Surat: 42-year-old auto driver Akhtar Raza Muniyar repeatedly molests 11-year-old girl while dropping her to and from school, blames porn for it when arrested

In Surat, a minor girl was repeatedly sexually molested by an auto-rickshaw driver identified as Akhtar Raza Muniyar. The 11-year-old victim used to go to school in his autorickshaw and the driver used to molest her during the transit. The entire episode was exposed when a woman spotted this and conveyed it to the victim’s family through another student. The girl’s family then lodged a complaint with the Police against the accused. Meanwhile, Akhtar Raza Muniyar blamed porn videos for this crime during police interrogation after he was arrested.

Akhtar Raza Muniyar, a 42-year-old resident of Sagarampura in Surat, drives an autorickshaw in a private school. It is revealed that for a long time, he was physically assaulting an 11-year-old girl who came to school in his rickshaw. He used to stop the rickshaw at a place and used to molest the girl.

When a woman noticed him committing this crime, she recorded a video of the same and reached out to the mother of the victim girl with the help of another student living in the minor girl’s society. The woman showed the video to the girl’s mother and informed her about the incident. The mother then took her girl into confidence and inquired about the incident. The victim girl then narrated the whole incident to her family.

The accused threatened to burn the girl alive

The girl made shocking revelations when the mother questioned the victim girl. She said that Akhtar had been doing this to her for a very long time. Akhtar threatened to burn her alive if she told anyone about it. The girl then did not tell anyone about this out of fear. According to the information, the accused used to stop the rickshaw near Sagarampura and used to molest the girl.

After getting all the information, the victim’s mother complained to the police station. The police registered a case against Akhtar under sections of molestation and the POCSO Act and conducted further investigation. The accused was then arrested within hours.

‘I used to get excited after watching porn’, says accused Akhtar

It is worth mentioning that as soon as the case was registered, the police arrested the accused Akhtar. He has confessed to the crime before the police. He told the police that he was used to watching porn videos and used to get excited after watching these videos. He said that after getting excited, he used to molest the girl. Police suspect that Akhtar might have committed similar crimes against other girls as well. At present, the police have sent his phone to Forensic Science Lab and are investigating the incident.

Mamata Banerjee’s U-turn: From problems with ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans and skipping Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, to announcing holiday for Ram Navami for first time in Bengal

On Saturday, 9th March, the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government announced a public holiday on Ram Navami. In the notice shared by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, the notice read, “In continuation to this Department Notification No. 6112-F(P2) dated 09/11/2023, the Governor is pleased to declare 17th April 2024 (Wednesday) as Public Holiday on the occasion of “Ram Navami” under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881.” Notably, this is the first time Ram Navami has been declared a public holiday in West Bengal.

In his post on X, Malviya said, “Mamata Banerjee, who would turn blue with rage, every time she heard ‘Jai Shree Ram’, has designated Ram Navami (17th Apr) as a public holiday, in West Bengal. She has done this to redeem her anti-Hindu image. Too late though… More importantly, she needs to ensure no stones are pelted on Ram Navami processions. Will she? Jai Shree Ram.”

Mamata Banerjee has an everlasting problem with ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Mamata Banerjee, over the years, has had a serious problem with ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans. In May 2019, she lost her cool after hearing ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans and asked the police to arrest those chanting them. Mamata was visiting the North 24 Parganas area and while passing from there, some people chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans. When she heard the slogans, CM Banerjee climbed out of her car and started shouting at those people. She called them outsiders and threatened to take action against them while deeming them as criminals.

In January 2021, Mamata Banerjee walked off the stage and refused to address a public gathering at Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial for Netaji’s birth anniversary celebrations. Interestingly, she was sharing the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the event, the people gathered chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans when she was invited to talk. Mamata could not tolerate it and walked off the stage. She said, “Inviting people and then disrespecting them does not behove the government. This is a government programme, not a political party’s programme”.

In October 2021, Mamata Banerjee went to poll-bound Goa for campaigning where she was greeted with ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans and posters. Reacting to the incident, former Goa CM and TMC leader Luizinho Falerio accused the BJP of chanting slogans and claimed Banerjee reacted only with a “Namaskar”. However, the BJP categorically denied involvement in the incident.

In March 2022, Mamata Banerjee called peaceful Hindus chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram “cowards” in a public meeting near Varanasi when she was addressing the voters while campaigning for Samajwadi Party candidates during the UP Assembly elections. Some Hindus greeted her with ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans, and she took offence to them. During her address at this election rally, Mamata Banerjee said, “I am not scared. I am not a coward. I am a fighter. I faced thrashing & bullets several times in my life. But I never bowed down. Yesterday when they were surrounding me, I got out of my car & faced them to see what they could do. They are cowards.”

In April 2023, the Bengal CM called upon the Muslim community to pray to Allah to finish off rioters in the State. During her speech, the West Bengal Chief Minister slammed the Hindu devotees, who participated in the Ram Navami procession, for supposedly carrying deadly weapons. Mamata Banerjee alleged that Hindus took out Ram Navami processions without permission, and asked why there should be procession for five days. ‘Don’t carry guns in procession, don’t carry bombs in the processions’, she said, alleging that Hindu devotees carried guns and bombs. She was heard saying, “Can’t you step up now and stop these rioters and goons? If women are with me, then I will show my power to the rioters…” Mamata Banerjee then called upon the students to come forward and stop the outbreak of violence in the State. “Ki sonkha loghu bhai bona ra, Allah Tallah er kache doye kore danaga baaj der khotom korte parbe na (Can’t my brothers and sisters from the minority community pray to Allah to finish off these rioters),” she said.

Notably, TMC and Mamata Banerjee skipped Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha which took place on 22nd January 2024 at Bhavya Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

The declaration of a public holiday on Ram Navami in West Bengal by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led state government is nothing more than a clear case of political opportunism. Uncanny for CM Banerjee, who has a notorious past of aversion to the ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan, this move is a bid to shed her “anti-Hindu” image specifically given the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

Mamata Banerjee has a history of reacting aggressively to the ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan. The state government’s move appears to be a calculated move to woo voters rather than an acknowledgement of cultural diversity. It underscores the willingness of the TMC chief to exploit religious sentiments for political gains.

If your husband says Modi, don’t serve him dinner, make them swear their vote for Kejriwal: Arvind Kejriwal asks women in return for his promised 1,000 Rs per month scheme

On Saturday (9th March), Delhi’s chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s convenor Arvind Kejriwal addressed a program organised to honour women after the announcement of the ‘Chief Minister Mahila Samman Yojana’. In this program, Arvind Kejriwal suggested that women should not serve dinner to their husbands if they keep saying Modi-Modi. Kejriwal also asked the women to make all the men in their house, husbands and sons, to swear on their heads to vote for Kejriwal.

In this program, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Get all the men in your house to vote. Many men are saying Modi-Modi. Only you can treat their minds. Can’t you? If your husband says ‘Modi’, then tell him ‘you won’t get anything in the dinner’. Make everyone swear on your head. Every husband has to listen to his wife. Isn’t it? And if a wife makes him swear on her head, he is bound to obey her. Similarly, all the mothers should make their sons swear on their heads and ask them to vote for Kejriwal this time. All the daughters should make their fathers and brothers swear on their heads and ask them to vote for Kejriwal.”

The event was arranged to engage with women following the announcement in the city government’s 2024-25 budget of the scheme to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 to all women aged 18 and above.

In this program, Arvind Kejriwal also said, “So far, fraud was going on in the name of women empowerment. All the parties say that they will empower women and in the name of empowerment, they appoint one woman of their party on some post and say that women have been empowered. When all women have money in their pockets, only then women empowerment will take place.”

Detailing his freebies scheme, Arvind Kejriwal added, “I will put a thousand rupees in every woman’s purse every month. Women empowerment does not happen with empty pockets. There will be empowerment only if there is money in the pocket. If you go to the market and there is no money in your pocket, then what kind of empowerment is it? Real women empowerment will happen when every woman gets Rs 1,000 per month. Ever since our government announced this scheme, discussions have been held everywhere, and people are speculating that now all seven seats are for Kejriwal.”

“Gave Rs 7 lakh to Udhayanidhi Stalin”: Former DMK leader and drug racket mastermind Jaffer Sadiq reportedly makes explosive revelation before NCB

Arrested earlier in the day (9th March) in connection with the Rs 2000 crore International drug racket, Former DMK leader and Tamil film producer Jaffer Sadiq has reportedly made explosive revelations before NCB officials. Sadiq who was absconding for several weeks, told NCB officials that he gave Rs 7 lakh to DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, India Today reported citing sources.

Based on sources, the report added that Sadiq told the authorities that he gave Rs 5 lakh to Udhayanidhi Stalin as funds to help during the flood last year, and the remaining Rs 2 lakh was given as funds for the party.

The sources further added that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin could be called in for questioning in connection with the case.

According to the report, the NCB is probing whether the money Jaffar Sadiq gave to Udhayanidhi Stalin was money he received as proceeds of the drug trafficking he was allegedly involved in.

Speaking with India Today TV, NCB deputy director general (operations) Gyaneshwar Singh said that they are writing to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the money laundering angle in the drug trafficking case. The NCB is also in touch with other agencies, added Singh.

According to the agency, Jaffar Sadiq is the kingpin in the International drug racket that was involved in Rs 2000 crore drug trafficking for several years. The racket was busted last month when three accused hailing from Tamil Nadu were arrested.

According to sources, during interrogation, the trio arrested last month had revealed that Sadiq was close to Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister and the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Additionally, Sadiq also reportedly had close links with other DMK leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP MM Abdullah and Chennai West district secretary of the party N Chitrarasu.

Former DMK leader, the alleged mastermind behind the International drug racket

Jaffar Sadiq Abdul Rehman is the founder of JSM Group of Companies. He entered into politics in 2010 and had been serving as the Chennai West deputy organiser of the DMK’s NRI wing until he was recently expelled by the DMK, last Sunday following the agency’s drug probe. However, the party didn’t mention any reason for his expulsion from the party.

A senior NCB officer, asking not to be named, earlier today said, “We are probing if drug money was used in his (Sadiq’s) production company. It looks like his production company was a front to launder money. He was on the run for the past two weeks.”

The agency said, “The accused (Jaffer Sadiq) earned huge amounts of money through drug trafficking and invested it in multiple industries like film, construction, hospitality etc.”

According to the central probing agency, a Tamil film named ‘Mangai’ was “entirely funded” by Jaffer Sadiq from drug money. He also constructed a hotel in Chennai.

According to the agency, Sadiq allegedly used to get ₹1 lakh per kg “cut” (commission) from the smuggling of narcotics.

Details of how the International drug racket was busted

The NCB in Delhi busted the sprawling drug trafficking network on 15th February this year, however, the officials shared this information on Saturday (24th February).

The operation was led by NCB officials in conjunction with the Delhi Police Special Cell. Three accused hailing from Tamil Nadu were arrested and the agencies seized 50 kilograms of pseudoephedrine, a key chemical used in the production of methamphetamine. It was revealed that the Tamil film producer Jaffer Sadiq is the mastermind of the racket who went absconding.

On 24th February, Gyaneshwar Singh said, “We received information from New Zealand customs authorities and Australian police that large quantities of pseudoephedrine concealed in desiccated coconut powder were being sent to both countries. Further inputs from the US DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) indicated that the source of the consignments was Delhi.”

Election Commissioner Arun Goel resigns ahead of Lok Sabha polls, ECI now left with only CEC as the other EC retired last month

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Election Commissioner Arun Goel on Saturday resigned from the post. His resignation has been accepted by the President.

“In pursuance of clause (1) of Section 11 of The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, the President is pleased to accept the resignation tendered by Shri Arun Goel, Election Commissioner with effect from the 09th March, 2024”, an official statement from the Ministry of Law and Justice read.

Meanwhile, the election dates are likely to be announced next week. With Goel’s resignation, the Election Commission is left only with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, because the EC already had a vacancy. The Commission as down to two members after the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey in February this year.

The government has already started the process of selecting a new EC in place of Pandey, but now they will have to make two new recruitments. The reason for the resignation just ahead of the general elections is not known.

Goel assumed charge as Election Commissioner (EC) of India on November 21, 2022. His appointment was challenged in the Supreme Court by the Association for Democratic Reforms, but the court had dismissed the petition in August last year.

He has also worked as Secretary, Ministry of Culture; Vice-Chairman, Delhi Development Authority; Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Labour and Employment; Joint Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

The Lok Sabha polls are slated to be held in April-May this year.

United Kingdom: Pro-Palestine protestor vandalises 110-year-old painting of Arthur Balfour, whose declaration led to the creation of Israel

The UK’s Cambridgeshire Police have launched an investigation into art vandalism after a pro-Palestine protestor vandalised a more than a century-old painting of British politician Arthur James Balfour who supported the Jewish homeland.

The accused vandal is reportedly associated with the organisation named Palestine Action. The group took to social media to share the video of the ‘art vandalism’. In the post, it stated that one of its activists had “ruined” a 1914 painting of Lord Balfour at Trinity College, part of the University of Cambridge.

It added, “Written in 1917, Balfour’s declaration began the ethnic cleansing of Palestine by promising the land away — which the British never had the right to do.”

In the video, a woman protestor can be seen destroying a historic 1914 painting of Lord Arthur James Balfour on Friday (8th March). She defaced the portrait by spraying red paint and then slashing the artwork with a sharp object. The artwork was painted by artist Philip Alexius de László and it was completed in 1914.

In another tweet, Palestine Action blamed the UK and its politician Arthur Balfour for its support for the creation of Israel using the hashtag “#BritainisGuilty”. It also added a link to an article in which the pro-Palestine group peddled the anti-Israel tropes. The group referred to Balfour as the “colonial administrator” alleging that the declaration paved the way for the “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians.

Taking to X, UK Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden condemned the incident. He tweeted, “Appalled by the moronic act of wanton vandalism. Perpetrators should face the full force of the law.”

The government’s adviser on political violence and disruption Lord Walney called it an “outrageous” incident. He said, “We must not tolerate protesters thinking they can get away with senseless damage because they think the importance of the cause gives them the moral high ground to cause mayhem.”

Regarding the incident, a Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said, “This afternoon we received an online report of criminal damage today to a painting at Trinity College, Cambridge. Officers are attending the scene to secure evidence and progress the investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage.”

Further, a spokeswoman for Trinity College said, “Trinity College regrets the damage caused to a portrait of Arthur James Balfour during public opening hours. The police have been informed. Support is available for any member of the college community affected.”

Balfour declaration 1917

Notably, Lord Arthur Balfour was the UK’s foreign secretary in 1917 when a declaration was made pledging Britain’s support for the establishment “in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”. Some Historians see it as a starting point for the Arab-Israeli conflict.

As Ottoman control weakened in the Middle East and Britain rose as a global power, Balfour’s declaration (2nd November 1917) said London would “view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and work toward it – albeit without prejudice “the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities.”

This marked the first public support from a major power for a Jewish homeland. It significantly bolstered the burgeoning Zionist movement worldwide and influenced the subsequent interim British “mandate” rule of Palestine from 1918 onwards.

Recurrent Art vandalism in recent times

In recent years, defacing art has become a popular tactic for protests. Environmental activists, in particular, have vandalised or defaced paintings by renowned artists such as van Gogh, Vermeer, and Monet. Notably, this year, two women associated with an environmental group entered the Louvre and splattered soup onto the Mona Lisa.

However, most of the targeted paintings were shielded or safeguarded in some manner, resulting in minimal damage.

More recently, pro-Palestinian demonstrators have also vandalised art in New York. Just this week, a few dozen protestors disrupted the opening of an Israeli artist’s exhibition at a gallery in Manhattan, as reported by Hyperallergic. Last month, protesters similarly disrupted an event featuring an Israeli artist showcasing drawings depicting Oct. 7 at the Jewish Museum. Additionally, dozens of protesters gathered at the Museum of Modern Art, chanting “Free Palestine” in a demonstration against an exhibit.

Pertinent to note that anti-Israel protests have swelled in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. On 7th October, thousands of Hamas terrorists, from land, sea, and air, stormed into Israeli territories and killed more than 1,200 Israelis, maimed, beheaded men, women, and babies, raped and paraded women, and kidnapped over 230 Israeli and foreign nationals. This prompted Israel to launch an all-out war against the terrorist group Hamas. After the aerial bombardment of Gaza, the Jewish state also launched a military offensive ground operation in Gaza.

Uttar Pradesh: Maulana Syed Mohammad Ashraf of Kichhauchha Dargah arrested for raping a female devotee from Mumbai, issued death threats to victim and her family

A 24-year-old young woman from Maharashtra’s Mumbai has reportedly been raped after visiting the Dargah in Ambedkarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The accused has been identified as a 50-year-old Maulana (cleric) named Syed Mohammad Ashraf of Kichhauchha region. The incident transpired on 7th March and the authorities arrested him on the next day after a case was submitted.

He is accused of instilling the fear of supernatural forces in the victim and committing the heinous crime. Afterwards, she was threatened that her entire family would be killed if she talked to anyone about it. The matter pertained to the Baskhari police station neighbourhood of Ambedkarnagar. Pilgrims from around the country travel to the popular Sharif Kichhauchhada Dargah. The woman who faced the shocking sexual violation was one of the devotees.

She came to Ambedkarnagar to visit the place with her family where she met the perpetrator who is also known as Shamshad inside the dargah. He first scared her in the name of evil spirits and then claimed to heal her with his spiritual powers. She was duped by his talks.

On the fateful day, the culprit took the woman to his room in the name of spiritual healing and sexually abused her after directing her family to stay outside under the pretence of religious medicinal practice. When she protested he threatened to kill her along with the rest of her family. The family members forced the door open after it remained closed for approximately an hour.

The woman sobbed and confided in them about the wrongdoings that had occurred as soon as the door opened. However, instead of apologising, the offender threatened them with dire consequences if anyone made a complaint regarding the instance.

Eventually, the woman mustered the courage to report him to the Baskhari police station in the area after which he was taken into custody and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered. He has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (punishment for sexual assault), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). He was apprehended by police on 8th March at around 9:00 in the morning from Jalalpur Road.

The woman has also undergone a medical examination. The issue is under investigation. The police have assured to conclude the probe into the case as soon as possible, file the charge sheet, and conduct the hearing in a fast-track court. According to the cops, steps are being taken to identify such individuals. Both the victim and the perpetrator are members of the same community.

Karan Morwal, expelled from Congress over rape accusations, seen with Rahul Gandhi and senior party leaders during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Controversial politician Karan Morwal, who was expelled from the Madhya Pradesh Congress over charges of rape, was recently seen with Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders, including former MP CM Digvijaya Singh, during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Pictures shared by media organisation Times Now showed Karan Morwal sitting next to Rahul Gandhi during the Madhya Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Earlier this week, on March 6, Karan shared photos of himself with Digvijay Singh and other Congress leaders. He mentioned that Digvijaya Singh had arrived in Badnagar to participate in Rahul Gandhi ji’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

“In the late hours, the former Chief Minister, Shri Digvijay Singh ji, arrived in Badnagar for Shri Rahul Gandhi ji’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. On this occasion, Raja Saheb interacted with the city’s businessmen as well as senior and junior members of the party, engaging in various discussions,” stated Karan Morwal.

In January of this year, Karan posted photos from the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, where he was pictured alongside Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari.

Karan Morwal was expelled from Congress in 2022 following rape charges filed against him

It is worth noting that Karan Morwal, the son of former Badnagar Congress MLA Murli Morwal, was expelled by the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in 2022 for six years following rape charges filed against him.

In October 2021, Karan was arrested after a woman filed a rape complaint against him at the women’s police station in Indore, as reported by PTI. Police officials stated that a reward of ₹25,000 was announced for his arrest at that time.

Karan Morwal was arrested near Maksi town in Shajapur district in connection with a rape case that was filed on April 2, 2021, in Indore. Allegedly, the woman claimed that he raped her under the guise of marriage.

Upon his expulsion from the Congress, MPCC organization secretary Chandra Prabhash Shekhar issued a letter to Karan Morwal stating that the party had investigated the allegations against him. It was found that prima facie, the allegations appear to be true, although the case is still pending in the court of law.
