Kanpur Violence: Another key conspirator arrested, former SP leader Nizam Qureshi was absconding for 8 days

The second mastermind of the Kanpur violence, Nizam Qureshi, has been arrested by the SIT. Nizam Qureshi is a former SP leader. Earlier, prime accused in the case, Islamic leader Hayat Zafar Hashmi was arrested by the police. The police are likely to confront Hayat Zafar Hashmi and Nizam Qureshi over their roles in instigating the riots. More information about the riots can be revealed through their face-to-face confrontation.

Nizam Qureshi was absconding since the violence. He was dodging the police for the past 8 days. The SIT team was constantly trying to arrest Nizam Qureshi. On Saturday, the SIT team arrested him from Beckonganj.

Who is Nizam Qureshi?

According to a report by Navbharat Times, Nizam Qureshi, accused of the Kanpur Violence, has a strong political connection as he has been City level secretary of the Samajwadi Party. He also happens to be the district-level president of the All India Jamiyatul Qureshi Action Committee. On 22nd May 2022, Dr. Imran – the city president of the Samajwadi Party – expelled Nizam Qureshi from the party, citing that he is not showing a keen interest in the party initiatives. Nizam Qureshi has a stronghold in the local body of the Samajwadi Party as well as the Muslim community living in Kanpur.

A WhatsApp group named ‘Team Nizam Qureshi’ was found active on his phone. Screenshots of the chat from the very group had gone viral, which revealed that Kanpur Violence was a well-planned attempt to disturb the harmony of the city. Three MLAs of the Samajwadi Party were admins of this group. Samajwadi Party’s city president Dr. Imran was also a member of that group. But all of them have exited the group after the Kanpur Violence.

Economic boycott of Hindu businesses

The chat from Nizam Qureshi’s phone revealed that an appeal was made to the local Muslims to buy all their daily needs from the shops owned by Muslims and that they should always observe a complete economic boycott of the Hindu businesses. Dayaram Sweet House, Bansilala General Stores, Gupta Coolers, F=Sumit’s Fruit Shop, etc. were among the major names mentioned in that chat. Besides, the chat contained many other provocative things.

The Kanpur police are further investigating this case and they are interrogating Nizam Qureshi. Nizam Qureshi has close links with Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the mastermind of the Kanpur violence. Nizam Qureshi had called a meeting for the market closure on June 1, in which an appeal was made for a market closure on Friday, June 3. This was being done in protest against Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks about the Prophet Muhammad Nizam Qureshi was also present there on 3rd June 2022, when the shutdown calls were being made that caused the subsequent riots. After his name appeared in the FIr, he went absconding.

Hayat Zafar Hashmi is already arrested

Kanpur violence mastermind Hayat Zafar Hashmi is on police remand for two days. At the same time, the police arrested the second mastermind. The police are also likely to confront Hayat Zafar Hashmi and Nizam Qureshi so that more details can be revealed. On Friday, June 3, there was a clash in the name of a market shutdown in the Yatimkhana area under the Beckonganj police station. There was heavy stone-pelting between the two sides, in which dozens of vehicles were damaged. At the same time, many policemen and passersby were also injured. The Kanpur violence was instigated in a planned manner. The police have got strong evidence of WhatsApp chats.

On Saturday (June 11), a transsexual woman resorted to sexually inappropriate behaviour in front of minor children during a Pride Parade in Washington DC, USA.

The event, organized by Marriott International, was supposedly meant to acknowledge the evolution of the LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods in the US Capital. Considered to be one of the largest parades, the event witnessed the presence of both adolescent and pre-pubescent children.

During a march by European Union staff and supporters, the transsexual woman displayed his breasts in full public glare. He also twerked his hips as the frenzied crowd cheered in unison.

This was despite knowing that a large number of children had come to attend the event. With a sign that read ‘Sex work’, the semi-nude transsexual was also spotted twerking for the bystanders and entertaining them.

The sign, carried by him, also bore the name of Mary Magdalene (one of Jesus’ followers and a witness to his crucifixion and resurrection). He was also seen carrying a trolley during the 1.5 km-long parade.

The event continued between 3 pm to 7:30 pm at Logan and Dupont Circle neighbourhoods in Washington, DC. The contentious videos went viral when journalist Andy Ngo drew the attention of his followers to the disturbing trend of exposing underage children to sexual behaviour.

Last year, US shot putter Raven Saunders courted controversy for twerking in front of the camera to celebrate her silver medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Needless to say, Saunder’s twerking created quite a flutter on the internet, with reactions pouring in from a large number of social media users. One user was sardonic in criticising Saunders for twerking on camera.

In a sarcastic jibe, the user said “nothing screams oppression better than multicoloured hair guy twerking on live TV”. Another concerned American on Twitter remarked that twerking on live TV in a country that clucks over chewing food in public has made the United States a laughing stock.

Kejriwal Logic: More students in govt schools in Delhi is good, but more students in govt schools in Himachal is bad

Aam Aadmi Party keeps claiming that they have revolutionised public sector health care and education in Delhi. While they cite Mohalla Clinics as examples of world-class public health system, the AAP leaders and Delhi ministers including CM Arvind Kejriwal claim that they have improved the government schools so much that people are moving their children from private schools to government schools.

Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders have claimed that enrolment in government schools in Delhi is going up, and it is proof of improvement of the government schools.

However, it seems this logic applies only in Delhi, because as per same Delhi CM, while more students in government schools in Delhi indicates improvement of govt schools, more students in government schools in other states do not prove that. Instead, in other states like Himachal Pradesh it is a proof of poor economic condition of people.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made such a claim in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur on Saturday, where he made a correlation between children attending government schools and poverty in the state. In a political rally, Kejriwal claimed that as most students attend government schools in Himachal, it indicates poverty in the state.

On Saturday, Kejriwal was speaking at a political rally in Hamirpur titled ‘Shiksha Samvad’ that focused on the state of primary education in Himachal Pradesh. During his address, he expressed his concern over the large number of children going to government schools in the state. He said, “I have some data collected from the internet. How many of you send your children to government schools and to private schools?” Kejriwal asked for a show of hands.

“According to data, 14 lakh students attend schools and out of them, 8.5 lakh go to government schools while 5.5 lakh go to private schools. If so many children go to government schools, which accords to nearly 70-80% of them going to government schools. This means that there is so much poverty in Himachal Pradesh, that people cannot even…The state of government schools is so abysmal. When a man earns two bucks extra, he wishes to send his children to private schools, right?” said Kejriwal.

The Delhi CM also conveniently used wrong calculations show that more students in Himachal go to govt schools. He said that among 14 lakh students, 8.5 lakh study at govt schools, which means 70-80% children attend government schoold.

8.5 lakh in 14 lakh is 60%, not 70-80% as claimed by Arvind Kejriwal. He deliberately mentioned wrong numbers knowing that most people will not bother to do the calculation themselves.

Kejriwal said that while every parent desires the best quality of education for his children, it is only at a time of apathy that he sends his children to government schools. This is at a time when the Delhi CM could be seen boasting about children in Delhi switching to government schools on a regular basis.

Earlier this year, Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia claimed that the number of students going to Delhi government schools has risen by 21%. While AAP leaders including Kejriwal think of students going to government schools in Delhi as laudatory, doing so in Himachal Pradesh makes them poor. This strange display of elitism coupled with regionalism was also called by many netizens when the part of Kejriwal’s tweet went viral.

While Kejriwal has kickstarted AAP’s campaign for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, which are to be held later this year, he has found himself on a sticky wicket in his debut speech on education.

According to reports, several people were injured including four police personnel in a communal conflict Friday night in Borsad town in the Anand district of Gujarat. An attack on a person in the Hanuman mandir — Ahmed shah party plot area sparked the unrest.

During the ruckus, CCTV cameras near a Jain temple were also broken. Police have apprehended 14 suspects. Stone pelting began at about 1 AM and lasted for two hours in the Brahmanwada region.

Police used tear gas cells to disperse the crowd and the situation was eventually brought under control. Meanwhile, two companies of the State Reserve Police Force and 200 police officers have been deployed, commanded by District Superintendent of Police Ajit Raijan.

According to Dipak Patel, head of the BJP Borsad committee, the violence occurred as police sought to stop illegal construction on local municipality land near a Hanuman temple. A dargah is next to the municipality-owned open space behind the temple. Patel said that the minority community group had commenced construction on municipal property, which had been brought to the authorities’ attention.

He claimed that when the cops commanded them to stop, the mob attacked them. The incident subsequently evolved into a group confrontation between two communities, according to Patel, and spread to other areas such as Brahmawada, Gandhi Pol, Chokshi Pol, and two other localities. According to police, 50 tear gas rounds and 30 rubber bullets were shot to pacify the aggressive rioters.

IANS quoted Ahmedabad Range Inspector General V. Chandrasekhar as saying, “Rumours were making rounds that a group of the minority community in Borsad was cornered, because of which large group of the community took to the streets and started pelting stones on police and police vehicles.” Police have detained a few people, and their involvement in the violence is being investigated, according to Chandrasekhar.

West Bengal saw large scale violent protests by Muslims against the comments of Prophet Mohammed by Nupur Sharma for the last three days. While police had been largely unable to contain the mobs, CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday had appealed the agitated Muslims to not protest in the state, but hold protests in Delhi instead. However, some Islamists were not happy with this appeal, and they reminded how TMC won the elections with the help of Muslim votes.

Following the Jumma Namaz on Friday (June 10), an Islamic cleric was seen reminding the West Bengal Chief Minister of the role played by the Muslims in electing her to the Office of the Chief Minister. “I want to tell Mamata Banerjee that you are sitting on the Chief Minister’s seat because of the alms the Muslims,” the cleric was heard as saying.

“The vote of the Muslim community turned out to be a saviour for you else you remember how Suvendu Adhikari had dented your political campaign,” he further emphasised, reminding that Mamata Banerjee had lost the assembly election, and she had to win a byelection later to continue as CM.

“This is not an insult to the Chief Minister but a description of the reality. When everyone has the right to free speech, then, why not this right be extended to the Imam (cleric) of the masjid?” he asked. The development came hours before Islamists blocked highways and railway tracks to protest against the comments of Nupur Sharma on the Prophet Muhammad.

Mamata Banerjee has been accused of Muslim appeasement

After just a year in office, the West Bengal government under Mamata Banerjee introduced the scheme of honorarium for Muslim clerics and muezzins.

In a notification released on April 19, 2012, by the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, the government announced, “The District Magistrate will also requisition funds for a period of 2(TWO) months, initially, on the basis of the number of imams of the District @ Rs. 2500/- per IMAM per month.”

However, in February 2016, the Imams demanded a 100% hike in their monthly honorarium from ₹2500 to ₹5000. The agitation was led by All Bengal Imam Muezzin Council, which also demanded an increase in the honorarium of muezzins from ₹1000 to ₹2000.

While speaking about their matter, Secretary Maulana Akhter Hossain said, “We had presented a deputation with our demands comprising a revision of honorarium of imams, health facilities for their families, and education for their children.”

8 years after the honorarium scheme for Imams and Muezzins came into force, Mamata Banerjee announced an honorarium for Hindu priests in September 2020. It is important to mention that the number of beneficiaries was just 8000, compared that to 55,000 Imams.

Moreover, their pay was a nominal ₹1000 per month, which was ₹1500 less than that of Imams. The move was seen as an attempt to draw Hindu voters after BJP began making inroads in the State.

Islamists hold the State of West Bengal to ransom

On Thursday (June 9), a mob of frenzied protestors blocked the National Highway connecting Howrah and Kolkata, thereby resulting in traffic woes and public inconvenience. The demonstration comes days after the BJP suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma over alleged ‘blasphemous’ remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The protestors, dressed in skull caps and lungi, created a ruckus on NH116. They yelled Islamist slogans and burnt tyres. In videos that have now surfaced on social media, dark smoke could be seen engulfing the skies.

Reportedly, the blockade began from Nibra (Kona Expressway-NH16 junction) at around 10:30 am and ended at 9:30 pm. Located at about 12 km from the second Howrah bridge, it extended up to the AJC Bose Road in Kolkata.

Instead of acting against the mob that had brought traffic to a near halt in Howrah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked them to disrupt public life in other states instead.

She remarked, “Why should we suffer due to communal politics of some with an aim for narrow political gains? Go protest in UP, Gujarat…states where BJP is in power. But they are not in power in Bengal, so don’t do this for publicity in here.”

On Friday (June 10), the Islamists disrupted the vehicular movement in the Park Circus area in Kolkata. Following the Friday prayers (Jumma Namaz), Islamists began gathering on the road and demonstrating against the remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. 

Similar scenes were seen in Kolkata’s twin city Howrah, where Muslim mobs resorted to violence and vandalism. They burnt down vehicles and police booths during the violent protests.

Prayagraj authorities issue notice to demolish illegal house of violence mastermind Javed Ahmed, daughter is a close aide of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam

The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has issued notice that they will be demolishing the illegally constructed house of the Prayagraj violence mastermind Javed Ahmed today. The authority had issued a notice on June 10 to vacate the premises of his unlawfully constructed house by 11 AM today. The Uttar Pradesh Police apprehended Javed Ahmed, the suspected mastermind of the rioting in Prayagraj during the Friday Namaz on June 10th. However, at the time of publishing of this report, there seems to be delay in demolition.

The notice was issued by the zonal officer of the Prayagraj Development Authority on June 10, asking to vacate the illegal premises till June 12. As per the notice, the house in the Kareli Police Station area was built unlawfully and without approval from the competent authorities. On May 10 of this year, a show-cause notice was issued in this respect, with the date of hearing set for May 25.

According to the notice, Javed Ahmed did not appear before the authority, thus the authority issued orders to self-demolish the house by June 9th. However, the authority discovered that the instructions were not followed and that the home was not demolished, therefore the authority issued this notice to evacuate the premises by June 12 in order to raze the property.

Javed was apprehended following the unrest in Prayagraj that erupted after the Friday prayers. Javed and other anti-social elements, it appears, exploited children to throw stones at police and administration. SSP Prayagraj previously stated that Javed Ahmed’s daughter, a student in Delhi, is also involved in similar activities.

Afreen Fatima, daughter of Javed Ahmed

Afreen Fatima, a Jawaharlal Nehru University student, is Javed Ahmed’s daughter. Afreen Fatima said hateful things against the government and the Supreme Court in a video that went popular on social media in January 2020. She questioned the country’s top judicial body’s credibility by questioning key rulings such as the Ram Mandir verdict and the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru.

The JNU student attempted to incite the audience in a 45-second video posted on Twitter by user @knewschannel by claiming that while demonstrating against CAA and NRC, they realised that neither the government nor the Supreme Court is worthy of their faith.

In February, she took to Twitter and shared an article in favour of terrorist Afzal Guru. She is a close associate of the suspected anti-Hindu Delhi riots accused and Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam. 

Fatima also asked Muslims to target Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his remarks on the communalization of anti-CAA protests. On January 12, 2020, Fatima took to Twitter and invited Muslims to confront Tharoor, whom she branded an “Islamophobe,” with La Illaha Illallah shouts.

Hindus in Nepal show up in support of Nupur Sharma, hold rallies raising Jai Shri Ram slogans

Thousands of Hindus from Nepal turned out in support of suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma following the death threats she has received after her remarks on the Islamic prophet, as per videos that have gone viral on the internet. Visuals have emerged of people rallying with placards reading “We Support Nupur Sharma” and Jai Shri Ram chants raised along with Nepal flags.

Several videos have surfaced on Twitter and other social media platforms showing people holding placards in support of Nupur Sharma with the Nepali flag. Another video was posted on the video streaming platform YouTube also in which a huge number of people can be seen rallying in support of Nupur Sharma and the officers of the Nepali police around.

Nupur Sharma is garnering global support in the wake of global outcry over her words and widespread violent protests in various cities. The rallies in Nepal are one such incident. Recently, Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders stood in support of Nupur Sharma. In the Netherlands, Wilders has frequently taken a harsh stance against Islamic radicalism. Even Wilders has received multiple death threats after he showed up his support for Nupur Sharma.

Several Hindu seers have also openly supported Nupur Sharma in this controversy. Hindu saints explicitly stated at the Dharma Parishad in Kashi that those threatening Nupur Sharma should be caught and punished. They also denounced the violence that erupted in several parts of the nation during the Friday Namaz on June 10th, 2022. 

The controversy around the alleged ‘blasphemous’ statements has escalated, with many reports of violence in various locations during rallies against Nupur Sharma. On Friday, June 10, 2022, there were acts of violence by Islamist mobs in different parts of the country in protest of Nupur Sharma’s so-called controversial speech, which Islamists deem blasphemy.

On the 10th of June, Islamists attacked police officers in the holy city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh during ‘protests’ against suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma for her statements about Prophet Muhammad. On Saturday, June 11, 2022, a confrontation erupted between police and so-called demonstrators at Panchla Bazar in Howrah.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed state and union territory police chiefs to be prepared and vigilant, as they would be on target following Friday’s violent rallies across the country, with Muslim crowds pelting stones and becoming violent in several cities.

On Saturday (June 11) morning, the priest of the Koteshwar Mahadev temple in Prayagraj discovered an egg, which appeared deliberately placed on the sacred Shivling by some unidentified miscreants.

As per reports, a large number of devotees gathered in the temple when the news of desecration spread in the area. The development came a day after a frenzied Muslim mob pelted stones at the police over alleged blasphemy committed by ex-BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

Despite the attempt by miscreants to create disturbance in the area through temple desecration, the Hindu devotees exercised restraint. The temple was cleansed after the incident and the puja was resumed.

A large contingent of police was deployed outside the temple to avert any law and order situation.

While speaking about the matter, Prayagraj Police informed, “We have received information about such an act done by some unidentified miscreants. The cops took immediate cognisance of the incident. The situation is under control right now.”

It further added, “A case has been registered at the Shivkuti police station based on the information. A probe has also been initiated into the matter.”

On Friday (June 10), Prayagraj witnessed heavy stone-pelting on the police forces by Islamists after the Friday Namaz and the situation continues to remain tense. The protest staged against Nupur Sharma quickly turned violent with the protestors pelting stones at the security forces after sloganeering.

After the protests turned violent, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) lathi-charged the protestors to clear the area. However, the stone-pelting continued intermittently despite the best efforts of the security forces.

The incident took place in the Kareli Police Station area of Atala in the Prayagraj district. In anticipation of the violence following the Friday Namaz, police had deployed their personnel in large numbers in advance, but the violence still broke out.

Hundreds of Islamists took to the streets to ‘protests’ and started targeting the police officials. The District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police tried to calm the situation down but to no effect. The protesters were demanding the hanging of Nupur Sharma for her remarks.

The rioters seemed better prepared than the local administration, and despite the use of tear gas and lathi-charge, the cops were not able to bring the situation under control thus far.

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad on Sunday called out those who were indulging in whataboutery on his tweet where he expressed shock and condemned the hanging of effigy of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma outside a mosque in Belgavi, Karnataka, over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

Earlier, Prasad had expressed his horror on the hanging effigy via a tweet where he had said that he could not believe this was India in 21st century. He had appealed to everyone to let sanity prevail and leave politics aside. However, his appeal for sanity rubbed some ‘liberals’, Islamists and others a wrong way who, instead of agreeing to bring an end to the violence and death threats, indulged in whataboutery instead.

Many Islamists shared images of the demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya which triggered violent riots back in the day. So much that 10 years later in 2002, an Islamist mob burnt down a train full of pilgrims coming from Ayodhya.

Surprising someone would use these images to justify death threats to Sharma for citing things which are stated in the Islamic scriptures.

Some even shared visual images of police action on rioters in Jharkhand to justify public display of a hanging effigy.

Some even tried to justify it by claiming how political workers have often burnt effigies and so have cricket fans. However, effigy burning as a means of protest is way different than hanging an effigy as a death threat and as message to others that same fate awaits them should they ‘hurt religious sentiments’ of one community. For a community that likes to call itself peaceful, it sure has violent ways to prove how peaceful it is.

Along with all the Islamists, Bollywood entertainer Swara Bhasker, too, joined in to water down the threats to Nupur Sharma. Bhasker, however, has not yet condemned the riots and calls for beheading and bounty announced on Sharma’s head for ‘hurting religious sentiments’ of a community.

Frustrated by the lack of willingness by hardliners to let sanity prevail, the former cricketer said how he found it unbelievable. He said that this effigy is not just about Sharma but it is a threat to more than one person in no uncertain terms. Bodies were similarly hanged on cranes for public display by Islamist group Taliban when it toppled the government in Afghanistan.

As per a statement issued by the organisation, Nupur Sharma’s statements on Prophet Muhammad has allegedly hurt religious sentiments of some and an FIR has also been made on her. She had no intention to hurt anyone’s feelings and now with the FIR the matter is sub judice. Hence, as a civil society, we must let the law take its course, the statement said.

However, some people of particular faith have created a riots-like situation and under the garb of peaceful protests have taken to violence. ‘They have also called for Nupur Sharma’s beheading. Some have even demanded death sentence for her. The situation has escalated so bad that a civil war-like situation has emerged. This is very dangerous for the secular fabric of our nation,’ the statement read.

Adding that the Nupur Sharma incident is not about Hindu-Muslim but about the respect to constitution of India and also about the respect of woman of India. Hence the organisation is going to hold a silent protest calling for ‘Ruk Jao’ (stop) to the violence that has descended upon the streets of India. AltNews’ Mohammed Zubair triggered the abuse on Nupur Sharma

In last week of May 2022, during a debate on Times Now, Nupur Sharma made certain comments on Prophet Muhammad which have also been stated in the Islamic scriptures. Her comments were in response to the constant slew of mockery of the Shivling found inside the wuzukhana of the disputed Gyanvapi structure.

Soon after the debate, AtlNews cofounder Muhammed Zubair shared part of the clip on his social media handle and called for action against her. Subsequently, his rabid followers started giving death and rape threats to Nupur Sharma. Zubair and other Islamists like Washington Post Columnist Rana Ayyub and others then started tagging Middle Eastern countries authorities, in a bid to embarrass India on an international platform. They even asked the Middle Eastern countries to stop oil to India over Sharma’s statement.

The BJP had suspended Sharma and expelled party leader Naveen Jindal over the statements. However, the threats to their lives and lives of their loved ones continue. It has been over a week since then but riots have taken place after Friday namaz (Islamic prayer) in various parts of India. In fact, mainstream politicians have also asked for Nupur Sharma to be hanged publicly after some people in Belgavi hung an effigy of hers hanging from a crane right outside the mosque. The Taliban, when it came to power back in Afghanistan last year had started hanging dissenters publicly on crane like that.
