Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before ED, Congress leaders create a ruckus, and protest against the law of the land

On June 13, before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared for questioning at the Enforcement Directorate office in connection to the National Herald money laundering case in Delhi, the Congress leaders created a ruckus and protested against the law of the land.

As per news agency ANI, several Congress leaders were detained from outside the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) office. These leaders were sloganeering in favour of Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier, posters were raised across Delhi by the party to show support for Gandhi. A mega ‘Satyagrah’ protest was planned in the city, but the Delhi Police denied permission for the same. The party had planned the march from party headquarters to the ED’s office. Heavy police presence was seen outside the investigation agency’s office on Monday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrutha Guguloth said in a statement that several Congress leaders were expected to participate in the march. However, the permission was denied because of the communal situation in the national capital clubbed with VVIP movements in the jurisdiction.

Congress has claimed that the Central Government has been using the Central Investigation Agencies to settle a political score with Congress. The party had planned to hold demonstrations across the country at 25 offices. The ruling party, however, called it a drama.

Sambit Patra, Spokesperson for Bharatiya Janata Party, said, “Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are on bail. Rahul Gandhi is supposed to appear before the ED tomorrow. But Congress is making a huge drama out of it. They are calling all their leaders to Delhi. What is the use of all this drama? What is this Satyagrah? Gandhiji would be shamed to see this fake Satyagrah of fake Gandhis. Rahulji, don’t try to escape the rule. This is a legal issue and not a political issue.”

Earlier, Sonia Gandhi asked for a new date to appear before the investigation stating she was suffering from Covid-19. Both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were summoned by the ED in the National Herald case. Sonia Gandhi was called on June 23, considering her ‘health problems’.

As per reports, Rahul Gandhi will be leading a march to the ED office where he is summoned.

National Herald Case

The National Herald scam is one of the most notable legal cases in Indian history, as the Gandhis are directly accused. The Mother-Son duo of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul, along with their aides – Oscar Fernandez, Motilal Vohra and Sam Pithroda, are alleged to have been involved in massive’ cheating and breach of trust’ in the acquisition of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) by Young Indian Pvt Ltd (YIL). Assets worth crores of rupees had been allegedly transferred for purposes other than originally intended for a paltry sum. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi got unconditional bail in December 2015.

Blasphemy row: Islamist mob vandalise railway station, pelt stones at local train in Nadia district in West Bengal

There is no end of violence in West Bengal over comments on Prophet Mohammed by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. In the latest incident in series of violent protests that started on Thursday in Howrah, a railway station and a train was attacked by a mob in the state. On the evening of Sunday, June 12th, 2022, a Islamist mob attacked the Bethuadahari railway station in the Nadia district of West Bengal and damaged a local train at the station. The violence erupted as a part of the so-called protests against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her allegedly derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

A protest march opposing the BJP leader’s remarks was called in Nadia on 12th June 2022. The protest rally turned violent from the beginning, and vandalised shops while going through the Bethuadahari market. As a result of the rioting, the national highway 34 was blocked completely for several hours. Even though police was present at the spot, they could not control the situation.

During this, a part of the mob entered the nearby Bethuadahari railway station, and started vandalising the station. After some moments the up Krishnanagar Lalgola local train arrived at the station, and the mob started pelting stones at the train. There was massive panic among the passengers due to the attack.

As a result of the attack, the train services on the Lalgola section of the line was blocked. After about an hour and a half, the train started running on the Krishnanagar-Rampur line.

Talking about the incident, Eastern Rail spokesperson Ekalabya Chakraborty said, ‘The up train at Bethuadahari was vandalised. An enraged mob vandalised it. As a result the train services were halted.’

A day before, similar violent protests were seen in Howrah and Murshidabad. On 12th June 2022, the violent protestors targeted Nadia. Protesters arranged a march. Then they entered Bethuadahari railway station and went on a rampage. The Ranaghat-Lalgola local train was vandalized at Bethuadahari station. Due to this incident, the train movement was stopped and the passengers were in trouble.

The incident that took place at around 5 pm caused significant disruption to the train movement on the Lalgola-Ranaghat line. After about one and a half hours of suspension of train services, train services resumed on at around 7 pm.

Several Islamist organizations took out a rally in Bethuadahari on Sunday, June 12 to protest against Nupur Sharma’s remarks. According to reports, the procession went to the Bethuadahari market. Houses and shops on the side of the road were then ransacked. As a result, National Highway 34 was completely blocked. Police from Nakashipara police station reached the spot but could not control the situation.

A section of the Islamist mob then reached Bethuadhari station. Then they started attacking the station. As soon as they reached the platform of Krishnanagar-Lalgola Local, they started pelting stones. As a result, the train was stopped. Speaking about the incident, Eastern Railway spokesperson Eklavya Chakraborty said, “The up train was vandalized at Bethuadahari. The violent mob appeared inside the station all of a sudden. As a result, the train was stopped.” The incident caused panic among the passengers.

On Sunday afternoon, high drama was observed in Tamluk, Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, when police barred West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari from visiting violence-affected regions in Howrah. After a two-hour standoff, he was eventually permitted to go on the condition that he proceeds directly to Kolkata, without stopping in the violence-plagued Howrah district.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted on Saturday, “As I have said before, the public life of Howrah is being disrupted and there is an incident of unrest. There are some political parties behind this and they want to spread unrest – but these will not be tolerated and there will be strict action against all this. The BJP has sinned, will the people suffer?”

State minister and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday claimed that there was a political motive behind the unrest. He said, “Bengal is a harmonious place. They are trying to destroy it. However, the state government will not allow this.”

Islamists attack ‘comedian’ Kunal Kamra for sharing a meme on UP Police action on rioting mob

Islamists on social media took to Twitter to attack alleged ‘comedian’ Kunal Kamra after a meme shared by him on Uttar Pradesh Police’s action on rioting mobs rubbed the Islamists the wrong way.

Kunal Kamra’s now-deleted meme

He tweeted an image of Zoya Akhtar’s film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ with an image of an angry-looking policeman with laser eyes standing behind the film’s heroes lathicharging them. The original film starred Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol in lead roles.

However, the meme didn’t quite go down well with Islamists who didn’t find any humor in it and started attacking Kamra. Going by the recent events where offended Islamists have called for beheading and death sentence of those who offend them, it would not be surprising if fearing for his life Kamra deleted the post.

The Wire journalist Alishan Jafri accused Kamra of being a ‘liberal voice’ and called his post ‘insensitive’.

One Aadil said that it is people like Kamra who needs ‘them’ and not the other way round.

‘Comedians’ like Kamra have often mocked dead bodies of Hindus. Recently, his colleague Munawar Faruqui, in a video had mocked the victims of 2002 Godhra carnage. However, when people objected to the same, the ones objecting were accused of being ‘intolerant’ and ‘bigoted’. Faruqui never apologised for his ‘jokes’. Kamra, however, didn’t take more than an hour to delete his meme.

At the time of this report, he has not yet apologised for the meme.

Meanwhile, Kamra was also accused of being an Islamophobic for his meme.

Amusingly, none of these agitated people find the jokes mocking dead Hindus offensive and accuse Hindus whose feelings are hurt of being ‘too sensitive’.

The KAAC has 30 members, out of which 26 are elected and the rest 4 are nominated. And BJP has managed to win all the 26 seats. With this, BJP returned to power in the autonomous council, as the party had won the last elections too in 2017.

In the last elections the party had won 24 out of the 26 seats, decimating the Congress party which had held the council for the previous three consecutive terns. Congress did not win any seat in 2017 also.

“We bow before people of Karbi Anglong for giving BJP a historic mandate in KAAC polls 2nd time in a row,” tweeted Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma after the election verdict.

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council election on held on Wednesday recorded a voter turnout of 79%. Apart from BJP and Congress, other parties contesting the polls included newly formed All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), making it a multi-cornered fight. BJP had contested in all 26 seats, Congress in 24 seats, AAP in 10, and CPI (ML) had contested in 15 seats.

Violence had erupted at two polling booths in Duar Amla constituency during the voting. Ballot boxes were destroyed and papers were reportedly set on fire by mob, but the situation was later brought under control by police. Repolling was held at those booths on 10th June.

Tuliram Ronghang is Chief Executive Member of the outgoing council, who represents the Bithung Rengthama constituency.

The protests by the Islamists against Nupur Sharma over her comments on Prophet Muhammad continue to disrupt normal life in India. On 12th June 2022, large mobs of Muslims took to the streets of various cities in Gujarat in protest against Nupur Sharma. The protest marches were organized in Surat, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot in Gujarat. As the women involved in the march created a ruckus, police had to resort to lathi-charge in the Juhapura area of Ahmedabad.

Besides, the Surat police have arrested 3 persons for spreading communal hatred, while the Rajkot police have detained 5 persons for sticking posters of death threats to Nupur Sharma.

Lathi-charge in Ahmedabad

A large number of people had gathered at the protest rally in the Juhapura area of Ahmedabad. To prevent any unwanted incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot, and tight security was put in place. During the protest, clashes broke out between police and protesters and police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the situation. Some women leaders were also detained after they clashed with the police.

Also in Ahmedabad, the Cyber Crime Branch has registered a case against a person who shared a provocative post on his Facebook profile calling the people to come on the streets after Namaz.

Arrests in Rajkot and Surat over putting up provocative posters and sharing inflammatory messages on WhatsApp

A large number of posters demanding the arrest of Nupur Sharma were found near Azad Chowk in Rajkot. Upon receiving the information, the police removed the posters and tight security was deployed in sensitive areas.

After a video went viral on social media showing posters of ex-BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma being pasted outside Hussaini chowk in Ramnathpara, the Rajkot police nabbed five people. After examining CCTV footage, the police were able to identify all five suspects. It’s worth noting that three days earlier, prominent members of the minority community submitted a memorandum to the Rajkot district collector in protest of Nupur Sharma’s controversial statements against Prophet Mohammed.

Arrests have also been made in Surat for affixing posters of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma with the impression of a shoe on them, as well as for spreading a message on Whatsapp calling on Muslims to ensure that what happened in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand happens in Gujarat.

According to a report by Desh Gujarat, a WhatsApp video of two persons putting posters of Nupur Sharma with a sign of a shoe painted on her face had gone viral in the last 2-3 days. Another text message, telling Muslims that their goal would not be achieved by simply printing 40-50 posters, but that more needed to be done to ensure the events of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand repeat in Gujarat, went viral on Whatsapp with the goal of spreading hatred between Hindus and Muslims.

Following a thorough investigation of the viral video and text message, police identified Mohammed Taufiq Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh (Resident of Chand Subedar Building, Nanpura) and Saddam Rauf Syed (Resident of Jamalsha Mohalla, Kadasha Ni Naal) as the individuals pasting Nupur Sharma posters in the video. Interrogation of these two led the police to Imran Habib Khan Pathan, a printing press employee in the city who printed Nupur Sharma’s posters for the two. All three have been arrested by the police.

Gujarat police on alert

In Gujarat, the police and cyber cell are keeping a close eye on the controversial posts about religion and individuals. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi has clearly instructed the police to take stern action against all those who shared provocative posts and incited people to take to the streets. The police are on high alert to control the law and order situation in the state. Action is also being taken against those who put up provocative posters on streets across the state.

Maharashtra: Engineering student Saad Ashfaq Ansari arrested by Bhiwandi police after he was assaulted by a mob for supporting Nupur Sharma

On Sunday (June 12), a young Muslim boy named Saad Ashfaq Ansari was arrested by the Bhiwandi police in Maharashtra for supporting ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and questioning the nature of the relationship between the Prophet Muhammad and his wife Ayesha. Earlier yesterday he was assaulted and abused by a Muslim mob for his stand in the ongoing blasphemy row and supporting Nupur Sharma.

In an Instagram story, Ashfaq had written, “A 50-year-old man marrying a 6-9-year-old kid is clear child abuse. And I don’t know how you people support this. Will you give your 6-year-old daughter to a 50-year-old man? (think about it).”

An engineering student by occupation, he had extended his support to Nupur Sharma and referred to her as a ‘brave lady.’

In one Instagram story, Ashfaq had posted, “I am not in support of any religion. I fucking hate them all. I am just scared to live in a world where you and your family can be killed just because you spoke something about a man who died many years ago.”

“Grow up guys. Ditch the religions which spread terrorism in the world and be human being. It’s just that simple. I already know how much hate I will get from posting this and prepared to be misunderstood because you people are still kids,” he had written.

Muslim mob assaulted Ashfaq at his house

On Saturday (June 11) night, a frenzied Muslim mob reached the residence of Saad Ashfaq Ansari and forced him to come out of his house to confront him over the social media posts. After having mustered enough courage, the Muslim boy managed to address the mob.

With a terrified look on his face, he said, “If I wanted, I could have stayed inside. But I came out to talk to you.” After hearing this, a man in the crowd threatened, “If you had stayed inside, we would have dragged you out and thrashed you.”

The boy pleaded with folded hands but the crowd refused to relent. He was forced to read the Kalma (Islamic phrases). As he proceeded to recite the verses, a man slapped him on his face while others continued to threaten him with physical harm.

Cops were intimidated to take action against the Muslim boy

On Sunday (June 12), a Muslim mob again reach the the house of Ashfaq and held demonstrations outside the house. They later filed a complaint at the Nizampura police station in Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra against Saad Ashfaq Ansari alleging blasphemy. According to a man, who was part of the violent mob, Ashfaq had supposedly made ‘objectionable remarks’ against Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

“The lovers of the Prophet (Aashiq-e-Rasool) of Bhiwandi went to his house immediately, and nabbed him. They also thrashed him at his house,” the man told Express News Hindi.

“In the morning, when the news spread, I and others received phone calls that a police complaint must be registered against the blasphemy accused. The matter will not rest with merely an apology,” he added.

After offering Namaz, he along with other community members submitted a memorandum to the Nizampura police. “I want to make it clear that if such an incident is repeated, then, the law will take its own course and we will take ours,” he threatened.

Bhiwandi police summon Nupur Sharma

The blasphemy row seems to be a burning issue in Bhiwandi as the police there have also summoned Nupur Sharma to question her. An FIR was registered by Bhiwandi police on May 30 against Nupur Sharma on the complaint of a Raza Academy representative, and the police have confirmed that they have a issued a summon asking her to appear before them on an undisclosed date. Mumbai police have also summoned Nupur Sharma asking her to appear on June 25. Similarly, Mumbra police in Thane has summoned her on June 22. Bhiwandi police have booked Naveen Kumar Jindal also, and issued a summon to appear on June 15.

Radical Palestinian preacher calls Hindus ‘filthy cow worshippers’, urges Pakistanis to fight Hindus on border, watch video

Radical Palestinian Islamic preacher Nidhal Siam, speaking at a gathering, referred to Hindus as “filthy cow worshipers,” and exhorted Pakistani Muslims to attack Indians on the border. Siam said during a gathering at the Al Aqsa mosque in Palestine that the only response to the “Cow-Worshiping” Hindus against the Prophet Muhammad is to declare Jihad to destroy them.

In the video, the Palestinian preacher says, “Hindus, you filthy Hindus, Muhammad is the master of all people.” He further says, “The infidels take turns in waging this war against Muslims. First, it was America with its aggression then along came Sweden with its Kidnapping of Muslim Children. France and Russia also attacked Muslims many times, then there is China with its crimes, and now the Hindu cow-worshipers, who have destroyed mosques, killed Muslims and destroyed their villages, now they slander the Master of Mankind PBUH.”

Openly asking for Jihad against the Hindus, the preacher said, “The one and only reaction to such a thing is to declare Jihad for the sake of Allah and to open up battle fronts for fighting.”

Also, he pulled in Pakistan and urged the Muslims of Pakistan to fight with India. He said, “As for you the people of Pakistan, you have a greater duty than others in fighting the Hindus. They are right there on your border occupying parts of your land and killing your people.”

While radical Islamists are attacking her across the world, Nupur Sharma is also gaining some support in the aftermath of global outrage over her statements and numerous violent riots in several locations. Thousands of Hindus in Nepal recently demonstrated in support of Nupur, who has received death threats as a result of her statements about the Islamic Prophet. Geert Wilders, a Dutch lawmaker, has also supported Nupur Sharma.

Ex-Cricketer Venkatesh Prasad takes Congress-friendly Mint columnist Abhishek Baxi to cleaners, here is what happened

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad stripped pro-Congress Mint journalist Abhishek Baxi after he ridiculed him, insinuating that Prasad was a BJP operative. Baxi insinuated that Prasad was a BJP operative on Twitter, quoting a tweet in which Prasad called out those who were engaging in whataboutery on a previous tweet in which he condemned the hanging of an effigy of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Baxi, quoting the tweet by Venkatesh Prasad wrote, “Why don’t you call Jay Shah directly and work it out instead of sending these feelers?”

To that, pulling Abhishek Baxi, Prasad quoted his tweet and wrote, “Why do you flaunt your stupidity and polish your ignorance and make it shine further instead of learning not everything in this world works according to your stupid assumptions and hallucinations.”

Again, Baxi quoted Prasad’s tweet and wrote, “Calm down, Mr. Prasad. My tweet, in fact, was quite respectful because if you’re peddling what you are without any expectations, it really is embarrassing.”

To which, Prasad underscored Baxi’s allegiance to the Congress and gave a befitting reply to Abhishek Baxi, writing, “Stop embarrassing yourself Mr. Baxi. If upon speaking ones heart and mind, you by your intolerance you put your stupid allegations, by that logic the kind of blind licking you have been doing for years, you should have been Congress President by now. BUT such things don’t work.”

This comes after Venkatesh Prasad voiced his displeasure and condemned the hanging of an effigy of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma outside a mosque in Belgavi, Karnataka, over her remarks regarding Prophet Muhammad in a tweet on Sunday.

Earlier, Prasad voiced his dismay at the hanging effigy in a tweet, saying he couldn’t believe this was India in the twenty-first century.  He had pleaded with everyone to let rationality take precedence over politics. However, his plea for logic infuriated some ‘liberals,’ Islamists, and others, who, rather than agreeing to cease the violence and death threats, engaged in whataboutery.

Some even attempted to defend it by noting that political workers and cricket fans have both burned effigies. However, burning an effigy as a means of protest is not the same as hanging an effigy as a death threat and a message to others that if they hurt the religious emotions of one community, they would face the same destiny.

The former cricketer, frustrated by hardliners’ refusal to let rationality win, described it as crazy.  He indicated explicitly that this effigy poses a threat to several people, not only Sharma. Notably, when the Taliban, an Islamist fundamentalist group, toppled the Afghan government, bodies were hanged from cranes for public display.
