Ghaziabad police arrest one Mohsin after a video of him spitting on rotis before cooking at an engagement ceremony goes viral

On March 13, the Ghaziabad police arrested one Mohammad Mohsin after a video of him making rotis while spitting on them at the wedding ceremony went viral on the microblogging site. Replying to a Twitter user @TheAshwiniRaj, who shared the video of the disturbing incident on the social media site, Ghaziabad police informed that they have registered an FIR against the youth invoking relevant sections and arrested him. The police are now questioning him.

Moreover, the police have also named the caterers, who were given the catering contract for the wedding, in the FIR.

The incident purportedly took place on March 11 in the Bhojpur area of Ghaziabad district. The cook identified as Mohammad Mohsin in seen making rotis and spitting on them.

According to media reports, the incident happened during the engagement ceremony of the nephew of one Shivkumar on Thursday, in one educational institute premises near Dausa Banjarpur falling under the Bhojpur police station limits. Mohammad Mohsin was making rotis at this engagement ceremony when he was caught red-handed spitting on the dough prepared for the rotis before putting it in the tandoor. He was also secretly filmed doing the same. The video of the incident went viral the next day.

On Friday, when Mohsin realised that the video of the incident has gone viral on social media, he fled from his village along with his family members.

After watching the viral video, Ghaziabad police sprang into action. The police approached Shivkumar to confirm whether the video was genuine. After verifying they spoke to the catering company which had hired Mohsin, to know his whereabouts. On learning that Mohsin was a resident of Sahbiswa in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, the police reached his house to arrest him but Mohsin had fled by then. The police immediately launched a manhunt and arrested the accused.

Ghaziabad incident is a reminder of a similar incident where one Naushad was caught indulging in the same act in Meerut in February

The video of the incident which is being shared widely on various social media sites, makes one recall a similar incident that was reported widely in the month of February where one Naushad alias Suhail was arrested by Meerut Police for indulging in the same act.

During interrogation, it was reportedly revealed that Naushad worked as a cook in wedding ceremonies for the last 15 years. A video had surfaced in which he allegedly confessed to spitting on food for at least ten years. After his video went viral, followed by his arrest, several other videos had started circulating on social media with similar incidents.

Possibility of a nexus indulging in unholy acts

Due to the gross nature of the incident and the ongoing pandemic situation, the Uttar Pradesh police had then initiated an investigation to see if this Meerut case was an isolated incident or if there is a nexus that indulge in such activities.

Yashwant Sinha, former BJP leader, has joined the Trinamool Congress on Saturday. He was the Union Minister of Finance in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and served as the Minister of External Affairs for a time as well.

His son, Jayant Sinha, is a Minister in the Modi cabinet. Yashwant Sinha sung a familiar hymn at the TMC Bhavan in Kolkata. “The country is facing an unprecedented situation today. The strength of democracy lies in the strength of the institutions of democracy. All these institutions including the judiciary have become weak now,” he said.

He continued, “BJP during Atal Ji’s time believed in consensus but today’s government believes in crushing & conquering. Akalis, BJD have left the BJP. Today, who is standing with BJP?”

Yashwant Sinha had joined hands with Prashant Bhushan initially after quitting the BJP in 2018. Since leaving the party, he had joined the efforts demanding investigation into the procurement of the Rafale jets but the petitions were rejected by the Supreme Court because it lacked merits.

During lockdown, he sat on a dharna and then declared on social media that he had been arrested. Prior to the Lok Sabha Elections in 2019, Yashwant Sinha further strengthened his ‘secular’ credentials when he attended an event organized by a man who blamed RSS for the Mumbai Terror Attacks.

The so-called farmer leaders, who have now established a permanent colony of brick and mortar houses outside the Delhi border, have at last left all the pretence of being ‘apolitical’. Although it was known from the beginning that the so-called protest against three farm laws is nothing but propaganda against the Modi government, the left-liberal media had tried hard to paint it as a genuine agitation of farmers. But with the assembly elections starting in 4 states and one UT, the farmer leaders have decided to jump into the political arena.

The protesting leaders have decided to focus on West Bengal, where the election battle is most heated, as Mamata Banerjee faces a tough challenge from BJP. BJP is almost certain to win in Assam, and it has slim chance in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as such, the opposition parties are putting their best efforts in Bengal for preventing BJP in grabbing power. As part of that strategy, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait reached Kolkata today, where officially he is scheduled to address Kisan Mahapanchayats in Kolkata and other locations.

However, Tikait has made it clear that in the Mahapanchayats, he will also campaign against the BJP, and will ask the attendees to defeat BJP in the elections. Although Tikait said that he will appeal to the voters of Bengal to vote against the BJP, he claimed that he is not supporting any political party in the assembly elections.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the umbrella organisation of farmer organisations running the protests, has also released an appeal for the farmers to vote against BJP. A pamphlet released by it starts with the title- ‘An appeal to the farmers of Bengal, give proper lesson to anti-farmer BJP in these elections’.

It says that if farmers of Bengal punished BJP in the elections, it will learn a proper lesson. ‘If BJP losses the Bengal elections, its pride will be shattered and Modiji will have to accept the demands of the farmers’, the pamphlet issued by SKM says.

It says that it is not telling whom to vote, and the farmers can vote as per their choice, but they should not do the mistake of pressing the button next to the lotus. The pamphlet further adds as they are not able to send it to every farmer in the state, the recipient should copy the same and distribute it among others, or share the same through mobile phones.

Even though Rakesh Tikait said they are not supporting any political party, when he reached Kolkata, TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen was present at the Kolkata airport to welcome him. He said that he will go to Nandigram, the constituency from where CM Mamata Banerjee is contesting. A Kishan Mahapanchayat is also being organised in Nandigram.

As part of the campaign, SKM leaders are expected to campaign extensively against the BJP in West Bengal during the 8-phase assembly elections starting from 27th April.

AICTE withdraws notification, says Physics, Mathematics continue to be important subjects for engineering courses

A day after media reports had emerged that mathematics and physics at Class XII-level are being made optional for admission to engineering courses, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Friday said that they would be withdrawing the earlier notification that hinted at a change in the eligibility criteria for engineering courses, reports Times of India.

A major controversy had erupted on Friday after AICTE, the technical education regulator, had made Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) optional for students who wanted to pursue technical courses like biotechnology, textile or agriculture engineering at the undergraduate level. 

In a virtual release of the handbook, AICTE chairperson Anil Sahasrabudhe had said the revised regulation is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) vision that encourages flexibility in the choice of subjects.

“In 2010, AICTE made only physics and maths mandatory for nearly seven to eight subjects. We have been facing challenges as new disciplines have emerged where many students questioned why they have to study chemistry when they don’t use it in their entire career. Similarly, many students demanded to study biology as they need to pursue biotechnology. Therefore, we are creating a new window for students who have either not taken maths or physics or chemistry but can enter into engineering,” Sahasrabudhe had said.

The AICTE also said that PCM was made compulsory for only 14 subjects, from which students can choose three and secure a minimum 45 per cent in each to take up engineering. The AICTE had also asked colleges to offer suitable bridge courses to engineering aspirants.

AICTE backtracks and withdraws the handbook, says not mandatory on institutions

However, the change in the eligibility criteria to make important application-level subjects such as Mathematics and Physics as ‘optional’ had not gone well with the public, who protested against such a change.

Following the outrage, the AICTE has withdrawn its approval process handbook (APH) for 2021-22, which had the new eligibility criteria. The AICTE has also clarified that the changes are not binding on institutions.

Clarifying the changes, AICTE chairperson Anil Sahasrabudhe said, “Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics will continue to be important subjects for certain streams of engineering like mechanical engineering, it’s not that these subjects will lose their relevance. However, for streams like Textile Engineering, Agriculture or maybe Biotechnology, students will have an option of not studying the three subjects compulsorily in class 12 and make up for them through bridge courses later”.

The AICTE, in its website, announced, “It is to inform all concerned that APH 2021-22 has been withdrawn for a typographical correction, and it will be placed again on the AICTE website within a day or two.”

Man attempts suicide by setting himself on fire at the residence of Congress leader Maha Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat: Here is why

On Tuesday (March 9), a man tried to set himself on fire at the residence of the sitting Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Congress legislator Balasaheb Thorat.

As per reports, the victim is a resident of the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Identified as Pandurang Wagh, he attempted suicide for not receiving the refund from the Maharashtra government for the licence fee paid for a stalled sand mining project.

Reportedly, Wagh had obtained his licence for sand extraction in 2018 for a fee of ₹8.72 lac. However, the project had to be discontinued over frequent ‘protests’ by locals, resulting in huge monetary loss.

Distraught by the stalling of the project, the victim tried to approach the revenue Department authorities for a refund of the licence fee. However, when he failed to get his refund, Wagh decided to end his life. In order to draw the attention of the sitting Minister Balasaheb Thorat, the victim poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire in the special executive officer hall of Royal Stone (the residence of Thorat).

Victim arrested, released on bail later

He was saved by the police officials present at the residence of the Revenue Minister. While speaking about the incident, Senior Inspector (Gamdevi) Rg Rajbhar stated, “Wagh was detained and taken to the police station. We arrested him under section 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of Indian Penal Code and released him on bail with a warning not to repeat such act in future.”

In the poll-bound state of Assam, a BJP booth president of Buridihing Gaon Panchayat in Tinsukia district was stabbed to death on Friday.

The deceased identified as Debananda Gogoi was a resident of Doomdooma Nagaon village under Bordumsa police station. One person named Joychandra Gogoi has reportedly been arrested in connection with the case.

Joychandra Gogoi belongs to the same village. He allegedly fled the village after committing the crime but was nabbed by police. The weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered by the police. The reason for the murder is not known therefore it cannot be conclusively said whether there was a political motive behind the killing or a personal reason.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and state cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the incident

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the incident and expressed condolence for the family and friends of the deceased.

He said that he spoke to the DGP to take cognisance of the case and oversee the investigation for bringing the culprit to book as soon as possible. Assam cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he was “shocked and anguished” by the incident. Condemning “the act of violence”, Himata Biswa assured that the family of the deceased would get justice.

Assam will go to polls on March 27. The state assembly elections will be held in three phases between March 27 to April 6. The results of the election will be declared on May 2.

A day after UP Shia Central Waqf Board ex-chairperson, Syed Waseem Rizvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to remove 26 verses of the Quran alleging that it promoted terrorism and Jihad, the Muslim clerics have taken offence to Shia leader’s petition. One of the Muslim clerics has gone a step ahead to offer a bounty of Rs 20,000 for anyone who brings Rizvi’s head.

According to the reports, Waseem Rizvi’s decision to file a petition seeking the removal of objectionable parts in the Quran has not gone well within the Muslim community. Muslim clerics have condemned Rizvi for challenging the Holy Quran and its chapters.

In response to Rizvi’s petition, Islamic Cleric Hasnain Jaffrey Dumpy, the national president of Islamic organisation – Shiane-Haider-e-Karrar Welfare Association, has now announced a bounty of Rs 20,000 to anybody who beheads Rizvi. Reportedly, Dumpy had released a video issuing death threats to Rizvi and condemned the petition filed against the Quran.

Shia cleric Dumpy said he would launch a nationwide campaign against Waseem Rizvi for disrespecting Quran and said that former Shia Waqf Board chairman would be boycotted in the future. After issuing bounty, Islamic cleric Dumpy also urged the administration to take action against Rizvi for allegedly attempting to hurt Muslims’ sentiments by speaking ill of Quran. He claimed Rizvi’s statement could incite violence in society and demanded his immediate arrest.

“During his tenure as Shia Waqf board chief, Waseem Rizvi has indulged in corruption. Rizvi is being instigated to make such statements against someone’s instructions. We demand strict against the culprits,” said Hasnain Jaffrey Dumpy.

Islamic cleric demand arrest of Rizvi, accuses him of not being a Muslim

Meanwhile, Maulana Khalid Rashid has demanded the Uttar Pradesh government to take strict action against Waseem Rizvi for filing a petition in the Supreme Court. Another cleric Kalbe Jawad Naqvi called Waseem Rizvi as the descendant of Yazidis, a sect that is generally considered non-Muslims by orthodox Muslims.

The Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian President Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi also strongly condemned the petition challenging the Holy Quran and its chapters. In a statement, Aga Hassan said that Waseem Razvi acted at the behest of a majoritarian regime that has systematically eroded Muslims’ dignity in general and Kashmiris in particular.

“We strongly condemn the communal policies that are furthered by its mercenaries across the country. Their abominable plots for the purpose of their despicable designs will be resisted by all of us by standing together against such forces.”

The Islamic cleric demanded Waseem Razvi be booked under Section 295A of IPC and other relevant provisions for deliberately and maliciously hurting our feelings by insulting the holy book.

Waseem Rizvi files petition in Supreme Court

On Thursday, Syed Waseem Rizvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking that “26 verses of the Quran be removed”. In his petition, Rizvi has stated that the Quran, the holy book of Muslims, has “some verses that are used to promote terrorism, violence, jihad”.

In the PIL, Rizvi has claimed that these verses were added to the holy book of Muslims later. “These verses were added to the Quran, by the first three Caliphs, to aid the expansion of Islam by war”, the former Chairman of the Shia Waqf Board said according to media reports.

Rizvi wrote in the petition that “after Mohammad, the first Caliphs Hazrat Abu Bakr, the second Caliphs Hazrat Umar and the third namely Hazrat Usman released the Quran as a book, based on the oral preachings of Mohammad”. This was passed on from generation to generation.

Rizvi has added in his petition that almost 26 verses that were added to the Quran by these Caliphs promoted violence. According to Rizvi, terrorists use these verses to fuel jihad. He also said that these verses are used to mislead the young Muslims generation, provoking them to become radicals and terrorists resulting in the massacre of millions of innocents.

Australia: Two women arrested, face up to 10 years in jail for planning genital mutilation of a two-week-old baby girl

Two women in Australia are reportedly facing legal action for planning the genital mutilation of a two-week-old baby girl. The women named Sabrina Lightbody and Noridah Binte Mohd are from a suburb in the Cannington Police District in Perth’s South.

The two women had reportedly asked a doctor in January this year to conduct the genital mutilation of the baby. However, the doctor refused to conduct genital mutilation and informed the authorities about it.

An investigation was reportedly initiated by Child Abuse Squad detectives in the matter. Female genital mutilation is a crime in Western Australia. The Western Australia police have charged the women with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. They appeared before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Friday.

Magistrate describes the practice as a serious offence

Declining the women’s request to regain the custody of the baby that is with the child protection authorities, Magistrate Steven Malley described genital mutilation as a serious offence. The Magistrate said that handing the baby to the women would amount to “putting (the baby) back into lion’s den”. The women may be imprisoned for a maximum of 10 years if convicted in the case.

The Police in their statement said that the genital mutilation was planned as part of cultural beliefs. “The WA Police Force embraces the diversity provided by the many cultural and ethnic groups that form our community”, a police spokesperson reportedly said. The procedures involving the removal of part of or all of the external female genitalia or causing injury to female genital organs for non-medical reasons are illegal across Australia. Reports suggest that around 53,000 women have undergone female genital mutilation across Australia.

Female genital mutilation can be performed at any age including just before marriage, during pregnancy or post-birth

The practise of female genital mutilation is reportedly carried out between the ages of 4 and 10 but it may also be conducted later, before marriage, during pregnancy or post-birth. While several reasons are cited as the motivation for female genital mutilation including psychosexual and sociological reasons, the practice is said to be mandated in Islamic law.

Trouble mounts for Sachin Vaze in Mansukh Hiren death case: Anticipatory bail rejected, bail hearing now on hearing on March 19

Days after Assistant Inspector Sachin Vaze was removed from Mumbai Police Crime Branch in the aftermath of the Mansukh Hiren death case, his interim anticipatory bail plea has now been rejected by a Sessions Court in Thane. The case revolves around the bomb threat to industrialist Mukesh Ambani and the subsequent death of Mansukh Hiren, who was the owner of the explosives-laden car and had reported it missing.

Anticipatory bail rejected

While hearing his bail plea on Friday, the court refused to provide any relief and adjourned the hearing in the case till March 19. The Court will now hear his bail plea on March 19th.

Regular bail hearing on 19th

Since the anticipatory bail has been rejected for Sachin Vaze and now the court will hear his bail plea on 19th, it stands to reason that Sachin Vaze can be arrested in the Mansukh Hiren case in the meantime by ATS.

As per reports, Vaze was transferred from the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Crime Branch to the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC). It must be mentioned that CFC is responsible for police clearances for passports and licences. His transfer from Crime Branch took place following accusations of his involvement in the death of her husband (Mansukh Hiren).

After the case was transferred to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), they have interrogated and recorded the statement of Sachin Vaze. Interestingly, the Assistant Inspector was suspended for 16 years, starting in 2004, for the custodial death of one Khwaja Yunus. After being reinstated in service, he was handed cases ranging from TRP scam to fake followers’ scam.

Antilia bomb scare and death of Mansukh Hiren

On February 25, a Scorpio car with 20 gelatin sticks was found parked near Antilia, the multi-storey residence of Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai. The police had claimed that a Telegram channel was created on February 26 and the message claiming the responsibility of the attack was posted through the channel on February 27. On the following day, Jaish Ul Hind allegedly used another channel on Telegram. The terror group claimed that they did not post the previous message and they had no connection to the SUV parked outside Ambani’s house.

The police believe that the second message was sent from outside the country, but the location could not be pinned. The message that was sent from Tihar Jail demanded money from Ambanis. A link for payment through cryptocurrency was also mentioned in the message. However, the link was not functioning, according to Mumbai Police. The message claimed that it was only a trailer, and “the big picture was yet to come.” It further added, “the brother who placed the SUV near the Ambani house has reached the safe house.”

The case had gotten murkier and murkier after the link of Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze with the owner of the Scorpio car surfaced. Vaze was reportedly in touch with Mansukh Hiren, the owner of the car, since June 2020. Hiren was subsequently found dead in the Kalwa creek, which only served to deepen the mystery surrounding the attack against Mukesh Ambani. The investigative agencies probing the matter are looking into all possible angles, including the role of Indian Mujahideen in the attack against the billionaire businessman.

Days after Rutgers-Newark University stoked a massive controversy by supporting controversial ‘historian’ and Professor Audrey Truschke by whitewashing her anti-Hindu remarks and views as ‘academic freedom’, the university has now backtracked a bit and issued an apology to the Hindu community for failing to communicate properly causing misunderstanding. However, they have remained silent in their latest statement about the conduct of Audrey Truschke.

In a statement released on Friday, the Rutgers-Newark University said they support the Hindu community members and expressed ‘sincerest apologies’ for their failure to communicate clearly in their previous message.

“At our meeting today with members of the Rutgers Hindu community, this misunderstanding was made clear and again we apologize. We are sorry for the hurt that members of the Hindu community have been experiencing in relation to recent events. Our commitment to inclusion includes religion, not just the right but the freedom to celebrate as an individual or community without fear,” said Rutgers University.

The Rutgers University, which has backed Audrey Truschke’s vile bigotry against Hindus and their culture, said that they know that the sacred traditions of Hinduism are central to the identities that define Hindu individuals, families, and communities.

“We abhor the vile messages and threats that are being directed at Hindu students and call for an immediate end to them,” said Rutgers university after meeting Hindu students who met the administration to apprise them of the hateful propaganda peddled by Audrey Truschke in the name of the ‘history’.

The statement said, “We are grateful to the student leaders across Rutgers University who raised their voices and personalized the sentiments of our Hindu community. We will be working in partnership with them to foster an environment that educates and embraces the range of cultural and religious identities, scholarly traditions, and perspectives of this community. This will be difficult work, but we will do this together because it is essential to live into our values and realize the promise of constructive and healthy engagement in a diverse community.”

Importantly, in its response, Rutgers University has neither mentioned Audrey Truschke nor her bigotry against Hindus and their culture. Instead, the university has just apologised to the Hindu community for not communicating properly following the controversy. The university, in fact, has not taken any action against the alleged ‘historian’ Truschke for her false propaganda against Hindus, instead, it has issued a statement, which incidentally appears to be another hogwash.

It is pertinent to note that Rutgers had claimed that they emphatically support Professor Truschke and her academic freedom in pursuing her scholarship. The university had said they abhor the alleged vile messages and threats that are being directed at her.

More issues were discussed, this is just a start: Hindu activists

Meanwhile, the group of Hindu students studying at Rutgers-Newark who were the first to shed light on Truschke’s bigotry, have met the university administration to discuss the Hinduphobia in the university campus, especially peddled by the likes of Truschke.

According to Dr Indu Viswanathan, who is coordinating with the Hindu students on the issue, more issues have been discussed and agreed upon than what appears in the statement released by the university.

Taking to Twitter, she said that this is a process, and there is a strategy to address the issue, and it was a huge step towards institutional recognition of Hinduphobia, which has never happened in history.

Hindu students expose Audrey Truschke’s Hinduphobia , Rutgers hails it as ‘academic freedom’

The controversy broke out after several Hindu students of Rutgers University had written a letter to the university in reaction to ‘historian’ Audrey Truschke’s attempts to sell Hinduphobic fiction in the name of ‘history.

In its petition, the group of Hindu students studying at Rutgers-Newark pointed out that Audrey Truschke tired to trivialise and downplay the Hindu genocide committed by the Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb. The students who initiated the petition were miffed with Truschke’s continuous vile and bigoted opinions against Hindus.

In an open letter written to the university authorities, the students said that they are “aghast at the bigotry being peddled against Hindus via continued derision of our religion, our deities, and our sacred texts” in the university, which may be a potential threat to their security, as it may lead to “potential attacks, bullying, and backlash, either on campus or via social media, due to our faith”.

The petition specified how the atmosphere in the university is at odds with the Hindu student due to the hateful and vile anti-Hindu remarks made by professor Audrey Truschke on various occasions.

Castigating the administration of Rutgers University for its bias towards a professor who has always painted Hinduism through the lens of violence, extremism and sex, the students demanded that “Prof Truschke be disallowed to teach a course that involves materials related to Hinduism and India due to her inherent prejudiced views”.

However, Rutgers University, instead of addressing the concerns of Hindu students, had backed Audrey Truschke and whitewashed her vile and bigoted anti-Hindu remarks as ‘academic freedom’.

Statement released by Rutgers-Newark

In a statement released on Tuesday, the university said, “Rutgers emphatically supports Professor Truschke, academic freedom in pursuing her scholarship, abhors the vile messages end threats that are being directed at her, and calls for an immediate end to them.” To further justify its support for the controversial historian, Rutgers cited the significance of ‘academic freedom’ in scholarship.
