Times of India journalist Raj Shekhar Jha tweeted a video clip of Delhi Police’s Joint Commissioner Devesh Shrivastav appealing to students inside Jamia Millia Islamia campus to not throw bottles and pelt stones on the police force.
Watch this clip. Joint commissioner Devesh Shrivastav appealing to Jamia students to stop pelting stones and Molotov cocktails. Calls them ” bachchon and beta” .. Don’t demonise the cops while you are blinded in hatred. There is good and bad everywhere. pic.twitter.com/1dyATBAgms
In the video one can hear him refer to the students inside Jamia as ‘beta’ and ‘bachcho’ (Hindi for children). He informs them he is outside gate no. 7 and requested the ‘bachcho’ to not pelt stones and throw bottles at the police force. He then said how it is not right to throw stones at them like this. He appealed to the students to stay inside the campus and not come out.
Aapke beech Jo ye galat ladke pahuche hue hain.. lagatar pathtar tube light bottle fek rahe Hain.. aap baat karein.. This is how joint CP Devesh Shrivastav was appealing for peace and trying to warn the students about the anti social elements amongst them. 10 nabbed today. pic.twitter.com/TpVZlQAVeP
In another clip he could be heard saying that the police force is being continuously attacked by stones, bottles, tubelights but they are there for the safety and security of the students.
After the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed, few protests broke out of which some turned violent too quickly. After West Bengal, the protests reached Delhi’s Jamia Nagar where mischief mongers set buses on fire and resorted to violence. Police had to use force to control the situation.
Violent protests, arson, mob violence and vandalism had marked the protests in Jamia Nagar in Delhi and several other places on 14 and 15 December. A number of videos, being circulated on social media, are now emerging which depict how certain individuals had instigated violence in the areas.
In one such video, reportedly from Delhi, a man is seen inciting Muslims to come to the streets and do ‘Chakkajam’ (bringing a city to halt) in Delhi. The man is saying that they (Muslims) need to do Chakkajam in Delhi and wherever they have sufficient numbers. He says that right now, Muslims can bring several Indian cities to a halt. The man in the video is Sharjeel Imam, a JNU ‘student’ and The Wire columnist.
The man says that Muslims are being hindered by their own organisations like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Jamat-e-Islami. He is seen calling for Muslims to bring cities of North India to a halt.
“There are over 30% urban Muslims in UP. Do you have no shame at all? Why cannot you do Chakkajam in UP? The area in Bihar where I am from, the rural Muslim population is 6% while the urban Muslim population is 24%. Indian Muslims mostly live in cities. So it is upon you. You can bring your cities to a halt. If anyone asks you not to, disown them”, the man is heard saying.
The video has been going viral in social media. Though OpIndia could not independently verify where it was shot but it was being widely circulated to depict how students and the general public are being instigated to carry out violent protests and cause damage.
Update: On 31st December, in an exclusive expose, OpIndia revealed that Sharjeel Imam was the mastermind of the Shaheen Bagh protests and had severely nefarious designs and Islamist bent of mind. The headline of the article has been altered to reflect the connection of Imam with the Shaheen Bagh protests.
Delhi Police arrested 10 people with criminal background in connection with the Jamia Nagar riots that took place in the national capital over the weekend. According to police no student has been arrested and not a single bullet was fired by Delhi Police during the Jamia riots. The police is also tracking other anti-social elements who were involved in the rioting. The ten arrested are reportedly ‘history sheeters’.
Two FIRs are registered for property damage and riots in connection with the violence that erupted during the protests in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar where Jamia Millia Islamia university is located. The protests where some students also participated turned violent when some rioters set buses on fire and resorted to stone-pelting. The Delhi Police swung into action and lathicharged and used tear-gas to control the rioting mob.
An intelligence report shared with the Ministry of Home Affairs, some ‘political parties’ and banned radical Islamist outfits like SIMI and PFI are behind the violent protests in several places across the country.
As per a report published in Swarajya, sources in the MHA said that the intelligence report, submitted last week, says that the violence and unrest is the ‘handiwork’ of banned Islamist outfits.
On Sunday, violent protests, stone-pelting arson and mob attacks had forced the Delhi police to enter into the premises of Jamia Millia Islamia to get the situation under control.
“Some political parties (names withheld considering the gravity of the case) ignited the violent acts at various places, letting opportunities to sleeper cells of extremist and militant Islamic fundamentalist organisations, Popular Front of India (PFI) and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)” the ministry sources were quoted saying by the report.
It also added that their aim is to disrupt law and order situation in the country. The intelligence report also stated that the outfits are planning to spread the violence to several states.
The PFI has a number of student and social bodies and is reportedly trying to take advantage of the situation. The SIMI, which had been involved in terrorist activities, is trying to revive its sleeper cells in the time of crisis to provide help to some political parties.
The PFI, in a press release earlier this month, had fear-mongered over the CAB, batted for the Rohingyas, and had added that India has ‘no right’ over PoK.
The intelligence report, as per sources, stressed upon immediate measures to curb the spreading violence through protests. It stated that the organisations involved are seeking to damage the social fabric of the country by propagating antinationalism and secessionism.
It is notable here that the MHA had on December 16, issued an advisory to all state and UTs to take the “requisite precautionary measures to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquillity”. The advisory also includes directives to curb rumour-mongering and fake news on social media.
It is notable here that on 16 December, an OpIndia exclusive report had exposed how Congress’ NSUI and their supporters are coordinating to instigate violent agitations across colleges and institutions of India via a WhatsApp group.
The report by our editor Nupur J Sharma has exposed the NSUI leaders trying to rally students across India in a well-planned and coordinated way while trying to mask these protests as spontaneous and organic.
The CAA aims to provide Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities who have been staying as refugees from the three Islamic neighbouring nations, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Islamists groups, most of ‘secular-liberal’ media and opposition parties have been opposing the legislation alleging that it is discriminatory against Muslims.
Sometime in August this year, days before the season two of his controversial Netflix series Sacred Game premiered, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap had ‘quit’ Twitter claiming he was not allowed to ‘speak his mind’. He had deactivated his profile claiming his parents and daughter were getting threatening calls.
Wish you all the happiness and success . This would be my last tweet as i leave twitter. When i wont be allowed to speak my mind without fear then i would rather not speak at all . Good bye
He had left Twitter because he was ‘not allowed to speak his mind without fear’. However, months after Sacred Games 2 released and quite frankly failed to get viewer attention, Kashyap is back, this time he said he will not sit silent.
This has gone too far.. can’t stay silent any longer . This government is clearly fascist .. and it makes me angry to see voices that can actually make a difference stay quiet ..
Following the violence at Jamia Nagar in Delhi where rioters set buses on fire, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to appeal for peace. However, Kashyap chose this moment to blame the ‘BJP IT cell’ for ‘creating propaganda about students being violent’.
Please say the same to BJP IT cell .. who creates propaganda about students being violent and then give excuse to the system to attack the students violently . Thank you @narendramodihttps://t.co/cgYd4eEe36
The Delhi Police had used force to control the rioters at Jamia Nagar in Delhi where Jamia Millia Islamia university is located. Kashyap then shared a 15th December post to claim that no students were involved in the riots.
Dear @narendramodi sir and @AmitShah .. pls watch this .. THERE WAS NO VIOLENCE BY THE STUDENTS BUT LOCAL NETAS.. pls control your IT CELLS, your ABVP, your netas .. and whoever it is . You are the government and you have the power to find the truth. And trolls please STFU https://t.co/cGBC8U9QDv
Yesterday, in her media address, Jamia VC Najma Akhtar reportedly claimed that over 700 fake student IDs were recovered from campus. Going by Kashyap’s logic, perhaps the ones involved in violence were the ones with fake student ID card? In that case, if force was used against the rioters, it should not really be a cause of revolt.
Now if only logic were as easily accessible to Bollywood folks like other stuffs…
Amidst speculations of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi going abroad on holidays, his sister Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was to ‘lead’ two-hour symbolic protest in solidarity with Jamia Millia Islamia students at Delhi’s India Gate. There was a considerable buildup to Priyanka’s protest as a lot of people tweeted that all Congress leaders will be present at the protest.
@priyankagandhi and all cong leaders will sit on dharna at india gate for 2 hours
However, when she did reach the venue with former Congress MP Sushmita Dev, there was hardly anyone there except for a few curious bystanders and Delhi Police officers doing their duty.
As seen in above picture shared by Mahila Congress, Dev appears a little angry while speaking to someone on phone. The conversation was caught on camera by Newsroom Post.
Dev can be heard saying, “Humare leaders kahan hai? (Where are our leaders?) Aap bhejo, Venugopal vagarah ko bhejo. (You send Venugopal, etc here). Aap samajh gaye na? (You understood, right?)” Following this phone call, few Congress leaders turned up at the protest to form a ‘respectable’ crowd.
One of the lodestars of the left-liberal intelligentsia- Javed Akhtar, was today caught shooting from the hips on legal matters when an IPS officer confronted him for claiming the Delhi Police violated the ‘Law of the land’ by entering the Jamia Millia Islamia University without seeking the permission.
Dear Legal Expert
Please elaborate the law of land, the section number and name of the Act etc so that we are also enlightened.
Regards
Akhtar, who is often mocked as a humanised version of an irrigation sprinkler, was responding to a Twitter user who had tagged him in his tweet about the misbehaviour meted out to a journalist by Jamia ‘protestors’. The user quoted an ABP news tweet which showed that a woman journalist was misbehaved with by the Jamia ruffians when she was reporting about the protests. The user asserted that the likes of Javed Akhtar will not condemn such incidents.
In line with the Twitter user’s belief, instead of calling out the misconduct the ABP news anchor was subjected to, Akhtar turned a blind eye to it while mouthing off platitudes about the Delhi Police’s action in the Jamia Millia Islamia University.
“According to the law of the land, under any circumstances, police can not enter any university campus without the permission of the university authorities. By entering the Jamia campus without permission, police have created a precedent that is a threat to every university,” Akhtar tweeted.
Before long, a decorated IPS officer, Sandeep Mittal, sardonically questioned Javed Akhtar to enlighten him about the law of the land, the section number and the name of the Act he is referring to while asserting that the police have broken the law by entering the Jamia university without seeking permission from the authorities.
“Dear Legal expert, Please elaborate on the law of the land, the section number and the name of the Act etc so we are also enlighted,” Mittal retorted.
Stumped by Mittal’s riposte, Javed clammed up, not responding any further about the details sought by IPS Mittal.
Last evening, the Delhi Police had to enter the Jamia Millia Islamia University to quell the bouts of spiralling violence that accompanied the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Buses were torched, public property was destroyed as the enraged mobsters indulged in blatant acts of vandalism and arson. Hundreds of ‘protesters’ were paraded out of the University with their hands in the air. The Police said that they had nabbed some outsiders who were indulging in violence.
Hindustan Times has filed a police complaint against one Nupur Kashyap who had identified herself as Hindustan Times journalist and wished death upon Prime Minister Modi. As reported by HT, a complaint has been filed by the publication in Crime and Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police where HT has accused Kashyap and Facebook of impersonation and defamation under section 419 and 500 of the IPC.
On Sunday OpIndia had reported how one Nupur Kashyap had wished for a ‘river tsunami’ such that PM Modi dies.
Nupur Kashyap’s Facebook comment
In her Facebook profile, she had identified herself as ‘copy editor’ at Hindustan Times.

Following it, many social media users had questioned whether Hindustan Times endorses such views. However, as per Hindustan Times, Kashyap is not employed with them.
As the protests against the CAA have taken an ugly turn, the number of personnel guarding residences of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior ministers have increased after intel from central intelligence agencies suggest that these places might be likely targets of the violent protestors.
“In view of prevailing situation…the protesters may go to the residences as well as offices of Central Ministers for snap demonstrations,” the alert said.
Other places that may be on the list of demonstrators are Vijay Chowk, Parliament street and India Gate. “The protest might also erupt at places such as Vijay Chowk, Parliament Street, India Gate and old and new police headquarters and the residence of Home Minister (Amit Shah),” the alert stated.
The intel was shared by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik who emphasised the need to brief and sensitise security staff, local police staff, and other personnel of security forces deployed at New Delhi District.
Furthermore, Patnaik asked Police Control Room vans, as well as New Delhi District Quick Response Team, to stay alert and more cautious.
Patnaik added that there is an acute need to fortify Metro stations by strengthening the police deployment around stations.
“Social Media needs to be continuously monitored so that fake news and videos being spread on Internet can be tackled promptly,” he said.
The anti-CAA protests had exacerbated after the Jamia ’protestors’ yesterday indulged in acts of vandalism and arson in the National Capital of the country. Soon thereafter, the Delhi Police entered the Jamia Millia Islamia University to quell the bouts of violent acts accompanying the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Public property was destroyed as the enraged mobsters indulged in blatant acts of vandalism and arson. Hundreds of ‘protesters’ were paraded out of the University with their hands in the air. The Police said that they had nabbed some outsiders who were indulging in violence.
The bouts of violence continued as the angry ‘protestors’ today launched an assault against the ANI journalists outside the Jamia Millia Islamia Gate no. 1 who had gone there to cover the protests.
Apparently, the protestors are miffed with the government’s recently legislated Citizenship Amendment Bill that intends to grant citizenship to the persecuted minorities-Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Christians and Buddhists from neighbouring countries.
Controversial journalist Barkha Dutt, a respected member of the media fraternity who has been accused of undermining India’s national security during the Kargil War, met two protesting female students of Jamia Milia Islamia in an obvious attempt to whitewash the violence that was unleashed by Muslim mobs. The students she met were Ladeeda Farzana, Aysha Renna, and Shaheen. In a video that had gone viral on social media, the ‘sheroes’ could be seen ‘saving’ Shaheen from the Police.
In a viral video from #Jamia we saw two young women save a male friend from police lathis by giving him cover. We also saw the same women standing atop a roof raising hands in another viral image. I meet Ladeeda Farzana & Ayesha Renna, sheroes of Jamia & Shaheen whom they saved pic.twitter.com/q8qfvIDMFT
Upon discovering their identities, ‘internet sleuths’ proceeded to dig into the individuals that were mentioned to develop some understanding about their conduct on social media. As they say, the internet never forgets. People discovered that Aysha Renna had called India ‘fascist’ because the terrorist Yakub Memon was hanged till death after he was convicted for his involvement in the Mumbai Blasts that killed hundreds of people.

The other girl in Barkha Dutt’s photo was Ladeeda Farzana, who is presumably, Ladeeda Shakhaloon. Ladeeda Shakhaloon also finds mention in this Outlook report where she is again lionized by the reporter. The Outlook reported, ““We started the protest from our hostel at around 7. For half-an-hour, there were just four of us,” says Sakhaloon, adding the number gradually swelled as they went around visiting other hostels, mobilizing students. By the time the girls climbed up the wall to address other students, there were over a thousand students who had amassed in protest. “If we don’t protest, who will? My parents have always said that you must fight injustice. When my father saw that photograph, all he said was, ‘You are on the right path,’” says Sakhaloon, who already has a BA degree in Economics.”
Now, who is Ladeeda Shakhaloon (probably the Ladeeda mentioned by Barkha Dutt) that she is being lionized to this extent? Her facebook profile provides great evidence to her worldview. In one of her posts, she openly gives a call to Jihad. She says that people should “learn about our ‘Jihad’.”
Source: Ladeeda Sakhaloon/Facebook
The mention of Badr, Uhd and Karbala is significant as these are battles where the early Muslims had scored decisive victories against the ‘Kaafirs’. The Battle of Badr was fought by Prophet Muhammad himself and is considered to be won by Allah’s divine intervention by Muslims. The Battle of Uhud was the second military encounter between the ‘Kaafir’ Meccans and the prophet. The battle of Karbala was fought between the Second Umayyad Caliph Yazid the first and grandson of the Islamic prophet. This battle ultimately sealed the Shia-Sunni divide.
She ends the post with “La ilaha illa allah, Muhammad rasoolullah.” Given the mention of the three places along with Jihad is ample evidence that Ladeeda Sakhaloon’s call for Jihad cannot be whitewashed as a mere non-violent struggle or spiritual struggle. Moreover, the Hudybiyyah she mentions is a peace treaty signed by Prophet Muhammad with the Qurayshi tribe which he later broke and went to war against them. Therefore, quite clearly, Ladeeda Salakhoon is drawing an analogy with breaking a peace treaty with ‘Kaafirs’ and going to war against them. This cannot be dubbed as a call for spiritual Jihad or non-violent Jihad in any manner whatsoever.
In another post of hers from April 2018, she gives ‘middle fingers’ to India. This was soon after the unfortunate rape and murder of six-year-old girl in Kathua, Kashmir.
Ladeeda showing middle finger to India
Aysha Renna’s worldview should also be now of great suspect as she has shared posts of the same individual in her own timeline and was ‘tagged’ in the post where the call for Jihad was made.
Source: Aysha Renna/Facebook
Furthermore, Ladeeda Sakhaloon and Aysha Renna are also the face of the Jamia Milia Islamia University protests and were the individuals in the photo from the protests that have been labeled ‘iconic’ by many ‘intellectuals’ on social media. And, again, we have the Outlook report to thank for it. In the picture below, Ladeeda Sakhaloon is at the center and Aysha Renna on her left. To her right is one woman called Chanda Yadav.

One Facebook user with the username ‘Baasie‘, another student of Jamia according to his/her profile, shared Ladeeda’s call for Jihad.
Source: Baasie/Facebook
Ladeeda’s call for Jihad was also shared by one Anshad from Kerala whose profile appeared to confirm that Ladeeda Sakhaloon is indeed the Ladeeda Farzana mentioned by Barkha Dutt.
Twitter user @WrongDoc dug out more details on the jihadist inclination Ladeeda has.
Thus, quite clearly, we see that the faces of the Jamia protests are people who are extremists in their ideologies and openly give a call to Jihad. These are the individuals who are seeking to be normalized by the ‘secular camp’. It is also important to remember that slogans such as ‘Hinduon Se Azadi‘ were raised at Jamia Nagar the day mob violence ravaged Delhi.
Given the extremist ideologies of the individuals concerned, the investigative authorities need to thoroughly investigate whether any Jamia students were involved in raising those slogans. Furthermore, it also needs to be investigated whether Jamia students with extremist ideologies instigated those violent protests even if they didn’t directly participate in it. It is also pertinent to note that in Ladeeda’s call for Jihad, she had tagged others who belong to the Jamia Milia Islamia University. It emphasizes the necessity of investigating the radicalization of the Muslim youth in top universities.
