‘Why should one person be targeted?’: Gandi Baat actress Gehana Vasisth vows to expose others involved in porn industry

Gandi Baat actress Gehana Vasisth, who is embroiled in the Raj Kundra pornography case, has said that she will reveal the names of people involved in the porn industry when she meets Mumbai Crime Branch officials. She was reportedly summoned on Sunday but could not do so as she is currently away from Mumbai.

Gehana Vasisth told Entertainment Times, “When I meet the Crime Branch officials I will give them names of the girls and the people involved in the porn industry. Both men and women are involved in the industry and those names will be shared with the police. Those girls who are playing the victim card today are worried that once their names come out they are bound to turn into the accused in the case.”

“And there are others, who are making allegations, but are involved in making porn content, which is available on the internet. I have all the names and am going to file an official complaint against all those involved in the porn industry. Why should one person be targeted and both Raj Kundra and I are still accused in the case and not convicted,” she added.

The actress, explaining her inability to meet the investigating officials, said, “I received the message only late last night but no official summons has been sent to me. As you know I am out of Mumbai and it is not possible to book a ticket immediately and due to COVID 19 protocols an RTPCR test is compulsory, too. My bank accounts have been frozen so I need to make arrangements before I travel back to Mumbai in the couple of days. I will definitely meet the Crime Branch officials and I am looking forward to answering all their questions.”

Earlier in 2021, it was reported that Vasisth allegedly lured struggling actors to perform in porn movies with the prospect of monetary compensation. It was suggested that Gehana Vasisth aka Vandana Tiwari lured new and struggling actors who were seeking to make a career in the entertainment industry. She would pay them Rs 15,000-20,000 to work for her movies, a police officer privy to the case was reported to have said.

‘Dig their own grave’: Times of India mocks Indian archers after Tokyo Olympics defeat

Following the defeat of ace archers Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav at the Quarterfinal stage of the Mixed Archery event of the Tokyo Olympics, Times of India (TOI) chose to mock the athletes over their performance.

On Sunday (July 25), the leading national daily published a contentious article titled, “Tokyo Olympics: India’s archers dig their own grave, again.” The article authored by Archiman Bhaduri sought to compare the defeat at a sporting event to digging one’s own grave. While the headline seemed to be a deliberate attempt to insult the athletes, the tone of the article was both condescending and demeaning to the sportspersons.

After losing out to Kim Je Deok and An San of South Korea, TOI mocked the Indian archers by claiming that they were ‘below par’ and handed over the victory to the opponents ‘on a platter’. “In fact, the Indian archers presented the two Korean Olympic debutants the victory on a platter, although both sides were below par. Archery’s powerhouse Korea won two sets despite scoring a low 35 out of a possible 40. This only showed how India allowed them to escape with victory,” the article claimed.

A supposed expert in archery, Archiman Bhaduri went on to claim that there was no coordination between Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav. “There was little coordination among the Indian archers as they failed to boost each other after a poor shot. Deepika and Jadhav did not look comfortable as a team in their first match too, although they managed to come back from 1-3 down to beat the Chinese Taipei,” he added. The article further accused Jadhav of ending the Indian campaign at the Olympics with his shot.

While criticism is a part and parcel of any professional sportsperson’s career, an attempt to demean or undermine his/her achievements only weakens their confidence and morale. Both Praveen Jadhav and Deepika Kumari hail from humble backgrounds and managed to represent India at the largest stage of the sporting world. Kumari is currently the No.1 ranked archer in the world. After having undergone rigorous training for 4 years, they managed to reach the Quarterfinals.

This feat in itself is a matter of immense pride. But, with the headline and destructive criticism, TOI only managed to undermine the efforts of the two athletes.

Larger than life flex boards placed near temples hailing Kerala CM as ‘God’ stirs controversy, CPI(M) denies involvement

A flex board placed in front of the Valanchery Maha Vishnu Temple in Malappuram, Kerala describing CM Pinarayi Vijayan as ‘God of Kerala’ has stirred up a hornet’s nest of angry opposition and criticism for the communist government in the state.

According to reports, the larger than life flex hoarding, with a huge portrait of the chief minister, placed atop the board with the name of the Vishnu temple read: “You asked who is God. The people said the one who provides food.”

‘All prominent temples have turned red’: temple authorities fears disruption of law and order

However, this was not the only poster that was placed in and around the temple. A second flex board went on to describe the Communist government in the state as ‘God’. It asked what further proof was needed in elections that the gods were communists.

Posters hailing Kerala CM come up outside a temple

Yet another hoarding with photographs of Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet ministers said that the places where prominent temples were located had “turned Red” this election.

These posters stirred up a major controversy. Authorities at the Pachiri Maha Vishnu temple confirmed that the board came up during the swearing-in of the second LDF government in May. The local CPM leaders, meanwhile, tried to wash off their hands by refuting the claims. They denied having any role in the incident.

Talking to TOI, the president of the Pachiri Vishnu temple committee Raveendran M expressed concern over the installation of flex boards, especially the second some, which, he opined, may lead to disruption of law and order.

“Some people raised a protest against the second board which mentioned electoral outcomes in temple towns and said that they will burn down the board. As we were concerned that it could lead to law and order issues, we approached the Valancherry police and the SI asked them to remove the second board. Though it was removed soon, the CM’s board remained there until last week. After it was widely shared on social media it was shifted to a spot 20 metres away”, said Raveendran M.

Kerala government criticised for the handling of Covid pandemic

Over the last few months, the communist government in Kerala led by CM Pinarayi Vijayan has received severe criticism over its incompetence to handle the pandemic. OpIndia reported how, despite raging infections in Kerala and the state government’s inability to manage the pandemic, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government had given in to the pressure of the Muslim community in the society and had lifted lockdown restrictions for three days to celebrate Bakrid or Eid-ul-Adha from July 18 to July 21. The Kerala government had announced relaxations for the Bakrid festival in a press conference organised on July 17.

Kerala recorded almost 17,000 new Covid-19 cases taking the tally to a two-month high on the day lockdown was relaxed. This raised fears that the Kerala state government’s biased decision, may turn Eid-ul-Adha/Bakri Eid celebrations into Covid-19 super-spreader events across the country.

Rajasthan: Taufeen becomes ‘Vicky’ to befriend minor, rapes her repeatedly by blackmailing her of leaking intimate videos

A 16-year-old girl has been allegedly raped and blackmailed on the basis of a video clip shot by three men in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, reports Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar.

The teenager’s father lodged a complaint at Jaynarayan Vyas (JNV) colony police station in Bikaner, alleging that Taufeen Naych alias Vicky, a resident of Old Ginani, along with his two aides, befriended his daughter on social media and raped her multiple times during the period from 22 January 2021 to 13 July 2021. He said that after befriending his daughter, the three youths one day entered his house and made obscene videos and photos of his daughter. They then used these personal photos and video to blackmail her for sexual favours.

At first, the girl was too scared to speak out, but finally, she decided to break her silence and confide in her parents, who, in turn, approached the police to lodge a complaint against the three accused.

According to the Dainik Bhaskar report, the investigation has been handed over to CO Sadar Pawan Bhadauria, who confirmed that efforts are being made to nab the accused how are on the run.

Rajasthan is not new to such incidents of atrocities on women. Earlier this month, OpIndia had reported how Alwar in Rajasthan has turned into a hotspot for crime against women. We listed out several such cases where women including minors were brutally raped in the region.

Meanwhile, the Mewat region, which falls over Rajasthan and Haryana, has also been a hotbed of organised crime, cattle smuggling and illegal Rohingyas. Several cases of attempted love jihad and forced conversion of non-Muslim into Islam have come to the fore from this region.

Delhi: Two women accuse occultist Zakir of repeatedly raping them as minors and forcing them to convert to Islam

A woman has accused an occultist of rape and forced conversion in the Shahdara district of Delhi, reported ABP News.

The accused has been identified as one Zakir. The victim recounted that she first met the occultist in 2005, following an epileptic seizure. At that time, she was just 10 years old and was taken to Zakir for ‘treatment’ at the suggestion of a relative. The accused started visiting her house frequently and managed to win the trust of her family members. Zakir, who lived in the Jyoti colony near Durgapuri Chowk, then sexually exploited her on multiple occasions and also targetted her minor neice.

While speaking to ABP News, she said, “My father and mother were both school teachers. But my mother had died by that time. Zakir won the trust of family members and would often suggest ‘treatment’ for my health condition. He would extort money from us in the name of ‘animal sacrifice (bali)’ and misled by family into believing that Satan must be pleased for my cure. He raped me for the first time when I was just 13 years old. Zakir claimed that the heinous act was the work of ‘Satanic forces’ and continued to rape me for years. I had to undergo abortions four times.”

The victim’s father was buried instead of being cremated

The victim, now 25, informed that the occultist had a strong influence on her brother so much so that he converted him to Islam. She further narrated, “He prepared a false affidavit, which claimed that my date of birth was 1985. This is despite the fact that all my school certificates and even my BA degree carry my real date of birth (1995). When my father died, Zakir prevented us to perform his last rites (as per Hindu traditions). He instead got my deceased father buried in a cemetery in Sundar Nagari under the pseudonym of Mohammed Yusuf.” The woman also said that the occultist performed nikkah with her in the absence of any Islamic cleric and claimed his rights on her.

Police refused to register two FIRs, ommitted crucial details

She was put under house arrest and barred from going anywhere. On June 17 this year, the victim forcibly went to the accused’s house and was thrashed brutally by his wife and child. She then called her niece, who then dialled the Police Control Room (PCR). They were told to visit the GTB Enclave police station. When the woman narrated her ordeal to the police, she was told to visit the Shahdara police station. The cops, stationed there, were informed about the heinous acts committed by Zakir against the victim and her. However, the police refused to register two First Information Reports (FIRs) and said that they could only register one FIR.

The woman alleged that the police didn’t note down all details and deliberately kept loopholes in the FIR so as to benefit the occultist. Meanwhile, Zakir was able to secure an anticipatory bail from the Court. The police refused to lodge a case against Zakir for atrocities committed against the victim’s minor niece. Only after they approached the Magistrate, the police were forced to register a separate FIR and invoked the POCSO (Prevention of Child Sexual Offences) Act. The victim’s niece, who was born in 2005, recounted that Zakir first raped her when she was in 4th standard and then raped her on multiple occasions.

Zakir raped the victim in front of minor niece and targeted her as well

By 2017-2018, it became unbearable for the minor girl to tolerate further assaults. Zakir would frequently make cuts on her hand with a blade and claim to offer the blood as sacrifice. The girl conceded that her aunt was raped several times in front of her by the occultist. On June 17, when Zakir began raping her aunt, she called the police. But, her efforts were in vain. The victim’s niece lamented that the Shahdara police did not execute their responsibilities and refused to lodge the FIRs on the day of the complaint.

The girl informed, “I am 16 years old but the cops wrote my age as 21 in the FIR. This was despite the fact that I showed my school certificate to the police. The deliberate errors by the police have proved advantageous to Zakir. He has ruined our entire family and raped me and my aunt for years. We deserve justice. He had also prepred false affidavits to show that my aunt has converted to Islam. However, he couldn’t do that to me. He used to say that I am also a Muslim and must follow Islam. My maternal grandfather had never converted but he was buried at a cemetery in Sundar Nagri.”

Hindu group and social organisation come to the rescue of the victims

Jai Bhagwan Goel, the Working President of the United Hindu Front, has come to the victim and her niece’s rescue. While speaking about the matter, he said, “We have learnt how Zakir had committed atrocities on the two victims. They were raped for several years, forcibly converted and their properties were encroached upon. We spoke to the DCP of Shahdara district about the ease with which Zakir was able to get anticipatory bail. It only goes on to highlight their laxity in both the cases and their sympathies for the perpetrators. We will do everything possible to ensure that both get justice.”

Social worker, Dr Anita Gupta, informed, “The matter has come before us and we are going to help the duo through our NGO Maa Shakti. This is a case of rape and forced religious conversion. The woman and her niece have been tortured for several year. However, it is beyond comprehension how the police have ommitted important details from the FIR despite the POCSO Act which helped Zakir to get anticipatory bail.” In its defence, the Shahdara police claimed that the anticipatory bail was granted by the court and that they did not have any role in it.

PTI pushes positive report on Chinese vaccine amidst global concern over its efficacy

At a time when Chinese Covid-19 vaccines are coming under intense scrutiny for their inefficacy in combating the disease, the Press Trust of India (PTI) published a fluff piece to whitewash its inefficacy. The article was authored by Michael Head for The Conversation and reproduced by the PTI.

In an article titled “CoronaVac vaccine: its results are patchy, but the world can’t ignore its usefulness”, a stoic defense was mounted for Chinese Coronavirus vaccines. The CoronaVac vaccine is produced by the Sinovac Biotech Company in China. The article did concede that the vaccine trials have “painted a mixed picture”.

The report states, “In a trial run in Brazil, the vaccine (CoronaVac) prevented people developing symptomatic COVID-19 with 51% efficacy. In another trial in Indonesia, the vaccine showed 65% efficacy. For comparison, the efficacy of the Moderna and Pfizer mRNA vaccines exceeded 90% in their trials.”

It added, “However, CoronaVac showed very high protection against being hospitalised with COVID-19 in these trials, and almost 100% protection against dying from the disease, and it was on the basis of these findings that the WHO recommended its use. Since then, results of a further phase 3 trial run in Turkey have been published, suggesting that CoronaVac is safe and has an efficacy of 83%.”

While admitting that the CoronaVac has significantly lesser efficacy than their western counterparts, the article claims that “the world needs all the vaccines it can get, and we cannot afford to pick and choose between them. There’s good evidence that all the vaccines approved by the WHO protect against symptomatic disease, and also evidence that they in turn reduce onward transmission.”

The article concludes, “While vaccine demand continues to greatly outstrip supply and there’s huge inequity in the global vaccine rollout, there remains a big role for CoronaVac to play – even if it is slightly less effective than some other vaccines. Populations remain unprotected. Until that changes, the pandemic won’t end.”

Global concern over Chinese Covid vaccines

Over 600 health workers in Thailand were infected with Covid-19 despite receiving two doses of the Sinovac vaccine. 131 health workers in Indonesia, mostly vaccinated with Sinovac, have died due to Covid-19. Top health officials in Singapore have expressed doubt over Sinovac’s efficacy as well.

Kenneth Mak, Director of medical services, Singapore, on Friday, had said that he was worried over the vaccine’s effectiveness as reports coming from other countries suggest those who got Sinovac shot were still getting infected with Covid-19. He mentioned cases from Indonesia where health workers and doctors had to be hospitalized after contracting Covid-19 infection though they were vaccinated with Sinovac shot. He added, “It does give the impression that the efficacy of different vaccines will vary quite significantly.”

A ban has been imposed on any kind of construction at the site. As a preventive measure, action has been taken against 16 people from one community and 26 people from the other community to ensure peace in the region under Section 151 (Arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences).

Muzaffarnagar resident accuses Altnews co-founder Mohammed Zubair of issuing death threats, FIR registered

A Muzaffarnagar resident has accused Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair of issuing threats to his life. Consequently, an FIR has been registered against Zubair under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 192 (fabricating false evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

India first: On Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi talks about “Amrut Mahotsav”, urges countrymen to participate in India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the countrymen to take part in the Amrut Mahotsav events being held across the nation to celebrate to mark the 75th Independence Day of India on August 15, 2022.

Addressing the nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the August 15 celebrations this year and added this year is special since it is the 75th Independence Day.

“The 75th Independence Day should be an inspiration for us. Our mantra should be “India first,” it should be the basis of all our decisions,” PM Modi said while addressing the 78th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.

As part of the celebrations, the country will remember its freedom fighters and revive their history, PM Modi said.

“I had asked the youth to research and write on our freedom struggle on one of the earlier Mann Ki Baat episodes. The purpose of this exercise was to make young talent, thinking and opinion come forward. I was pleased to find that more than 2,500 youths carried out this task,” he said.

The Government of India is planning to celebrate “Amrut Mahotsav” – the 75th anniversary of India’s independence as a “people’s movement”. The Modi government has already started preparations for the 75th-anniversary celebrations and intends to organise several events to commemorate the historic event. The events will be managed by a national implementation committee which will be headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Prime Minister Modi also said several programmes related to “Amrit Mahotsav” will be being organised by the government and social organisations. One such event would be held this time on August 15 relating to the national anthem. He said that the Cultural ministry has launched a website, rashtragaan.in where people can listen to the national anthem and sing and record the same. The government targets to have over 75 lakh Indian citizens to sing the national anthem and create a record on 15th August.

Earlier in June, Prime Minister Modi had launched “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” in Gujarat by paying tributes to MK Gandhi and other freedom fighters who lost their lives fighting for the country’s independence before flagging off the event.

“Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav means the “elixir of the energy of freedom,” the PM had said, adding, “It means the nectar of inspiration from freedom fighters, the nectar of new ideas, the nectar of new resolutions and the nectar of self-reliance”.

He also spoke about the National Handloom Day, which is coming up on 7th August and urged citizens to support local artists. He urged every citizen to buy something and spread the word on handloom by sharing the images with the hashtag #MyHandloomMyPride hashtag.

High-level security meet held ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, a high-level joint security forces meeting was held on Sunday to discuss and review security preparations. The Indian Army, Air Force, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF), Intelligence bureau, and J&K police were part of the meeting.

According to the reports, the high-level meeting was aimed at discussing operational preparedness, coordination, and convergence on issues of mutual interest among the internal security forces.

Security forces sources said that ahead of August 15, drone attacks may be planned in Jammu and Kashmir, and some terrorists might carry out attacks in the Kashmir valley.

Following the multiple incidents witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces have been put on a high alert to neutralise any suspicious incidents reported in the region.

‘It is Badruddin Shah, not Badrinath’: Old video of UP Maulana demanding that Hindus should handover the shrine to Muslims goes viral

Two days after reports of Namaz being offered on Bakrid at one of the holiest sites of Hinduism, Badrinath, created a flutter on social media websites, a 2017 video of a Darul Uloom Deoband’s Maulana Abdul Latif Qasmi from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh laying claims on the Hindu shrine has now gone viral on social media.

In the video, the Maulana says the Hindus should hand over the ninth-century shrine to Muslims. “Yeh Badrinath nahi Badruddin Shah hain” (it is not Badrinath, it is Badruddin Shah), says the Maulana adding that merely suffixing “nath” at the end of the name will not convert the place into a religious shrine of the Hindus.

The Mufti goes on to audaciously say that the Hindus should hand over the shrine to the Muslims as it originally belonged to Muslims. He asks Hindus to look back into history before claiming possession of the shrine.

Abdul Latif Qasmi also demands from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to handover the shrine to Muslims. Besides, he asks the temple management to vacate the temple.

The 1:00 minute video ends with the Maulana threatening Hindus that Muslims would lay hold of the shrine if not given back to them. “If it is not given back to us, we Muslims would march to the shrine and capture it”, says the Uttar Pradesh Maulana.

Maulana had laid claim on Badrinath in 2017

It is pertinent to note here that this video which has resurfaced on the microblogging site today is originally from 2017. On November 15, 2017, Maulana Abdul Latif Qasmi has made this obnoxious claim. Reacting to these remarks, UP CM Yogi Aditynath had then said: “It is an attempt to disturb the harmony and peace in society. The government has taken cognizance of the matter and surely action will be taken such elements.”

The video which surfaced today in originally from 2017

Meanwhile, Netizens were outraged after the video went viral on Twitter. Many demanded that the Maulana be arrested.

The demand of the arrest of Maulana increases as his old video goes viral

Letting out his fury over the Maulana’s remark, Zee Media journalist Tejpal Rawat asked Hindus to wake up before it’s too late. “These people not only audaciously offer Namaz on Bakrid at Badrinath but are also laying claim on the Hindu shrine. Hindu’s wake up before things go out of control”, Tweeted Rawat in Hindi.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Patel Umrao opined that Maulana Abdul Latif’s statement can pose a threat to the law and order of the state. Tagging Saharanpur Police and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his Tweet he demanded that the Maulana be arrested for hurting Hindus religious sentiments and disturbing social unity.

Rumours of Namaz being offered inside Badrinath shrine

On July 22, the news of 15 labourers offering Namaz at Badrinath Dham in the holy town on the occasion of the Bakri Eid on July 21 (Wednesday) started doing the rounds on social media, with users demanding a probe into the matter as to how non-Hindus were allowed to offer Namaz inside the premises of a hallowed Hindu shrine.

However, later the rumours floating on social media were dispelled after it was reported that the labourers did not offer namaz inside the temple premises of Badrinath Dham. Instead, it was offered 700 metres away from the temple premises. An FIR has also been lodged in connection with the unlawful assembly of people during the pandemic.
