Haryana: After BKU leader gives call for violence, a frenzied mob of farmer protestors gherao the residence of CM Manohar Lal Khattar

Two days after Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni threatened to hold Haryana MPs and MLAs hostage, thousands of farmer protestors gheraoed the residence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Karnal on Saturday (October 2).

As per reports, the protestors tried to break through the barricades and enter the residence of the Haryana CM. In order to pacify the situation, the police had to resort to using water cannons against the incoming mob. The farmer protestors began gathering outside the house of Manohar Lal Khattar after the Centre postponed paddy procurement until October 11 this year. The farmers had earlier demanded that the procurement process begin from October 1 onwards. As a result, clashes broke out between the protestors and law enforcement authorities at several places in the State.

Reportedly, the demonstrators also tried to enter the houses of other MLAs. While speaking about the incident, a senior police officer remarked, “Peaceful protest is the right of people but if they indulge in any sort of violence or block the highways or main roads, legal action shall be taken. We are closely monitoring the situation.” In a video shared by news agency ANI, a large group of farmer protestors was seen trying to breach the security protocol outside the CM’s house in Karnal.

Reportedly, the farmer protestors have erected tents outside the residence of the Haryana CM in Karnal. As such, paramilitary forces have been deployed and all roads leading to his house have been blocked. Similar tents were erected by the protestors outside the houses of MP Sunita Duggal and Subhash Sudha. BKU leader Jagdeep Singh Aulakh threatened, “Around 5,000-6,000 farmers will reach Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s residence in Karnal since he too represents the Karnal assembly constituency. Similar protests will be held across all constituencies of Haryana.”

Amidst the violent protests, Manohar Lal Khattar and State Agriculture Minister JP Dalal left for the National Capital to resolve the ongoing crisis in the State. The Haryana CM had assured, “Farmers will not have to face any problem in the paddy procurement.”

‘Will not even let dogs come out’: Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni threatens violence

On Thursday (September 30), a prominent Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni threatened to hold Haryana MPs and MLAs hostage if the ruling BJP government in the State failed to procure paddy from the farmers by October 1.

“We want to warn the Haryana government, CM Manohar Lal Khattar to start purchasing paddy from (farmers) by tomorrow (October 1). Don’t boil our blood and test our patience. If you don’t start procurement, we will gherao the residences of your MLAs, MPs, and leaders,” Chaduni remarked while speaking to Aaj Tak.

He furthered cautioned, “We will put them under house arrest such that even their dog cannot step out. Dear farmers, wait until tomorrow for the government notification. If it doesn’t come, then gherao their houses. Park your tractors and loaded trollies in front of their residences, irrespective of whether they belong to the BJP or JJP.

Gurnam Singh Chaduni also said, “Even their dogs should not be allowed to come out of the houses. Make their condition like this if government notification does not come by tomorrow. We want to warn the government again that we will not sit idle. We cannot withstand the plight of a helpless farmer. If the government does not comply, the consequences will be severe and drastic.”

Anti-India campaign on Twitter promoted by journalists, media houses and influencers linked to Muslim Brotherhood, says report by DisinfoLab

DisinfoLab has come up with a report giving details of how Muslim Brotherhood has launched a campaign against India targeting India’s economic interests. According to the report titled Muslim BrotherHood Arrives In India, the #BoycottIndianProducts hashtag that was being shared on Twitter in the last few days, was part of this campaign against India.

The #BoycottIndianProducts campaign on social media was started after the eviction drive against encroachers in Assam recently, which had turned violent after some encroachers had attacked the police. Holding the govt responsible for the incident, people mostly from Pakistan and middle eastern countries including Turkey, Egypt and Iraq had launched the campaign to boycott products made in India.

According to DisinfoLab, ‘news articles’ were also published that promoted this anti-India trend by several media houses connected to Muslim Brotherhood, including Al-Jazeera. Most of the users used the Arabic hashtag #مقاطعة_المنتجات_الهندية , but some also used the English version #BoycottIndianProducts. There was another tag saying #IndiaIsKillingMuslims, and an unusually large number of people from the Islamic countries had posted the tags, which creates the doubt that it was planned by someone.

According to DisinfoLab, the Assam incident was just an excuse to run the campaign, as the conspirators were already ready with the plan, waiting for a trigger. Both anonymous Twitter account and verified handles of well-known people from Islamic countries had posted the hashtags calling for boycott of Indian products.

Even though the campaign was targeting India, the report states it also targeted Saudi Arabia and UAE, two middle eastern countries with close ties with India.

The report by DisinfoLab states that most of the prominent handles promoting this campaign were related to the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwān al-Muslimūn). Some of the Muslim Brotherhood ‘influencers’ who led this psy-war against India include:

Mohamed Al Sagheer, Member of Board of Trustees of International Union of Muslim Scholars, an organization of Muslim Islamic theologians and known as the “supreme authority of the Muslim Brotherhood.” Earlier he had appeared on Al Jazeera calling for the boycott of French products.

Sami Kamal El Din, Egyptian Journalist based in Istanbul, who has been listed as a terrorist twice by the Egyptian govt, and an expert in propaganda. He had impersonated an Egyptian intelligence official to call several Egyptian celebrities asking them to support the US move to US mission in Israel to Jerusalem, the video of which was ‘leaked’ and the story was published in New York Times. His YouTune channel was deleted on request of Egypt for spreading fake news.

Ahmad Muaffaq Zeidan, journalist who mainly covers Taliban and Al Qaeda. He has put on watch list by National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States for suspected links with Al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood.

Yasser Abu Hilalah, former Managing Director of Al Jazeera Arabic News, who is known to have ties with the officials of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and even shared platforms with them. Disinfolab says that Hilalah amplified the campaign targeting India and had retweeted several media articles which had highlighted the campaign.

Omar Abdulaziz, activist who is sympathizer of several terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, especially Daesh (ISIS).

The campaign run by the Islamists were covered by several media houses, mostly in Arabic, and Dsinfolab says that the line between ‘report’ and ‘promotion’ was blurred in those reports. These reports presented the boycott campaign as a genuine reaction to ‘atrocities to Muslims in India’, not giving real details of the Assam incident, and not disclosing the nature of people behind the campaign. The media reports didn’t mention that most people posting the hashtags were from Egypt, Turkey and Qatar and several of them were linked with Muslim Brotherhood, and several videos and images posted by them were from unrelated incidents, which are already debunked by fact-checkers in India.

The most prominent media house that published reports on the campaign, almost promoting them, was Al Jazeera. All the major portals of the media house promoted the campaign by tweeting from its various handles like Al Jazeera Global, Arabic, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt etc.

It is notable that the United States has already put many of Al Jazeera journalists in terrorism watch list. Ahmad Muaffaq Zaidan, the Islamabad bureau chief for Al Jazeera, was listed as a member of al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood by the NSA.

Other media houses that promoted the anti-India campaign included the Turkish state-owned news channel TRT World. In fact, TRT World had launched a promotion of the news article through TRT Arabia, which ran a Facebook Ad. This media house has a history of running anti-India fake news.

Some other media houses which actively pushed the campaign included Rassd News Network (RNN) from Egypt, Arabi21 from Egypt funded by Qatar, Al-Araby News from UK funded by Qatar, US-based Arab-American newspaper Watan Serb etc.

In the campaign against India, the social media users had used several fake news. They had shared images and videos from old, unrelated incidents claiming those depicted attacks on Muslims by majority Hindus. And while reporting the campaign, the middle east based media houses had failed to mention that the campaigners were using fake news in the propaganda.

Not just users from middle eastern countries, users from Pakistan were also not behind in spreading fake news in the campaign. They were at the forefront in sharing a video of a Muslim family attacked by Muslims in India to claim that the Muslim family was beaten by Hindus.

The DisinfoLab report further analyses how the boycott Indian product campaign was pushed by various Twitter handles, and how they helped increase the reach of the same. The report says that such campaigns will increase in the future due to the focus on the topic. It also states that Twitter has repeatedly failed to apply even most basic filtering and monitoring to combat fake news and info-war.

It should be a wake-up call for the govt of India as well as for Indian social media users, the report concludes.

‘Bapu boo hoo’: SP leader’s extravagant tear fest brings back memories of Congress leader doing the same, old video surfaces

2021 marks the 152nd birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Today, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a video has gone viral, where Samajwadi Party leader Ghalib Khan is seen clinging on to Bapus’ bust and crying his heart out. Along with this, two other old videos of Congress’ Haseeb Ahmed and SP leader Firoz Khan pulling off a similar stunt have also resurfaced on the microblogging site.

“Bapu….Bapu…” wailed the SP party leader as his sidekick in a white kurta consoled him. Even though Ghalib Khan’s tears are not apparent to ordinary eyes, he kept wiping them away as he remembered Bapu.

While this snippet was enough to keep netizens entertained for the day, another old video resurfaced, where Congress ‘poster man’ Haseeb Ahmed was seen indulging in a similar farce. Talking to a picture of Mahatma Gandhi, Ahmed was seen directing Bapu to either come back or call them to him.

In the old video, which has resurfaced today, the dejected Congress leader is seen crying as he delivers an emotional monologue while his ’emotionless’ assistant holds on to Bapu’s portrait. Three other supporters stand behind the emotional Congress leader looking quite clueless. One of them, in fact, is also seen grinning for the camera.

Haseeb Ahmed started his ‘man to man discussion’ with Bapu by lamenting that the propagandists who continue to peddle misinformation are remembering Bapu today. Gandhiji was not only assassinated once but several times in the past, rued the Congress leader as he burst into tears in front of the portrait.

Weeping profusely, he told Bapu to come back. “Bapu aap aajaiye. Is desh ko aapki zarurat dobara padh rahi hain. Is desh ki janta aapko dobara dekhna chahti hain. Ya toh hum logon ko aap apne paas bula lijiye, ya is desh main jo jhoot, makkari aur fareb karke logon ko lutne ka kaam kar rahe hain unse hum logo ko mukti dila dijiye,” (The people of this country are eager to see you once again. Either you call us to you, or get us rid of the people who are robbing the people of this country through deception) lamented the Congress leader.

As expected, Netizens were quick to come up with their witty one-liners and memes. One remarked that today even Bapu must be crying seeing the Congress leader’s exemplary performance.

Another Twitter user noticed how one of his assistants was spoiling the entire act by standing behind Haseeb Ahmed and grinning.

And where there is drama, Rahul Gandhi definitely gets a mention!

These snippets are redux of the year 2019 when another Samajwadi party leader Firoz Khan had cried inconsolably on Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary. In the video which has resurfaced today, the SP leader cried his heart out in Bapu’s memory.

At one point, taking a break from weeping, he even looked up to the statue and ‘talked’ to Bapu. “Desh ko anath karake, humein chhod gaye. Anath banake chale gaye aap. Itna bada desh humein azaad kara diya. Lekin humari tamanna jo thi sab khatam hoti jaa rahi hai, sab bekar hote jaa raha hai. Bapu aap kahan chale gaye? Itni badi uplabdhi de ke kahan chale gaye? Itna bada desh humein azaad kar ke, humare bachho ke liye… Aap kahan chale gaye? (You orphaned the country… Why did you leave us? You gave us independence and then orphaned us? Why did you leave us?),” he says even as his sidekick continues to wail.

Rajnath Singh unveils Lakshadweep’s first Gandhi statue, was earlier opposed by local Muslim majority population: Details

Rajnath Singh has unveiled the first Mahatma Gandhi statue in Lakshadweep on the occasion of the latter’s 152nd birth anniversary.

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had informed that he is travelling to the Lakshadweep Islands to unveil the first ever statue of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in the Union Territory.

A three-day festival was organised on the Islands as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The festival culminated on Saturday with the installation of Gandhi’s statue.

As per a report published in Indian Express, the figurine installed in Kavaratti Island is a six-foot tall bronze statue of Gandhi.

This will be the first statue of Gandhi on the archipelago that is tucked away in the Arabian Sea. The India’s Muslim majority islands have no statue till now.

Local Muslims objected to MK Gandhi statues, cites Sharia law

About 11 years ago, an attempt was made by the Congress-led UPA regime to install a bust of Gandhi on the islands. A Rs 2 lakh statue of MK Gandhi was sent to Lakshadweep in the vessel MV Amindivi to be installed at Kavaratti in September 2010.

However, the bust of MK Gandhi could not be offloaded at Lakshadweep as Muslims, who account for over 98 per cent of the total population of the union territory, objected to the installation of any such statues. Though authorities cited “bad weather”, in reality, the installation of the statue of Gandhi was opposed by the local Muslims saying installation of such idols and statues would hurt sentiments of the community.

According to reports from Kerala-based media outlets, the local Muslims believe that if such a statute is once installed, then they will have to pay respects to it by decorating it with flowers, which according to them, is a part of Hindutva and violates the Sharia law. Hence, the Muslims in Lakshadweep vehemently opposed the installation of the Gandhi statue in Kavaratti.

Eleven years since then, MK Gandhi’s bust has faced a harrowing time as it has shuttled several times from Kochi to Kavaratti.

Protests erupts over reforms in Lakshadweep

Earlier this year, the clamour for the installation of Gandhi’s statue in the Lakshadweep Islands grew after after the Muslim majority population of the archipelago staunchly opposed the reforms announced by administrator Praful K Patel.

Patel had floated a number of proposals aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, along with promoting the islands as a tourist destination on par with the Maldives.

The draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation (LDAR) 2021 proposed a new law to ban cow slaughter and beef, which is in line with the prevailing law in an overwhelming number of states in India. The draft also included a two-child policy to educate people about the importance of family planning. In order to deter people from having more than 2 children, the law proposed preventing such people from becoming a member of the gram panchayat.

Another provision in the draft authorised the sale of alcoholic beverages on the islands, strictly to the resort owners, in a bid to boost tourism in the archipelago. Currently, prohibition is in place on all inhabited islands, with liquor served only at resorts on the uninhabited Bangaram island. The new regulation is aimed at attracting more tourists by allowing liquor sale in resorts on the inhabited islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago.

But, these reforms did not sit well with the Island’s majority population, who vigorously opposed the reforms and expressed their disapproval over them.

More than Rs 70 crores over 10 years: Read the financial details of Harvest India whose FCRA license was suspended by MHA

The FCRA license of ‘Harvest India’ was suspended by the Union Home Ministry recently for violating laws related to foreign-funding. There are serious allegations against the NGO and its chief functionary Suresh Kumar, including conversion activities and misusing benefits meant for SC/ST communities.

Thus, given the antecedents of the NGO, we decided to look into the background of ‘Harvest India’, based on information publicly available on the internet. We accessed their financial submissions to the Ministry of Home Affairs since 2011, which revealed that they have been receiving crores and crores of rupees every year.

Harvest India: Foreign contributions through the years

Its profile on Darpan lists Suresh Kumar Kathera as its president, Eswararao Yanamala as the secretary and Kamalakara Babu Chebrolu as the treasurer. Gideon Perika, Swaroop Raj Thella, Sudhakararao Chegudi and Balaswamy Madasu are listed as executive members.

The UK website of the NGO says that it has a US-based and UK-based Board of Director and members and staff committed to “carrying Christ’s compassion to every village in India.” The website also says that Suresh Kumar and his wife Christina have 14 foster children. Suresh is said to be the son of the founder of the NGO, Lalithamma Kumar, who passed on the leadership to him.

Gideon is tasked with running the day to day operations of the group. The “main point of contact” between the US-based staff and staff based in India is a person named Hanuman Rao. One Daniel Sudhaker serves as the ‘Director of Bible Colleges’ and looks after nearly 30 children at one of their shelter homes. Another Pandu Babu with his wife Susana look after over 300 children. The website also says that the NGO takes care of 1300 children across 26 shelter homes.

According to the NGO, it conducts 3-4 “Good News Outreach” programmes every year that reaches over 30,000 people. The ‘Good News Outreach’ mentioned here is a euphemism for Christian evangelism and the good news is the story of Jesus Christ. The website also states, “Harvest India sends out its ministers and Bible college graduates to host smaller, strategic Good News Outreach meetings in rural villages.”

Earlier, it was reported that there were over 1500 to 2000 pastors working for the group. Moreover, it has 1500 ‘community centres’ across the country for conversion purposes. Reportedly, ‘Crusade’ events are also organised to induct new members to Christianity and train them as preachers.

Bangladesh: Hindu man arrested and family put under house arrest over alleged ‘blasphemous’ message, Hindu groups launch protest

On September 16, a Hindu man in Bangladesh was arrested for allegedly posting objectionable content against Islam on Facebook. The incident took place in the Bhola district of Bangladesh.

As per reports, the man has been identified as Gouranga Chandra Dey. The controversy began after a screenshot of a Messenger conversation between Gouranga and another man named Jayaram went viral on Facebook on September 15. The screenshot allegedly contained derogatory remarks against Islam. As a pre-emptive measure, Gouranga went to the police and lodged a complaint. However, he was arrested the following day on September 16 under Section 54 (arrest without warrant under reasonable suspicion) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Gouranga is the President of the Bhola District Puja Udjapan Parishad president and a politically active man. His family has been placed under house arrest for over 2 weeks now ever since he has been arrested. A team of police have been deployed in the area to prevent any law and order situation. The Hindu community has demanded the immediate release of Gouranga and has alleged that he was being framed in a false case.

Family forced to stay indoors, shop shut down

During the preliminary investigation, it was found that the account that was used to post objectionable content was created a few days prior to the incident. It has remained inactive ever since September 15. The victim’s wife Rina Rani Dey denied any wrongdoing by Gouranga and informed that she has not been able to step out of the house. This is despite the fact that her daughter is extremely sick. Meanwhile, the two shops that are owned by Gouranga have remained closed for over two weeks now.

Rajkumar Dey, the younger brother of the victim, narrated how they have been living under fear in Bangladesh. Rajkumar, who helps run the shops owned by Gouranga, said, “I am terrified. None of us can even think of going out. We do not have the courage to open our shop”. A Hindu woman from Bhola district said that the alleged case of blasphemy has prompted attacks and Vandalism on Hindus, ahead of Durga Puja. A sevadar at the local temple expressed fear over the majority Muslim community holding marches and protests. “We are a minority”, he lamented.

Islamist organisations issue warnings, demand exemplary punishment for Gouranga

Radical Islamist organisations such as Bhola District Muslim Unity Council have demanded ‘exemplary punishment’ for Gouranga Chandra Dey for allegedly insulting their religion. The situation in Bhola has become tense after they launched marches and rallies to avenge the ‘insult’.

According to Secretary Mobashbirul Haque Naeem, this is the third case of ‘blasphemy ‘ in the past 2 years. “Anything said against our religion will not be tolerated. They will protest against such acts…They are demanding action under the law.” The sensitivity of the case has put pressure on the law enforcement authorities to expedite the probe. However, the Superintendent of Police (Bhola) Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser regretted that the investigation would take time due to technical limitations in the case.

Hindu groups take out protest, demand immediate release of Gouranga

On the other hand, Hindu groups have called on the government to take immediate steps to stop attacks on Hindus ahead of the Durga Puja. They also protested against the arrest of Gouranga Chandra Dey and demanded his immediate release.

Protest rally against the arrest

On Monday (September 27), the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad took out a rally to demand the release of Gouranga Chandra Dey. According to Kazal Debnath, a leader of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, several Hindu idols have been vandalised in different districts in the country ahead of Durga Puja. He has urged the government to take action, failing which mass protests will be organised. The protest rally began at National Museum in Shahbagh and ended near Teacher Student Centre (Dhaka University).

Nirmal Chatterjee, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, stated that Goranga Chandra Dey was fabricated in a false case after his Facebook account was hacked by unknown miscreants. President Milon Kanti Dey said that the Hindu community in the Bhola district will not celebrate Durga Puja this year if Gouranga is not released. Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Sri Sri Durga Mata Mandir, Nepal Chandra Dey, claimed that Gouranga was being framed under a conspiracy for his active participation in electoral politics.

Madras HC judge gets late to work due to political event and barricades on the road, says it amounts to ‘contempt of court’

0

Justice N Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court told the Tamil Nadu government that High Court judges should be treated at par with ministers and similar protocols must be followed for Judges.

Justice Venkatesh said this during the hearing on Friday after his vehicle was stopped at Adyar locality on Friday following a programme commemorating the 94th birth anniversary of film actor Sivaji Ganesan.

Justice Venkatesh was on his way to attend court when the incident took place. He remained stranded in his vehicle for around 25 minutes before he could reach the court quite late. Since Chief Minister MK Stalin, ministers and people from the film industry had assembled to pay tribute; police had barricaded the road near the Sivaji Ganesan Manimandapam and diverted the traffic.

As he reached the court, the Justice who was already annoyed ordered the Home Secretary SK Prabakar to appear before the court. SK Prabakar appeared before the court through video conferencing. While the Justice reprimanded the police he asked the home secretary whether the police would extend the same treatment to VIPs as he faced.

He said that HC judges should be treated at par with ministers adding that judges are entitled to certain protocols being followed.

He warned that the police halting his vehicle amounted to ‘contempt of court’ since it was an act of restraining him from discharging his duties. He said he was prevented despite his personal assistant informing the police authorities that the HC Justice is travelling in the car.

However, the court did not want to initiate contempt proceedings but asked the state home secretary to ensure that such incidents do not take place in future.

The Home Secretary regretted and said that he would discuss the matter with the Chennai City Police Commissioner and necessary precautions will be taken in the future.

How an Islamic charity in the UK made public the name of a teacher who showed a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad and endangered his life

0

The Islamic organisation ‘Purpose of Life’ has been slammed for sharing the name of the UK teacher, caught in the middle of the West Yorkshire’s Batley Grammar School blasphemy row, in the public domain. The Islamic charity has been rebuked for ‘inflaming tension’ and risking the life of the teacher.

The controversy had erupted in the month of March when the UK teacher had shown satirical cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad to his students during a lesson in class. Imam Mohammed Amin Pandor, the director of the ‘Peace Institute’, and a few others had gathered outside the school to condemn the use of the images as “totally unacceptable” and demanded that the teacher involved be suspended.

Now, according to the British daily The Telegraph, the UK Charity Commission said on Friday, October 1, that it has issued Purpose of Life an official warning under section 75A of the 2011 Charities Act.

The formal notice says the commission “considers that a breach of trust and/or duty and/or misconduct and/or mismanagement has been committed in connection with the charity”.

The regulators slammed the Islamic organisation saying that while naming the teacher in its open letter, Purpose of Life did not consider “foreseeable risk to the person’s safety”. It added that the letter was worded in such a way as to heighten existing tensions in the local community.

In a letter to the Purpose of Life, the Charity Commission recommended that the organisation take a number of steps, including “implementing effective written oversight and/or control mechanisms for the charity’s social media channels”.

The Charity Commission warned to take “further regulator action” if the faults pointed out by the regulators are not addressed.

Toby Young, general secretary of the Free Speech Union had made the complaint against the Islamic charity.

Islamists protested compelling Batley Grammar school authorities to suspend the UK teacher

It may be noted that the teacher in question was suspended from Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire, on 22nd March 2021, for showing students a satirical cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad during a class.

The incident had outraged Islamists who had gathered outside the school demanding the teacher be sacked. Succumbing to the pressure, the principal of the school, Gary Kibble, had suspended the teacher and had apologised “unequivocally”, adding that the member of staff had “given their most sincere apologies”.

More than 60,000 people had signed a petition demanding his reinstatement

According to the reports, thousands of students and parents had expressed solidarity with the UK teacher. An online petition was launched to save the teacher’s job even as furious Muslim parents have called for his sacked and continue to protest outside the school despite being condemned by the government. More than 60,000 people had reportedly signed the petition asking school authorities to reinstate the teacher.

The petition launched by a student at Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire said the teacher had “pure intentions”, adding, “He is not racist and did not support the Islamophobic [sic] cartoons in any manner.”

The Batley Grammar school teacher scared for himself and his family had gone into hiding

Following his suspension, the teacher had gone into hiding because of the protests and the death threats he started receiving.

In the month of May, an external investigation launched by the school’s governing trustees concluded that the teacher had not intended to cause offence, following which the suspension was lifted, but the West Yorkshire teacher had refused to return to the school over fears for his life.

Referring to the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty who was killed for showing the Prophet Muhammad caricature in a class, the Batley teacher’s father had feared that his son would be killed eventually.

Father of teacher had feared son would be killed like French teacher Samuel Paty

“Look what happened to the teacher in France who was killed for doing the same thing. Eventually, they will get my son and he knows this. His whole world has been turned upside down. He’s devastated and crushed”, said his father. “When he starts speaking, he just breaks down and cries. He’s become an emotional wreck. He feels that everything is broken and to be honest, it’s hard to console him at the moment because that is the truth”, the father had said.

The killing of French teacher Samuel Paty

Here, it may be recalled how in October last year, Samuel Paty, a high-school teacher was beheaded by an Islamic terrorist in the French capital Paris for allegedly shown caricatures of the Prophet of Islam to his students. According to reports, a Muslim youth had stabbed the 47-year-old teacher in his throat while shouting “Allahu Akbar”. The attacks had occurred at the suburb of Conflans-Saint-Honorine, northwest of Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron had called the incident an “Islamist terror attack”. He had strongly condemned the barbarism and had also vowed that France would stick to its secular traditions and laws guaranteeing freedom of speech which allow publications such as the virulently anti-religion Charlie Hebdo to produce cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed.

However, the historic speech by Macron and his pronouncements to tackle Islamic terror has infuriated many Islamic countries, with many Islamic countries, especially Turkey and Pakistan took the lead to denounce the French President.

India had, however, stood strongly in support of the French President and condemned the brutal terrorist attack that took the life of the French teacher.

‘Political deceit, Intellectual dishonesty’: PM Modi slams opposition for their hypocritical stance on farm laws

PM Narendra Modi today called out the opposition for their “intellectual dishonesty” and “political deceit” over their criticism of the three agriculture laws passed by his government. Backing the farm bills, PM Modi said tough and monumental decisions are needed to bring benefits to citizens who should have received them decades ago.

Launching a blistering attack against the duplicity of the opposition parties that are demanding withdrawal of the agri laws, Modi said it is one thing if political party makes a promise but is unable to deliver on it but is “particularly undesirable” and “abominable” trait of some political parties who made similar promises but are now recanting on them and spreading malicious information on the promises they had themselves made.

The scathing remarks were made by PM Modi during his interview with the Open Magazine. When asked about his government’s refusal to rollback the three farm laws, Modi said, “The benefits that Indians were entitled to should have reached them decades ago but they have still not reached them.”

The BJP has maintained that many opposition parties, including the Congress, had promised similar reforms that the Modi government had passed but were now supporting the protests to extract political mileage.

Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and some parts of Uttar Pradesh have camped along the borders of the national capital since last November protesting against the enactment of the three laws.

PM Modi further noted that his government was ready to have a discussion with the farmers from the beginning and is still eager to settle the disagreement that protesting farm organisations might have with the new laws.

“Many meetings have also been held in this regard but no one till now has come up with a specific point of disagreement that we want this to be changed,” he said.

Narendra Modi speaks on a range of issues on completion of his two decades in electoral politics

On the occasion of completion of his two decades in electoral politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an interview to journalist PR Ramesh from the Open magazine. PM Modi talked about an array of issues, starting from his reluctance to join electoral politics to governance.

On being asked about his ‘accidental’ entry to the political arena, the Indian Prime Minister remarked, “In a way, you are right…let alone reluctance to join electoral politics, I had nothing to do with the political domain itself. My surroundings, my inner world, my philosophy—these were very different. Right from my younger days, my bent was spiritual. The tenet of ‘Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva’ (Serving people is akin to serving the divine), which was propounded by Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda always inspired me. It became a driving force in whatever I did.”

‘If I can, anyone can’: PM Narendra Modi talks about his humble beginnings and trajectory of life in interview after 20 years of public service

PM Narendra Modi spoke with journalist PR Ramesh of the Open magazine on the occasion of completing two-decades in electoral politics. While discussing an array of issues, the PM also talked about his humble background and how the trajectory he has traversed, from a tea seller to the Prime Minister of India, has never floored him.

On being asked whether he has ever gotten awed by his trajectory on life, PM Modi replied that it is not his own life trajectory that has awed him but the “kind of country we are and our people, who can pick a poor child and make him reach where I have”.

‘I consider myself fortunate that the people of this country have entrusted me with such enormous duties and continue to put their faith in me. This is our democracy’s strength,’ said PM Modi.

When asked how he perceives his journey from hawking tea to seeing his mother labour in other people’s homes, to becoming the most popular Prime Minister, PM Modi said that he sees it very differently from how others perceive it.

‘My individual experiences do not matter, what matters is this shows any Indian can achieve anything’: Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi said that he feels that what he has achieved can be achieved by anyone. “I feel that the 130 crore people of India have the same capabilities that I have. If I can, anyone can! remarked the Indian Prime Minister, adding that India, which has a 130 crore population of highly competent people, can make a significant contribution to humanity.

“And so, where I started, where I reached, what I did, what my individual experiences are, these things do not matter much. What matters is that this shows that any Indian can achieve anything”, said Modi.

PM Modi’s key takeaways from his interview as he completes 20 years in public service

Besides, PM Modi spoke on numerous issues, from India’s ‘satisfying’ performance at the Tokyo Olympics to the existence of a few critics and their pre-conceived notions. While highlighting that it takes courage to accept one’s mistakes, he emphasised, “And it is because of this that one forms notions about a person even without a meeting, knowing or understanding him. And even if they meet you in person and observe something different (as compared to their notion), they will still not accept it just to feed their ego. This is a natural tendency.” PM Modi cited his tenure as Chief Minister as an example to substantiate his point.

While lambasting the Congress party for not differentiating between ‘political’ and ‘economic thought’ and condemning the political nexus between the farmer protestors and the opposition parties, the India Prime Minister remarked that the Indian government is committed to empower small farmers and discuss issues with them in case of disagreement.

PM Modi went on to outline how India fought the Coronavirus pandemic and emphasised on how the government used digital technology to reach the masses and roll out the vaccination drive in different phases.
