Rahul Gandhi skips inauguration of Freedom Fighters memorial in Kerala, Congress leaders express regret over his absence

0

A day after meeting controversial Christian pastor George Ponnaiah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi skipped the inauguration of a memorial for freedom fighters in Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports, memorials commemorating freedom fighters KE Mammen and P Gopinathan Nair have been raised on the premises of the NIMS Hospital on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram near Neyyatinkara.

Rahul Gandhi reportedly agreed to unveil the hospital’s memorial plaque. In the presence of KPCC president K Sudhakaran, their family members offered him the invitation. While prominent state Congress officials such as Sudhakaran, UDF convenor MM Hassan, and local MP Shashi Tharoor arrived at the NIIMS hospital, Rahul did not attend the inauguration despite the fact that the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ was passing through the vicinity.

Later, K Sudhakaran expressed regret for the blunder and assured the NIMS Managing Director that a different inauguration ceremony would be planned. Gandhi’s absence at the event was criticised by MP Shashi Tharoor, who said, “Such things affect the credibility”, as per a report by Deccan Herald. A video of Sudhakaran expressing his regret to the families of freedom fighters is currently going viral on the internet.

Rahul Gandhi, together with other political figures, Congress workers, and numerous ‘activists,’ launched the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on September 7. It began in Kanyakumari and is projected to terminate in Kashmir after 150 days. The Yatra will travel 3,500 kilometres through 12 states.

Though the party is supposed to be attempting to avoid issues during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra,’ it has generated news for all the wrong reasons from the start. The luxurious containers where the leaders spend their night, the inclusion of so-called activists like Yogendra Yadav and the inclusion of anti-Hindu voices like George Ponnaiah have raised several eyebrows.

On July 18 last year, the controversial pastor insulted Bharat Mata by claiming that She is dirty and can cause scabies. During his public address in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, he mocked BJP candidate MR Gandhi for not wearing footwear out of respect for Mother Earth (Bhumadevi/Bharat Mata). In a recent meeting with Rahul Gandhi, he was seen insulting Hindu deities and the Hindu faith.

The posters of the Yatra also have Robert Vadra’s face which points toward his imminent entry into politics. In a short span where the Yatra has not even completed a week, the party is definitely not keen on attracting any more controversies.

‘No govt school has seen such spectacular results’: Arvind Kejriwal on students passing CBSE ‘compartmental’ exams after flunking the main

0

On Monday, September 12, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to congratulate students who passed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 and 12 compartmental exams. He also extended his wishes to the student’s teachers and parents.

Sharing an Aaj Tak report on the same, Kejriwal Tweeted in Hindi, roughly translated to, “Such phenomenal outcomes of government schools in India have never been seen in the recent 75 years. Congratulations to all of the students, parents, and teachers.”

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also said the students have performed ‘exceptionally’ despite the impact of the pandemic in the last two years.

“Due to COVID during the last 2 years, there was an adverse impact on students’ education as well as their mental and emotional well-being. However, despite this, students have performed extraordinarily well in the compartment examinations,” he said.

CBSE organises compartment exams for students who flunk in one or more of the five core subjects in the main

Notably, the CBSE compartment exam is for students who do not pass one or more of the five core subjects in the main board exam. The compartment exam is the option to reappear for the exam without having to repeat an academic year. The candidate is declared ‘Pass’ provided he/she qualifies for the compartmental subject/subjects in which he/she had failed. This year, the CBSE compartmental exams started on August 23 and end on August 29. The results were declared on September 9, 2022.

The Delhi government announced that following the compartment examination, state-run schools in the national capital increased their pass percentage in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) grade 10 by 16%.

According to the government’s official announcement, while the grade 10 pass rate increased from 81.27% to 97.29%, the grade 12 pass percentage increased from 96.29% to 98.21%.

Interestingly the supporters of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have perpetually boasted that a revolution has taken place in the field of education in Delhi. They are never tired of saying that Delhi’s government schools have turned world-class. However, the AAP’s false claims have frequently been exposed.

824 out of 1,027 schools in Delhi do not have a headmaster, NCPCR seeks an explanation

In fact, only recently, on April 12, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sought an explanation for over 824 vacant posts of principals in Delhi government schools. In a letter to Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, the apex child rights body said a team led by chairperson Priyank Kanoongo visited several schools in the national capital and found discrepancies with regard to the infrastructure and other aspects. It further added that most of the schools visited by the teams did not have a Head of School (HoS), and the post was lying vacant.

In another letter to the Chief Secretary, the NCPCR said that Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari visited Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Sabzi Mandi, Timarpur, Delhi, where he found major problems related to the hygiene in the school building. The apex body said such issues might lead to serious accidents in the school.

Assam: Terror module busted, suspects Musadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam arrested from Morigaon

Two terror suspects with links to terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) were apprehended from Morigaon in Assam. The two men are identified as Musadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam, said Aparna N, Superintendent of Police in Morigaon.

This comes days after absconding Bangladeshis were found working as clerics in local madarsa in Goalpara town in Assam. The two were said to have interacted with Jihadi terrorist Jalaluddin Sheikh between 2021 and 2022. The absconding Bangladeshis, Aminul Islam alias Usman alias Mehdy Hasan and Jahangir Alom, were reportedly linked with Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

Assam state government has been cracking down on sleeper terror network in the state and madarsas with suspected terror links are under scrutiny. Madrasas were demolished at Moirabari, Morigaon district, on August 4, Dhakaliapara, Barpeta, on August 29, and Jogighopa, Bongaigaon, on August 31.

The Jamiul Huda Madrasa in Moirabari was razed by the Morigaon district administration on August 4. On August 29, the district administration and police in Assam’s Barpeta district razed a Madrasa managed by Maulvis Akbar Ali and his brother Abul Kalam Azad, who had been arrested for their ties to the Bangladesh-based terror outfits AQIS and ABT. On August 31, officials in Bongaigaon demolished a madrasa with connections to terrorist organisations AQIS and ABT.

Gujarat: Ahmedabad Police busts AAP’s claim of a raid on their office, says no such raid happened

On September 12, Ahmedabad Police refuted the claims made by Aam Aadmi Party that its office was raided on Sunday. The Police said, “News has come to light from social media that Ahmedabad Police went to raid Aam Aadmi Party office. No such raid was conducted by Ahmedabad Police.”

Earlier, AAP Gujarat Chief Isudan Gadhvi has claimed in a tweet that as soon as AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal reached Ahmedabad, Gujarat Police raided the AAP office. He further claimed after searching for two hours, the Police found nothing. “They said they will come back,” Gadhvi had claimed.

Several AAP leaders quoted Gadhvi and lashed out at the ruling party BJP. Arvind Kejriwal said, “The BJP has been badly shaken by the immense support it is getting from the people of Gujarat. A storm is blowing in Gujarat in favour of “AAP”. After Delhi, now started raiding in Gujarat too. Nothing was found in Delhi, and nothing was found in Gujarat too. We are staunch honest and patriotic people.”

AAP’s MLA from Delhi Dilip K Pandey said, “This time the people of Gujarat will thrash the BJP, which is sitting at the peak of restlessness and fury. BJP, steeped in arrogance, has now understood this. Now the goons, the cops are after @AAPGujarat!”

AAP leader Atishi said, “BJP’s people are scared by the growing popularity of Arvind Kejriwal! They think that CBI, ED and Police will scare us. But they do not know that the soldiers of Arvind Kejriwal have come out with a shroud on their heads; Neither are we going to be afraid nor are we going to stop! Will bring change in the country!”

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, “As the Gujarat elections are approaching, the fear of the BJP is increasing. BJP’s only goal in the Gujarat elections is to stop Arvind Kejriwal Ji and Aam Aadmi Party by any means. I want to ask BJP why are you so afraid of Kejriwal Ji?”

Tweet by Manish Sisodia . Source: Twitter

While the AAP leaders and supporters were busy lashing out at Ahmedabad Police and BJP, it turned out that no raid was conducted by Ahmedabad Police at AAP’s office. It is notable that Gadhvi made the claims without any photographic or video evidence. Instead of providing any proof, Gadhvi quoted Ahmedabad Police and further claimed that three Police officers came without notice or warrant. He said it was a tactic to scare AAP workers in Gujarat.

It is unclear if the Ahmedabad Police is planning to initiate any legal action against AAP for spreading fake news.

Pakistan loses to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, triggers meme fest on social media

On Sunday (September 11) night, Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan team on Sunday night.  The island nation managed to win by 27 runs and emerged as the winner of the Asia Cup for the 6th time.

Soon after, Indians took to social media to brutally troll Pakistani cricketers and add salt to their wounds. The harmless social media banter is a part of the intense cricketing rivalry, which exists between the two nations for decades.

Group Chairman of News 18, Tejinder Singh Sodhi, shared visuals of a man hurling shoes at a target and sarcastically wrote, “Exclusive Visuals of people in Pakistan preparing to welcome Pakistan cricket team back home.”

In a tweet, one Amitr shared the video clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 2021 wherein he was seen consoling the Indian female hockey team after they lost out to Australia in the Olympic semi-final. “Aaplog rona baand kijiye (Please stop crying),” he had urged.

While taking a dig at the team, Amit wrote, “Special message to Pakistan cricket from Modi.”

“Some things never change in Pakistan cricket,” wrote another Twitter user while sharing a picture of a missed catching opportunity by the team. During the Asia Cup final, Shadab Khan bumped into Asif Ali and the duo ended up missing a critical catch.

Poor fielding has been one of the hallmarks of the Pakistan cricket team. The scene from Sunday night was reminiscent of the iconic moment when Shoaib Malik and Saeed Ajmal dropped a dolly in 2008 during a match against West Indies.

Several Indian cricket fans seemed jubilant about Pakistan’s loss, given that they were earlier trolled by their counterpart. “Congratulations Pakistan for the amazing Loss!” wrote another user.

One Pulkit uploaded a meme video which showed Afghan and Indian fans rejoicing over the defeat of Pakistan in the Asia Cup Final.

“Congratulations Sri Lanka. Well played,” wrote Arun Prajapati.

Afghan cricket fans, who had earlier thrashed Pakistanis during the match between the two countries, also took the opportunity to celebrate Sri Lanka’s ground thumping win at Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

Sri Lanka posted 170 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs while the Pakistan team lost all wickets at the score of 147 during the Asia Cup Final.

KRK does flip flop, disowns his own tweet about seeking ‘vengeance’, claims media making up stories

On September 11, Film Critic Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) did a flip-flop and disowned his own tweet about ‘vengeance’. In a tweet, he said, “Media is creating new stories. I am back and safe at my home. I don’t need any revenge from anyone. I have forgotten whatever bad thing happened to me. I believe, it was written in my destiny.”

The tweet was published by KRK at 6:43 PM on September 11. Earlier on the same day at 8:11 AM, KRK had published a tweet that said, “I am back for my vengeance,” with an angry emoji. However, now that tweet has been deleted. Notably, KRK spend some time in jail following his arrest on August 29 for a 2020 tweet and he was released on bail after 9 days.

Before KRK’s release, his son took on Twitter and requested assistance, claiming that his father’s life was in danger. Faisal Kamaal said in a Twitter post on September 8 (Thursday) that his father was being tortured at the Mumbai jail where he was held. KRK’s son claimed that his father’s life was in jeopardy and asked for help from Bollywood stars Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The tweet was published from KRK’s Twitter account.

KRK has been a strong critic of the film industry and his film reviews gained millions of views on social media platforms because of his mocking style. Following his arrest, some of his fans speculated that his arrest happened against the backdrop of a conspiracy hatched to ‘save’ the recently released film ‘Brahmastra’ from his critical review.

‘Frustrated’ Ramiz Raja tries to snatch phone of Indian journalist over question about Pakistan’s loss in Asia Cup, watch video

On Sunday (September 11) night, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja courted controversy after he behaved disrespectfully with an Indian journalist and even tried to snatch his phone.

The journalist, identified as Rohit Juglan of Yaari Sports, had asked Ramiz Raza about his message to the Pakistan fans who were mourning the defeat of the Pakistan cricket team in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.

“People are unhappy about the outcome of the match. What is your message for them?” Rohit had asked. The visibly frustrated PCB Chiraman remarked, “You must be from India and your people must be extremely happy.”

“Which people are you talking about?” Ramiz Raza asked. The Yaari Sports correspondent explained that he was referring to the reaction of Pakistani fans. “Am I saying something wrong? Aren’t the people disheartened?” Rohit Juglan inquired.

Instead of responding to the question, the PCB Chairman started walking away and tried to snatch the mobile phone from Rohit’s hand. Ramiz Raza then reprimanded a fan who placed his hand on his shoulder.

“Take off your hand. And move away from the camera frame”, he was heard as saying. While taking to Twitter, Rohit Jaglan asked, “Was my question wrong in any way? Aren’t the people of Pakistan sad over the outcome of the Asia Cup Final?”

He further added, “This behaviour was wrong, given that you are the Chairman of a Cricket Board. You should not have tried to snatch my phone.” It must be mentioned that Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan team on Sunday night.

While the island nation posted 170 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs, the Pakistan team lost all wickets at a score of 147. Sri Lanka managed to win by 27 runs and emerged as the winner of the Asia Cup for the 6th time.

Haryana: Madarsa student’s murder case solved, here is why the 13-year-old killed 11-year-old fellow ‘religious school’ student

On September 11, Haryana Police informed the media that they have solved the murder case of an 11-year-old madarsa student who was found dead in Shah Chokha village in Punhana sub-division in the Nuh district of Haryana. As per SHO Satbir Singh, another 13-year-old madarsa student committed the crime as the accused wanted to get out of the Islamic religious ‘school’ and join a normal school.

Singh said, “Accused boy did not want to study in madarsa that is why he committed this act to bring a bad name to madarsa so that it gets shut and he can get out of it.”

The death of an 11-year-old madarsa student in Nuh

On September 5, the dead body of an 11-year-old madarsa student was found in a madrasa in Shah Chokha village in Punhana sub-division in Nuh district of Haryana. The child was missing since September 3. He left his house to offer prayers at the madrassa but did not return home that night. The family kept on searching for the boy until Sunday and registered a missing complaint with the police on September 5.

On the same day, the child’s body was found buried in sand inside the premises of the madrassa. While speaking about the matter, SHO (Pinangwan police station) Satbir Singh informed that the police received information about the discovery of the victim’s body in the madrassa.

Sidhu Moosewala Murder: Punjab DGP reveals that Lawrence Bishnoi gang conducted a recce of Salman Khan to target him

0

Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav made a big disclosure on 11th September 2022, about the accused involved in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. Yadav said that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had conducted a recce of Salman Khan as he was the next target of the gang. He informed that shooter Deepak Mundi was nabbed from the borders of Nepal and Bengal along with his two accomplices in a joint operation by Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Punjab Police, and central agencies. The other two accused are Kapil Pandit and Rajinder alias Joker.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “These accused were trying to flee to Dubai from Nepal. Their next target was Bollywood actor Salman Khan. At the behest of Lawrence Bishnoi, Deepak and another accused had conducted a recce of Salman Khan. So far, 23 accused have been arrested in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. In all, 33 people are named in the case. Two of the accused have been killed in the encounter.”

The police have brought the accused arrested in the case to Chandigarh. They were presented in the Mansa court. Bolero and Corolla vehicles were used in the murder. Deepak Mundi was part of the Bolero module, which was led by Haryana shooter Priyavrat Fauji. Ankit Sersa and Kashish were also with them. Kapil Pandit and Rajinder Joker provided weapons and helped the gangsters hide.

The four had fled to Gujarat after killing Sidhu Moosewala. Ankit Sersa and Mundi had fled from there. Sersa was arrested in Delhi. Mundi was still absconding. Bishnoi’s brother Anmol was detained in Kenya and his nephew Sachin Thapan was arrested in Azerbaijan. Preparations are underway to bring them to India.

Salman Khan’s recce

Sampat Nehra and the wanted criminal Goldy Brar, who lives in Canada, introduced Kapil Pandit to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who asked him to kill Salman Khan. During questioning, Pandit said that he had previously carried out reconnaissance with the goal to assassinate Moosewala on the order of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in retaliation for the assassination of young Akali leader Vicky Middukhera.

DGP Yadav said, “They had done an elaborate recce and they spent a lot of time in Mumbai and we will also verify this angle in the investigation. The disclosures on targeting Salman Khan were preliminary and yet to be corroborated. We can even send a team to Mumbai.”

Sidhu Moosewala murder

Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa. Deepak Mundi had been absconding since then. Priyavrat Fauji, Ankit Sersa, and Kashish have been arrested by the Delhi Police, while two gangsters Jagroop Rupa and Manpreet Manna were killed in an encounter in Tarn Taran. The police have filed a charge sheet in this case. Now after Mundi’s arrest, the police will present a supplementary challan. In July 2022, Lawrence Bishnoi revealed that Salman Khan was his next target. Now the arrest of Deepak Mundi has reconfirmed the same thing.

After Russia described Wikipedia as “weapon of informational war”, activist group is accused of doxing pro-Ukraine editors and harassing them

Russia has been accused of intimidating Wikipedia Editors with arrest for allegedly spreading disinformation about the Ukraine war, reported Rest of World. The report by Masha Borak claimed that several Wikipedia editors were doxxed and their personal information was posted online by a group named Mrakoborec for publishing content labelled by Russian authorities as pro-Ukraine propaganda.

While alleging that Mrakoborec has been associated with the Russian government, the Rest of World stated that Kremlin passed a law in March 2022 to criminalise the publishing of information that it deem to be fake.

Screengrab of the article by Masha Borak in Rest of World

Wikipedia, which is owned by the Wikimedia Foundation, came under the ambit of the new law and was fined $88000 by a Russian court. The free encyclopedia which has known to have a pro-left bias was temporarily banned by the Russian government in 2015, but the decision was quickly revoked.

Wikipedia has about 1800 Russian-speaking editors, and while the editors claim that they have maintained a neutral stance on the ongoing situation in Ukraine, the Russian govt disagrees and alleges that most of them are spreading pro-Ukraine propaganda. Roskomnadzor, the communications agency of Kremlin, had threatened to block Wikipedia in March this year, after which several users in Russia downloaded offline copies of Wikipedia.

Roskomnadzor had directed the Wikimedia Foundation to remove contentious articles about the Ukraine war and accused it of disseminating child pornography. Russia has labelled Wikipedia as a “weapon of informational war,” and in July, Roskomnadzor ordered Russian search engines to start marking Wikipedia as being in violation of Russian laws on their search result pages.

Wikipedia officials seem to agree that there is an absence of pro-Russia viewpoints on the platform with respect to the war.. Anton Protsiuk, the programs coordinator at Wikimedia Ukraine, said that the Russian authorities have been fairly unsuccessful in promoting their point of view on Wikipedia. This is a shocking admission from Wikipedia, as the platform claims to accommodate all viewpoints.

Impact of Mrakoborec

So far, Wikipedia has been able to follow US laws in Russia due to the absence of an official representative office in Moscow, just like social media platforms were able to evade Indian laws in India by not having local offices. Once the organisation sets up a local office, it will be bound to abide by Russian laws and official requests to take down content.

While most countries demand that such platforms should follow their local laws and have offices in respective countries, the Wikipedia authorities are not willing to open an office in Russia. “The Russian government would like to have all the information so it can punish Wikipedia editors and maybe even the readers,” said Victoria Doronina, a member of the board of trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation remarked, justifying not following Russian law on having a local office.

Reportedly, Mrakoborec has been flagging social media content, which is critical of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, given that Wikipedia is managed by a network of editors most of whom are left-liberals and anti-Russia, such tactics have been less effective on the platform.

With doxing being the alleged new weapon in their arsenal of information warfare, the group had reportedly collected personal information of over 1000 editors of Wikipedia. “You cannot predict who is going to attack. It’s not a bear, it’s a pack of bears,” Victoria Doronina said.

According to Rest of World, the intimidation tactics seemed to have worked. Increasingly, fewer Russian-speaking volunteers are contributing to the Wikipedia edits. Wikimedia Foundation is now worried that it can affect its coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war.

As such, the responsibility to edit articles on the ongoing situation in Ukraine now rests with either pro-war Russian-speaking volunteers or those living far away from Russia and its ally Belarus.

Victims allege Russian government’s hand in doxing

In March 2022, a Belarus-based Wikipedia editor named Mark Bernstein was arrested and held up at the Okrestina detention centre in Minsk city. Just 3 months later, he was sentenced to 3 years of restricted freedom on charges of conspiring to disrupt social order.

Similarly, a Russia-based editor named Mikhail was doxxed on Telegram in March this year. His name and social media accounts were revealed online and Mrakoborec called for ‘Retribution.’ As a result, he started receiving threats on a regular basis.

Mikhail told Rest of World, “I began to act more cautiously. I closed off the social networks from outsiders and became even more careful to monitor (Wikipedia) edits that could be linked to my name and brought up as (legal) violations.”

“I am quite sad to see how the idea of the free flow of information, which has always been at the core of Wikipedia, is being suppressed in my home country with all its might, giving way to government censorship,” he added.

Another Wikipedia editor from Russia, Sergey Leschina, was forced to leave his home country and settle down in Lithuania. “I think almost everybody who edits from Russia or Belarus does it with different accounts,” he pointed out.
