Jizya tax in Bangladesh? BNP-Jamaat extorting money, extremists demanding gold and girls from Hindus, reveals new report

The string of violence that broke out following the ouster of elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5th August, has continued unabashedly for several weeks in Bangladesh. Violent Islamist mobs have been targeting Hindus and other religious minorities in the country. They have also forced several Hindu academicians and teachers to resign from their jobs. Now, in an exclusive ground report from Bangladesh, ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ has highlighted the ongoing plight of the Hindu community. The ground report also sheds light on the real extent of threats the Hindu community has been facing in Bangladesh for the past several weeks.

The Hindus, facing religious persecution in Bangladesh, have pleaded with India to grant them visas. They have lamented that they don’t want to live in fear, and if India doesn’t heed their request, they will cross the country’s border without visas. It is pertinent to note that there are 1.35 crore Hindus in Bangladesh which has a total population of around 17 crores. Gopalganj (26%), Maulvi Bazar (24%), Thakurgaon (22%) and Jasore (20%) have the highest number of Hindu population. Out of these, Jasore is said to be the stronghold of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Speaking with Dainik Bhaskar Correspondent Vaibhav Palnitkar, who is currently in Bangladesh, a Hindu man from Jasore said that on 15th August, around 10-12 bike-born assailants started gathering around his house. The assailants were armed with sharp weapons like knives, hammers, and sickles. But they left the area after they realised that he was not at home. This happened twice as the bike-borne assailants came back again. Later, they started calling him and issuing threats. Fearing for his life, his family asked him to hide at a relative’s place. For safety concerns, the Hindu man from Jasore asked not to reveal his identity.

There is an ashram in the area and two Hindus are doing fish farming here. They told Dainik Bhaskar correspondent Vaibhav Palnitkar that they have been receiving threats stating that if they don’t give Rs 2-3 lakh, their sons will be kidnapped. They added that the callers also hurl abuses at them. They said that they received a call from a village in which the caller asked them to settle the matter by paying them money if they wanted to be spared. They also gave Rs 15,000 to a Jamaat-e-Islami henchman. They lamented that they didn’t have any future in Bangladesh and wanted to sell all their land and property and settle in India. They are not able to work anymore.

A Hindu man working in a fish farming company said that the company owner has been receiving threats, forcing the owner to go into hiding. Because of this development, they have been asked to anyhow extort money from their owner, otherwise their cows will be taken away. They have been receiving these threats from persons who are known to them. These persons are also linked with the BNP. They have been asking Hindus to give them money, gold, and girls.

Facing persecution, the Hindus stated that many Hindu girls have been sexually assaulted and raped but they are not able to share their ordeal.

Another person who has given money to a BNP henchman said that they don’t have any faith in the new government. He added that Hindus are now unable to get jobs in Bangladesh. He stated that government representatives have been troubling them, and there is no trace of the army or the police. A primary teacher was also attacked. They have been forced to flee for their safety. They have been compelled to protect Hindu temples from getting attacked or vandalised. Even the police officers are refraining from meeting Hindu victims. Many police stations are running with the help of the army.

Another student said that houses of minorities in Bangladesh have been marked and extortion is being demanded from them. The parents of the said student are elderly and live in Chittagong. After doing Engineering from a college in Maharashtra, he is working in Dhaka. His family has been asked to leave Bangladesh. A caller who identified himself as a member of an Islamic group demanded 5 lakh Takas over the phone. Other Hindus are also receiving such threatening phone calls.

Uttarakhand: Maulvi Shabbir Raza arrested for raping and sexually exploiting 5 minor girls inside illegal Madarsa in Rudrapur, police say there can be more victims

A shocking case of rape and sexual exploitation of at least five minor girls, aged 5 to 9 years, inside the premises of an illegal Madrasa, has come to light from Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur. A 34-year-old Maulvi named Shabbir Raza has been arrested on charges of raping and sexually exploiting the minor girls. It is said that he used to scare the minor girls by telling them stories of ‘djinns’ and threatening to unleash those spirits on their parents. He is also accused of showing the minor girls porn videos on his phone.

The accused Maulvi, Shabbir Raza, was arrested on 18th August from Malsi village. As per reports, Raza originally hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district. He was appointed as the Maulvi in the mosque which is located in Malsi village in Rudrapur city’s US Nagar. He was running an illegal Madrasa within the Mosque where he was teaching Urdu language to children up to 14-15 years of age. He had built another room for himself inside the madrasa, where an AC was installed. It is said that he committed the heinous crime in this room.

As per reports, Raza arrived in Malsi only two months ago as he was earlier living in Rampur Shahbad.

The heinous crime came to the fore when one of the minors narrated her ordeal to her family members on 16th August. Subsequently, on the next day, her mother filed a Police complaint in this matter.

According to Police officials, the extent of the crime could turn out to be much bigger as the accused was committing the crime for nearly two months. So far, the Police investigation has confirmed the sexual exploitation of at least five girls.

According to the Police, Raza used to beat older boys on the pretext that they didn’t complete their homework and sent them away. He also asked older girls to leave by giving them a lot of homework. However, he used to make the younger girls, aged 5-9, stay at the Madrassa for extra classes.

On Friday (23rd August), the Police said that the accused Maulvi would also take the girls one by one inside his room and make them watch porn on his phone before violating them.

Police statement on the modus-operandi of the accused Maulvi

SSP (US Nagar), Manjunath TC, said, “In the complaint, one girl’s mother alleged that apart from her daughter, the maulvi (cleric), Shabbir Raza, a resident of Pilibhit, sexually assaulted four more girls.”

The SSP added, “The children used to attend the Urdu class in the afternoon after finishing their regular school. As per a preplanned design, Raza used to beat the older male students on pretext of not doing their homework and send them home early. For the older girls, he used to give them a lot of homework and send them away while asking the younger ones, aged 5-9 years, to stay back on the pretext of extra class.”

While the minor girls told Police that the accused Maulvi had violated at least 5-7 girls. The Police official added, “We’re suspecting the number to be more. Raza had been committing the crime for nearly two months.”

Based on her complaint, a case was registered under sections 351 (3), 74, and other sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The accused was also booked under the POCSO Act. The SSP added that the police are gathering information regarding him. They are also ascertaining the fact whether Shabbir Raza had any criminal history.

The SSP further said, “Suspecting more girls to come forward in the coming days, we’ve requested a child welfare commission to conduct counselling of the survivors and their parents.”

Nagarjuna’s N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad demolished by authorities, the actor to take legal action saying it is on private land and there is stay order against demolition

0

Actor Nagarjuna expressed his disappointment with the demolition of his N Convention hall by HYDRAA on Saturday.

Nagarjuna wrote on his X handle,” Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases. I thought it fit to issue this statement to place on record certain facts for protecting my reputation and to indicate that we have not done any actions in violation of law.”

He clarified that the land on which the N Convention Centre stands is private property (Patta land) and asserted that no part of the structure encroaches upon any tank plan. And also shared there was already a stay order in place preventing any demolition, issued in response to an earlier notice deemed illegal by his legal team.

“The land is a Patta land, and not even an inch of tank plan is encroached. In respect of the building constructed inside the private land, there is a stay order granted against any earlier illegal notice for demolition. Today clearly, the demolition was carried out wrongfully based on misinformation. No notice was issued prior to carrying out the demolition this morning. As a law-abiding citizen, if the Court before which the matter is pending, had decided against me, I would have carried out the demolition myself,” Nagarjuna added.

The actor revealed that he would seek appropriate legal remedies in response to what he views as wrongful actions by the authorities.

His post read, “I am placing this on record for the purpose of correcting any public misimpression about wrongful constructions or encroachment by us. We would be seeking appropriate relief from the Court in relation to the wrong actions carried out by the authorities.”

Officials of Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), along with the police, carry out a demolition drive at N Convention Hall near Shilparamam in Rangareddy district.

“HYDRAA officials have started demolishing the N Convention Hall this morning and we have deployed police force to ensure the demolition is carried out smoothly, as the land comes under the FTL zone,” said Madhapur DCP.

Another conspiracy to derail train? Farrukhabad Express narrowly escapes major accident, loco pilot finds wooden logs on railway track

On Friday (23rd August) night, the Farrukhabad Express plying between Kasganj and Farrukhabad narrowly averted a major accident after coming in contact with a wooden log placed on the railway track.

As per reports, the train experienced a sudden jolt, forcing the loco pilot to apply emergency brakes and bring the train to a halt. It was later discovered that the wooden log had stuck to the train’s engine.

After that, the railway workers removed the wooden log and cleared the track. The train resumed services after 25 minutes. On reaching the Shamshabad railway station, the loco pilot reported the matter.

On Saturday (24th August) morning, a team of investigators from Kasganj and Bareilly reached the crime scene to investigate the matter.

They were accompanied by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the dog squad. The team also visited the neighbouring villages to investigate the matter.

This is not the first time that such a case has come to light. On the night of 17th August, the engine of the Sabarmati Express train derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur.

Soon after, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that the derailment took place because of an object placed on the railway track.

It was later revealed by the investigative authorities that a broken piece of railway track was kept on the train line to facilitate the accident.

Recently, an investigation was launched into a suspected act of sabotage after the engine of the Nainpur Jabalpur train collided with an extraneous iron rod placed on the track near Kachhpura station.

The collision, however, did not result in the derailment of the train. The railway authorities have seized 3 iron rods of about 15 feet in length from the spot.

On Thursday (22nd August), the Aligarh Railway Police charged one Afsan for deliberately placing an alloy wheel on the railway track to derail a moving train.

The incident occurred on 20th August when the accused made a deliberate attempt to recreate the Kanpur rail accident that happened on 17th August.

Earlier this month, a YouTuber named Gulzar Sheikh was arrested for putting different items on railway tracks including cycles, soaps, stones and more in the name of content creation.

After Centre, Rajasthan govt lifts ban on government employees participating in RSS activities

0

The BJP government in Rajasthan has revoked the long-standing ban on government employees participating in RSS activities.

Rajendra Singh Kavia, Joint Secretary of the Department of Personnel, issued a circular referencing previous orders, lifting the 52-year-old prohibition.

According to the circular, after reviewing the directives from 1972 and 1981, it was decided to remove the RSS from the list of organizations whose activities were previously banned.

Earlier, the central government had also lifted a ban on government employees engaging with the RSS.

In a historic move, the Modi government has lifted a 58-year-old ban on government employees participating in the activities of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS). The prohibition, enacted in November 1966 during the tenure of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was lifted on the 9th of July 2024. The copy of this Department of Personnel and Training’s (DoPT) order was shared on social media by Congress leaders to express their anguish over the undoing of the historic injustice.

“Participation of the Government servants in the activities of RSS regarding. The undersigned is directed to refer to the OM No.3/10(S)/66-Estt. (B) dated 30.11.1966, OM No. 7/4/70-Est. (B) dated 25.07.1970 and OM No. 15014/3(S)/80- Estt. (B) dated 28.10.1980 on the above subject. 2. The aforesaid instructions have been reviewed and it has been decided to remove the mention of Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (R.S.S.S) from the impugned OMS dated 30.11.1966, 25.07.1970 and 28.10.1980. 3. This issues with the approval of Competent Authority,” the DoPT’s office memorandum dated 9th July read.

Several states, including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, have already removed similar restrictions on government employees associating with the RSS.

‘Mamata Banerjee Police unleashing sinister toolkit to undermine protests seeking justice for RG Kar Hospital victim ‘: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari

On Saturday (24th August), the Leader of the Opposition and senior BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, accused West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of unleashing a ‘sinister’ toolkit to undermine the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’. Notably, a protest march called ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ has been called for 27th August in which demonstrators will march towards the state secretariat building – Nabanna – to seek Justice for the RG Kar Hospital victim.

The development comes a day after the Calcutta High Court refused to stop a march to the West Bengal state secretariat, ‘Nabanna’, on 27th August. Nabanna Abhiyan aims to demand Justice for the trainee female doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on 9th August. The High Court held that the fundamental right to hold peaceful protest cannot be curbed.

On Saturday, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari charged CM Mamata Banerjee with using a ‘sinister toolkit’ to stop protesters from marching towards Nabanna. He said that the Mamata Banerjee government has been badly rattled by the protests, especially the ‘Reclaim the Night’ campaign. He added that as the appeal of ‘Navanna Abhiyan’ by a non-political student community is gaining momentum, it has certainly raised Mamata Banerjee’s blood pressure.

Accusing Mamata Banerjee and the West Bengal Police of trying to suppress the protest marches, Adhikari said that the ‘Mamata Police’ has now resorted to the unethical way of spreading gossip and rumor-mongering through social media.

The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Adhikari added, “Fake Facebook profiles are being created through Civic Volunteers under police stations of every districts (sic). These fake Facebook profiles are being accumulated to spread false news about the ‘Nabanna Abhiyaan’ on August 27.”

Adhikari stressed that fake Facebook profiles are being created and URLs of toolkits are being sent to these profiles to spread fabricated posts to create confusion about ‘Navanna Abhijaan’ and demoralize the students.

The post further stated, “Along with this, URLs of Toolkits designed for this specific purpose are being sent to these fake Facebook profile handlers to spread the pre-created false posts to create confusion about ‘Navanna Abhijaan’ and demoralize the students.”

While noting that the use of ‘toolkits’ is not unprecedented throughout the world, Adhikari emphasised, “This would be a first time, when a Govt would be trying to destabilize a spontaneous Public movement by spreading fake news through ‘toolkit’ and fake social media profiles.”

He urged the students and civil society members to not get misled by fake news and to continue to demand justice for the deceased female trainee doctor. He has also listed some FB profiles which according to him, have been created by the local police for this purpose.

Further in the long post, Adhikari stated, “I have attached the list of fake Facebook profiles created by the Police in Purba Medinipur District (as a sample) to expose the conspiracy. I have the list of each district, if required I will publish it later.”

The BJP leader asserted that subordinate level Police officials are fed up with her anti-public activities and they also want Justice for the RG Kar Hospital victim as they also have daughters at their homes.

He concluded by saying, “Mamata Banerjee, it’s time you realize that a large section of the subordinate level Police officials are no longer on your side. They are also fed up with your anti-public activities. They also have daughters at home, they also want justice.”

Mamata Banerjee government facing public ire over the handling of trainee doctor’s rape and murder case

The rape and murder case of the 31-year-old trainee female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has sparked nationwide protests to seek justice for the deceased victim. Hospital administration, Police, and the West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee have been facing massive public ire over the initial handling of the case and the subsequent ‘transfer’ of the controversial Hospital principal, Sandip Ghosh. Both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court made several scathing remarks about the developments in the case, particularly ones revolving around Sandip Ghosh. During the last hearing, the Supreme Court reacted firmly to the apprehensions and allegations that the state administration was suppressing protests demanding Justice for the trainee doctor. The apex court categorically asked the Mamata Banerjee government to “not unleash its power on peaceful protesters“.

My father got me married with the consent of both parties and by spending more than his means.”

She added, “After the marriage when I went out in the city, I liked the roads of Ayodhya Dham, the beautification, the development, and the atmosphere there. On this, I praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in front of my husband.”

The victim’s family alleged that initially they went to the Bahraich and Ayodhya Police but they ignored her complaint. After this, Maryam’s father, Mohammad Sharif, complained on the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s portal and urged for the safety of her daughter and justice in this case.

Jarwal Road Police Station Incharge Inspector (SHO) Brijraj Prasad said that the husband abused the Chief Minister, and the Prime Minister, and gave her divorce by pronouncing “talaq, talaq, talaq” (instant triple talaq).

The Police stated that the case was filed under the Assault, abuse, threat, and Dowry Prohibition Act and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.

MP: Schools and colleges directed to hold events to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami

Just a month after directing schools in Madhya Pradesh to organize special two-day events for Guru Purnima, the BJP government led by Mohan Yadav has issued similar instructions for schools and colleges on Krishna Janmashtami (August 26).

On Wednesday, the general administration department issued a six-point directive to all district collectors, requiring all schools and colleges, both government and private, to host lectures by scholars and cultural programs that highlight Lord Krishna’s teachings, as well as themes of friendship, life philosophy, and values.

The directive also stated that lectures and events focusing on India’s ancient traditions, such as Yoga, should be held in schools and colleges on August 26.

Additionally, the district collectors were instructed to ensure the cleaning of all Lord Krishna temples and the organization of cultural events at these temples during Janmashtami.

The order specifically mentioned the need for special cultural programs at religious sites believed to be associated with Lord Krishna’s life, including Janapava (Dewas), Amjhera (Dhar), Narayan, and Sandipani Ashram (Ujjain).

The Congress party opposed the directive, arguing that educational institutions are meant for learning. “Why is this government trying to ruin educational institutions? There are provisions for declaring holidays on religious occasions,” said Congress MLA from Bhopal-Central, Arif Masood.

In response, BJP MLA from Bhopal’s Huzur, Rameshwar Sharma, supported the decision, saying, “Our government has decided to celebrate Janmashtami across the state. It is a positive move by the government.”
