Police cancel Munawar Faruqui’s Bangalore show on complaint of Hindu group, the comedian claims it was cancelled due to his health issues

So-called comedian Munawar Faruqui lied about missing his flight due to health issues which had led to the cancellation of his Bangalore show on Friday, as it has come to light that the show was cancelled on the directions of the Police following a letter of opposition by the Hindu organisation Jai Shri Ram Sena. Faruqui was scheduled to present his solo show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ in Bangalore today, which he has already presented in several other cities and is scheduled to present in more cities in the coming days as part of his comedy tour.

After his show in Bangalore was cancelled today, Munawar Faruqui posted on Instagram that he missed his flight due to his health issues, and the program has been postponed to next week. But now it has been revealed that his health was not the reason for the cancellation, as the police directed the organisers to cancel the show.

Sources known to OpIndia confirm that Jai Shri Ram Sena (JSRS) gave a memorandum to the Puttenhalli police station asking to cancel the show of Faruqui since he is accused in an ongoing criminal case of making insulting remarks about Hindu deities. The event’s organiser was then instructed to cancel the event by the police station’s SHO, who had called him.

As there was no response from the organisers, the JSRS activists went to the Deputy Commissioner of Police South Bangalore, who subsequently sent a communication to the organiser directing that Faruqui’s show be cancelled. In a statement, DCP P Krishnakant said that Munawar Faruqui did not have permission to conduct the event therefore his event was cancelled.

The memorandum by JSRS reads, “We bring to your kind notice that this Talk Show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ is planned propaganda to mock Hindu gods and goddesses as evident in previous programs of Munawar Faruqui. It is a serious matter of hate speech and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Mr Faruqui whilst not having any knowledge about the Hindu scriptures or Hindu dharma, is influencing a negative and offensive view of the most respected Hindu dharma, without any basis. There is enough proof and evidence of hurting religious sentiments by the lead of the show Munawar Faruqui.”

The memorandum by JSRS.

“In light of the seriousness of the matter, we would like to request your support to cancel the Talk Show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ and restrict such self-proclaimed comedians from insulting and hurting religious sentiments of Hindu Gods and Goddesses,” it further reads. JSRS Bangalore coordinator Ramdoot Sanjith handed over the memorandum to the police. The delegation included Ramdoot Gajraj, Ramdoot Sagar, Ramdoot Ganesh, And Ramdoot Abhay.

The show by Munawar Faruqui was scheduled to be held at MLR Convention Centre in Bangalore on Friday. The tickets for the event were sold through Book My Show.

In another incident concerning Faruqui, police in Hyderabad arrested a BJP MLA over his objection to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui’s ‘Dongri To Nowhere’ show in Hyderabad scheduled for tomorrow. MLA T Raja Singh has been vocal in his objection to Faruqui’s performance in Hyderabad. The MLA had requested that the police prevent Faruqui from performing in Hyderabad but the police arrested him instead of acting on his request.

It is notable that Munawar Faruqui had to face a massive outrage from Hindus after his insulting remarks on the Hindu deities. His shows were cancelled one after the other at various locations like BengaluruGoa, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Kolkata, etc.

Bangladesh: Hindu man stabbed for protesting against daughter’s harassment; Miraj, Farhad among 3 arrested

On August 12, a Hindu man Neel Madhav Saha was beaten and stabbed after he objected to the eve-teasing of his daughter. The incident took place at the Vishwa Vidyalaya railway station in Rajshahi in Bangladesh.

As per reports, a girl (named withheld) was en route her coaching centre when she was harassed by two men. The accused were identified as Miraj (aka Irfan Khan) and Prince. The victim is a student of the Rajshahi Govt. Women’s College.

She was rescued by a man named Emon, who intervened and helped her reach the coaching centre. On the same evening, Miraj and Prince thrashed the 46-year-old father of the victim, Neel Madhav Saha.

He was brutally stabbed with a knife and hit on the head with a hammer at around 7 pm on August 12, following a heated argument with the duo. While speaking to the media, Saha said, “They used to harass my daughter. Emon is the friend of the accused Prince. When Emon tried to stop the accused, he was intimidated.”

He informed, “Prince told me that we will have to pay him every month if we wanted to live. Else, we will have you get our daughter married to him.” When the victim’s father confronted him about his objectionable remarks, he was stabbed

“Miraj hit on my head with a hammer. They held me by my vest and legs…They wanted to take my life,” the victim’s father narrated. He named one Mamun, Farad, Reham, Akher and Robin for carrying out a deadly assault on him.

Initial Police inaction and later arrests in the case

The accused looted money from his pocket, besides the chain of his wife. With blood oozing out of his wounds, he went to the nearby police station. But it was in vain. He was admitted to the nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

The victim’s father accused the hospital authorities and the police of laxity in taking action. When Saha first went to the Chandrima police station, the cops refused to register a case and asked him to receive treatment first.

Afterwards, they told him to visit the Motihar police stations. The cops refused to register a FIR and claimed that the case fell under the jurisdiction of the Railway Police Force. Sadly, they too refused to entertain him.

It was only after he addressed the media on August 17 that the Railway police registered the case against the accused. On the same day, the Rapid Action Batallion (RAB) arrested 3 people in connection to the case. They included Miraj (23), Farhad (27) and Akher (32).

Interestingly, Miraj and Farhad are members of the Chhatra League, the student wing of the Bangladesh Awami League. The duo are also followers of Ruhul Amin, who serves as the Vice-President of the Rajshahi Mahanagar Chhatra League.

“We are minorities and faced with all forms of coercion tactics. We will have to die or commit suicide or run to India. None has come forward to help us…We want justice. We want a free and fair rule of law. My daughter is not able to study. My wife is unable to restart her parlour,” he pleaded.

Even so, the incident took place at a time when Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina proclaimed that minorities in Bangladesh enjoy the same rights as the Muslim majority. However, with the Hindus in the country facing attacks regularly, Hasina’s anodyne proclamations appear nothing more than lip service aimed at containing growing resentment.

Hindu woman gang-raped, disrobed and killed in a paddy field

On July 29 this year, the dead body of a Hindu woman was discovered in a paddy field in the Kumar para area in the Bhervedi Union in the Dinajpur district of Bangladesh.

As per reports, the deceased woman was identified as Apo Rani Roy. She was returning to her husband’s home from her paternal house. Later, her disrobed body was found in a paddy field. A 10-year-old girl named Bipasha Rani Roy was also found in an unconscious state near the victim’s body.

On finding Apo Rani Rani in a lifeless state, the passersby called for help and informed the police. The cops reached the spot and recovered her body. The minor girl was then admitted to the Sub-Divisional Health complex.

According to the victim’s family, Alo Rani Roy has been gang-raped by unidentified criminals. They claimed that the victim was murdered to prevent her from identifying the accused men.

In a video shared by ISKCON spokesperson Radharamn Das, the 10-year-old could be heard saying, “My mother held my hand tightly. She begged the perpetrators to let me go. She kept on asking them: What have we done to you? They grabbed me by my neck and hit me on the head. I fainted but they believed that I was dead.”

“I don’t know what happened to my mother after that.” Later in the video, the minor girl was seen bursting into tears and asking, “What have we done to deserve this?” Apo Rani Roy is now survived by her husband and daughter.

Russia’s Gazprom trolls Siemens Energy over ‘lonely’ turbine that has been the centre of conflict over Nordstream 1 supplies to Europe

A turbine has been sitting lonely for quite a long time. The Siemens Energy turbine that has become the unlikely point of legal and diplomatic conflict amid the Russia-Ukraine war was again pushed to the limelight when Siemens asked people to suggest songs for it.

“Our famous turbine is still not where it should be. It’s standing around lonely at our site in Mülheim. Let’s do the poor thing a favour and create a Spotify playlist. What should be included? We’ll start with “So Lonely” by the @ThePoliceBand… what are your suggestions?” Siemens Energy tweeted on August 17.

As people around the world started suggesting songs for the ‘lonely’ turbine, Russian energy giant Gazprom, which has halted gas supply to Europe citing the lack of that particular turbine, chipped in.

“Why don’t you take this track?” Gazprom tweeted, sharing a link for ‘Breaking the Law’ by Judas Priest.

Gazprom’s tweet trolling Siemens Energy

Gazprom is not the only one trolling Siemens though. A number of people have shared tweets shaming Siemens, Germany and Canada for humiliating themselves. Some even accused Siemens of helping a dictator, by ensuring energy supplies to Europe from Russia.

What is the turbine and why is it the centre of a major energy conflict between Russia and Europe?

The turbine in question is a Siemens SGT-A65, a giant 12-metre, 20-tonne turbine that was a part of the Nordstream 1 pipeline at the Portovaya compressor station. Russian energy giant Gazprom, which operates the Nordstream 1 pipeline and supplies natural gas to Europe via the Baltic Sea, had cited maintenance issues and faulty operations in that turbine and had cut gas supplies to almost 20%.

That Siemens turbine was then sent to Germany, and from there, it went to Canada’s Montreal where Siemens’ facility is located. As the EU nations and Canada have all imposed severe economic sanctions against Russia, the transit of the turbine needed special permissions and much diplomatic efforts. The delay and diplomatic tussle were mainly due to the NATO nations’ own sanctions against Russia.

On July 10, Canada’s minister of natural resources Jonathan Wilkinson stated that Canada will allow a ‘time-limited and revocable’ to enable Siemens Energy to send the turbine back to Germany. The turbine was sent for maintenance to Siemens after 10 years of use, as per reports. Germany and other NATO nations have been accusing Russia of citing false excuses to reduce gas supplies and using energy as a weapon. But Russia insists that the problems are due to the heavy sanctions that the EU and NATO nations have imposed against Russia.

Earlier this month, Siemens had stated that they have provided all documentation to Russia and the customs papers for the transit of the turbine have to be provided by Gazprom. Russia says that at least six gas pumping units are needed to maintain supplies and due to delays from Siemens’ end, only one of them is in fully working condition at their compressor station at Portovaya. Gazprom has accused Siemens of not fulfilling its obligations under the law.

Early in August, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had visited Siemens’ facility in Mulheim, Germany where the ‘repaired’ turbine was kept. He had posed for photographs with the turbine and had asked Russia to take it back, and restore gas supplies to earlier levels.

While Germany accuses Gazprom and Russia of not taking the turbine back, Gazprom and Russia blame Siemens (and Germany) for not repairing the machines and causing delay, indirectly insisting that Germany has itself to blame for the reduced supply of energy via the Nordstream pipeline.

The war between Russia and Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions by NATO nations against Russia has exposed the extreme dependency of European nations upon Russian supplies. It is notable here that while most Western nations and their media commentators try to blame India for buying cheap Russian oil, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that they have been paying Russia billions of dollars every month for oil, coal and gas.

A curious reality of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is that while Western powers provide billions in aid and weapons to Ukraine, they also keep paying billions to Russia for energy, thus funding both sides of a conflict.

Delhi Police arrests Hawala operator Mohammed Yaseen, was involved in funding of LeT, Al-Badr terrorists in Kashmir

On Friday, the Delhi Police arrested a 48-year-old man named Mohammed Yaseen for his alleged involvement in executing hawala transactions of terror organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Al Badr. Yaseen was arrested in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and central agencies.

According to the reports, the arrested Mohammed Yaseen operated as a hawala agent and executed the hawala transactions of various terror organizations. He is a resident of Turkman Gate, Delhi, and was arrested from there on August 19.

The Delhi Police took action against Yaseen based on the intel inputs received from the central agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The Central agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police stated that a person was engaged in funding terror organizations and operating terror activities from the Meena Bazar area of Old Delhi. “Accordingly, we deployed a raid team in and around Meena Bazar and apprehended him.” the police said.

Special commissioner of police (special cell) HGS Dhaliwal revealed on August 17 that Yaseen had given around Rs 10 lakh to terror operative Abdul Hamid Mir of Jammu and Kashmir for anti-India activities in the state. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had also registered a case in this regard and arrested Poonch-resident Mir from the Jammu bus stand along with the amount.

Reports mention that Yaseen who is a resident of Old Delhi is a garment trader by profession, but works as an operator of hawala money. He collects funds from his sources abroad and delivers them to various terror organizations in Jammu and Kashmir. The Police interrogated Yaseen to discover that he worked as the Delhi link in the hawala chain. “Yaseen revealed that the hawala money is sent from South Africa via Surat and Mumbai. The money is then despatched to Jammu and Kashmir through different couriers”, the Police added.

The Police further said that the arrested accused recently received Rs 24 lakh from South Africa, of which he transferred Rs 17 lakh through two different couriers to terror operatives in Jammu and Kashmir. The Police recovered Rs 7 lakh from his house during the search operation.

4 Congress workers, including staff of Rahul Gandhi arrested for vandalising Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait at his Wayanad office

Police have arrested four Congress workers, including MP Rahul Gandhi’s own staff members, for vandalising a Mahatma Gandhi portrait at his Wayanad office in June of this year. The office of the Wayanad MP was vandalised on June 24 this year.

Police in Kalpetta arrested Rahul Gandhi’s PA Ratheesh Kumar, office staff Rahul, and Congress leaders Noushad and Mujeeb on Friday. According to reports, the Congress workers were arrested after a month-long investigation.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Congress party blamed the vandalism on CPIM’s student wing SFI. Miscreants had reportedly invaded Rahul Gandhi’s office and clashed with Congress members present there.

It is notable here that some people had earlier shared on social media that the Mahatma Gandhi photo was intact during the attack by SFI, but later Congress workers of the office had put the photo on the ground and had clicked photos blaming SFI for it.

Attack on Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad

Following a recent Supreme Court order requiring every protected forest tract and wildlife sanctuary to have an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) of one kilometre from its boundaries, over 100 SFI workers reportedly marched to Gandhi’s office in Kalpetta, Wayanad district headquarters, demanding that the Congress MP intervene to allay the concerns of people in his constituency.

A number of SFI activists allegedly barged into Gandhi’s office as the march reached, assaulted staff members, and vandalised office equipment. Police were there, however, accounts suggest that they did not halt the march before the protesters vandalised the office.

A few SFI employees were later taken into custody by the police, but Congress supporters headed by party legislator T Siddique staged a demonstration in Kalpetta, where they engaged in violence with officers and blocked the roadway till late at night.

Late at night, the Kalpetta Deputy Superintendent of Police was suspended after the Chief Minister instructed the Additional DGP at the state police headquarters to investigate the matter. Additionally, the CM gave the Home Secretary a week to produce a report on the incident.

Punjab: Teenage basketball player pushed off stadium roof after she resisted rape attempt, suffers multiple fractures

In a shocking development in the Moga district of Punjab, a teenage basketball player suffered multiple fractures as she was pushed off the stadium roof after she resisted a rape attempt by three youths. The incident took place on 12th August 2022. According to reports, the 18-year-old girl was admitted to a private hospital in Ludhiana for treatment of injuries to both her legs and her jaw. According to her father, the accused is her ‘good friend’ who along with two others had pushed her off the roof after she resisted their rape attempt.

The police sources said that all the three accused in this incident are still absconding and the police are searching for them. Gulneet Khurana, senior superintendent of police in Moga, stated on Thursday that raids are being conducted to apprehend the suspects.

In his complaint, the victim’s father said that his daughter had gone to the Moga stadium to practice. The father in the complaint said that he received a call from an unknown person at around 7:30 pm, who asked him to reach the city’s civil hospital as his daughter was brought there following an accident. In the FIR, he also revealed that the accused Jatin Kanda and his daughter were good friends.

“Jatin Kanda among others took the 18-year-old basketball player forcibly to the stadium where the three accused tried to sexually assault her and when she resisted, she was pushed from the roof of the stadium,” the father mentioned in the FIR.

Earlier when the girl was admitted at the hospital following the incident, it was assumed to be an attempt to suicide case. But now it has been revealed that it was an attempt to rape case.

Jatin Kanda, one of the suspects, is charged with trying to rape her at the stadium. He reportedly shoved her off from a height of around 25 feet as she fought and attempted to flee, gravely injuring her in several places. Jatin and his two accomplices have been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to kill) and 376 (rape).

The law and order situation in Punjab has become a matter of concern since the new government is formed in the state. In the state assembly elections held in February 2022, Aam Aadmi Party got a clear majority and it formed a government led by Bhagwant Mann. In May 2022, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was murdered just one day after his security was removed by the state government.

Popular Instagram influencer gets media coverage and wishes from Ravish Kumar as they take his sarcastic post in all seriousness

Madhur Singh, a popular influencer on Instagram, is being talked about in mainstream media organisations and has also received wishes on social media, including by NDTV journalist Ravish Kumar, over a sarcastic post they took in all seriousness.

Taking to LinkedIn, the employment-oriented online service that operates via websites and mobile apps for job seekers and employers, Singh uploaded a post with his picture beside a brand new car, explaining how saving money from all the means possible has helped him fulfil his dream of buying a car.

Source: Twitter

In the sarcastic post, Singh said he has been saving money for years to buy a new car. He added that he skipped going to parties with friends, did not buy expensive gifts for her girlfriend or wife, and asked his vegetable vendor to give him free ‘dhaniya mirchi’ to save money to purchase the car.

“I want to thank my parents, my ex-bosses, ex and current girlfriends, and lastly to all those sabzi walas who supported me always,” said the conclusion on Singh’s post.

Many others were quick to decipher the underlying sarcasm in the post.

Ravish Kumar, however, can seek solace in the fact that he was not alone to be fooled by Singh’s sardonic post. There were some who took Singh’s post so seriously that they were wondering how he can have a girlfriend along with a wife.

The Instagram influencer’s post got coverage in mainstream media organisations, including India Today, which was not sure what to make of the post and if the claims made in the post were true.

Goa becomes the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified state, PM says 10 crore rural households provided piped water

The Centre on Thursday released the list of Har Ghar Jal certified states to declare that the state of Goa had topped the list with every household there having access to clean water through taps. Along with this, the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli has become the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified UT.

According to reports, the people from the state and the UT have passed a resolution and have declared their village as ‘Har Ghar Jal’. The Ministry said the villages have claimed that all the houses within have access to clean and safe tap water, ensuring that no one is left out. “All 2.63 lakh rural households of Goa and 85,156 of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have access to potable water through tap connections”, the Ministry said.

The Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship program of the Centre, was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2019. The mission’s goal is to offer enough potable tap water supply to every rural family in the country by 2024. The Centre is implementing the initiative in collaboration with the states and UTs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the initiative on Friday and said that around 10 crore rural households in India have access to clean water through pipes with around 7 crore rural families getting connected in the last three years. “This is among the biggest success of the central government’s campaign to deliver water to each house”, he said while virtually addressing the Har Ghar Jal Utsav being held in Goa.

“This is no ordinary achievement. In 7 decades of Independence, only 3 crore rural households in the country had piped water facilities”, PM said. He further highlighted three important milestones related to the huge goal that India is working on in Amritkaal. He stated that 10 crore houses getting access to clean tap water was a great example of Sabka Prayas.

He congratulated the state of Goa and UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and said that every rural household in the country will get a potable tap water supply by 2024. The Prime Minister meanwhile mentioned the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as the country’s third achievement. “A few years ago, the country was certified open defecation free. Thanks to the efforts of all citizens. Following this, we determined to establish village ODF plus. In this sense, the country has also reached significant accomplishments. More than one lakh villages in various parts of the country are now ODF plus”, he noted.

According to government data released yesterday, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas our Sabka Prayas’, more than 52% of rural households across the country are now linked to clean water supplying taps, up from 17% when the transformational mission was launched on August 15, 2019.

‘Woman beater, sadistic sick *#uk’: Ex-girlfriend Somy Ali asks people to stop worshiping Salman Khan

Somy Ali, the former girlfriend of Bollywood actor Salman Khan posted a cryptic post on her Instagram account on Friday taking a jibe at her ex-boyfriend. Calling him a ‘woman beater’ in the caption, she urged people to stop ‘worshipping’ the actor.

Sharing a poster of Salman Khan’s 1989 debut film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and without naming the actor, Somy Ali wrote, “A women beater, and not just me, but many. Stop worshipping him please. He’s a sadistic sick *#uk. You have no idea.”

Meanwhile, Somy limited her comment section.

Though as ususal, Somy Ali did not mention who she was referring to in her post, it is clear from the picture attached that she was hinting toward Salman Khan. The picture she had attached was from Salman Khan’s debut movie ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’.

This is, however, not the first time Somy Ali has taken a dig at Khan. In March this year, she had posted a photo on her Instagram handle which is a still image from Salman Khan’s debut film Maine Pyar Kiya. In the caption of the photo, she wrote, “The Harvey Weinstein of Bollywood! You will be exposed. The women you abused will come out one day and share their truth. Just like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.”

However, hours after uploading the post, Somy Ali deleted it.

Allegations against Salman Khan are not new

As such, Salman Khan is not new to controversies. Allegations of abusing his co-workers, especially women, have often been levelled against him. In a press conference held on 1st April 2003, actor Vivek Oberoi alleged that Salman Khan had called him 41 times in a night and threatened him. Vivek Oberoi had also alleged that Salman Khan first asked him about his love affairs if any and that later in the same call Salman Khan told Vivek Oberoi that he had physical relationships with Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, and Somy Ali. There have been media reports of the actor showing aggressive behaviour towards his former girlfriends, including Aishwarya and Katrina.
