India loves Amul: The milk cooperative becomes the first Indian diary brand to make it to the Rabobank’s Global Top 20 list

In a first, Amul has become the only Indian diary brand to make into the global top 20 list of Rabobank. The list released by the Dutch multinational banking company has placed Amul, also known as the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), in the 16th position with an annual turnover of $5.5 billion (₹38,500 crores).

Besides, the list also featured Nestle at the top with an annual turnover of $22.1 billion. Moreover, Dairy Farmers of America jumped 3 positions in the list to secure the 3rd rank with an annual turnover of $20.1 billion.

Amul reacts to the inclusion in the Rabobank list

Expressing delight over this news, the official Twitter handle of Amul wrote, “GCMMF (Amul) enters the Rabobank’s Global Top 20 Dairy Companies list for the first time at No.16. This is a matter of pride for 36 lac milk producers of Gujarat.”

Reacting to a congratulatory tweet by the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, the Managing Director of Amul R S Sodhi wrote, “For all this tremendous growth, credit also goes to Government of Gujarat, CMO and Vijay Rupani for supporting 36 lacs farmers during difficult times by giving timely export incentives and Infrastructure funding.”

Diary sector can boost India’s employment, says MD of Amul

In a recent statement, RS Sodhi informed that the dairy sector is crucial to generating employment in the country. He added that the sector would create a whopping 1.2 crore jobs in the following ten years. He highlighted how India’s milk market was expanding at 5% annually compared to the 1.8% growth of the global milk market. As of now, India produces 21% of the world’s milk.

The Boycott Amul Campaign

Chief Editor of Sudarshan News, Suresh Chavhanke, had earlier announced about a programme on ‘bureaucracy jihad’ and ‘UPSC Jihad’. Sharing a snippet of his program, Suresh said, “Imagine jihadis from Jamia becoming your district commissioner and secretaries in every ministry.”

After the controversial video was posted, it attacked criticism from various sides, notably from left-liberals and Islamists. It was alleged that Suresh Chavhanke is spreading hate against Muslims, and leftist portals started publishing articles criticising him and his channel and questioned Amul for being a sponsor on the channel.

However, despite the hate it got, Amul received overwhelming support from netizens who swear by the brand which is synonymous to quality and hard work of thousands of small and marginalised animal husbandry workers across the state. In fact, during the nationwide lockdown at the outbreak of Chinese coronavirus, Amul pumped in Rs 8,000 crore back into rural economy. When the government announced lockdown, Amul communicated with all the stakeholders. They managed to keep the supply chain up and running as the Ministry of Home Affairs and local administrations helped them in every possible way. There were some hiccups in the process that were dealt with by Amul and administration.

Christian missionary groups and left-wing organisations behind Palghar lynching says fact-finding team, demands CBI probe

A fact-finding team has blamed left-wing organizations and Christian missionary groups for the violence that led to Sadhus’s lynching in Palghar district, Maharashtra. Vivek Vichar Manch formed the fact-finding team that comprised of retired judges, lawyers, and police officers.

The 149-page report made some explosive revelations, including how some groups are spreading hate and inciting the tribal population against the union government. The report said, “The brutal and inhuman mob lynching of Sanyasis is the outcome of a violent approach which has been influencing the tribal community.” It also explained how many misconceptions and ill practices had engulfed the region.

The team has demanded that the central investigation agencies like NIA or CBI should handle the Palghar mob lynching case. They said that the whole truth could come out if such agencies manage the investigation. The police personnel present at the site could have stopped the mob from killing the Sadhus, the report stated. However, the police remained silent and let the brutal murders happen in front of their eyes.

One of the authors of the report, retired Justice Ambadas Joshi, said, “If it were spontaneous, then how did 400-odd people assemble at the spot, what was the logistical support? The police also practically handed over the sadhus to the mob instead of stopping them.” Advocate Pravartak Pathak, another author of the report, said that some Christian missionary organizations fund the organizations that are working on Adivasis’ rights.

Recommendations of the Fact-Finding team

The Fact-Finding Team, formed by Vichar Vivek Manch, examined all aspects of the case. They have given the following recommendations in the Palghar mob lynching case:

  • There is a possibility that this lynching may have connections with the Naxalite movement as there have been incidents of replicating independent Adivasi area as done in Patthalgarhi, Jharkhand. Thus, the investigation should be handled by NIA.
  • There are organizations in the area that are spreading communal hatred and anti-democratic agenda. They provoke people to use violence. It must be investigated by a central investigation agency such as CBI or NIA.
  • The investigation agencies must identify and list the real eyewitnesses. They should get protection and security, considering the history of violence in the area.
  • The report suggested that the investigation should not be misdirected due to the Chief Minister and Home Minister of the state’s statements. There is a need for more in-depth investigation and probe into organizations’ roles, including Adivasi Ekta Parishad and Kashtakari Sanghatana. It said that the videos and other information team came across have been listed in the report, and it should be taken into consideration by the investigation agency.
  • It said that the innocent tribals should not be implicated falsely due to political nexus. They are not among the followers of groups like Adivasi Ekta Parishad and Kashtakari Sanghatana.

Palghar Sadhu lynching

On 16th April 2020, two Sadhus of Juna Akhara, Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), and Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) were lynched along with their 30-year old driver by a mob. The incident took place at Gadchinchale village in Palghar district, Maharashtra. They were on their way to Surat, Gujarat. The police were present at the scene, but the allegedly did not try to stop the mob or did anything to save the sadhus.

Netizens demand boycott of the movie KGF-2 after filmmakers decide to cast actor-turned-politician Prakash Raj

Last week, the makers of the blockbuster Kannada movie KGF announced that they had resumed the shooting of the sequel of the pan-India movie that was halted due to coronavirus restrictions.

Producer Vijay Kiragandur took to Twitter to inform that they were proceeding with the shoot of KGF-2 and also welcomed actor Prakash Raj, who according to makers will be playing an important character in the movie.

Following the revelation by the makers of the KGF-2 that they have cast controversial actor Prakash Raj for their upcoming movie, there has been a massive uproar, especially in Karnataka, opposing Raj’s presence in the movie.

Various social media users, who had once enthusiastically supported the movie and had made it a blockbuster, took to social media expressing their disappointment over the decision of giving space to controversial actors like Prakash Raj.

It is important to note that the actor Prakash Raj is a strong proponent of far-left ideology and has time-and-again courted controversies for openly supporting leftist elements like Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid etc.

Raj is also infamously known for his extremely hateful views on Hinduism. Last year, Prakash Raj had courted another controversy after he had equated ‘Ram Leela’ with child porn and had claimed that such events instil fear in the minds of the minorities.

Netizens, especially from Karnataka, who has a dislike for Prakash Raj over his pro-Tamil views, has now called for a boycott of the KGF-2 movie after the movie makers had decided to work with controversial actor Prakash Raj.

The presence of Prakash Raj has irked the fans, who have now taken a vow not to watch the upcoming movie. We will not watch, because ‘creature’ like Prakash Raj has acted in the movie, said a fan of the movie.

Another social media requested the director of the movie – Prashanth Neel to remove the ‘coward’ Prakash Raj from the movie KGF-2 and warned him to face negative consequences failing to do so.

Social media users not only protested against the decision to include Prakash Raj, but also pointed out how the movie makers have cast Sanjay Dutt in the movie, who was once convicted for illegal possession of weapons.

Kannadiga social media users, interestingly, urged fellow fans from different states to boycott the movie saying that it was not worth to see a movie which has actors who possess anti-Indian views.

A user named Nagesh, a fan of Yash – the lead actor in the movie, said that he will boycott the movie despite being actor’s fan. The user said Dharma and Nation stood above everything and demanded the removal of Prakash Raj.

Earlier, there were also reports that Prakash Raj had replaced veteran actor Anant Nag, who played the role of the narrator in the first part of KGF. These reports had caused an outrage following the rumours that Raj had replaced legendary actor Anant Nag.

Following the controversy, Director Prashant Neel had to confirm that Prakash Raj was not replacing Anant Nag but will be portraying an entirely different character.

‘99% of stars use drugs’, Kangana Ranaut makes explosive revelations about drug abuse in Bollywood

As the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case has exposed the dirty underbelly of Bollywood involving drugs, actor Kangana Ranaut made some explosive revelations on the matter today. In an interview given to Arnab Goswami on Republic, Ranaut confirmed what was believed for a long time, that drugs flow like water in Bollywood parties, and industry insiders start giving newcomers with drugs from the beginning.

99% stars use drugs

National award-winning actor said that it is common for Bollywood stars to use drug, and newcomers also start with drugs early on. 99 per cent of start consume drugs, she claimed. Same drugs dealers supply drugs like cocaine, LSD, ecstasy etc to them, she said. Everything is handled in a systematic manner. Their wives also host these parties. It is a different environment altogether. You will find people who only do drugs and indulge in debauchery in such parties,” Kangana said.

She alleged that many governments have helped this Bollywood-drug mafia grow. She said, “These people promote nepotism, many of them do drugs from childhood and then become actors or directors. Many of these actors, I dated one of them — they go to a place, start with a drink & then go on with drugs. It all starts with a drink, then a roll, and then a pill, then they snort – it’s a secret sign. These actors, their wives move to houses & do drugs, debauchery is unimaginable. I’ve seen how vulgar it becomes and things get out of control at these drug parties.”

The actor revealed that even politicians and police officials turn a blind eye to drug use by Bollywood stars. She said that the actors do campaign for the politicians, so their drug abuse is ignored by the administration.

Kangana Ranaut said that when Bollywood parties take place, people from a certain category are always seen there, who supply drugs. These are generally people who run restaurants or clubs.

Kangana was drugged during her beginning in Bollywood

Kangana Ranaut said that when she had entered the Hindi film industry in Mumbai, she was drugged by a ‘character artist’. She said that after winning a competition in Chandigarh, she was selected for appearing in a TV commercial. After that, an agency had signed her, which sent her to Mumbai. While living with a woman in Mumbai as a paying guest while looking for work, the said character actor befriended her. Kangana said that the actor soon became her ‘self-appointed mentor’.

According to Kangana Ranaut, the man started to take her to parties, she felt intimation towards him after she was intoxicated. She said that later she realised that her drink was spiked with drugs, which made her feel intimacy towards him. After this, the man became her ‘self-appointed husband’. He used to abuse her and hit her with slippers. She said that the man used to give drugs to make her hallucinate.

While the man was supposed to help her getting roles in Bollywood, he was shocked when she got a big break in a movie. After that, he started sedating her with injections, so that she can’t go for shootings. She told her about it to her director Anurag Basu, and Basu used to make her stay in the office on several nights to protect her from that man.

A drug addict big star

Kangana Ranaut narrated an event where she had witnessed a top Bollywood star taking drugs during an overseas shooting. Kangana had a small role in the movie, and the shooting was at Las Vegas, which was her entry into the big bad world of drugs in Bollywood. She said that the both the star and his wife used to drugs freely.

Later, a relationship had developed between Kangana and the top star, and the once the star had to be hospitalised due to drug overdose. She also said that the star and his family also tried to put her behind bars.

Kangana further said that outsiders are exploited in the industry. She said that Bollywood is a loose structure and there is no interference of law and order here. This place operates like a mafia or underworld, she said. She added that if someone goes to the police seeks help from law and order, they are called ‘mental’ and discarded, or even murdered.

The actor said that if she was in Mumbai at present, she would have been klled for talking about drug mafia in Bollywood. She has been living in her Manali home since the start of the lockdown. “For me, it’s do or die. If I don’t finish my enemies, they will finish me, I will not stop”, she said.

She also slammed the industry and brands for their anti-Hindu, anti-National stands. She revealed that brands ask stars not to talk about nationalism, and actors who talk about nationalism don’t get ads and movies. She also asked why Bollywood never made movie on topics like Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala.

A band of Haryanvis clashed with a group of Khalistanis at Harris park in Sydney, Australia on Friday night in an organised brawl following a quarrel that ensued over an argument on TikTok. It was apparently broadcast through the social media platform. According to Punjabi singer Kamal Choudhary, the fight started after Jassi, a Khalistani, started posting pro-Khalistani and anti-India content on TikTok.

Facebook post by the Punjabi singer

One Haryanvi individual took objection to the video and soon, the matter escalated to a point where both sides convinced their friends to gather for a gang fight at Harris Park. When they gathered, the Khalistanis raised pro-Khalistan slogans as well before the sides clashed with each other. People from both sides were injured in the process and Jassi, the main culprit, was badly injured. There are videos circulating on YouTube regarding the matter.

Apparently, the matter has not deescalated as yet and Jassi is still going around threatening that he will thrash Haryanvis if he comes across them alone. This is after he was badly beaten up in the gang fight. The Punjabi singer said, “We all are here on Indian passports, filling all the forms here with nationality as “Indian”, to make some living by working hard, to get educated in one of the best colleges, to live in one of the best countries in the world and yet we cannot get rid of these separatist thoughts is shameful.”

“It was not good what has happened,” Nitin Setia, a business owner, told 9News. “It’s really bad for the community here.” It is feared that such hooliganism will spoil the image of the community in Australia. It is reported that Haryanvi and Punjabi leaders have stepped in to deescalate the situation.

Shashi Tharoor mocks Piyush Goyal for saying Kolhapuri footwear has great export potential, here is why the Congress ‘guest artist’ is wrong

Yesterday, Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal had talked about the export potential of Indian indigenous industries like the Kolhapuri footwear industry. He had said that exports worth Rs 7,500 crores can be done by selling Kolhapuri slippers. But the minister was mocked by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, saying that BJP was doing flip-flop on policy.

The Modi government has been focusing on encouraging traditional industries, with an aim to increase employment and also to preserve local industries. The central government is working towards promoting the One District One Product scheme, to identify one product in each district for manufacturing. As part of that effort, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said that India needs to take a unique and innovative approach to boost exports, like identifying districts which are famous for a particular product.

The minister gave the example of Kolhpuri slippers in this regard. He said that if marketed properly, Kolhapuri slippers can become a billion-dollar export product. During a meeting with the chief ministers via video conferencing, Piyush Goyal said that he believes that Kolhapuri chappal alone has the potential to do a billion dollars of exports, if the central and state govts come up with innovative ideas to turn this into reality.

Giving an example of such an idea, he had said, “One of these ideas, in relation to Kolhapuri chappals, could be if we contact all five star hotels around the world and ask them to keep 2-3 sizes of Kolhapuri chappals in the hotel room almirahs the way they keep bathrobes.” He suggested that this way the footwear will be promoted in front of people staying in such hotels who may buy them.

But Shashi Tharoor, the ‘guest artist’ in Congress party, didn’t like the idea, and he came forward to mock the minister for trying to promote Kolhapuri slippers. “Giving a whole new meaning to the BJP’s flip-flops on policy — this time it’s flip-flops AS policy!”, he tweeted.

In an effort to mock the government, the Thiruvananthapuram MP ended up with insulting a successful local industry, which indeed has great export potential as claimed by minister Goyal. The Kolhapuri slippers have great export potential because India has a huge export market for footwear. The country exported more than Rs. 18,000 crore of footwear and related items in the year 2019-20.

India is the second-largest global producer of footwear after China, and the country produces 2 billion pairs of footwear in various categories. Around 15,000 units are engaged in the manufacturing of footwear in the country, with an estimated total turnover of Rs 50,000 crore.

The minister had cited the example of Kolhapuri slippers to showcase that if produced & marketed properly, traditional Indian products have a huge export market potential and can compete and even excel against other categories of footwear.

It may be noted that Kolhapuri chappals were popular in America during the hippie generation of the 1960s and 1970s, and it can again capture overseas markets if the correct strategy is adopted. An official in the ministry said that while even in Americans in 60s and 70s had no problem in adopting Kolhapuri Chappals, now some Indians in 2020 can’t take pride in their own products. The official added that “the present criticism stems from a weak mindset”.

Due to the increased efforts of the Modi government towards local industries, there has been a tremendous increase in the market for Khadi products since 2014. The production of Khadi fabric since 2014 was recorded at 95.05 million square meters in just six years, compared to the production of 103.22 million square meters in the previous 58 years.

Remembering Major Dhyan Chand: The Indian hockey wizard who stood up to Adolf Hitler

Major Dhyan Chand (1905-1979) is regarded as a ‘magician’ in the field of hockey. His contribution to the sport has been immense so much so that the legend is adored not only in India but worldwide. As India celebrates the National Sports Day, let us look back at one of the memorable events of his career on his birth anniversary.

The year was 1936 and Nazi Germany was hosting the Summer Olympics. The Indian hockey team had made it into the finals after defeating France with a score of 10-0. The Indian team was set to play against the hosts who were anticipating a victory in the final game. The match was scheduled on August 15 and the Indian side was ‘excessively nervous’.

Dhyan Chand turned India’s fortunes in Berlin Olympics’ hockey final

The Indian hockey team had a bad start. They were unable to score a goal in the first half. However, their fortunes turned in the second half when the team scored aggressively and was successful in putting up a score of 8-1 against Germany. The crowd of 40,000 people was taken aback by the stellar performance of barefooted Dhyan Chand and his personal contribution of 6 goals. Adolf Hitler, who had come to cheer for his team, reportedly left the stadium out of frustration. He, however, came back to hand over medals to the Indian team.

Dhyan Chand declined offer by Adolf Hitler

On August 16, 1936, Dhyan Chand received a message from Hitler, asking the hockey wizard to meet him. Chand was surprised and scared as he had heard stories about Hitler killing people on the spot. During their meeting, Hitler asked the Indian hockey legend about his profession and offered him a high-ranking position in the German army, after learning that he served as a Major in the Indian army. However, Dhyan Chand politely refused his offer, citing inconvenience in relocating to Germany with his family. The Nazi dictator, who was awestruck by his performance on the field, understood concerns raised by Chand and concluded their meeting in the private box of the stadium.

‘India is not for sale’

According to Saiyed Ali Sibtain Naqvi, the ex-coach of the Indian hockey team, Dhyan Chand stood up to Adolf Hitler firmly. “He replied to Hitler with closed eyes but in a bold voice of an Indian soldier that India is not for sale,” Naqvi recounted the hockey wizard narrating this story to him personally. He informed that Hitler not only saluted Dhyan Chand but also conferred the title of ‘Wizard of Hockey’ on him. “To the utter surprise of the entire stadium, Hitler saluted him, instead of shaking his hand and said, ‘The German nation salutes you for the love of your country India and your nationalism’,” Naqvi clarified.
