PM Modi’s personal website’s Twitter account narendramodi_in hacked, hacker asked donation for COVID-19 relief

At 3:09 AM on 3rd September 2020, a series of tweets were posted from the Twitter account (@/narendranodi_in) of narendramodi.in that is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal website. The tweets were removed an hour later at around 4:05 AM. The compromised account has 2.5 million followers.

In the first tweet, the hacker appealed to the followers of the Twitter account to donate generously to the PM National Relief Fund for Covid-19 and claimed that the Indian government is accepting donations via Bitcoin.

In the last tweet posted at around 3:16 AM, the hacker group ‘John Wick’ took the responsibility of hacking the account.

In a statement, Twitter has confirmed that the account was compromised and is currently ‘actively investigating’ the case.

The hacking of PM Modi’s account comes just weeks after other high profile Twitter accounts were hacked in similar fashion, requesting crypto currency. In July, several high profile twitter accounts were hacked. At that time Twitter issued a statement and said employees with high access were targeted to hack accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos and several others.

On 30th August, risk intelligent platform Cyble reported that the same hacker group John Wick hacked PayTM Mall’s servers and the company suffered massive data breach. However, in current series of tweets, ‘John Wick’ has claimed they did not hack PayTM Mall.

Apparently delighted by the news of the controversial doctor Kafeel Khan’s release on bail from Mathura jail, group editor of Congress mouthpiece National Herald, Mrinal Pande, went on to compare Dr Kafeel with Lord Krishna. Pande’s reaction was not surprising at all as her hatred for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and PM Modi is an open secret.

Comparing Dr Kafeel’s release from Mathura jail to Lord Krishna’s escape from the jail where he was born, Pande insinuated that Dr Kafeel too will bring the end of CM Yogi just like Lord Krishna had eliminated Kans. Dr Kafeel is an accused in the Gorakhpur children’s death case in relation to which an inquiry is going on. An inquiry was also initiated against him for spreading fake news of being absolved in the children’s death case and also for forcibly entering the hospital and trying to treat patients during his suspension.

He was arrested in January this year in Mumbai for allegedly making provocative comments on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during his speech at the Aligarh Muslim University in December last year. Later on, provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) were slapped on him by the UP police for the same. However, yesterday Allahabad High Court set aside his detention under the NSA and ordered his release from the jail. The court order was hailed by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who demanded his swift release from the jail.

India makes it to the list of top 50 most innovative economies in the Global Innovation Index, tops in Central and South Asia region

India has made it to the list of top 50 countries in the list of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2020. Despite going through the tough patches due to the Covid-19 crisis, India was able to jump up four positions and stand at 48th position in the GII.

India topped the list of best innovative economies in the Central and South Asia region followed by Iran and Kazakhstan.

In the ranking done in various income groups, India was ranked third in the Lower middle-income economies, after Vietnam and Ukraine. Countries were categorised in four groups for this ranking, high income, upper middle income, lower middle income and low-income economies.

In the last year’s annual report of the GII, India was ranked 52nd after jumping five positions from the ranking of the previous year (2018). The GII is an annual report of the world economies prepared in relation to their capacity for and success in innovation published by Cornell University, INSEAD and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in partnership with other institutions. The report also provides an analysis of data derived from several sources that include the International Telecommunication Union, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.

Switzerland topped the list of the most innovative economies followed by Sweden. The US, the UK and Netherlands ranked at third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. India made to the third position in the 10 best-ranked economies in the category of Lower-Middle Income Economies.

After the video of an Unacademy tutor who was calling for picking up an AK-47 went viral on social media, now another such video of another Unacademy tutor is doing rounds. In a video that is being circulated by the netizens, an Unacademy teacher can be seen exposing his anti-Brahmin bias by making derogatory remarks for the Brahmins.

The tutor is apparently teaching about Varna system in the video wherein he remarks, “Sabse Kamchor jo hai Brahmins hote hain (Brahmins are the idlest community)”. He doesn’t stop at that and goes on to claim that the Vedas were written by the Brahmins who lied to the people that they were not written by any human being and in fact were written by God himself in order to secure people’s belief in Vedas.

He then explains another imaginary concept and says that the Brahmins put themselves between humans and God and thus became the mediator. According to his imaginary concept, Brahmins told people that they could not connect to God directly and therefore needed the assistance of the Brahmins to reach God. The tutor then presents some made-up facts and says that all the Hindu temples have Brahmins as priests and people from other castes cannot become priests in Hindu temples. He laments that only Brahmins perform all religious rituals on all the special occasions be it marriage or grih pravesh. He then claimed that Jainism and Buddhism originated from the Kshatriya class due to conflict with the Brahmins.

NIA files charge sheet against 5 accused in connection with Khorasan terror module of ISIS

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against five individuals for their alleged association with the banned Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), an affiliate of the ISIS. They have been charged for conspiring to generate disaffection against the government, promoting enmity among different religious communities and for carrying out subversive activities.

The charge sheet includes 36-year-old Jahanzaib Sami, having multiple names such as Dawood Ibrahim, Xaib, Abu Muhammed Al-Hind, Abu Abdulla and belonging from Srinagar. The other charge-sheeted persons include Hina Bashir, a native of Kashmir; Abdullah Basith, a resident of Hyderabad; and Sadiya Anwar Shaikh and Nabeel Siddick Khatri, both from Pune.

As per the reports, Jahanzaib, Hina, Abdullah Basith and Sadiya were in continuous touch with the ISIS terrorists based in Khorasan Province and Syria. Heeding to the instructions issued by ISKP head Abu Usman-Al-Kashmiri, Jahanzaib and Basith had prepared a magazine titled ‘Voice of Hind” to incite Muslims.

It has also been found that Jahanzaib, Hina, Abdullah Basith and Sadiya were plotting to leverage anti-CAA protests to stoke Muslims against the Indian Government by devising new seditious slogans and making graffiti at public places. They had planned to highlight the same on social and international media.

The probe into the matter revealed that accused Jahanzaib, Hina, Abdullah Basith and Nabeel Siddick attempted to create an improvised IED and were scheming to carry out widespread killings in crowded places to propagate the activities and ideology of ISIS/ISKP in India.

Arrested members of Islamic State’s Khorasan wing wanted to replicate Colombo Terror Attack in Delhi

Earlier in March, the Intelligence Bureau and Delhi Police had uncovered a massive plot to replicate the Colombo-style Jihadist attacks in Delhi by a module of Islamic-State Khorasan Province (ISKP) after two members of the group were arrested. The arrested members, Hina Bashir Beigh and Jahanzaib Sami were planning to procure a potent chemical Triacetone triperoxide (TATP) for the purpose. The chemical is called the ‘Mother of Death’ by the Islamic State terrorists.

Two other members of the terror module–Sadiya and Nabeel Siddick Khatri–were arrested a couple of months later, in July. According to the NIA, Sadiya was in constant touch with a Kashmiri couple–Jahanzaib Sami & Hina Bashir Beigh, who were arrested earlier, and a Tihar jail inmate Abdullah Basith on secure messaging applications to discuss ways to promote the ideology and activities of ISIS on how to propagate the ideology of ISIS & further its activities in India.

The premier investigation agency had also said that Nabeel Khatri was an active co-conspirator with Jahanzeb Sami and Abdullah Basith in carrying out violent terror attacks in India by providing logistical support such as procurement of weapons, fake SIM cards, assembling of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) etc. to propagate ISIS activities in the country.

After an UnAcademy educator was found provoking students to pick up AK-47s in his online classes, the online education technology company has issued a statement distancing itself from the comments of their educator Varun Awasthi.

They said that they reviewed the video published by Varun Awasthi and found objectionable content in it. According to the statement, it goes against the ethos of their brand. UnAcademy said that they do not endorse or support any statements made by the educators that instigate hateful and unlawful behavior. They further added that the video was not published on any of their platforms or youtube channels. They have taken appropriate action against the educator as per their internal code of conduct guidelines. The company said that although the educator didn’t make the comments in an official platform of the company, he was wearing an UnAcademy T-Shirt, and hence they expect the highest professional standards from him.

The statement by UnAcademy came after a video of Varun Awasthi went viral on social media where he had appealed youths to pick up arms and create a situation like Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing PM Narendra Modi, he had said that if the PM does walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the young generation the youngsters of India will pick up AK-47s like Jammu and Kashmir. He was threatening that youths will take up arms due to the delayed results of the SSC Railway exams.

After the clip of Varun Awasthi went viral, Unacadamy had replied to a couple of tweets saying that they do not support any such behaviour and statement made by any educator associated with the company. They had added that they have initiated an investigation and will take appropriate action.

Varun Awasthi has issued an apology on his YouTube channel, stating that his words were taken in the wrong context. He apologized for his comments and mentioned that he had removed all his videos where he might have said anything objectionable.

Former Muslim-turned-atheist, activist and Iranian Canadian author Armin Navabi on Tuesday came up with a new controversial social media campaign called ‘DesecrateTheQuran’.

Navabi, who is the Founder of Atheist Republic and also an author shared a video where he was seen tearing the Arabic version of the Islamic holy book, Quran. After tearing up the Quran, Navabi also spat on the book and further tore the pages to throw it away.

It may be noted that although Navabi is a former Muslim, he still harbours deep resentment towards Hindus.

The online campaign to burn or tear the pages of Quran comes at the backdrop of a recent trend where anti-Islamic activist groups in a few European countries such as Sweden and Norway have resorted to the public burning of Quran which resulted in widespread rioting. An activist group – Stop Islamisation of Norway (SIAN) has carried out various campaigns in recent times to desecrate Quran.

Just last week, Islamist mobs in Sweden and Norway had unleashed violence against these anti-Islam groups and had damaged public properties after there were rumours that some of these activists had burnt the Quran.

Government of India bans 118 ‘malicious’ Chinese apps including popular online multiplayer game PUBG

The Government of India has blocked 118 mobile apps, including popular online multiplayer game PUBG, claiming they were prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of the country and posed a threat to the defence, security and public order of India, a statement released by the Press Information of Bureau said. Most of these 118 apps are Chinese.

Invoking its power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India decided to block 118 mobile apps in the light of the information that they were engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order.

The decision to place a ban on the apps was taken after the government received many complaints from various sources, including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.

“The the compilation of the data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, would ultimately impinge upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement released by the government said.

The statement further read, “In the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India and security of the State. And using the sovereign powers, the Government of India has decided to block the usage of certain Apps, used in both mobile and non-mobile Internet-enabled devices. This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.”

The latest move by the Indian government comes amidst the heightened tensions along the Line of Actual Control after the Chinese troops were found surreptitiously intruding into Indian territory in southern bank of Pangong Tso lake on the intervening night of August 29 and 30. The Indian Army had outfoxed the Chinese manoeuvres and repelled the Chinese incursion.

Democratic US Presidential candidate Joe Biden has been trying hard to lure the Hindu community in the US ahead of the Presidential elections scheduled to take place in the month of November. Biden has been sending out greetings on Twitter to the Hindu community in the US on Hindu festivals. Last month he was seen wishing the Hindu Americans on Ganesh Chaturthi.

Yesterday, Biden tried to woo the Jain community by sending out wishes on his and his wife’s behalf on the occasion of Paryushan and Das Lakshan.

Soon after the formation of ‘Hindu Voices for Trump’ was launched as part of the campaign for the incumbent Republican President Donald Trump, Biden announced the launch of ‘Hindus Americans for Biden’. Hindus form the fourth largest religious community in the US accounting for around one per cent of the US population. The growing influence of the Hindu community in the US has not been missed by both the Presidential candidates and both are trying to secure the support of the community.

Calling the Hindu American community as one of the most loyal constituencies of the Democratic Party, the co-chairman of the ‘Hindu Americans for Biden’, Murali Balaji said, “The diversity of the Hindu America community cannot be understated and we wanted to make sure that their concerns are addressed directly through, among other things, events like this”.

Citing a report of the FBI, Ajay Bhutoria of AAPI National Council claimed that hate crimes have increased manifold under the Trump administration. Bhutoria assured that Biden will directly address the hate crimes. “Indian Americans of all (religious) backgrounds, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Jain and others- have been subjected to bullying and xenophobic attacks and need now, more than ever, a reassurance that our leaders in Washington will have their backs”, Bhutoria claimed.

Bhutoria said that Biden will enact legislation prohibiting anyone convicted of hate crime from purchasing or possessing a firearm. “Biden will appoint leaders at the Department of Justice who will prioritise the prosecution of hate crimes, and he will order his Justice Department to focus additional resources to combat hate crimes- including religion-based hate crimes- and to confront white nationalist terrorism”, he said. Bhutoria told that Biden will seek legislation that will increase the punishment for hate crimes occurring in places of worship such as Gurudwaras, Mandirs and Mosques.

Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris who is contesting for the post of Vice-President has also been digging her so-called Indian roots in order to lure the Indian-American votes.

Radical preacher Zakir Naik booked by NIA in ‘love jihad’ case involving top Bangladesh politician’s son

Islamic hate-speech preacher Zakir Naik, along with two Pakistani hardline preachers have been named as accused in an FIR filed by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the high-profile “love jihad” case, involving the daughter of a Chennai-based businessman and the son of a top Bangladeshi politician, belonging to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

It has been alleged that Islamic hate-speech preacher Zakir Naik, along with the two Pakistani hardliners, were allegedly involved in radicalisaton of the girl and her forcible conversion to Islam.

The case pertains to the marriage of the Chennai businessman’s daughter with the son of a Bangladeshi politician. The father of the daughter had complained with the Chennai Central Crime Branch in May that his daughter, who was studying in London, was radicalised and forcibly converted to Islam. He had also alleged that his daughter was kidnapped by Bangladeshi men and spirited away to Bangladesh. The girl’s father had accused Nafees, the son of the Bangladeshi politician of abducting and trafficking his daughter.

The main accused in the case is Nafees, son of Shakhawat Hossain Bakul, a BNP leader and former Member of Parliament. Bakul was sent to Bangladesh parliament from Narsingdi-4 as a BNP candidate in 1991 and 2001. He had been arrested from Khaleda Zia’s residence in December 2013. Four years later, in June 2017, a lawsuit was brought against him by a businessman for extortion.

In his complaint, the girl’s father claimed that his daughter was lured by the prime accused Nafees to get into a relationship. She was then trafficked to Bangladesh and forced to embrace Islam. There, she was held in captivity so that she could not speak about the atrocities committed against her. However, she somehow managed to get hold of a phone and called her father, recounting her ordeal with him. The girl had alleged that she had been sexually abused in Bangladesh and is facing constant harassment.

The victim’s father Chennai is a businessman in Royapuram and has migrated from North India only a few years ago. The father contacted Nafees after the daughter’s phone call and asked to release her daughter. However, when Nafees demanded money in return, the father filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner. The matter was then referred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB).

According to the Chennai Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, the case was transferred to the National Investigation Agency(NIA) because it involved investigations in foreign countries. Besides Zakir Naik, the Pakistani-origin hardline preachers named in the NIA FIR are Yasir Qadhi and Nauman Ali Khan, both based out of the United States.
