Those fearing that Rahul Gandhi might be destroying the Congress his ancestors ‘built’, need not worry. Keeping Nehru’s legacy alive Congress has officially ‘given away’ part of Union Territory of Ladakh to Pakistan and China. On Tuesday, while attacking PM Modi regarding the new farm laws, Assam Congress’ official handle tweeted a distorted map of India.

INC Assam’s tweet

In a tweet, Assam Congress shared a map of India which was distorted such that part of Ladakh territory was missing. Thankfully, Assam Congress ‘gave away’ Ladakh only on paper unlike Nehru who let the Chinese take over Indian territory in Ladakh during the 1962 India-China war.

Assam Congress has now deleted this tweet.

Nehru’s Himalayan Blunder

Jawaharlal Nehru, while addressing the Parliament on 28 August 1959, had apprised everyone about the nefarious attempts of China on Indian soil. Informing the members on what China had been up to Nehru said, “There is a large area in eastern and north-eastern Ladakh which is practically uninhabited. It is mountainous, and even the valleys are at an altitude generally exceeding 13,000 feet. To some extent, shepherds use it during the summer months for grazing… The Government of India have some police check-posts in this area but, because of the difficulties of terrain, most of these posts are at some distance from the International Border.”

Speaking on the Chinese aggression, Nehru had said, “Some reports reached us between October 1957 and February 1958 that a Chinese detachment had crossed the international frontier and visited Khurnak Fort, which is within Indian territory. The attention of the Chinese Government was drawn to this, and they were asked to desist from entering our territory… there is no physical demarcation of the frontier in these mountainous passes, although our maps are quite clear on the subject. Thereafter, at the end of July 1959… a small Indian reconnaissance police party was sent to this area. When this party… was proceeding towards Khurnak Fort, it was apprehended, some miles from the border inside our territory, by a stronger Chinese detachment. This happened on July 28.”

“…the Chinese claimed that that part of the territory was theirs, but added that they would release the persons who had been apprehended. We sent a further Note to them expressing surprise at this claim and giving them the exact delineation of the traditional international frontier in this sector… No reply has yet been received to this Note. Our party was released on August 18.”

Three days later, Nehru informed that the Chinese had built a road through Aksai Chin. “According to an announcement made in China, the Yehcheng-Gartok Road, which is also called the Sinkiang-Tibet Highway, was completed in September 1957… Two reconnaissance parties were accordingly sent last year. One of these parties was taken into custody by a superior Chinese detachment. The other returned and gave us some rough indication of this newly constructed road in the Aksai Chin area,” he told the Rajya Sabha.

In the 1962 India-China war, India faced a rather humiliating defeat. After India’s independence from the British, Nehru’s “forward policy” in September 1962 tried to force the Chinese out of territory it claimed as its own. Nehru announced on October 11 that the Indian Army had been ordered to “free our territory.” That’s how the war began with China reacting to the situation.

Nehru at that time was away from India. The Chinese attacked simultaneously on the Ladakh area and NEFA, India bordering China on the Tibetan side. The Chinese managed to capture 11,000 km² of area in Aksai Chin and substantial area in NEFA. 

Without basic protective gear to fight in the extreme weather conditions, the Indian Army was not prepared to go to war with China. Despite economic hardships, China quickly managed to overpower our troops. In his book Himalayan Blunder, a war memoir, Brigadier John Dalvi writes how China had planned the attack while maintaining a different position on war officially. Congress and map distortion

This is not the first time official Congress leaders and party accounts have shared distorted image of Indian map. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has regularly indulged in sharing wrong maps of India. In December last year, while protesting against the new citizenship law which fast-tracked Indian citizenship for persecuted religious minorities in three neighbouring Islamic countries, Tharoor had shared a map where part of Ladakh was missing.

Just two months prior, he had shared another map of India which categorically excluded part of Ladakh, given away to Pakistan and China.

Congress leaders have also been found parroting Pakistan’s line while questioning territorial integrity of India.

Indian Air Force objects to Anil Kapoor starter Netflix film over foul language, derogatory portrayal of a uniformed officer

The Indian Air Force has objected to the upcoming Netflix film AK vs AK over the inappropriate portrayal of its uniform. On December 7, actor Anil Kapoor had tweeted the trailer of his upcoming movie AK vs AK in which director Anurag Kashyap is also playing a role. In the trailer, Kapoor was seen donning an Air Force officer’s uniform in a few scenes. While being in the uniform, Kapoor was seen using foul language, inappropriate and in violation of IAF’s behavioural standards.

IAF, on December 9, quoted Anil Kapoor’s tweet with a trailer and objected to the content. They said, “The IAF uniform in this video is inaccurately donned and the language used is inappropriate. This does not conform to the behavioural norms of those in the Armed Forces of India. The related scenes need to be withdrawn.”

Before IAF noticed the trailer and the wrong depiction of the uniform and the officer, several former IAF officers and armed forces veterans had objected to the content on social media. Anil Chopra, Retd Air Marshal, Indian Air Force, had quoted Anil Kapoor on December 8 and said, “An Air Commodore of IAF speaking such language in uniform. Badly depicted.”

Sqn Ldr Sivamohan Vinod Kumar (Retd) quoted Kapoor and called the trailer filthy. He said, “This is the best these gutters can come up with. Don’t even want to comment and legitimise this filth.”

MJ Augustine Vinod, Group Capt(Retd), IAF, said that the depiction is disrespectful and must be corrected immediately. He said, “This is disrespect to IAF’s uniform. Ask @bindasbhidu he could educate, he comes from IAF family. Correct it asap.”

Retired Maj Gen. Harsha Kakar called it a worthless piece of crap. He said, “What crap are you producing @AnilKapoor. Unshaven, gutter language and an untucked shirt. Are you projecting the respected Indian Air Force or degrading it. Is this your level of understanding the armed forces? You have produced a worthless piece of crap.”

Netflix and its history of controversies

This is not the first time Netflix has received criticism in India. Indian Air Force had previously objected to the content in the movie on air force officer Gunjan Saxena. The IAF wrote a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objecting to the “undue negative portrayal” of the Air Force personnel. In the movie, the protagonist, played by Jhanvi Kapoor was seen being bullied and insulted for being a woman by uniformed officers.

Farmer leaders to consider government proposal today after the 6th round of talks were cancelled due to their refusal to participate

After a meeting was held between farmer representatives and the Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday, the 6th round of talks that were to be held today has been cancelled, reportedly after the farmer leaders refused to participate. The Home Minister had met a group of union leaders including Hannan Mollah of All India Kisan Sabha and Rakesh Tikait of Bharatiya Kisan Union but the meeting failed to break the deadlock.

The Home Minister had offered to amend some of the provisions of the farmer laws in writing but some of the farm representatives had reportedly refused to attend the 6th round of talks saying that they would take further action after reading government’s written proposal. The government has agreed to make specific amendments in the farm laws but the farmers are demanding a total repeal of all the three laws.

On December 5, Agriculture Minister Narender Singh Tomar had assured the 40 farmers union which are protesting against the farm laws that the government was prepared to consider ways to strengthen the APMC mandis, create a level-playing field with proposed private markets and provide a provision for approaching higher courts for dispute resolution. The government had also asserted that procurement at MSP will continue. But the agitating farmer union leaders were bent upon getting the laws scrapped. However, some progressive farmers from Haryana had submitted a memorandum to the government on December 7 demanding that the government should consider amendments instead of repealing the laws.

The government is expected to send written proposals to farmer union leaders today for consideration. Hannan Mollah said that they will only consider the proposal if is about repealing the laws and the their stand was clear on amendments. “They (government) said they will send something in writing today. We have told them that if it is in writing, we will look into it. We have our meeting today. A broader committee will discuss it. It the writing is on amendment, our position is very clear. It it’s on repeal of the Bill, only then can we take note of it and consider. That meeting (today’s meeting with Centre) is cancelled. If the letter comes and we consider it positive, meeting can be held tomorrow”, said Mollah.

Government proposal to farmers

The proposal sent by the government for the consideration of farmers include following points:

  1. MSP will not end, the government will continue with MSP.
  2. There will be a major change in the APMC Act.
  3. Private players will have to register.
  4. Government will provide farmers the right to approach court in contract farming. Fast track courts will be formed for that purpose.
  5. Approval to tax private players.

The proposal is likely to be considered by farmer representatives in a meeting fixed for noon today. Meanwhile, the farmers are continuing with their agitation against the farm laws.

Petition filed in Delhi Court seeking restoration of Hindu and Jain temples in Qutub Minar complex

After the landmark judgment in the Ayodhya Dispute which handed over the right to Hindus to build a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and with a legal battle ensuing in Kashi-Mathura, a lawsuit has been filed in national capital Delhi, seeking ‘right to worship’ at Delhi’s iconic Qutub Minar. 

The case filed at Delhi’s Saket Court seeks restoration of Hindu and Jain deities and the right to worship them within the temple complex situated inside the Qutub Minar at Mehrauli.

The petition prayed for the declaration of principal deity Tirthankar Lord Rishabh Dev and principal deity Lord Vishnu, along with Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Gauri, God Surya, Lord Hanuman, including presiding deities of 27 temples who have the right to be restored and worshipped with proper rites and rituals, performance of regular pooja within the temple complex situated in the area of Qutub Minar complex. 

According to news agency PTI, the matter came up for hearing before Civil Judge Neha Sharma, who fixed the next date of hearing on December 24.

Qutubudin Aibak destroyed Hindu and Jain temples, along with their deities: petition

“Qutubdin Aibak, a commander of Mohammed Gauri dismantled/ destroyed Shree Vishnu Hari temple and 27 Jain and Hindu temples along with constellations of respective deities and raised some inner constructions within the temple complex,” the plea said. 

The petition further stated that Qutubdin Aibak did not completely demolish the existing temples and build Quwwatul Islam Masjid by using materials from the temples, adding that there are still pictures of Hindu gods and deities like Ganesh, Vishnu, Yaksha and symbols like Kalash, temple wells and sacred lotus in the mosque.

“Only the faces of gods and deities are defaced, the rest of the sculptures are identifiable. The corridor is completely of Vedic style having rectangular galleries with holy symbol engraved pillars,” the petitioner said.

Petitioner demands the court to create a trust to hand over the management and administration

The petitioner has sought a mandatory injunction directing the Central government to create a trust, according to the Trust Act, 1882, and hand over the management and administration of the temple complex situated within the area of Qutub complex.

“Decree be passed in the nature of mandatory injunction, directing the Trust, to be created by Central government, to manage the affairs of 27 Hindu and Jain temples with iron pillar, in accordance with the scheme of administration framed by the Central government,” the petition said.

The litigant also sought a decree to be passed in the nature of permanent injunction, restraining the defendants permanently from interfering in making necessary repair works, raising construction and making arrangement for pooja, darshan and worship of deities.

Jammu and Kashmir: Security forces eliminate three Islamist terrorists of Al-Badr in Tiken, Pulwama

The Jammu and Kashmir police have encountered three local Islamic terrorists in the Tiken, Pulwama. According to the reports, the terrorists killed in the Pulwama encounter were part of the Al-Badr outfit, IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said.

All three terrorists are local youths. The encounter began on early Wednesday morning after J&K police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles launched a joint search operation in the Tiken area after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists.

As the forces closed in, the terrorists fired upon them. After the forces came under fire, they retaliated killing three terrorists. During the encounter, a civilian was hit by a bullet. He was rushed to the hospital immediately.

Talking about the encounter, IGP Vijay Kumar said, “one civilian was shot at his leg when terrorists opened fire. He is stable. Three terrorists have been killed. They were local terrorists and affiliated with Al-Badre. We are searching the area to ensure there is no old/unused grenade left,”

Al-Badr is an Islamic terrorist group, sponsored by Pakistan to inflict terror in Kashmir region. The group was formed by the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence in the late 90s with the support of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.

A video has gone viral on social media where a Sardarji, Kuldip Singh Kaler, is listing out products Gujarat gives to the country and world, making the enterprising state very ‘atmanirbhar’. The video, released in May this year after PM Modi’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat, is being shared on various social media platforms.

“From Jasuben’s pizza and tea of Tea Post, let me introduce you to Atmanirbhar Gujarat,” he says in crisp, clear Gujarati. Ahead of 2014 General Elections, the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had made Jasuben’s pizza a household name as he spoke about women entrepreneurs at a FICCI meet.

Kaler then proceeds to give a long list of everyday products either made by Gujaratis or made in Gujarat most of which you might have most likely heard.

“Where was world’s cheapest car manufactured? In Ahmedabad. Where was the world’s cheapest ventilator made? In Rajkot. So, now where should we buy things from? Cold drink from Sosyo, biscuit from Parle, sherbet from Rasna, spices from Ramdev, LED from Orpat, fans from Symphony, milk from AMUL, flour from local mill, soap from Nirma, ceramic from Morbi, Saree from Surat and machines from Rajkot. Clothes from Arvind and Vimal and medicines from Zydus and Cadila. Snacks from Jagdish and Balaji, dabeli (Gujarati snack) from Karnavati and burger from Jai Bhavani (local stores). Vessels from Odhav and jewellery from Bagasra (localities in Gujarat specialising in these products) and finally autorickshaws from Atul,” he says.

Sosyo, one of India’s oldest aerated drinks was a product of Swadeshi movement call by Mahatma Gandhi and originated in Surat. Similarly, cooperative dairy Amul brought about a milk revolution in Gujarat and India. Everyday brands like Ramdev spices, Arvind and Nirma also have their roots firmly in Gujarat.

Kaler then says that when the government announced economic package for boosting economy in middle of Chinese coronavirus pandemic, a Gujarati would never think that what can I get. “A Gujarati will always think what he could give back,” he says. One Gujarati brought together India that was divided into various princely states, he says referring to Sardar Patel, the Iron Man of India. “If these 6 crore Gujaratis make up their mind, India will get back on its feet within days,” he said.

Ahead of the eighth anniversary of the Nirbhaya case and on the occasion of Sonia Gandhi’s 74th birthday, it is important to revisit Congress party’s lackadaisical approach in implementing a harsh rape-related legal framework to deter growing incidents of rapes in the country. 

In the aftermath of the gruesome Nirbhaya case that shook the nation’s conscience towards the safety and security of her women population, the Congress-led UPA-II government formed a three-member team headed by CJI Verma(retd) to examine and suggest changes to the legal framework that would help in clamping down the surging rape incidents. The report was submitted by the committee on January 23, 2013. 

Congress representative visits Justice Verma’s residence late in midnight

In an interview with the Indian Express, Justice Verma revealed that a Congress member came to his house past midnight on January 5, insisting on personally handing over the party’s suggestions to the committee to him. The man was reportedly sent by Janardhan Dwivedi. 

Justice Verma summarily refused to accept the letter and asked the Congress member to either leave the letter at the gate or deliver it the next day at the committee’s office at Vigyan Bhawan. 

Naturally, the flippant behaviour of the representative of a national political party raised the hackles of the former Chief Justice. He brought the incident to the notice of a senior Congress leader and expressed his disapproval to him. 

Following this incident, Sonia Gandhi called Justice Verma and personally apologised for the misbehaviour of her party’s representative. 

Sushil Kumar Shinde did not bother to receive the committee report: Justice Verma

The former CJI had also revealed that the then Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who had appointed the committee, didn’t for once interact with the committee. The Congress party was so unconcerned about the committee’s report that neither Sushil Kumar Shinde nor Union Home Secretary R K Singh was present to accept the report. Instead, the report was accepted by the Joint Secretary in the ministry.

West Bengal: Land attached to Omkarnath Matha encroached in Tarakeshwar, builders threaten Matha chief

The Omkarnath Matha at Tarakeshwar in West Bengal has been facing threats of massive land encroachment from the real estate mafia in the state. Recently, the head of the maṭha was threatened by builders for protesting against the land encroachment.

According to the reports, Tridondi Swami Keshav Ramanuj Jiyur Maharaj ji, the head of Omkarnath Matha has lodged a written complaint at Tarakeshwar police station after he received threats from a builder recently after he questioned the encroachment of temple’s land.

Recently, land adjacent to Matha’s premises was purchased by a local promoter. The land which is located near Joy Krishna Bazar, Tarakeshwar, did not have an approach road. The builder began to create a road through the Matha premises by filling the marshy land belonging to Matha with a JCB, resulting in an argument between two sides. As Swami Maharaji protested against encroachment, he was threatened and abused.

Boundary wall of the matha has also been demolished in the past

In 2017, the boundary wall of the maṭha was also demolished during the construction of a multi-storied building. A court case in connection with the incident is currently in the court.

Reportedly, Swami Keshav Ramanuj Jiyur Maharaj ji, who is the head of the maṭha is also being mentally harassed by local goons. They have threatened him with dire consequences. He has also lodged a complaint at the local police station as he had no other option.

Following threats by the real estate mafia in the state, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) along with other Hindu organisations are trying to contact the maṭha authority to offer support.

Sushant Singh Rajput Case: Peddler Regel Mahakal who sold drugs to Rhea Chakraborty arrested with hashish worth Rs 2.5 crores

On December 9, the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested Regel Mahakal, the drug peddler who had been absconding. He was accused of supplying drugs to actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik. Regel will be produced in court on Wednesday. Regel accused of supply drugs to Anuj Keshwani, who further distributed the drugs to others.

NCB has conducted a raid in Lokhandwala, Mumbai and seized cash and a huge cache of high-quality ‘Malana cream’, that is considered the purest form of hashish. The value of the seized drug is estimated at about Rs 2.5 crores. Earlier, NCB had arrested Anuj Keshwani in connection with the drug case. Keshwani, an alleged drug peddler, was arrested after another peddler Kaizan Ebrahim had disclosed his name. Apart from Rhea and Showik, Abdul Basit, Zaid Vilatra, Dipesh Sawant, and Samuel Miranda were also arrested by NCB.

As per the latest reports by ANI, Mahakal was taken first for a medical test. Later the Esplanade court has sent him to 2-day NCB custody.

Sushant Singh Rajput case

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence on June 14, 2020. His case took several twists and turns, after which NCB also filed a case after evidence of drug abuse was found by the investigation agencies. NCB arrested actress Rhea Chakraborty, former girlfriend of Rajput, and her brother Showik Chakraborty in the case. While Rhea was granted bail on October 7, Showik was only able to come out of the jail on bail on December 2. CBI and ED are also investigating the case in their own capacity.

On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, the Congress party, which is often seen as the embodiment of corruption in the country, took to Twitter to preach the rest of country about the ill effects of corruption.

The Congress party that is accused of dozens of scams in the several decades of their reign on India, put out a message saying that corruption is immoral and a betrayal of the people’s trust. Calling corruption was a social evil, the Congress party also added that we all must stand together and fight against it.

Following Congress party’s moral lectures on social media on corruption, netizens reminded the Congress of their own track record.

Reacting to the tweet put out by the Congress party, another user named Mallikarjuna said that the German Nazi army should get Nobel Peace Prize in the same way that the Congress should get Noble Anti-Corruption Prize.

In mother of all ironies, today is also former Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s birthday, under whose leadership, the UPA government led by Congress from 2004 to 2014 presided over some of the biggest corruption scams in the history of independent India.

Various social media users took to Twitter to highlight the amusing irony of the day. BJP leader and former governor Tathagata Roy has also joined in.

Similarly, another user also pointed out the paradox of the International Anti-Corruption Day and Sonia Gandhi’s birthday being celebrated on the same day.

Rosy, another prominent social media user, also said how the world was already celebrating her birth day of Sonia Gandhi on the Anti-Corruption day.

It is pertinent to note that the Congress party during its rule in the last seventy years has allowed monumental scams that have resulted in the loss of several lakhs of crores to the public exchequer. The party, on its own as well as with its allies, has been accused of a host of scams including the Jeep scam, 2G scam, Bofors, AgustaWestland helicopter scam, Scorpene submarine scam, Maharashtra irrigation, Commonwealth Games scam, Adarsh Housing Society scam, Coal scams and many more.

Earlier on Tuesday, the interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi had decided to make ‘great sacrifices’ in order to demonstrate her self-proclaimed unparalleled devotion towards the farmers of the country. The interim party president has announced that she will not be celebrating her birthday on the 9th of December in light of the ongoing protests against the newly passed farm bills and the Coronavirus pandemic. The Congress president is currently holidaying in Goa.
