Wahabi extremism rising in West Bengal, jobless youngsters being recruited for ‘Jihad’: Report

0

Last month, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested seven suspected terrorists in Murshidabad, West Bengal, allegedly associated with the Al-Qaeda terrorist group. According to the Sunday Guardian, these arrests have opened new doors for the investigation agency to look into how deep this nexus has rooted itself among the local youths and radicalizing them, especially along with the state’s border districts.

According to the investigation agencies, many small organizations have popped up across the state in the last few years. They are recruiting young people and radicalizing them to prepare them for Jihad. They are teaching them the principles of Wahhabism.

Shocking revelations by arrested terrorists

The suspected terrorists arrested by the NIA revealed that they were planning to attack important locations and kill innocents. As per the reports, they have attended anti-CAA protests and mobilized masses to hit the streets.

NIA found jihadi literature, digital devices, sharp weapons, etc. in their possession. The Sunday Guardian quoted its source in NIA who said, “We are also learning about how these people were working to recruit new entrants into their group; also, if there are any kind of training camps present in Bengal, who their leader is and how many people are involved in this.”

Media reports had cited citing NIA sources that 6 the arrested terrorists had stationed themselves in Murshidabad last year during the anti-CAA violence in December. They had reportedly mobilised the masses for the large scale violence, arson, rioting and looting that had taken place in the area under the garb of anti-CAA protests.

Change in demographics, unemployment, and the idea of radicalization

In the past few years, the demographic change in the border districts of West Bengal has raised concerns about national security. Investigation agencies believe that several fundamentalists and Wahhabi clerics have crossed the India-Bangladesh border using porous borders. They are working with the local Muslim population on the Indian side and preparing them for the “holy war.”

NIA has arrested six Al-Qaeda terrorists among several fundamentalists who were working in Bengal. They have also arrested members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from different locations across the country. It is believed that the Sheikh Hasina government was targeting the fundamentalist clerics in Bangladesh. The clerics hence crossed the border to find a safe location to stay in Bengal.

According to the investigation agencies, because of the unemployment in the rural areas of West Bengal, it has become easier for the fundamentalist clerics to stay and propagate their teachings of Wahhabism among youth. They have come across printed material, WhatsApp forwards, banners, and more that are being circulated in the local population. These posters, messages, etc, encourage youth to join the “noble cause” of spreading the Islamic rule in India.

Declassified CIA document from 2011 reveals the depth of Soviet penetration in Indian media

The success of Vivek Agnihotri-directed movie ‘Tashkent Files’ has aroused the interest of Indian youth in the field of espionage during the cold war between USSR and USA. The second world war led to the dismantling of the British empire, and almost all countries were split between two ideologies- Communism and Capitalism; each backed by the Soviets and Americans respectively. India, in particular, was seen as the playground for International espionage between the espionage agencies of the two superpowers- KGB and CIA.

The Mitrokhin Archives, which contains information about Soviet misadventures in India that got leaked by former KGB spy Vasili Mitrokhin on his defection to the United Kingdom, showed the dirty history of the Congress party and how they almost sold the country to Soviets for financial incentives. The archives particularly spoke about the way Soviets had infiltrated into the politics of the country, but didn’t go much into detail about public misinformation campaigns of the KGB to swing Indian public opinion in its favour.

However, the CIA declassified a document titled ‘The Soviets in India: Moscow’s Major Penetration Program’ in 2011, two decades after the fall of USSR; which revealed the depth of KGB infiltration in India’s media circles.

According to the document, the Soviets operated the media penetration program from the press section of its embassy in New Delhi, where they infiltrated deep into journalist circles by offering financial incentives to them. Initially, the Soviets banked on CPI-owned magazines and mouthpieces to spread Communist beliefs to the public, but then decided to scale up their operations by moving onto larger news outlets.

In 1984, the Soviets engineered its affiliation with the left-leaning Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) through its political connections and began to ‘lobby’ with (or more appropriately, ‘prey on’) journalists from top media houses. The Soviets created a network of journalists and media houses that already were influenced by Leftism to peddle Communist propaganda in Indian media. The CIA document further alleges that these networks and propaganda campaigns were planned by the CPSU’s central committee and Novosti (a USSR press agency), though carried out by the KGB and Soviet Embassy press department.

To sway Indian public opinion in favour of nuclear disarmament in January 1985, the Soviets used the CPI and WPC to engineer the participation of pro-communist scientists and academicians from top universities in passing a resolution favouring nuclear disarmament at the Indian Science Conference in Lucknow. The resolutions passed in the conference were used as a source by media houses under Soviet payroll like The Blitz.

The declassified document alleges that almost 3,000 propaganda articles were planted in leading English dailies such as Hindustan Times and Times of India to flare up anti-USA sentiments in India, the details of the articles as mentioned in the document are-

Hindustan Times:

12 May 1984- “There is existence of Khalistan terrorist training camps in Canada, with support from Western governments of USA, UK and Canada.”

August 1984- “Sikh Separatist leaders Ganga Singh Dhillon and Jagjit Singh Chauhan on the payroll of US Defense Intelligence Agency (USDIA).”

Times of India:

14 September 1984- “Pakistan is CIA base for recruiting guerillas.”

The Hindu, Madras edition:

November 1984- “CIA has set up centers in Pakistan for subverting the Afghanistan and Indian governments.”

Shortly after Indira Gandhi’s assassination on 31st October 1984, the Soviets began their propaganda campaign, with Radio Moscow declaring that the Khalistani assassins got their “ideological inspiration” from the CIA, and accused the Americans of assassinating Third World leaders who didn’t succumb to capitalism. Soon after, various Indian news agencies joined the chorus, including The Patriot, The Daily, Hindustan Times, National Herald and the CPI-owned Hindi newspaper ‘Janayug’.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) was also a major part of the campaign, with the document alleging that several managers of the news service agency were on the payroll of the Soviets. The Soviets used the PTI to plant articles that were molded in a way to promote communism in Indian newspapers; the CIA document says that a car with a Soviet diplomatic license plate was regularly seen at the PTI headquarters, and was jokingly referred to as ‘Press TASS’ by Soviet officials.

The objective of USSR’s propaganda campaigns were to arouse Leftist feelings in the public, but failed to gain much traction due to the mindset not favouring such ideologies. However, despite failing to achieve its objective, the USSR unknowingly exposed the greed of Indian journalists and media houses of that time, who agreed to sell their dignity and national integrity to the Soviets despite knowing about the consequences of their actions.

Christian missionary group ‘Scripture Union’ employee accused of sending inappropriate messages to school girls, chat messages go viral

Christian evangelical organisation ‘Scripture Union’ (SU) employee Sam Jaisunder has been accused of sending inappropriate messages to underage girls in schools. In a series of tweets, Twitter user Joel Giftson alleged that Jaisunder would insist on video calls with the minor girls and even ask them to meet alone while expressing desire to ‘cuddle’ them.

Accusing ‘Scripture Union’ of being the most paedophilic organisation, he stated that this inappropriate messaging by Jaisunder has been going on since at least 2016.

One can see Sam asking young girls to send their pictures.

As one can see, he is asking a young girl if she sleeps naked. In another chat, he can be seen asking for pictures of young girls which he can save on his phone.

In one of the chats, Sam is asking a young girl Franci if she hugs boys of her class. In another he asks a 14 year old girl if she and her friends talk about boyfriends and girlfriends. The chat appear to be from September 2013, at least seven years back.

In other chats, he asks the same girl Franci if she has hugged or kissed anyone. When she says no, he asks her if she would like to.

Giftson shared many more screenshots where girls had shared inappropriate message. As per Gifton, Sam has now deactivated his social media profiles out of embarrassment after these screenshots went viral.

In the undated chat screenshots it can be seen Jaisunder telling a school girl how another school girl had kissed him and he had liked it.

Most of the girls, he said, had deleted the chats. He also named another SU employee Reuben who was found sending inappropriate texts to underage girls.

Inappropriate messages by Reuben

One more SU employee Reuben Clement allegedly sent inappropriate messages to young girls like asking what they are wearing while sleeping.

In the above messages, one can see Reuben Clement messaging young girls and asking them to send their pictures.

As per Giftson, Scripture Union has already come out in support of Sam Jaisunder and asked the girls to not make an issue out of it.

Started in 1867, Scripture Union is an international Christian evangelical organisation which works closely with schools to get children to read the Bible.

Rajasthan DGP blames ‘internet’ and ‘curiosity’ in youth for rising rape cases in the country, Congress-ruled state tops the list

Recently, the Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Bhupendra Yadav has stirred a controversy by blaming the ‘internet and curiosity’ in youths for the rising rape cases in the country. His comments come at the backdrop of several rape cases that have been come to light in the past few days.

Yadav stated, “I have observed an increase in the number of rape cases in North India. There are special reasons behind it such as a rising population of the young generation, unemployment and imitating pornographic activities available on the internet.” He also claimed that since the law does not permit individuals below 18 years to have a physical relationship, it, therefore, invokes curiosity among the youth and thus resulting in rapes.

The Rajasthan DGP has alleged that there is an increase in the number of cases where young boys and girls have ‘friendship’ and often ‘flee’ together. Yadav further added that the youth, especially the girls, need to be taught about confidence-building and ‘ways to avoid’ such incidents.

Rajasthan tops the list in rape cases in India

As per the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Rajasthan ranks first among the States with the highest number of recorded rape cases. In 2019 alone, the State witnessed a total of 5,997 cases. Rajasthan has seen a consistent rise in rape cases, with the State recording 3,305 cases in 2017 and 4,335 cases in 2018. The rate of increase in rape cases between 2018 and 2019 has almost doubled to 4.2%, up from 2.4% between 2017 and 2018. At the same time, Jaipur has garnered the second spot in the list of most unsafe cities for women in India with 517 rape cases is 2019 alone.

Recent rape cases in Rajasthan

On Friday, the naked corpse of a girl has been discovered at a hospital in the Banswara district of Rajasthan. The family of the victim had claimed that she was poisoned and raped. In another shocking incident, a woman was gang-raped by two men in Siswali in Baran district of Rajasthan. The girl was abducted by two men on July 1, kept her hostage, regularly raped and assaulted her. She was rescued a month later.

Bhatta Parsaul to Hathras, Congress continues to use the same script to launch Gandhi siblings

When the outrage over Hathras rape case started growing, a “journalist” called it a God given opportunity to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ahead of UP elections in around 18 months time. When I read that, I got a sense of Deja Vu, because I distinctly remember several occasions when Gandhi siblings have tried to utilize these “God given” opportunities in Uttar Pradesh to launch their political careers, to little effect so far.

Back in May 2011, the villagers of Bhatta Parsaul in Greater Noida kidnapped 3 officials of Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation while protesting against the land acquisition by the state, though the state of UP Roadways buses would have been a more worthy cause to kidnap those particular officials. Anyway, UP Police went in to rescue those officials (because in real life, Kundan from Raanjhnaa can’t just talk his way to their release), it resulted in a gun battle and 4 people were killed. Following the violence, several villagers were arrested, entry to the village was sealed and hundreds of policemen were deployed in the area.

Congress sensed a “God given opportunity” to launch Rahul Gandhi as a serious politician ahead of UP elections in 10 months time. Till then, Rahul Gandhi was trying to connect to the masses by trying to do things they imagined common people do, spending night with a tribal family, traveling in a train, watching a cricket match etc etc etc, but this was the big moment, to push him as the serious face who will lead Congress to win in Uttar Pradesh, and subsequently in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, that was the plan anyway.

Even though the entrance to the village was sealed, Rahul Gandhi managed to reach there on a motorcycle, to stand in solidarity with the villagers. All sorts of allegations were made regarding the murder of the famrers, rapes of women, and a heap of ash was allegedly found, where murdered farmers were burned. The journalists pushed the young politician as the messiah of the farmers, everything he said was reported without any basic fact-check, subsequently all the allegations were found baseless and even Rahul Gandhi backtracked on his remarks, saying he was misquoted, something that somehow always keeps happening to politicians.

Anyhow, the publicity Rahul Gandhi got during the incident helped Congress a lot in the elections that followed these protests, and Congress moved from 4th position in 2007, to 4th position in 2012, though they did make a gain of 6 seats and 3% vote share, so the plan can be considered slightly more successful than Bhalla-Robert plans in Andaz Apna Apna.

Now since the plan to launch Rahul as a serious politician through Bhatta Parsaul worked so well, Congress decided to use the same script for his sister Priyanka. After years of “Barsaati Mendhak” politics, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decided to enter politics full time ahead of 2019 elections and ever since then, it has been very clear that Congress is targeting 2022 UP elections to catapult her to the status of serious national leader (Contrary to what family beat journalists say about her nose, nobody considers her a political heavyweight right now).

The first attempt to use a tragedy to her political advantage was made in Sonbhadra in July 2019, just a couple of months after the General elections. In a horrific incident over land dispute, 10 tribal persons were shot dead by Gujjars in the village of Ubha in Sonbhadra district. Land mafia, rampant in Sonbhadra for decades, shot dead the Gond tribals claiming ownership over the land they had cultivated for years. Immediately after the massacre, Priyanka Ji was sent to Ubha village, to question the UP Government’s inaction in the case, even though dozens were arrested in the case by then, the charge sheet eventually named 51 people.

Few months later, came the next tragedy tourism visit, to Unnao, after the case of rape and murder of a 23 years old. With the nation still outraged over Hyderabad rape and murder case and subsequent encounter, this was the perfect time to capitalize on a “God-given opportunity” as that journalist put it. This time, Priyanka Ji was already in Lucknow for a visit, and could quickly head to Unnao to meet the family of the girl who had been killed.

Now with elections coming up in UP again, Congress has made the same play again, to push Gandhi siblings as the face of a protest after a human tragedy in a part of Uttar Pradesh. Will they be more successful this time, or will they again jump from 4th to 4th, we wait and find out in 18 months’ time.

Paytm and other Indian tech companies mull steps to take on Google over alleged ‘unfair practices’: Report

0

Paytm and other Indian startups are coming together to take on global tech giant Google, Reuters has reported. Their strategy would include lodging cases and complaints with the Court and the government. Google is accused of unfair practices that twists the market in its favour. Entrepreneurs have been meeting over video conferences over what is expected to be a bitter fight.

“It’s definitely going to be a bitter fight,” said Dinesh Agarwal, CEO of e-commerce firm IndiaMART. “Google will lose this battle. It’s just a matter of time.” Towards that end, a new ‘start-up association’ is sought to be formed whose primary task would be to lodge protests against the US company with the Government and the Courts. The idea of a rival app store was also floated but it was concluded that it wouldn’t be immediately effective.

The battle seems to have been sparked by a recent controversy when Google removed the Paytm app from its Play Store, alleging the app of policy violations. Paytm was soon restored but it did earn Google a strong rebuke from Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma. In a video call, he is reported to have said, “If we together don’t do anything, then history will not be kind to us. We have to control our digital destiny.”

Another incident that angered start-ups was Google’s decision to enforce a 30% commission on payments made within apps on the Android store. Google, however, does not see anything wrong with the decision saying that 97% of the apps comply with it. The tech giant already faces an antitrust case and a competition investigation but Google says it is compliant of all laws.

Recently, sharing an article that envisaged the end of the ‘American internet’, Vijay Shekhar Sharma said, “India will be a key builder of global technologies. Not just a market or importer. We will face retaliation by Big Tech, and that’s a confirmation of our importance and their dominance on world technology landscape. Our time is now.”

Yogi Adityanath says opposition is trying to stroke communal riots using Hathras case after police file FIR alleging criminal conspiracy to incite violence

As the Congress, TMC and other opposition parties continue to use the Hathras case for their political benefit, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has said that opposition is trying to stroke communal riots in the state.

Reacting to the ongoing protests by opposition in regard to the murder and alleged rape case, the CM said that opposition is not happy with the development being done in the state, and therefore they are trying to hatch communal riots in UP.

FIR filed by police alleging criminal conspiracy

The comments by the UP CM without naming anyone came after the UP police filed an FIR under various sections of IPC alleging criminal conspiracy to incite violence in the state using the incident. According to reports, the police suspect that Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) are trying to incite riots, and they are funding communal violence using the Hathras case. Apart from them, mafia groups currently targeted by the government are also trying to use the opportunity to take revenge on the administration.

According to sources, police have found that the elements which were behind the anti-CAA riots are also trying to trigger another round of riots. The police point towards coordinated effort in inciting violence by spreading fake news and images on social media and media.

According to UP police, several false reports related to the Hathras case, like tongue was cut, eyes gorged out, gang-raped etc were circulated with an intention to trigger riots, images from other crimes were used to claim those are from the Hathras case, and now those who had circulated such claims are under watch.

The police have also referred to media houses trying to interfere in the case by luring family of the victim to give particular statements. Leaked audio of conversation between the family of the victim and journalists had shown that the family was being lured to make provocative statements against the government.

“Why nobody has made a bomb to kill Narendra Modi?” former Madhya Pradesh MLA openly calls for Prime Minister’s assassination

In a shocking comment, a former Madhya Pradesh MLA named Dada Rangulam Uikey openly wished for the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public gathering. A member of the Gondvana Gantantra party, he is said to have made the contentious comments three days ago, where he asked why nobody has made a bomb to kill the prime minister.

Dada Rangulam Uikey lamented how none could devise a bomb to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “One man has fooled the entire country and we are forced to tolerate? Are bombs not being manufactured in other countries? To assassinate Indira Gandhi, bullets were available. To kill Rajiv Gandhi, suicide bombing was facilitated from abroad. Is nobody capable of manufacturing bomb to finish Modiji? I want to know if the other two can get killed, then why not him?” he was heard as saying.

The video of his speech has now gone viral on social media. Further referring to the Prime Minister as a ‘murderer’ who is allegedly behind destroying the lives of Indian citizens, the former MLA claimed, “The murderer is in this country. And that man is seated on the top spot in the power corridor. And that man is ready to finish the 130 crore people.” The BJP is yet to react to the comments made by Dada Rangulam Uikey.

NIA receives email issuing death threats to PM Modi

On August 8, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had received an email, which talked about killing India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in just three words. According to the report, the NIA wrote a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs citing details of the death threat to PM Modi, after which the MHA took up the matter with the Special Protection Group, which is responsible for the protection of Prime Minister Modi and the security cover for PM Modi has been enhanced in wake of the threat. The death threat was issued from the email id – [email protected]
