United States embassy in Pakistan condemned by Islamists for supporting LGBT rights, gets warned not to disrespect Islamic principles

Islamists have lambasted the United States Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, over a Tweet supporting LGBT rights. The tweet was made on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. It seeks to organise international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights abuses and generate interest in LGBT rights work throughout the world.

The tweet said, “Mission Pakistan works to strengthen and support the LGBTQI+ community. We strive every day to ensure the human rights of the LGBTQI+ community are respected and protected from oppression. We continue to press for full equality.”

The tweet was condemned by Islamists in Pakistan stating that the embassy needs to obey the social norms of Pakistan. Islami Jamiat -e- Talaba, a student organization in Pakistan, condemned the tweet writing, “What an alarming moment for all the Pakistanis that the @usembislamabad is openly advocating #LGBT rights in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. They have willfully forgotten that the laws of the land must be duly respected.”

“Advocacy of LGBT is akin to absolute disregard for the constitution of Pakistan, our culture and traditions, and above all, Islamic principles. @JamiatPK condemns the statement of @usembislamabad in the strongest words,” they wrote.

They also warned the US against interfering in social matters stating, “The vigilant nation of PK knows well to protect its values, so the US and all like-minded ones should never dare to transgress the boundaries.” Several other users also slammed the US Embassy for its remarks.

It is notable that when compared to gendered persons, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in Pakistan do not enjoy real equality and face societal challenges. Even in big cities, gays and lesbians need to keep their sexual orientation hidden since same-sex sexual relations are illegal under Pakistani law and are seen with contempt and hatred in Islamic society.

Quad leaders’ meet: PM Modi pens a column in Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, here is what he wrote

PM Modi is currently in Japan to attend a Quad leaders’ meet. On May 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his op-ed in the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun. In a tweet, he wrote, “Penned an op-ed on the vibrant relations between India and Japan. Ours is a partnership for peace, stability and prosperity. I trace the journey of our special friendship, which completes 70 glorious years.”

In his op-ed, PM Modi described the relationship between India and Japan in three words Special, Strategic and Global. However, he added that India and Japan have far more possibility of a stronger bond. PM Modi traced the cultural ties between the two nations and drew parallels on how the two countries share the same values on democracy, freedom and rule-based international order.

He remembered how Bodhisena, the Indian monk who spread Buddism in Japan during the Nara era, and Swami Vivekananda, the great religious leader of India, helped strengthen the ties between the two countries. He also mentioned the influence of Japan on MK Gandhi as the famous Japanese Three Monkeys “See, Hear, Say” are associated with him.

70-years of partnership

PM Modi said India and Japan are celebrating 70 years of partnership. PM said his belief in the India-Japan relationship started building up when the then-PM of Japan visited Gujarat when PM Modi was Chief Minister of the state. Japan had extended its support for the “Vibrant Gujarat Summit”.

He mentioned how Japan had become an irreplaceable collaborator in the process of promoting development and modernization. Multiple projects like the automobile industry, industrial corridor and more show how Japan supported India. The two countries are now looking forward to strengthening the bond in the post-covid period.

He said the two countries could be essential cornerstones of stability and security in the region. The cooperative relationship between the two countries is expanding into various fields, including defence. The two countries will further cooperate in the cyber, space, and underwater areas.

Full text of Pm Modi’s op-ed (Translated using Google Translate)

Special, strategic and global. These three words, which describe the relationship between Japan and India, have unparalleled importance one by one, but they are far from the possibility of the bond between the two countries.

Cultural ties go back centuries. A strong belief in sharing the values of democracy, freedom and rule-based international order, as well as the alignment of regional and global perspectives, underlies trust and the relationship between India and Japan as genuine partners.

From Bodhisena (an Indian monk who spread Buddhism in Japan during the Nara era) to Swami Vivekananda (a great religious leader in India), the cultural ties between the two countries are mutual. It has a long and rich history of respect and learning. Among the collections that Mahatma Gandhi cherished is a small statue of the three wise monkeys, “See, hear, say.” Also, Judge Radhabinod Pal (India, the only person in the Tokyo Tribunal who was blamed for Japan’s war for innocence) is well known in Japan. The praise of Tagore’s poetry for Japan and his interaction with Tenshin Okakura was the driving force behind the early networking of artists and intellectuals from both countries.

As the two countries celebrate their 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, this deep relationship lays a solid foundation for a mature partnership between India and Japan in modern times.

My own belief in this partnership began during the time of Prime Minister Gujarat. He was not only due to the sophistication of Japanese technology and skills but also because of his attitude of earnest and long-term involvement in Japanese leadership and business. As a result, Japan has become a preferred partner in the industrial sector in Gujarat (state). It has also shown its most outstanding presence since the start of the investment attraction event “Vibrant Gujarat Summit”.

Japan also proved that India is an irreplaceable collaborator in the process of promoting development and modernization. From the automobile industry to the industrial corridor, Japan’s investment and development support footprint extends throughout India. The high-speed rail project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad symbolizes Japan’s broad cooperation in the most important efforts towards a “new India.”

The two countries have had long-term traffic since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1952. However, in my opinion, the best time is yet to come. India and Japan are now looking to revitalize and rebuild their economies during the post-coronavirus period, further deepening our involvement in all areas, from trade to investment to defence and security. There is room for the unknown.

Over the last few years, India has embarked on strengthening its foundations in manufacturing, services, agriculture and digital technology infrastructure. Japan is an indispensable partner for the sustainable transformation of India. For Japan, India’s sense of speed and scale, combined with simplification and incentives for business practices, bold reforms and ambitious plans, will be a unique opportunity. India also has more than 100 unlisted unicorns (with a corporate value of more than $ 1 billion), creating a vibrant entrepreneurial environment. The Japanese capital has already played an important role and has much greater potential.

The connection between the peoples of both countries has played an indispensable role in deepening mutual understanding. Many Indians are now working in Japan and contributing to the Japanese economy and society. Just as Japanese business executives are contributing to India’s economic growth, this complementary relationship can be expanded in a wide variety of ways.

But our relationship has even greater responsibilities and goals. The spread of the new coronavirus infection, global tensions, and destructive actions that could threaten the stability and security of the Indo-Pacific build a robust supply chain that is not dominated by coercion or exploitation, human-based development models and power. Reiterated the need for stable international economic relations. The partnership between the two countries will help promote these objectives.

To that end, we will contribute to the construction of an open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific. It is characterized by a safe ocean connection, integration by trade and investment, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity as documented in international law.

As two democracies located in the strategically important Indo-Pacific, both countries can be important cornerstones of stability and security in the region. That is why the cooperative relationship between the two countries is expanding into a wide range of fields, and the defence cooperation between the two countries is rapidly becoming closer, from joint exercises to information exchange and the defence industry. The two countries will further cooperate in the cyber, space, and underwater areas.

In addition to security, we have development, infrastructure, connectivity, sustainability, health, and vaccines, along with frameworks such as the “Quad” of Japan, the United States, Australia and India, countries that share values both inside and outside the region. Promote initiatives in this region, such as capacity building and humanitarian response in the event of a disaster. The peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region is also very important for a better future for the whole world.

A crisis can sometimes be a bigger challenge and accelerate change. That is why, now that the world is at a turning point, the cooperative relationship between the two countries requires heavier responsibility and urgency. India and Japan can meet these demands if they have everything they have built over the last few decades that they share.

In March of this year, in New Delhi, Prime Minister Kishida and I presented a roadmap for deepening the “India-Japan Special Strategic Global Partnership” towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous post-Corona world. As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, we are building a decisive cooperative relationship in this region. I am confident that the meeting with Prime Minister Kishida will make solid progress towards the realization of this ambitious agenda.

PM Modi’s Japan visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Japan on his two-day visit to attend the Quad summit. This will be the second in-person Quad meeting. India, the United States, Japan and Australia are part of this group. The new PM of Australia Anthony Albanese and US president Joe Biden will be present at the summit too.

ET publishes offensive memes on Shivling despite multiple FIRs over those memes, once again highlighting the callousness of media towards Hindu sentiments

In its print edition on May 22, 2022, The Economic Times (ET) published a meme mocking Hindus by depicting the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre as a Shivling and captioned BOM BHOLENATH. The image was included in the MEME’S THE WORD Column of the print edition.

The meme on Shivling.

Another cartoon in the column mocks the call to open the Taj Mahal’s closed gates in the basement.

The cartoon on Taj Mahal.

It is worth noting that this has occurred at a time when multiple judicial proceedings have been initiated over disrespectful remarks and social media posts about the Shivling unearthed in the disputed Gyanvapi complex close to the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir. A complaint was recently filed against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, ‘journalist’ Saba Naqvi, Retired IAS Surya Pratap Singh, Peace Party’s Shadab Chouhan, and RJD leader Kumar Divashankar for making derogatory tweets about Lord Shiva following the discovery of a Shivling inside the disputed Gyanvapi mosque’s wuzukhana.

A Delhi University professor Ratan Lal was even arrested and then granted bail, for sharing another similar offensive meme over the Shivling.

Yet, publishing this meme on Shivling and Lord Shiva by the Economic Times demonstrates the callousness with which they treat the sentiments of the Hindu faith. If it was about any other faith, a cartoon/meme offending other religions, no mainstream media would have touched it with a barge pole but apparently, it is ok to laugh at Hindus’ religious beliefs and their symbols.

Mocking Hindus and their beliefs has become a threshold these days for media outlets to be considered truly liberal. Furthermore, this is not mere negligence; media outlets doing so consciously and repeatedly demonstrate their hostile objectives of offending Hindu feelings without having to face any opposition. In this case, it is well known across the globe that Kashi Vishwanath is one of the most revered locations and major pilgrimage destinations for Hindus, but still, a caricature and meme of such insulting nature was published in a national daily.

Making fun of Hindu feelings has become the new normal for the whole mainstream media, not just ET. It illustrates that the media is unconcerned about the Hindu faith. For them, anything Hindu is essentially simply ‘RSS/BJP,’ and hence they portray themselves as anti-establishment while being overtly anti-Hindu. So much so that they would wish death upon ‘Sanghis’ just because they do not align with them on political ideologies.

They do not acknowledge the fact that Hindus have their own identity and they are not just an extension of a political party or any organization.

Such incidents mocking the Hindu faith are commonplace because the media and the general public know very well that there is no risk of any backlash from the offended Hindus, who are at most going to file some FIRs that will not go anywhere. As we saw in the case of DU professor Ratan Lal who got bail the very next day.

Professor Ratan Lal of Delhi University was arrested for hurting Hindu sentiments on social media, but he got bail instantly because he stated in court that he is a Hindu. This is the reality where anyone can make disparaging remarks about Hindus, their festivals, and their culture without fear of any consequences because the offender can simply claim that it is one’s freedom of expression and, as a member of the same religion or community, he knows what is offensive and what is not!

Hence, with the fear of any backlash eliminated, media outlets and organizations wilfully take these risks, knowing that the severity of court punishment will be minimal, if at all!

Everyone is familiar with the Charlie Hebdo incident. If the caricature had been of the Prophet or the Quran, ET would have been attacked on social media and maybe at their offices, with the meme’s originator executed. The fact that something like this has not occurred illustrates the tolerance of a religion founded on the values of universal acceptance and harmony.

Many media outlets, including the Times Group, labeled Charlie Hebdo’s caricatures as offensive and provocative. However, when it comes to Hinduism, the double standards are clear. This meme on the sacred Shivling marks the epitome of freedom of expression for Economic Times. They feel free to publish and republish cartoons that are disrespectful to Hinduism, but they dare not publish drawings or memes that criticise Islam since they are fully aware of the ramifications.

Moreover, this is on Hindus too. It is on to Hindus to acknowledge this fact about media and consume content that is not disrespectful to their faith. The same is true when reporting on situations such as love jihad, religious  conversions, and a variety of other issues in which Hindus are only the victims and are the ones facing censure. The more Hindus consume and encourage such stuff, the more they will be riduculed in every way imaginable.

The selectors have rested the designated captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for the series trying to manage their workload. The squad has instead some new faces while some old guns have also made a comeback. The notable comebacks are all-rounder Hardik Pandya and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik. KL Rahul is named as the captain of 18 men squad.

Hardik Pandya who has been out of the Indian team due to form and fitness, played last for India in the T20I World Cup in November, 2021. During the ongoing season of IPL, he has scored 413 runs with an average of 41.30, making a strong statement for his comeback. He is the highest scorer for his team and also led Gujarat Titans as the first team to qualify for the playoffs in this season’s IPL. At the end of the group stages, Gujarat Titans topped the point table with 20 points (10 wins in 14 games).

On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik, has made a comeback to the Indian team after a gap of 3 years. Karthik has smashed 287 runs with a strike rate of 191. 33 in the current IPL, his strike rate is the best among players who have scored minimum 200 runs.

The new faces in the squad are Umran Malik who had a sensational season this year in IPL. He bowled consistently over 150 kmph for Sunrisers Hyderabad and is the lead wicket-taker for them with 21 wickets to his name. The other newcomer is Arshdeep Singh from Punjab Kings, who has proven to be quite economical in the death overs.

Surprisingly, Rahul Tripathi from Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t get a chance to make into the 18 men squad despite being the best middle order batsman of the season with 393 runs at strike rate of 161.72.

The selectors also annouced the test squad for the 5th test against England which is to be played in Birmingham. The Indian team returned back after the 4th test of the 5 match series due to Covid concerns. India leads the 5-match series 2-1 going into the last Test. Ajinkya Rahane has not been picked while Cheteshwar Pujara has made a comeback into the test squad after his impressive performances in the county cricket this season for Sussex.

T20I squad for South Africa series – KL Rahul (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (vc,wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvender Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik

Maharashtra: Aurangabad youth Imran Khan, accused of shooting fake ‘Jai Shri Ram’ assault video to incite communal disharmony, arrested

On Thursday 19th May 2022, CIDCO police in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra arrested a youth named Imran Khan for disturbing harmony between communities by making a misleading video. In this video, it is seen that Imran Khan, a resident of Alamgir Colony, is allegedly beaten up by 15 Hindu youths who are shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and snatching rupees 1,700 from his pocket. The video also mentions the name of a youth from the group of attackers as Rahul and that he lives in Ambedkar Nagar.

According to more details, Imran was beaten up by Akbar Langada (Harsul) Saddam and one unknown youth at Sharad Tee Point on Jalgaon Road on 28th April 2022. They also snatched rupees 1,700 from his pocket. After this, Imran went to the CIDCO police station and informed constable Sulane about the incident. The police then sent him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). When at GMCH, he shot a fake video. In this video, Imran Khan can be seen being beaten by 15 other youths. These youths are seen shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as they beat Imran Khan. They can also be seen chasing him from the CIDCO bus station.

The crime branch and CIDCO police took a note of this video and started an investigation. At the end of the investigation, it was revealed that all of the youths seen beating Imran in that video were Muslims. In police interrogation, accused Imran Khan confessed that when he was in GMCH, someone asked him to shoot the fake video that he was beaten up by some youths and was being compelled to say Jai Shri Ram. PSI Krushna Ghayal registered a case in this regard under the guidance of PI Sambhaji Pawar. Imran Khan is thus booked for breaching the peace and trying to incite communal disharmony by making a fake video. Imran Khan is now arrested by the CIDCO police.

This is not an isolated incident of people dragging the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan to push their propaganda. Multiple such fake incidents have been reported in the past where people tried to defame the holy chant for Hindus.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman clarifies that only the center will bear the burden of excise duty reduction on fuel, hits out at the opposition’s false claims

Following the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the government of India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman issued a clarification on Sunday to the opposition’s criticism of the excise duty drop affecting states’ share of central taxes.

In response to the Opposition’s criticism of the excise duty cut, the Finance Minister stated that the central government will bear the full cost of the Rs 8 per litre reduction on petrol and Rs 6 reduction on diesel. This information was shared by the Finance Minister in a series of tweets.

The Finance Minister stated that Basic Excise Duty (BED), Special Additional Excise duty (SAED), Road & Infrastructure Cess (RIC) and Agriculture & Infrastructure Development Cess (AIDC) together constitute Excise Duty on petrol and diesel. Only the Basic ED is sharable with states whereas SAED, RIC & AIDC are non-shareable. The excise duty cut has only come from this non-shareable part which is totally borne by the centre.

She stated that the Rs 8/litre reduction in fuel excise duty and Rs 6/litre reduction in diesel excise duty (both effective from 22nd May 2022) was totally funded by the Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC). She went on to say that even in November 2021, the Rs 5/litre petrol and Rs 10/litre diesel price reductions were made totally in RIC.

“Basic ED which is sharable with states has not been touched. Therefore, the entire burden of these two duty cuts (made in Nov, 21 and yesterday) is borne by the Centre,” she said.

Further slamming the opposition, the Finance Minister maintained that data from the Reserve Bank of India indicated that the Modi government spent Rs 90.9 lakh crores on developmental spending from 2014 to 2022, compared to only Rs 49.2 lakh crores from 2004 to 2014.

She stated that the duty reduction from Sunday will cost the government Rs 1,000,000 crores per year, while the duty reduction in November 2021 will cost the government Rs 1,20,000 crores per year.

Ms Sitharaman concluded that the entire spending made by the Modi government on food, fuel, and fertiliser subsidies so far comprises Rs 24.85 lakh crores, plus the Rs 26.3 lakh crores spent as capital expenditure. During the UPA’s ten years in power, just Rs 13.9 lakh crores were spent on subsidies.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the central government will lower the central excise duty on petrol and diesel. This has eventually cut the retail price of petrol by Rs 9.5 and diesel by Rs 7.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy cites speeches by Dr Ambedkar to school Rahul Gandhi on his ‘India is a Union of States’ remark

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered a controversial speech in London questioning the idea of India and instigating people to resort to mass action against the Indian state, the Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region hit out at the Gandhi-scion for challenging India’s national unity by referring it to as as a “union of states” and not a nation.

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi had described that India is not described as a nation in our constitution, but as India, that is Bharat, is a union of states. Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the design that was developed by Mahatma Gandhi, which emerged from the freedom movement, was a negotiation between the states, identities and religions, and all these states got together and created a negotiated peace.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s assertions, Union Minister Kishan Reddy cited the speeches made by Dr BR Ambedkar in the parliament and dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s dangerous sub-nationalism rhetoric.

“The best fact-checker for Rahul Gandhi’s rubbish is Babasaheb Ambedkar himself,” tweeted Kishan Reddy. Dr Ambedkar was a jurist, economist and politician who headed the drafting committee of the Constitution of India.

In his tweets, the Union Minister laid out the discussion in the Constituent Assembly debates and the statement made by Dr BR Ambedkar on November 4th 1948. He cited a statement made by Dr Ambedkar on November 4th, 1948, where he had touched on various topics that included the special features of the constitution, the criticism of Fundamental Rights and the objection to the description of India in Article 1 of the Draft Constitution as a Union of States.

The Union Minister quoted the statement made by Babasaheb Ambedkar on this topic, saying, “The Drafting Committee wanted to make it clear that though India was to be a federation, the Federation was not the result of an agreement by the States to join in a Federation”.

“The Federation was not the result of an agreement by the states to join in a Federation & the Federation not being the result of an agreement no State has the right to secede from it,” Kishan Reddy quoted Ambedkar as he responded to Rahul Gandhi’s “union of states” comment.

Rahul Gandhi should know that India was never a negotiation, said Kishan Reddy, while referring to another quote, “The Federation is a Union because it is indestructible. Though the country and the people may be divided into different States for convenience of administration, the country is one integral whole … derived from a single source”.

Rahul Gandhi calls for ‘mass action’ against India from foreign soil

On Friday, Congress leader and Gandhi-scion Rahul Gandhi, who is on a visit to London, promoted anarchy in the country as he called for “mass action” against the Indian state.

Speaking at the ‘Ideas for India’ conclave in the United Kingdom, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that the country is being controlled by the “deep state”, which is causing the damage. Hence, according to Rahul Gandhi, a large ‘mass action’ against the Indian state is necessary to free the institutions that are controlled by the RSS.

Defining the “deep state” in London, he said that not just RSS but even ED and CBI are a part of the “deep state”. Essentially, while promoting anarchy in India, Rahul Gandhi was dog-whistling the USA with phrases like “deep state”.

Calling for the opposition to unite, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the opposition parties should understand that they no longer fight the BJP. This is not just a purely political fight, the Gandhi-scion added, suggesting that they are now fighting the institutional structure of the Indian state, which has been “captured” by an organisation.

“The only way for us we have no respite from the institutional framework of the country. The only way is to go to the large masses of the Indian people. That is not just the Congress, that is all opposition parties,” said Rahul Gandhi in his speech in London.

Congress is basically structuring that transition where it can go back to its roots and start moving toward mass action, said the Gandhi-scion, as he urged the opposition parties to instigate masses to rebel against the Indian state.

Besides Rahul Gandhi, opposition leaders, including CPI(M) ‘s Sitaram Yechury, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and TMC’s Mahua Moitra, have also travelled to London to participate in the event organised by the non-profit think-tank Bridge India.

West Bengal: Arjun Singh defects to TMC, had accused party goons of repeatedly attacking him

On Sunday (May 22), BJP leader Arjun Singh deserted the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined hands with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He is a sitting Member of parliament from the Barrackpore constituency of West Bengal.

He was inducted into the party in the presence of Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata. Singh served as a member of the TMC between 1998 and 2019.

He had then defected to the BJP and went on to become the party’s Vice-President in West Bengal. Singh, a seasoned politician, again changed his party affiliation on May 22, 2022.

While there were rumours about him joining the TMC, Singh had earlier met Abhishek Banerjee at his office.

Until 3 days ago, Arjun Singh was seen promoting an event in Vadodara where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a large gathering of young individuals.

Prior to his defection to the Trinamool Congress, Arjun Singh was seen posting cryptic poems on social media. “Heard that the sea has risen with a sense of pride…Row the boat in the direction of the storm,” read one such tweet.

TMC goons attacked Arjun Singh in the past

Starting in 2019, the now TMC leader has faced several attacks from his own party.

In September last year, 3 bombs were hurled at his house allegedly by TMC goons. “Criminals have no fear because they have the protection of TMC and West Bengal Police. The criminals are roaming around openly, the Police have become the ‘Daldas’ of the Trinamool. I was never afraid of such attacks, and I will not be afraid,” he had remarked then.

He was again attacked in January this year but nonetheless decided to join hands with the same party.

AAP MLA ‘bc’ Amanatullah Khan sends defamation notice to Delhi Police

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan who was declared a ‘bad character’ (BC) by Delhi police has now filed a defamation case against the Delhi police. He shared this information from his Twitter handle. In his tweet, he said, “The police should tell me what lands have I occupied or where have I done illegal construction? Where did I incite riots? Which gang am I part of? Today, I have sent a notice of defamation to Delhi Police, they should either apologize or pay damages.”

He said in another tweet, “The Delhi Police is constantly targeting me. This time, the Delhi Police has also attacked my family as well as the right to dignity and the right to live with dignity. Delhi police are weaving fabricated stories without any evidence”

In his 15-page long notice, Amanatullah Khan’s lawyer said, “To the utmost shock and disbelief of our client, it came to his knowledge that a Delhi Spokesperson having a massive following on Twitter of a political party controlling the dispensation at the Centre, at 14:08 hours from his official Twitter handle, tweeted that: ‘Amanullah Khan declared BC by Delhi Police’ and also shared the photographic image of the dossier containing the mug-shots of our client, which also had the signatures of the SHO, P.S. Jamia Nagar.”

The notice further said, “It is reiterated for the sake of pertinence that the purported dossier of our client is a ‘confidential document’ and not a ‘Public Document’ per se, is not accessible to the public, and as such is prohibited to be shared with any member of the public as envisaged in regulation 23 of the Punjab Police Rules, 1934. The sharing of our client’s purported dossier and proposal in question is a confidential document by the Spokesperson of the political party controlling the dispensation at the Centre raises serious questions on the propriety and functioning of the Delhi Police in as much as our client’s purported dossier has not been leaked by a private individual but strangely by none other than the Delhi Police who is entrusted with a statutory duty to preserve its confidentiality.”

The notice said that the steps taken by police have thus violated Amanatullah Khan’s fundamental right to privacy and right to live. The notice sent by Amanatullah Khan further said, “When reputation is hurt, a man is half-dead. It is an honour which deserves to be equally preserved by the downtrodden and the privileged. The aroma of reputation is excellence which cannot be allowed to have sullied with the passage of time. It is dear to live and on some occasions, it is dearer than life. And that is why it has become an inseparable facet of Article 21 of the Constitution. No one would like his reputation dented, and it is perceived as an honour rather than popularity.”

Threatening the Delhi police of a probable mental condition one may develop due to so-called harassment, Amanatullah Khan said in his notice, “The disconcerting facts are discernable in the present case, it is manifestly apparent that our client has been deeply humiliated with indelible scars on his mind. Such treatment is basically inhuman and causes mental trauma. The psychological torture of one human by another can have emotionally damaging effects comparable to, and possibly worse than, those seen with combat and other types of trauma. Any psychological torture inflicts immense mental pain. Mental suffering at any age in life can carry the brunt and may have a nightmarish effect on the victim.”

The notice concluded with a demand for an unconditional apology by the Delhi police for what the notice calls a brazen infraction of the fundamental rights of Amanatullah Khan including the right to privacy, reputation, and life with dignity – all of which according to the notice are included in the right to life. He also demanded immediate remedial measures for revocation of the dossier and history sheet and strike off the entries there. In case the Delhi police do not do this, Amanatullah Khan has asked for a compensation of rupees 10 crores.

Amanatullah Khan was earlier declared a Bad Character by the Delhi Police, a day after he was arrested for clashes that erupted in Madanpur Khadar, Delhi, during the anti-encroachment drive.
