections 120(B) (whoever is a party to a criminal conspiracy to commit an offence punishable with death or rigorous punishment), 298 (uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 506 (imprisonment for criminal intimidation) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt). She had threatened, “Either change your religion, or partners in your bed will keep changing.”

Mustaque Ahmad was found guilty under sections 120(B) and 298 of the Indian Penal Code for facilitating Rakib and Tara’s meeting before their marriage and afterwards bringing a maulvi for the alleged nikah.

“I had full faith in the judiciary. I have got justice after a wait of nine years. Those who harmed me have been convicted. I thank all those who cooperated with me,” the national shooter expressed while talking to the reporters. The CBI recorded her statement under section 164 (authorises the Magistrate to record the statement of a person or his confession) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The prosecution presented up to 26 witnesses in court, and their cross-examination lasted for more than seven months.

Tara Shahdeo was sternly warned not to apply sindoor or else her hands would be broken. Multiple Muslim clerics were called to convert her. She suffered severe beatings when she refused. She was threatened with the murder of not just herself but even her family members if she disclosed the torture she was enduring to anyone. The culprits also made dowry demands from her.

Her oppression continued for a month before she decided to break free. There were cigarette marks on her body and she was hospitalised after she was saved. Rakib-ul Hasan confessed to physically assaulting her but denied compelling her to change her religion.

Woman killed, husband critical after Kannada actor Nagabhushana’s car rams into them

On Saturday, September 30, Kannada actor Nagabhushana allegedly hit a couple with his car in Bengaluru. While the woman died, her husband is undergoing treatment. The actor was arrested following the incident, however, was later granted bail. The accident took place when actor Nagabhushana was heading towards Konanakunte from Uttarahalli on Saturday night.

The incident unfolded on Vasanthpura main road in Bengaluru on Saturday night at 9:45 PM. The victim couple is identified as Krishna (58), and his wife Prema (48). They were walking on the footpath along the road when Nagabhushana’s car hit the couple before colliding with an electric pole. While Prema died on the way to the hospital, her husband Krishna is critical and undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He has sustained injuries on his head, both the legs and abdomen.

The actor Nagabhushana was arrested by the Kumaraswamy Layout traffic police in addition, his car was also seized by the police. An IndiaToday report, however, stated that the actor was granted bail.

On the complaint lodged by the deceased victim’s son Partha, the police registered a case against the accused actor under relevant sections. The police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.

In his complaint submitted to the police, Partha said, “I work at a company and my parents stay with me. On September 30th, at about 10 PM, I was on Kanakapura Road when I received a phone call from someone who stayed in my flat. He told me that my parents had met with an accident. They said that a car hit both of them. I then went to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, some media reports claim that the actor himself took the victim couple to the hospital. Shiva Prakash D, DCP Traffic South said that in the alcometer test, no traces of alcohol were found.

Notably, some reports say that actor Nagabhushana was trying to avoid hitting a calf on the road and ended up taking a sharp turn while others say that the actor was driving in a “rash and negligent” manner. The actor, as of now, has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Actor Nagabhushana made his Sandalwood debut in 2018 with the film Sankastha Kara Ganapati. Nagabhushan has appeared in films such as Kausalya Supraja Rama, Daredevil Mustafa, Badava Raskel, and Ikkat, among others.

British Member of Parliament praises Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

0

Last week, the biographer of UP Chief Minister, author Shantanu Gupta was invited and awarded with Global Gandhi Awards 2023 in the House of Commons in Britain. The honour was awarded in the British Parliament in the International Conclave hosted by Business man Vijay Goel and social leader Nachiketa Joshi.

On the occasion, Shantanu also gifted his bestseller graphic novel – “Ajay to Yogi Adityanath” to British parliamentarian Virendra Sharma. MP Virendra Sharma wrote a heartwarming message for UP CM, saying, “Hon. Yogi Adityanath, I would like to congratulate you on achieving a great success in UP. Bringing Peace to the State. Best Wishes, Virendra Sharma. Member of Parliament, UK. 21-Sep-2023….”

Global accolades are not new for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In 2021, Craig Kelly, an Australian Member of Parliament, taking notice of the success of the Uttar Pradesh government in containing the pandemic, lauded the effective leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in crushing the COVID wave.

In his tweet, Craig Kelly said, “Claps for The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Any chance they could loan us their Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to release the Ivermectin sort out the mess our hopelessly incompetent State Premiers have created….”

In 2018, the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) applauded Yogi Adityanath’s government for successfully immunising all children of the state against Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome. In a tweet, UNICEF said, “A big shout out to #UttarPradesh for immunizing every child in the state against Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome under the #Dastak campaign! ? #VaccinesWork for #DimagiBukharSeJung…”

In 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO), praised the Yogi government for its house-to-house tracing in UP to check the spread of the virus. In their tweet, WHO said, “In #India’s ?? most populous state Uttar Pradesh, the state gov. has initiated house-to-house active case finding of #COVID19 in rural areas to contain transmission by testing people with symptoms for rapid isolation, disease management & contact tracing.”

In May 2023, Australian Academic and associate professor at the University of Sydney, Salvatore Babones praised UP Chief Minister for his administration in an interview with Smita Prakash of ANI. Salvatore Babones said, “Compared to other places [in the world] that have similar income levels, Uttar Pradesh is incredibly well-administered.”

In 2021, the Ex-Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Paraksh Singh compared Yogi Adityanath’s governance skills with that of Lee Kuan Yew, the founding prime minister of Singapore. In his tweet, Mr Singh said, “In UP, Mafia property worth Rs 1574 crore has been confiscated. Yogi is emerging as UP’s Lee Kuan Yew.”

In the event at the British parliament last week, addressing the gathering at the House of Commons, author Shantanu Gupta spoke about the Uttar Pradesh growth story. He said the way Indians are valued much more across the globe is due to the ‘Brand Bharat’ that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built around the world, similarly ‘Brand UP’ has become a robust brand across India.

He further added that the same UP which was known for its lawlessness, corruption and inefficient governance is a top investment destination today under the Yogi government. In ease of doing business ranking UP has jumped to 2nd position from a poor 14th position before 2017. UP is today number 1 in more than 40 central government schemes. Today UP is a state of expressways, new airports, 24X7 electricity, robust law and order and much more.

Shantanu also narrated some very interesting interactions between him and Yogi Adityanath’s father Anand Singh Bisht Ji. The author told the gathering at the British Parliament that while finishing the long interview with Anand ji, during the research for his book, Anand Ji told Shantanu that the tiny one-and-a-half-room blue house in the Panchur village is the only asset he was able to manage through his forest guard job in his lifetime. Shantanu said that Anand ji paused a bit, held his hand and told with a great sense of pride – that his biggest asset in life is his honest chief minister son. Anand Ji is no more with us but his “Honest Chief Minister Son” statement still echoes in Shantanu’s mind and it echoes in all the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

AFSPA withdrawn from 4 more districts in Assam, now applicable only in 4 districts, announces Assam DGP GP Singh

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) has been withdrawn from four districts of Assam, and it remains applicable only in four districts effectively from Sunday (1 October) for a period of six months. Conveying the development, the Director General of Police, Assam, GP Singh announced that AFPSA will now remain applicable in only four districts of the state beginning today. The AFSPA has been withdrawn from Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts with effect from October 1.

Assam DGP Singh made this formal announcement while addressing a special function marking Assam Police Day in Guwahati’s 4th APBN Kahilipara. During his address, Singh stated that Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, and Charaideo districts will continue to be notified as “disturbed areas” from 1 October onwards.

These four districts fall in the Upper Assam region and they have been considered as strongholds of militant group ULFA in the past.

Apart from these four districts, AFSPA has been completely removed from other districts of the state. Up to this point, besides the four districts mentioned above, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao also came under the jurisdiction of “disturbed areas”.

In March this year, the AFSPA was extended in all these 8 districts for 6 months by the Assam govt.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Tapan Kumar Deka was also present at the ceremony as the special guest. He praised the Assam Police for their undeterred efforts to bring peace and harmony to their state.

He asserted that the state has witnessed an era of peace as many militant groups have surrendered their arms and joined the mainstream. Furthermore, the state police have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in combating the illegal drug trade and the smuggling of illicit liquor. This has played a pivotal role in advancing the state’s progress.

The ‘disturbed areas’ notification under AFSPA has been applicable to the entire state of Assam since 1990. However, last year, the Centre withdrew the “disturbed areas” notification under AFSPA from the entire state except nine districts and one sub-division of another district. This year in March, AFSPA was further withdrawn from one more district in the state.

Now, the latest development to further reduce ASFPA from four districts comes in line with the announcement of state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had earlier announced that AFSPA could be completely removed from the state by the year’s end in the wake of continuous progress on the Law and Order front.

During his Independence Day address, he said, “In Assam, the AFSPA has been scrapped from many districts already. The law and order situation of the state has improved largely and soon the Act will be completely lifted from the entire Assam.”

Last month the Assam Cabinet recommended the centre to withdraw the Disturbed Areas Act and AFSPA from the entire Assam. This came after Himanta Biswa Sarma met Amit Shah in Delhi and discussed the roadmap for the complete withdrawal of AFSPA from the state.

Tamil Nadu: BJP social media coordinator Praveen Raj arrested for alleged derogatory post against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi

On 1st October, Tamil Nadu state-level social media coordinator of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Praveen Raj, who goes by the name ‘Sanghi Price’, was arrested by Cyber Crime police for allegedly mocking Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. He was arrested from Rasipuram after an FIR was registered against him based on a complaint filed by a Congress party worker in the Namakkal constituency of Karur district.

Raj was detained by the cyber crime police for questioning. BJP officials criticised the arrest, saying it was a severe action by the DMK government. Notably, Raj has been an outspoken critic of the DMK government on various issues, including law and order. BJP has said in a statement that Raj was targeted because of his critical views. Reports suggest that Raj was in direct contact with state party leader Annamalai.

In an X post, Raj said, “At 2 AM, a group of people knocked on the door and attempted to break in. They claimed to be from cybercrime when questioned by the residents. However, when the locals requested to see their identification cards and took photographs of them, they threatened the locals, accusing them of committing a crime.” The local police did not accompany them as per the protocol. “Do you think I will get scared,” he said.

Reacting to the arrest, Karur MP Jothimani said that Praveen Raj was arrested for editing and publishing “obscene videos” of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The Karur District Congress Committee has apprehended the BJP’s IT Wing member for modifying and uploading inappropriate videos of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. While it is reasonable to criticise someone based on political principles, expressing hatred towards a sibling only because of their political involvement is unacceptable. The Tamil community should be ashamed of the BJP’s exploitative and hateful policies. It was Priyanka Gandhi today, but it could be any woman in our homes tomorrow. This problem needs to be addressed. The Congress party does not approve of obscene and hateful criticism of its leaders. In the future, the BJP should abandon such vulgar and hateful political practices and reflect on their actions.”

Reportedly he had posted a video Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi on 10 August and made derogatory remarks about the duo. He also called Rahul Gandhi a dishonest politician. Following this, Karur Congress Committee members filed a complaint against him, and he was arrested by cybercrime officials based on this complaint.

While Raj faced quick action for speaking against political leaders, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin is enjoying freedom even after calling to eradicate Sanatan Dharma.

‘The Telegraph’ moves R Rajagopal to Editor-at-Large role, usual suspects cry foul after he is replaced by Sankarshan Thakur

On Saturday (September 30), R Rajagopal, the Editor of the leftist newspaper ‘The Telegraph’, was promoted to the post of ‘Editor-at-Large.’

The development was confirmed in a notice published by the Ananda Bazar Patrika (ABP) group, which owns The Telegraph. R Rajagopal has been replaced by Sankarshan Thakur.

According to the notice, both Thakur and Rajagopal will continue to report to the Chief Editor and Publisher of the paper. After the development came to light, CPI(M) MP John Brittas suggested that Rajagopal’s removal as Editor was influenced by PM Modi.

“Telegraph- certainly the last post of hope in otherwise, caved in and ‘ Modified’ media-scape under the valiant fighter R Rajagopal. Am sure Sankarshan has the mettle to be the torchbearer of bold journalism,” he tweeted.

A ‘journalist’ named Seema Sengupta blamed the Modi government for the removal of R Rajagopal as the Editor of The Telegraph. This was despite the fact that he is still working in the same organisation but in a different capacity.

Nonetheless, R Rajagopal has been working with The Telegraph since 1996 and assumed the position of Editor in 2016. He had previously worked on the ‘political sections’ of The Economic Times and Business Standard.

The new Editor of The Telegraph, Sankarshan Thakur, has meanwhile updated his X (formerly Twitter) bio and posted the e-paper of the newspaper. As evident from the e-paper, the political propaganda of the West Bengal-based paper is unlikely to change.

ABP journalist arrested in West Bengal

On September 6 this year, a 33-year-old Anandabazar Patrika correspondent namedDebmalya Bagchi, was arrested by the West Bengal police. The development came days after he wrote critical articles about hooch traders operating in the TMC-controlled Sanjoal area in Kharagpur Municipality.

He was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354B (assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe), 509 (uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult modesty of a woman), provisions of SC/ST Act.

A police complaint was filed against Bagchi by his Dalit neighbour on August 27, 2023, for allegedly hurling casteist remarks and assaulting her outside her residence.

It must be mentioned that the Anandabazar Patrika correspondent had written about the laxity of the local administration towards the hooch trade and the harassment of the informants by those involved in the production of bootleg liquor.

Pakistan: Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Qaiser Farooq killed by unidentified assailants in Karachi

On September 30, Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Mufti Qaiser Farooq, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Pakistan’s city of Karachi. This incident raised concerns in Pakistan as it follows a pattern of high-profile terrorists being eliminated in Pakistan. A video of this incident also went viral on social media.

The gunmen ambushed Qaiser Farooq, executing the attack with deadly precision. The deceased, Mufti Qaiser Farooq, was a notorious and long-sought-after terrorist, featuring prominently on Indian law enforcement agencies’ most-wanted lists. This development signifies a significant blow to the Lashkar-e-Taiba network operating in the region.

Pakistani news agencies have characterised the incident as a targeted killing, highlighting the deliberate nature of the attack. The motive behind this killing is currently under investigation by local authorities, who aim to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to a report by Dawn, unidentified armed individuals opened fire on Qaiser Farooq, aged 30 at the Gulshan-i-Umar seminary near the Edhi Centre before fleeing the scene. Samanabad SHO Irshad Ahmed Soomro reported that the injured victims were subsequently transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Qaiser Farooq succumbed to his injuries during treatment, having sustained bullet wounds to the back.

Notably, also in Pakistan, Kamaluddin Saeed, one of the sons of Laskar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, went missing on Tuesday, September 26. Reports suggest that Kamaluddin Saeed was abducted in Peshawar by unknown individuals who arrived in a car. Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, was unable to trace him.

Two days after media reports emerged alleging that Kamaluddin Saeed was kidnapped by unidentified individuals, social media platforms were full of posts claiming that Kamaluddin’s dead body had been found in Peshawar, Pakistan. Kamaluddin Saeed is one of the sons of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind and internationally designated Islamic terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai and an internationally blacklisted terrorist, is currently incarcerated in Pakistan. He co-founded Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based Islamist organisation recognised as a terrorist outfit by various international bodies, including the United Nations Security Council, India, the United States, the European Union, Australia, and Russia.

While the investigations into these incidents continue, the circumstances surrounding Mufti Qaiser Farooq’s death and Kamaluddin Saeed’s disappearance remain shrouded in mystery.

Pakistan: 16 beggars heading to Saudi Arabia to beg for money removed from the flight at Multan airport

The problem of Pakistani beggars continues to affect the Gulf countries. As news of more and more beggars from Pakistan heading to the Gulf continues to emerge, reports have come out that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) removed 16 beggars from a flight to Saudi Arabia at the airport in Multan.

The group which consisted of 11 women, four men and a child, pretended to be Umrah pilgrims and were travelling on Umrah visas in order to enter the Gulf nation. The Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Ḥajj which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

The passengers confessed during the immigration process that they were going to visit the Islamic holy land. The beggars accepted that half of the money they were going to earn through begging would have been given to the travel agencies engaged in their arrangements. FIA has arrested them from Multan for further questioning and legal action.

Notably, the development comes shortly after the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development told the Senate Committee that a large number of overseas Pakistanis engage in begging which puts many of them in legal trouble. 90 per cent of beggars apprehended in foreign countries belong to Pakistan.

The ministry informed, “Both the Iraqi and Saudi ambassadors have reported overcrowded jails due to these arrests.”

Pakistanis make up a significant portion of the pickpockets arrested within Masjid al-Haram in Saudi Arabia and frequently enter the site on Umrah visas to beg. Furthermore, Pakistan has been told not to send any more beggars posing as pilgrims by the Arab nations. The government of Pakistan is asked to take back all the beggars by the administration in those countries.
