In the ongoing attack on Republic TV by Mumbai Police, now the police have set its target on the media buying agencies that place ad in the channel, in an attempt to financially cripple the channel. The first target of Param Bir Singh led Mumbai police is Hansa Vision, a such media buying agency.

The reason for police to target Hansa Vision is that its group company Hansa Research managers the Bar-O-Meters of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), which measures the viewership of TV channels. According to Mumbai police, Hansa Research or associate companies can’t do any business dealings with any TV channel. A Mumbai police officer on Friday claimed that under general business ethics and guidelines issued by the Union government, Hansa Research or its associate companies cannot engage in business with any TV channel.

This claim by Mumbai police raises several questions, as it is not clear whether such condition is placed by the guidelines issues by the central govt. Hansa Research and Hansa Vision is completely separate entities, while the former can’t do dealings with TV channels as it works with BARC to manage the Bar-O-Meters, the later is a media buying agency, which means its primary businesses is to deal with TYV channels. If such a rule existed, the company should not exist at all.

The second and more important point is, if Hansa Vision is not allowed to deal with TV channels, why Mumbai police is targeting only Republic in the matter. The company itself has said that they do dealings with 55 TV channels. A statement issued by Hansa group CEO Shekar Swamy had said, “In the past two years, as part of its business, Hansa Vision has purchased TV advertising time from 55 TV channels for a total value of Rs 13.42 crs on behalf of its clients. In 2019 and 2020, Hansa Vision has not bought any advertising time from Republic TV.”

Therefore, Mumbai police should be questioning all those 55 channels if the dealings are illegal, but there is no such sign, they are only questioning Republic.

Hansa Vision has published its financial statements showing that it bought ad slots on Republic in 2017-18 and 2018-19, and made payments to the TV network as per normal business practice. The company has not bought any slot in the network after that, while it remains in business buying ad slots in other TV channels, and making payments for the same.

“Hansa Vision purchases advertising time from Television Channels, advertising space from publications on behalf of its clients,” a statement issued by Hansa Vision had said.

Hansa Research had also placed the same fact, that its group company Hansa Vision buys ad spots in TV channels, and it does not do any such dealings. In fact, both Hansa Research and Republic Network had said that Hansa Vision had paid Rs 108 Lakh to Republic for buying ad spots, much more than Rs 32 Lakh claimed by Mumbai Police. Republic had also published the audited financial statements in support of this fact.

Now if indeed it is true that Hansa vision, being a group company of Hansa group, can’t do dealings with TV channels, then it would mean that the entire business of the company is illegal. Now it remains to be seen whether Mumbai police bring all other 54 TV channels under probe for this ‘illegal’ business with Hansa Vision.

On Thursday, social media platform Facebook removed three ‘Love Jihad’ groups for violating their community guidelines, reported Times of India. ‘Love Jihad’ refers to a well-thought-out strategy of religious proliferation wherein Muslim men entrap women of a different faith (particularly Hindus) under the pretext of love and marriage.

As per the report, the action of Facebook against the said groups comes after Times of India sent a questionnaire containing specific details about the pages to the social media giant. The said groups were allegedly involved in sharing hate speech, adult nudity, and revealing personal contact information of inter-faith couples.

Facebook groups had asked Hindus to be wary of Jihadi men

Times of India reported that one such ‘Love Jihad’ group with 18000 members would regularly post ‘guidelines’ asking parents to remain vigilant about their daughters’ university timings and their phone calls, in case her friend is from a ‘minority’ community.

The newspaper also reported about another group, which warned Hindus to remain wary of ‘jihadi’ men. The group has now been deleted by Facebook. Other groups also called for an economic boycott of those who tend to deceitfully convert the religion of a Hindu girl under the pretext of marriage.

Facebook responds to Times of India

While responding to the questionnaire sent by Times of India to Facebook, a spokesperson informed, “We have clear policies against hate speech and remove hateful content that targets anyone based on their religion, nationality, ethnicity or caste. We have made significant investments to keep hate off our platforms.”

There has been an overall surge in the number of ‘Love Jihad’ cases. On Monday, 21-year-old Nikita Tomar was shot to death in broad daylight by Touseef after she repeatedly turned down his advances. He had allegedly repeatedly asked her to convert to Islam as well. The shocking incident was caught on camera, visuals of which have now gone viral. Touseef and his accomplice Rehan were arrested.

Earlier, an e-rickshaw driver named Dildar Qureshi entrapped a 13-year-old Hindu girl in a love affair posing as a Hindu. He then eloped with the minor on October 18. When the family of the minor Hindu girl came to know about the incident they lodged a complaint against the Muslim youth.

Mewat, the Muslim-dominated district in Haryana, has hogged the limelight after the news of the brutal murder of Nikita Tomar by one Tauseef, belonging to an influential family of Congress politicians, from the district came to the fore. Now, another incident of abduction and alleged forced conversion of a Hindu nurse has been reported from Nuh in Mewat, Haryana.

The father of a nurse has lodged a complaint at the Bichhor police station against a man identified as Muhammad Iqbal, a resident of Neemka village. Om Prakash, the father of the woman, alleged that Iqbal, who was stalking his daughter for the last six months and pressuring her to convert and marry him, abducted her as she refused to submit to his demands.

Om Prakash, a resident of Mahindergarh, complained to the police on Thursday that his 24-year-old daughter was kidnapped from her workplace on October 26 and that her mobile was found to be switched off since the incident. He alleged that his daughter had told him last month that the suspect was stalking her and forcing her to convert and marry him.

Relevant sections of the IPC and SC/ST Act invoked for abducting and threatening the Nuh nurse

Based on the complaint a case has been registered and the 27-year-old Muhammad Iqbal, who works as an advocate, has been booked under sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 365 (kidnapping), 506 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and threatening a woman employed as a nurse at a primary health centre at Singar village in Nuh’s Punhana, earlier this week, since the Nurse was a Dalit.

Om Prakash, the father of the woman, said that when his daughter had visited them last month she appeared scared and stressed. She had asked him to speak to the police as she claimed that Iqbal was stalking her and was threatening her to marry him. “The man was forcing her to convert and marry him. She has been refusing his moves for the last six months but he often intercepted her way and forced her to speak to him,” he said.

Meanwhile, the additional station house officer (SHO) of Bichhor police station- Attar Singh said on Friday that they had conducted raids at suspected locations but were yet to recover the victim and the suspect. “We had gone to the village of the suspect. However, his father told us that although his son had come with a woman, they both left after staying in the village for a day. He has no idea where they have gone. We have taken the records of the call details of the suspect and the victim and are scanning them to get some leads in the case,” he said.

According to Hindi daily Amar Ujala, the couple were in love with each other and had solemnised a court marriage in Rajasthan HC on October 13.

Meanwhile, the Nuh police said that the last location of the two were in Nuh. However, since October 27, their mobile phones have been switched off.

Nuh police trying to crack the case

Singh said they were questioning the staff members of the hospital and villagers to know the exact details of the abduction and if the woman was held hostage in the village before the suspect shifted her to another location. “We will add more sections once we record the victim’s statement. Based on her statement, it will become clear whether the suspect stalked her and forced her to convert,” he said.

The SHO conformed that a six member team has been constituted to conduct the investigation into the case. He furthered that nine family members of Muhammad Iqbal have been interrogated until now and the police are also tracking their call details to trace the suspect, if he ever tries to contact them.

The Allahabad High Court, in its latest judgment, has dismissed the writ petition of an interfaith marriage couple who asked for police protection and for the court to intervene and direct their families to stop interfering in their married life. While hearing a case, a single-judge bench of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi observed that religious conversion just for the sake of marriage is illegal. Saying so the court dismissed the plea made by the newly married couple.  

The decision came after the Court noted that the girl was a Muslim by birth and she has converted her religion to Hinduism, just a month before the marriage was solemnized. This clearly reveals that the conversion has taken place only for the purpose of marriage, said Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi told the petitioner Priyanshi alias Samreen and her partner.

Referring to the case Noor Jahan Begum @Anjali Mishra & Anr. v. State of U.P. & Ors(2014), in which it was observed that conversion for the sole purpose of marriage could not be accepted, the court rejected the petition saying that it cannot be entertained under Article 226 of the Constitution of India.

In 2014, the Allahabad High Court had rejected the petition in the case of Noor Jahan Begum pleading to provide protection to the married couple as the girl was a Hindu in the case and married after converting to Islam. The issue then was whether the conversion of a Hindu girl only for getting married to a Muslim boy that too when she doesn’t know anything about Islam, can be considered valid? The High Court dismissed the petitions stating them as invalid.

The court also referred to a judgement passed by the Supreme Court in Lily Thomas vs. Union of India case where the apex court had observed that the conversion of religion can be held valid only if the religion is adapted with full faith and not just for the purpose of achieving something.

“Conversion of a person to Islam can only be considered bona fide if he/ she is of sound mind and major and is ready to embrace Islam by his/ her free consent and the faith which he/she holds in Allah or Prophet Muhammad. If the conversion is only to claim rights or to avoid marriage or achieve some selfish motive and nothing inspired by religious feelings, the conversion can’t be said as a bona fide. Conversion is valid only if it involves honesty and heart to accept the new religion and leaving behind the original religion,” the SC had observed.

On Sunday, a third-year Zoology student, Tithy Sarker, of the Jagannath University (JnU) in Dhaka in Bangladesh, went missing after she allegedly made derogatory remarks against Islam and Prophet Muhammad. She was earlier suspended from her university on October 23 for hurting religious sentiments.

Tithi Sarkar is a student of Zoology department of the University, is also the convenor of World Hindu Struggle Council, JnU unit and office secretary of Students Protection Council, JnU unit. 

According to reports, she was on her way to the police station and then, was going to go visit a Durga Puja Mandap. Ever since then, she has been missing, Dhaka Tribune quoted her parents as saying. They have also claimed that since she went missing, her phone has also been switched off and she is completely untraceable.

Hindu girl suspended from the university in Bangladesh: How it all started

The allegedly blasphemous post criticising Islam and Prophet Muhammad had gone viral on social media. Following social media outrage, she was issued a temporary suspension order for 10 days and was asked to explain reasons for not expelling her permanently. “Jagannath University student of Zoology (3rd year), Tithy Sarkar, with roll B- 170604057, mocked Prophet Muhammad on social media platform Facebook and thereby hurt religious sentiments. As per University laws, 2005 wef Section 11 (10), you are suspended from the university until further notice. You should explain within 10 days as to why you should not be permanently expelled,” the suspension order read.

JnU registrar Wahiduzzaman informed, “A four-member committee led by Prof AKM Moniruzzaman, dean of business studies faculty and also a syndicate member of the university, was formed the same day to investigate the matter.” Tithy was also dropped from her the post of officer secretary of the JnU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.

Girl goes missing, after filing police complaint about hacked FB account

As per reports, Tithy lived in a mess near the JnU premises but had been residing at Utta Kalshi of Pallabi, following the Coronavirus pandemic. She went to the Pallabi police station on Sunday morning and was then supposed to visit the nearby Durga Puja mandap, but did not return home since then. Kazi Wazed Ali, the station-in-charge, informed that the search for Tithy was underway and added that the girl had come to the police station on Sunday to file a complaint about her Facebook account being hacked.

She had made it clear to the police that the objectionable comments were made by an unidentified hacker using her account. The girl has been untraceable for the past 6 days. A complaint was filed by Smriti Rani Sarker, the sister of Tithy, with the Pallabi police station.

Following her going missing, some activists from Bangladesh have also raised questions about her whereabouts.

SI Tariur Rahman Shuvo informed, “We went to Tithy’s house on October 24 to give her GD-related information that she filed on October 23, claiming her Facebook account was hacked. We have already informed the higher authorities about the situation.” Meanwhile, Smriti informed that her father’s health had become worse and had to be hospitalised. “We do not blame anyone behind my sister’s missing. We are requesting the government and the authorities concerned for my sister’s safe return,” she stated.

Tauseef, the accused who brutally shot dead Hindu girl Nikita Tomar in Mewat, revealed that he was inspired by online web series ‘Mirzapur’ where the lead actor is shown murdering a girl for rejecting his proposal, reports Dainik Jagran.

According to the report published in Dainik Jagran, during the interrogation, the accused Tauseef confessed to the police officials that he was inspired by the character of ‘Munna’ in the Mirzapur web series. The accused said that he decided to kill Nikita Tomar after watching the web series, where the character ‘Munna’ shoots and kills a girl for rejecting his relationship proposal.

Jagran says that during Tauseef’s interrogation by the Crime Branch, he said that at the time, he could not really understand what he should do about Nikita and her rejection of his proposal, however, after watching the newly released web series Mirzapur, he decided to kill her, much like the character in the series.

Other important revelations have reportedly also been made during his interrogation. It has been revealed that the maternal uncle of the accused Tauseef had provided him with a country pistol to him to carry out the fatal attack against Nikita Tomar. The maternal uncle Islamuddin, who is a notorious criminal himself and currently in jail, had arranged a pistol for Tauseef from inside the jail. In 2018, Islamuddin was convicted and sentenced for 10 years after he was convicted for kidnapping a police officer.

Murder of Nikita Tomar

The terrifying incident of murder after Nikita refused to accept Tauseef’s advancements and demands for conversion to Islam came to the fore after the blood-curdling murder of a 21-year-old student named Nikita Tomar in Mewat. Nikita was shot dead in broad daylight by two men outside the Aggarwal college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad earlier this week.

One of the two accused, Tauseef had been repeatedly harassing her and making advances at Nikita. She had filed a complaint of molestation and harassment against Tauseef last month, however, a compromise was reached later.

Shockingly, the entire incident was caught on camera, visuals of which had gone instantly viral in the aftermath of the brutal killing. Tauseef and his accomplice Rehan were arrested by the police. It is also pertinent to note that the accused had also abducted another girl in 2018.

Amidst the terror attacks in France and global call of Muslims to boycott French products over the Charlie Hebdo row, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Farhan Zuberi justifies beheading of individuals who dares to dishonour Prophet Muhammad, on Live TV. According to his Twitter bio, Farhan Zuberi is a Cabinet member of Aligarh Muslim University Student Union (AMUSU).

In a video posted by Zuberi on Twitter on October 29, he could be seen giving open threats of murder, if anyone is found disrespecting Prophet Muhammad, during a public rally. Zuberi said, “If anyone commits blasphemy, we will behead him. The foundation of Islam is based on the Kalma (la ila ilalla..muhammad rasoolullah). If anyone does wrong to our Creator, then we will not tolerate this. French President says that the (Charlie Hebdo) cartoons, which were projected on buildings in public view, was freedom of expression.”

Farhan Zuberi was invited as a panel guest during a debate on Times Now over his outrageous remarks. On being asked about his audacity to make calls for beheading in public, he justifies his remark saying, “Absolutely. How can someone dare to disrespect our Prophet? Why should anyone do this?”.

Farhan says, “Bilkul, kya karega koi gustakhi” (Absolutely, why will anyone insult the Prophet), thereby justifying and standing by his call to behead anyone who insults Islam.

Zuberi was eventually snubbed by the anchor. “This is their country… They will make rules for them. Why are you spreading hate in India,” she emphasised.

The beheading case in France

A 46-year-old history teacher, Samuel Paty was beheaded on October 16 by 18-year-old radical Islamist named Abdoullakh Abouyezidovitch A in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine for showcasing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad to his students at College du Bois d’Aulne. The terrorist had uploaded the gory pictures of the murder on Twitter, before being shot dead by the French police. It has come to light now that the gruesome attack was the result of doxxing and vitriolic online campaign, led by the father of a 13-year old student of the deceased and the local mosque.

After receiving severe condemnation over his remarks asserting that Muslims had the right to kill millions of French people, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday defended his obnoxious comments by claiming that his tweets asking for the massacre of French people on Twitter was taken out of context.

On Thursday, Mahathir Mohamad had taken to Twitter to spew venom against France claiming that Muslims had the right to kill millions of French people. In his tweets, Mohamad had justified the killing of the French people saying that “angry people kill” because the French “in the course of history have killed millions of people”.

The 95-year-old former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday clarified on his earlier tweets that had sparked massive outrage across the world.

“I am indeed disgusted with attempts to misrepresent and take out of context what I wrote on my blog,” Mahathir said his statement.

Mahathir Mohamad claimed that his critics failed to read his posting in full, especially the next tweet which read, “But by and large Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. The French shouldn’t. Instead the French should teach their people to respect other people’s feelings.”

Mahathir claimed that because of the spin and out of context presentation, his tweets were reported accusing him of promoting violence on Facebook and Twitter.

Attacking Twitter and Facebook for removing his hate speech, Mahathir lamented that his posts were removed despite his explanation and slammed the move as hypocritical.

Mahathir, after inciting genocide against the French also proceeded to play victim.

He tweeted, “But that is what freedom of speech is to them. On the one hand, they defended those who chose to display offending caricatures of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. and expect all Muslims to swallow it in the name of freedom of speech and expression”.

Even while playing victim and blaming Twitter, Mahathir was rather adamant that drawing caricatures does not fall under freedom of expression, however, perhaps his reaction to it does. He alleged that Muslims are expected to “swallow” the caricatures in the name of freedom of speech, while his tweet was deleted by Twitter.

The comments by Mahathir came as a response after the three terror attacks that were carried by Islamic terrorists on French people in Nice on Friday.

An Islamic terrorist had killed three people, cutting the throat of at least one woman, inside a church in Nice on the French Riviera on Friday. The brutal attack had come only weeks after another Islamic terrorist had beheaded a French teacher outside his in Paris for showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to his students during a lesson on freedom of speech.

Following the outrage over Mahathir’s hate speech against French people, social networking platform Twitter on Thursday removed his tweet for violating its rules banning the glorification of violence.

India successfully test-fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi-30, hits target 4000 km away from the staring airbase

Indian Air Force has carried out yet another successful test firing of air-launched BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft. The BrahMos missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was launched to target a ship in the Bay of Bengal around 4000 km away. It was the longest-range test of the fighter-missile combo conducted by Indian Air Force.

The Sukhoi-30 MKI took off from Halwara airbase in Punjab, which was refuelled mid-air before it launched the missile toward the target in Bay of Bengal. This is the second time that the missile has been successfully test-fired from an aircraft. The jet involved in the test was a Su-30 MKI from the Thanjavur-based Tigersharks squadron.

The bulk of the 4,000 km from the airbase was covered by the fighter jet, while the missile travelled the last 300 km on its own towards the target. To cover the over 3500 km distance, the Su-30 needed multiple refueling by Ilyushin-78 midair refueling aircraft. The refueling aircraft had taken off from Agra. The IAF Su-30 had taken off from the Halwara airbase in Punjab around 9 am and hit its target around 1.30 pm after mid-air refueling.

The IAF squadron in Thanjavur is a specialist squadron that flies in maritime role too in. The squadron is also known as the ‘dominator of the Indian Ocean Region’ due to the long reach of Sukhois which are armed with BrahMos cruise missiles.

On October 18, India had successfully test-fired the BrahMos missile from INS Chennai somewhere in Arabian Sea. It hit its designated target with pinpoint accuracy. BrahMos is jointly designed, developed and produced by India and Russia under BrahMos Aerospace which is an India-Russia joint venture. The missile can be launched from ships, submarines and land. BrahMos missiles have been deployed in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh during the ongoing confrontation with China. In the last few weeks, India has test-fired several missiles including anti-radiation missile Rudram-1.

The Philippine Army has shown a keen interest in buying the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in order to strengthen its coastal defences. This was confirmed by Vice Commander of the Philippine Army, Major General Reynaldo Aquino undertaking a tour of the visiting Indian Navy Ship (INS) Sahyadri docked in the country’s capital Manila.

A man named Javed was arrested by police today in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly posting obscene pictures and vulgar comments on Facebook. According to a report of Amar Ujala, Javed, a resident of village Chhatiram under post Partaval, had created a fake account on Facebook. Police told that Javed was harassing a woman on Facebook using his fake Facebook account by posting obscene pictures and vulgar comments. He also called her over phone and hurled filthy abuses at her.

Before arresting the accused from Partaval market, Police was trying his number but he did not answer. Thereafter, police filed a case against him and arrested him within 24 hours of filing the case. The action was taken by a team of police from Shyamdeurvan police along with a team of the cyber cell set up under Mission Shakti. SP Pardeep Gupta informed that a campaign is being run in the district to stop cybercrime in the area under the Mission Shakti for women’s safety and independence.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh had launched Mission Shakti earlier this month with the commencement of Navaratri to dedicate Hindu festival for women’s safety and empowerment. The initiative which will conclude on Chaitra Navratri sometime in April 2021 will see the participation of 23 government departments including basic education, secondary education, higher education, MSME. Several non-government agencies will also be participating in the programmes.

The special awareness drive is aimed at boosting the morale of women and children and empowering them by making them aware of their rights. The rights and the laws related to women and children will be publicised through police stations and government departments as part of the initiative.
