Darjeeling MP Raju Bista demands CBI inquiry, video-recorded autopsy of slain BJP worker, says family coerced to sign post-mortem documents

In the wake of senior BJP worker Ulen Roy’s death, who reportedly succumbed to splinter injuries caused by the country bombs during the clashes between the BJP members and police in Siliguri, Raju Bista, Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and spokesperson for the BJP, has written a letter to Governor Jagdeep Dhankar, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Home Secretary, Director General of Police, DM Darjeeling, DM Jalpaiguri, SP Darjeeling and SP Jalpaiguri, requesting them to conduct the autopsy of the slain worker by a panel of three doctors. He has also demanded that the entire process be video recorded.

In another letter, addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he also requested a CBI inquiry into the death of Roy.

Alleging that the TMC government would try to subvert the course of justice, Bista alleged in his letter that the death of Roy could be attributed to the “unlawful actions of the police”, citing police excesses on BJP workers in West Bengal, where close to 150 BJP workers have been killed in the past two years for their political beliefs.

The BJP spokesperson added that the incident has served to erode the faith of people from local administration and the West Bengal police. Bista cites that the people have an apprehension that Mr Roy’s death would be reported as suicide or death by other means and is therefore requesting to have his post-mortem conducted in presence of three doctors with complete video-recording of the autopsy.

Raju Bista accuses WB government of conducting an illegal and unlawful post-mortem of Ulen Roy

Bista had also alleged that the West Bengal government had tried to conduct an illegal and unlawful post-mortem in the middle of the night in no one’s presence, in a bid to sweep under the rug the cold-blooded murder of the BJP worker. He said that the family members of the victim were coerced into signing the papers.

Medico Legal Report of BJP worker Ulen Roy

“This post-mortem goes against all established protocols and was a direct attempt by TMC police to manipulate evidence,” Bista said, adding, “We will not permit this blatant subversion of justice and we will seek immediate intervention from the courts to ensure proper post-mortem of the dead body by an expert panel of doctors. So that truth about this murder can be revealed to the people.”

The Member of Parliament from Darjeeling further pointed out that in the Emergency Assessment note, the attending doctor at Maharaj Agrasen Health Centre Dr. Asif Khan noted that the “patient was brought by mob at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital emergency in gasping condition and multiple pellet marks on B/L chest wall and upper abdomen”. This, Bista contends proves that despite their denial, West Bengal police resorted to firing upon peaceful protestors, which resulted in the death of Roy.

Emergency Assessment Sheet of Ulen Roy

“We will not permit anyone associated with this murder to walk away free. All those responsible will be brought to justice. We won’t let TMC get away with the murder of innocent civilians,” Bista said.

BJP worker Ulen Roy succumbs to his injuries after clashes between BJP workers and WB police

On December 7, West Bengal had become a war zone when the police attacked BJP workers during a protest against the WB government at Tinbatti. BJP leader Tejasvi Surya, highlighting the police brutalities against peaceful protestors said, “Many BJP workers injured during their peaceful protest. Democracy being murdered in WB.”

As per the reports, police had used tear gas shells & water cannon on BJP Yuva Morcha workers. Surya had levelled serious allegations against the West Bengal police, claiming that they had attacked the BJYM workers with crude bombs. While several were injured, one senior BJP worker, Ulen Roy was confirmed dead. Surya said, “Sri Ulen Roy, a senior BJP karyakarta, succumbed to splinter injuries caused by the country bombs that Mamata’s police threw.”

West Bengal: BJP worker dies in bomb blast, here are some ‘liberals’ who find it funny

On December 7, West Bengal police used batons, tear gas, and water cannons to stop peaceful protesters in two rallies organized by Bharatiya Janata Party. There were reports that TMC goons were also standing with the WB police and hurdled country-made bombs on the protesters. The protest was against the Mamata Banerjee government for ignoring the under-developed North West Bengal. Over a hundred people were injured, and one senior Karyakarta, Sri Ulen Roy, died.

Amidst all the unfortunate events that took place yesterday, some ‘liberals’ have found something funny in the dead of a Karyakarta. Here are some insensitive posts made by the ‘liberals’ on social media platforms.

The self-proclaimed stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra said, “Honest Mountain Dew ad – Daar ke aage daar hai.” Several so-called celebrities like Ammy Virk have replied to him mocking Tejasvi Surya.

Now-deleted tweet by Twitter influencer Catwomaniya

National SM Team of Aam Aadmi Party, Vikash mocked the incident and wrote, “Nahi darenge, nahi darenge BOOM”. A netizen replied and called the video a “meme material.”

Priyanka Sacheti, a freelance columnist who has written for several agencies including Guardian, Scroll, Livemint and others laughed out quite loud at a blast which claimed life of an individual.

Raj Shekhar Sen, a podcaster and columnist who have written for agencies like News laundry said, “When you ask Narendra about his China policy.” In another tweet, quoting the same video he wrote, “This moment describes me right as I think I’ve gathered the courage to see my dad with report card in hand.”

Liberals have a history of mocking and making fun of those who have fallen sick or died if they do not stand in sync with their ideology. Some time back, when Home Minister Amit Shah was tested positive for Covid-19, the social media platforms got flooded with hateful messages. Last year, after demise of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, liberals had celebrated her death.

Farmers’ Bharat Bandh: How it resembles nefarious designs of Shaheen Bagh Chakka Jam and why govt must consider it sedition

Running a state, especially one like India, is not a very easy task. There are way too many dynamics to juggle, small by-lanes over which one may not have much direct control, groups with vested interests, cultural and religious push and pulls, a separate establishment, parts of which are funded by various foreign players giving it their all to scratch festering societal wounds, history of war and subjugation by invading armies, various demands that often border on asinine, so on and so forth. With these varied factors and so many more, the government of India, especially the Modi government that defied the establishment to come to power in 2014 and get re-elected in 2019, seems to be hopping from one artificially created crisis to another.

One recalls so many falsely created crisis situations that the Modi government has fought over the past 6 years. From the Rafale saga to the death of Judge Loya and the false accusations that came with it, to Islamists trying to urge average Muslims to burn the country post-Ayodhya verdict, the anti-CAA conspiracy, the riots that followed and the propaganda that came with it, to now, the farmers protest that have been hijacked by Khalistanis.

While all of these are worrying, India has, over the decades, developed an innate defence mechanism to all of these artificially created issues that keep boiling over from time to time. We keep walking.

Even during the Coronavirus pandemic, Indian citizens first stayed at home as ordered, and then, just went about their work. We find ignoring problems and praying they go away works better for us than forcing the government to act – after all, we have had governments that never bothered to listen to its people for decades, until PM Modi came along.

The ‘liberals’ and the establishment that works independently of the government sensed that. After the anointment of PM Modi as the head of the state, people had more faith. They knew that they could simply go about their lives and the contentious issues would take care of themselves. Charges of corruption have been taken rather seriously in this country in the recent past. Heck, a new political party was born and even managed to win Delhi based on the promise to fight corruption. Of course, that did not happen, but it showed people that India was willing to tackle corruption and there was a thirst for a party that would promise to do that.

While this is still true, why did the Rafale ‘scam’ trope fail to invoke any sort of anger amongst the masses? Simply put, PM Modi has managed to invoke that faith in the people that had long vanished. A faith that had been betrayed so many times that it gave rise to the humiliating idea that this is how things function in India, and nobody can really change it. PM Modi changed that. And the establishment knows it.

So what is their fall-back plan? Calling him a mass-murderer did not work. Accusing him of corruption failed. Calling him Hitler who was conspiring to kill the oh-so-innocent Muslims (who they wanted to compare to Jews) did not work. Discrediting institutions like the judiciary did not work. Discrediting the armed forces during the surgical strikes did not work. Discrediting India when China unleashed its blood-hounds did not work. Nothing seemed to work for the establishment.

That realisation must have hit them like a ton of bricks. None of their falsely created tropes diminished the faith that people had reposed in the Prime Minister.

When none of it worked, they devised a plan to almost punish the people who had reposed their faith in the Prime Minister. Thus began the saga of the anti-CAA riots and what culminated into the Delhi Riots.

While there were myriad of other factors like shaming India internationally, retaliating for the Ayodhya verdict and getting international attention while pushing the ‘Muslims under attack’ trope, the phenomenon that raised its ugly head during the Delhi Riots was ‘Chakka Jam’. A way to cripple the national capital and ultimately, the entire country.

“There are over 30% urban Muslims in UP. Do you have no shame at all? Why cannot you do Chakkajam in UP? The area in Bihar where I am from, the rural Muslim population is 6% while the urban Muslim population is 24%. Indian Muslims mostly live in cities. So it is upon you. You can bring your cities to a halt. If anyone asks you not to, disown them”.

Further, in another video, amidst controversial slogans of “Allah-u-Akbar” and “Naara-e-Taqbeer”, a stunning revelation was made about how rallies organised by Kanhaiya Kumar can be used to instigate 5 lakh Muslims to create riots.

“If 5 lakhs Muslims are organised then we can cut the North-east from rest of India. If we cannot do permanently, at least we can cut North-east from India for months. Our responsibility is to cut the Assam from India then Govt will hear our voice. If we have to help the Assam then we will have to cut the Assam from rest of India.”

These were the words of JNU student and The Wire columnist Sharjeel Imam. The Islamist who is now being credited with organising the Delhi Riots to a large extent. He wanted to get Muslims to bring cities to a halt. He wanted Muslims to do Chakka Jam and occupy Chicken’s Neck (which is a 22 Km strip that connects the rest of India to the Northeast), thereby cutting Northeast off from the rest of India. He wanted Muslims on the road, everywhere, throughout the country, to ensure that we come to a standstill. We, of course, should not forget that he was the mastermind of Shaheen Bagh. And the aim of Shaheen Bagh was to do exactly that. Disrupt peace and civil liberties of other citizens of the city, in the name of protest, with the help of the Islamist media – they succeeded in doing that for a long time.

And what then? Once the country comes to a standstill, what was the next plan?

They would do exactly what AAP leader Tahir Hussain did. In his disclosure statement, Tahir Hussain reveals a sinister plan. He admitted that they had blocked the poolia with thousands of Muslims, and thus, no matter what they did, the police would never be able to breach that mob and enter the area where they were killing Hindus like Ankit Sharma.

He says in his signed Disclosure Statement that according to his plan, he had made several calls to PCR and the Police officers from his own mobile phone to protect himself from taking the blame for the riots that he had engineered and to give himself an alibi. He says he knew that no matter how large the police force was, they would not be able to cross the Pulia because thousands of Muslims had congregated there. Moreover, the Muslim mob was pelting the police force with stones and bricks to ensure that they are chased away. He also said that the mob was burning Hindu homes on both sides of the bridge.

So what would have happened if Sharjeel Imam had succeeded in getting all Muslims, across the country, to get on the streets and block cities? Would a carnage then be unleashed upon Hindus? Would the Islamists then take revenge from those who threw the establishment out and voted for PM Modi? Tahir Hussain does, after all, say that the aim of the riot was to ‘teach Kafirs a lesson’.

Was that the plan all along? To teach people a lesson? To block roads so the security forces can do absolutely nothing and then, they are free to do what they want?

It would certainly seem so. It would seem that unleashing violence, carnage and disruption on the people of the nation is the only political tool they have left. They probably hope that the people of the country would get so sick of the disruption and the violence, that faith would turn into anger and that anger, instead of being released on the Islamists and Leftists who are actually disrupting lives, would be expressed on Modi and that would result in his ouster.

It did not work, really. The carnage, the propaganda, the disruption, the attempt to halt cities only exposed the establishment more. But they did make headway. They proved that the Shaheen Bagh model worked, to the extent that guilt-tripping the government with propaganda about how it was being done by elderly grannies would get them to not really force, as they should have, given that this was an attempt to bring the country to a halt – by all measures, a traitorous venture.

They have now decided to stick to this model and duplicate it, with only the cause changing.

The Chakka Jam and Bharat Bandh in lieu of the farmers’ agitation is just that – a replication of the Shaheen Bagh model. The cause has changed from anti-CAA to farm bills and the elderly grannies have been replaced with ‘farmers who put food on our table’. The model is the same. Guilt-tripping is the same. Propaganda is the same.

Back then, if you question the ‘Hum Dekhenge’ posters or the ‘Jinnah waali azadi’ slogans, you were monsters who stood against frail, old grannies who were trying to fight for their right. Today, when you question the Khalistani involvement, the boasting about bumping off Indira Gandhi, the death threats to the head of the state and the exalting of Bhinderewal, you are monsters who are demonising poor farmers who put food on your table.

Every time they wish to peddle an illegitimate agenda laden with lies, they create an exalted group that must not be questioned. The grannies of Shaheen Bagh were old and frail, but if they wanted to disrupt the nation and create anarchy, they must be thrown in jail. Farmers do put food on our table, but they are not an exalted group beyond question or reproach. They get remunerated for their produce by the people who buy that produce. The fair trade cannot be painted as a charity to ensure that even the Khalistani agenda of a section of those protesting goes unquestioned. It cannot be used as an excuse to shut down the obvious questions about how farmers from other states are not protesting or how they are now protesting the very amendments that they had demanded just a few years ago.

During CAA, they twisting the laws to say that Muslims would lose their citizenship. They lied blatantly. Now, they are twisting farm laws, the very amendments that the farmer bodies and political parties had themselves demanded, to make it anti-farmer. Then, it was about radical Muslims and Leftists being involved. Now, it is about Khalistanis and even radical Muslims. Then, the media shielded them. Now, the media shields them too. Then, the international community got involved with several countries decrying CAA, now, we see the same with Canada and the UK getting involved. Then, the international media rode on the backs of domestic Islamists and Leftist media to tarnish India, we see the same today.

None of this is about the right to protest. It is about their “right” to bring the nation to a halt to blackmail the state into giving them what they want – politically. It is about politics. It is about holding the back of Modi’s head and rubbing his nose in the mud. It is not about rights or laws. There is no problem with the laws. They are just an excuse to bring the government of India down and humiliate them in front of the international community with the held of a pliant, sold-out media.

It is time that the government outlaws these tactics. People have a right to protest, even if they are protesting for the wrong reasons and lying through their yellow teeth for political ends. What they don’t have the right to do is hold a nation hostage for political ends.

Whether it is the BJP government at the centre or a Congress govt. Whether one agrees with the politicise or not, bringing the nation to a halt or even attempting to do so, should invite charges that equal sedition and should be treated as an act of war against the state. Because it is.

Galactic Federation of aliens stopped Donald Trump from disclosing their existence, claims former Israeli space security chief

Aliens do exist and not only do they exist, they have been in dealing with authorities in the USA and Israel for years. And if that seems fantastical, wait till you hear this: There exists a Galactic Federation of Extra Terrestrials and the cooperation between aliens and humans includes an underground base in Mars which has the presence of Americans and alien representatives.

These are not claims we are making. These are the claims of retired Israeli general and current professor Haim Eshed. He has served as the head of Israel’s space security program for three decades and is a three-time recipient of the Israel Security Award. Eshed also said US President Donald Trump was “on the verge” of disclosing the existence of aliens but he was convinced not to do so by the Galactic Federation.

The reason that the Galactic Federation cited was that they felt it would cause mass hysteria and humans first needed to “evolve and reach a stage where we will… understand what space and spaceships are.” The 87-year-old Haim Eshed made these claims in an interview with Israeli paper Yediot Aharonot.

Haim Eshed said, “There’s an agreement between the US government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments here. They, too, are researching and trying to understand the whole fabric of the universe, and they want us as helpers.” “There’s an underground base in the depths of Mars, where their representatives are, and also our American astronauts,” he stated.

The former head of Israel’s space security program admitted that all of this appeared to be fantasy but claimed that at least some of his comrades are coming around. “If I had come up with what I’m saying today five years ago, I would have been hospitalized. Wherever I’ve gone with this in academia, they’ve said, ‘The man has lost his mind,’” he reportedly said before adding, “Today they’re already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I’ve received my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad, where the trend is also changing.”

Fabulous life of Arvind Kejriwal: Fearing attention diversion, Delhi CM this time creates different drama

In case you have missed out on the latest trash on Netflix ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ which showcases lives of ‘who the hell is that’ from the tinsel town, then just log in to Twitter. Aam Aadmi Party supporters are ready for your entertainment amid the nationwide Bandh call that does not quite seem to be working.

As the Kejriwal backed Bharat Bandh spectacularly failed in Delhi, AAP supporters and sympathisers rushed in the defence of their leader and his government. Pinning the blame of the failure of Bandh on the Centre and PM Modi, AAPians alleged that the Modi government is afraid of Kejriwal and has therefore house arrested the Delhi CM for extending his support for the farmers.

The official Twitter account of Aam Aadmi Party tweeted that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been put under house arrest. Soon after the tweet, scores of AAP supporters descended on social media websites, furiously tweeting in support of the Kejriwal government and accusing the central government of being so afraid of the AAP chief that they had to put him under house arrest. The AAP supporters claimed that PM Modi is worried that Kejriwal would visit the Singhu border once again and extend his solidarity with the protesters.

Soon enough the attention from Bharat Bandh was diverted to Kejriwal’s ‘house arrest’ which never was.

Delhi Police denies putting Arvind Kejriwal under house arrest

As the rabid AAP supporters were busy weaving a narrative that the Modi government had kept Kejriwal under house arrest, in a bid to cover-up their failure on Bharat Bandh, Delhi Police issued a prompt clarification, stating that the chief minister is not put under house arrest and it is just a general deployment to avoid clashes between AAP and other parties.

With the Delhi residents giving short shrift to the call for Bharat Bandh which was also supported by Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP and its supporters made a beeline to defend their leader and make outrageous assertions that the Delhi CM was put under house arrest because his support for farmers scared the PM Modi.

Arvind Kejriwal has a history of indulging in attention-seeking stunts

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and his supporters have often displayed such kind of an inflated sense of self-importance. On several occasions in the past, AAP supporters have pulled off such attention-seeking stunts to hog limelight and elevate their leader Arvind Kejriwal’s political stature.

In December 2018, AAP had alleged that a man had hurled chilli powder on Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi chief minister and his supporters instantly painted the aggressor as BJP man and accused the BJP of attacking him. Kejriwal had called a special session to discuss the chilli powder attack on him. the special session was called when the nation was mourning on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack.

However, several reports in the aftermath of the incident claimed that the accused, Anil Sharma, who had flung chilli powder on Kejriwal, had confessed that the attack was orchestrated by AAP leaders as a publicity stunt.

Similarly, in May 2019, Arvind Kejriwal was struck with a resounding slap by a man named Suresh Chauhan during his roadshow in the Moti Nagar area of Delhi. After Kejriwal was slapped, the AAP leaders and supporters alleged that the accused had links with the BJP. However, the man confessed to being an AAP supporter and videos had emerged where he was seen attending rallies of Aam Aadmi Party.

As soon as the reports of Kejriwal being attacked by one of the disgruntled AAP supporters came out, the speculations of the incident being staged started gathering steam. With the attacker Suresh’s confession claiming that he was an AAP supporter and the videos confirming it, many started believing that the whole incident might be staged to garner sympathy from the voters.

And now, with FOMO (Fear of missing out) setting in after national parties making their support to farmers’ agitation louder, Kejriwal floated the ‘house arrest’ theory to bring back the attention on him.

‘BJP killing own people’: Political ‘analyst’ Tauseef attempts to whitewash TMC and downplay political violence in Bengal

On Monday, political ‘analyst’ Mohammed Tauseef Rahman made several outlandish allegations against the West Bengal unit of the BJP. He accused the party of killing its own workers for gaining political mileage in the State.

“There is a Bengali proverb ‘Joto dosh Nondo Ghosh (Blame Nondo Ghosh, referring to the TMC, for every wrongdoing). This cannot happen. Who killed BJP members? Why are innocent people losing their lives in Bengal? BJP is killing their own people. And are you trying to pin the blame for everything on the TMC?” alleged Tauseef. The debate was conducted in the backdrop of the brutal killing of BJP worker named Ulen Roy during the ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies in Siliguri.

“You think because you are sitting in Kolkata and I am not, so you know more about Bengal. You are insulated sitting there…The problem with you is that your communication with the rest of the world is through Netflix. You know nothing about the reality of Bengal, Tauseef Rehman,” Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami lambasted the political analyst.

Violence in Siliguri

Yesterday, the BJP’s ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies in Siliguri were marred by brutality. Party leaders had alleged that the West Bengal police and the TMC goons had attacked the BJP and BJYM workers with force. However, the Bengal police had denied using force.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya had shared a video clip from ABP News where a police officer can be seen brutally thrashing a BJP worker with his baton. The party worker was seen trying to hide under a cot on a rooftop, but the police officer spotted him and went on thrashing him brutally for several minutes. The visuals contradict the claims made by the West Bengal police that the police did not use force or lathi-charged the BJP workers.

A BJP worker named Ulen had died, allegedly after a crude bomb was hurled at the BJP rally. BJP MP and BJYM chief Tejasvi Surya had shared the images on Twitter, claiming that the crude bomb was hurled by “Mamata’s police”.

Several BJP workers and leaders have been killed or have been found dead under mysterious circumstances in the recent months.

Bharat Bandh flops in Delhi as vegetable mandis stay open for business despite Kejriwal’s support to protesting ‘farmers’

On December 6, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, had announced his party’s support for the call of ‘Bharat Bandh’ by farmers’ unions. His MLAs had posted tweets that the mandis and markets in Delhi will remain closed on Tuesday to show solidarity to the farmers. However, the whole movement has flopped in Delhi. The vegetable mandis opened as per the schedule, and the business is as usual with minor hiccups that were expected.

Mandi chairman’s statement and the reaction

AAP leader and Azadpur Mandi chairman Adil Khan had issued a video statement. He said that the shopkeepers in Mandi had decided not to open their shops on Tuesday to support ‘Bharat Bandh.’ He also claimed that it was a historic decision. However, on Tuesday morning, his claims were proven to be a fluke as the business started in the Mandi at its usual pace.

Neelkant Bakshi, BJP Karyakarta, had shared a video of Okhla Mandi. He said, “despite all the efforts of AAP appointed chairman Aadil Khan, the business in the mandi is in progress at its full pace. A lot of produce has arrived in the mandi.”

In another Tweet, Bakshi shared a video in which Anil Malhotra from Azadpur Mandi said, “the Mandi chairman is lying that the Mandis will remain closed. The mandis are open, and the business is as usual. The farmers’ produce will be sold in the mandis.” Bakshi added in the tweet that around 20 trucks of tomato, 50 trucks of potato, and over 200 trucks of fresh vegetables have reached Azadpur Mandi today.”

Statements of AAP leaders

Gopal Rai, Delhi Minister, had said on December 6, “Aam Aadmi Party’s convenor & Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Ji has urged party officials & workers to support farmers-led #BharatBandh on December 8. Ours is an agrarian country, I would also urge the people to show their support as well.”

On December 7, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan tweeted in Support of Bharat Bandh and said, “We are in full support of our farmers’ call for Bharat Bandh on December 8. I appeal to the people of Okhla and Delhi to close their shops and businesses to support the farmers.”

Farmers’ protest and talks with Central Government

A large number of farmer leaders under different unions are in Delhi to mark their protest against the recently passed Agriculture Laws. They are demanding that the central government must repeal these laws.

Most of the agitating farmers are from Punjab. Contrary to the lies peddled by the opposition, the new laws have ample security for the farmers and provide legal remedies to the farmers in case of non-payment or delayed payment along with several other benefits.

Opportunist protesters like Medha Patkar, Yogendra Yadav, and several others have jumped in the protests. There are reports that Khalistanis are trying to take over the protests and use them for their own agenda. The farmers’ unions led by Yogendra Yadav had called for Bharat Bandh on December 8, but it seemed to have failed in Delhi.

The central government has been trying to communicate with farmers for the last several weeks, but the farmers’ unions were not ready to listen. Since they arrived in Delhi, several rounds of talks have already been completed, and the next round is scheduled for December 9.

Cracks in opposition? TMC reluctant to support ‘Bharat Bandh’ call in West Bengal by ‘farmers’ over farm laws

Amidst the ongoing protests against the newly introduced farm bills and the call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ by farmer unions on Tuesday, the Trinamool Congress has expressed reluctance over the idea of a nationwide strike. While more than a dozen Opposition parties have been vocal about their support, the TMC has rather chosen to extend its ‘moral support’.

Senior party leader and MP Saugata Roy said that while the party stands by the agitating ‘farmers’, TMC will not support the Bharat Bandh by the farmers in the State of West Bengal. “It goes against our principles,” he emphasised.

While addressing a gathering in Midnapore on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also informed that the government does not support the idea of bandh but will extend their support to the farmers’ movement.

While demanding the withdrawal of farm bills, she said, “I have not forgotten Singur, I have not forgotten… I am promising full support to the farmers.” While she made it clear that TMC would not support Bandhs, she said, “we are supporting the demands being made by farmers tomorrow.”

TMC’s politics in Bengal

The ‘moral support’ of Trinamool Congress to the Bharat Bandh is rooted in the party’s history and the politics of West Bengal. During the 34-year Communist rule in West Bengal, the state was marred with recurring strikes, by unions backed by the CPI(M). To mark a departure from the traditional practice that saw large-scale businesses loss in the state, the TMC has been dead against the idea of strikes.

It is pertinent to remember that Mamata Banerjee had also ‘penalised’ strikes in the State by government employees to prevent loss of working days. As such, despite being a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, the TMC had to deviate from its usual vocal stand to a rather passive one. With the upcoming Assembly elections in mind, Mamata Banerjee is ensuring that the electorates do not assume her party to toe the line of the Communists who ruled the state earlier.

However, this stance of the party has cast aspersions about the ‘Opposition unity’ in orchestrating a formidable mass agitation against the ruling dispensation. TMC spokesperson Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, “This time it is the cause…it is in the interest of farmers that TMC is supporting the protests.”

Arvind Kejriwal not under ‘house arrest’, Delhi Police rubbishes Aam Aadmi Party’s claims

Delhi Police on Tuesday has rubbished Aam Aadmi Party’s claims that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is put under house arrest.

Police said that the security is increased around CM’s house to avoid clash between AAP and other party workers. As quoted by ANI, Delhi Police’s DCP, North Anto Alphonse said that the CM has not been put under house arrest.

Aam Aadmi Party had tweeted earlier today claiming that Kejriwal was put under house arrest by Delhi Police.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also claimed that after Delhi Chief Minister returned from meeting the farmers at Singhu border and extended support for Bharat Bandh, Delhi Police put up barricades around his house creating a ‘house arrest’ like situation.

He claimed that no one was allowed to meet Kejriwal upon his return yesterday.

However, Delhi Police has now rubbished these claim.

In a tweet, DCP North Delhi shared an image outside Delhi CM’s house and said that he continues to exercise his right to free movement within the law of the land. The DCP North Delhi reiterated that AAP’s claim of Kejriwal put under house arrest is incorrect.

West Bengal police vs BJP: As police deny using force, BJP asks the police to ‘stop being political pawns’

Yesterday, the BJP’s ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies in Siliguri were marred with brutality. Party leaders had alleged that the West Bengal police and the TMC goons had attacked the BJP and BJYM workers with force. However, the Bengal police had denied using force.

Hours after West Bengal police denied using ‘force’ to disrupt the BJP’s ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies on Monday, where a BJP worker named Ulen Roy was killed, the party has questioned the integrity of the State police.

Malviya tweeted, “Shame on WB Police for behaving like TMC hoodlums! Is this your idea of restrain? If this is not lathi-charge then what is? Few months down the line, Pishi will be consigned to the footnote of Bengal’s politics. So don’t get carried away.” He further added, “Stop being a political pawn of the CM!”

While speaking about the incident, BJP State President Dilip Ghosh said that the deceased BJP worker had died after succumbing to police lathi-charge and rubber bullets. “The cops are hellbent to shut down a democratic protest,” he said. Ghosh further reminded the Trinamool Congress of the Nandigram violence where the cops had open fired on unarmed protestors in 2007, on the behest of the then Communist government. He said that if TMC continues on the same path, the people of the state will soon bid them goodbye.

BJP National Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also questioned the atrocities committed by the West Bengal police and informed about meeting injured BJP workers who had been the victims of police brutality.

West Bengal police denies use of force

On Monday, West Bengal police had accused ‘a political party’ of engaging in violence, arson, brick-batting, firing and vandalism of government property during their protest program. It claimed, “Today in Siliguri, serious acts of violence were committed by the supporters of a political party during their protest program. They resorted to arson, brick-batting, firing and vandalism of govt property.”

The police emphasised that they did not firearms or use lathi-charge and had only used water cannons and tear gas. “Police showed restraint and didn’t do lathi-charge or used firearms. Only water cannons and tear gas were used to disperse the violent crowd. However, the death of a person has been reported. The body is being sent for post-mortem. The actual cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem,” it further claimed.

Tejasvi Surya earlier called out the West Bengal Police

BJP MP and BJYM chief Tejasvi Surya, highlighting the police brutalities against peaceful protestors said, “Many BJP workers injured during their peaceful protest. #Democracy being murdered in WB.” In another tweet, Surya urged media to report the incident. He said,”If you will not speak up against these atrocities today, you will be failing in your duties. This is beyond party politics. This is the question of India’s democracy. Look at this. It looks like a war zone. Will you raise your voice against this?”
