Alleged ‘Netflix’ documentary on corruption in Pakistan gets Imran Khan supporters excited: Here is all you need to know

In social media circles in Pakistan, a trailer that appears as the prologue of a documentary on political corruption has been making the rounds. The clip has been shared by several people including many influential leaders in the country. It was also shared by Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

Sharing the clip, the former minister wrote on Twitter, “Coming soon.”

Following this, a trend on Twitter began that Netflix was releasing a documentary on corruption in Pakistan. Pakistanis were excited to share how this will be a big exposure of how the deep state functioned in Pakistan during the tenure of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

PTI supporters and several journalists are peddling the trailer as an attack on the Nawaz Sharif government and the Shahbaz Sharif government for the widespread corruption during their reign. Several others are seeing it as a documentary sponsored by Imran Khan-led PTI. A Pakistani Twitter user wrote below the tweet by Fawad Hussain, “Paid documentary sponsored by @PTIofficial Can this documentary be used as proof against Shahbaz Sharif in courts??”

The documentary ‘Behind Closed Doors’

The uproar on social media in Pakistan is over a documentary that is titled ‘Behind Closed Doors.’ As the teaser of the film has garnered attention and spread the notion that it is a documentary on corruption in Pakistan and is to be aired on Netflix, there are no signs that the OTT platform is going to host the film.

The clip was first released on the YouTube channel of Independent POV, the production house which has backed the documentary. As per its website, Independent POV is “an independent production company, producing documentaries that explore the themes of secrecy and abuse of power. The films aim to challenge dogma and encourage thinking.”

About the documentary, a page on the official website of Independent POV mentions: “Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) are people who hold a public function and as a result present higher risks of being involved in bribery or corruption. Offshore leaks have revealed repeatedly that PEPs use British finance and British offshore jurisdictions to launder their wealth, hide their wealth and re-invest it into the global financial system. London is the place where they buy property, where they take legal action against their critics and where they live when they fall from grace.”

A screengrab of the website.

On the website, it is mentioned that the film has contributions from Imran Khan, Arshad Sharif, John-Allan Namu, Tom Stocks, Rachel Davies Teka, Fawad Chaudry, Emin Huseynov, Shazad Akbar, Irfan Hashmi. Among the contributors in former Pak PM Imran Khan, former minister Fawad Chaudhry, and Arshad Sharif. As per reports, Arshad Sharif is a journalist having close ties with the PTI.

Notably, even the website does not mention the distributor of the film. Additionally, hours after the teaser went viral, Pakistani TV host Shiffa Yousafzai said Netflix has not yet officially confirmed that the documentary would be released on the OTT.

Though this trailer has amused Pakistanis, there are no signs that it will be an official Netflix release. Pakistan is already facing a financial and political crisis in the country. Months earlier, the politics in the country saw a churning when Imran Khan lost the confidence motion and Shehbaz Sharif was chosen as the Prime Minister of the country.

In April 2018, Pakistan’s Supreme Court charged former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam, and son-in-law Captain Mohammad Safdar on corruption charges related to ownership of properties in London. Following a Supreme Court investigation into the Panama Papers, three-time former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was ousted from Parliament in July 2017.

Pakistan: 14-year-old Hindu teenager kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam and married off to her abductor Shaukat

0

Sindh province in Pakistan has been the hotbed of religious persecution, especially for those belonging to minority Hindu, Christian and Sikh communities. In recent years, there has been a wave of incidents where minor girls have been abducted and forcefully converted to Islam. In the most recent case, a 14-year-old Hindu girl was forcefully married to a Muslim man after converting to Islam, reports Firstpost.

The incident took place in the Islamkot tehsil in the Tharparkar district in Sindh, Pakistan. According to the report, the teenage girl was abducted from the village. A cleric named Samaru Pir Jan Sirhandi thereafter facilitated the forced conversion, after which she was forcefully married to her abductor Shaukat, son of Murad Hanhrjo, her family members alleged.

The incident reportedly happened as Hindus in Pakistan’s Hyderabad haven taken to the streets to protest the forced religious conversion of their girls and boys. The protesters have been demanding immediate legislation on the issue of the abduction of minority girls.

Hindus in Pakistan live in perpetual fear of persecution at the hands of the Muslim majority. News reports of Hindu women kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam, and married off to their abductors have become par for the course across the length and breadth of Pakistan but particularly stark in the southern province of Sindh. Even courts and judiciary have failed in providing justice to the Hindus as they had, in many cases, sided with the abductors and ordered Hindu women to live with their kidnappers. And not just women, but men too have been the victim of Islamic conversions in Pakistan.

In another similar incident, a Hindu man was forcibly converted to Islam by a cleric in the Sindh province of Pakistan on October 9. The victim was identified as Ajay Kumar. Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro, the General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-e-Sindh, facilitated the forced conversion at the Jamia Islamia Masjid in Larkana city of Sindh.

Mass conversion of Hindus in Sindh, Pakistan

In July last year, Opindia reported that as many as 60 Hindus were converted en masse to Islam in the Sindh province of Pakistan.

Similarly, in the year 2020, as many as 171 Hindu men, women and children belonging to the highly marginalised and socio-economically backward Bhil community have forcefully been converted to Islam in the Sindh province of Pakistan.

Journalism means never having to say you’re sorry – What has The Wire ended up proving about left-wing journalism

I would like to start this piece by apologising to Erich Segal for using this line here. If you have followed The Wire vs Meta circus, you’d have noticed how with every ‘proof’ The Wire tangled itself further and it has now reached where every time they provide ‘proof’, their ‘evidence’ has fallen apart.

It all started when one obscure troll account complained to The Wire that their posts were being taken down by Instagram. If you’ve spent time on social media platforms, these tech giants have algorithm in place where sometimes even harmless posts get taken down over ‘violation’ of community guidelines. However, it is also true that most of these big techs have inherently left-leaning bias and the leftist outlets, accounts have almost always gotten a longer rope while the non-left accounts get blocked quickly. For crusaders of free speech, the Left does not like jokes on themselves.

Now, when this non-entity complained to The Wire, they published one basic report and then came up with this theory that this account with less than 500 followers on Instagram was personally targeted by BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya. They claimed Malviya was in list of superusers at Meta and on his one instruction, Meta will do whatever he tells him to. In same breath, The Wire wanted us to believe that Malviya, with such incredible superpowers, would go after some random account.

The story was so incredible that it was not just the BJP supporters found it hard to believe but even the otherwise rabid Modi haters found it dubious. After Meta came on record to say that all the documents The Wire was providing to prove its theory were fabricated, The Wire doubled down and then roped in ‘independent experts’ to prove the email they were claiming to be of Meta executive, was real. Except, after publishing screenshots of the emails of their ‘experts’, one of them, Ujjwal Kumar of Microsoft, based out of Singapore office, asked Wire to remove his name and another ‘expert’ has now said that he never sent the mails The Wire claimed were sent by him.

The Wire, however, on its part, has pulled up a victim card and said they cannot take this anymore. They claim that people are asking for more evidence so that they can zero in on their ‘source’, one of whom has a personal relationship with one of the writers of The Wire. The Wire, in its updated statement has carefully edited out the personal relationship with Meta insider bit. The Wire wants everyone to question Meta and not them because they feel an Indian company is being discriminated against and Western media would not have had such scrutiny. They want Meta to be answerable, despite Meta stating very categorically that all documents Wire is providing are fabricated. In such scenario, the onus of proof would be on the one making such wild allegations, but The Wire wants to be above scrutiny because it ‘speaks truth to power’, even if such ‘truth’ is fabricated.

However, it is not too surprising coming from The Wire. The Wire had also come up with this imaginary app with superhuman powers, ‘tek fog’ to target the BJP. The Wire had claimed some bizarre features to this ‘spy app’ which was a malware installed on some journalists.

But even then the otherwise Modi-hating techbros had called out glaring loopholes in The Wire story. At that time, too, The Wire relied on dubious sources and single tweet, some screenshots (which could easily be digitally created). According to The Wire, Tek Fog had some kind of superpower, which has capabilities that even NSA of USA does not have. According to Wire, hacking top apps like Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp etc is a child’s play using the app, and all security featured of those platforms vanish with this magical piece of software. The Wire truly believed in it. As did Congress, for they demanded action on it.

But that’s where they get the courage to brazen it out. The Wire, instead of owning up that they goofed up or made a mistake or a judgement error or worst that they cooked it all up, they would rather cry ‘attacked by all powerful BJP’ and seek more funds from gullible readers who like to live in their own echo chamber. This is what the mainstream media, especially activist journalism of left wing has been doing all these decades. They believe their own lies, not accept mistakes, steadfast with propaganda than truth. And even in face of mounting tech proof, they double down and brazen it out, imagine what they would do with issues that are just about political or ideological narrative?

Back in April 2020 when the two Sadhus were lynched by a frenzied Converted Christian mob when police stood and do nothing, The Wire had tried to water it down and insinuate that the Sadhus were not Hindus. Thereby, trying to perpetuate the narrative that Hindus cannot be victims of communal violence. The Wire had claimed that both the deceased and the perpetrators belonged to denotified tribes and had declared that it was not communal violence.

The Wire’s report from April 2020

In its report, The Wire had peddled fake news by stating the two deceased persons – 70-year old Kalpvrush Giri and 35-year old Sushil Giri belonged to Gosavi Nomadic Tribe community and their brutal lynching had no religious angle as they belonged to the tribal community just as Christian-converted tribes of the Palghar. The report by The Wire insinuated that they were not Hindus and not sadhus.

The report had attributed the claim of the tribal identity of the sadhusto no one other than “social activists and Gosavi community leaders”. The report carried no comments by either the victims’ families or the Juna Akhara.

However, while the elites sitting in posh Delhi offices were busy peddling some media houses were actually on ground talking to people involved. The ground reports by Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar and news channel Aaj Tak show that the two sadhus were born in Hindu families of Brahmin caste in Uttar Pradesh. Both left their families before their teenage to become Hindu ascetics. The Bhaskar and Aaj Tak reports are based on interviews with the victims’ families and carry their video statements and photographs.

Nearly a month after carrying fake news on the identity of the victims to absolve the crimes of the brutal mob violence in Palghar, The Wire silently edited its report claiming that the two Sadhus belonged to Brahmin families contrary to their earlier report claiming they were Gosavi tribal community.

The Wire’s edit

Similar tactics are used by such The Wire and their ilk almost always forget to mention or report assaults by Dalit activists or sometimes even water down crimes committed by Islamists. In fact, despite glaring evidences, they sometimes even side with rioting mob only because the mob was against the Central government led by Modi.

For example, soon after the Republic Day riots in January 2021 when hundreds of so-called farmers desecrated the Red Fort, one ‘protestor’ Navreet Singh was killed after the tractor he was using to run over police overturned. The Wire, however, published an article insinuating that he had died of bullet injuries and not because of the injuries he sustained from the overturning of the tractor. The article further claimed that the victim’s relatives spoke to the doctor who carried out the autopsy who claimed that while there was bullet injury, ‘his hands were tied’, thereby insinuating that the UP government is trying to coverup.

What is intriguing to note here is that despite the refusal of the Uttar Pradesh Police and the deputy CMO of the hospital where the autopsy was conducted expressly denying that Navreet died of a bullet injury, The Wire did not bother to mention the same in their headline. Instead, it went ahead with a misleading headline to raise aspersions on the authenticity of the autopsy report. The District Magistrate, Rampur, even shared a signed declaration of the three doctors who had carried out the autopsy that the allegations reported by The Wire were false.

The signed declaration states that none of the three doctors who were involved in the autopsy had spoken to any mediapersons or any other persons. The autopsy was video-recorded and the findings were given in sealed envelop to the officers. Subsequently, The Wire updated the article, but they had no qualms in stirring the pot that could have led to a law and order situation.

Similarly, in June 2021, The Wire tried to force fit a ‘hate crime’ angle in the now infamous ‘Loni incident’ just because the victim of alleged assault was a Muslim man. It tied itself in knots after an FIR was registered against it for spreading fake news to fan communal hatred in the Ghaziabad fake ‘hate crime’ case. In an article titled “Muslim Victim’s Family Challenges ‘No Communal Angle’ Claim by UP Police” published on June 16, 2021, The Wire tried to bring out the victim’s side of the story in a bid to give itself a clean chit for not doing due diligence before crying itself hoarse over ‘hate crime’.

On June 14, a video was shared by ‘fact-checking’ website Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair claiming that an elderly Muslim man was thrashed and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Soon, it was picked up by various influential people and media outlets who like to further the ‘Dara Hua Musalman’ narrative. However, Ghaziabad Police’s investigation has destroyed the conveniently crafted narrative.

Turns out, the elderly Muslim man Abdul Samad Saifi was an occult practitioner and used to make ‘tabeez’ (amulets) and some of his customers got unhappy after the ‘tabeez’ misfired. The said customers, then beat him. This was an internal freud propagated as ‘hate crime’. However, despite matters coming to fore, The Wire, has continued to hold on to its narrative even though it is on a flimsy ground. But The Wire tried to force fit the communal angle just because the victim was a Muslim. You can read it in detail here.

What is interesting here is that no one countered or called out The Wire for shoddy reportage because it was ideology and political inclination based – which in The Wire’s case is being anti-Modi and pro-Islamist and their apologists. And in matters of ideology one can give a long rope to someone because there are a lot more grey areas. However, in technology when things can be verified WAY too easily, The Wire gets called out by people from the same ‘liberal’ cabal.

But instead of saying sorry and admitting they goofed up and were taken for a ride, The Wire brazens it out. And it will do so tomorrow too when there’s another ideological issue they conjure up and most of those who are calling it out today will likely side with them, forgetting The Wire’s history of shoddy reporting. That is ‘liberal’ privilege.

Raghuram Rajan’s latest rant about how world can’t afford India becoming a manufacturing hub like China: Half-baked stats and political humbug

India is blessed with lots of Nobel laureates, economic experts and academic geniuses that mostly reside abroad and that too mostly in the Anglo-Saxon world. They drop by and visit us when the weather is good and give us gyan on how to solve poverty. Of course, these days everything is in the cloud so we get wisdom from the cloud too. Physical visits are not necessary especially since many of them find “this is not the India I grew up in”. That gravy train derailed in 2014.

Don’t expect them to do any serious introspection on why, despite being part of the establishment all these years, they did not turn India into another America with their expertise, so they could sit here and give gyan to Mozambique or Mongolia on poverty alleviation. And not have to lecture us from New York or Boston. Unless their case is that a highly developed, fully employed, healthy and prosperous advanced nation was handed over to Modi in 2014 and he ran it to ground. If you are a cynic, you can almost believe that Nobels, Bookers and Magsaysay’s are handed out not for what they have done but for how much damage they can do.

Raghuram Rajan is one of these experts. Go over his track record, you will find he was very much part of the establishment for years. He was our economic advisor from 2008, taking over as CEA from Kaushik Basu in 2012. Basu is yet another economic superstar who considers a day as wasted if he does not attack PM Modi in at least a dozen tweets. Such was the brilliant job Rajan did as CEA making us all rich that MMS promoted him as RBI Governor in 2013. He stayed on until Modi refused to give him a second term.

Since his return to academia, Rajan has been focused on telling us how wrong we were in electing Modi. That is if he is not too busy applying an intellectual coat of paint to fascist dynast Rahul Gandhi. Unfortunately, that paint needs a new coat every other month. As a wag puts it, he successfully predicted six of the last two recessions. Quite often he will be on TV channels, predicting gloom and doom. And our “fearless” journalists will interview him like some freshman kid interviewing a Nobel laureate professor with a reputation for a short temper, for the student’s magazine.

He can confidently talk to our “speaking truth to power” media because none of them will ask him about the increase in bad loans, loans given to connected cronies, coal blocks and other resources allocated to pals of the ruling elite without auctions and the loot of national resources that was the overarching theme of the UPA era. All under his watch as advisor and RBI governor, a vantage position from which he should have known exactly what was going on. No sir, he did not resign in disgust or do any “Award waapsi”. However, once Modi came to power, he started offering anti-establishment soundbites to durbari propaganda yellow journalists that morphed into “speaking truth to power journalists”

In May 2014, when UPA was already voted out and just days before leaving office RBI changed the gold import scheme, according to CAG resulting in windfall gains of Rs.4,500 cr to select businesses. When you hear lectures on “idea of India” remember incidents like this. Rajan justified this as a “reform”. Pity other “reforms” were not done in such great haste. Ever heard any “journalist” ask him about this?

Now RR has come out with yet another bizarre speech – this time he says “world cannot afford India to become another manufacturing powerhouse like China”. It should be obvious to anyone that he is trying to fire from the shoulders of the woke left climate fanatics that are now dominating the discourse in the US and Europe. It is an excuse even better than “dog ate the homework” and can explain anything as long as you stick to woke narratives.

As they are not accountable for their actions and control the media ecosystem – consequences don’t matter. Be it higher reliance on imported crude and gas as well as rising prices, supply squeezes and blackouts. So they can afford to come up with increasingly bizarre and illogical suggestions and try shove it down our throats.

To pander to this lobby, and hope to use them as force multipliers in his senseless attack on PLI, RR is now telling us that India should not become a manufacturing powerhouse and instead pursue “services”. That he seriously offers this solution to a nation of 1.4 billion people, not Singapore or even Malaysia, should be enough to dismiss it outright as a joke, but let us try to analyse this.

Imagine China is manufacturing $x worth of goods. Obviously, no one thinks if India becomes a “powerhouse” in manufacturing, they will also make $x so total output becomes $2x. That’s because the world’s consumption is not going to go up to $2x. Clearly, India will be taking some manufacturing away from China. So the climate impact will not be 2x.

Furthermore, every dollar of manufacturing that India takes over from China will be subjected to far greater and far more stringent environmental and green scrutiny than China ever faces or faced – and in a way, China effectively controls that outrage factory as it is mostly run by fringe leftists. Therefore, the world stands to gain and not lose by reducing Chinese manufacturing which is known to suffer from serious labour rights, intellectual property rights, human rights and environmental abuse both in China itself and in poor African and SEA countries where it extracts minerals and inputs.

It is foolish indeed to argue that the world will face a disaster if India becomes another manufacturing powerhouse. If indeed the world needs $2x the goods for both India and China to make, then it is the consumption and tech obsolescence we need to go after – not who makes it! After all, if there is demand, someone will do it. Is RR tweeting from a 2010 mobile? Wears Khadi?

But RR doesn’t allow himself to be distracted by facts and logic because he is essentially peddling an agenda. His statements become extremely logical and understandable once you ask yourself the right question – will it harm Modi/BJP and therefore benefit dynasts?

Moreover, everyone that has sense knows there are crores of Indians that need to move out of low-wage farms – to where? Call centres? Infosys? McKinsey? Sell insurance? – the answer is a substantial number of them will have to get into factories as we are way too much behind in that game. Yes, a certain number will go into services but that can’t be all. Countries like Bangladesh that our durbari economists like to praise (while attacking India for failing on the manufacturing front) have done that.

Even his earlier attacks on PLI have followed a set pattern – sweeping conclusions from dubious data. In an earlier article, he compares the price of the iPhone in India with the US and draws weird conclusions from that – that Modi is keeping phones expensive in India to benefit PLI. Now anyone that has shopped not just phones, but electronics over decades – from the times of Indira Gandhi to Modi, knows they are cheaper in Singapore or even the US. This has nothing to do with PLI. In fact, you can check iPhone prices in China – where it is made – they will be higher than in the USA! Obviously there are too many factors to count.

I have myself ordered electronics and IT gadgets from the USA to be shipped to Singapore – cheaper than local stores. The item would have travelled all the way from China or ASEAN to the USA and back, yet cheaper! Because the US has the scale, competitive markets and fantastic logistics and systems that reduce cost. India for these and other reasons has always been costly. No sir, they are not costly in India because Modi wants PLI.

Talking of phones, Indonesia has restricted any imported phone from being used in the country by locals, unless duty is paid and the IMEI is registered with customs. Duty exemptions are given for low-end ones but you still need to prove that and register. This is to promote local manufacturing. Imagine if Modi did that! There will be wall-to-wall vomiting. Lucky President Jokowi doesn’t face an army of pseudo-liberal frauds and charlatans posing as experts spinning fake narratives as Modi does.

And in a strangely ill-researched and hurriedly slapped-together piece of statistic, he quotes total imports and exports and tries to draw adverse conclusions on PLI from that! There are a million things that affect those numbers, that too in this COVID-ravaged world. He obviously does not bother drilling down a bit more to present credible arguments. Why this rush RR-ji, like your dimwit ward Rahul? 2024 is still far away, don’t shoot away all your bullets!

Of course, he quickly hedges his bets declaring we don’t have enough data. But then that doesn’t stop him from reaching predictable and politically convenient conclusions and presenting them innocently as “questions”. It is like me asking a question – Is RR attacking PLI because it harms China’s interests? Or not invented at 10JP? Of course, there are allegations buried in that question, so I am not going to ask them. Just highlighting a typical journalistic trick that sadly RR, from who we expect better, resorts to.

Yet another bizarre conclusion he draws is trying to blame PLI for higher component prices for our exporters. Does he even know or care to find out how much of our exporter’s cost goes to PLI products? 1%? 2%? 20%? Of course, he doesn’t. Or he would have cited them. He just throws allegations hoping something sticks. And knows the corrupt durbari media that never questioned him on his RBI track record in the UPA dacoity era and his numerous doomsday predictions since 2014 that have almost become a joke, will not question this too.

What RR fails to mention is as important as what he does. He mentions Vietnam but conveniently forgets that they too offer incentives to manufacturers, call it by whatever name. As it can be found from a simple Google search, I presume he has left that out intentionally. In fact, there is NO significant competing country that doesn’t offer incentives. If I were the CEO of some Korean or Japanese hi-tech MNC that announces a new plant, ministers from a dozen countries will happily kiss my backside to get me to invest in their country. Incentives of all sorts will be thrown at my feet. State and provincial level leaders will literally come to blows competing for my attention. It’s almost like a supermodel descending on Times Square asking “Who wants to go on a date with me?”

After all, the richest most powerful country on the planet, one that RR knows pretty well, is throwing billions at Samsung, Hyundai, TSMC, Toyota and others. It’s a direct assault on the third world, including India which is trying to ramp up its manufacturing. All cheered by the woke left crowd that enables dynastic loot, Hinduphobia and jihadi killings and attacks Modi day in and out. Will RR dare take on the wokes and mount such continuous and repeated attacks on Biden’s gifts to the industry in an NYT OpED? The US is rich yes, but that doesn’t mean it has no needs or wants. Of course not, he knows which side of his bread is buttered. Not that they will listen to him anyway.

RR also fails to mention that PLI goes far beyond chips and electronics. It does and should. His own home state, Tamilnadu, for which he is an advisor to the state government, will benefit from PLI for textile makers and auto components. In fact, they are already lining up. Hope he will not advise them to stop that.

One can go on citing any number of such arguments that makes his allegations sound, at best like sour grapes and at worse something far more sinister. After all billions are at stake along with millions of jobs. We can fine-tune it and polish our policies along the way but for God’s sake don’t try destroying it.

One sincerely hopes he will shed his blinkers and look at not just PLI but all other initiatives of Modi as an NRI that cares, a true unbiased academic of intellectual integrity and offer meaningful criticism and not present half-baked stats and politically loaded arguments to compete with palazzo serfs. We have other Aiyars to do that job.

Two UP migrant labourers killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian two days after a Kashmir Hindu was murdered, LeT terrorist Imran Bashir arrested

0

Continuing their spree of targeted killings in the valley, terrorists killed two labourers from Uttar Pradesh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday, October 17. The incident came two days after a Kashmiri Pandit named Pooran Krishan Bhat was shot dead by terrorists in the Shopian district of Kashmir.

The two migrant labourers identified as Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Kannauj in UP, were killed after the terrorists lobbed a grenade at them in the Harmen area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The victims were sleeping at the time of the attack. The injured labourers were rushed to the hospital where they succumbed to the injuries.

The Kashmir police took to Twitter on Tuesday to inform about the incident and that the LeT terrorist who had hurled the grenade at the two labourers has been arrested. Further interrogation and raids are continuing in the area, the police confirmed.

“#Terrorists lobbed hand grenade in Harmen #Shopian in which two labourers from UP namely Monish Kumar & Ram Sagar, both residents of Kanooj, UP got injured. They were shifted to hospital where they succumbed. Area cordoned off,” Tweeted Kashmir Zone Police on Tuesday.

In a subsequent tweet, the police stated that the terrorist who lobbed the grenade had been arrested. “Hybrid #terrorist of proscribed #terror outfit LeT Imran Bashir Ganie of Harmen #Shopian who lobbed grenade #arrested by Shopian police. Further #investigation and raids are going on,” the post read.

On October 15, a Kashmiri Pandit, identified as Puran Krishan Bhat, died after he was shot at from a very close range near his house in Chowdari Gund in this south Kashmir district. According to locals, he was living in Shopian and had never migrated.

After being shot, Pooran Krishan Bhat was rushed to the local hospital. The doctor examined him and declared brought dead.

In June this year, OpIndia reported how the killing of civilians by terrorists in the valley suddenly peaked in October last year. There have been many target killings of Hindus in the last few months, with the number certain to rise if we include other non-local Hindus and Muslim government officials who have also been targeted in the valley recently.

Bravado no more: Killers who gloated about the murder of Kanhaiya Lal, now cry in jail as the possibility of death sentence looms

Riyaz and Ghous Mohammad, the Islamists who had brutally beheaded a poor Hindu man Kanhaiya Lal and gloated about it, hailing themselves as warriors of Islam, are now languishing in jail. The duo, who had made a video gloating about their heinous act, basking in false bravado over killing a hapless poor man inside his shop are now facing the realities of the world.

As per a report in Bhaskar, Riyaz and Ghous Mohammad are confined inside a high-security prison in Rajasthan, along with 7 other accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case. The report says that no family members visit the two murderers and they are given biographies of great persons to read.

Report in Bhaskar

Jail superintendent Paris Jangid has told Bhaskar that the murderers are given books to read. Since Riyaz is illiterate, another inmate reads the books to him.

All the 9 accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case have been kept inside dark solitary cells. They are only allowed to come outside of their cells for 1 hour every day, for cleaning themselves and having breakfast.

Family members don’t visit them

The report further says that no family members have come to visit the 2 murderers so far, though all inmates are allowed to meet visitors on Sundays and Wednesdays. Only NIA officers come to interrogate them. The jail authorities have stated that while the other 7 accused have expressed regret for their actions, Riyaz and Ghous Mohammad haven’t spoken about remorse yet.

Riyaz and Ghous Mohammad were shifted to Ajmer’s High-Security prison on 16 September 2022 after over 96 hours of interrogation by the NIA. Riyaz had reportedly wept before NIA interrogators asking to meet his wife once and had asked why his family members are not coming to see him.

How media tries to ‘humanise’ hard-core criminals and terrorists

It is notable here that remorse, family poverty, and other tropes of familiarity are often used by media and activists to humanise hardcore criminals and even terrorists. Indian media, in particular, had done it quite often. Islamic terrorist Burhan Wani was the headmaster’s son, Hizbul commander Riyaz Naikoo was the ‘popular teacher’, Zakir Musa was the ‘lover of sports bikes who was slapped once by an Army man’ and so on.

Even Adil Ahmed Dar, the Pulwama bomber who was responsible for killing 40 CRPF personnel and had made a video about how he wanted to kill ‘cow urine drinkers’ in the name of Allah, was reported as someone who turned radical after being slapped by the Army when he was a boy.

The brutal murder of Kanhaiya Lal

Islamists Riyaz and Ghous Mohammad had come to Kanhaiya Lal’s tailor shop posing as customers. As the tailor was taking their measurements, they took out their heavy meat cleavers and brutally hacked him to death, while making a video of the incident. Kanhaiya Lal’s body had over 30 wounds. Kanhaiya Lal’s ‘fault’ was that a post supporting the statement of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma was shared from his phone.

After brutally murdering Kahaiya Lal, Riyaz and Ghous had made a chilling video, brandishing their blood-stained weapons and gloating about the heinous act. They had asserted the Islamist slogan “Gustakh-e-Nabi ki ek hi saza, Sar tan se juda” and had boasted that they had killed the man for the sake of Islam.

The brutal act of murder was supported and even hailed by some of the custodians (Chishtis) of Ajmer Dargah. Despite the brutality and wanton display of Islamic terrorism involved in the act, many media outlets had tried their best to tone it down, and had even shared reports of the news as ‘just another crime’.

Lord Mountbatten accused of sexually abusing man 45 years ago, FBI files say he had lust for young boys, case filed by victim: All you need to know

The last Viceroy of India, late Lord Louis Mountbatten, has been accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy on two occasions in the 1970s at a boy’s home in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

The victim, identified as Arthur Smyth, has alleged that the incident took place at the Kincora Boy’s Home in 1977. According to Smyth, it was only 2 years later in 1979 that he finally learnt about the identity of his perpetrator.

Lord Louis Mountbatten was a member of the British royal family and the uncle of the incumbent King Charles III. Smyth, now 56, lives in Australia and has filed a lawsuit against State bodies including the police for failing to protect the children in Kincora.

Kevin Winters of KRW Law-LLP, who will represent the victim in court, said, “I commend Arthur’s resilience in taking this case and indeed his bravery in going public for the first time. Understandably many abuse survivors for reasons of obvious sensitivity choose to remain anonymous.”

“Arthur’s decision to reveal his identity must be set against this backdrop. It is borne out of anger at systemic State cover-up on abuse at these institutions…That decision hasn’t been taken lightly,” he pointed out.

Winters added, “He understands only too well that it will be a deeply unpopular case with many people coming as it does within weeks of the passing of The Queen. However, litigation involving mental, physical and sex abuse isn’t undertaken to deliberately offend sensitivities.”

“It’s taken for many reasons including exposing perpetrators and the institutions or other agencies which helped suppress the truth…It has been an incredibly difficult journey for our client to reach this point in his life wherehe feels confident enough to make his case and to do so in a public forum,” he concluded.

In September this year, pre-action letters were issued to several institutions including Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Business Services Organisation, UK Secretary of State, the Chief Constable of PSNI and The Department of Health in connection to the case.

Lord Mountbatten had lust for young boys: FBI

In August 2019, The Daily Mirror cited declassified Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files and reported that the former Viceroy of India was a ‘homosexual with a perversion for young boys.’

The alleged files were unearthed by historian Andrew Lownie who used Freedom of Information laws to obtain research material for his book ‘The Mountbattens: Their Lives & Loves.’

The Daily Mirror quoted Lord Mountbatten as saying, “(We) spent all our married lives getting into other people’s beds.” According to Lownie’s book, Lord Mountbatten’s favourite place was a gay brothel frequented by naval officers.

Lord Mountbatten, who was assassinated in 1979 by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), was also spied on by the US for over 3 decades.

Citing one Anthony Daly, he claimed, “Mountbatten had something of a fetish for uniforms — handsome young men in military uniforms and beautiful boys in school uniform”.

In an interview in 1944, American author Elizabeth de la Poer Beresford said, “…Lord Louis Mountbatten and his wife are considered persons of extremely low morals.”

“…Lord Louis Mountbatten was known to be a homosexual with a perversion for young boys…He is an unfit man to direct any sort of military operations because of this condition…His wife was considered equally erratic,” the FBI memo quoted her as saying.

In yet another federal document, dating back to May 1968, the homosexuality of Lord Louis Mountbatten was discussed alongside that of one diplomat Anthony Nutting and former British PM Anthony Eden.

In recent times, historian Andrew Lownie had also tried to unearth the personal letters exchanged between India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten, albeit unsuccessfully.

The infamous Boys’ Home in Belfast

In 2017, an investigation conducted by the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry found as many as 39 boys were sexually abused at the Kincora Boy’s Home by its housemaster, William McGrath.

The probe was conducted by retired Judge Anthony Hart, who concluded that the police (Royal Ulster Constabulary) investigation into the scandal was “inept, inadequate and far from thorough”. He added that many victims could have been spared if there was a proper investigation

Reportedly, three former staff at the Boy’s home, namely, McGrath, Raymond Semple and Joseph Mains, were incarcerated in 1981 for sexually abusing a total of 11 boys. The home was being run by a Protestant paramilitary organisation member.

However, the Judge had dismissed claims that a homosexual brothel was being operated at the Kincora Boy’s Home and that British security agencies were somehow blackmailing the accused paedophiles to spy on influential politicians.

“Our inquiry has not found any credible evidence to show that there was any basis for the allegations that have been made over the years about the involvement of others in sexual abuse of residents at Kincora or anything to show that the security agencies were complicit in any form of sexual abuse in Kincora for any purpose,” he concluded.

Bombay HC refuses bail to Jyoti Jagtap, says Elgar Parishad event was a conspiracy to further agenda of banned CPI (Maoist): What court said

0

On Monday, the Bombay High Court observed that the Elgar Parishad event which was organized in December 2017 was a smaller conspiracy within the larger agenda of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). The Court also refused to grant bail to one of the accused named Jyoti Jagtap in the Bhima Koregaon violence case.

According to reports, Justices AS Gadkari and Milind Jadhav considered the evidence submitted in the court and stated that accused Jagtap was in active touch with all other co-accused in the 2018 case to further CPI (Maoist) agenda. “It is seen that the appellant was in active touch with all other co-accused working for different mask organizations to further the objectives of CPI(M). The Elgar Parishad event is thus a smaller conspiracy within the larger design and conspiracy of CPI(M) to further its agenda”, the order read.

The National Investigation Agency charged the accused two years after the incident happened. Jagtap, who is suspected to be a member of the banned group named Kabir Kala Manch (KKM), has been charged with violating the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

She filed an appeal with the High Court against a ruling of the Special NIA Court which had refused her bail plea, which the High Court upheld today. According to the Court, the CPI(Maoist) had made a thorough strategy to destabilize the democratically elected government, and Jagtap and his co-accused were part of it.

The Court further stated that the stage plays performed by KKM members and activists at the Elgar Parishad event were hostile, extremely provocative, and intended to instigate hatred and stoke passion. “KKM admittedly performed and incited hatred and passion by performing on the above agenda in the Elgar Parishad event. There is thus definitely a larger conspiracy within the Elgar Parishad conspiracy by KKM and CPI(Maoist)” the Bench added.

The Bench further alluded to some papers reportedly recovered from Jagtap, as per NIA’s submission, which underlined the involvement of the CPI (Maoist) in seeking to destabilize the country by executing systematic killings and engaging in armed combat. They determined from the statements presented to the Court that Jagtap was an active member of the Naxalite movement. The Court also observed that the evidence proved her active engagement in organizing the Elgar Parishad event from the beginning since she kept track of all money and expenses.

The Court further reiterated that there are reasonable grounds to believe that allegations put up by NIA against Jagtap as prima facie genuine. It did not find any error in the Special Court’s order and dismissed the appeal.

Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon Case

The Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case pertains to an event organized at Shaniwar Wada called Elgar Parishad on December 31, 2017. The following day, i.e January 1, 2018, large-scale violence broke out at Bhima Koregaon, where lakhs of Dalits had gathered to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, won by the British Army—comprising mostly soldiers from the Dalit community—against the Peshwas in 1818.

An FIR was filed in connection with the violence on January 8 after which Pune Police kickstarted a probe into it. The Pune police continued the probe into the matter for 2 years after which the investigation was transferred to the National Investigation Agency in January this year. The agency said that incriminating documents and letters were found on the devices of some of the accused, tying their links to the banned CPI(M) group.

Kantara, not a myth, but a legend: Why ‘liberals’ are bound to be upset with this movie and director-actor Rishab Shetty

It’s been a great year for the South Indian film industry, as many of them, including KGF2, RRR, Vikram, Bheeshma Parvam, Karthikeya-2, Charlie 777, and Vikrant Rona, took the nation by storm at the box office thanks to their original narrative styles, breath-taking visuals, and larger-than-life characters. The South Indian films provided a breath of fresh air to the nation’s moviegoers with their honest approach towards upholding the dharma and giving the regional cultural touch without mocking one’s belief. This contrasts with the Bollywood movies, which struggle at the Box Office even to recover the money invested, with the exception of The Kashmir Files and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

The Kannada film Kantara, which translates to “Mysterious Forest,” was written, directed, and starred by Rishab Shetty. It was made by Hombale Films (KGF Franchise). The film’s production values, performances, and breathtaking Western Ghats scenery in Karnataka keep you hooked to your seat for 2.5 hours. The film highlights the diverse customs and cultures that exist in coastal Karnataka, like Bhoota Kola (Spirit/Deity Worship) and Kambala (Buffalo Racing on Slushy Paddy Fields). Keradi, Rishab’s hometown, served as the film’s location.

The story begins with a backdrop from the 19th century about a king who promised to give a tribal people a piece of land in exchange for their diety Panjurli (Wild Boar Spirit), which he believed to have brought him peace and happiness. In addition to the diety Panjurli, Shivagana also has a Karnika (influence) known as diety Guliga, which is worshipped in the shape of a sacred stone.

Both deities are worshipped together here. In contrast to Panjurli, who is revered as the God of Prosperity and Guidance, Guliga is a Kshetrapala/Kshetrapalaka (Lit. Protector of the place/field) is ferocious, violent, and unforgiving. The main plot of the film is, driven by the greed of the King’s successors to reclaim the land granted to the tribal people and the Forest Department’s efforts to protect the wildlife and trees in the forest from hunting and deforestation by tribals, respectively.

While the focus of the film is primarily on Achyut Kumar’s portrayal of the King’s descendant and the landlord, Devendra Suttooru and Shiva (Rishab Shetty’s) rebellious nature and sycophancy toward the landlord, it is important to note Shiva’s gang, which includes Bulla, Raampa, Sundara, Naaru, and Lacchu characters, and their comic timing even in serious circumstances. A handful of Shiva and his gang’s scenes would make you jolt out of your seat in fear and make you giggle immediately. Raampa (Prakash Thuminad), a bachelor in his late 40s, deserves special mention because he consistently “scores” when given the chance. Shiva’s love interest Leela (Sapthami Gowda), who plays the newly hired forest officer, gave everything she had to whatever was required by her part. Leela’s difficulties with her obligations to the villagers and her sense of duty could have been thoroughly explored.

Devendra is an extremely well-written character who just might easily trick you with his butter talk, smile, compassion, and kindness. But when the time comes, he might be greedy, heartless and discriminator. In yet another great performance, Kishore—who portrays a hot-headed (and bald) DRF officer Muralidhar who occasionally displays his grey shades —makes the audience want to dislike him all the time but end up falling in love with him. Ajaneesh B Lokanath (music) and Arvind Kashyap (DoP), two more superstars in the movie, together would create the first half’s scenes relaxing to the ears and the eyes, especially with the song Singara Siriye sung by Vijay Prakash.

Rishab Shetty’s unforgettable final Guliga and Panjurli act can make anyone mesmerised with its impeccable choreography by Raj B Shetty and can guarantee goosebumps. Rishab, Raj, Ajaneesh, and Arvind’s collective efforts are what put the audience in a trance for the final 20 minutes.

It is expected that liberals will try to discredit this film because it has the essence of Hinduism and its traditions. Recently, Rishab Shetty and the Kannada anchor engaged in a rapid-fire round during one of the interviews after the film’s phenomenal success in the South, during which he was asked to describe the names she would choose in a word or two. The actor responded “Adhbuta Nayaka” (Great Leader) when asked about Narendra Modi, and “No Comments” when asked about Rahul Gandhi. His room temperature IQ supporters were appropriately outraged by the “No Comments” and attempted to trend “Boycott Kantara” on Twitter even though the movie is already raking in a tonne of money at the box office. He also identified himself as an ardent follower of his Dharma and a proud Hindu.

Kantara is designed to be watched in a theatre to truly appreciate the spirituality and cinematic feel. This film offers some lesser-known Hindu Dharma Paddathis for non-Kannadigas, such as Bhootaradhane, Daivaradhane, Nema, etc. These should not be missed. Since this movie is bringing families to the movies in Karnataka for a long time, it would not be unfair to ask the state’s chief minister, Shri Basavaraj Bommai, to declare it tax-free.

The Wire vs Meta: ‘Independent expert’ says they never sent the mail The Wire claims to have received and published as evidence

The Wire vs Meta saga has now reached bizarreness of epic proportions because now even their ‘independent experts’ who had ‘verified’ the evidence produced by The Wire have turned hostile and said they never sent the emails The Wire published as proofs to prove their entire story was not based on fabrication. The Wire had produced emails of two ‘independent experts’ who had allegedly ‘verified’ the DKIM signature.

Of these two ‘independent experts’, The Wire claimed one was Ujjwal Kumar, who is currently employed at Microsoft Asia and based out of Singapore. Facebook uses Microsoft email services and if Ujjwal Kumar indeed verified these emails for The Wire, it likely breached the client confidentiality by abusing his privilege. OpIndia has reached out to Microsoft Asia for their comment on the same, but have not heard back from them yet. We have sent a follow up email, and will update the article when we hear from them.

However, soon after the story was published and The Wire’s Founding Editor Siddharth Varadarajan boasted how a Microsoft employee, Ujjwal Kumar, too, had ‘verified’ their proofs, they claimed that Kumar no longer wants his name being made publicly available. Now, like a new twist in the tale, tech expert Pranesh Prakash has said that he reached out to both the ‘independent experts’ The Wire claimed to have consulted and both of them have denied having verified DKIM for The Wire.

And after Ujjwal Kumar of Microsoft got his name removed from The Wire’s so-called exposé, it appears the second independent researcher The Wire claimed to have consulted, has now said that they did not write the email The Wire showed as proof for their fantastical story through which they tried to show a Meta-BJP nexus. Pranesh tweeted that he has just received confirmation from the 2nd independent expert, whose identity Varadarajan shared with him in private, never sent the email The Wire published. He also said that he never took the DKIM verification for The Wire.

This punches multiple holes in the Meta vs The Wire saga which most people had not believed from the word go. Things appeared much more dubious after The Wire revealed that one of their ‘sources’ in Meta whom they likely relied on for ‘leaked documents’ had a personal relationship with one of their reporters.

Further, it was The Wire that raised the bogey that BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya was the all-powerful individual with super privileges to get any and every random post on social media platforms removed. The Wire had claimed that Malviya had super privileges and was part of an elite list of users at Meta and hence he personally got 7 posts of an obscure private account on Instagram with under 500 followers at that time, removed. All this insanity was triggered because a non-entity on Instagram running a troll account had his posts removed by algorithm. However, The Wire claimed it was not AI but Malviya behind it and provided ‘evidences’ which Meta has said were fabricated.

To prove those ‘evidences’ were not fabricated, The Wire roped in ‘independent experts’, one of whom no longer wants to be associated with the story and got his references removed while other just said they never sent any mails The Wire gave as evidence.

If an OTT series is not made on this absurdity to show how The Wire got taken for a ride, our team here would be really disappointed.
