Using burqa to gain sympathy’: Netizens amused as gangster Ravi Pujari spotted in a burqa as his police custody gets extended

On Tuesday, gangster Ravi Pujari was produced before a Mumbai sessions court in connection to a firing case at a restaurant in Vile Parle on October 21, 2016. He was brought to Mumbai from Bengaluru and has now been remanded to police custody till March 9.

In February 2020, Ravi Pujari was extradited to India from South Africa after absconding from Indian authorities for several years. He was lodged at a jail in Bengaluru, Karnataka. A team of Mumbai police left for Bengaluru on February 20, following an order by a Karnataka court that allowed Ravi’s handover to the Mumbai police. A case was registered against him following the firing incident under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Netizens wondered about the ‘purpose’ of burqa

While he was being taken to the court today, Ravi Pujari was spotted in a neon green T-shirt and a black veil. Netizens became amused and wondered whether he had been sporting a burqa to stir sympathy. One Vaibhav Bhandari inquired, “Using burqa to gain sympathy, very thoughtful.”

Twitter user, Anu Audichya wrote, “Neon t-shirt with a burqa, great combo, one should imitate this dressing style.” Another user took potshots at Ravi Pujari and tweeted sarcastically, “Don in Burqa.”

Other users were left wondering as to why the gangster was sporting a Burqa.

Another user claimed, “Dawood once told that he will make ravi pujari wear burqa.”

Ravi Pujari was brought to Mumbai by road on Tuesday morning. The anti-extortion cell produced him before the special Sessions court. He was then remanded to police custody till March 9 by Special Judge D.E. Kothalikar. The police had earlier informed that his 7 aides have already been arrested. Pujari hails from Udipi in Karnataka and ran an extortion racket. He had earlier threatened actor Shah Rukh Khan in 2014 and had also warned industrialist against messing with actress Preity Zinta.

Allahabad High Court acquits Brahmin man who spent 20 years in jail on false charges of rape and SC/ST Act due to ‘sorry state of affairs’: Details

0

The Allahabad High Court has set aside the conviction of a Brahmin man booked under allegation of rape and provisions of the SC/ST Act after it observed that the trial court had ‘materially erred’ while convicting him. The Court acquitted the man who had spent 20 years in prison on false charges of rape. Bar and Bench first reported the matter on the 8th of February.

The Court also expressed sadness over the ‘sorry state of affairs’ that contributed to the man’s two decade imprisonment, observing the government’s failure to recommend his case for remission of sentence or to commute his sentence under sections 432-434 of the CrPC.

The Bench, comprising of Justices Dr Kaushal Jayendra Thaker and Gautam Chowdhary, observed, “Most unfortunate, aspect of this litigation is that the appeal was preferred through jail. The matter remained as a defective matter for a period of 16 years and, therefore, we normally do not mention defective appeal number, but we have mentioned the same. This defective conviction appeal was taken up as listing application was filed by the learned counsel appointed by Legal Services Authority on 6.12.2012 with a special mention that accused is in jail since 20 years.”

“We are pained to mention that even after 14 years of incarceration, the State did not think of exercising its power for commutation of sentence of life imprisonment of the present accused and it appears that power of Governor provided under Article 161 of the Constitution of India are also not exercised though there are restriction to such power to commute sentence… His case should have been considered but has not been considered…The factual scenario in the present case would show that had the Government thought of taking up the case of the accused as per jail manual, it would have been found that the case of the appellant was not so grave that it could not have been considered for remission / commutation,” the Allahabad High Court said.

The Court’s acquittal was based on the medical examination report which said that no sperm or injuries were found on the prosecutrix, who was five months pregnant at the time. Her testimony also indicated that she was not a ‘stellar witness’.

The Allahabad High Court noted, inter-alia, “In examination-in-chief he (father-in-law of the victim) states that the parties called for Panchayat but there is nothing on record that who were the persons called for Panchayat. If the pregnant lady carries fifth month pregnancy is thrashed forcefully on the ground, then there would have been some injury on her person but such injuries on her person are totally absent.“

According to NeoPolitico, the prosecution case had contended that the accused Vishnu, son of Rameshwar Tiwari, had raped her when she was on her way to the fields. He was also claimed to have threatened her with murder should she report the matter to the Police. The report says that the Court also observed that there was a land dispute between the two families.

“In our finding, the medical evidence goes to show that doctor did not find any sperm. The doctor categorically opined that no signs of forcible sexual intercourse were found. This was also based on the finding that there were no internal injuries on the lady who was a grown-up lady,” the Court observed. Consequently, his conviction was overturned.

Congress’ protest in Germany against Indian farm laws had Pakistani flag unfurled, says BJP

BJP Mumbai Spokesperson Suresh Nakhua has alleged that a Pakistani flag was unfurled at a protest against the Indian farm laws organised by the Indian Overseas Congress in Germany. The event in question was organised in the month of December 2020.

Suresh Nakhua had highlighted the name of Raj Sharma, who is allegedly an office-bearer of the Indian Overseas Congress. Nakhua had also said that the IOC had recently donated Rs. 1 crore to the ‘farmer protests’.

The IOC, for its part, claims that their members were not present when the Pakistani flag was unfurled and that they had left much before it. However, Nakhua claims to have video evidence of their participation which he says he will release soon.

The ‘farmer protests’ had provided an opportunity to India’s detractors across the globe to jump on the bandwagon to undermine Indian national interests and tarnish India’s reputation abroad.

The toolkit that was shared by Greta Thunberg had revealed the intricacies of the global campaign against India. Popstar Rihanna has made a tweet as well, which earned the endorsement of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a recent rally.

Khalistanis protest, raise abusive slogans outside Indian doctor’s house in California for supporting Indian farm laws

Khalistanis demonstrated and raised abusive slogans outside the house of an Indian doctor living in Fremont, California, USA, after the latter extended his support to the Indian government’s new farm laws. A video is doing the rounds on the microblogging site Twitter, where some Khalistanis are seen demonstrating outside the house of Dr Romesh Japra, a cardiologist and CEO at Pacific Cardiology Associates, California.

In the video, the separatists, baring the Khalistani flag, are heard raising derogatory slogans against the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr Japra.

Earlier, the NRIs of the San Francisco Bay Area organised a car rally on February 21, in support of the Government of India’s new Farm Laws.

On February 20, Dr Romesh Japra had requested his followers in Facebook to join a car rally to support the Farm Laws. Sharing details of the car rally in a Facebook post, Dr Japra wrote that being a farmer’s son, he was looking forward to joining the car rally to support the new farm laws in India.

Following this post, the Khalistani supporters reached Dr Japra’s house. These anti-India elements demonstrated outside his house, and raised abusive slogans against the doctor and Modi.

Farmers protest in India hijacked by Khalistanis

OpIndia has reported how Khalistani elements had infiltrated the Punjab farmer protest, which subsequently turned violent with the rioters unfurling multiple flags with Sikh religious symbol on the Red Fort on Republic Day. A week later, after popstar Rihanna and porn star Mia Khalifa along with international protestor Greta Thunberg voiced their support to protesting farmers, a bigger conspiracy to defame India on global platform backed by pro-Khalistan outfit Poetic Justice Foundation was revealed.

Khalistanis in California, USA, have also indulged in supporting and celebrating the violent farmer protests and had even broken Mahatma Gandhi statue.

‘You’ll become PM from CM’: Banned Khalistani outfit SFJ ‘counsels’ Bengal and Maharashtra CMs to declare independence from India

Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, head of banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice, has released a new video where he declared that he has urged West Bengal and Maharashtra to declare their independence. He claims that he has written a letter to Chief Ministers Uddhav Thackeray and Mamata Banerjee and “counselled” them to “unilaterally declare” independence of the two states from the Indian Union.

Pannu says, “The reason for the declaration of independence for West Bengal and Maharashtra is to safeguard the prosperity, the cultural and the linguistic identity of the Bengalis and the Marathis from the Indian hegemony which is threatening to create a homogeneous India.”

The Khalistani goes on to claim that since Thackeray and Banerjee are elected Chief Ministers, they have the power to “unilaterally” declare the two states independent. In a wild statement, Pannu says that such a secession will be backed by international law.

Continued Indian rule is resulting in the “econocide” in Maharashtra and West Bengal, he claims. According to Pannu, farmers are committing suicide in Maharashtra and West Bengal because of the ‘anti-MH’ and ‘anti-WB’ attitude of the Indian government.

The SFJ Chief attempts to convince Thackeray and Banerjee saying that they will be elevated to the position of Prime Minister of an independent nation from their current position as Chief Minister and to boost, they will be remembered in history as well. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu assures them that the SFJ will support them at the International Court of Justice like they supported Kosovo.

Canadian PM Trudeau and his cabinet avoid voting on motion terming China’s treatment of Uyghurs as ‘genocide’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has once again kept silent over the Chinese atrocities being committed on Uyghur Muslims by avoiding to vote in favour of a non-binding motion passed in the Canadian parliament on Monday. PM Trudeau and his cabinet abstained from voting after the opposition Conservative Party brought the motion saying that China’s treatment of the Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region constitutes ‘genocide’. Canada’s House of Commons voted 266-0 for the non-binding motion. The motion also reportedly called on the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing.

Canadian Foreign Minister called for a credible international investigation into allegations of genocide

There are 37 Liberal lawmakers including the Prime Minister himself in the Prime Minister’s cabinet. The Liberal Party has a total of 154 lawmakers in the House of Commons. While Trudeau and his cabinet abstained from voting, the rest of the Liberal lawmakers voted freely on the motion. According to reports, the Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau, who joined the cabinet in abstaining from vote, called for a credible international investigation in response to allegations of genocide. “We remain deeply disturbed by horrific reports of human rights violations in Xinjiang, including the use of arbitrary detention, political re-education, forced labour, torture and forced sterilisation”, Garneau was quoted as saying.

Justin Trudeau reluctant to term China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims as genocide

Canada’s Conservative Party had called for the House of Commons to declare that the Chinese government was committing genocide against the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang after the Canadian Prime Minister showed reluctance to term the Chinese atrocities on Uyghurs as ‘genocide’. After speaking to fellow G7 leaders, Trudeau had suggested that the best approach would be to seek broad consensus among Western allies on Chinese human rights issues. “Moving forward multilaterally will be the best way to demonstrate the solidarity of Western democracies…that are extremely concerned and dismayed by reports of what’s going on in Xinjiang”, the Canadian PM said.

Following Trudeau’s statement, Canadian Conservative Party leader Erin O’Toole said that Canada could not remain silent and thus help those committing crimes against humanity. “We cannot remain silent. Silence only helps those who commit crimes against humanity, never the victims”, O’Toole tweeted on February 19. O’Toole further added that Canada needed to send a clear and unequivocal signal that it would stand up for human rights even if that meant sacrificing some economic opportunities.

Some classified documents disclosed in December last year had revealed Trudeau’s dangerous China policy as the documents showed that Canada had invited the Chinese Army for cold-weather combat training despite opposition from the USA. It was also revealed that Trudeau was upset with the Canadian Armed Forces for cancelling the training after China kidnapped Canadian citizens Michael Sapvor and Michael Kovrig.

WhatsApp says users not accepting the new privacy policy will start to lose access from May 15: Report

0

Whatsapp has recently announced that it would continue with its privacy update but ‘not without providing necessary information to its users, a report published by India Today said. The popular messaging service found itself in hot water last month after it mandated its users to agree to its new terms of service and privacy policies that forced users to scour for its alternatives and migrate to other apps.

However, Whatsapp has remained unfazed by the criticism strewn on its way and is determined to roll out its new policy update on May 15. In an email correspondence with TechCrunch, Whatsapp admitted that it would gradually ask its users to accept the new terms of service “in order to have full functionality of WhatsApp” from May 15. In case users do not comply with the new policies, for a short duration, they would be able to receive calls and notification, but they won’t be able to read or send messages from the app, the company said. The short duration means the users will have limited access to Whatsapp for a time of a few weeks if they do not accept the updated policies.

Whatsapp faces backlash after privacy updates

Earlier last month, the popular instant messaging service Whatsapp kicked up a storm when it introduced a murky new set of privacy regulations mandatory for its users to accept or risk losing access to the app. The move sparked widespread criticism, with people slamming the Facebook-owned messaging service for making it compulsory for its users to accept the new privacy policies. Spooked by the public fallout, Whatsapp uploaded an anodyne post on its blog, reassuring people that their privacy is paramount and that a misinformation campaign is waged to tarnish its image. The messaging app also stated that the deadline to accept the new terms would be shifted to May 15.

Acknowledging the public backlash, Whatsapp took to its blog to assuage the mounting concerns of privacy among the public. “We’ve heard from so many people how much confusion there is around our recent update. There’s been a lot of misinformation causing concern and we want to help everyone understand our principles and the facts,” Whatsapp said in a blog.

Whatsapp to launch small banner on chat windows to educate users about privacy policy changes

Additionally, Whatsapp has also launched a new campaign to inform users about the new policies. Whatsapp will now have a small banner at the top of the chat window. The small banner will start appearing for users in a couple of weeks’ time. With the banner, Whatsapp will communicate to the users about the changes it made in its policies and how much information Whatsapp will collect. Unlike the previous occasion, users will be first given the choice to first review the policies and then accept them.

The small banners will appear on the top of the chat and in order to view them, users will to have to tap on the “Tap to review” option. Once the privacy policy update is rolled out, Whatsapp will keep reminding the users to read the new terms of service and then accept it.

On Saturday, the West Bengal police arrested a delivery boy and his aide from Bandel in Hooghly district of the State, accused of blackmailing and raping 66 women.

As per reports, the two accused have been identified as Vishal Verma and Suman. Vishal, who worked as a delivery boy for an e-commerce firm, tricked female customers (especially homemakers) into sharing their number under the pretext of taking feedback. He would then lure them into video calling him. Vishal used to take screenshots of the video call and blackmail them. The accused forced the women to come to his house, where he raped them.

Vishal has confessed to the police that he has raped 66 women so far. He would often extort money, ornaments from his victims. However, his modus operandi was exposed when a victim from Chinsurah registered a complaint with the police. She informed that the accused had delivered goods to her house two months ago. In one such video retrieved by the police from his phone, the accused was seen holding a victim hostage at gun-point.

The accused along with his friend Suman were produced before the local court on Sunday and sent to 5-day in police custody. Suman, a painter by profession, has been Vishal’s partner in crime on several occasions. Suman has been recently married and his family members have claimed to have been unaware of his crimes.
